I’ve had this in my mind for a while so now I give you

Outlander Pirate AU (feat. Makuu)

-This is definitely one of the Zootopia-esque au’s because who doesn’t love animal pirates?

-The hyenas and vultures are part of one big crew, with Janja as the Captain and Mzingo as his first mate

-Jasiri and Reirei both defied gender roles by being Captains of their crew. Reirei met Goigoi while captured on another ship and she rose to the top. She married Goigoi and her crew grew from there

-Jasiri is actually a privateer who works under newly crowned King Kion. She eventually convinces Janja’s crew to merge with hers and is known as “The Pirate Queen” by everyone else.

Janja agreed cuz he maaay or may not have a repressed crush on Jasiri but he’ll obviously take that to his watery grave

-Captain Kiburi formed a new pirate crew after he started a mutiny against his former captain, Makuu. Makuu, however, had seen it coming and was able to fend off Kiburi and his followers. His crew isn’t as big as the other pirate captains, but holy shit can they fight. They’ve killed more animals than the rest combined

-Kenge was found as a stowaway on Kiburi’s ship, with him against the world and turning to piracy for survival. The crocs wanted to kill him on sight, but Kenge had something they didn’t: venom. So when Tamka tried to attack after calling him “little”, he ferociously bit him and held him at knifepoint. It was then when Kiburi had a better idea: Why not put that anger and those fighting skills to good use? He’s now one of the crocs, being Kiburi’s new friend and best fighter. Everyone thinks they should be scared of the crocodiles when it’s really him you gotta worry about. Kiburi likes to use him as a threat. Either give them all the loot or they’ll sick Kenge on you

-Sumu is an interesting story. Kiburi’s crew found him while exploring a desert island. It’s unknown how he got there in the first place (he doesn’t like to talk about it), but he ultimately joins the crew as a cabin boy among Kenge’s suggestion. Kiburi thought nothing of it until he saw Sumu in action. Turns out he can fatally stab people so that’s fun.

-Ushari was once a great pirate, but after too many near death experiences, he decided to become a grumpy innkeeper with Shupavu and Njano as his employees. They usually act as bartenders who serve drinks to the guests.

-After Makuu started a mutiny against him, Pua stepped down from captain of his crew and resides at the inn, telling all kinds of stories to anyone who would listen

-Hodari is a cabin boy in Makuu’s float. It was always his dream to be a pirate and he was able to prove himself when he helped Makuu steal from Kiburi (after Kiburi stole from him first lol)

-All the captains act like mortal enemies at sea, but put them next to each other in a tavern or Ushari’s inn and they’re acting like they’ve been friends for years

-Out of all the crews, Kiburi’s curses the most. They’ve even done it in the inn when they visited for the night. Ushari had to threaten to bite them on the spot if they didn’t stop driving his customers away. The skinks didn’t do much to help, as Shupavu was too busy laughing and Njano was encouraging them

-Shenzi, Banzai, and Ed are also retired pirates, giving their ship to Janja’s crew once they put the life behind them. They own a tavern, which is another popular hangout spot for pirates

-Njano once snuck onto Kiburi’s ship on his day off. It was a disaster

Curious to know your feels about the 1000 Years Old finale. You didn't post much about it. Maybe that's a commentary in and of itself LOL.

Part of the answer is that I struggle with watching things out of my usual schedule and had a very busy weekend so I'm just getting around to actually watching the finale episode after knowing all kinds of spoilers. I am actively writing this response as I watch the episode. So enjoy my live thoughts on your ask.

And, so far, my entire reaction is that they crammed way too much here in the end. They needed to spread this out more than they did and I get parts of it, I like having the soulmates reveal only at the very end...

But there's a lot of plot and seriousness that they just didn't touch on enough and that I think including in the rest of the show would have improved it greatly as well as helping with the pacing struggling most people had.

If more of the Janja plot had been genuinely spread through the show and more of these serious moments and the understanding of their agreement and relationship had started earlier I might care more about this. But I don't care about Janja at all! I just don't! I wasn't given reasons to care until the very end and that's not enough for me.

