If you like Japanese style soft cakes with whipped cream that are delicate and not too sweet, you should check out Nagomi Cake House. All their cakes (roll cakes, cream cakes, cheesecakes), puddings, cream puffs, and eclairs need to be refrigerated but will last a few days in the fridge. There is a wide variety of choose from and everything looks pretty and perfect (clearly baked with love). The Japanese flavors include hojicha, Sakura, Mont Blanc, matcha. Whole cakes and cake slices are available.

Matcha cream cake ($5.50): the cake is light like a sponge cake and the cream layers add moisture. There are three thin layers of matcha sponge cake, a layer of red bean whipped cream, a layer of matcha whipped cream, a top layer of whipped cream, and a heavy dusting of matcha powder on top. It’s light, delicate, moist, and soft. The matcha powder is slightly bitter but that actually makes the cake more interesting.

The shop is cute but there is no seating and I don’t think they sell any beverages. It’s really meant for takeout. Closed on Wednesdays

Mochi was great!! It's soft and chewy. It's great but i wished that there was less red bean.

Very chocolatey, more like a chocolate drink rather than a mocha. A nice sweet treat.

An evening snack of toasted Fluffy Cheese Bread with a cup of Milk Tea. My favourite cheese bread from Johan Paris is filled with cubes of savoury cheese inside and topped with more cheese outside. Toasting it made the crust crispy and softened the cheese inside.

Yamazaki Bakery, 135 S San Pedro St, Los Angeles (Little Tokyo), CA 90012

Yamazaki Bakery, a Japanese bakery, recently opened in the old Demitasse space at Weller Court. It’s about a block away from their other location at Japanese Village Plaza. The Japanese Village Plaza shop has a wider selection but the Weller Court shop has lots of baked buns, cake slices, cream puffs, donuts, croissants, turnovers, cheesecake, steamed buns, and loaves of bread. They also sell coffee, tea, smoothies, and mochi ice cream. And you can order custom cakes.

Unlike a lot of bakeries, the baked buns are not self-serve. They have a wide variety, like hot dog buns, curry buns, Bismarck toast, etc.

* Mini tsubu anpan (red bean buns): the bun was soft and slightly sweet (like pan de sal), the red bean filling was very sweet, there was an ample amount of filling

* Steamed Japanese cheesecake ($3.25): fluffy, light, and slightly cheesy, on the dry side but heating it in the microwave helped

* Steamed chicken & curry bun ($3.20): this was kept hot in their steamer and it was too mushy and oversteamed as a result. The filling was super mushy though I could taste tiny bits of chicken in the yellow curry, along with onions and carrots

They’ll validate parking (1 hour of free parking) with a $10 purchase. The credit card minimum is $10.

There is no seating inside the bakery.

Bun itself is slightly chewy. I love the ganache! There's a good amount of green tea. Would totally get this again.
