From Girl Next Door to Conniver Blair
Kassie Wesley is making a dramatic switch from sweet young thing to Llanview’s bad girl BLAIR but she’s not daunted by the challenge.
“I’m so excited about this,” Kassie tells SOAP OPERA MAGAZINE. “My character CHELSEA REARDON on GL was so squeaky clean, while Blair is on the dark side.”
“I’m so used to playing the girl next door. It’s like night and day. But it’s definitely going to be fun.”
The young actress left GL in January 1991 after five years as Chelsea, then moved to California with her husband Richard Hankins, GL’s former art director.
This is her first soap role since then, and also the first time she’s taken over a part held by another actress. Devious Blair, who shares her Aunt Dorian’s scheming genes, was previously played by Mia Korf.
Kassie, whose first airdate was December 15, admits it could be tough taking over a role when another actress is so closely identified with that part of the audience.
“There will be people saying, ‘Kassie’s better’ and others saying ‘She’s never going to be the Blair we know.’ It takes a while for people to warm up to you, but even more-so when you’re recast in a role,” Kassie explains.
With quiet confidence, she adds; “I can do the acting and play the part, but I cannot believe that out of all the actresses they had to pick from, they picked me. That’s not to say I can’t play the bitch - just ask my husband!”
It’s easy to be confident when you’re as multitalented as Kassie. Besides her acting credits, she’s a superb singer and songwriter. She was featured as a backup singer with Bobby Womack and other country music stars, and she performed solo at Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.
Still looking to further her musical career, Kassie is now sending her demo record to recording companies, hoping to land a contract.
Born in Morganfield, KY, Kassie first got interested in acting in a high school speech class. Then she attended Indiana University and completed her studies in theatre at UCLA.
After getting a few small TV roles and commercials, Kassie signed on with GL in 1986. When she quit and headed to California with Richard, she admits it was rough finding work, but never regretted her decision to move there.
“You have to go with your gut feeling and my gut was telling me it was time to try other things , and I did,” Kassie says. “I had a great time, and I thought: If I’m going to be unemployed, I’d rather be unemployed in California where I can go out and play golf!” she laughs.
During her two years on the West Coast, Kassie stayed busy. “I did an episode of Timetrax, which aired in November, and an episode of Melrose Place which was scheduled to air sometime in December or January. Then I’ve got an episode of Baywatch airing in February.”
When the part of Blair came up on OLTL, Kassie got caught in a whirlwind of frenetic activity: auditions in Los Angeles, a screen test in New York, and trying to fit it all into her frantic schedule.
“They gave me the weekend to think about it,” she says. “Everything was happening so fast, and I was trying to get through one job before moving on to another job. So I came to New York on Monday and did the screen test, and found out I got the role on Tuesday.”
“That was the week of Thanksgiving and I’d already planned to go home to Kentucky to see my family. I went home and just came straight from Kentucky to New York and began working. So it’s been a little overwhelming.”
Kassie, who speaks with a charming Southern accent, won’t make that part of Blair’s new image. “Of course I’m going to do it without the accent,” she tells us. “I did GL without it. Once you learn lines it’s much easier to control the accent. The hardest part is going to be working with all those Texas cowboys, CORD, ASA and CLINT with their accents.”
“I’m sure there are certain words that are going to come out only like Southerners say them, but I’ll do the best I can,” she concludes with a laugh.

MIRACULOUS LADYBUG SEASON 5 AIRDATES: DECEMBER ENGLISH DUBS MARATHON!
Hey y'all! It's certainly been awhile huh?
Im so sorry for my sudden disappearance! Finals quite literally murdered me but... i'm finally free!
Now a LOT of you know this by now, since im so late, but ABC ME (an australian network) is premiering three english dubs three days in a row, starting... 15 minutes from now! (source)
I know making a whole new airdates post for these three dates seems a little unnecessary, but I wanted to do something eye catching since i've been gone so far, and the other airdates post has gotten wayyyy too long.
As for other news, word on the street is no new episodes from Gloob until January, so... holiday hiatus! I'm on break until late January, so i'll for sure be able to report on any news on time/be more interactive in general.
Anyhow, I hope you guys (who don't mind watching stuff VERY out of order) enjoy these dubs! And for all asking; transmission is FINALLY being uploaded to the drive link! It takes a while to process, but it should be fully done by the end of the today :) enjoy!
PERFECTION ENGLISH DUB Airdate: December 23rd Time: 6:30 pm local Sydney time! Channel: ABC ME Language: English... duh
PROTECTION ENGLISH DUB Airdate: December 24th Time: 6:30 pm local Sydney time! Channel: ABC ME Language: Still English :p

Emmy nominations have been announced. I lost the livestream and missed many a category but I know Jason, PHIL!!, Declan Lowney, Nicky Austin, Juno, Hannah, Sam Richardson,Brett,Tom Howe, Christa Miller, Harriet Walter, Sarah Niles, Nancy Ann Baker (Dottie Lasso) and the show are nominated in writing and Best Comedy Series.
*Curious as to whether Leanne Best put herself up for her appearance as Jamie's mother. She certainly deserved a nomination.
With the writers' strike ongoing and a looming actors' strike, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences and their Emmys broadcast partner Fox are looking to postpone the event. However, both entities have different dates in mind. The Academy wants it in November, whereas Fox is pushing for January.
If it goes to January the airdate would likely be January 21st as right now (despite not having a broadcast partner), the Golden Globes are slated for January 7th and the Critics Choice Awards on January 14th.
If the Emmys are pushed, there is no word on when the Creative Arts Emmys - which has been spread ridiculously over two weekends - will air.
Hopefully this will all be for nought as the studio execs are seeking mediation and hoping that would get them closer to a deal.
Yesterday, the Hollywood Critics Association released their nominations and TED LASSO seven nominations. The 1st year of the series - which tied into the first year the HCA had a strictly streaming category -, the show received eight nominations, garnering 4 wins. Last year TED LASSO received 11 nominations and garnered 2 wins. So seven isn't too bad. Shockingly, it didn't get a nomination for Best Writing, but Brett Goldstein did for the pilot for SHRINKING.
Hnnah Waddingham managed two nominations herself: a nomination for her role in TOM JONES
Where she is up against her pal Lena Headey;
and Best Supporting Actress for TED LASSO.
I love how the cast wants awards to finally recognize Phil.
-Another Greyhound has seen Toheeb Jimoh's ROMEO AND JULIET.
Zava Dabba Doo!
-Coach Beard alone will win all the money, but with the exception murder and smoking crack, Ted will win a pretty penny too.