Also, having Yoh not fight for any of it really did disappoint me but the director of this show, as seen in multiple other shows they've done, seems to have a thing for one very passive character in the main relationship who will just Allow Things To Happen To Them without ever fighting back. And I never like that, frankly.

Yes, they dropped a few hints here and there but it just isn't enough to tie it all together in this show itself.

It's not a bad finale, it's not the worst, but the end of the show feels so rushed compared to the rest and us not getting all the fluffy times together only to be shown a single scene at the end of a long happy life instead of the time together that I want to see.

I like domesticity, not the end of domesticity.

I get why people liked this ending. I see how people who rewatch things, especially, will enjoy the recontextualization of the show.

But for me? It made everything feel rushed and the rest of the show feel almost empty and slightly worse in comparison. Either we needed more plot or less episodes for this to work.

(Every time I see Somchai I am sad we did not get Somchai and Shin. Every single time. Come on. You crammed this much into the final episode, you could have given me more of them somewhere else!)

Also, I love his random bodyguards, whoever they are. Love them.

Also, this year long time skip is stupid.

Seriously, I am deeply frustrated by Yoh literally finding out they're soulmates and then just... completely abandoning Pun and leaving entirely. It's not interesting to see him just give up and it makes him the most passive character ever. Which we also had in I Will Knock You and, frankly, in 2gether. That's just The Style.

JANJA LITERALLY TOLD YOH SHE WAS GIVING HIM PUN BECAUSE PUN WILL NEVER LOVE ANYONE ELSE. Whatever, at least the confession and whole thing is done and now they can be soulmates together.

9 minutes of happy ending is not enough. Absolutely not enough. Yes, it was cute. Yes, it was a happy ending. But it's just not enough and it leaves me wanting more and wishing that the show were paced differently.

(Still sad we couldn't get any more Somchai and Shin, we deserved more.)

Edit Okay, I didn't mention this originally but I actually hate that the soulmate/reincarnation line takes away the power of Yoh's gift to Pun being his first birthday present. It really bothers me because that moment was one of the my favorite moments and the finale just made it not matter at all and turned it into something much less important and takes away a lot of the importance away of Pun wearing the cross and it BOTHERS ME A LOT.

Shenzi and Cheezi are bittersweet to me. Because he genuinely does not feel the same attachment or connection he has like with Banzai or Ed because she wasn't around much and even on the rare occassion when she was cubsitting Cheezi was like...."okay, she is nice but I want my dad. Why's uncle not here." so Shenzi had to more or less distract him from his thoughts because due to her not being around much, cub Cheezi also did not know her as well and he just liked familiarity.

So even when they reunite, that connection just is not there because the scent is not as strong to him, she is the hardest to remember for him because she was not as much around

Cheezi had to distance himself from her after finding out the truth about Scar and getting asked to join a different clan for safety. He already wanted to pull a Janja there because he is just: "You guys have three hundred hyenas living elsewhere. You went there after the fire. NONE of you came to ask to join for safety when we needed you the most. Why now??? Why now when the damage is done???" and then also thought since she said safety in numbers that dad likely will return to that clan too because just three hyenas so they are probably gonna be seperated again

Shenzi herself doesn't understand why he distanced himself, she just thinks he does not like her. Which, honestly valid because Cheezi never voiced any of his concerns. He was subtle in his approach, still needed to process everything, was too upset over suddenly getting asked to join a different clan out of nowhere that he just wanted to be away. He did not want to pull a Janja - he knows Shenzi is hurting over what happened with Scar. He doesn't want to be angry at her, in fact, he is not angry at her - he is upset how the whole situation turned out and that nobody told them the truth or helped them and that for years he was seperated from the hyena he loved the most

They are both a mess of communication issues and I love it

You know I'll never understand why the lion guard set up the romance of Kion and Jarsiri and then just axed it (I mean I can guess why, sort of).

yeah i find that really weird too. like by all accounts they hinted at it from the first episode they introduced her. but then ive also heard that ford riley had rani planned all along... so then what was that playful nudge at the end of the s1 episode? kion and jasiri dancing in a heart spotlight in janja's song? i love the show and i love rani - i think she gets WAY too much hate - but the way it all wrapped up with the endgame ships was a big letdown for me. even worse than kion/rani was putting jasiri with janja at the end... like, i love the guy, but he tried to kill her REPEATEDLY. not sending a great message by getting them together. .... i probably sound really bitter LOL but like, i have felt Some Type Of Way about this since it happened. ah well, that's what AUs are for

