Would you care to dance, my dear?
Pairing: Jaskier x female reader
Summary: Jaskier has been invited to perform at a ball and has convinced the reader to attend with him, but she is uncomfortable - that is, until she sneaks into the garden for some air and Jaskier notices and joins her.
Words: 2.6K
Warnings: lots of fluff, reader implied to be female, close friends to lovers, lots of hugs and singing from the bard, mutual pining, reader has a lot of thoughts at the start but I promise there is heaps of soft bard fluff after!
A/n: So I was thinking about the lack of Jaskier fics with a demisexual reader, and came up with this. It certainly doesn't have to be read that way, but it was in the back of my mind when I was writing. The song lyrics are from Fair by The Amazing Devil, it's a beautiful song you should all go listen to. As always it's unedited, so apologies for errors. Hope you enjoy!
You hunched slightly in your seat as your surroundings continued to encroach on you. Loud chatter and laughter, the clinking of glasses, expensive shoes tapping against tiles, figures brushing past you on their way to the ballroom floor.
No one had asked you to dance yet, thank the gods. You were sure it had something to do with your miserable expression and the men's pants and doublet you wore, in stark contrast to the elaborate gowns and hairstyles of the other women in the room.
The night was only made more tolerable, of course, by your companion, Jaskier. An excellent bard, and your best friend, he'd asked you to accompany him to the party at which he'd been invited to perform. You were reluctant at first, preferring the quiet comfort of a tavern or a night under the stars, but he'd seemed so disappointed by your initial refusal, staring at you with those sad blue eyes until you finally caved. The clothing was another issue, as you owned nothing formal, hated dresses in fact, but he gladly lent you one of his simpler outfits, insisting you'd look wonderful in anything. You'd scoffed at his words, but were appreciative of his consideration for your comfort.
He danced about the room, strumming a playful tune on his lute, grinning from ear to ear as he winked at various party goers. You rolled your eyes, unable to help a smirk as you watched. Ever the performer, it wasn't only his music, but his whole manner that served to entertain the guests. He always looked beautiful in this setting, radiating happiness, thoroughly in his element. His blue doublet was open, the low cut shirt beneath revealing a smattering of hair on his chest, which heaved as he sung. His boyish fringe was swept across his face, which seemed almost sculpted, the golden glow of the many candles in the room accentuating his delicate features. Then there were his eyes. You loved his eyes, a mesmerising blue, always seeming to convey such an unbelievable level of meaning and emotion, drawing you in the longer you looked.
Noticing you staring his way, he gladly returned the smile you didn't realise you'd given him, his eyes seeming to light up even more upon meeting yours. You gave him an encouraging nod, and he grinned, launching into another song. At least he wouldn't feel guilty for dragging you along if you pretended to be enjoying yourself.
As the night dragged on, you found it harder to maintain your false appearance of positivity. You fiddled with the undoubtedly expensive food on your plate, unsure exactly of what it was and unwilling to find out. You had rejected a couple of young men who'd offered you dances, finding yourself as completely uninterested as usual, instead mumbling apologies and excuses about a sore leg. As the guests became louder, drunker, rowdier, you finally stood abruptly, in dire need of fresh air. You threw a final glance in the direction of the bard, who was currently preoccupied with entertaining a gaggle of young women with what was most likely some dramatic tale of dreamy lovers. He shouldn't notice if you stepped outside for a few minutes. Taking a deep breath, you wove your way towards the large double doors leading to the gardens beyond.
***
Taking deep breaths of fresh air, you wandered between rows of brightly coloured flowers, running your fingers through the petals as their sweet scents brushed across your nose. You manoeuvred between carefully trimmed hedges until you reached a low marbled bench, placed before an intricately carved fountain with mythical figures intertwined beneath the rippling water. Sitting down with a sigh, you ran your fingers through your messy hair, a nervous habit you'd never quite managed to shake. You didn't know why you were so averse to these kinds of gatherings. The people? The clothes? The food? Maybe it was just the atmosphere, the fake smiles, the superficial laughter, the whispered barbs whenever someone turned their back.
Or maybe you were just paranoid. Maybe all these people really were enjoying themselves. Maybe you should be too - you were, after all, invited as a guest, arriving with your dearest friend, a man for who many here would give a great deal in order to take your place at his side. Many of the women he'd thrown nonchalant winks and smiles at tonight would be jealous of a relationship which doesn't actually exist, like many others who'd assumed the pair of you to be lovers simply by observing your innate closeness. You'd never understand the way all those women could so quickly fall for him, for anyone, really. He'd often encouraged it, of course - less so now, you'd noticed, but certainly when you'd first met. He seemed to fall in love with everyone, and they always seemed immediately infatuated with him in return. While his reputation wasn't as extensive as he'd have people believe, he had a reputation nonetheless. Still, it was something you hadn't even considered when you'd first met, and Jaskier seemed just as glad of your friendship as he would have been had you sought something more.
Of course, you'd be lying if you said you hadn't grown to find him quite attractive, beautiful in spirit and appearance, with a kind, empathetic soul. You found your thoughts drifting, lulled into a daze by the soft trickle of water from the fountain and the distant chirping of night insects. You really loved him, that much you knew. He was your constant companion, your closest friend, your bard. But recently you couldn't help but find yourself wondering if he could be... not something more, that implied your friendship was of far less significance than it was, but... something different. Why now? You'd been friends for years. Why couldn't you have had these feelings and acted on them from the start? Or why couldn't they have just stayed away completely? You groaned, frustrated with your own thoughts, placing your head in your hands.
"Are you alright?"
You turned at the voice, which was deep, melodic, instantly recognisable, and laced with concern.
Jaskier stood uncertainly behind you, absentmindedly fiddling with the strap of his lute, pouting thoughtfully as he awaited your response.
"Oh I'm... I'm fine, Jask. Sorry, I didn't mean to distract you from your performance-"
"You've nothing to be sorry about, my dear," he insisted, moving to take a seat at your side, resting his lute carefully on the bench beside him. You sat in silence for a moment, the soft sounds of the night filling the air, before he spoke again.
"If anyone should be sorry, it's me. I know you hate these sorts of things, I..." He looked down, tugging at the frilly cuffs of his shirt. "It was selfish of me to drag you along."
"Don't be ridiculous, Jask. I agreed to come, didn't I? I liked the idea of spending the night with you," you felt your face redden at the poor choice of words, but chose to stumble forwards over your mistake, "I- it's a nice evening, and..." you reached down beside you, grasping one of his hands in your own. "... And I really am glad to be here with you."
He met your eyes as the corner of his mouth quirked up in a cheeky smile that slowly spread across his entire face. It was infectious, and you quickly found yourself beaming back.
"I'm happy to hear it, dear heart," he said, before shuffling closer, leaning in to rest his head on your shoulder. His fluffy hair, which shone a golden brown in the moonlight, brushed against your neck and chin, making you laugh as he squirmed about, trying to find a comfortable position.
"Are you going to wriggle around like that all night?" You teased. "Don't you have a performance you need to get back to?"
"Everything I need is right here," he murmured against your neck, voice far more gravelly than you'd expected, his hot breath sending goosebumps across your skin. That was... That was new. You hesitated a second, before leaning back against him, the warmth of his partially exposed chest pressing into your shoulder as you rested your head against his.
"Can we just... Stay like this a while?" He breathed, eyes fluttering shut.
"Of course," you murmured back, closing your own eyes.
You enjoyed each other's silent company and the warmth of your bodies pressed together as the moon crept higher in the sky. Absentmindedly, you fiddled with his fingers, lacing them between your own. Reaching up with your other hand, you ran your fingers through his hair, drawing what sounded almost like a low moan from the bard, which was quickly interrupted by a cough as he stood abruptly.
"What's wrong?" You asked, staring up at him, causing your breath to hitch in your throat. Gods, you didn't know how he could have looked any more beautiful than before, but he did. The night cast shadows across his pale skin, accentuating his delicately sculpted features with a soft blue glow. His eyes seemed to burn with energy as they stared back into your own, and you noticed a deep red glowing through parts of his ruffled hair in the light of the moon. His doublet was crumpled from where he'd leant against you, and the low cut shirt beneath was pulled far to one side, revealing a teasingly large amount of his chest. You forced yourself to tear your eyes away as he responded.
"Oh, it's... It's nothing. I... Do you... That is..." He stopped for a second, composing himself, before his face lit up, seeming to have thought of something. An embarrassed smile broke through his features as he walked up to you, placing one hand behind his back and outstretching the other towards you.
"Would you care to dance, my dear?"
Heart pounding in your chest, you smiled, before reaching up to take his hand.
"I- I would love to, my sweet bard."
He let out a nervous laugh of relief at your response, stepping back as you rose from your seat, eyes locked on each other. His fingers, calloused from years of music, tenderly grasped your own, before his hands slid down your sides to find purchase at your waist, while you placed your arms either side of his head. You held your breath, the contact making you shiver, your heart fluttering in your chest.
What is wrong with me? It's not like this is the first time we've been this close. We've shared a horse, a bed, even danced together a couple of times at village fairs. Why should this be any different?
Too preoccupied with his own thoughts to notice your lack of composure, Jaskier confidently led you around the small patch of ground hidden between hedges, your own natural dance floor, with the sighing wind, bubbling water and singing crickets providing the music. He absentmindedly bit his lip as his mind swirled, heart thumping just as fast as yours.
Why am I doing this? Of course we're close, we always have been, but this is different and I know it. I'm an idiot, a hopeful idiot. She's never been interested in me, and, as much as it wounds me, I promised myself to never let my feelings get in the way of our friendship. Promised to never tell her just how deeply in love with her I am.
Jaskier pushed his troubled thoughts aside. He wanted to enjoy this moment, and wanted you to as well. Besides, maybe he could find out, once and for all, how you truly felt about him. Or at least, ease his aching heart by finally revealing his own feelings, regardless of your response.
Taking a deep breath, steadying his trembling body, he slowly leant towards you, until his lips barely brushed your ear. A pleasant warmth shot through your stomach at his unexpected touch, and you closed your eyes with a hum of contentment, welcoming his body as your arms pulled him closer.
Softly, he began to sing as the pair of you continued to sway in the moonlight, words raw and full of pure, unbridled emotion as he murmured them into your ear.
"It's what my heart just yearns to say, in ways that can't be said..."
You tightened your grip, clinging to him in silent awe as he continued the song, each new lyric causing heat to rise to your skin in the cool night air.
"Oh, how, oh, how unreasonably in love I am with everything you do, I'll spend my days so close to you, 'cause if I'm standing here, maybe everyone will think I'm alright."
You'd stopped moving now, not daring to pull away, confused by the tide of emotions flooding your mind. What was this song? You'd never heard it before, but it seemed to come straight from the heart. Was it possible...
"It's not fair, it's not fair how much I love you"
At these words, something clicked. You kicked yourself for not realising sooner. How could you be so blind? Forget your own emotions, you knew you hadn't always been in love with Jaskier. But him? He'd been infatuated with you from the start. Yet he'd kept quiet about his feelings, until he knew they were reciprocated. Your poor, kind, beautiful bard.
You closed what little distance was left between you two, burying your head into his chest. His voice trailed off as he gently slid his hands further around your waist, returning the embrace. He gave a deep sigh, hugging you as though he never wanted to let you go, nestling his head against your neck.
Eventually, you felt his lips brush your jaw as you pulled back just enough to meet his gaze, shining eyes filled with adoration, an expression of deep satisfaction resting on his face.
"That was... That was..." He breathed, fingers gently trailing across your back.
"It was beautiful," you finished, fingers twirling the fluffy brown curls at the back of his neck.
"I'm glad you liked it," he said softly, a half smile pulling at the corner of his mouth, as his eyes flitted across your features, eventually dropping to your lips.
"This feels too good to be true..." He mumbled, closing his eyes as he gently brought his lips forward to brush yours.
"Yet here we are," you whispered against his mouth, before finally pressing your lips into his own with a sigh.
He kissed you carefully, deliberately, the heat of your bodies pressed so close together serving only to fuel the motion. You slid your hands up the back of his shirt and he moaned into your mouth, sending another wave of warmth through your body. You allowed him to deepen the kiss, his tongue lapping and darting into your mouth as he made a series of small, pleasured noises, whimpering and gasping as you continued playing with his hair.
When you finally seperated, you were both breathing heavily, hearts pounding. Jaskier's appearance made you weak, as you examined his lust darkened eyes, the soft blush creeping across his cheeks, and his puffy, crimson lips. He looked so ruffled, like a startled baby animal, that you couldn't help but giggle. You moved to rest your forehead against him, his eyelashes briefly kissing your cheek as he moved to wrap his arms around your waist.
"I love you, Jaskier," you said, running your thumb across his cheek, causing him to hum softly at the touch. You hesitated, grinning, before adding, "thanks for waiting for me."
"Of course, dear heart," he said, cheeky smile once again tugging at the corner of his mouth, before adding more seriously, "You're more important to me than you could ever know."
"I think I have some idea," you smirked, grabbing him by his shirt collar and pulling his lips into your smile.

"Don't Touch My Lute."
Jaskier x Female Reader Fluff Oneshot
Summary: Y/n has only been traveling with Geralt and Jaskier for a short while, but she and Jaskier have known one another months before that. Being a bard herself, Y/n knows of Jaskier and just how utterly brilliant he is. She has even seen him perform a few times in Novigrad at the Chameleon - though he had never seen her perform, only rumours. This knowledge causes her to feel anxious and refuse continuously when he asks her to play for them every few nights to truly hear her talent. What happens when one night, Jaskier leaves to wash up in the river, and Y/n decides to pick up his lute and sing but he returns before she finishes playing and hears her?
Notes:
A/N: I never write, I’ve written 2 fics total and I’m not amazing so.. Help is cool but don’t bash me plz, this ain’t my job and I only do it for plain old fun, cool? Hope you enjoy!! Ps I’m in love with both Jaskier and Geralt I need helppppp
“Would you both fancy making our way to an inn once we’ve washed up?”
Jaskier asked Geralt and Y/n as they walked along the dirt path in the direction of the nearest river. Geralt’s brows furrowed slightly as he directed Roach’s reins in the right direction, thinking. Y/n’s walk turned into a skip, a smile now plastered across her lips, “Uhh, yes, please! We’ve not eaten a proper supper in 3 days! I’ll even provide the coin!” Jaskier gasped, pressing his palm against his intricately detailed doublet, “No, no, my Lady Y/n - I shall pay!” He bowed. Geralt rolled his eyes, exhaling through his nose, “Always the hero.” He murmured to himself as he watched the bard catch up to the skipping woman.
They found a clearing where they began to set down all of their belongings. Jaskier and Geralt each sat on their own bedrolls whilst Y/n placed herself on the floor, leaning against a rock. After a while of watching the bard write poems in his notebook, she tilted her head and softly inquired, “Might I play your lute, Jaskier? I’ve not touched one in almost two months, I left mine in Novigrad..” Her eyes glistened in the evening glow and she crossed her legs. Jaskier hummed for a long time, looking into her blue eyes, before settling on, “Yes, as long as you sing to us.” His pink lips dipped into a smirk and he shot a quick look towards Geralt to gauge his reaction. Despite not looking up, his eyes and eyebrows gave away that he was interested. Y/N’s nose wrinkled up, “No, thank you.” Geralt’s left eyebrow rose and he looked up from writing an entry about Forktails into his bestiary, “You sing?” Y/n took a deep breath and shifted from side to side. Jaskier rose from his bedroll, slapped his thighs, bent forward slightly and raised his eyebrows at Y/n, “Yes, she does - However, I have not yet heard her despite being told brilliant things of the Angelic Y/n of Novigrad!”
“You’ve seen me perform before!” Y/n huffed, folding her arms and leaning back against the rock. Jaskier’s face contorted in amusement and his voice came out somewhat petty, “Through a window. I couldn’t hear you.” Y/n grumbled, “Bet you could.” Jaskier picked up his lute and held it out right in front of Y/n’s face, the shiny wood almost tapping the tip of her nose, “Come on, just once!” “No!” Y/n spat, “Why?”, Jaskier put the lute back, the vibration of its strings due to impact causing an ugly chord.