Hello it is possible I am blind, but in the age spreadsheet (which is incredible I could never), are there birthdays? I know some people have canon birthdays, but not many actually lmao, and I was wondering if you had a list? For anyone and everyone with a canon birthday
Haha, thanks!
Any known birthdays - and there are actually quite a few, plus more that can be put in approximate ranges thanks to airdates - are included in the chart!
(For reference, the chart in question and several related ones can be found via this currently pinned post of mine.)
In the cell with any given characters name, if they have any other names (by way of having changed them for any reason such as marriage, amnesia, and in at least one case ‘adoption’), along with their Rider Names, they’re noted in a ‘note’.
You can see these on desktop by clicking on the cell, and it should appear next to it.
(I very heavily recommend against using mobile to view the age chart, or the order charts, because they are very large and unwieldy in a narrow format. Plus, it’s harder to interact with the notes on mobile, since it involves long-pressing the cell.)
In any case, those notes also feature known birthdays! There are surprisingly a lot of them - many of which are gleaned from things like drivers licenses and profiles shown on screen.
Hope this helps, and thanks again!

Doesnt that reflect the nature of some people who react differently while under an avatar?
But then I remember him saying that he does this to train his rangers.
Yeah, a lot of people act differently when they're behind a mask or otherwise anonymous, but with Taro it's like flipping a switch to going absolutely ham.
Yes, he's able to be kick-ass when he's in civilian mode, but he has explicitly said he 'does not hit people'... and yet comes out fists, swords, and gun swinging the Second he transforms.
Well, okay, the first thing he does when he transforms is put on a show with a whole procession, somehow, but the second thing he does when he transforms is go completely ham.
Taro does the 'hardcore training' thing in civilian form, too - we saw that in the Taro & Tsuyoshi episode with the onigiri. But not the way he does as Don Momotaro.
I guess it's more the juxtaposition of exactly how different he becomes that's what's getting people.

Featuring: A realization, and a restoration.
At long last, after a solid three and a half years, I have finally managed to complete this story.
Thank you, so much, to everyone who has read this story all this time, those who have come in along the way, and those just joining in now.

My #1 post of 2022
So, I’ve been working on this for the last few weeks, and have finally finished it!
The pattern is from the wonderful folks at @shitpostsampler, and I love them for all the creative work they do to help folks make other creative work happen!
The original pattern uses violets for the lettering, and blue/greens for the border, but I decided to go with a more AO3-y color scheme, and swapped in red for text, grey for most of the border, and a really nice dark red-violet for the border accents. I’m really proud of how this turned out!
(Granted, now i have to figure out how to frame it, but that shouldn’t be too terribly hard given I have incredibly easy access to frames and mats at work lol)
Now, to reward myself for finishing this project with finishing another project, namely one of the fics that I procrastinated on in order to make this cross stitch calling myself out on procrastinating on working on my fics.

Well I was really hoping it would be back sooner than that but its still exciting to get an actual date. Also, this particular part piqued my interest: "He certainly will have Mrs. Hall’s unconditional support. But in Season 3, she may be ready to open up to affection beyond her work family…and cricket."
But the "beyond her work family" part makes me wonder...Gerald or someone new? My hope, of course, is that her starting to open up her heart in any way is a stepping stone to her opening her heart ultimately to Seigfried.

Hi!! ACGAS will air in September in UK. Then January in US.
Anyway, yes, I agree, I also think they were referring to Gerald. I don't like him, at all, but I am glad he's gonna have this role in Audrey's life. He will help her realise that she's ready to love again... but it won't be him.
I feel like she'll start questioning her role at Skeldale and her future, thinking about what the world could actually offer her. It's gonna be interesting. And Siegfried will probably freak out at the possibility of losing her.
I have no doubts that, in the end, she will choose Skeldale (and Siegfried, of course!).
Also, you might find these interesting 👇