Hm. I want to say definitely, I'm sure I remember doing that... but it took me a while to actually place any characters who match that definition. I think a couple of main examples would have to be, firstly, Janja (Lion Guard), who I played on one site for a little bit; I hadn't found him a compelling character at all when I'd watched the show, but decided to try him there for whatever reason and found him surprisingly fun to write as.

The other would probably be Flutt.ershy (ML.P). I mean, granted, I kinda first thought "meh" about the entire show when I first learned about it and only started watching it because someone told me that I was most like Twilight out of the cast so I got curious; but I know Flutt.ershy took me longer to warm up to than any of the others. Then at some point she abruptly grew on me (was it because of a certain episode that made me like her more? I honestly don't remember) and - after previously only having written her Discord-corrupted mean version as a joke character once - I played as her on several sites in rapid succession because of that!

Who is your favorite OC?

Of my own OCs... I think I know who everyone's probably expecting me to say, since Lauren's the only OC I have on this blog. But honestly I think the answer has to be Cinnamon, from my doggie characters story idea. Cutie little mail delivery puppy who's super serious about her job but also a big sweetheart, I just love her so much :D

Have you ever developed a ship based on writing with a certain other character / mun?

Oh, for sure. I know for just one example, Margo / Antonio (Desp.icable Me) was one. I started Margo's blog absolutely convinced that I was never going to play any such relationship between the two after the way he ditched her in canon... and yet, interacting with this one Antonio roleplayer, bouncing them off each other, I just really came to love the dynamic we were building; and by the time she reached the point of forgiving him when he was genuinely regretful, I was fully on board shipping it! (Albeit only with that one mun; writing with anyone else who portrayed the character would definitely have had to start from step one all over again.)

I mean, come to think of it, that was where my absolute OTP Patch/Angel ship came from too! I'd never even considered the characters together before they began bouncing off each other with Patch's first player on that one site; but even though I was still VERY much a RPing newbie at the time, and I would cringe to look back at those posts now, every interaction the two of them had made me fall in love with them as a pair. Thirteen-and-a-half years later I'm still shipping them, so you could say it definitely left an impression on me! xD

hi, i saw your post about your family member. im so sorry you’re going through this right now. i don’t have experience with helping a family member get out, but i was raised in a very radical religious group and began the process of leaving this past year. here a few resources that helped me through that process:

(disclaimer that the language here is geared toward cults but its just an umbrella that covers any high control / radical group, religious or otherwise)

- a little bit culty podcast: they interview people who’ve been in high control / radical groups + discuss what drew them in, why they stayed, and why they left. it’s really great for understanding the mindset of what someone is going through, why they might alienate you, and what they’re struggling with. they’re early episodes especially are very information / resource heavy

- alittlebitculty.com/resources -> links to a lot of resources (articles, videos, interviews, books) that are focused toward people who are looking to leave, but could be really helpful for you in understanding what’s going on. i especially recommend looking into janja lalich’s and steve hassen’s websites, as they’re certified professionals in their fields and have each done a lot of work with helping people deradicalize their loved ones.

there isn’t an easy answer of course, and ultimately, it’s up to your loved one to decide what they want to do. but it’s so important that you’re trying to support them. from personal experience (+ a lot of research) i can tell you that it’s so common for people to pull away from family with different belief systems. just being there to still listen and love and keep the door open to them is going to be one of the most significant things you can do. abandoning a belief system like this is hard bc there’s so much shame involved in realizing you were wrong, so it means everything to have someone who will still love you and accept you.

It’s a Hell Yeah, or it’s a NO.

I recently read a book by ‘Seth Goodin’ called “The Practice: Shipping Creative Work”

In it he talks about a lot of great ideas that I think resonate with me and my vision of coaching. I would highly recommend checking it out as there are so many things in it that I think support a healthy relationship with performance. I am almost certain that I will revisit it in another post at some point. In fact it is one of the reasons that I have decided to try to Blog on a regular basis.

