Torchwood Timeline (May 2024)
This is my canon timeline for the Torchwood TV stories, novels, and audio productions. It's fairly similar to the wiki timeline with a few small tweaks. It's also completely spoiler free, unlike the wiki timeline.
Some entries have firm dates, some have months, some have general decades, so I've tried my hardest to fit them into where I feel they fit. If anyone spots anything that I've missed or sees any glaring problems let me know and I'll try to suss it out. New stories will be added as they are released.

I WANNA WATCH THE WORLD BURN AND EVERYONE GET MEAN!
* isabela merced, cis girl + she / her | you know devon averescu, right? they’re twenty, and they’ve lived in irving for, like, five years? well, their spotify wrapped says they listened to stupid girls by p!nk like, a million times this year, which makes sense ’cause they’ve got that whole bringing a knife to a gun fight, spilled slushie on hot pavement so it turns that dark red kind of color, fashion looks inspired by paris hilton circa 2006 thing going on. i just checked and their birthday is janurary 15th so they’re a capricorn, which is unsurprising, all things considered. ( mackenzie, 21, est, she / her )
warnings for neglect, crime, addiction, disappearances, theft ( all mentions , no graphic descriptors ) .
much like she is now, devon came into the world kicking and screaming. its hard not to realize that she’d come to fight for attention from her mothers more .. appealing aspects, but she did her best. born to esther last name, the only ones who were in the delivery room were devons own mother and her grandmother ( sid and esthers mother ). dad was nowhere to be found and that’s a similar mainstay throughout devons life.
she’d lived in the last name house for a while, until esther had decided she didn’t want to raise her daughter to be an essential pawn in her mothers little crime game. the same one she’d grown up with playing all her own life. one night, esther had booked it out of there with devon in tow and moved to raleigh —— it wasn’t as far as she’d like to get away, but it did the trick. of course her grandmother had eyes on her, it seemed, but didn’t exactly chase after them. esther presumes she’d been kicked out of the will and wasn’t welcome back which .. as far as devon knows, probably isn’t far off from the truth.
the pair weren’t exactly the worse off on the block. they had food most times, a shitty apartment and esther had a solid job for a while. stripping was something of a release for the woman to bounce back after having a baby. the atmosphere and money were also enticing, but she worked at a diner just a block from their dirty apartment. could have been a lot worse, that’s for sure. no help from devons father ( a one night stand and esther never got his last name, let alone any other descriptors beyond handsome and a flirt ), it was them two vs. the world, and devon had no issue with that.
POSSIBLE NEGLECT TW / growing up meant she had to take care of herself. yes, her mother was round, but working from early in the morning to late at night wasn’t ideal. by the time devon was six, she’d been feeding herself frozen dinners in the microwave and taking her own baths. not exactly safe nor was it conventional, but it worked for a while. this last until devon was a teenager, her bond with her mom only becoming more and more strained until it felt like devon was living with a ghost in her own apartment.
ADDICTION TW / then, esther had started to come home after days of being on binges ; little did devon know, her mom had been akin to a wild child in her high school years, extending until she’d become pregnant with devon at the age of 19 - she swore she’d never return to the life of partying and drugs. one thing turned into another and a man, her mothers supposed boyfriend at the time, reintroduced esther to it. then she couldn’t exactly stop. devon wasn’t only around at this time, she didn’t nessecarillay understand of have the skills to help hr mother kick it again. esther moved the pair back to irving, hoping to kick it herself after a tearful plea from her own daughter.
this helped, a little. except it didnt. the move caused esther to be much more secretive with her habits, hiding it while devon went to school ( or pretended to ) then dipping out before she got home. then she stopped being home altogether. devon had begun to cope with this loss in her own way .. acting out, getting into trouble, staying out late and making friends with the wrong people. pick-pocketing. stealing from friends, neighbors, convenience stores, any place she could slip things into her pocket or make a quick getaway.
DISSAPPERANCE + NEGLECT MENTION TW / then it all became a little too real. she hadn’t heard from her mom in months, despite text calls and her own little investigative research. she’d been talking to the guy back in raleigh, the only she swore to devon she’d stay away from. she’d don’t the last few months in raleigh - only occasional stop back to the apartment to check in, enough so the neighbors though that esther was more of a hardworking mother rather than a neglectful one. one night in the summer, there was a noet on the kitchen table. mom was never coming back, and to call her grandmother.
there’s been moments where she remembers her grandmother. holding her hand along the beach, lots of talk about words she didn’t understand at the time while she sat at the kitchen table. the only numbers her mom had in her phone was the man from raleigh and her grandmother - and its not even an hour after after the police come to the scene that she shows up, too. helping devon pack up her things from the shitty apartment into a nicer car than she’d ever seen in her life, into a house that felt like she had an outsider more than a family member. devons only been living with the rest of the last name family for almost two years, but she’d taken after her grandmothers in ways she’s unsure if the older woman likes or not.
OTHER INFORMATION
honestly kind of feral .. will bite without hesitation ( real )
has an iquana
i’m tired of thinking i’ll add more once i add her to the doc..