“Can you not just go and wash up now, Jaskier?! I’ve no need to give you a reason!” Y/n raised her voice slightly, her heart slowly making its way into her throat. Jaskier pursed his lips, thinking of how to respond, lifted his finger into the air, gritted his teeth, dropped his arm, and turned back to his belongings with an exasperated sigh.
Y/n pulled an apple from her knapsack, taking a big bite. Jaskier began unpacking his linen towel along with a wooden hairbrush and some other things, “Right, I’m having a wash in the river, no touching my lute, Y/n. Not unless you want to initiate an impromptu performance?” His icy blue eyes narrowed and he flashed a toothy smile, targeting Y/N’s and her chewing slowed. She sighed and spoke with a full mouth, spitting slightly at Jaskier, “No, bard.” Jaskier’s eyes widened in disgust, “That makes one of us. Someone’s touchy tonight..” He spoke in a hushed tone as he walked off towards the river. Geralt smirked but kept quiet, enjoying the dynamic between the two.
Geralt sat silently with his right leg bent at the knee and his arm resting on it, sketching. Y/n shook her head, groaned, got up and made her way over to Geralt, sitting down next to him to watch him fill his bestiary in peace as they did most nights, “What is that thing? Ff-fog-let? Wh- what’s one of those?” She leaned over his left side to get a better look at his sketch, brushing shoulders. Usually, Geralt would slowly lean away, but he liked Y/n. Maybe even had a soft spot for her. They’d gotten as close as a lady bard and witcher could have after only knowing one another for eight months - and Jaskier wasn’t much of a fan of that at the moment. “Why don’t you want to sing if you’re known for performing so well?” He frowned, tilting his head to look her in the eye,
“Because Geralt, have you heard Jaskier sing? I don’t want to sing to him. He’s too good, I’m just okay.” She spoke with a slight angry heat, perhaps towards herself, blinking a few times, and diverting her eyes away from Geralt’s piercing ones by looking elsewhere on his face, taking in his strong features, especially when he is pulling a face such as that, “Yet you always jest about your brilliant skill?”
“Yes but.. That’s just for fun, I’d die if Jaskier heard me. He’d..” She paused, debating whether to continue, flickering her gaze up to Geralt’s, “He’d?” Geralt asked, raising his brows, “He’d.. He’d hate it, he’d go off me. I’d rather let him hear the reviews and not dare let him hear it himself. He’s legendary, I can’t compare myself to him! He’d laugh and I’d be broken. Or he’d lie and say I was good to please me. Especially now.” Geralt hummed, leaning back a bit. Something had begun that nobody could stop. Y/N had fallen for Jaskier. Geralt decided that the best option for this moment was to leave. He arose, unpacking his towel, gave Y/n an unsure but calm expression, and left for the river.
Y/n was left ruminating in her own self-loathing and confusion. She got up, set her bedroll onto the floor and lay down, away from Jaskier’s, nearest to Roach as she enjoyed her company. “Oh, fuck it.” She quickly got up, snatched Jaskier’s lute from his belongings, positioning herself on her bedroll, cross-legged, facing out into the forest. She started to play, first quietly, and once she knew she wasn’t heard, a bit louder.
A few minutes later, as Jaskier and Geralt made their way back from the river, they started to hear music, “What- What is that? Geralt?” Jaskier spun around a few times as he tried to discern where it was coming from. Geralt’s lower eyelids rose in amusement. Jaskier took in an overly dramatic breath, “She. Took. My LUTE!” He spat possessively and began to take off before Geralt lunged forward, wrapping his big hand around Jaskier’s left arm and yanking him backward, earning a squeak from the bard, “Jaskier.” He growled, “What? It’s mine! She wouldn’t play anyw-!”
“Listen.”
They became quiet, inching closer to the sound until they could finally hear clearly. After a few moments, Jaskier’s mouth opened in awe. They made their way closer to the clearing to listen. Geralt watched Jaskier, he was leaning his head and hand against a tree, patiently listening, with the most genuine loving expression he had seen on the bard yet.
“She’s ethereal, isn’t she? I knew she was good.” Jaskier’s mouth was hardly moving as he whispered, trying to make as little sound as possible so that he could listen, “Why would she keep such beauty from me?”
“She’s scared.” Geralt said under his breath, “She’s.. She’s what? She’s scared?” Jaskier’s brows furrowed in confusion, “She doesn’t want to perform in front of you because she doesn’t believe that she’s good enough. She said you’d laugh.” Geralt shrugged and shook his head, “I can’t believe it.” Jaskier’s eyes were staring at the forest floor, melancholic but still heavy with emotion. Y/n smiled, gently setting the lute down, “Is that where he left it, Roach? I think that’s where he left it. I hope so. I don’t want to be singing to him any time soon.”
Jaskier crept his way out from within the trees, “You just did.” He gave a friendly smile and a pathetically nervous wave of his hand. Y/n sucked in a big breath, “Jaskier..?” Her eyes were wide and piercing as if she were a child being caught carving into the house walls by her parent, “I listened, Lady Y/n. You have a beautiful voice.” Jaskier swallowed anxiously, approaching as if she were a wild rabbit about to flee, which she was, “No. You don’t mean that.” Y/n got up, retrieving her towel from her bag, clutching it to her chest, trying to steady her breath, “I’m sorry for using your lute, Jask. I- I just wanted to play, I’ve missed it.” Geralt made his way out from within the trees, “Calm down, Y/n.” His voice was soft yet stern, “I can’t, Geralt. Sorry, Jaskier..” “Please, don’t apologise, that was the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard!” Jaskier’s voice got louder the further away Y/N got as she panicked and ran to the river, Jaskier’s eyes followed her then made their way to Geralt, brows furrowing heavily, “Are you going to tell me what just bloody happened? I was being nice! To a bard! And I meant it!” He raised his shoulders and eyebrows in sync. Geralt's eyelids lowered, his face muscles relaxing, “Surprising.” Geralt sat back down on his bedroll, folding his arms and looking at the stars. However, when he glanced over, Jaskier was looking at him expectantly, “What?” Geralt asked lazily, “What do you mean ‘what’? Tell me what’s wrong with Y/n?”
“Fine.”
Y/n exhaled heavily as she entered the water to bathe. The cool water helping her anxious feelings towards Jaskier, “Gods, I shouldn’t have touched his lute at all. Fuck. What if his feelings change?” She sat, speaking to the trees, a light breeze falling over her frame along with the moonlight, and the hairs on her skin pricking upwards. After what seemed like an hour, she plucked up the courage to get dry and dressed and return to their miniature camp. Entering the clearing with a big breath, the first thing she laid her now tired eyes upon was Geralt meditating. She smiled, wishing she had the mental power to sit in silence for that long. Looking to the right she saw Jaskier.. Fast asleep. Snoring. Incredibly loudly. Her chest felt heavy and loving as she stood watching him sleep. Turning towards her own bedroll, suddenly feeling tired, she took in a soft gasp. Jaskier’s lute was resting on her pillow with a handwritten note with many words scribbled onto it but the ones most notable were “I did mean it. You can play my lute anytime, beautiful lady Y/n.” Y/N sighed, smiled widely and that night, slept with Jaskier’s lute by her side.

She was looking for something, anything that lead far away from the dimmed light of the castle. The gowns that fit to tight, for poor Y/n she may have a crown with diamonds and sapphires but her heart desired more. It yearned for something less showy, and more homey feeling. Sure she had a wonderful set of parents. A loving mother and father, but what they could not give their daughter was that true and rare feeling of walking outside the castle walls, being just another person among the streets.
Once the handmaiden had left I was rushing for the windows, as I looked over the edge the ground came close and then far all in a moments time. I shook the image from my head, and went in search of better outside attire. The sheer night gown wasn’t going to cut it if I was going to make it down the side of my window and into the village. From my room the village looked small, the hundreds of flames that flickering back and forth in the the wind.
Had I been stealing the young girls clothes that worked in the kitchen in exchange for extra coins so that I could go out in a disguise… of course I had it was the only way that I was going to be able to go without causing a very big scene. I only ever got to out once or twice a year. One of holidays and the other for any special announcements. I wanted to be where the people were, the bustle of feet on the dirty paths left dust to fall onto your shoes. I wanted nothing more then to feel normal even if it were just for one night.
The girls clothes were a bit tight around my hips and my bust, but I could care less as I climbed down the stone wall of the castle. Landing feet first on wet, dewey grass. The air had a biting chill yet it didn’t scare me away from exploring the village. I made my way around guards, and others before finally making it to the gate. A gate was all the stood in my way of the village, the people the ones that loved us without knowing why.
The side of the said huge gate was a small door, no bigger then my bedroom door. I twisted the handle, and pulled but it didn’t budge. Panic began to arise in from the pits of my chest. I swallowed hard when footsteps got louder. I jiggled the handle and with a push of my hand the door opened. I leaped through the doorway, shutting the door without thinking for another second. I was sure that I had thought this far yet standing here now. On the other side of the gate I was frozen with fear, and with the unknown ahead of me I stood there. Minutes passed by before the sheer fact that I was outside of the castle walls hit me like a ton of bricks.
My cheeks bagan to burn with a smile so great, I don’t think I’d ever smiled like this, not even for a painting of my portrait. Confidence began to grow in my chest, and with that my feet were taking me on my first adventure to the village. The streets weren’t crowded as how I had imagined it, but the flames that were ablaze in almost every window told me life was still happening just inside right now. I walked the streets for what seemed like hours until the loud banter, and laughter came from a shabby looking building not far off the path.
A wonky sign laid lopsided on the top of the building. Simply written it said ‘The Tavern’. The sounds of a few voices rang out from behind the doors, and windows. Drunken men and women stumbling out onto the path. Nonetheless the sounds of a beautiful voice dragged me nearer. The beautiful voice turned out to be singing. A tale from what I caught just the end of. “That’s my epic tale, Our champion prevailed, Defeated the villain, Now pour home some ale” His voice rang out across the tarven. He sat atop a table, a lute laid across his lap. He was so beautiful, or handsome whatever he was words could not describe, so I watched in awe. “Toss a coin to your Witcher, O Valley of Plenty!, O Valley of Plenty!, Toss a coin to your Witcher, A friend of humanity.” His riff was remarkable, and yet all I could do was stare at him from afar. Blue eyes staring out into the crowded floor of patrons in front of him.
I wanted deeply to talk to him, my bones ached for conversation with the man with blue eyes. Confidence oozed from him across the grimmy, and dirty floor stopping just before it would ever get to me. I ducked my head out of the tarven, and walked away from my growing obsession. Except I didn’t just walk away, I ran like a bat out of hell. I ran so far that I somehow managed toget myself right back at the tarven the next night, the following night after that, and so many more just hoping. Crossing my fingers that the bard would be there singing another one of his tales. Singing, drawing me in, closer and closer every night.
Just for the off chance that the bard would be there. I had gotten so good at climbing from down my bedroom window that I knew exactly when I could leave, who was posted on guard and that the small door next to the gate was always left open. The plans of getting back in were always harder, or maybe I should that they were getting harder. With every chance I was able to descend down the castle walls the more aggriant I got. With every walk on the dirt path to the tarven the nights turns into days quicker and quicker. That meant the plans of getting back into the castle walls only got harder.
Yet I cared not for as long as I got to gaze, and hear the sounds of his angelic voice ring through my ears. Most night it traveled behind me like a bird singing her morning song. It kept me calm before the morning started and the drag of the day took place. Where tight corsets, and snickering happened.
It wasn’t till the summer night cooled down, and the fall began to liter the ground it it browned and reddned leafs that I was caught by none other then the bard himself. Now let me make this perfectly clearly I’m yes a shy person, but there’s something about the way he talked to me when he first laid his eyes on me. I had talked to men before, been courted about a dozen times. Never having worked out due to one thing or another. I had danced at court with a few genetlman, but never tallked to someone from outside that proteigous realm of people. Fear had settled, and I stuff my heels in the dirty waiting for the worst to happen.
Except it didn’t, because why would the worst happen?
“You aren’t new here,” The bard said as he snuck up from behind me. Shaking me with a sort of fear I wasn’t used to. I swallowed down the fear, and the scream that wanted to come out. “No.” That was a simple answer, but all the sudden I didn’t want to talk I just wanted to look at him. I wanted to be the invisible girl behind the crowd of people that looked but never dared to touch. “I see you every time I’m in here.” I nodded, “Oh how rude of me, the names Jaskier, and you are?” In a moments time I had turned looked him up and down. Now that he was standing right here, now that he was in touching distance. Everything was blown out of proportions for me. Lean frame but built good, a fresh dandelion smell wafted from his clothes
The words that wanted to come out were stuck in the back of my very dry throat. He must have sensed my painc, “How about this we can get a drink, or we can get the hell out of this loud place maybe go for a walk?” Jaskier offered, I nodded my head, “I’ll take you meant the second thing.” I nodded again words still not wanting to come out in a coherent sentence. He lead the path through women and men standing around near the door, and out onto the dirt path. “This is better?” He asked me. “Yeah…” The words they were working now, he smiled brightly at me even though the dimmed flames and the moon light gave me little to work with I knew his face like the back of my hand. Many a night I just stare at him.
“My names Y/n.” Finally getting up the courage to answer his first question ‘Well that’s a beautiful name, Y/n.” My names rolls off his lips with a sort of grace that most people don’t even have at court. “And I must say that it fits your beauty as well.” A chamer this man is, I swallow hard trying to will the heat that grows at the edges of my cheek bones. The conversation starts to grow into something I’d never had with anyone else. His voice is so soothing that when the first sight of sun rays hit the horizon I’m not even paying attention.
When the blinding rays hit my eyes, the panic rises in my chest, “I’m sorry Jaskier I have to get going.” My words rushing out of my mouth, and Jaskier doesn’t understand what’s going on. “I’ll see you again right?’ He asks as I start to walk away. “Of course.” I say without even thinking, ‘And even if you don’t I’ll see you’ I think to myself as I run as fast as my feet with allow.
This friendship grows every night I see him, he’s there in the tarven every night. Singing about tales of the past, and then the songs they turn into something else. Songs about her beauty, oh how she must be something from the heavens. As our frienship grows so does my confidence and one night without thinking as Jaskier is going on and on about something I lean in, kissing his lip ever so gently. He shuts up almost automatically. “What… what was that for?” He barely manages to get out. “You’re just so very handsome.” I mutter. My lips are burning with a sensation I’ve never felt before.
Kissing Jaskier becomes the only thing I can think about, the only thing that I want to do. The thing that wakes me in the morning when the stray lights of morning sun hit my face, when I sit at lunch with my mother and father. It’s the driving force that has me climbing out the window even when the icy wind picks up and chills me to my bones. Summer having come and gone now that winter is here the outside conversation and little kisses become to hard to have. So Jaskier suggests we get a room, “A room?” I ask not understanding, “actually we don’t have to get it, since I’ve been paying for the room since I met you. It’s just above the tarven.” Jaskier says it as if it’s the most normal thing on the planet.
The night with the searing wind hitting the window the rooms chills and the banter down the stairs is muted by the sounds of Jaskier kissing my lips and my neck. Something turns into more, and more turns into ecstasy. It’s all I want now, I have no want to leave when the morning hits the brim of the world. I just want Jaskier. I want his hands on me forever, I want his everything he has to give me. Yet when the church bells go off I have to leave him. I hasetly dress myself, rushing down stairs bumping into people. Barely making it to the castle walls, or through the smal door. My heart is racing as I leap into bed awaiting the regular knock on my bedroom door.
