so according to one of the more credible mk dataminers, there are 8 unfilled character slots as of right now that could be used for future dlc after kp2 is over

he does not know the roster:kameo ratio breakdown, but he does know that that at the absolute most for kameos, it will be 7 kameos and 1 roster character, and at the absolute most for roster characters, it will be 6 roster characters and 2 kameos. the exact breakdown is still to be determined

after scrubbing through the code after ghostface was added, he was able to narrow down the possibilities for who could be a kameo character down to blaze, cassie blade (au cassie based on kr i guess?), daegon, hsuhao, jade, jarek, kobra, kotal, mokap, nightwolf, and triborg

of those kameo possibilities, several of them are also contenders for main roster spots too. those characters are blaze, hsuhao, jade, jarek, kobra, kotal, nightwolf, and triborg

I was struck by an idea while driving home and it wouldn't leave me. No guarantee this piece will make it into the final product, but I thought about it. Admittedly it feels too Marvel-y in the seriousness then suddenly silly. Ish. I mean if you think about the consequences it may be less silly but STILL. Anyway behold.

Rain woke with a start. He blinked and stared at the ceiling, suddenly sluggish and everything feeling at half speed in him. The ceiling wasn't the one he had grown accustomed to in the last few months. It was lower and resembled some odd blue dirt to him, rather than old and comforting wooden panels. He also saw he was on a couch and then he remembered where he was despite what felt like an aggressive hangover pressing down on his mind.

He was sitting on Cassan's couch and thus at her residence. And he was here because something was going wrong with her magic–so wrong even Ryu couldn't figure it out. So of course Rain was sent because either he was the only one who could figure it out, or out of everyone, he was the most disposable with the crimes he had committed. And as he shifted, stiff from having fallen asleep sitting up, he saw the other end of the couch Cassan had curled up on was empty. 

Rain cringed as he looked around. The hangover, he realized, was not an actual one–there hadn't been any alcohol, and their discussion was clear as day to him. But the contents of it were simply just out of reach. And whatever was making him feel this way was an outside force. Forcing himself to shove aside the congealing thoughts, Rain realized it was magic–the strange, wild magic that was Cassan's.

He fought to get himself to stand. Something in him said to sit down and just ignore whatever was going on for the time being. With a growl, Rain shook his head and convinced himself to stay standing. This was definitely some kind of spell or charm, and whatever Cassan was doing, it was a foolish decision–especially given the state she had been in the day before.

Rain staggered his way down the hall; the closer he got to her room, the stronger the feeling of needing to be elsewhere got. But Rain was determined to find Cassan and find out what was going on with her magic this time. And he had a good guess that if he made his intentions known, then there was a chance she'd ease up on whatever was happening.

He pushed the door open and found her curled up against the wall, her eyes wide and on her phone. She stared at it like it was a venomous snake. Her fingers were digging into the old plush robe she wore, and he could see she had picked at the patch on her pant leg. "Cassan?" He asked.

She didn't look at him. "I woke up, and he was dead." 

Rain paused, sensing he should actually hold back until he knew what kind of situation this was–a real one or a fragmented one. "Who's dead?" He asked.

Cassan swallowed, and her eyes began to water. "Oliver," she said. "I woke up, and he was dead." She said.

Rain still didn't know who she was referring to. Or, specifically, which Oliver. It could have been the real one or one from another life. "Did your family contact you?" He asked.

Cassan actually looked at him. Only her eyes moved, but it may as well have been a slap. "Never," she hissed.

Rain gave a cautious nod and held his hands up. "Who told you, then?"

Cassan's eyes were back on the phone. "I did."

Rain felt his shoulders relax. So it was a fragment. This meant there was no actual death or grieving he had to somehow help with. But it also meant he was already getting a chance to witness how the fragmentation process worked. "Is that what you woke up with today, then?"

She nodded. "It was a car accident, I think," she said after a moment. "I don't know." She said. "I just know that his number–his phone number is the most brightest, blaring neon sign ever in my mind." Cassan said in a strained manner. "Like…the me who died knows he's alive somewhere here. She's convinced the number is his."