Anyway…. A quote from this book ->

NO 51. - The fear of falling behind

“KIASU - is the Hokkien word for "the fear of being left behind" or not getting enough. It's a common affliction, not only in Singapore, where the phrase originates, but around the world. Far more than FOMO, it's a grasping insufficiency that drives many people forward.”

This notion, Kiasu, the grasping insufficiency, is one of the emotions that I see appear in so many athletes and individuals that I coach. The idea that there is something more to be done, that their competitors are doing x,y,z and that to stay current, to stay competitive, they too must do the same. To combat this idea, we talk a lot with our athletes about their journey. About following their own path, choosing the steps that make the most sense to them. After all, they are not their competitor, they are a different person, so what suits them, what is best for them, MUST be different.

It’s also one of the main ways that people end up over training. They see someone doing this exercise that they think would benefit them, so they add it to their plan. Or they think, well if this person is doing that, then I also better do that. Or even, I have always done this, so I better keep doing it. The issue with this, aside from it being based on the aforementioned grasping mentality, is that it never answers the main questions of what do I need, how is my time best spent.

I took on a new athlete recently and we sat down for my customary discussion where we go over what they have been doing and what they think will work best for them moving forward. A typical thing for many athletes these days seems to be the inclusion of strength and conditioning.

I should state here that I think strength and conditioning for climbing has its place and is a very useful part of training for climbing. I have no negative feelings towards strength and conditioning and I have many great friends that are strength and conditioning coaches! 😅

But when I dug in and asked the tough question, WHY….. the answer was, well I’ve always done it. It is interesting to note that, just as with the athletes I coach, I love doing strength and conditioning. It makes me feel like I have worked hard, it makes me feel like I can see progress, it makes me feel like I am getting stronger. But at the end of the day, we want to be better climbers, which means we want to learn the art of climbing harder, not just pulling harder. They are actually 2 different things. Related? Maybe……. But not the same.

My general feeling is that much of our attachment to strength and conditioning is our own feelings of being ‘left behind’. We want to be stronger because we see so many of our climbing hero’s looking strong as they climb, and maybe if we can also do a one arm chin up, we can also climb like that. Interestingly enough the top 2 boulder athletes (arguably) last season, Janja Garnbret and Sorato Anraku, only recently were able to do a (single) one arm pull up…… Many, who still do a lot of strength and conditioning, don’t really need it and could probably use the extra recovery deleting it from their training plan. Which would in turn allow them to put more in when they train on the wall.

Which leads me to the what must feel like a random title, ‘If it’s not a hell yes, it’s a NO’.

The approach to training should in most cases be specific. What is it you want to do? Well then your training should look like that thing. That should be your primary focus. Anything that is added to it should have a very good reason to be there, otherwise it is reducing the time that you are able to train specifically for your task and reducing your recovery. So training for climbing should be primarily climbing. If you want to do weighted pull ups, you need to have a very good reason to add them in. Especially when your think about how much pulling you already do in climbing, particularly steep climbing. Remember spray walls? They used to be called training boards. And you know where bouldering came from? Rope climbers wanting to train……..

Most, if not all of the training drills we use are to focus on a specific part of climbing because we THINK it will improve our performance faster. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. Ultimately if you want to climb hard, you have to try to climb hard.

Kiburi’s mostly keeping himself busy by looking out the window or listening to rap music

When the car runs low on gas, everyone plays rock, paper, scissors to determine who gets to fill the car up (nobody wants to do it). Reirei loses and she has to witness the boys either being smug (Mzingo) or laughing and flipping her off (Janja and Kiburi)

Janja’s fun doesn’t last long since Jasiri tells him to buy everyone snacks. It’s mostly candy and beef jerky for Kiburi. Shupavu and Njano only get one measly pack of gum and nothing else

At some point, the skinks take an interesting picture of Janja sleeping on Kiburi’s lap like a pillow

For a croc road trip, Tamka and Neema are the one in a weird position. You could mistake them for a sleeping couple hfgfvfgf