Kinda wild that the announcement teaser for Fate/strange fake's upcoming TV special (airdate Dec 31) already has nearly 1.3 million plays (views?) on Twitter. It's been up for less than a month.
Not wild because it’s a Fate property, obviously. It’s not even really wild that F/sf is getting a TV special; we all knew an adaptation was inevitable, the question was only ‘how long would one be held off?’ Nah, It’s just wild to me that this TV special will be the first major animated adaptation of one of Narita’s works since the Durarara!!x2 ended in 2016.
<snipping speculation re: the TV special and shoving it below the cut, since this post was just supposed to be a “wow this is wild” post.>
Man, if F/sf Volume 8 does come out in, say, January or February... I’m going to think happy thoughts and not “Baccano! Volume 23 top 10 betrayals” thoughts. I’m just going to hope the F/sf TV special will spotlight Ryohgo Narita’s name for mainstream western audiences and boost LN sales. On the one hand, it’s ‘just’ a TV special’. On the other hand, it’s a special seemingly hyped up by Aniplex and, uh, y’know, part of the Fate franchise.
Wasn’t F/sf the number 1 or top 3 ‘most requested anime adaptation’ in a poll a few years ago? That might account for some of the hype. Whether the special will lead to a 2023 summer TV anime like other Fate Dec 31 TV specials have, or whether it will be its own strange thing, the sheer fact of it finally happening is a Fate/strange feeling indeed..
It’s been pointed out that some other Fate adaptations have started with December 31 TV specials (Episode 0s) and gone on to have summer TV series, e.g. Lord El-Melloi and Grand Carnival. So...should we speculate this pattern repeats with F/sf? I haven’t really consumed anything in the Fate franchise and have little interest in doing so beyond F/sf, which I’ve been slowly and sporadically reading, so I’m not exactly familiar with precedent.
For instance, Fate precedent re: adapting incomplete source material. The LNs are at seven volumes so far and (though I’m not caught up yet) in the thick of the plot, and I’m not sure how a one- or two-cour anime would tackle adapting it. A two-cour anime would make more sense than one. Definitely not sure what a 24-minute TV special could accomplish, considering that F/sf is a bit like Baccano! with tons of stuff happening in one, two, three (etc.) days.
Maybe the TV special will be an hour long or something; that would make more sense. Aniplex announced it in a livestream, didn’t it? Hyped it up? Is it normal for Fate TV specials to get the amount of hype it feels like this one’s getting? Am I imagining the hype due to my Narita bias? A long TV special would warrant it. A long special is almost necessary if they’re planning to introduce characters with it, because the entirety of Volume 1 is character introductions and couldn’t possibly fit into a half hour.
Oh, hm, the special could feasibly function as some worldbuilding / backstory set up. I’m guessing that most if not all Fate stories review Fate’s conceit for hypothetical newcomers, which is what Narita helpfully semi-does in Volume 1 (thank God, since I’m essentially a newcomer). Narita’s twist on holy grail wars is new—I understand that pretty much every holy grail war in all the Fate derivates has gone awry / atypically since...the first series?—the setting (Snowfield, Nevada) is new... so a TV special ‘orienting’ viewers makes sense.
Except it makes sense only if the plan is 100% to proceed with a 2023 anime, so, who knows. R.L. (from the PSA teaser) and Ayaka (character’s VA returning) are both Volume 2 material, so... either the TV special is going to blitz through Volume 1 and end with R.L. and Ayaka as a huge cliffhanger / hype teaser, or possibly the special won’t function as a story episode at all and just be a compilation of ‘hype’ moments. That sounds... I mean, wouldn’t that just be spoiler central? I don’t buy that.
Precedent, huh. Also, since A-1 Pictures is handling the F/sf TV special, is it probable that A-1 would then handle a proper TV adaptation? Based on El-Melloi and Grand C., probably. Oh, wait, I forgot A-1 did that 2019 F/sf PV for the light novels—so make that ‘almost definitely’.
One potentially major aspect is that the TV special will have a simuldub, which, from what I’ve read, will be the first 1:1 complete simuldub of a Fate adaptation? Major for us since a simuldub will cast the spotlight on F/sf and concomitantly Narita’s name that much wider, even if the dub is terrible. The sheer novelty alone of a Fate simuldub may be enough to attract viewers. Er, beyond the existing big Fate audience, of course. I’ve also read that a simuldub was greenlit because F/sf is set in America (oh, Narita, you wag), but that’s no guarantee the dub will be any good.
....it’s also wild (well, weird) that I’m thinking this actively about an anime TV special, since I’ve barely watched anime these past few years. Could be that I’m aging out of anime, though, let’s be real, when I was an undergrad I was already more discerning. Could be that I’ve been in mental limbo ever since spring 2020 with the ‘advent’ (you know what I mean) of the pandemic and its affects on my grad school.)
#Ryohgo Narita#Fate/strange fake#F/sf#Fate franchise#PSA#long post#It should boost LN sales no matter what right? Is it possible to overestimate the Fate IP?#It's because it's Fate that I'm assuming sales boost is all but assured even if A-1 Pictures screws up.#With A-1 Pictures the quality of a show really depends on staff; Sawano composing the F/sf score alone is huge given how popular he is.#I don't have strong feelings about his music but his name translates to hype for a lot of people.#Sorry; this was just supposed to be a those video statistics are wild and so is Narita's return to anime post#but it ended up being a dump of F/sf thoughts.#I don't have many of those I swear; I've read the F/sf manga and 'am reading' the LNs...incrementally...#Way more thoughts on what does this mean for Narita than on F/sf itself at the moment.#the length of the post is also strange considering WOW my indifference to Fate is measurable and my knowledge minimal.#I'm having a decently good time with F/sf since it's Narita (also big plus that it's standalone despite all the meta references)#and actually it has raised my interest in Fate a little so let that append or amend my 'indifferent' statement#but I just don't have an urge to get into the rest of Fate soon. Maybe someday.