Rain, sensing he could enter the room now due to knowing who died and how Cassan learned, stepped in. He walked over and crouched down to look at the phone. There was a number on it, and it was waiting to be dialed. "Is this the 'thing' you need to do to ease the nagging?" He asked. The pseudo-hangover was fading and he could more easily recall what they had discussed. It had been quite a bit, but it was no problem for Rain to remember.

Cassan just nodded.

"You don't look like you want to," he said. Of course he wanted to push her, but even he had enough sense by now to know now wasn't the time to do that. 

Cassan shook her head. "Of course I don't. We haven't spoken in years. What if he's in med school?" Then she cringed and her hands flew to her head. "No. No, that's the other Oliver–the dead one," she hissed through clenched teeth. "My–this Oliver. My Oliver didn't want to be a doctor. He wanted to be a forest ranger." Then she looked at him through her bangs. They seemed more ragged, and Rain wanted to know if this was one of the physical effects of the fragmentation. "Regardless–I can't just call him. Whatever he's got going for him has to be way better without me in it."

Rain wanted to roll his eyes. Surely she couldn't be serious? With how she looked out for everyone at the bookstore, whatever Oliver was doing with his life, Rain couldn't see how a doting older sister would make it worse. If even his mother could want to see him again after what he had done, Rain couldn't imagine Cassan doing worse. 

And then already Rain was getting an idea. "Do you have to do it?"

Cassan frowned, sensing what he was up to. "What do you mean?" She asked, looking at him, her head moving even.

Rain reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone. "What if I called him?"

"What?" Cassan stared as if he had insulted her.

Rain shrugged. "I would be the one he hears–just some random man. This is assuming the number is the same," he added. "But then you would know without having to interrupt his life–if we hear him, then we have a number for him. I can even ask to confirm if the number is his work or personal number." He then leaned over to get a look at the numbers on Cassan's phone. "How old is he?"

"You're serious."

Rain nodded. "Only one way to find out. Perhaps the piece of you that wishes to know simply needs to confirm if this number is his. And we can do that quite easily." He finished putting the number in. "So–his age?"

"Twenty-eight or so," Cassan stammered.

Rain nodded. "Then we'll listen for a young man. If an elderly woman or old man answers, then we can figure this is the wrong number." He pressed the call button and angled the phone so Cassan could hear as well. Through the corner of his eye, he saw her tense like a cat ready to bolt.

After three rings: "Hahaheeey SONIC SPEAKING!" Yelled an inebriated man. 

"Fffuuuck you man that's not my name!" Roared another, equally inebriated man. "Gimme back my phone!" 

There was the sound of scuffling, swearing, and somebody getting punched. Then a second later…

"Who the fuck is this, and why're you calling me at two in the fucking morning?" The second voice demanded. 

Rain could hear what he had learned to recognize as "heavy bass" and to associate it with clubs, flashing lights, and zero-sobriety. "Sorry, this is just an, ah, insurance call for Oliver?" Rain said, trying to remember what the annoying calls everyone got were about.

Cassan smacked her palm to her forehead. Well, at least it got her to act more human and less shell-shocked.

"What?" The man hissed. And despite being thousands of miles away, Rain couldn't help but sense he was in danger. "Who is this?"

"Wrong number." Rain said and promptly hung up.

Cassan stared. "He has your number now, you know."

Rain shrugged, not shaking the discomfort of something akin to his soul wanting to leave his body. "Ryu can get me a new one, I'm sure of it."

Cassan's mouth twisted to the right as she raised her left brow. 

"What?" Rain tossed his phone aside as if that would somehow create more distance between him and the other man. "Well, I fail to see the issue–you seem normal now."

Cassan huffed and looked away. "Lucky guess."

Rain let out an amused huff himself. He had no doubt the extreme emotional whiplash was unpleasant and she was simply covering it up. And then already his mind was ticking away at what was just confirmed by such a simple experiment. The fragments were truly forces of their own. How Cassan hadn't been torn apart already was a mystery he was determined to solve. No doubt Cassan would want to know herself, but Rain knew pride when he saw it. She wasn't so prideful to deny his help, but he knew she was prideful enough that it wasn't going to be an easy process. Which was fine. It simply meant there would be more to learn, but it also meant Rain finally had the chance to push the limits and see what could happen next.