“Princess Y/n, are you awake?” The small voices asks from the other side of the door. “You may come in.” I say trying to make my voice seems calm. That night I was right back out the window. The small gate and to him, “Where did you go?” Jaskier asks caring not that he had stopped his sings thrown down his lute. “I… I was…” The words can’t and won’t come out even if I tried to make them. “Did I do something? Was I too rough with you, please Y/n just explain.” Jaskier begs. “That was my first time jaskier.” I say in a whispered breath. His eyes widden, “Oh my dear sweet dove.” He says reaching over to grasps my cheek I melt into his touch. “I wish you would have said.” He mutters as he presses his forehead into mine. Nose brushing against nose.
The night takes a turn for a sweet cuddle between a set of warmed sheets. Jaskier keeps his lips to himself for a little awhile then I want him to. “I’m sorry I didn’t say…” Jaskier hushes me before I can even finish my thought. “I should have reliazed my love, that’s on me. But I promise if you give me anothe chance I’ll be gently and kind with your mind, and body.” Jaskier says before pressing kisses into my exposed skin. His hands are searching for my skin, and my hands are searching for something to ground me to him.
The moment is ripped away from the both of us, when a knock, a hard knock happens to befall the door. Jaskier looks up at me, then towards the door. “I must have forgotten my lute downstairs. I’ll be right back my love.” Jaksier says pressing a chaste kiss into my lips. He opens the door, I can see the flame shine in the metal of their armor. “Where is she?” He guard asks Jaskier. His voice booming hitting all the walls around me. Jaskier stands there dumbfounded. “Who?” Jaskier asks, and I bear witness to the fall of his expression when the guard tells him that they are indeed looking for the princess, “Princess Y/n, there have been reports of her here at this tarven. With you.”
The moment still, and everything happens in slow motion. Jaskeir turning to look at me. I’m left with my mouth gaping open. “Your the princess.” He doesn’t sound angry, or really like anything. “I… didn’t mean for…” “Princess Y/n, you have to come back to the castle with…” Guards then see the state that I am in, clothes half off my clothes and in the bed, hair a mess. The next few things area blur, the chains that end up circling Jaskier wrist, and a guards drags the both of us back to the castle.
That large gate opening. “Why?” Jaskier asks,m before a guards slaps him, and tell him he isn’t allowed to talk to me. I’m walked to the court where my father and mother are sitting there with worry written on their expression. While Jaskier is taken in the opposite direction. “My king, this man was seen with the princess. We caught him with her in bed.” The guard says prideful; of his actions.
“Why could you do this?’ My mother asks, “Because she’s spoiled rotten that’s why.” My father answers her question. “I’m not spoiled rotten.” I disagree, “You are to go to your room, and someone needs to bind her windows up. I will not have my daughter making a fool out of the crown for what a bard.” He spits venom out at me. I bit my inner cheek willing the tears to go awau but nothing helps, not when I know that I had caused all of this. Hours later a knock comes to my door, my mother comes in through the door “Sweetheart.” I cry on my side thinking that I want is a moments time with jaskier. “It wasn’t his fault mother.” I tell her through hiccups, and shear breaths.
“Oh my sweet darling daughter, do you love him?” She asks me, as she combs her nimble fingers through the ends of my hair. “Mother I do not know.” I honestly do not know, “Of course you know.” My mother says all knowing, she’s probably right but I’m not sure Ic an say the words. Say the truth outloud. “Do you think I will be able to see him?” I ask my mother, she thinks for a moment. “Your father probably won’t allow it my dear.” The ears start to bubble over the edge of my lashes. “But I’ll see what we can do.” She promises me.
With that she kisses my forehead, and she’s out the door. I sit there for the rest of the night feeling sorry for myself, and Jaskier. I feel as if it’s all my fault. This feeling sits at the bottom on my stomach for what seems like weeks. It isn’t until those weeks turn into months does my mother come back. Giving me rather good, and bad news. “Sweetheart, I need to tell you a few things.” My mother said softly. “Yes mother.” “The boy is be putting to death, but you can talk to him before he goes to the gallows.” There was no warning or anything from her. “Right now?” I asked her, she nodded her.
I had never rushed down the stairs of the hallways so fast to just get to one person. “Jaskier!” “Y/N!” I followed the sounds of his angelic voice. When I reached thebar that held him in the cell. “Oh god, you’re so… I’ll go get something to clean your face up.” I said, “NO please don’t go.” Jaskier pleaded with me. “They will be taking me tothe gallows soon. I just wanted to see that beautiful face of your before I meet the heavenly gods.” Jaskier words hushed. “Oh Jaskier this is all my fault, but I… I have a way to fix it all. I promise.” His brows furrowed together. “What do you mean?” worry seeping into his voice all for me while he was going to be killed.
“Jaskier I would do anything for you. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for you, or for well anyone that I loved.” Jaskier looked me up and down. “What are you saying Y/n?” He asked as he eyed my hand on my stomach. “Please don’t do something so irrationally. I’m not worth your jewels, your titles, or your throne.” Jaskier pleaded with me, I scoff at him. “Of course you are Jask. You are worth it all because I love you.”
Jaskier is brought to the gallows with my father looking proud of himself, and my mother standing by his side. “Do you have any words to say before you are killed?” My father boasts. “I do.” The shock written over my fathers expression is hard to ignore. “Y/n sit down.” He demands, “No, I don’t care anymore. I will do anything for this man. Regardless of what you think I should do or not. I’m giving up my everything for him and our baby. I’d rather be happy and poor with Jaskier and our baby then be miserable and alone on the throne.” I said loud and clear, throwing my crown down to the ground. “Undo Jaskier chains, he and I will leave without a single word.” My father twitches with anger and as he’s about to burst at the seams my mother whispers into his ear.
Moments later, “Undo his chains and escort them out.” My father demands and with that when Jasker is in my arms the kiss of life brings both of us back together. “A child?” He asks against my lips. “Our child Jaskier.”

Something in the Orange (part 3)
Pairing: Lambert x female!sorceress!reader
Word count: 3 427
Summary:When Geralt of Rivia disappears, Jaskier has no choice but to ask his best friend for help. Although struggling with her own issues, Y/N agrees and they join Vesemir and the others in Kaer Morhen. The search might be difficult but not as difficult as the certain redheaded witcher who keeps challenging her.
A/n: I’m sorry for the long wait AGAIN but the last two months were wild. Enjoy!
Part 1 Part 2
After a couple of failed attempts, impatient mumbles from Ciri and words of encouragement from Jaskier, Y/N did it. The portal was right there in front of them. She felt dizzy and could feel her energy draining incredibly fast but she was awfully proud of herself. Making portals was always risky but this one seemed completely stable. The only problem is going to be keeping it open until everyone crosses.
“Go!” Y/N yells but no one looks like they are ready to go first.
Lambert, who was standing closest to the portal, moves a step back.
“I’m not going to be able to do this whole day. Go.” Y/N looks at him, keeping her arms steady in front of her.
“Why me? So you can close it as soon as I cross over?” he crosses arms. Y/N rolls her eyes and turns around to her best friend.
“Jaskier. Please.” she looks at him with hope in her eyes. Jaskier hesitates for a bit, but slowly nods.
As soon as he moves a step forward, Lambert scoffs and slightly shakes his head.
Jaskier doesn’t say anything but steps forward again.
“Fine, I’ll go first. Save your precious troubadour ass from potential downfall.” he says and steps forward, standing in Jaskier’s way. Jaskier slightly frowns at him, but doesn’t say anything, as if he’s trying to read his mind.
“Go!” Y/N repeats before both men could say anything else.
Lambert glances at her then steps in front of the portal. The portal makes a loud sound but nothing happens as Lambert’s hand slowly touches the dimmed veil. He hesitates for a second before finally stepping inside.
Y/N is holding her breath.
There’s no response from the portal when Lambert fully disappears. Portal is still stable. Y/N feels her heart beating like she just ran a marathon.
He crossed safely. He’s fine.
“Next!” she says, her voice shaky.
Jaskier, who was already on his way when Lambert stopped him, moves forward again.
His fits are nervously clenched but he looks determined.
Once he’s gone, the rest of the group looks a bit more certain now. Portal is still stable, but Y/N feels the energy shifting slightly. Ciri moves closer as soon as Jaskier is through.
“We will have to speed things up a bit.” Y/N tells Vesemir when Ciri crosses over without a word.
She could feel the portal taking more and more energy from her. Y/N wasn’t sure was Ciri’s magic somehow to be blamed for that but she didn’t want to question it any longer.
Vesemir nods and moves forwards immediately. He knew what this meant. Portal was going to be unstable soon.
As Vesemir passes through, Y/N feels something warm on her lips. Her nose was already bleeding.
Shit.
She still had Coen and herself to go through. Portal could go unstable any minute now.
“Coen, wait!” she calls for him. The witcher halts and turns to her. “We need to go together!” she tells him, with hint of panic in her voice.
Coen is visibly confused but nods in silence. He joins her and slowly they start to approach the portal. Y/N’s arms are slightly shaking at this point and her vision is getting blurry.
Come on, you can do this.
As they are about to enter, portal suddenly shatters.
“Jump!” Y/N screams, flinging herself towards. The white light surrounds her and forces her to close her eyes.
The pressure inside her own mind is insane. It lasts only for couple of seconds and then suddenly Y/N feels the ground beneath her and the heaviness is gone. She dares to open her eyes, fully prepared for the worst.
But there she is, standing in front of small rescue group.
Relief hits her and she falls down on her knees. All of her energy was gone. It’s going to take days before she’s fully healed. The energy drained from her by the portal was equivalent to an entire month's worth of effort for an oneiromancer’s work.
Jaskier runs towards her, grabbing her around the shoulders.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” brushing the blood off her lips. Jaskier immediately offers her a handkerchief and Y/N takes it.
“Where is Coen?” Lambert asks. Y/N looks at him and then around herself. He wasn’t there. Her heart sinks.
“Where is he?!” Lambert asks, this time, much louder. Y/N manages to stand up with Jaskier’s help.
“He didn’t-”
Lambert is standing in front of her, lifting his arms and aiming for Y/N’s shoulders. Or neck. Y/N couldn’t be too sure.
Whatever his goal was, Lambert was stopped by Vesemir, who suddenly appeared by his right side.
“That’s enough, let her explain.” Vesemir gives him a warning look. “Y/N.” he looks at her now.
“Coen should be just fine. He didn’t jump on time so the portal closed in front of him.” Y/N says, finally leaning on her own feet without Jaskier’s help. Her friend still stood near, monitoring her every movement. “He is unharmed. Probably just upset he didn’t cross over.” she adds.
“If he’s not-”
“Oh, won’t you give me a break! I just held the portal open for 5 people. He is alive and well!” Y/N snaps at redheaded witcher. Lambert’s brows furrowed but he didn’t say anything this time. He turns his back on her in utter silence.
“Now…where are we?” Jaskier quietly asks, looking around. Everyone else does the same. Unfortunately, there isn't much to go on. The eerie woodland lay shrouded in an ethereal mist, its gnarled trees stretching their skeletal branches toward an ominous sky. The air was heavy with the scent of damp earth and moss. Jaskier, who was still standing next to Y/N, slightly trembles when a distant howl fills their ears.
“Maybe it’s just me, but this doesn’t look like Hengfors.” Ciri mumbles. Y/N feels the wave of shame overwhelm her. She really believed she was powerful enough to do this right.
It was still an early morning but the dense, dark clouds hindered the sunlight from piercing through. With each passing moment, the mist enveloping them grew denser and heavier.
“No, but we have to find our way there.” Vesemir adds calmly. Y/N slowly makes a step forward and approaches him.
“I’m sorry-” Y/N says. Vesemir’s yellow eyes stared at her with a piercing gaze. “Do not apologize, Y/N. You helped us.”
“We don’t even know where we are.” Y/N says feeling the slight dizziness overcome her again.
“We will get to the closest town. We should head west.” he says, this time to the whole group, which meant their discussion was over.
Vesemir took the lead and Ciri followed, tightly gripping the hilt of her silver sword.
Y/N nervously swallowed. Despite taking a deep breath, the dizziness persisted. She wouldn’t dare to stop the group for her own troubles. She had to walk.
Jaskier, who remained by her side, regarded her with a gaze filled with concern. Y/N felt even worse. She didn’t want anyone’s pity for her own failure.
“I’m fine. We should go.” she tells him.
“Can you walk?” he asks, obviously not convinced. Y/N nods and takes a few steps forward. The bard lets out a sigh, refraining from uttering a word, and began trailing behind Ciri.
Y/N's attention was drawn to Lambert's figure, catching a glimpse of him behind her with the corner of her eye. She didn’t like him walking behind her but had no energy or desire to fight him again.
The group walked in a tranquil silence, enveloped by the ambient sounds of nature that surrounded them. Even Jaskier remained quiet, occupied with his own thoughts and worries about their current location.
But no one blamed Y/N. Not even the red headed witcher at the end of the line.
Y/N fixated on her own steps, each one proving more difficult than the last. All she wanted now was to lay down and sleep for days.
***
After a few hours of (mostly) silent walking, the landscape around them began to change - woodland was replaced by eerie swamp. Y/N took a deep breath. The air became infused with a pungent aroma, carrying the unmistakable scent of decaying vegetation and stagnant water that defined the wetland.
Muscles in Y/N’s legs were screaming. Her whole body did. She had reached the point where she truly didn't know how much longer she could continue walking. When she finally raised her gaze from the ground, which had captivated her attention for the past half hour, she came to the realization that she had fallen behind. Jaskier now walked at least 10 meters ahead of her, leaving her with the undeniable awareness that her pace had slowed down.
“We have to pick up the pace. We don't want to be trapped in a swamp when it gets dark.” Vesemir shouted from upfront. Lambert, who was still walking behind Y/N quietly, didn’t say anything, but Y/N heard his steps getting closer to her now. When he finally bypassed her, Y/N felt helpless. Her own feet were betraying her. She struggled to focus on each step, but her vision was blurring with every moment.
She abruptly stopped. At last, her body yielded to the unforgiving grasp of exhaustion, and her knees crumpled to the ground with a muffled thud. Y/N’s eyes already closed when she felt someone’s hands catch her around her waist.
As her consciousness slipped away, she was embraced by the sudden darkness.
***
She slowly regained consciousness, her eyelids fluttering open to reveal the unfamiliar surroundings. Groggy and disoriented, Y/N took a deep breath, feeling her body gradually come back to life.
“Y/N!” she heard a familiar voice next to her. She moves her head to the side. Jaskier lowered himself into a crouch beside her, immediately helping her to sit up. Y/N looks around.
By the sound surrounding them, she was sure they were still in the wetlands. A disappointed sigh escaped her lips.
“Why didn’t you say anything?” Jaskier asks her, monitoring her face as if she was about to faint again.
“I didn’t want us to stop walking.” she mutters, trying to get up on her unsteady feet. It was pitch darkness around them, the only light sources were small lanterns placed around their improvised campsite.
“Sit down! We won't be going anywhere until morning.” he scolds her.
“Jaskier, I’m fine. We can go.”
“That’s what you said the last time and then fainted into that revolting mud.” he retorted with a tinge of frustration in his voice.
Suddenly Y/N remembers the last moment before the world blackened in front of her eyes. She instinctively touches her waist, as if expecting to still feel the lingering touch of hands upon it.
“But you got me. I didn’t fell.” she says, unsure in her own words. Was it Jaskier? Or was she imagining the whole thing?
“I-I didn’t.” Jaskier says reluctantly, his eyes suddenly looking away from her. Y/N frowns.
“Jaskier…”
“Fine! It was him!” he finally confessed, lowering his voice. Then his gaze shifted to Y/N’s left side. She slowly turns her head.
Lambert.
He rested against a fallen ash tree; arms crossed over his chest with his head slightly bowed down. He was asleep. Or at least looked like he was. Y/N wasn’t even sure if witchers ever properly slept.
“Him?” Y/N whispers but there was panic in her voice.
“Yes, him.” Jaskier says impatiently, still looking at the redheaded witcher. “He carried you for an hour without a word. When I insisted that I should be the one to carry you, he told me to get lost. Can you imagine!” he says, not even bothering to hide his reluctance.