I want so badly to believe the rumor that Stargirl is going to take Naomi's spot. Naomi is about 6 weeks away from finishing if they don't take any major breaks which means we should be getting Stargirl by the last week of April. But I feel like if that's true we would really need a trailer soon and we haven't even gotten a tease about that as yet.
Hey anon!
I agree that if Stargirl's going to premiere this spring, they really ought to air a trailer sooner rather than later (I really am fighting for my life checking their socials every hour on the hour for one, always being met with nothing but disappointment). And, judging from last season, where filming took place during roughly the same time period as this one's, it doesn't really make sense that Stargirl would end up airing so soon.
BUT! All's not lost! Of course the rumor originates from Shawn McBee, who is a graphic artist on Stargirl and a host of the Stargirl Aftershow, and while he stated that he was just kind of guessing, he is involved ever so slightly in the production side of things, so his guess is ever-so-slightly better than that of the general public. But that's not really the reason why I have hope- that has to do with Naomi's timeline!
The first week of production for Naomi ended on August 27, 2021- while Stargirl season two was airing (between episodes three and four, to be exact). The first trailer for the series was released during DC Fandome, on October 16. That means that there was less than a two-month turnaround for the trailer to be put together. Granted, I'm sure DC wanted to put together something for their big event, so I don't think that Stargirl not having a trailer out in December means anything one way or another.
Pressing further, the Naomi trailer didn't come with a premiere date- it just vaguely indicated that the show would air in 2022. The date wouldn't be set until November 5 (admittedly, not that much later), for January 11, 21 weeks after production had started. I don't follow Naomi nearly as closely as I do Stargirl, so I don't know when production wrapped on the season, but Stargirl is currently in week 23 of production (filming-wise). I believe that Stargirl has a slightly higher budget than Naomi does, or at least spend more time with their special effects, as in my personal opinion, Stargirl's effects look cleaner than Naomi's, so I would believe that post-production will also take longer than Naomi's initially did.
Before we turn to speculation about Stargirl's airdate, though, let's examine a few more key Naomi dates. The show's poster was revealed on December 14, less than a month before the show was set to air. Cast talking heads were posted the week(s) leading up to the series premiere (typical of most if not all CW productions), on a daily basis. And Naomi's extended second trailer premiered as a YouTube exclusive on January 9, a mere TWO DAYS before the show was set to premiere.
So, what does that mean for Stargirl? Well, number one, there is no chance that season three will premiere before Naomi's season ends (a give-in). The CW likes pairing up Stargirl with the Super family of shows (Supergirl or Superman and Lois), and there was no indication of a night change, so under the assumption that there are no more episode breaks for Naomi, at earliest that gives Frenemies a premiere date of May 3.
If we were to follow the Naomi timeline completely, we'd get a trailer three months out before the season premiere, a date two months out, a poster a month out, and a potential second trailer very shortly before the season is set to air (with cast interviews in the two or so weeks before the premiere date). Now, obviously, if the season was going to premiere in May, going by this timeline, we'd have already gotten a teaser trailer by this date, but it's important to note that there's no major event that DC is participating in before May (at least that I'm aware of). And, looking at Stargirl's second season PR releases, we got the trailer on June 14 (roughly two months before the premiere), and the poster on July 14 (a month before)!
Now, of course, the elephant in the room for this theory comes in two parts. For one, the premiere date was released back on April 29, three and a half months ahead of the premiere. But even before then, on February 26, we got the tiniest snippet of season two footage. My rebuttal for that lies only on the fact that COVID hindered a lot of the CW's plans (pushing back their Fall 2020 shows to Winter 2021), and likewise, also pushed Stargirl back (from Spring 2021 to Summer 2021). However, since the cast had already filmed most of the season, to tide the general public over, the CW released promotional materials incredibly far in advance to compensate for it. The early renewal period also makes slightly more sense with this in mind, so the cast could film season three in time to make the Spring 2022 broadcasting block.
So-- the big question remains, are we two months out from the Stargirl season three premiere? Well...maybe??? If the CW wants to let Superman and Lois run its course, as well, before Stargirl returns, that would put the premiere at May 17. If they wanted a week's break in between the two series ending and starting, it's pushed back to May 24. If that's the case, we should theoretically get a trailer as early as this Friday, and a poster a mere month later. We wouldn't necessarily get a separate date announcement, but drawing that out over the course of three months rather than two would only be wasting time to fill up the CW's Spring 2022 broadcasting block.
Of course, this is all complete speculation! It's harder to judge when Stargirl will end up returning, mostly because it's not a fall-premiering, year-round show like a lot of the CW's other television properties. I'm almost counting on being proven wrong when this Friday comes and goes without a trailer, but until then, maybe the Stargirl fandom's combined manifestation can give us something this weekend!!!

One of my favorites. For the flirting...
...the calling of the bluff, then the negotiating a time and place...
...and finally, for the sweet, hopeful note in Richard's voice when speaking of "possibilities." (It pulled me over to full-fledged shipping.)

"Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp"
Season 3, Episode 30
First US Airdate: November 29, 1989 First BBC UK broadcast: January 13, 1992
The Turtles reunite with the Punk Frogs to battle a mutated alligator.
"Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp" is the thirtieth episode of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles season three. This story is brought to us by Michael Reaves and is effectively a sequel to his season two episode "Invasion of the Punk Frogs".
This episode opens with the Turtles looking at a photo album of their adventures. I don't know who took the pictures since at least a few are of them fighting bad guys but fine, I'm gonna roll with it. We then segue into "remember the Punk Frogs?"