So Yesterday, I had my birthday. On December 1st 9:48 pm 2024, I finally turned 17! And I still don't have a job. Or a drivers license. Or any confidence on what I want to do with my life.

So to ignore the sad truth that is reality where an orange criminal becomes the president and we all hate each other over minor things, I'm going to work on my urban sub zero au and fix it up a bit.

When I say fix it, I mean I'm going to organize and structure it into a sort of plan/map of the universe in order for both me and you guys to track and understand a bit better and hopefully make it so that I'll be finally be able to write an actually story out of this.

Ok to start this off, the beginning of this au starts after the events of mortal kombat 2. Now the main focus of is Kuai Liang and his family but that mostly a cover story as their are many other storylines and possibilities I want to put in this au. So I'm going to list the different storyline I want to follow and describe the story details that go into it a long with when these storylines take place.

To start off the story ideas that happened between this universe version of mk2 and mk3

Subzero family:This is the main story and focus for this au and follow Kuai Liang after the cyber initiative, where he fled to America and comes across his long lost sister Lisa and her daughter and his niece Holly (who is this universe version of Frost). Now Liang (yeah also have to mention in this au Kuai is the family name) has to adjust to a normal life, connect with his long lost family and explores his own soul has he tries to live the life he was supposed from his birth . Characters from this story: Liang, Lisa, Holly, Bi Han later down the line, and Hanzo as a recurring character.

Black Dragon traitors: Now this was originally this was part of the main subzero family with Liang becoming a vigilante like the mk vs dc sub zero ending but I decided against it as it would have been to crowded in Liang story arc and would kind of take away from the main focus of that story which would be family so now it's is own story separate from sub zero's story though I may cross it over with that story along with other stories like Cassie upbringing. This storyline is inspired by running-with-the-feels defection au though with some changes to make sure it not a copy and paste of their au. In this story Kabal wants out of the Black Dragon and wants to make Kano pay so he hatches a plan to sabotage every Black Dragon activities along with trying to find a way to escape it and take down it down once and for all. He both gains allies and enemies with in the ranks and encounters betrayals and new secrets. While that's happening Kurtis Stryker begins to track down some suspicious activity and tries to undercover Black Dragon activity and what their planning. Main Characters are Kabal and Stryker. Supporting characters are Erron Black, Kobra, Kira, No face, Tremor, Jarek, and Kano.

demons and cyborgs: After the events of this au version of mythologies, Sareena becomes curious about humanity and wish to find both a way out of her servitude and the human who inspired her. However while she manages to escape Quan Chi, her sisters still remain trapped and she comes up short not knowing where he her old friend is (should also mention in this au while Bi Han becomes Noob Saibot, he never become subservient to Quan Chi and escape the moment he was created). But soon she find two unlikely allies who had a history with her savior. Basically she ran into the Cyrax and Smoke who were cyberized at the time, got into a fight with them, she realized that their souls weren't in there bodies and that they shared the Lin Kuei symbol Bi Han had, she does a ritual to return their souls to their bodies and promises them to free the Lin Kuei from cyberization in exchange for both freeing her sisters and helping find Bi Han. Main characters include Sareena, Tomas and Cyrax. Supporting/recurring characetrs include Ashrah, Kia, Jataaka, Hydro. Main antagonist are Quan Chi and the Lin Kuei grandmaster Onrio.

Cassie upbringing: Similarly to the mkx comics, Johnny and Sonya end up accidentally conceiving Cassie and choose to stick together to raise her. Unlike the comics/canon they stay together and fall in love. Basically this is just Subzero family but with the Johnny, Sonya and Cassie but it focus on the Johnny and Sonya growing closers and the struggles the face with both parenting and work life balance. Main characters are obviously Johnny, Sonya and Cassie with supporting characters of Jax, Vera and Jacqui and planning on having Kenshi later down the line.

Now for the Story ideas that happened after the event of mk3 but before mk4.

