How can India and Pakistan 'win without fighting'?
An India-Pakistan discussion with Khurshid Kasuri, Mani Shankar Aiyar and others, and a TCF Pakistan Boston fundraiser later where the keynote speaker was Indian - and full of praise for the Pakistani education NGO... Can our leaders please learn?
The keynote speaker at TCF Boston fundraiser this year was Indian – and it wasn’t ‘bad news’. On the contrary. Check out Shashi Buluswar‘s cricket documentary that I’ve included in the article. Plus a discussion with ‘peacemongers’ hosted by a center in Kolkata the same day. Why can’t our political leaders take a leaf from Mani Shankar Aiyar’s relationship with his old friend Javed Jabbar, a…

REST IN PEACE JAVEED JABBAR BHAI ! With a lot of sadness and disbelief I am writing this note today about a man who made us happy and made us laugh every single moment whenever we interacted. For the last 30+ years of knowing you was an absolute pleasure and blessing. You were the positive energy I saw growing up who had a huge heart and a brilliant mind. You thought me about managing my finances when I was a minor with an master account. You really taught me how to balance work and pleasure as equal with passion. Our (Junior Johnny Lever) Javeed Jabbar bhai who succumbed to cancer has passed on to a higher place to entertain the angels above today morning at Vynambadi, Tamil Nadu his Hometown. Please join me in praying for his soul to rest in peace. Shine on with your humour and jokes forever up there. Love you loads. Will miss you loads. Sorry for not being there in our last days. Yours Dhiru. #rip #javeedjabbar #bhai https://www.instagram.com/p/CBlf7LLgLLV/?igshid=16rfyenogmg2d

The golden leaves of Indus | Art & Culture | thenews.com.pk A group show, titled Golden Leaf of Indus, is on display at Art Chowk Gallery. The show has been curated by Akbar Ali who is an artist, art educator and researcher. Comprising 28 paintings by emerging artists, the exhibition covers several themes in different mediums. The works have been inspired by the artists’ personal experiences, observations, research and comments over social issues. The topics have resonated with the viewers, of whom many might have experienced similar emotions at some stage in their lives. Most of the works appear original and true to their billing. One of the art pieces is a ghungroo (ankle bell) hung using a thin invisible wire. Aqsa Bhutto has decorated it using silver thumb tacks. The flat heads of the pins are on the front and enhance its beauty. The sharp ends are towards the wearer. This could tell of the pain of the dancer wearing these. Another sculpture represents a uterus made in fibre-glass and painted in white. Whereas white signifies peace and harmony in Western art, it is associated with sadness and grief in Asian cultures. The artist is referring to the stigmatisation of women. The sculpture rests on one of the tables and speaks of inequality and worthlessness that a woman feels when she goes through pregnancy, menstruation or hormonal changes that her body experiences. Mudassar has put various wooden and metal objects together to form an image of a pigeon, a pot and a girl in a single frame. Taimoor Ali has painted individuals on tiles and labeled the works Poverty I and Poverty II. Rajab Charan’s Seeing the unseen shows a young lady sitting idle, gazing at a tiny bird. The participating artists include Afsah Ahmed, Alishba Khan, Anshara, Aqsa Bhutto, Areeba Nadeem, Ayesha Shaikh, Wania Shaikh and Tooba Shaikh from the SABS; Beenish, Irfan Channa, Marium Arshad and Beenish Khalid from the NCA, S Sheeza Ali, Ruqaia Abdul Aziz, S Warda Batool from Visual Art Department of the University of Karachi; and S Asghar Shah and Waqar Magsi from Sindh University. Ayesha Sahikh’s oil-on-canvas looks like a love letter in Urdu. The words have been blurred, apparently by time. Alishba Khan has pasted a painted paper on canvas which appears wrinkled. Beenish Javed’s pieces comment on technology and how sanitary products for women are becoming expensive. One of Mariam Arshad’s paintings shows the process of facial cleansing using some beauty products. The other image shows the end product: a satisfied client in a salon who sees herself in the mirror and is happy. She has also painted an old man in a salon and another man in an outdoor setting where a barber is giving him head massage. The image is a comment on how standards of beauty have shifted. Anshara has painted a woodpecker sitting on a tree branch. Its body looks like a saw (a wood cutting tool). Dark hues in the image hint at solitude and despair. Maheen Waqar has captured a moment in which she sees spiritually. Waqar Akram has reflected on the bird fight culture in parts of Sindh and the Punjab. Anshara is also showing a pen-and-ink sketch, a comment on the fetish for whitening one’s skin being promoted by some fairness brands. Irfan Channa’s graphite-on-paper picture looks like black-and-white images of a house roof from where an electricity pole, a tree and the skyline can be noticed. Lukshan Rubaba has produced drawings using a pencil. Old fashioned luxury beauty soaps, colognes and talcum powders cover