In a flashback, we see a shot of a kid holding the frogs. You might think "oh, it's a flashback to show how they mutated" but no, it's just a single shot of a kid holding frogs.
We jump to events unfolding in the Florida Everglades, and you might also think this guy who looks and sounds like Leatherhead comes into contact with an alligator and becomes a mutant. But no, the reverse is true, the alligator walks out of the swamp after diving at the man, and is now mutated. Which definitely raises some questions...
After the dissolve Leatherhead is chasing the Punk Frogs. Only now he has the man's clothes too. This means that either a) He attacked the man again - possibly ATE HIM - and took his clothes, or b) Mutagen gives you the dress sense of the person you were in contact with I really hope it's option b.
The Frogs decide to stand and fight, but the mutant gator can handle everything they throw at him, easily breaking free of a net and using it to capture the group. Later, the Frogs are shown working as Leatherhead’s servants.
vimeo
I was dreading this episode initially because my recollection of Leatherhead was just him running "ah gah-rawn-tee" into the ground, but now I have to take it back. Jim Cummings is actually fantastic here, and it quickly becomes clear he’s going to steal the show.
The Frogs use a Turtlecom to contact the Turtles back in New York and request their help (those devices must have incredible range). Plot contrivances strike to get the Turtles from New York to Florida – where April and Irma just happen to be on vacation - which Leonardo embraces but even within the show itself everyone else is rolling their eyes.
Krang is in on all these events somehow and orders the other three bad guys to go to Florida and recruit Leatherhead. Shredder sarcastically remarks in full view of Rocksteady and Bebop that this is “just what we need – more of them.” This episode has a stand-in voicing Shreds instead of James Avery, and is a much more grating watch as a result.
The Turtles meet April and Irma at a holiday resort. When Irma hears there are mutant frogs, she simply goes "nope" and runs away. That's her entire contribution to this episode.
Mere seconds later, we’re following the Turtles and April as they wander through the wilderness and are captured in a net by Leatherhead. The Punk Frogs intervene to free their friends, and the two groups work together to hoist the alligator up a tree.
Shredder and his mutants track the Turtles and Frogs, who are traversing the countryside with a captured Leatherhead in tow. When the group decide to take a break, the alligator tricks them into standing in quicksand. Our heroes retaliate by pulling him in with them.
After the commercial break, Shredder intervenes to save Leatherhead and after the two form an alliance they walk off, leaving the others to fend for themselves. Napoleon is able to attach his whip to a nearby tree branch, providing the Frogs, Turtles and April with a means of escape.
Later, the Turtles find a pool of water and Michaelangelo goes for a swim. Thanks to some mutagen the pool has become a sort of fountain of youth, and after exposure to the water he becomes energised, going full "I can't get over Ovaltine".
April is keen to enter the pool after discovering its de-aging properties, but Donatello warns her they don’t know what effect it would have on humans. She laments that she’s “doomed to be a decrepit 28-year-old hag.” Given that her action figure bio says she's 25, I don't know whether to read this as she's 28 now or that she's dreading the idea that one day she'll be 28. Either way, from my perspective now in my forties, the idea of feeling past it while still in your twenties seems bonkers.
The villains also discover the magical pool, and Shredder scoffs at Leatherhead's insistence it's full of "voodoo magic". Need I remind you this is the same man who revived the spirit of the Foot Clan's founder last episode, you'd think he'd be a bit more open-minded.
Another battle unfolds between Shredder’s group and our heroes. After one of the Frogs deploys a smoke bomb, Shredder falls back into the contaminated water and rapidly de-ages, becoming a baby.
Leatherhead takes charge, grabbing a laser rifle and taking aim at the Turtles. Donatello disarms him though, sending the gun flying. And when I say “flying”, I mean it actually appears to float off, doing aerial loops more fitting for a seagull than for a gun that just got knocked out of someone’s hands. The gun somehow fires when it collides with a nearby dam, blowing it up and unleashing a huge wave of water. Rocksteady, Bebop and baby Shredder are flushed back down the hole that the transport module emerged from, sending them back to the Technodrome.
The Turtles, Frogs and April are hanging out in a tree as the water drains away. Leatherhead vows to return, then just stomps off. Despite Michaelangelo proclaiming they "hung him out to dry", there's absolutely nothing preventing him from coming back and picking on the Frogs again once the Turtles are gone. If anything, now he's only going to be angrier.
vimeo
We get some more comedy with the real stars of the show to round things out. Gotta say I’m impressed that baby Shredder was flushed downstream to the centre of the Earth and is somehow still alive.
"Leatherhead: Terror of the Swamp" is an oddly-paced outing that has to rush through the initial flashbacks and any kind of explanation of who the Punk Frogs are, as well as Leatherhead’s origin as it hurriedly tries to get the Turtles to the point where they can come into conflict with this new villain. Once all the players are in place, we get the usual tired swamp set-pieces like quicksand and net traps that you’ll see in any given cartoon that adopts this setting. The Frogs are as dull and unremarkable as they were in their first outing; if anything, they fare far worse here, as the debuting Leatherhead is far more entertaining than all four of them put together.
Like Rat King and Casey Jones before him, Leatherhead is yet another character introduced to the series in this third season after originally appearing in the Mirage comics (all three were also introduced to the action figure line in the same year as their TV debuts). Leatherhead made his initial comic appearance in “Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” #6, published in August 1988.
youtube
The cartoon version of Leatherhead appears to borrow heavily from cooking personality Justin Wilson, who was appearing in TV commercials for Cajun Spice flavoured Ruffles around the time this episode would have been in production, and who was famous for his catchphrase “I gar-on-tee!” Although Leatherhead only says it sparingly here, it’ll be uttered a great deal more often in his next appearance a few episodes from now.
NEXT TIME: Our resident party dude decides to leave forever over a minor slight in “Michaelangelo’s Birthday”. Get ready, because this show about giant talking Turtles who fight a talking brain is about to get ridiculous.