Just as Y/N was about to voice her complaint, the witcher's sudden movement startle them both, causing them to jerk back in surprise.
“In fact, I believe my exact words were ‘sod off’.” Lambert mutters to Jaskier, but his gaze is pierced on Y/N. Y/N’s mouth open but she’s speechless.
Why on earth would he carry me?
Jaskier stood up. With an indignant huff, he straightened his posture. "Well then, aren't you a delightful specimen of manners." he retorted, his voice dripping with sarcasm.
Lambert glances at him with a sardonic smirk, clearly amused. “Happy to be of service.”
“Alright, now that’s settled...” Y/N interveners, still feeling uncomfortable. “Where are we?”
“Somewhere near Creyden or Luton. Braa river is this way.” Lambert turns the point of his dagger to the north.” We won’t be sure until the morning.”
Y/N took a moment to realize where they are. “So…I didn’t mess up.”
“What do you mean ‘mess up?” Jaskier asks with confusion. Y/N finally manages to get up on her own feet. She located her leather bag just a few steps away from her. Thankfully, she carried a map with her!
“Hengfors,” she exclaims optimistically as she crouched down, “is just right behind us.” Y/N lowers the map on the somewhat of a flat stone. With a quick motion, she straightens the crumpled piece of paper. Jaskier and Lambert appear beside her, each holding a lantern to illuminate the map.
“If your assumptions are right, we should be right here.” she points to a blank part of the paper, surrounded by four cities – Blaviken, Luton, Jamurlak and Hengfors.
“Fuck.” Lambert quietly says, turning around. Y/N’s optimism suddenly vanishes.
“Isn’t that good? We know where we are.” she asks, standing up again. Lambert doesn’t look at her, but somewhere in the black void that was surrounding them.
“These roads are feeding grounds for kikimoras.” he mutters, as the flickering glow of the lantern bounced off the contours of his stern face.
“Of course they are.” Jaskier anxiously uttered his words, his throat tight with tension.
Y/N felt the chills down her spine. She never encountered any monsters. She had no idea how to fight. She didn’t need to do that in Novigrad anyway.
“I’m sure you have plenty of experience in fighting monsters with Geralt, bard.” Lambert mocks him, lowering the lantern on the ground.
“Actually I’m- “
“Don’t answer that.” Y/N interrupts him. “Where are Ciri and Vesemir?” she decides to change the subject.
“They are taking turns guarding the camp.” Lambert answers and settles down on the very same tree where Y/N first spotted him when she woke up. “My shift just ended so excuse me for a next hour or two.”
Y/N and Jaskier return to the spot where Y/N woke up and they sit down on her bedroll.
“You should sleep too, you know.” Y/N tells her friend. Jaskier shakes his head immediately.
“Not a chance. I’ll watch over you.”
“I just woke up. You should be the one sleeping.” she insists.
“I’m not-”
“You don’t own me anything, Jaskier.” she gently nudges his arm, smiling at her friend.
“I do. And least I can do is let you sleep.”
“You won’t be of any use to me tomorrow if you’re going to be tired.” Y/N continues. Jaskier lets out a sigh. Heavy-lidded and burdened with the weight of exhaustion, his eyes were veiled by a haze of fatigue.
“Fine. But only for a few minutes.” he says, leaning against the log behind him. “Promise you’ll wake me up.”
***
Y/N, of course, did not wake up the bard. She sat there, surrounded by the darkness of the eerie swamp and just watched. Her surroundings were mostly quiet – occasional hoots or croaking from shallow waters. The night seemed peaceful which calmed her nerves.
As the early light of dawn emerged on the horizon, Vesemir and Ciri made their way back to their camp. Despite their appearance of alertness, Y/N knew that the lack of rest was taking its toll on them.
“Someone’s finally awake.” Ciri says with a mocking tone, but the smile on her face was friendly.
“I’m sorry-”
"Pay no attention to her, Y/N," Vesemir softly adds, tossing a flask full of water towards the girl. Ciri catches it swiftly, gulping down half of it in an instant. Older witcher walks over to Y/N and gazes at the slumbering bard. Jaskier's mouth is slightly ajar, emitting gentle snores as he rests peacefully.
“Not quite a guardian, that one.”
“I told him to sleep.” Y/N explains and finally gets up on her feet. She felt safer now when they were all together again. Ciri joined Lambert, gently tapping him on the shoulders. Witcher instantly opened his eyes and looked at the group surrounding him.
It was time to move.
Few hours and lots of kilometres later, they finally saw signs of civilization. The sun had risen high in the sky, yet it offered little warmth. Vesemir and Ciri were leading the group, but even their firm steps started to slow down after a while. Jaskier was awfully quiet again, but Y/N knew better than to ask questions.
And behind her, there was Lambert again.
From time to time, Y/N swore she could feel his gaze but when she subtly turned around to check, he wasn’t looking. It was annoying and distracting, she realized, but there was nothing to say or do without starting another fight with stubborn man.
It was late afternoon when they finally reached the city of Luton. If such a place could even be called city, Y/N thought. At the core of the city lay a bustling and malodorous port, where the constant cries of seagulls filled the air, circling overhead as they mingled with the scent of the sea.
Vesemir suddenly stops and turns around to face the group.
“Alright. This is where we split up. Ciri-” he turns to the girl “Find us a supply shop. Herbs, oils, whatever you can think of.”
Ciri nods and leaves, not waiting for other instructions. Y/N is nervously looking around, not really sure if splitting up is good idea.
“Jaskier.” Vesemir turns to face the bard. Jaskier clears his throat and steps forward as he was waiting for his instructions. “Find us a quiet inn for tonight. Not too crowded nor too empty. Somewhere we won’t draw attention. Find me here in an hour.”
“Got it.” Jaskier nods quickly, looks around a few times and then leaves in the same direction where Ciri left just few seconds ago. Y/N knew it was her turn now.
Vesemir turns to her, with a soft look in his eyes. “Y/N. You’re going to snoop around. Look for the notice boards. Eavesdrop for the stories about our whereabouts. If someone is looking for us, we have less time than we thought.” he says, occasionally glancing around. Y/N suddenly straightens her back, as she feels chills going down her spine.
“Where should I meet you?” she asks quietly.
“We will find you after everything is prepared.” Vesemir says. Y/N quietly nods and decides to follow Ciri’s and Jaskier’s direction.
“Oh, and Y/N.” Vesemir adds before she has the chance to make another step forward. “Take Lambert with you.”
Both Y/N and Lambert groan.
“I can do this on my own, Vesemir.” Y/N says. Vesemir’s eyes suddenly darken.
“Can you? Could you defeat a drunkard who wants to fight you? Would you find a thief who steals your bag or money? “He asks her, his voice suddenly colder. Y/N suddenly feels ashamed and doesn’t know what to answer. She was a sorceress. If things got out of hand she could always rely on her magic. But she knew that would be the end of her. This wasn’t Novigrad – and magic wasn’t welcomed here.
“And you” suddenly he turns to Lambert. “Stay out of trouble. Keep an eye on Y/N. And don’t draw attention to yourselves.”
Lambert looks at Y/N and then back to Vesemir. “Got it.” he mutters and joins Y/N.
“What about-” Lambert was about to ask, but when he turned around again to face Vesemir, he was already out of sight. “Fast for an old man.” he mutters and faces Y/N. He looks at her for couple of seconds and sighs.
“What?” she asks, even more nervous now when he was completely focused on her.
“You’re not good at this, you know.” Lambert says and approaches her. Y/N freezes when his hands move towards her shoulders. He grabs the edges of her coat and pulls the hood over her head. Y/N frowns a little.
“Of course I’m not! I generally don’t waste my days hiding around foul-smelling cities or looking for kidnapped witchers.” she finally says, crossing arms on her chests.
“Well today is your lucky day, your highness.” he grins and pulls hood over his own head as well.
“Let’s go.”

Rare Encounters (Jaskier x f!witcher!reader)
A/N: hi guys…. I finished Fallout the tv show and it gave me that urge to write that I haven’t had in a while. Now fingers crossed that it works for the long run. Once I can get a good feel for the Fallout universe, my ass will 100% be writing fallout fics 😂
Warnings: nothing outside of canon
Summary: Jaskier meets his first female witcher.
“I swear, you all live like fucking pigs.” You grumbled as you picked up the empty tankards and bowls.
“Oh, just relax, Y/N.” Lambert spoke from across the room. He sat at a table with most of the other wolves as they told stories and carried on. “No one cares what this place looks like.”
“I do, as should you.” You placed the dirty dishes on to the end of one of the empty tables. “Who is going to be doing dishes tonight?”
All of the wolves diverted their eyes away from you.
“Oh come on, boys. It’s just dishes. You’ve done worse, I’m sure of it.”
“I’d rather gut an ekimorra than do house chores.” Coen shook his head.
“Alright. Well then, I’ll just choose for myself who will be the lucky one.”
“When are ya goin’ to get eaten by a cockatrice or something, Y/N?” The redhead wolf teased. “All this nagging you do is–,”
With a flick of your wrist and a sign of aard, Lambert was sent backwards off of the bench. You grinned just a little.
“You fucking–,” He signed aard back at you the second he was on his feet, but you were quick to sign quen, blocking his attack.
“Don’t start that this early in the winter, Lambert.” Vesemir scolded him as he moved to sit next to Coen.
“Me?” Lambert raised his brows. “She’s the one who started it!”
The doors to the keep opened, bringing in a rush of cold wind. You looked up to see Geralt, a man, and a girl walking in.
The wolves fell silent as Geralt pushed the hood off of his head. A fond smile came to his lips.
“Where the fuck have you been?” Lambert stood to his feet and took a few steps towards his brother. Coen followed.
“We thought you were dead, or lost.”
“Not yet.” Geralt embraced Coen first and then Lambert.
All the other wolves soon took their turn greeting their fellow witcher.
“Y/N.” He said your name fondly. “Glad to see you didn’t let Lambert get you killed on the path.”
“I about killed her myself a couple times.” Lambert glared at you. “She’s like having a second Vesemir around, except some how she’s worse!”
You gave him a shove away from you, rolling your eyes.
“That’s the last time I spend time with you on the path.” Your words were directed to Lambert while you gave Geralt a hug. “Now I have to spend the entire winter in this gods damned keep with him too.”
“Have you seen Eskel, Geralt?” Lambert returned to his seat.
“He’s not here?” Geralt furrowed his brow.
“Haven’t seen any sign of him.” Coen shook his head. “Usually he’s one of the first one’s here, but hasn’t made it this year.”
“Hmm.”
“Wolf. You’re home.” Vesemir was the last to greet the White Wolf.
“I had to make a few stops.” Geralt looked back to the girl and the man to his left.
Your eyes fell on her. Your medallion had trembled when she first entered the room and even now, you could still feel the chaos radiating off of her. She seemed curious, bright eyes taking in every witcher around her. Then she looked at you. You held her gaze, lifting your chin just a little in acknowledgement.
You turned to continue cleaning up the mess the wolves left behind as introductions were made between Geralt’s guests and the wolves.
“And who might she be?” Jaskier asked Geralt as you picked up an empty pitcher from the table the wolves sat at.
“Y/N here is the maid of the keep.” Lambert answered for you. His eyes followed you as you moved around the table, a little grin playing on his lips. “Helps keep everything all nice and clean for us men.”
You launched the pitcher at his head. He dodged to the side, nearly pushing Coen off of the bench in the process.
“You’re going to get yourself into trouble this winter, Lambert.” Vesemir warned him.
“This is Y/N.” Geralt introduced you properly. He and his guests took a seat at the table with the rest of the wolves. “She’s our sister.”
“Sister?” Ciri repeated, furrowing her brows. “As in a witcher?”
“It would seem that way.” You confirmed with a slight nod and a sigh.
“That’s absolutely amazing!” Jaskier exclaimed. “A lady witcher.”
“I think calling her a lady may be overselling it.” Coen snickered.
“Yeah, she ain’t no lady.” Lambert added.
You moved to lean in between him and Coen, reaching for an empty plate. As you were turning away from the table, you made sure to purposefully smack both of the wolves in the head with the plate.
“Fuck!”
“Why don’t you boys make yourselves useful and go do these dishes before they get out of hand?” You placed the bin of dirty dishes down in front of Coen.
They grumbled but decided not to fight it. If they did dishes now, they wouldn’t have to do them later. Or so they thought.
“You’ve never mentioned that you had a sister, Geralt.”
The White Wolf grumbled in his chest as he looked at his bard. It was a warning. He knew very well how Jaskier was with the opposite sex.
“Geralt doesn’t like to do such a thing.” You settled with sitting at the end of a bench at one of the tables. “I would take away all the spotlight from the grand White Wolf. If word got out about a lady witcher, why, the White Wolf wouldn’t be so exciting, now would he?”
Geralt rolled his eyes at you as he moved to the table that had a jug of ale and mugs. He poured himself a mug and then returned to sit across from you.
“If it wouldn’t be too much, I would absolutely love to hear more about you.” Jaskier sat down just beside Geralt. He leaned against the table with both hands and his voice oozed with excitement. “You see, I am a bard by trade. Perhaps you’ve heard some of my work.”
You gazed into his blue eyes, a grin tugging at the corner of your scarred lips.
“You’re a brave soul, bard.”
He smiled a bit bashfully, cheeks flushing light pink.
“Why, thank you.”
“It wasn’t a compliment.” Geralt told him. His words made Jaskier’s smile drop.
“What? Of-Of course it was!”
“It was more of an observation, bard.” You said. “Not many could come to a witcher’s keep and ask a witcher to share her war stories just moments after meeting her.”
“Jaskier has no fear.” Geralt sighed.
“Well, I-I wouldn’t say that. I have plenty of fear.”
You smiled a little at the bard.
“How was the Path this year?” Geralt changed the subject. “I can’t imagine spending the whole year with Lambert was pleasant.”
“Oh, it was anything but pleasant.” You let out a small breath, scratching your fingertips over a groove in the wooden tabletop. “I’d rather have my eyes gouged out with spoons than spend that much time with him.”
Geralt chuckled a little.
“Y/N!” You heard Coen shout your name from the kitchen. You turned your head to the side, listening closely to what was going on.
Geralt furrowed his brows a little and tilted his head. He could also hear the roughhousing going on in the kitchen.
“Ah, fuck.” You grunted, pushing yourself to your feet.
“Is something wrong?” Jaskier asked you.
“My brothers are fools. Excuse me, bard. Princess.”
Jaskier watched as you crossed the room and disappeared behind a heavy wooden door. He didn’t realize he had been staring for too long until the White Wolf grumbled.
The bard turned his head to his traveling companion, brows falling and lips pressing together in a line as he found the witcher glaring at him.
“What?”
“Don’t think about it.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“You get that same look in your eye when we go to banquets. That same look has gotten you nearly killed for bedding the wrong woman.”
“Geralt! Have a little faith in me! That is your sister for crying out loud! I-I would— I would never—,”
“Unfortunately, I know you too well, Jaskier.”
Jaskier found himself looking back to the door you had disappeared through. A sheepish smile crossed his lips.
“She is rather stunning, isn’t she?”
“Jaskier.”
“It’s a compliment!”
Geralt shook his head.
“She will rip you to pieces.”
“Isn’t that the hope?” Jaskier grinned.
“Gross.” Ciri scrunched her nose up. She had been so quiet that Jaskier almost forgot that they were in the company of the young girl.
“Sorry, Ciri.”
***
You carried a mug in one hand as you left the kitchen. It had been a few hours since Geralt and his guests had arrived. By now, night had fallen on Kaer Morhen. Lambert was preparing a late dinner for everyone. Coen and Vesemir were fixing a fallen shelf in the library. Ciri was in the library reading through a few books to pass time.
Geralt and Jaskier were just getting back in from checking on the horses.
“So I see you changed your mind about your Child Surprise.” You spoke. Your voice reverberated off of the walls.