her paper. Beenish A Sara has chosen watercolors to paint. She has painted scattered bread crumbs and titled it Do Chaar Niwalay. Another piece shows items of daily use like tooth brushes and spoons that are often overlooked. Abdul Sattar’s work resembles Beenish’s. He too has painted roti in various forms. From a distance the image looks like some broken object. Kiran Soomro has painted delusion in subtle oil colours. Roma Rustakhiza has painted a girl in combat posture while standing over a dead snake. Afshan’s monotype is simple yet striking. Kinza Laghari has spread loud hues on her canvas. She has painted Blossom from the famous cartoon series, the Powerpuff Girls. S Sahar Rizvi’s Raku-on-terracotta is a trophy that on closer inspection turns out to be a face. Her other sculptor titled Khawateen shows three women gossiping. S Asghar Ali has painted Pakka Qila in beautiful colours. It looks like a colour print of some image. The curator says he rejects the idea of seeing the artworks as wall displays only. He says he wanted the budding artists to come and learn more from the panel discussion. This group exhibition is an initiative by the gallery and the curator to encourage young artists to pursue their dreams in arts. A discussion session arranged in this regard was attended by art teacher and activist Munawar Ali Syed; Tanweer Farooqui of the Sindh Art Association; SABSU Vice Chancellor Bhai Khan Shar; Saeed Mangi. Abdul Jabbar Gul, Fakhar Ullah Tahir, Dr M Qamar Khan and Shahid Rassam. The panelists spoke about the history of the arts in the Sindh region and how various movements in the arts. The show ended on February 13. The writer is a freelance journalist based in Karachi https://timespakistan.com/the-golden-leaves-of-indus-art-culture-thenews-com-pk/10715/

The petition says TikTok is that an application that provides a platform for talented citizens to exercise the right of demonstrating creativity and expression. By reporter of Down News ISLAMABAD: On Thursday asked The Islamabad High Court (IHC) the (PTA) Pakistan Telecommunications Authority for an explanation for banning the video-sharing app TikTok. The court-appointed president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFU J), Shehzada Zulfiqar, the vice president of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC), Abid Saqi, the journalist Mazhar Abbas and the former minister of information Javed Jabbar as amici curiae ( friends of the court) for assisting him in the matter, particularly with regard to the issue of the alleged abuse of power by the PTA conferred by the 2016 Act which consequently violates the fundamental rights guaranteed in articles 19 and 19 -A of the Constitution. Petitioner Usama Khawar, Ishfaq Jatt through his lawyer, adopted in court that he is a well-known athlete who won the 2016 “World Kickboxing Championship” in while representing Pakistan. According to the council, the petitioner is aggrieved by actions taken by the PTA that have led to a ban on the Internet-based application TikTok. The petition says TikTok is that an application that provides a platform for talented citizens to exercise the right of demonstrating creativity and expression. The counsel contended that the PTA actions were in violation of Section 37 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act, 2016. It has been argued that despite the IHC directives vide order, dated Sept 12, 2019, in the Awami Worker Party (AWP) versus PTA case, the authority and the federal government had failed to fulfill their respective statutory obligations under subsection (2) of Section 37 of the Act of 2016 and thus the powers conferred under sub-section (1) ibid were being abused. The court had issued a directive for framing and notifying the rules in three months. Chief Justice Minara also ordered, “In order to remove mandatory due process requirements, PTA has absolutely no right to approve orders or take actions under Article 37 of [Pekka].” Due to security reasons, the TikTok app has been banned by India. It is proprietary By a Chinese company. The lawyer insisted that another judgment dated July 24, 2020.
Regarding the shelving of the ban on “Battlefield of the Unknown Player” (PUBG) (online multiplayer online royal game), it has also been violated by the PTA. The Council emphasized that Article 19 and Article 19-A of the Constitution guarantee freedom of speech and the basic right to information. He said that the petitioner did not object to the supervision of the application, but was aggrieved because PTA violated the provisions of the 2016 Electronic Crime Prevention Law. He said that the TikT0k app provides the following sources: Many talented citizens, especially marginalized citizens, have provided income, and there is no reason for a few people to abuse the platform to impose a ban. After hearing the arguments, Chief Justice Minallah instructed PTA to nominate a senior official to seek court assistance and seek an explanation: “Why may not be prosecuted for violating the above-mentioned court’s instructions and why the TikTok application is prohibited? May not be suspended”. The further trial of the case was adjourned to October 23.