Earthrealm defenders: In wake of Outworld invasion Raiden decides the best course of action is to assemble all of earthrealm's greatest fighters and prepare them to become the next guardians of earthrealm. This would also be a character dive into Raiden psych and his past with other warriors from long ago. Main Character is Raiden obviously with supporting characters of Fujin, the other elemental gods, and Nightwolf.

Outworld civil war: In the wake of Shao Kahn death, the alliance with the netherealm being broken and the return of many Edenian royalty, Outworld has now become more harsh as it was before, with heavy amounts of civil war from all of its inhabitants all to both fill the power vacuum and to enact vengeance for all the wrongs in the past. Kitana along with a now alive but weaken Sindel have to navigate the now war torn kingdom, create alliances, and return order once more into outworld while also trying to return their once glorious people to their former glory. Main Characters are Kitana, Sindel, Jade. Other key players within the story Baraka and his Tarkatans, Nitara and the Vaterrians, Goro and the Shokan, Motaro and the centurians, Rain and Tanya with the a group of Edenian, Kotal and the Osh-Tekk, D'vorah and the Kytinn and Mileena with a ragtag group experiments of Shang Tsung such as Skarlet, Ermac, Meat, Ferra and Torr.

Saurians of Earthrealm: After the invasion of Earthrealm, Syzoth gets stranded in Earthrealm and has to hide underground to avoid the wrath of Raiden only find his race that still reside underneath the earth.He attempts to convince them to join outworld only to find that not only do they not wish to go but that they are entirely different from the saurians he once knew. Now Syzoth has to come to turns with becoming alienated by his own people while also become sort of it defender from an unknown threat. Main Character is Syzoth with supporting characters of Chameleon, Khameleon and Ashrah.

Champions journey: In short Liu Kang sterotypical character arc with him learning to become a leader and him navigating his new role as earthrealm champion. This will also set him up as the the new protector of earthrealm/fire god Liu Kang. Main Character is Liu Kang Obviously, supporting characters would be Kung Lao, Bo Rai Cho, Li Mei, a young Shujinko , a young Kai, a young Kung Jin and Raiden.

So yeah those are the separate storylines though are also two "crossovers" between some of these storylines one happening after the events of the outworld invasion where Sonya and Jax team up with Kabal, Stryker and some Black Dragon defectors to take down the the organization and Kano once and for all and another one happening during the events of mk4 where Hanzo teams up with the sub zero brothers, Ashrah and others to take down Quan Chi.

And yeah thats basically the current map of my au though I might add onto it in the future along the way life think about the future with the kombat kids or onaga. So yeah thank you for reading. Running after my World Warrior (Street Fighter) tournament is none other than the gore-y, surreal, awesome Mortal Kombat tournament! We will be pitting all of the characters that made a playable appearance in Mortal Kombat (sorry Kronika) in a bracket of 64. From Scorpion to Sub-Zero, Kitana to Mileena, Liu Kang to Shang Tsung and more!

This will be single elimination as usual.

I know some characters have two different identities, most prominently the changes of Mortal Kombat 1. Hence I will be listing characters such as Scorpion and Sub-Zero under their real names. So if you like Kuai Liang either as Sub-Zero or Scorpion, vote for his name as it will represent the character in the series as a whole. Same goes to Hanzo (The original Scorpion) and Bi-Han (Sub-Zero and Noob).

Honestly I've found it pretty easy to avoid ships in this fandom that aren't the ones I like but if you ship Sindel/Shao Kahn I genuinely hate you personally. Even if it's only specifically Retcon Sindel that just means you support the retcon so I still hate you

I don't really get why anyone likes the Black Dragon so much tbh but I think that's just because I don't really care much for any of the characters involved. Kano is. well he's definitely not for me but like I can get the appeal there at least he's an OG and he has a lot of personality, and Kabal is okay but I'm sorry Erron is nothing to me all of the other Black Dragon members from the 3d era are nothing to me (actually I take it back Jarek is everything to me because of that MK4 ending you know the one) and the lore behind the faction itself holds no interest for me I just. I don't care