“Didn’t have much of a choice. Cintra was overtaken by Nilfgard. She has no one.”
“Well, now she has us.” You took a seat on a bench but kept your back to the table. Geralt and Jaskier sat the same way, with their backs to the table just across from you.
A door across the room creaked as it was opened. Being that the door was behind you, you had to turn your head and your upper half to be able to see Vesemir.
“Where’s Ciri?” Geralt asked him.
“Left her in the library. She seemed rather interested in an old beastiary.” Vesemir poured himself a mug of ale.
“To think we have a princess here in the walls of Kaer Morhen.” You shook your head, finishing off the last bit of your drink. “This winter is going to be an interesting one.”
“She isn’t the first princess here.” Geralt said. Your eyes met his briefly before you looked away.
“What does that mean?” Jaskier looked to Geralt for an explanation.
“Oh, it doesn’t matter.” Vesemir took a seat next to you. “All that matters is we don’t try to kill each other this winter.”
“Lambert is at the very top of my list.” You told him. “The first chance I get, I’m going to suffocate him in his sleep.”
“Y/N.” Vesemir scolded.
“Where do you hail from, Y/N?” Jaskier asked you.
“Ard Carraigh, though that was more than a lifetime ago.” You looked down at your empty tankard.
The sound of the horses out in the stables made you turn your head towards the door. You furrowed your brows, unsure of what had them stirring.
“Something’s bothering the horses.” Geralt grunted.
“I will go see to it.” Vesemir sighed as he stood to his feet.
“Do you want one of us to come with you?” You asked him.
“No need. I don’t think it’s that much of a concern.”
You watched the old witcher leave through the heavy front door.
“I should go check on Ciri.” Geralt thought out loud.
“There can’t be too much she’d get into trouble with.” You said. “Nothing up there other than rats the size of a foal.”
“You’d be surprised with Ciri. She can find trouble out of thin air.” He stood up. “Don’t stir up any trouble while I’m gone, Jaskier.”
“You have too little faith in me, Geralt!”
The White Wolf rolled his eyes but said nothing as he walked away. Your eyes followed him until he disappeared through a door that led to the rest of the keep.
“How long have you….” Jaskier trailed off, unsure of the right words to use. “Have you been a witcher long?”
“Are you asking my age, bard?”
“No, no! I’d never ask a lady such a thing.” He chuckled nervously. “I assume that if you have been a witcher for very long, I would have known about you. Or heard about you at some point in time.”
You stood up and moved seats, choosing instead to sit beside the bard. He shifted in his seat, clearly nervous by your sudden close presence.
“It’s been decades since I came here to Kaer Morhen.” You looked upwards to the high ceilings. “Before the sacking.”
”What was it like? Before the- Before the sacking?” Jaskier turned his head to you. He admired your side profile, blue eyes mapping out your facial features. The curve of your nose down to the shape of your lips.
Your attention was shifted to him. It was then that you noticed he was practically staring at your lips. You smiled a little, causing him to look up at your eyes. His cheeks turned pink and he chuckled nervously.
”My-My apologizes.”
”It was nothing grand.” You answered his question as you rose to your feet. “I need more drink. Would you like to come with me?”
”Yes.” Jaskier answered a little too quickly.
He followed behind you like a puppy. You looked over your shoulder to him, the twinkle in your eyes making his heart race. Gods, you were a beauty.
You pushed the door to the kitchen open but before Jaskier could follow you inside, Lambert and Coen were coming out.
“What are you doing, barker?” Coen asked.
“Just— I was just—,”
”Leave him alone, Coen.” You called from just inside the kitchen. Jaskier couldn’t see you because of the wall the two large witchers were forming, blocking you from him.
The boys laughed, their boisterous voices echoing throughout the room. Lambert clapped his hand down on Jaskier’s shoulder as they passed him. Jaskier was just a little confused.
”They are, uh, quite the pair, aren’t they?”
”A pair of jackasses is what they are.” You shook your head.
“Big brothers are like that. I have four.”
”Sounds horrendous.” You poured a second mug of ale and passed it to the bard. “Do you have any other siblings?”
”An older sister and a younger sister.”
”Seven children?” You raised your brows as you leaned against the wooden counter. “Yikes.”
”Yeah.” He chuckled lightly. He leaned against the counter beside you. “Always had a big family.”
”I was one of the last witchers to ever be made, so I suppose I’ve only ever had older brothers.” You took a sip of the ale. ”Couldn’t imagine it any other way. They irritate the piss out of me, but they’re my brothers.”
”They are good men.” Jaskier nodded. “Albeit, annoying. But good men.”
You found yourself gaze at the barker. He was stunning. Warm skin, dark curly hair, even darker eyelashes, and bright icy blue eyes that contrasted his features so nicely. He was a pleasure to gaze at.
The door to the kitchen opened and there stood Geralt.
Jaskier hurried to move, taking a step to the side to put space between himself and you.
“Ah, Geralt!”
The White Wolf offered a low grumble before he looked to you.
”Eskel is home. He doesn’t look good.”
“Is he okay?” You furrowed your eyebrows together. Your drink as discarded on the counter as you hurried to leave the kitchen.
”Vesemir has him in the infirmary.”
You slipped past the witcher and hurried away.
Geralt waited until your footsteps had disappeared down the staircase. Then he turned his attention to Jaskier. He crossed his arms over his chest, appearing even more intimidating than usual.
“Oh, come on, Geralt! Don’t look at me like that!”
”Y/N is—,”
”She is your sister! And you, you are my closest friend!” Jaskier moved to stand in front of Geralt. He placed his hands on Geralt’s biceps and attempted to shake the man but Geralt didn’t budge. “I wouldn’t dream of ever crossing you like that—,”
”Jaskier.” Geralt almost rolled his eyes. ”Get your hands off of me.”
”She is rather friendly though.” Jaskier clasped his hands behind his back as he slipped around the stocky witcher to leave the kitchen. “Very chatty too. Unlike you, you cranky old man.”
Geralt turned around to watch his friend as he started to walk away.
“Jaskier.”
”Yes, Geralt?” Jaskier turned on his toes to face him.
”Just be careful.”
The bard didn’t know what to expect, but that wasn’t it. He furrowed his brows and tilted his head to the side just a bit.
“Uh, o-okay, Geralt.”

(In case you’ve missed CHAPTER 3)
CHAPTER 4
Neither you, nor him wanted to talk about what had occurred. So instead of making this anymore awkward than need be, you both had settled in, by the fire.
As the silence between you stretched relentlessly, you became more and more restless, so you told him your name and then continued, “Well just thought you might want to know. And…thank you for, removing the arrow.”
“You must be hungry.” Unsure why he seemed to ignore your previous statement, you simply nodded. Because quite frankly you were starving.
Geralt got to his feet and returned shortly, after he’d pulled his water-skin and his last piece of bread out of his saddlebags. He handed them to you, then sat back down to your right, closer than before.
Your mouth salivated just smelling the bread, but first you took a big swing of the water. Murmuring, “Thanks.” Then you began devouring the bread as if it were your last meal.
Focusing on your lips, he wondered how they’d feel against his. Probably soft and perfectly sultry. Evidently unable to stop his speculations, he gave in and let his inappropriate thoughts run free.
In fact he’d been so lost in thought, he only caught the end of what you’d said,”…aren’t you?”
Expectedly you raised your brow, waiting for his answer to your question.
He blinked a few times, trying to clear his head. “What?”
Either he wasn’t used to company — at all — or he was a bit slow. In any case you repeated your earlier query, “I said, you are the whited-haired Witcher. The Geralt of Rivia of the songs, aren’t you? ”
Grinding his teeth at the reminder of Jaskier’s stupid, although well-known songs, he managed a nod, not trusting he wouldn’t snarl at you.
As he didn’t know anything about you, apart from your name, he opted to ask you a question of his own, “How come, I had to remove an arrow from your shoulder? Who shot you and why?”
Another pressing question of his was, what you were? Because he knew you weren’t human. But he’d the feeling you weren’t particularly chatty either, so he wanted to go slow, to prevent you from closing up again.
His question caught you off guard. Yet you knew that you owed him an honest answer, after all he’d saved you and had dressed your wound.
Sighing you began, “It’s a bit of a long story…” Then you told him, how your life had been in danger even before it’d really started. Being born half nymph, half mage, put you in a position of unknown power and therefore in peril. Especially because it wasn’t heard off, that a female mage still possessed a womb and could get pregnant.
Your mother had been a mage at court and your father was a forest nymph. Once they’d met, falling in love head over heels.
You were smiling softly when you told him that next part, “You know nearly like an invisible pull, they were made for each other. Sort of destined to meet.” Geralt listened to you attentively, taking in your every word and expression, while you talked.
He noted that the smile you wore, wasn’t a happy one, as it didn’t reach your eyes and your voice was becoming huskier the longer you continued your story.
“Unfortunately it didn’t end very well for them. Once I was born, my mum tried hiding me from court. Because the king and queen had tried conceiving for years, desperately wanting a child of their own. And she knew they weren’t above, taking me away from her. So I lived with my dad and other nymphs in the nearby forest, for about ten years. Learning their ways and customs.”
Swallowing thickly, you averted your gaze, staring into the sizzling flames in front of you, though proceeding with your narrative, ” One day my mum showed up, devastated. They had found out about me and wanted to have me as their own, as their heir. Going as far as threatening to burn down the whole forest and slaughtering everyone in their way. I was terrified, so I readily agreed to come to court, not wanting anyone to die because of me. What I didn’t know, was that as soon as I was in the castle, they proceeded with their murderous plan. Needing to destroy any chance of being reclaimed by my parents.”
Nearly overcome by emotion, you stopped there, breathing unsteadily.
The Witcher was a better listener than you’d given him credit for, not once interrupting you or commenting.
When your tear filled eyes, landed on his gleaming ones, you somehow found the strength to carry on.
“They killed them. Made me Princess, and declared me their daughter. I hated them, loathed their very existence for years. But they were the only people looking after me. And as much as I hate to admit it, they were kind to me and the castle slowly became my home. But when word spread about my inheritance, other kingdoms grew interested. Proposing marriages, left and right. However the king and queen didn’t want that, outright refused. Their mistake, because a nearby kingdom, saw that as opportunity to take me by force. They came during the night. Killing everyone. Burning down, my second home. The only place I’d left.”
Geralt knew that was the tragic end to the story, because he must have found you shortly after you’d escaped. Now he finally knew why you’d healed so quickly. You were part nymph.
“I’m sorry”, was the only thing that he thought would be appropriate to say.
He was certain you’d told him the truth, because he could list at least five kings that wouldn’t have hesitated to do the same, or would have paid him handsomely, just to get you within their grasp. Something similar must have crossed your mind, since all of a sudden your face was contorted, looking terror-stricken.
He wouldn’t turn you in, would he? You knew supposedly, witchers didn’t have emotions and he’d be paid good money to catch you. And from the looks of it, he surely could need some money. But he’d saved you. So Geralt wouldn’t do it, right? Before your anxious thoughts would overhelm you entirely, you took action.
Your musical, though wavering voice broke the silence,” You’re not turning me in, are you?”
Afraid of his answer, you drew in a sharp breath.
Dread filling you, as he abruptly rose up.

The End of What Could Have Been
Pairing - Jaskier x Fem!Reader Summary - Jaskier finally gives in at trying to flirt with his favourite barmaid - something that only makes her fall harder for him. Warnings - alcohol, mention of a brothel? Words - 2.1K
A/n - Hi, I’m back! I know I’ve been gone for a little while; writers block has been killing me. But I’m back at it again, hopefully back at posting regularly again.
Masterlist
It had become the cycle of the night. As the stragglers of the Inn began to make their way back to their own beds - or hay stacks for some of them - he would appear. Far too wide-eyed for this time in the night, lute strapped over his shoulder and a glistening smile most female bar keeps had never been able to resist. Well, most expect for yourself.
Jaskier was sweet, that was true, but he was equally greedy. And the whole town knew of it. The stories of his lewd behaviour with his several different partners were laced throughout his lyrics, right alongside the fantastical story of the Witcher and the many creatures the two fought off together. Though, with that very bard in front of you now, you struggled to believe he had the same strength of a Witcher.
"Same as always, Y/n." His elbows leaned against the wooden bar as he slid a couple of coins across for you. Always a couple extra for your own pocket.
You simply nodded your head in an act to show your acknowledgement of him before turning to gather a pint of beer for the bard. "Not in the mood for conversation tonight?" He questioned while you had your back turned.
You only said anything when the cup that was brimming with frothy ale was in your hand. "Not with you. Not tonight." Ever so bluntly, that snap in your tone slipped from your tongue as you placed the drink down in front of him with a thud.
He flashed his puppy eyes; he had gotten good at doing that. "And whys that?"
Your expression never faulted. You didn't dare. You had told yourself for almost a month while Jaskier had been playing at this pub that you wouldn't be one of the many to fall prey to his sweet smile and his even sweeter words. "Because the only conversation you want to have is one where it ends with you getting into my pants." You said it so sternly. So casual. Without a lick of embarrassment as if it were a passing comment, lacking any source of meaning.
But Jaskier's response had proved different. He stiffened and struggled to swallow the ale that lingered on his tongue. "Can't blame a man for trying." His response came a second too late - attempting to get over the initial shock that had stunned him too much to speak straight away.
"I can when, despite getting your answer, you're still trying." You didn't break. With every word, you lean slightly closer, till there were only inches between you.
"Well," He sighed lightly and leaned back, "I still haven't heard you tell me to stop."
You couldn't help but laugh, "I know you're a bard, but you're not stupid, surely."
"You didn't have to go there." He quipped. "I personally don't think you want...this to stop." His words were as cautious as one in a sword fight. One wrong move and he was frightened you were about to stab him in the back.
For the first time, you became hesitant. You were uncertain. Of course, you could admit Jaskier did have that sweet smile and the charm to accompany such. He also was easy on the eyes, had a slick manner and was, as much as you hated to admit it, the type of bachelor you could see yourself spending the night with - or several. But he was infamous for such behaviour. He travelled from town to town, bed to bed, and you were not about to the 90th woman on his list. That of such, was what you refused.
So you shifted, and slipped back into your stern facade as if nothing had ever happened, like there had never been a blink of uncertainty. "This," You pointed between the two of you, "Never even started." Words so sharp they cut through Jaskier's heart like a knife to butter. While the man was fine to break others' hearts, his was too just as fragile and sensitive. And to hear such from a woman he had grown to admire over the weeks shook his core. With the words written out in front of him, he knew he could no longer ignore them.
And so you straightened your back and stared at the boy you were forced to resist. "You finish your ale, I'll close up." You announced, without any input from him. Normally, he would last at least another three drinks. But tonight, neither of you wanted the company of the other. The air between you had become tense and rigid. Air of which you were not in the mood to breathe.
So you took it upon yourself to make that decision. You started stacking the chairs around the pub, cleaning the sticky tables and making sure everything was as it should be. The only thing left was Jaskier. He took his final sip. He placed the cup back on the bar and let out a deep breath; he knew this was the end. This was the point in which you had drawn the line, you had told him no once and for all. And you had given him no choice but to listen.
There as he stood, he turned to you. At first, he looked you up and down, taking in the last of what remained—this night marked the end of what could have been. He locked eyes with you. Neither of you moved. Neither of you said a word. After that moment of acceptance passed, he provided a nod. With that, he left the Inn without a trace. That night, in your lonely bed, you struggled to sleep, plagued by the ever-yawning question of if you just made a mistake.
By the next morning, you came to face the consequences of your own actions. You strolled in for your shift as you always did to find the Inn relatively empty. In fact, more empty than it ever had been in the past month. The only ones to occupy the Inn were the same stragglers which never seemed to leave. It didn't take you long to figure out why; the lack of strumming music in the Inn was likely the culprit. And, after that conclusion, you came to assume that it was partly the fault of yourself and a certain encounter from the night before.