How can India and Pakistan 'win without fighting'?
Why can't Pakistan-India ties be modelled on Aiyar's relationship with his old friend Javed Jabbar, a self-proclaimed "chauvinist and narrow-minded Pakistani" -- they disagree on almost everything "yet we are the closest of friends" as Aiyar said.
When an Indian is in the room, and it isn’t ‘bad news’ – and why can’t the relationship between India and Pakistan be modelled on the relationship between Mani Shankar Aiyar and Javed Jabbar? do you have any pakistani drama recs?
yes, omg, ofc!
meri zaat zara e benishan: this aired in 2010, so it does fit the standard evil mother-in-law trope, but the relationship development that was incorporated via the flashbacks throughout the story was wonderful, and the bridging of the two generations of this torn family tugged at my soul. it’s a very poetic drama with some religious undertones as well about honesty and faith, and it’s definitely one of my old time favorites.
daam: this was such a good modern drama ! we have friends from two different backgrounds try to sort of carry on their relationship with each other while dealing with the circumstances of each other’s lives. it’s very much a realistic drama about how we can’t always compromise our differences, and what happens in lieu of our inability to do so. also, mehreen jabbar directed it, and if you know her from the days of doraha, her work and cinematography are absolutely masterful.
qaid e tanhai: this is similar to meri zaat in a few ways, but i think it has some more progressive nuances to it. the ost is beautiful and really conveys the heartache that each of the characters carries as a result of their situation, and it’s a very refreshing drama in that it doesn’t seek to portray a good or bad side but to constantly develop its characters until the very end. faisal qureshi is a superb actor as always, and saba hameed and samera javed are no less in really delivering the pain of separation between people, whether it be between a mother and her son or a husband and his wife.
zindagi gulzar hai: this is definitely one of my all time favorites not just because of the banter, but because of the amazing introspection. ofc most pakistani dramas focus on working out marriages, but zgh is really compelling in that it gives the characters multiple monologues where they talk about how different they are from their spouse and how they ought to compromise that. zaroon and kashaf are both hardly similar, and some things they disagree on consistently. but they try very hard to understand each other’s reasoning and live with it, and i love that.
humsafar: i know that this is probably on every list out there but i want to mention it anyway bc while it does have its flaws and can be overhyped, there are things i really do enjoy about this drama. there’s so much subtle symbolism laced throughout the show, not to mention the romantic development is really killer?? like i could go on and on about how unnecessarily dramatic sara’s character and the plot twist were, but if i could have just boiled down the drama to ashar and khirat (and eventually, hareem), it would have been so perfect, and really, if you ever watch the show, it should be bc of them, not necessarily the plot.
mirat ul uroos: no one has heard of this drama, probably bc it was on geo so the filming quality was near shit, but it’s really good! it deals a lot with the trials and tribulations of marriage and how that intersects with family, like who is more important, your spouse or your parents and siblings? and i love how the concepts being discussed are so basic yet interwoven in a way that really makes you think about what you would do if you were in the same situation.
doraha: ok, so i personally have not seen doraha (i was like eight or something when it aired), but it was mehreen jabbar’s first big drama, and my parents are huge fans of it, so i definitely recommend it !!

Saint Patrick's College or St. Patrick's College, is located in Karachi, Pakistan. It was established in 1952 by Fr. Stephen Raymond as its first Principal.[1] Until 1964 it was an intermediate college only.

Best Pakistani Dramas
Best Pakistani Dramas,  Pakistani shows have taken huge steps throughout the most recent decade, increasing present expectations for quality composition, advancement and authenticity.
No, we don't mean the daytime cleansers that are brimming with saas/bahu sazishes (mother by marriage/little girl in-law plotting) however the ideal time contributions of our significant channels.
Steadily expanding web access and the spread of web-based media have put any show simply a tick away. A sizable part of the Indian public and the overall subcontinental diaspora currently make up an up to this point unbelievable global crowd.
So it seemed well and good for Indian telecom monster Zee TV to make the most of a particularly business opportunity and devote a station called Zee Zindagi to their transmission. It was these equivalent dramatizations that presented India as well as anybody on the globe (who sees even a little Urdu) to our most celebrated fares Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan.
Lamentably, political manner of speaking appears to have diminished the light of cross line companionship and altruism to the sort of glimmering diya Paro hefted around for Devdas, so perhaps it's an ideal opportunity to remind everybody why the diya was lit in any case.
