Day 11: Shopkeeper

Jarkul runs a shoe shop with his half-orge sister and is currently a murder suspect. He looks nearly identical to the party's sorcerer, Clover. He's nervous all the time, but an innocent man has nothing to hide, right?

I was conducting an internet search and I stumbled onto one of your characters.

What Nayiss Ouribori’s backstory?

Hiya! As a quick spark notes of it, she was conceived through the machinations of a marilith who possessed a human woman with the intention of the resulting child being able to serve as a vessel for the marilith on the material plane (hence why she turned out a tiefling). There was a lot of grooming and attempted brainwashing involved in her early history where she was effectively being trained to become something of a living weapon. However, she was naturally curious and intrepid and eventually that lead to her uncovering rituals that were meant to transform her into a full cambion (half-fiend) puppet. She got resentful and furious and opted to break away from that life and basically became something of a vigilante that was hell-bent on undoing anything that sought to control her (or really anyone), and that eventually lead her to the Tiamat Cult of the Dragon, which she effectively infiltrated with the intention of trying to tear it down from the inside. However, unbeknownst to her, her mortal "surrogate" was a ranking member of the cult. A few years after Nayiss was born, she had effectually fractured the mind of Nayiss's elven father and left him as a husk to care for the young child in an attempt to get away from the demonic influences of the marilith--but that child, now a grown woman, showing up in her sphere of operations caused a panic. So she sent her on a suicide mission to assassinate a dragonborn ambassador without telling her that he was a paladin of Bahamut--hoping that it would either get Nayiss killed or at least imprisoned. That dragonborn ambassador was Clanless Jarkul, and he had been on the trail of the cult after following it all the way from Tymanther following Tiamat cult activity in the dragonborn homeland. Nayiss managed to inflict a few wounds on him, but she was wholly unprepared for the fact he was a paladin and had the aid of magics well beyond her own capabilities. He chased and immediately caught her. She realized she was outmatched and promptly surrendered in an attempt to preserve her own life, spilling what her actual goal was and offering information that he could use. Zone of Truth proved she was being truthful, so he was willing to hear her out. He then effectively helped her disappear. As far as the Cult was concerned, she was dead, and they continued to work together off-and-on for five years. Up until the Tyranny of Dragons adventure path commenced, during which Nayiss opted to offer him the chance to take a name with her seeing he didn't have one of his own. And they had become like family to each other. She chose Ourobori, like ouroboros, as "the war never ends, thus the fighting will never cease". Something an oath that had ultimately brought them together. And with that gesture, they both realized that over the years they had fallen in love. Just in time for the nature of Nayiss's origin--as the spiritual daughter of the marilith Reluhantis, who was in turn the daughter of the queen of mariliths, Shaktari--to start to come to the surface, and the conspiracy of the Rule of Three to become more prominent in the wake of Tiamat's attempted to return to power.