"No bard today?" You queried your boss, the Innkeeper, as he stood cleaning the wooden bar.
"No bard anymore." He answered. A part of your brain was tugged with curiosity, the other knew that you shouldn't want to know. You cut the ties. You were at fault. You should leave things as they were. "Get used to how things used to be. Just the regulars again." That was one, if the only, good thing about Jaskier: the customers he brought. You could never deny his lyrical beauty and the lull of his lute. So brilliant, in fact, it almost brought you a pay rise.
Your head dropped in thought. No matter how much you wanted to accept this, a part of you wondered if this decision came from a reaction of the night prior. "Where is he staying?" You spat the words out before you could stop yourself. "The bard?" You added, suddenly aware of how strange that question may sound to your boss.
To be expected, the man raised a brow, "I'm not sure," He shrugged his shoulders lightly. "That cheap Inn up the road probably. Or a bench." With that, the grumpy old Inn keeper turned his back to you, going back to sort out the several types of ales.
For a moment, you stared. But the thought nagged you too much; Why not? He was leaving, what else was there to lose? He was sweet, admirable and you couldn't help yourself. You had only wished you had realised such fact the night before. Without thinking twice, you left. You took off without another word and headed to that cheap Inn your boss had pointed to.
By the time you arrived, you came to realise it was perfect timing. Jaskier was getting ready to depart. He had a couple of bags hung over his shoulder as he slung them over a horse. His expression was, until you came into his sights, set into a stern hold. And then, a glint of wonder reached his face, and the very corners of his lips twisted upright just slightly. He wouldn't admit it yet, but he was happy to see you had come back to him.
"And the barmaid returns." He gleamed, trying to not let that smile on his face grow any more than it already had done.
You tilted his head at him, "You didn't tell me you were leaving last night." You stated, choosing it best to ignore his greeting.
"You think that would have changed how things went?" There. You caught it right as it happened; that flirtatious speck in his pupils that never seemed to leave him - sometimes, no matter who he was talking to. When he received only a stern expression in return, he sighed and changed his tone as if he had never made that comment. "I didn't know I would be leaving until after I left." He answered, honestly.
A moment of silence passed as you settled in the realisation. You only needed confirmation: "Was it what I said?"
Another grin graced his face. But not flirtatious or cheeky, rather bittersweet. "I know you're just a bard maid, but you're not stupid." He reiterated your own words from last night.
For that, you swallowed the lump which had suddenly grown in your throat. Then, with a breath, you replied, "You don't have to leave, the money's good here, no?" You knew your boss must have been paying him a decent paycheck.
He shifted on his feet, "I don't like staying in the same place for too long." The boy admitted.
"Then why did last night change your mind?"
He took a moment and fought himself so as not to repeat what he had said prior. "Most of the time, I can find anyone to entertain myself with, no matter where I am. But," He paused, thought on his words as if they were of utter importance, "But just the way when I walked into your Inn-"
You cut him off, "You mean when I told you to piss off because we didn't like silly lute music being played?" Saying that now was laughable.
And Jaskier had let out a chuckle, "Yes, then. I thought you were a shell I wanted to break and I found myself not bothered with anyone else. Not even with the mistresses at the Brothal. I wanted to get to know you and, I don't know, I looked forward to every night when I'd finish my set and it would be just the two of us in the bar." He explained, him too going off the idea of what else was there to lose now? "You didn't want me and it made it all the more enticing. To fight with the idea of hatred boarding on love was something intoxicating and it only made me want you more."
And, honestly, you were at a loss for words. It wasn't often many people spoke to you in such a poetic way, with such romance trickled into their words as it rolled right off the tongue like smooth butter. Most of the time, you were only met with drunk stragglers, boarding their words on sexual harassment. So this was only a breast of fresh air and you were indulging in it like it was some sort of drug.
When you looked back to Jaskier, you were at a loss for words. You weren't quite the lyricist he was. "I think-" You took a breath as if it were giving you the courage needed in that very moment. "I think I did want you. Oh, I know I did. But a bard who, as you said is always on the move, wasn't something I could get involved in." Like that, a weight slipped from your shoulders like melting ice.
Jaskier took a step forward, cautious in his action. When you showed no sign of disregard, he settled. "You've no idea what I would change just so you would get involved with me." There, his flirtatious smile return. And, this time, you couldn't resist it.
He started leaning in and rather than stopping it, so did you until your lips met in a soft embrace. It was long overdue and you could see how addicted you could get to that feeling if you weren't too careful. But a part of you had started to put trust into Jaskier - you just preyed the bard would never break it. As now, this was the start of something. Something neither of you wanted to ever end.

Lost and Found
Geralt x female reader, angst with fluff ending.
Prompt = Geralt and the reader got separated during a fight. Geralt having doubts about their relationship.
Geralt of Rivia, the stoic and battle-hardened Witcher, roamed the lands, his heart forever guarded. Amidst his lonely travels, he found solace in the presence of a fierce and compassionate female reader, who had captured his heart. Their connection was a sanctuary in the chaotic world they inhabited.
One fateful night, as Geralt faced a monstrous adversary, a violent clash ensued. In the midst of the chaos, he was separated from the reader, vanishing into the shadows of uncertainty. Fear gripped her heart as she searched tirelessly, her voice echoing into the silent abyss.
Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. The reader's hope began to waver, but she refused to accept the idea that Geralt was lost forever. She combed through taverns, inquired with fellow Witchers, and followed every lead, driven by a love that knew no bounds.
Finally, on a cool autumn evening, fate intervened. The reader stumbled upon Geralt in a secluded village, nursing his wounds. Relief and joy flooded her, mingled with the lingering fear that had haunted her dreams. Without hesitation, she rushed to his side, enveloping him in a desperate embrace.
"Geralt," she whispered, her voice quivering with emotions held in check for far too long. "I thought I had lost you."
Geralt's eyes softened, a mixture of gratitude and longing filling them. "I'm here," he murmured, his voice tinged with weariness. "I'm sorry for making you worry."
As their reunion unfolded, however, an unforeseen shadow of misunderstanding cast its pall over their moment of solace. Jaskier, with whom the reader had developed a deep friendship during Geralt's absence, stood nearby, their expression one of concern and uncertainty.
Unable to contain the weight of her emotions, the reader's voice faltered as she tried to explain the true nature of her relationship with the other character. But before she could find the right words, Geralt's gaze hardened, his face betraying a mix of pain and confusion.
"I see," he said, his voice low and guarded. "I thought… I thought we had something."
The reader's heart shattered at his words, realizing the depth of Geralt's misunderstanding. The pain etched upon his face cut her to the core, as if a silver blade had pierced her own soul.
"No, Geralt," she pleaded, her voice trembling. "You're the one I love, the one I've been searching for. Please, believe me."
In that moment, the reader saw a flicker of vulnerability in Geralt's eyes, the walls around his heart crumbling under the weight of their shared pain. Slowly, he reached out, his hand finding hers, his touch conveying a yearning for trust and understanding.
"I want to believe you," he confessed, his voice laced with both fear and hope. "But my heart has been wounded before."
With gentle determination, the reader brushed away the remnants of tears from her cheeks and met Geralt's gaze. She poured her love and devotion into her words, baring her soul for him to see.
"I choose you, Geralt," she said, her voice unwavering. "There is no one else I want by my side. Please, let me prove it to you."
Tears welled in Geralt's eyes as he took a leap of faith, willing to let go of his doubts and embrace the possibility of a love that had weathered storms and stood the test of time. The reader's heart swelled with a mixture of relief and love as Geralt's arms encircled her, pulling her closer.
In that moment of profound understanding, their souls intertwined once again, their love resolute and unyielding. As they held each other tightly, the shadows of misunderstanding faded away, replaced by a future where their hearts would forever find solace in each other's embrace.

Inkpot Gods
Well its finally here my first chapter of my The Witcher fic! It is a Female reader insert fic. You are a princess of a kingdom being plagued by a creature. Your father has hired a semi willing Geralt to not only get rid of the creature but to protect you. AO3 link is here moodboard made by the lovely @sweetpeapod
Jaskier groaned, "Why are we going to Eirian again? I didn't think they had any monsters there."
"Hmmm." Was Geralt's only response to the bards rambling.
"Seriously Geralt, some background would be nice. I want to know what we are getting ourselves into. You just barged into the inn I was playing at, and demanded I join you in this quest. What is going on?"
Geralt glared at Jaskier, "I have received a letter from the king. His daughter is supposedly in danger. I'm not sure what kind of danger, but he has offered to pay handsomely for my services."
"How heroic! Geralt saving a princess! I can't wait to tell this story!"
Geralt rolled his eyes at the bard before resuming his silent thoughts. He had never gotten a request like this. He wasn't a savior, he was a monster killer. Was it really wise to have Jaskier with him? He was known for wooing women. But, the King and Queen had asked for him specifically to be with Geralt.
"Seriously boys you are going to Eirian as well?" An all too familiar female voice inquired.
"Yen? What are you doing here?"
"Yes seriously, witch, what are you doing here?" Jaskier echoed Geralt's question.
"The Queen of Eirian has asked me to look after her daughter. She believes that the princess may have hints of chaos magic."
"So? Deal with her chaos magic after we get rid of whatever the king wants Geralt to protect her from." Jaskier huffed.
"Sorry bard you are stuck with me. Though it leads me to wonder why you are here?"
"Enough, both of you. Like it or not the king and queen of Eirian want us all. We will find out why when we get there." Geralt groaned longing for silence.
Jaskier and Yennefer both gave each other a glare but opted to follow in silence.
It took them almost seven days to reach Eirian from where they had been. During that time, Geralt made sure to find them a safe place to regroup should they become separated. As they got neared the kingdom, the glittering castle could be seen from miles away. Geralt watched and shook his head as Jaskier was almost jumping with joy ready for a warm meal and a cozy bed to lay on.
*************
"My lord and my lady, the witcher, the mage, and the bard have been seen approaching the city." A castle guard said kneeling in front of the king and queen.
"Thank you." The Queen said dismissing the guard before turning to a servant, "make sure everything is ready. We are to have a grand feast tonight."
"A grand feast? What for?" You inquire, appearing next to your mother.
"We will have Geralt of Rivia here along with some friends of his." Your mother replied.
You groan, you know you're stronger than what your parents believe you to be. Your father had the general train you in sword fighting from the time you were a small child. Whatever this creature was that was out to get you, was nothing you couldn't handle.
"Mom really?"
"Stop your groaning, and go get dressed y/n. They will be here by dinner."
"Yes mother." You say as you curtsy before turning away and rolling your eyes.
You begin to wonder if it's not just for your safety, but if your parents were trying to set you up for a marriage again. They had always been intrigued by that prophecy.
***********
As nightfall hit, Geralt, Jaskier, and Yennefer made their way into the palace.
"Hello, our esteemed guests, welcome to Eirian." The king greeted them at the castle door before he gestured them into the banquet hall.
"It smells so good." Jaskier said, almost visibly drooling.
Neither Geralt nor Yennefer said anything as they made their way inside. The room was filled to the brim with people in dresses and nice clothes laughing and dancing. Everyone stopped and bowed to the king as he guided the group towards the head table. Whispers could be heard among the crowd as everyone wondered why a witcher was there, and who these other two people were.
"My love, and my daughter, this is Geralt of Rivia, he is here to help."
"Pleasure to meet you. May I inquire as to who is with you." You ask, looking both men up and down.
"Princess, this is Jaskier, he is one of my most trusted friends and allies. Next to me is Yennefer. She told me she had a summons to come here." Geralt grunted.
"Yes she did. I asked her to come here. Geralt and Yennefer, if the king and I may speak to you in private about why you are here. Darling, make sure Jaskier gets some food and whatever else he requires." The Queen placed a gentle hand on her husband's back and motioned to Geralt and Yennefer to follow.
Your mother gave you a stern glare after she heard your sigh of protest. Rolling your eyes, you stood up and made your way down to Jaskier. You could practically see the hunger in the man's bright blue eyes.
"Come sit with me…Jaskier was it? We have plenty of food."
"Oh thank you! Geralt seems to forget that eating is a necessary thing." Jaskier replied, following the beautiful princess to the table.
He was stunned by her beauty, and the way her eyes shone in the light. He was taken aback by the way that beautiful red dress fell against her body.
You both sat down where you watched the man eat while waiting patiently for your parents. As if he knew you were watching, he looks up and smiles at you with an almost devilish grin.
"So, why exactly is Geralt wanted here? It seems like a lovely kingdom to me." He inquires, leaning in close to you.
"I'm not really supposed to talk about it. But essentially there is supposedly a creature that has been plaguing the land. Mom and dad believe it may be after me now. That's all I'll say. What exactly do you do?" You inquire, noticing the lute sitting by his feet.
"Oh, I'm just a bard. Not really sure why Geralt brought me along. He doesn't even like my music." Jaskier scoffed.
"Ah a bard. Wait...I've heard of you. Aren't you the bard that goes from town to town wooing women and leaving them for that brooding witcher?"
"Hey! I don't go from town to town wooing and using women! Or abandoning them for Geralt!" Jaskier replied, looking hurt.
You give him a skeptical look. Before you could answer, one of the princes approached the table and asked you for a dance.
Jaskier watched you as you accepted, and made your way to the dance floor. He groaned and looked at the plate of food in front of him, no longer really hungry. If the King and Queen wouldn't tell him what was going on, why was he wanted here?
She is so beautiful…how can I show her that I am not as bad as she has heard? But even if I could, why would she want just a bard when she could have a prince? Jaskier thought to himself as he watched the princess dance and laugh.
***********
"So what is this creature you have hired me to take care of?" Geralt asked.
"Well we believe we are being plagued by a shapeshifter. The village has been complaining about seeing long dead relatives. Or strange creatures that are beyond belief. Some say they have even seen themselves." The King responded.
"Hmmmm"
"A shapeshifter really? That could be hard for us to track. What makes you think it's after your daughter?" Yennefer replied.
"We think she may have some powers that she's not completely aware of. That is why I wanted you here, Yennefer, as you are a very powerful sorceress. I fear the shapeshifter may want her powers." The Queen responded.
"What forms has it been known to take? What times of the day has it been seen?" Geralt chimed in.
"You would need to go back into the party and mingle with the guests, or let them come to you. They haven't really told us. All we know is that there is something plaguing our village. Please, you must help us." The Queen begged.
"I'm going to give you the payment now and more. Geralt of Rivia all I ask is if you cannot defeat this monster, that you will keep my daughter safe. I've heard tales of a possible ambush or attack as well. Please save her." The king pleaded, handing Geralt the money.
The Queen handed Yennefer the payment she promised her, "Yes you as well my dear. Keep her safe and if she has powers, do not let anyone take advantage of them."
"I will do my best. Well Geralt, shall we head back to the party?" Yennefer asked before turning and making her way out into the group of dancing people.
Geralt sighed and followed her. His eyes immediately began looking for Jaskier since the bard was last seen with the princess. After a moment he saw him sitting alone with a sad look on his face. He followed Jaskier's gaze, and found them locked on the princess who was dancing around the room with a tall man. The hair stood up on Geralt's neck…he knew that man...that man should be dead. He made his way over to Jaskier.
"What happened?" Geralt asked.
"She doesn't even know me and has bad thoughts about me! Basically said I leave women for you! As if those relationships just don't work on their own!" Jaskier huffed.
Geralt gave Jaskier a skeptical look and tried not to laugh.
"Has she been dancing with the same man this whole time?"
"I don't use women, I just haven't found the right one! Oh, uh, I'm not sure. I don't think that was the man she started off with."
"Hmmmm" Geralt's eyes landed back on the princess only to find that she had stopped dancing, and was approaching him.
"Geralt of Rivia pleasure to meet you properly. I'm y/n." You say with a mischievous grin.
"Was that man the same one you've been dancing with this whole time?"
"Oh, um, I believe so. Why?"
"You believe so, or you know so?"
