“GARDEN OF EDEN”

The long time meat-packing, warehouse, and industrial Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop has seen major changes in the last several decades and is now a bustling tech neighborhood full of new businesses and restaurants. In June, 2017 local artist Jas Petersen joined visiting Solomon Souza, furthering the transformation on this warehouse at N Peoria at W Kinzie Streets. Since first making a name for himself painting more than 150 portraits on the shutters of Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda Market, fast-working Souza has taken his colorful work on the road. Inspired by the strong women she grew up around, Jas Petersen has been painting her Fastgirl character for more than a decade, using her “to cultivate a dialogue around identity, empowerment, and the female form,” as with this Eve in the duo’s “Garden of Eden.”  @solomonsouza/  @jas_petersen/

Day 6

This week I’m going share some of my favorite lesser known artists and their work.

One of the reasons I love art is because of how it works as a connector. The artist of choice for today is Chicago bred visual artist Jas Petersen.  

Her work puts the female form at the forefront in defining “both the heroes and villains of current day while asking the audience to consistently to question what they consider beautiful.”

Jas has murals all over the country, giving me even more reason to travel (as if I needed it). But in the mean time she has a mural at Kenmare and Mott you all should check out if you’re in the neighborhood.