Hi Aly Is there no Blacklist this fri? I read somewhere they won't be back till late jan 2021..why so late haitus didnt they just start couple of weeks ago?
Hi anon, that’s correct. Unfortunately the show doesn’t return until January 22. From what the writers’ room said on Twitter, they were already scrambling to finish post-production on Episode 8x02 in time to get it ready for air, so while we all hoped for at least one more episode before the holidays, I think they needed the additional time. They are still filming so by the time the show returns in late January they should be well ahead of airdate!

New Years in Sailor Moon
Happy New Year, everybody!
I thought I might take this time to talk about how we briefly saw New Years was celebrated in Sailor Moon, which turned into a crash course in Japanese/Shinto New Years traditions. Plenty of pictures and links below!
New Years (o-shougatsu) was celebrated most visibly in the live action series, where we got to see the girls - Usagi, Ami, Rei, and Makoto, since Minako hadn’t yet joined up with them - celebrating in a very traditional sense in Act 14; only they didn’t actually get to celebrate on the “real” New Years, because as we saw in the previous episode, Rei, a dedicated Shinto priestess, was busy getting Hikawa Shrine ready for the many people who would be visiting.
Hatsumode is the first visit to a Shinto shrine of the new year, a tradition which many Japanese families observe. Larger shrines will even organise festivals around the event, but even smaller shrines like Hikawa will see a massive bump in visitors - which means a sharp increase in sales, too, which requires extra work, so Makoto and Ami volunteered to help.
... Even if they weren’t too happy when Usagi failed to show up as promised.
Ami is preparing wooden ofuda wrapped in protective paper. Most Sailor Moon fans are already familiar with the concept of ofuda, as Rei uses paper ones to ward off Youma and other monsters, but these are destined for people’s homes.
Ofuda are basically charms of protection - hence why Rei uses them to guard against monsters who mean to cause harm - and these wooden ones are to be placed above doorways, near significant objects, or housed within special kamidana altars. They can be purchased year-round but are typically “renewed” once a year, so it’s natural Rei is expecting to sell a lot.
Makoto is helping to braid shimenawa, sacred cords of rice straw/hemp rope that are either wrapped around or hung over the entrance of a space that is deemed sacred/pure. This can mean a building, such as Hikawa Shrine itself, or an individual object liable to house a spirit, such as a sacred tree or rock. These ones are quite large, so they’re probably going to be used to decorate the shrine, but smaller shimenawa can be used to decorate a household shrine/altar, too.
On the table we can see two more popular Shinto shrine souvenirs. The first is ema, wooden plaques that you write your wish/dreams/hopes/goals on and hang at a shrine along with everyone else’s plaques, creating a wall of wishes. These are popular year-round, but the influx of visitors means an influx of ema, too.
Ema played a more significant role in Act 8, where Usagi sends Makoto to Hikawa Shrine to hang her plaque for her (as a ruse to get her and Rei to make up after an argument).
Left: The blank side of the plaque on which Usagi has written her wish (to win the NakoNako mascot plush toy). Middle: The back of the plaque, mass-printed with a generic design, in this case sheep since November 2003 (the original airdate) was in the Year of the Sheep/Goat/Ram. Right: Rei stands before a wall of ema other shrine visitors have tied up.
If you were wondering whether Usagi’s little illustration of a cartoon character is normal or not - it very much is, and only getting more normal. “Ita-ema,” in the same vein as ita-bags and ita-cars, are ema that have been decorated with various anime characters. It’s become so popular that even officially branded anime ema are being released, including, for the first time, an official Rei Hino/Sailor Mars ema available at the Sailor Moon Store in time for 2020.
Source: http://sailormoon-official.com/store/post_852.php
The last souvenir is a pile of hamaya, lit. “demon-destroying arrows.” These good luck charms come from the tale of Yorimasu Minamoto vanquishing a demon that threatened the Emperor - his bow and his arrows were declared sacred, and ever since, bows and arrows have been thought to frighten off evil spirits. Hamaya are popular souvenirs to give to children, traditionally boys, but increasingly so with girls.
The bow & arrow’s connection with demon-slaying and sanctity is probably why Sailor Mars herself uses a flaming bow & arrow to attack after her Super power-up.
In addition, Rei sold plenty of omamori, the small, portable, cloth versions of the larger ofuda charms. Again, most Sailor Moon fans are familiar with the concept of these small charms, as they were a plot point in Rei’s introductory episode of the classic Anime.
Left: Rei buried under an avalanche of dropped omamori in PGSM. Middle: The inauspicious omamori in the classic Anime. Right: Real life omamori from one of the Hikawa Shrines (different spelling, same pronunciation) in Tokyo that inspired Sailor Moon’s Hikawa Shrine.
There are a variety of different omamori in different sizes, shapes, and colours intended to offer the bearer protection against different concerns. There are omamori for love, relationships, and good luck with exams, as well as plenty for general protection. Again, these are available and popular year-round, but would make cheap and eye-catching souvenirs for the new Shrine visitors. It’s considered very bad luck to attempt to open up an omamori and look inside, even though they appear as small cloth bags.
Another tradition for those visiting a shrine on New Years is to get your fortune told by a randomly-picked slip of paper, an omikuji. If you don’t like the fortune you get, you can try and undo its bad luck by tying it around the branches of a pine tree or nearby wall of other bad fortunes. The Japanese word for pine tree, matsu, sounds the same as “to wait”, so by tying your fortune to a pine tree, you’re telling the fortune to wait there instead of following you. Though it wasn’t at New Years, Rei herself demonstrated this practice when she drew a bad fortune in episode 90 of the classic Anime.
So that’s the New Years Hikawa Shrine prep - phew! But how did the girls celebrate “New Years” together?
They all got together in their secret hideout under Crown Karaoke for snacks, drinks, and a good old-fashioned party!
The girls all wore perfectly colour-coordinated kimono, which are very traditionally worn when visiting a Shrine for hatsumode.
They decorated the room with two kadomatsu, arrangements of pine and bamboo cuttings placed in pairs that attract and provide temporary housing to spirits and invite good fortune, along with more hamaya and a kite, which are often flown for fun (“tako-age”) around New Years.
Hanging in the centre of their screen is a shimekazari, a decoration utilising a smaller shimenawa sacred rope that guards against evil spirits just like the larger version. It’s adorned with various items of good luck, including a lobster (symbolising longevity due to its impressive lifespan), pine needles (longevity again, since they’re evergreens), and a daidai citrus fruit (“dai dai” sounds similar to “from generation to generation”, again implying longterm success), flanked by two zig-zagged shide streamers.
They also have a kagami mochi display, two round mochi rice cakes sitting on top of each other on a sanpou stand, adorned with leaves and dried persimmons. Normally, kagami mochi are topped with a daidai (real or fake) or a more-widely-available mikan, but their kagami mochi is topped with... Luna!
On the wall we can see that each girl has written a kakizome - lit. “first writing” - where people write kanji, phrases, or poetry which they feel are lucky. The scrolls are then traditionally burned on January 14th. They might’ve been told to make some kakizome as part of their Winter holiday homework, but as this is a “fake” New Years celebrated around Feburary, these might not be the same ones.
It’s an interesting snippet of characterisation to see what kanji/phrase/poetry each character considers personally auspicious! From the left:
Rei: 悪霊退散 (Akuryou Taisan, “Foul Spirit Begone”)
No surprises here - this is the phrase Rei chants when she uses her paper ofuda to disperse an evil spirit, and to attack Youma once transforming into Sailor Mars. As you can tell from her handwriting, she’s very used to writing out these kanji! It’s easy to understand why she might feel that this was her lucky phrase.
Makoto: 質実剛健 (Jitsu Jitsu Gou Ken, lit. “Temperament, Sincerity, Health”)
This is an example of Chinese poetry in kakizome. Makoto’s gone for an older phrase, but you can understand why it would resonate with her, as her name also translates to “sincerity”. The literal meaning of the phrase is somewhat abstract, but could be translated into something like “May You Be of Level Head and Good Health”. It’s also more of a masculine phrase, fitting for the ultra-tomboyish Makoto in PGSM.
Ami: 友達 (Tomodachi, “Friends”)
Ami has gone for a singular kanji/word rather than a whole phrase, and it makes sense why she’s picked this one. Her character arc so far has revolved around her making friends who don’t just want to use her for her connections/grades, and learning how to navigate sincere “friendships” for the first time in her life. The word obviously carries a lot of weight for her without needing to be part of a longer phrase.
Usagi: 初日の出 (Hatsuhi no De, lit. “First Sunrise of the Year”)
Witnessing the first sunrise of the new year is very commonly/popularly observed in Japan. Legend goes that the God of New Years, Toshigami, comes out with the first sunrise of the new year, and that if you make a wish during the sunrise it will come true in the following year. It’s very befitting of Usagi that this optimistic and wishful tradition would be what sticks out to her the most!
Also, you may have noticed that Usagi’s handwriting is somewhat different from the others - while kakizome are typically written in very traditional calligraphy, Usagi is obviously far too dedicated to following the “cutesy writing” trend (marui ji, lit. “round letters”), as indicated by her excessively rounded shapes (compare the sharp corners of Makoto’s 質 vs. Usagi’s rounded 日) and little heart doodles. Cute to the core!
And so what did they do after hanging up all of these traditional, thoughtful New Years decorations...?
Pulled it all down to have a killer karaoke party, obviously!
After all’s said and done, New Years in Japan is still a time to have fun with and connect to your loved ones. While New Years in other countries is considered a prime time to go on a date, especially to have someone to kiss at midnight, New Years in Japan is a time for friends and family (interestingly, Christmas has become something of a “date event” in Japan instead).
So there you have it! Maybe you’ve already learned something new this early in the new year!
🎊 🎉 Happy New Year! 🎉 🎊
🎊 🎉 Akemashite Omedetou! 🎉 🎊