Presently, this rundown was difficult to incorporate. Simply being famous or "hit of the period" won't get your number one dramatization on it. Initially, a dramatization must be amazingly elegantly composed: any dreary exchanges, conflicting characterisations, or lethargic dependence on generalizations or adages would be a quick exclusion.
The ones that caused it to the Top 10 to share these things practically speaking: rehash esteem, notorious characters, a reasonable story beginning to end and a solid chief.
Nonetheless, the absolute most significant shared factor was that they were all unshakable diversion, the sort of show crowds were frantically standing by the entire week for.
1) Dastaan
Chief: Haissam Hussain Writer : Samira Fazal
Cast: Fawad Khan, Sanam Baloch, Ahsan Khan, Saba Qamar, Mehreen Raheel
It is difficult being number 1. Being acceptable isn't adequate, you must be outstanding. Dastaan isn't only any sequential, or simply any sentiment between two people. It is an epic romantic tale between a country and its kin.
Set during the wild season of Partition and Independence, Dastaan recounted the narrative of Hassan and Bano, destroyed by occasions a long ways outside their ability to control. The sheer intricacy and size of such a task would plague anybody however was capably taken care of by chief Haissam Hussain with the sort of powerful virtuoso that he is notable for.
Marshaling different areas, a tremendous star cast and every one of the political sensitivities and chronicled subtleties while as yet keeping a basic equilibrium makes this dramatization stand far superior to the group.
Fawad Khan, Sanam Baloch, Ahsan Khan, Saba Qamar and Mehreen Raheel gave standout exhibitions to coordinate with Samira Fazal's brilliant content.
2) Humsafar
Chief: Sarmad Khoosat Writer: Farhat Ishtiaq
Cast: Fawad Khan, Mahira Khan, Naveen Waqar, Atiqa Odho, Hina Bayat, Noor Hassan
A few things are so straightforward as can be that they dominate all the other things.
Humsafar enchanted a country, dispatching Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan to super-fame. Chief Sarmad Khoosat and Farhat Ishtiaq gave us in excess of a romantic tale; here was a guide of the human heart, a cozy comprehension of the most profound sentiments two individuals can have for one another. Sentiment, envy, despair and eventually the victory of pardoning made this probably the best chronic at any point made.
3) Daam
Chief: Mehreen Jabbar Writer: Umera Ahmed
Cast: Adeel Husain, Sanam Baloch, Aamina Sheik, Sanam Saeed
This uncommon diamond of a sequential resembles a long cool glass of water on a sweltering summer's day.
Chief Mehreen Jabbar's rich moderate style consummately caught this intensely noticed story of kinship and misfortune. This is one of essayist Umera Ahmed's generally experienced and complete screenplays; insightful and nuanced in its comprehension of the human condition. Best Pakistani Dramas.
4) Durr-e-Shehwar
Chief: Haissam Hussain Writer: Umera Ahmed
Cast: Mikaal Zulfikar, Sanam Baloch, Samina Peerzada, Nadia Jamil, Nauman Ejaz, Umer Naru
This show is a typical case of the force of a decent chief.
What could without much of a stretch have wound up as an elegantly composed potboiler turned into a paper on marriage and the changing requests of present day connections.
Utilizing a sharp equilibrium of past, present and close past, chief Haissam Hussain kept the energy going in what may have been simply one more mazloom aurat (vulnerable lady) story.
This strategy required a great deal of gifted altering and on the off chance that anybody needs to collaborate on how it's done, simply watch the American sequential The Story Of Us, which reflects this troublesome style.
Noteworthy exhibitions from Sanam Baloch, Mikaal Zulfikaar, Nadia Jamil and Samina Peerzada caused this sequential to appear to be a mysterious entryway into the past of each lady.
5) Shehr-e-Zaat
Chief: Sarmad Khoosat Writer: Umera Ahmed
Cast: Mahira Khan, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Mohib Mirza, Samina Peerzada
Mahira Khan and Mikaal Zulfiqar sparkled in this story of otherworldly arousing.
This story took on some intense subjects like our simple acknowledgment of realism, our absence of compassion for people around us and the key to genuine happiness in what must be depicted as tale for current occasions.
Significantly more than Humsafar, this sequential exhibited chief Sarmad Khoosat's interestingly imaginative and symbolic executive style.
6) Meri Zaat Zara-e-Benishan
Chief: Babar Javed Writer: Umera Ahmed
Cast: Faysal Qureshi, Samiya Mumtaz, Adnan Siddiqui, Imran Abbas, Samina Peerzada
This was one of the achievements of Pakistani TV, including splendid exhibitions from Samiya Mumtaz and Faysal Qureshi.