FLASHBack: Week 30 - Peanut Butter Jelly Time
On 13 November 2002, the seventh episode of the third season of the NBC comedy-drama show Ed, "The Wedding", featured Jennifer Bradley using the animation to try to cheer the titular Ed (Link should go to the 35:12 mark in that video).
On 20 November 2005, the sixteenth episode of the fourth season of Family Guy, "The Courtship of Stewie's Father", Brian the Dog tries to cheer Peter up by dressing up like the banana and singing the song. Later, in episode sixteen of season nine from 8 May 2011, "The Big Bang Theory", Stewie would use time travel to steal the moment from Brian.
In Fall of 2005, Ka-chew!, (the commericals division of animation studio Klasky Csupo), produced a public service announcement for Nickelodeon, Breakfast Time, modelled on Peanut Butter Jelly Time, but with a dancing plate and cutlery, and an original song sung by DJ Mighty Mi, Albert S and Balinda. This PSA would regularly air at 6am, marking the transition from the Nick-at-Night programming back to their more kid-oriented fare.
In January of 2006, Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline (savagely mock-interviewed here by Weird Al, the one artist to be featured on First-Class FLASHBack despite never having made a Flash Animation himself), was trying to promote his "Brazilian Ass-Shaker" of a new song, PopoZão. An enterprising YouTuber (whose name has been lost to time as the original video was taken down), discovered that KFed's head bobs worked even better as Peanut Butter Federline.
On 31 Janurary 2007, Sophat Peou attempted to get on American Idol wearing the banana suit and singing the song. He lasted in front of the judges for ten seconds before being dismissed as forgettable.
On 13 Descember 2009, the band Weezer released a music video for their song Pork and Beans. A celebration of dozens of internet memes, Peanut Butter Jelly time would end up referenced three times in the video. First the Banana appears as a logo on a t-shirt at the 50 second mark, then at 2:43, the Banana is revealed to be one of the masked ninjas attacking Afro Ninja, and finally at the 2:58 mark, the "IT'S PEANUT BUTTER JELLY TIME!!!" caption from the original animation shows up.
In the World of Warcraft MMORPG, the dance for Male Tauren characters is based off of the Peanut Butter Jelly Time Banana, with some Noodle Dance and Raise the Roof thrown in for good measure. This same animation would be reused for the Draenei subrace, the Broken.
That's all for this week. Next week: Mid-Month Madness.

DSDN 241 Project 1 Part 3:
Draft of poster transcript:
The Bic Cristal is a revolutionary writing instrument designed by Marcel Bich’s writing instrument company, the Société PPA, between 1949 and 1950(Editors of Phaidon, 2006, p.187). The ball point pen’s mechanism was heavily adapted from initial inventor Laszlo Biro in 1938 (Editors of Phaidon, 2006, p.187), whom Bich bought the patent off (Editors of Phaidon, 2006, p.188). The Bic Cristal is renown as the world’s bestselling pen, having made its one-hundreth billionth sale in 2006 (“Pen – best selling,” 2006).
The Bic Cristal was conceptualized to become a pen that was; easy to transport, cost efficient, and extremely reliable. At the time of its inception a decade before by Biro, the ball point pen possessed the revolutionary ability to be used reliably in almost any environment, most notable at high altitudes by pilots; an area which fountain pens often failed (Bevan & Wright, 2007, p.82). This highly advanced and sophisticated capability was later improved by Bich through his development of a vicious ink which neither leaked nor clogged, which proved critical in his monopoly takeover of the market against rival Reynolds pen; which was known to leak (Rosenberg, 1971, p.34).
The Bic Cristal received critical acclaim, self-producing the slogan of “writes first time, every time”. It’s revolutionary cost efficiency was also key in establishing popularity, with the pen becoming so widespread and ubiquitous, that the French ministry of education permitted its use in classrooms in 1965 (Editors of Phaidon, 2006, p.189). Over the course of the last century, the Bic Cristal has produced a momentous shift in the writing industry from fountain pens to ball point pens, and is now considered a design paragon for high functionality, low-cost, and user-focused design; earning a well-deserved permanent place in the Museum of Modern Art (“Humble Masterpieces”, 2004).
STATS:
57 pens are sold every second.
4000 tolerances make up 1 ant.
Costs 1/10 of cent = many cans of coke
110 page safety manual.
1.5 miles of writing (2000 words) = gas milage.
A time less classic?
110 PAGE INSTRUCTION MANUAL
The Bic Cristal is a basic and functional item which cannot become any simpler, unlikely any cheaper, and very unlikely to be any more replicable, with the average human only holding onto one for on average six months (“The Power of the Pen”, 2015). This base-line necessity of the instrument places it in a position akin to basic human needs such as food or shelter; there is no way to build upon further needs and luxuries without food or shelter, just like how there is no way to build upon further technologies without the ability to write. For these reasons alone, one could argue the Bic Cristal is a timeless classic.
Similarly, given how even after almost seven decades of what is considered the greatest expansion of human technology, the Bic Cristal is still in mass production and maintaining a market monopoly, it will likely continue to thrive for seven more. This is evident as…
IN THE FAR EAST:
China in 2017 has only just managed to produce its first ball point pen, expending several hundred million in research and development, despite being a world leader in technologies (Ruisheng & Nan, 2017). This huge investment from such a technology giant indicates the sheer importance of such an instrument, invented not within the last 7 years, but 7 decades ago. Having been able to withstand the test of time for 67 years, it can without a doubt survive another 33 to make a century lasting item, and perhaps make the test of time for a millennium.
Design features:
Hexagonal body for ergonomic feel (inspired by pencil).
Injection moulded polystyrene body. Transparency shows ink levels. Hexagonal grip for ergonomic feel.
Tiny hole to maintain constant air pressure within and without.
Tungsten carbinde ball bearing vitrified through heat, ground down 50000 times by diamond abrasives. This ball replaced a stainless steel version in 1961 and is ground down to 0.1 micrometre tolerance.
Polypropylene cap with small hole to reduce chance of suffocation in event of ingestion/swallowing.
Tungsten carbide ball bearing (1mm). Milled and ground to 0.1 micrometre tolerance with industrial diamond abrasives after being vitrified by heat. These ball bearings replaced stainless steel ball points in 1961.
Brass, nickle, and silver alloy heads made through extrusion.
