An IdeaTM came to me

it’s a bad one but I have to put it somewhere

so I’m into symbolism, right. It’s super intense. It’s everywhere and I can’t stop. So I’m making more. I need flowers, flavors, rocks. I need actions, scents, shapes. Yes this is for my primary five plus Ranger and the Courier sometimes.

but it was the shapes that caught my eye this time.

I was thinking about how some of the other characters actually represent, in a way, alternate versions of… of other characters… how some characters actually symbolize Each Other. This brought me to the basic shape idea, what each character would be represented by at the simplest level.

Orwren would have the Pentagon. At first, I wanted him to have the spade, representing a sharp and soft side, but I didn’t want curves here. The pentagon was the perfect shape. He is the home and represents what’s good and what there is to love.

Lyan would have the Diamond (rhombus). To me, this is self explanatory, but the explicit reasoning is hard to explain in word form. Lyan has spent her life on the edge of a double edged sword, following signs and clues that seemingly lead nowhere, and trying to do the right thing. The diamond is both a compass arrow and a blade.

Kad would have the Triangle. Sharp and to the point, notoriously representing fire, alert, and danger. Kad is foreign territory in his own land, representing right and wrong and the thin line between.

Cyra and Jasper are more difficult, given that their characters are not as well defined and fairly impulsive. Thus, they’re the two characters with curvature in their shapes.

Cyra would have the Circle. Mysterious and mathematically annoying, the circle is a perfect shade for Cyra’s notoriously troubled personality. She seems perfect. She’s far from it.

Jasper would have a four-leaf clover shape. I wanted to give him a leaf, but there are too many kinds of leaves. Four leaf clovers always look the same. Represents luck and good fortune. Hopefully, that’s what he gets.

Happy STS! If you could swap places with any one character, who would you choose? Why? And what would they think about the swap?

I have barely managed to squeak this in under the sts window (sundays count to me!) - thanks for the question Jasper!

This was actually kinda hard because to be quite honest, I am a bit rough on my characters and I myself am kind of a delicate weenie. I got a bruise just from getting my blood drawn and it's still there after three days! Meanwhile all my characters are regularly getting beat to shit or experiencing actual war....

That being said, I'd probably pick Sage Kendrick from Shapeshifter, who is a character I don't think I've really brought up on this blog. Sage is a witch from a small, magical town in Wyoming but currently living in Moressau.

Sage wouldn't be happy about swapping places, but she wouldn't be pissed either. She'd be annoyed at not having magic and living in a 'boring' world. She and Cryptid would get along decently, I think, so I wouldn't have to worry about my husband's well-being there lmao. And she'd probably be content to be back in some version of Wyoming.

Meanwhile, I would be having the time of my life getting to be a witch with actual magical powers. I'd immediately be moving out of Moressau, though. My anxiety cannot handle big cities, especially ones run by criminal syndicates :P Catch me in that tiny Wyoming town communing with faeries.

Lyan: Has no concept of time, but knows immediately when the seasons change. Made peace with Spring after hating it for years.

Kad: Has allergies but only on Origin, Calif, and Mars. This is one of the reasons he primary lives on Temothy. Dislikes Spring traveling.

Jasper: Can and will bring up the “Ishtar Eggs”

Orwren: Only likes Spring for “the lofi vibes”

Cyra: Also has bad allergies, but on every planet. Takes a thousand drugs to get rid of them

Ranger: Sees spring as the perfect opportunity to start devouring honeysuckles

The Social Experiment (for characters)

I have been compiling a huge list of responses and reactions for my characters bc, let's be honest, I have no idea what they are thinking. So, here's a small sample:

Lyan: Will peel the skin off of meat sticks. Does not peel cucumbers. 

Kad: Straight up has an eating disorder and prefers not to eat at all. 

Jasper: Will absolutely eat anything if it tastes good. Anything. 

Orwren: DOES peel cucumbers. Likes drinking yogurt. 

Cyra: No eating disorder, but also doesn’t eat (not a lot anyway); prefers to eat ice cubes or whipped cream. 

Ranger: Sandwiches have an upside down to him.

Jazmine Lucinda (age 44): The single mother who moved to New York after her husband's passing from Oregon. She has five kids, so she desperately needed her family's help. She's a successful doctor who's worked on many people with terminal illnesses and disabilities. When she learns that Donnie is a survivor of cancer, she immediately starts keeping a close eye on him just in case if anything happened under her watch. Jazmine met Splinter while she was out. She had gotten stood up and he saw that she was upset, so he went to comfort her. A little bit later, the two started dating and eventually get engaged. Jazmine is the only Fasler that Splinter and Donnie trust with their mutant secret. It took her a bit to accept that she was dating a rat, but she came to terms. He was still her Splinter, the man she had fallen in love with.

Jessica Emmy (age 17): The oldest Fasler child. She's in the same grade as April and is good friends with her and Sunita. She wants to become an actress when she graduates, so she does theater. After she meets Splinter, he gives her private one-on-one lessons to help hone in her skills. When she met Donnie, she quickly became overprotective. Jessica sees herself as his older sister, even before her mother started dating his father.

Jarid Kendrick (age 14): He absolutely hated Donnie at first, feeling jealous that Donnie was smarter than he was (even though both of them skipped two grades). He only hung around Donnie because Lucy's his cousin and Marcus was his only other friend and they adopted Donnie into their small group. He quickly became friends with Robbie when he joined the group. Jarid is the geography smart kid in the group. If you were to ask him about any kind of rock, he would go on and on for hours. Even after he started warming up to Donnie, he and Donnie kept up their friendly rivalry because it was fun. Their relationship got very tense after Donnie officially moved in. Once again, Jarid was jealous of Donnie, but this time, it was cause he got his own room while Jarid has to share one.

Jasper Moon (age 12): The non-binary middle child. They use they/she pronouns. She really, really wants to become an author. Her stories aren't very good yet, but she is only twelve, so they have a reason. (If you're wondering why she's twelve and uses they/she pronouns it's cause I know several nb people who figured it out when they were that young too. Also, Donnie uses he/they pronouns and showed her that that's something people can do.) She absolutely adores her step-father and step-brother. She loves to ask question after question about tech or watch Lou Jitsu movies with Splinter.

Jax Marshall (age 7): The very energetic child who picks up on some of Donnie and April's chaotic energy. He loves to draw all over the walls or tear apart his toys. Jax idolizes Lou Jitsu and thinks it's so cool that he gets to live with him. He brags to all of his friends that his papa is the Lou Jitsu.

Jimmy Jr "JJ" Randall (age 3): Jazmine was pregnant with him when his father died, so he was named after him. He's a very bubbly kid. His favorite people is Donnie and Jarid. He finds the way they playfully argue (sometimes actually argue) to be hilarious and it cracks him up. Much like Donnie, JJ is autistic and is non-verbal. He has the cutest laugh that makes anyone laugh when they hear it.

When Jazmine marries Splinter, the family decide to keep Fasler as their last name. Jazmine didn't change her last name when she married Jimmy Sr (who instead took her last name), so she wasn't changing it now. Her kids (other than Jax and JJ) kept it in memory of their father. Splinter is not offended, but he decides to keep Hamato as his last name so Donnie could keep it (he knows Donnie wouldn't change it and he didn't want Donnie to feel alone in it).