"It was a dance! I may have ended up with someone else! I can't really say. Honestly no, that probably was a different man!" You huffed before turning away from the witcher and going over to see your parents.
"What's happening Geralt? Why are you so worried about who she was dancing with?" Jaskier inquired suddenly appearing next to Geralt.
"Stay close to her, Jaskier. Try not to lose sight of her. If you do, come and get me immediately."
"But Geralt…won't it be weird if I just hover over…" Jaskier stuttered.
"You are an entertainer are you not? Play some music. Talk about your songs. I don't care, just keep an eye on her!"
Jaskier nodded and sulked away towards the king and queen. Geralt shook his head uncertain if it was a good idea having Jaskier keeping an eye on the princess, but he didn't have much choice. He made his way into the crowd looking again for that face. It had to have been the face of the man that he had killed trying to defend Ciri. Geralt knew he couldn't get that face out of his mind, ever, but perhaps he had imagined it this time.
“Any luck yet?” Yennefer inquired, appearing in front of him suddenly.
“No…though I swear I saw that Nilfgaardian soldier that tried to kill Ciri a few years back.”
"Wait, you mean the one you killed? How is that possible?".
Geralt gave Yennefer a stern look before continuing to move through the crowd keeping a watchful eye out.
"Do you think she's really safe with Jaskier? Shouldn't we tell him so he can be on guard?" Yennefer stated, finally seeing Jaskier with the royal family.
"Yen…I trust him. He is honestly probably safer with her than she is with him. I've heard she is a formidable fighter."
Yennefer sighed, but before she could explain, a loud boom could be heard outside. They both looked at each other and then back towards Jaskier and the royal family.
The king looked at Geralt with a worried look on his face. Geralt made his way to the nearest window and looked out. He saw all the soldiers running towards the gate, meaning someone was trying to break in.
"The castle is under siege! Everyone should get out!" Yennefer shouted, as she appeared next to Geralt and saw what was happening outside
Immediately, people began to scream, and start to panic. Geralt gave Yennefer a cold glare before making his way over to where the royal family still stood.
"We need to go now. You have a small amount of time. If you'd like to pack a few belongings you better hurry."
The Queen put a gentle hand on the princess's back, and urged her to go pack her stuff. Geralt nodded at Jaskier signaling he wanted him to follow and make sure nothing happened to her.
*********
The king went off to fight with his men, and make sure the castle was secure. Geralt wasn't entirely sure where the queen had gone, but he knew his main charge was the princess. He had Jaskier and the princess meet him in the servants quarters to avoid detection.
"Alright, no matter what happens be suspicious of everyone. Your parents have told me they believe the main enemy is a shapeshifter. We aren't sure but it seems to be true." Geralt told them.
You roll your eyes, not really convinced there was truly any danger outside of the army trying to bust through the gate. But you follow Geralt out to the hallway. You gasp as you pass a window and see the battle that was unfolding below. Jaskier gently pulls on your black cape draped across your shoulders, encouraging you to keep following Geralt.
"I can help fight. Please let me go help them." You whisper to Jaskier.
He looks at you with the biggest blue eyes you've ever seen, even in this dark room. You know his answer before he can even say it. Nodding solemnly you go to follow Geralt but he had disappeared from your sight. You both look at each other, when you hear a grunt of pain that you knew was Geralts.
Quickly, you run towards the scuffle, curious. Just as you get closer, you hear a malicious laugh, and see Geralt's body flying towards you. You flatten yourself against the wall trying to avoid being hit.
Geralt stands up as his eyes land on you, he grabs you by the arm dragging you down the hall, "there is a dangerous creature up ahead. I need to fight it off. You both will need to find a way out on your own."
Without warning Geralt practically throws you into Jaskier's arms. You brace yourself against the bard's chest, thankful he was strong enough to catch you.
"I can help you fight this creature, let me do it!" You turn away from Jaskier and yell at Geralt, Jaskier held on to your waist, preventing you from running towards Geralt.
"No! You need to get out of here. Whatever it is, it's after you. Now go! Jaskier, you know where to take her!" Geralt shouted running back down the hall.
"Come on, he's right. Where do we go to get out of here?" Jaskier asked, gently pulling you by your waist back in the opposite direction.
You tried to struggle free of his grip, but he was too strong. Realizing it was futile you gave in, but you knew you had to get yourself some form of weapon to defend yourself so you led him to the armory.
"Wait…this isn't an exit. What are we doing here?" Jaskier inquired, as he stopped in the doorway.
"Well we need weapons, there's an army outside, and apparently creatures running around this castle!"
You wander for a moment, knowing which weapons you wanted.
"I'm just a bard…"
Using all your strength you jump up to the two swords hanging on the wall, and force them down. They clatter to the floor. You grab them and hand one to Jaskier.
"Do you expect to save me with the lute on your back? Trust me, just wave it around, and make it look like you know what you are doing. If we survive, I can give you a proper lesson if you'd like."
Jaskier tried not to blush as you grabbed his hand, and showed him the way out to the courtyard.
"This has been way too easy. I feel we should have run into someone by now." Jaskier said, looking nervously around the courtyard.
"Everyone must be by the gate fighting. We need to find horses or something. It's not practical to keep running." You say immediately heading towards the stables.
Without warning, a powerful blow knocked you off your feet. Gasping for breath you turn and see a soldier coming towards you, his sword drawn and shield in front of him.
"Ah princess (y/f/n), there you are." The soldier sneered, he was clearly wearing the Nilfgaard colors.
Jaskier firmly planted himself between you and the soldier. Knowing he wasn't quite able to fight off the soldier, you quickly stood up, ignoring the pain that coursed through your body, and moved to stand next to him.
"What do you want with me?" You inquire.
"Oh, I'm sure you know why we are here. You need to marry the prince, and ensure our kingdom's safety with your…powers."
"No!" the king shouted, coming from nowhere.
"Father!" You shout watching your father knock the soldier across the head, and watch in horror as the soldier falls to the ground.
"He's only unconscious. You need to leave now. Both of you! Get out of here!" Your father said.
You start sobbing, and go to argue with your father. Before you can, he shakes his head and drags the unconscious soldier out of sight. Jaskier puts a comforting hand on your shoulder as he gently pulls you towards the stable. Once in the stable, luck was on your side as you both saw the horse.
"Only one…what shall we do." Jaskier wonders aloud.
"Guess we will have to share. Get on." You say trying to mount the horse when a sudden pain in your side from where the soldier hit you, caused you to fall to the ground in pain.
"Y/n!" Jaskier shouts running to your side.
You glance down and see some blood on your light pink dress.
"The soldier must have hit me harder than I thought." You say grasping your side.
You could hear shouts from near the stable. Jaskier looks at you in fear before he picks you up off the floor. You both work together to get you situated on the saddle, Jaskier following to sit behind you.
He wrapped one of his arms around you holding you close to him to make sure you stayed on the saddle. Ignoring the surge of feelings, and pain you felt and also the shock of how strong Jaskier was, you grab the reins and navigate the horse out into the woods as fast as you can.
"Where is this meeting place Geralt wants you to take me?" You inquire when you feel far enough out of harm's way.
"Give me the reins. It's not far." Jaskier leans into, you gently taking the reins from you.
You lean against Jaskiers chest and try to process all that has happened. Your whole body ached from the soldier hitting you, probably with his shield, and you worried about why you were bleeding. But that was almost irrelevant as the pain of knowing your family was probably dead, swept through you.
What did that Nilfgaardian soldier want? What did the creature Geralt had been fighting, want with you? You knew you had powers, but you didn't think they were anything worth all of this madness.
Jaskier must have known all your emotions were hitting you, because he used the arm he had wrapped around to give you a slight squeeze.
"It'll be okay we are nearly there. Then I will make sure that soldier didn't injure you too badly. You've been through a lot, please talk to me if you need to." Jaskier whispered in your ear.
You gently put your hand on the arm that is holding you. As much as you want to spill your heart and emotions out to him, right now wasn't the time to do it.
"You're a bard, right? Sing me a song if you don't mind. I just want a distraction. Or tell me a story if you'd rather not sing. Please."
Jaskier smiled, and told you a story about how he met Geralt and the adventure they went on.
You were uncertain how true it was, but just hearing his voice was calming you. It lead you to wonder if the prophecy your mother had told you about was possibly true, and if Jaskier was the man in it. All of a sudden, a sharp pain seized your body and you fell unconscious against Jaskier.

Heyy hii I'm not sure if you're still taking requests, but I'll try my luck. Can you write something about Cahir and the female Witcher reader? Thanks in advance if you write.
If I am being brutally honest, I had a lot of fun writing this. Season three renewed my love for Cahir, so I hope you like this:)))
A Bond
Cahir x female!witcher!reader Request
Word count:0.9k
Warnings:it's all fluffy. I probably got carried away and let my inner Jaskier come out
Summary:You and Cahir had been friends for a long time and as he needs your help, you don 't hesitate to be there for him…
Masterlist
You and Cahir had known each other for a long time. You had met him on your travels through the country, as he was attacked by the beast, you were hunting. He was rude at first, but still thanked you.
The rest was history.
You started running into him over and over again. To a point where it was inevitable that a friendship would form. With you, Cahir could be himself. He was just a normal Person. No Nilfgaard, no white flame, no war. Nothing of that mattered to you. You were neutral. All you were interested in was his person. And he knew that your interest was genuine. And he let it happen. He let the friendship form and prosper. An unfeigned friendship that connected you.
And when he was cast out, thrown away by his master, like an old doll he didn't want to play with anymore, Cahir came to you. He found comfort in you. He had been through so much, but for once in his life, he felt safe. At peace. He might even say “Home”.
Of course, he would never tell you that, but it surely was on his mind, everytime, he looked at you. Everytime you returned to his small hut, after finishing a Witcher contract. Bruised and battered, but back with him. And only him. Only Cahir got to see you like this. He took pride in knowing that he was the only person in this world, you would trust this far, besides your brothers maybe.
But you told him that you only saw them once a year, in the winter. You told him stories of Kaer Morhen and how you had grown up there, under Vesemir´s care.
You told him that it was hard for you at first, being the only female Witcher. But it had gotten better, the older you got. The more you learned and saw in this world. You realized that no one really cared, as long as they could use you for their dirty work.
“How was it?”, Cahir asked, forcing himself to return to the present moment. He had let his thoughts wander, after a pleasant silence rose between you, as he carefully cleaned your wounds.
“It was alright.”, you finally said,”It was a small kikimora. Still young and inexperienced.”
“In fighting?”,Cahir asked, not really knowing a lot about the beasts that your job involved. You had told him some things, but a kikimora was new to him.
You only smiled at him, before finally answering his question:”No, not in fighting. In killing."
He was quiet for a second, not knowing what to say, upon that statement. But luckily, you just continued recounting what had happened.
“The Monster´s head was worth a lot of coin though. I won't have to leave for at least a month. The money will be enough.”
Cahir smiled at you, glad that he got to spend more time with you.He slowly got up from his place in front of you and sat down beside you on the bed:”Thank you. You don't have to do this. Supporting me in my exile, I mean. But you still do it anyway. And for that I am thanking you.”
“Oh Cahir.”, you smiled, your hand rising to softly caress his face. He closed his eyes, letting himself fall into your gentle touch.
“I would proudly ride into death for you, without hesitation.”, you mumbled, as he opened his eyes. You heard how his heart picked up a beat. How his breath stocked for a second, his eyes lingering on your lips, instead of your yellow orbs, which were intently watching him, awaiting his next move.
You had often thought about your relationship with him. Often let your mind wander to what ifs.
What if you were more than just close friends? What if you knew that you wanted to spend the rest of your lives together. Never leaving each other. What if…
“I love you.”
At first you barely heard him. His words were so quiet. His voice shaking and his eyes darting everywhere else, but your face. He wasn't usually this hesitant. He was an outgoing and stern person. Always sure of himself and his capabilities. He used to be a Nilfgaardian officer after all.
“Cahir.”, you mumbled, after a few seconds of burning silence. He finally looked at you. His expression now a bit more confident. His heartbeat had slowed and he finally dared to look you in the eye.
“I love you, Cahir Mawr Dyffryn aep Ceallach. With all my heart.”, you smiled, your eyes almost glowing with excitement.
Cahir didn't need to hear anything more, before he finally leaned in. Your eyes closed and his lips collided with yours. He was gentle and sweet. Passion laid in his actions. And you knew that he meant every little bit, he had told you.
“I love you.”, he said once again, before slowly pushing you back against the bed. You followed along with his movements, until he was hovering above you.
“I love you.”, you also repeated. You were bare in front of him. Not in a physical way, but emotionally. No one had ever known you as Cahir did. Not even your brothers. He knew your heart and soul. Something that you had shown no one before.
And as he slowly lathered kisses over your body, your moans and whines mixing with his groans. As you fully let him in, you knew that he was the only one you would ever love this way. He became part of you and you part of him.
An unfeigned bond, that was never to be broken again.

Something in the Orange (part 2)
Pairing: Lambert x female!sorceress!reader
Word count: 3 601
Summary: When Geralt of Rivia disappears, Jaskier has no choice but to ask his best friend for help. Although struggling with her own issues, Y/N agrees and they join Vesemir and the others in Kaer Morhen. The search might be difficult but not as difficult as the certain redheaded witcher who keeps challenging her.
A/n: I’m sorry for a long wait!
Part 1 is here.
Y/N sighs. Of course it had to be him.
“Where is he?” she asks Vesemir, not really trying to hide her reluctance.
“Probably in his room. I’ll take you there.” he offered. Y/N nods and follows Vesemir out of the library. They walked through the castle in silence while Y/N was trying to think of what to say to Lambert once she was there.
When they finally arrived, Vesemir knocked on old doors.
“What?” they heard him grumbling from the other side and then the doors opened. He slightly raised his eyebrows when he noticed Y/N.
“We need your help.” Vesemir said.
“’Course you do.” he said, suddenly sounding tired.
“Y/N is an oneiromancer.” Vesemir started but Lambert immediately realized where this conversation is going.
“No. I’m not letting her bewitch me!” he shook his head.
“I’m not going to ‘bewitch’ you.” Y/N couldn’t help but roll her eyes. She crosses arms on chests while stepping closer to him. Lambert instantly steps backwards.
“We are just going to have a quick nice chat about your last encounter with Geralt.”
“And that’s supposed to help us get him back? How?” he frowns, crossing his arms as well.
“So many questions.” Y/N sighs and passes by him, entering his room without his approval. Lambert was about to protest but Y/N was getting inpatient.
“I’m going to need a chair, right here” she points next to Lambert’s bed. “You’re going to lay down and drink this.” Y/N opens her leather bag and pulls out a small bottle of sleep potion.
“You can’t be serious. I’m not drinking that.” Lambert complains.
“Since you two have things figured out, I’m sure you don’t need me. I’ll see you both in the morning.” Vesemir quickly adds and before anyone could say anything, he leaves down the hall. Y/N looks at Lambert again, and throws a small bottle at him. He caches it but doesn’t even look at the bottle.
“I said I’m not drinking that. Are you deaf?”
“Listen, witcher.” Y/N is annoyed at this point but she keeps her voice steady and calm. “I’m trying to help you find YOUR friend. Are you really going to make this harder than it already is?” she crosses arms.
“It’s harder because you got involved, not because of me!” he raises his voice slightly. Y/N steps closer, getting into his personal space.
“If this doesn’t work, I’m out. Okay? You’re on your own.” Y/N tried to sound patient, but Lambert could still sense the annoyance in her voice. All of a sudden, he grins.
“Deal. If it doesn’t work right away, you and that ridiculous trumpeter are out. By the first rays of the sunlight.”
Y/N’s jaw slightly clenches. “Deal.” she agrees, not wanting to break the eye contact first. Lambert looks at her for couple of seconds longer and then suddenly turns around, grabs the chair next to him and effortlessly moves it next to his bed.
He opens the bottle that Y/N gave him and looks at its content. Dark green liquid didn’t exactly smell like honey and flowers but Y/N knew how powerful the potion was.