Hey Gra is there official air date for s03?
Hi nonnie!
No, there’s no official S3 airdate yet, and it’ll be a while until we get one.
Covid has messed with TV show schedules. Filming everywhere started much later than usual, and most fall shows that normally would've started airing new seasons around September or October 2020, will premiere in January or February 2021. And these shows will likely air all their new episodes before RNM gets a time slot.
Many of the fall shows usually have episode counts of 20-24 episodes/season, I assume that some, if not most (maybe even all) of them won’t produce that many episodes this year, meaning that around May or June, at least some of these shows should be finished airing their new seasons, and a time slot for RNM should become available eventually.
RNM is scheduled to film until April 2021, and I don’t expect the show to return until June 2021 at the earliest (May would be nice, but I won’t get my hopes up). But that’s me guessing, not knowing, obviously.
Either way, I don’t expect The CW to release an official airdate until next year (around March/April would be my guess), and we won’t get any promo (including a trailer and promo pics for 3x01) until about 2 weeks prior to the S3 premiere.
If we’re (very) lucky, maybe RNM will be part of the 2021 TCA (Television Critics Association) winter tour - which will in all likelihood be virtual. Tour dates haven’t been announced yet, so I don’t know when they’ll take place, but maybe The CW’ll consider adding RNM and we’ll get some interviews out of it? FINGERS CROSSED!

‘Supernatural’ season 15, episode 15 screener secrets: We’re ‘Highway to Heaven’-ing this bitch
[everything is from this Hypable article]
This week on Supernatural, Amara returns and are angels solving people crimes now? Hypable previewed Supernatural season 15, episode 15 “Gimme Shelter,” so read on to find out more.
After a sweet and fun return to ease us back into the world of Supernatural last week, things are heating up pretty dramatically – I knew there wouldn’t be much more time for messing around.
“Gimme Shelter” sees Supernatural dip its feet into what the Winchesters currently believe is their big plan – eliminating Chuck by also taking down Amara, resulting in what they believe will be a cosmic-being-free balanced world. But first, they have to find her. Sam and Dean get a pretty good lead on her location, which results in a very interesting conversation between Amara and the boys – especially with her most favoritest Dean, of course.
Meanwhile, Castiel is persuaded into taking Jack to investigate a nearby case in Missouri – which all three adults suspect is probably the work of a human criminal – for the sake of humoring Jack and keeping him both busy and supervised. On the way home, they have a very interesting conversation of their own.
Spoiler Warning: This article contains generalized spoilers for Supernatural season 15 episode 15, “Gimme Shelter.” If you do not wish to be spoiled at all, do not read this article in advance of the airdate.
The official synopsis for Supernatural season 15, episode 15 reads:
MATT COHEN DIRECTS — Castiel (Misha Collins) and Jack (Alexander Calvert) work a case involving members of a local church. Meanwhile, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) go off in search of Amara (guest star Emily Swallow). Matt Cohen directed the episode written by Davy Perez (#1515). Original airdate 10/15/2020.
If you want to know what to expect from this week’s Supernatural, here’s 10 teasers plus 15 single word clues from our advance viewing of Supernatural season 15, episode 15 “Gimme Shelter.”
‘Supernatural’ season 15, [10] episode 15 screener secrets
1️⃣ During the filming of this episode (27 January – 5 February) Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles both spent much of the week at home with their families in Austin, a detail which was made clear on their and their wives’ public social media accounts – possibly the result of scheduled time off as they’ve mentioned occasionally requesting? The result is that the episode is weighted much more towards Cas, Jack and the murder investigation they’re chasing than towards Sam and Dean, but on the flip side, the Sam and Dean arc is more crucial to the long game of the show, so what it lacks in minutes, it makes up for in impact.
2️⃣ However, the episode still begins and ends in a grounded family group way, at home in the Bunker – one of those “we know we should be doing this together but there are Reasons we have to split up” situations. This detail, in my opinion, really speaks to the motivation of the creative team towards honoring the four leads as parts of a whole – in earlier days, this kind of episode would have been two entirely non-touching threads. This one is, if not a tapestry, at very least a braid – tied up together at both ends, and intertwined in the middle.
3️⃣ You might have seen pictures or ominous trailer footage of Castiel and Jack digging a hole at the crossroads. We all know what that means! However, don’t worry. They simply want to talk – and the demon they summon has some really interesting – and dare I say positive? – news about the state of Hell under Her Most Gracious Majesty Queen Rowena. Let’s just say the demon is actually pretty friendly… and extremely bored.
4️⃣ The two main guest stars on Cas and Jack’s side of the episode are both actors who have been briefly featured on the show before, in a couple of pretty famous episodes – one from season 2 and one from season 5. I don’t think there’s meant to be any meta or Easter Egg element to this, just the usual Vancouver casting industry cycle (see the ‘Weren’t You In Another Episode‘ reference page on the SuperWiki) but one of them is one of those cute “I appeared on Supernatural as a child and now I’m here as an adult” situations, and the other, well… the original character’s very name has become the stuff of Supernatural legend, and if I were in charge of this episode I would have put the actor in a particular piece of footwear and made sure we got a shot of it, just for kicks.
5️⃣ Castiel steps into a prayer circle when the church group members are meant to give a testimony – presumably of their journey so far and their relationship with faith. That’s what Cas chooses to share, at least – in a non-specific, humanized way – and fans of the character will be moved to hear the ways he verbalizes his own growth.
6️⃣ Speaking of growth, some of Dean’s is spelled out for him in the most miraculous way by Amara. After Sam and Dean meet up with her and have a conversation about Chuck that’s ultimately a bit of a non-starter, Dean returns to ask her another, more personal question. Her response gave me legitimate chills. It’s a very weighty mic drop and the combination of the level of impact and the level of clarity (it’s entirely airtight, no room for interpretation) feels like the culmination of all the self-actualization work the show has been doing on Dean in the last four years. (I wish I could tell you Sam got a big special moment like this in the episode, but he doesn’t. Amara’s return was always going to be Dean’s thing.) Amara’s speech to Dean… it doesn’t feel isolated, like the idea of it was invented just for this episode. It feels more like concrete evidence of what the show has been trying to prove for ages. And the funny thing is, Amara is the anti-Chuck, right, and all season, we’ve learned about the version of the story Chuck thinks is good, and we’ve been told to root against that. Chuck’s version of Supernatural isn’t how the writers really feel. But I think Amara’s might be. Dean has obviously struggled to see what she tells him, all in one piece, but here it is – this was the point, laid out on the table, from the entity behind the curtain – both onscreen and off. Amara knew what she was doing, and so did the writers. This was always, always the point.
7️⃣ Even before this massive scene, Amara’s return is just great. Emily Swallow does such an incredible job with this character – she really is the anti-Chuck even without the whole writer comparison. Swallow imbues this character with such an incredible peace and stillness in comparison to Chuck’s histrionics – this was true in the way she spoke and behaved even in season 11, but this Amara also feels kindness and patience and tolerance. She radiates power, even when she’s also slightly goofy. There’s no fight, there’s no antagonism, but the boys in her presence are like little fish in a vast ocean – they quickly realise they have no real control in this conversation. The way that we leave her indicates she’ll be back and has more to say or do, and what she shared during her reunion with Sam and Dean makes me really curious about the role she’s due to play in the show’s endgame.
8️⃣ I’m not very religious but I really like the version of a church group or ‘faith-based community,’ as they say, featured in “Gimme Shelter.” Supernatural has a shaky history in terms of how the show portrays people in-universe who believe. Sometimes they’re treated like a joke, or stupid, or dangerous, or hypocrites, but occasionally civilian acts of faith are shown as great and powerful things, even in a world where we know that what they believe in isn’t strictly accurate. That concept became an even bigger question mark for me when we got the reveal that Judeo-Christian God is not only absent, but our actual villain. However, this was a really nice look at why faith can still be a framework for a good way of life – loving thy neighbor – for some people, no matter the truth about Chuck. The episode also features a callback to writer Davy Perez’ very first Supernatural episode “American Nightmare” in terms of the way that some people have weaponized faith and religion to the detriment and harm of others or even themselves, but this factor does not negate the positive point mentioned above.
9️⃣ Supernatural alum and newly minted director Matt Cohen really got the full old-school Supernatural episode experience when it comes to leaning into the spooky horror element. The murderous case-of-the week featured in this episode is heavy and lingering on the gore and even contains a little bit of a jump scare, so view responsibly.
🔟 So, um, you know that line, in this week’s teaser trailer? The line that a lot of people are freaking out about because it seems to pertain to something important that we know about Cas’ fate that Dean and Sam aren’t aware of? Yeah, it is 100% absolutely not about that at all. It is about something super important, but it’s not that. It’s also the last line of the episode, but trust me – it’s not a cliffhanger and it’s not a red herring and it’s not a twist. The information is gleaned within the episode and you’ll know exactly what Cas is telling Dean about after seeing it – narratively, that’s the reason it isn’t in the episode, because the show clearly assumes you’ll get the picture and can skip a rehash of information. But what you were probably expecting – maybe even hoping for – it’s not that. You’re gonna have to hang on for that one.
Finally, have 15 random yet significant words from this week’s episode without any context whatsoever: Gaia, Ronald, mother, pierogies, cats, philosophy, target, blind, permission, lockdown, Kool-aid, buffet, gift, trial, choice.
‘Supernatural’ airs Thursday at 8/7c on The CW

