Usually, I filter out or manually fix the madness of the machine.
Usually.
The image(s) above in this post were made using an autogenerated prompt and/or have not been modified/iterated extensively. As such, they do not meet the minimum expression threshold, and are in the public domain. .
Prompt: A comic book cover of the classic "Suzie" magazine from the 50s, featuring a young woman in black dress and hat standing on her feet wearing high heels with one leg resting on an open door to show off them as she holds up blue kneehigh boots next to a piano while two old women look at them en Wondering about what they see. The title reads "IF YOU seine superb like we know suFREE". A man dressed green trousers is looking around curiously

AI video identification
Okie, been checking through the more modern AI videos. Clicking on the more believable looking videos to let myself spot fakes sooner. Tip: Look at the rain. As ran trickles off an object the AI struggles with deciding its viscosity. Since many different things drip. It makes the rain look slimy.
Stopping my parents from watching AI videos has become a daily chore. And I get annoyed when they force my nieces to watch these things. They don't see anything wrong and have AI art in their house.

So I'm currently playing through nirvana initiative, after my recent dive into zero escape. I'd played the first somnium files a few years back, and remembering on it now and playing through NI with the knowledge of their previous work is great.
Both VLR and ZTD struggled in making 3d animation work in their games, probably due to the Devs figuring it out bit by bit. VLR got away with it by using the same animation basis as was done in 999, but ZTD is where things go awry - not to say it isn't accidentally hilarious or sometimes great with what they had there.
The somnium file games however are a lot better in this regard. Both I assume had the budget for motion capture, which works surprisingly well for the cutscenes.
I think they also manage to capture the horror/comedy that can arise from uncanny animation, most notably in the talking heads during dialogue. For context, these two games both have the current character's half bust in the corner next to their text box when talking, with some stuff mouth flap. Each line usually only has the character's face stay on one emotion, holding perfectly still until you move to the next line.
These held faces work great for selling a punchline, but also for when the mood needs to shift suddenly and you have a character staring straight into your soul in the corner of your screen.

Trying to get that Hanna Barbera Jank in Midjourney.
And getting whole other kinds of jank instead.
MJ is very good at making things look, well, good. The highly stylized and the highly crappy alike are difficult for it to parse, so getting 1960s TV animation is an uphill battle.
It's a work in progress.

That said, this guy's inkblot test face had to be shared.

another ai art update: i’m so pissed off. i saw a pic of someone with pearls on their cheek, except no i didn’t. it was ai generated. i saw that pic and went, oh. so district 4 coded. looked at the caption and saw the hashtags and went oh. this isn’t actually real. woe is me. woe is us. so in retaliation i’ve made an johanna/annie illustration (you can tell they’re in love bc there’s a heart)

In the future, I may not be posting things directly here. I have to double check ToS on individual WordPress sites, but I might be doing mostly linked to content. So if I just start posting a lot of links, it's just me trusting Tumblr to the degree that I refuse to host anything here.
I WordPress (which I know is owned by the same company) has the same AI data selling jank I'm going to be crawling the Internet to find a free host that doesn't do that. And if I can't... Well. Fuck me, I guess.

The more I look at this image the more flaws I see throughout it.
The video was auto generated by YouTube four months ago. So that’s a thing now I guess :/.

Lol that last bit, to me it's like "the AI has an alcoholic father". I can't get rid of the mental image of a tech guy sitting there with Budweiser bottles all over his desk, pushing past 2 AM to make the AI a semi functional program, and he constantly swears at it in an unintelligible drunken fit because it won't do as he expects it to (the bane of every programmer), then it's morning, and he swears at it one last time and that he's disappointed in his halfassed creation as he submits it for review before passing out on the carpet.

Wonka was Just Joking About What he was Going to do With the Black Cloud
And other Jank: A Midjourney Secret Horse preserve.
Tumblr media
I've mentioned Midjourney's /describe feature on more than one occasion. It's basically a Midjourney specific clip-interrogator, where you feed it a picture and it spits out four prompts that, in theory, produced something along the lines of what you presented.
Thing is, /describe never really worked.
And that's why I love it. I enjoyed taking random images, /describing them, and then combining the results, which were like this (base image is the wonka meme template above):
1️⃣ wonka was just joking about what he was going to do with the black cloud, in the style of light purple and light orange, stylish costume design, bronzepunk 2️⃣ a man in a purple shirt and hat smiling at a computer screen, in the style of fanciful costume design, whirly, blink-and-you-miss-it detail, gritty elegance, celebrity and pop culture references, glorious, polka dot madness 3️⃣ a beautiful young man who pretends to be waldorf, in the style of purple and bronze, polka dot madness, contemporary candy-coated, clowncore 4️⃣ can you name the top 10 funniest quotes ever?, in the style of light purple and gold, movie still, polka dot madness, groovy, handsome, neo-victorian, character
Beautiful madness across the board, and the results when run (clockwise from top left, 1, 2, 3, 4)-

-are like when Google Translate first hit the scene and it was dumb as rocks, so you could get fun stuff by looping text through multiple translations to get wacky stuff. Eventually all the translators got good enough that stopped working, and no one archived the stupid version.
Which brings us to now, as MJ has launched a better version of /describe. I'll do some posts on its capabilities and improvements soonish (it's brand new), but they told us a month ago it was coming, and I took action.
More than 54,000 prompts worth of action
I can't archive the /describe feature as it was, but I could build a stockpile of prompts before the system changed, and I did. About half of these are ones I /described myself, the other half were gleaned from Midjourney's public creation discords.
These are all fully machine-generated prompts, so they're public domain by definition. All shared on a google sheets file.
Caveats:
They are no longer associated with their base images.
They are organized alphabetically.
As above, what comes out does not always reflect what went in.
Not every prompt generated by Midjourney's bot will run on midjourney without editing as sometimes /describe makes prompts that trigger their prompt censor. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If anyone wants to make a text-diffusion AI that generates prompts using the above as a dataset, go for it. Feel free to show off your results in the reblogs as well.

This photoshopped version is far older than generative AI. The photoshop is a reference to that Beatles album cover of them crossing the road with a VW Beetle in the background where one of them is inexplicably barefoot. The number plate is also made to match.

I forget Google Drive 1. has a "landing page" website instead of asking you to log in first, and 2. talks about how its AI features make it faster. What features?? Something like the unreliable AI summaries you use? Or the broken-ass algorithms? Lmao