Nduli and Cheezi are in their own world while everyone else is arguing. They’re just happy to be here

At the most inconvenient time, Njano has to pee. Same goes for Chungu, Goigoi, and Tamka 😭

Mzingo’s phone has the GPS plus he knows a couple shortcuts here and there so he’s very useful

Unfortunately they forget him at a gas station and it takes them like an hour to realize it. Dw they go back for him

On a hyena road trip, Janja “accidentally” forgets Nne and Tano at the gas station. With the crocs, they almost forget Neema. Jackals? It’s poor Goigoi. The skinks THINK they forgot either Nyeusi or Sumu but it turns out they just moved to the trunk lol

Lots of arguing happening no matter which Outlanders are on the trip

When everything’s quiet, Janja turns around out of curiosity and catches Shupavu and Njano making out (nothing NSFW just kissing)

Jasiri’s eyes start to droop a bit but is woken up by death metal on max volume (thanks, Janja lmao. Reirei was just gonna yell but that works too)

If it’s just Janja, Reirei, and Kiburi on the trip, then it’s like this

Constant fighting over music. Jasiri plays pop music, but Janja changes it to a rock and roll station, which is changed to country by Reirei, then classical/opera(?) by Mzingo, then rap/hip hop by Kiburi. In the end they all jam to “What is Love” along with the head bopping thing lmaoooo

Thank god the trip is a win and everyone has a good time!….until the ride home where everyone starts arguing again

Have an old art of her that I made a year ago 👀 (Already posted but to answer this question why not right) (Probably gonna do a redraw later).

First and foremost, she's more to the speed, silence, and effective type, rather than the strong and brawny type.

Second, she's been trained to be the perfect agent since she was 8 years old. I'd imagine that she has an athlete's body, as they're usually trained to shape their bodies to suit the requirement of their respective sports.

Jade's overall design is in fact inspired by athletes. Like her combat shirt is inspired by football players' drill top, her hairstyle is common for gymnastics', while her body type is that of a sports climber (Search up Janja Garnbret 👀).

Jade's height is 164 cm/5'4" while her weight is 58 kg/127 lbs.

I think she can lift up to around 85 kg/187 lbs or around 1.5x her weight!

Also, I deffo don't think she can lift Ghost up LMFAOO. I fucking believe with my heart and soul that Simon's around 95-100 kg with that build.

(Even more reason to bridal style carry her, am I right Ghost)

I really miss Jake and the Neverland Pirates because it was just so wholesome and sweet. However, the one thing I will never forgive the writers for is how they treated Hook in the final episode of the show. Disney Junior has a pretty good track record giving villainous characters like Cedric the Sorcerer (Sofia the First), Chancellor Esteban (Elena of Avalor), and Janja and the hyenas (The Lion Guard) redemption arcs, and they definitely seemed to be doing the same with Hook in most of the Jake series. The final episode, however, has him backtracking and behaving in a much darker manner more in line with how he is traditionally portrayed in the films but which is totally out of character for the “villainous hero” we have come to love who once stood up against the Legion of Pirate Villains to save his friends. So what happened? In truth, I think Disney accidentally wrote themselves into a corner here because—unlike the other above-mentioned characters—he’s one of the classic film villains…and the storyline of Jake takes place between the first and second films. However, I still maintain that they could have (and SHOULD have) worked around it. Perhaps they might have done a time skip at some point—have Hook go dark again for a time, but then skip ahead to post-Return to Neverland and have him come back to his senses, make peace with Peter, and sail off into the sunset with Red Jessica to live happily ever after.

Just…look at this man and tell me he’s evil.

This man who rescues kittens…

Who is madly in love with his girlfriend…

Who respects his mother….

Who has a favorite stuffed animal he can’t sleep without….

Who looks at a gift given to him from a child like he has never received something so precious and he doesn’t believe he deserves it…

And who, though a bit bossy, genuinely loves his crew and considers them his friends.

Look at him and tell me he doesn’t deserve a happy ending.

Give Hook a full redemption arc, you cowards!! I don’t care if you do it in Kingdom Hearts or in a third film or a Disney-official book or some obscure comic or something but DO IT. I NEED it to happen.