Wishful Thinking
The official translation of One Piece Chapter 978 has Kin’emon saying:
“MY JUTSU”
and I am reminded of that iconic line of Tobirama’s from the Naruto Shippuden anime.
Knowing that Kin’emon has the same voice actor/seiyuu as Senju Tobirama gives me that added anticipation to watch the current One Piece arc.
So I look forward to Kin’emon saying this line when this chapter gets adapted to the One Piece anime.
What, at the pace the anime is going, it is only going take at least 2-3 years, no biggie. (I die inside)
Wild, wishful prediction: Studio Pierrot is respectfully waiting for Horiuchi Ken’yuu to complete his Kin’emon role in One Piece with Toei Animation, before bringing him back as Senju Tobirama in possible Naruto/Boruto prequel/sequel anime arcs.
Hmm... or is it KISHI the one respectfully waiting for ODA to return him?
Horiuchi Ken’yuu as Kin’emon made his anime debut on January 13, 2013 in episode 580 (whoa, more than 400 episodes ago).
For comparison, Horiuchi-san started his reprisal of Senju Tobirama in Naruto Shippuden Episode 366 “The All Knowing”, airdate on June 19th, 2014; the character’s final lines were in Episode 475 “The Valley of the End”, airdate on September 8th, 2016. He continued to do small voice-over work for Tendo Pain and Yahiko as well for video games after that.
Meanwhile, Kin’emon’s role continues to present day, most recently in Episode 922 “A Tale of Chivalry! Zoro and Tonoyasu's Little Trip!”, aired on 16 Feb 2020.
Kin’emon has had an important role for a long while.
Add a few more years on top of this chapter’s anime adaptation, once Wano Country Arc concludes, Horiuchi-san may finally take a break from his Kin’emon role to free up his schedule, and will need to move on to other projects, right?
What better than coming back to the Naruto/Boruto series...? 😇
The question is: will the break from Kin’emon be for just a while, between One Piece arcs; or will it be indefinitely, via character death? (Nuuuuu). The end fate of Kin’emon’s role in One Piece is yet to be seen.
For Senju Tobirama to return to Boruto manga/anime somehow... I’m keeping my hopes up. Ridiculous as it may be.
FINGERS CROSSED, MAN Like, Bari Bari no Mi fingers crossed.