“Go on. Drink all of it.” Y/N says as she sat down. Lambert sits on the edge of his bed. He hesitates for a few moments before finally drinking the potion.
“Lovely.” he manages to speak before coughing a couple of times. Y/N grabs an empty bottle from his hand and leans back into her chair.
“Okay, now, lay down. I’ll explain how this works.”
Lambert doesn’t say anything but lays down and crosses arms on his chests.
“Relax. Firstly, we need to discuss the details of your bond with Geralt.”
“We are friends, brothers. There’s nothing to discuss there.” Lambert says shrugging his shoulders but Y/N could swear she heard a bit of discomfort in his voice. He wasn’t comfortable with sharing his feelings with her.
“Lambert, my ability works only if my clients are honest with me. Do not lie. Don’t keep the details from me. I need to know how strong is your bond. Try to flesh out feelings, emotions…Truth is essential in this.”
Y/N looks at him. At least he looks like he’s listening to her.
“So, what are you going to do once you see that dream of yours?”
“I won’t see anything. You will.”
“I don’t understand-”
“You will. Now, please, I need the strongest, most complete memory you have of Geralt.”
Lambert hesitates. This wasn’t what he expected when he agreed to do this. After a couple of seconds, he decides to share the memory of their first shared hunt - the one where they killed Chort, who came out of the dark forest while they were still tracking him. The Chort was a beast; large male who was protecting his territory and clearly didn’t want them near, but Geralt and Lambert already got paid by the nearby villagers to get rid of the creature.
“Did he save your life?” Y/N asks. Lambert nods, looking at the dark ceiling. He could still remember the moment he thought he was dying. His stomach twisted just like it did that day.
“What else should I know?”
It took a while for Y/N to gather information mostly because Lambert didn’t know how to express his feelings but Y/N didn’t rush him.
He’s a witcher after all, she’d remind herself.
By what she heard, they had a complicated relationship and often disagreed but they did respect each other and had a strong bond.
“Alright now, relax, close your eyes. And try to fall asleep. Empty your mind.” she said, and with one quick flick of hand she increased the flames in the small fireplace. The room got warmer almost immediately.
Lambert’s face relaxed after a couple of minutes. Y/N stayed quiet. This was the most vital part. He was supposed to feel like he fell asleep but keeping him in the state between deep sleep and consciousness was Y/N’s job. Sometimes it took a while, so remaining attentive was essential.
She focused, took a slow, steady breath and looked at Lambert. His brows furrowed and his jaw slightly clenched. Then suddenly she felt a soft ‘click’ inside her mind.
Y/N did it! The dream was there. Now, she had to wait. And hope the main dream doesn’t mix with the rest. Sometimes, she couldn’t do anything about it. The sleeper’s mind just went too far off. But, for some reason, she knew that won’t happen now.
After what seemed like forever, Lambert slowly opened his eyes. Although he just woken up, he looked tired. Y/N gave him a minute to sit up and gather his thoughts.
“So?”
“It worked.”
Lambert didn’t waste time explaining. He got up, grabbed his swords and rest of the equipment, and left the room. Y/N followed.
“What did you see?”
“Vesemir will know what to do. Come on.” he hurried her, taking sharp left turn on the main corridor.
“It’s the middle of night!” Y/N reminded him.
“I’m certain he won’t mind.” Lambert said and stopped himself in front of the last door in dim corridor. He grabbed the knob and, without knocking first, pushed the doors and let himself in.
Vesemir, who was sitting next to the window, on an old wooden chair, immediately stood up.
“I know where he is.” Lambert said.
Vesemir’s lips slightly parted. He didn’t even attempt to hide his surprise.
“Kaer Seren.” Lambert said calmly but Y/N immediately heard there was something else behind those words. Vesemir started pacing around the room, mummering occasional swear words for himself.
“You know that place?” Y/N asked, realizing that the answer was obvious but she wanted to be included.
Lambert looks at Vesemir for the explanation. The older witcher doesn’t say anything but approaches the small wooden box that laid on his nightstand and opens it. He reaches inside and Y/N immediately realises he’s holding the letters they got from Geralt’s abductors.
“You see, Y/N, the person who did this, chose that place for a reason.” he says, handling the letter to Y/N. She approaches and slowly takes them from his unsteady hands.
“Kear Seren, or Caer y Seren, if you prefer Elder, used to belong to witcher school of the Griffin. Through decades, the Griffins gathered a massive collection of books about magic in their library. Council of Mages did not like this - mostly because the Griffins refused to share their knowledge. So, naturally, when they got their chance, mages destroyed the castle and its residents. The school never recovered. They are, of course, a few of its members left, but they don’t have a home to return to once the winter hits.”
“That’s…awfully depressing, actually.” Y/N admits, glancing at the letters in her hands.
“But that…That is supposed to be a lesson for us.” Vesemir says with a hint of warning in his voice.” For Geralt.”
Y/N’s throat tightens. “Are you suggesting that the Mages did this to-”
“I am not suggesting anything just yet.” he interrupts her.
Vesemir knew how this whole situation looked like.
Lambert turns to Y/N. “If this was your kind-”
“My kind is not me. I’m helping you and your friend. Do not forget that, witcher!” Y/N warns him, slightly raising her voice. Lambert’s jaw tightens and he slowly starts to walk towards Y/N. “That won’t make much difference to me if it turns out they hold him captive.”
Y/N felt the rage ignite inside her. She starts marching in Lambert’s direction, lifting her arm up to summon the spell. “You arrogant fuck, how dare- “
“Alright, that’s enough!” Vesemir stands between them, raising hands to stop them both from coming any closer. “Let’s talk about this in the morning. Everyone is tired and there’s nothing we can do in the middle of the night.” he says calmly. Neither Lambert or Y/N say anything. They both still stare at each other over Vesemir’s shoulder.
“Come, Y/N. I’ll show you your room.” Vesemir adds. Y/N hesitates for a moment, but decides to join him in peace and quiet. They leave the room without another word, leaving Lambert behind. Y/N notices just now that she was tightly griping the letters in her hand.
They walk for a while down the dark corridor, Y/N’s realizing her heart was still beating quickly from the rage she felt back there.
When they finally reached the guest room, exhaustion and weariness suddenly overcome her. It seemed like her conversation with Jaskier from this morning was weeks ago.
“I’m sorry for what Lambert said back there. We are all quite tense since we received those letters.” Vesemir says, discomfort written all over his face.
“No offense, Vesemir, but I really don’t want to talk about him right now. I really need some rest.” Y/N says honestly. Vesemir nods.
“Of course. Get some sleep. We will talk in the morning.”
Find me.
*****
Y/N sits up in her bed, covered in sweat and breathing heavily. For a few seconds, she’s not sure where she is. At first, she thought it was the castle from her dreams.
Y/N wipes away the sweat from her forehead and takes a long breath to steady herself.
That dream kept repeating itself all over again for a while now but this time it felt more tense, like she was running out of time. But why?
As soon as she looked around the dark cold room, she realized this is still Kaer Morhen.
Y/N takes another glance around the room and then slowly gets up to dress herself. It was barely morning – the sun was shyly peaking behind the snowy mountains. She wraps her winter cloak around her tired body – is seemed that this castle was cold no matter the season.
Suddenly she hears a light knock on the doors.
Her dream is going to have to wait again.
Y/N opens the door. It was Jaskier.
“You’re awake, good. If you’re already packed, we can go right away. Vesemir and the others are almost ready to go.” he says, entering the room and walking around. Y/N raises eyebrows.
“Go where?”
“To Kaer Seren, of course!” he says tensely rubbing palms together. “To find Geralt.”
“Jaskier.” Y/N starts, but stops because she wasn’t sure what to say to her friend. He raises eyebrows waiting for her response.
“I’m not sure if that’s a good idea.” she says, remembering her fight with Lambert from the last night.
“What? To save him?” Jaskier asks, crossing arms on his chests.
“I’m not saying that!” Y/N answers immediately. “But it might be better if they all go without me.” she speaks softly, feeling the anxiety in her voice. Her friend frowns but doesn’t say anything right away.
“They? You know I’m going as well, right? I know he isn’t your friend. Not even someone you know well. But I do. He’s one of my closest friends, Y/N. I can’t just sit here and wait for someone else to save him. I just can’t. So please” he approaches her slowly. “Do this for me. I’ll own you. I’ll even pay you.” he adds.
Y/N shakes her head. She felt horrible now.
“Jaskier, this has nothing to do you with the money. Or favours.”
“Then what else do you want me to offer you?” Jaskier asks, his voice almost cracking from his pleads.
Y/N takes a long breath and looks away.
“What did Vesemir tell you exactly?” she asks after a few seconds.
“That Geralt is held at Kaer Seren and that we need to go.” Jaskier answers, slowly losing his patience with Y/N.
“Jaskier. His captors might be someone who relies on Chaos.” she finally says.” Someone just like me.”
Jaskier opens his mouth to speak but stops himself. Y/N could almost see his thought process all over his face.
“Y/N, Vesemir wouldn’t-”
“But Lambert would.”
“You’re helping us. You’re on our side!” Jaskier exclaims.
Suddenly, the door of her room opens fully and they both turn around. Redheaded witcher crosses his arms and leans shoulder against the doorframe.
“But when the time comes, would you kill your own brothers and sisters for one pitiful witcher?”
Neither Jaskier nor Y/N say anything.
“That’s what I thought. And that’s why she’s not coming with us.” Lambert says, his eyes pierced on Y/N. She stares back, trying to hide her discomfort.
“Eavesdropper. And in matter of fact, I am.” she responds. Jaskier looks at her, not trying to hide his surprise.
“You are?” he asks quietly.
“Yes, I am.” she says, still looking at Lambert. He scowls, slightly shaking his head. Y/N doesn’t say anything. She didn’t know why she agreed to this.
She was aware this was dangerous for her. Lambert was right. Would she be able to kill a sorceress or a mage that was standing on their way?
But now it was too late. She agreed to come. She let him provoke her again. And this time, it was more serious.
“Alright. But let’s clear up some things, witch.” Lambert slowly walks towards her, until he’s just a couple of centimetres away from her face.
“If I, just a for second, doubt your intentions” he glances over her entire face. Y/N doesn’t move.
He’s standing too close.
“You’re done.” he says quietly. Y/N clenches her jaw but doesn’t lower her eyes.
“Get out of my sight, witcher.” she barely uttered the words. She wasn’t even sure if she spoke them louder than a whisper.
“Gladly.” he instantly responds and pulls back, leaving the room without another glance at her. And just like that, he was gone.
Y/N finally takes a breath. She wasn’t even aware she was holding it in until he was gone.
“Woah.” Jaskier says quietly, glancing towards the door as if he was expecting Lambert to come back.
“What?” Y/N asks.
“He really-”
“Hates me for no reason?” Y/N interrupts him. Jaskier slightly tilts his head, still looking towards the door as if he’s waiting for Lambert to come back.
“No, I don’t think that’s hate.”
Y/N raises eyebrows at her friend. “Is this witcher’s way of showing fondness? If so, I’m not so sure I want to save your friend anymore.” Y/N says.
Jaskier grins. “Geralt is not that bad.” he says but his grin slowly fades away.
“Y/N, are you really going to help us find him?”
Y/N slowly nods. “I will.”
“What changed your mind?” he asks cautiously. Y/N shrugs her shoulder.
“I…I’m not really sure. But I’ll do my best to help you and your friend.” she admits. Jaskier looks at her for couple of seconds and then cleans his throat.
“Alright then, that’s good enough for me. We should be on our way then!” he says, sounding more enthusiastically this time. Y/N agrees, and turns around to look for her bag. There was no reason to wait, they should be on their way as soon as possible.
“Vesemir and the others are already in the main hall. We should join them.” Jaskier says, heading towards the doors.
Y/N grabs the bag from the wooden chair and heads towards her friend. Just as she was about leave the room, she notices those letters that Vesemir gave her sitting on table next to the door.
Y/N grabs them, not really sure why would she need them.
When they finally joined Vesemir and the other witchers in the main hall, the sun had just fully risen and the day was about to begin.
“Y/N we need your assistance again.” Vesemir says after they all formed a circle in the middle of hall. Y/N counted – there was 6 of them. Vesemir, Lambert and Coen were standing with bags over their shoulders while Ciri, the only female witcher Y/N ever met, was holding only her silver sword, nervously switching weight from one leg to another. Jaskier gave Ciri a warm, comforting look but the girl looked at Y/N. Y/N tried to smile but it felt forced. There was nothing comforting or cheerful in conversation they were about to have.
“How can I help?” Y/N asks, turning to Vesemir.
“We need a portal. To Kaer Seren.”
Lambert and Coen groaned. Ciri gave them a warning look.
“Babies.” she mutters, crossing her arms.
Y/N nervously swallows. She wasn’t particularly good at making portals. Being oneiromancer didn’t require creating them anyway. Especially not so far away from her current position.
Or for so many people at once.
“I’m…I’m not sure if that’s good idea.” she honestly tells Vesemir.
“Why not?” Jaskier asks.
“Firstly, I’m oneiromancer – we don’t use portals as our primary form of transportation. Secondly, traveling that far with so much people cannot be done without huge risk.”
“What are the risks?” Jaskier asks carefully.
“Are you joking, bard?” Lambert interjected. “I’m not risking shit.”
“Cowards!” Ciri is slowly losing her patience. She turns to Vesemir. “Let me do it, please!”
“Child, we talked about this.” he speaks softly with the girl, disregarding her infuriation. “We need intractable portals. Yours could be traced from other side of Continent.”
“I don’t think that’s possible for anyone else either. Portals of those proportions are just too noticeable.” Y/N answers.
“I say we ride. That’s the safest option.” Lambert suggests.
“Ride to Kaer Seren is almost week long! They will kill him before we even pass Caingorn!” Ciri groans.
“They won’t kill him.” Vesemir says calmly. Ciri tilts her head and raises her eyebrows.
“How can you be so sure about that?”
Everyone is looking at Vesemir now.
“Because he’s being held as a warning. Those letters…they wouldn’t send it unless they want something from us. Something in exchange for Geralt.”
“Or someone.” Y/N adds. Lambert looks at her.
“What do you mean?” Vesemir asks before Lambert had a chance to speak.
Y/N takes a long breath, stopping herself before saying something that could trigger a new argument.
She carefully formed her next words looking at Ciri.
“If they want someone - “
“She thinks we are holding someone in our cells that they might want back.” Lambert says, crossing arms on his chests. He didn’t sound intimidating this time.
This time, he sounded like he was…mocking her. Y/N’s lips parted but she didn’t know what to say.
Ciri and Coen raise eyebrows at Y/N.
“That’s not what I meant!” Y/N says, realizing how terrible that sounded.
“No? Enlighten us then.” he shrugs. Everyone is looking at her. Even Jaskier, who has never been this quiet since Y/N met him.
“I was thinking… they might want someone else, but couldn’t get to them. Someone like Ciri.” Y/N tells him, but looks over to Ciri. Whitehaired woman looked enraged.
“I don’t care! Just because you think they might want me, won’t stop me from saving Geralt. End of discussion.”
“Cirilla.” Vesemir warns her and the girl’s expression soften a bit. “Y/N might be right.”
“Are you seriously agreeing with her!?” Ciri exclaims, stepping forward.
“I do.” Vesemir responds calmly, but lifts his palm when Ciri was about to protest again. “But I still think you should come with us.” he adds. Ciri stays quiet for a second and then nods. She glances at Y/N with some sharpness in her expression but doesn’t say anything.
“So here is what I suggest we do.” Vesemir says when he realizes Ciri calmed down. “Y/N. You’re going to make a portal. But here’s the catch – you’re not taking us to Kaer Seren.” he adds.
“No?” Y/N asks, slightly nervous when portals are brought up again. One look at Lambert and Coen and Y/N figures they might be as well.
“You are going to take us halfway. To Hengfors.”
