Thoughts after watching Mr. McMahon
This one won't be a traditional review of sorts that people have come to expect from me. Recently, Netflix released Mr. McMahon a look into the mind of the most recognized face in the wrestling business.
Netflix decided throughout the documentary that they wanted to reiterate that almost all of this documentary was made before the major allegations against Vince in 2022. That felt a little bit like a cop out at times. For me instantly, that is the story. It is how Vince will be remembered now, and there is no way around it. It basically made the serious accusations levied against Vince feel like just another throwaway moment in the life of an eccentric billionaire.
They immediately can say well we addressed it with the little blurb saying that the events within the 6 episodes are now skewed. Yet they awkwardly chose to edit one of the very first sentences of the documentary to essentially be Vince saying "I wish we could talk about things but I have to be silent."
The issue that arises from that is at what point in the process did Vince say that? Was it a harmless throwaway when asked about locker room talk? Was it in a means to try and get him to elaborate on the known affairs that he himself made public.
While personally I won't go as far as to say Bruce Prichard is right when saying this doesn't paint the portrayal of Vince, it certainly allowed too much of Vince to keep speaking while their was damning evidence mounted against him over the last two years. They should have switched the focus of the documentary when that information came out. They should have made it life with vs life without Vince. Of course, we still don't know exactly what long-term life without him looks like, but we should have had more superstars interviewed about how they felt. These were people who clearly prior to the allegations coming out that were still trying to blur the lines between reality and fiction. Including Vince himself. It casts shadows on most of the people who worked so closely with Vince over the years. It made the Mr. McMahon character the center piece of a story that is about real-life debauchery and trying to get away with it.
It felt like the real story here, which was the deaths of Owen Hart, Chris Benoit, and Ashley Massaro, were simply glossed over because while making the documentary, they still wanted to paint Vince as this creative mastermind. As said both are true. He did this. He brought this to life but there should be no celebrating the man that brought his real life depravity to the screen.
After Janel Grant filed her lawsuit, the entire focus of this documentary should have changed. There was truly never a Mr. McMahon character and if seeing the way he treated Ashley in one scene they used didn't leave you feeling sad and lost then this documentary failed to highlight the true nature of how evil and vile this man could be. It should have been about why one person controlling so much of one entity is never a good thing. Vince McMahon is the ultimate definition of power, corrupting the mind and having your way in life because you feel untouchable. If nothing else, please let this documentary serve as a means to let young women and men know that money never gives a person the right to dominate you.

i was tagged by the lovely @emiliosandozsequence to share five songs i’ve had on repeat lately!! thank you <3
“you like magic? / i’ve got a wand and a rabbit!!” im late to this party but i just love her voice and it’s so amazing to have a real queer person writing about romance!!
this is my comfort song, i play it on repeat when im having bad nights.
this song has had so many covers of it but god this version is soooo pretty. it also takes me back to the early 2010s when sky ferreira was THEE it girl
again with the 2010s nostalgia, this song was on like every 8tracks playlist for and edgy/brooding character. it’s a shame the band never made any other songs like it. “i am contagious, i am plagued with lies / flesh of our fathers, i am no one's fault”
i always get back into this song, it’s so good and music video is incredible. huge win for the bisexuals
i tag @virgomoon @undercovercannibal @godisaknife @godspetdog @qualude @godflesh and @vulpinesaint <3

WTNV quick rundown - 107 - The Missing Sky
Featuring Desiree Burch as Pamela Winchell.
Read the rest here!
The best strategy for a labyrinth is to put one hand on a wall and follow that hand around until you reach the exit. The second best strategy is screaming. Welcome to Night Vale.
There is a faint popping as well as the sound of singing coming from underground (as well as breaks in reality continuing). Carlos, Luisa and Nilanjana are investigating and figure out that the popping is fireworks and the singing is the voice of a parade coming from the tiny city under Lane 5. They are celebrating the Great Weeks of Memorial to commemorate the 'attack' on their city and years of fruitless war which followed.
It turns out that the tiny city under Lane 5, which has given up it's attempt at war, is actually a miniture version of Night Vale. It has it's own Cecil and several familiar residents but does not appear to experience any of the supernatural or strange elements the larger NV has. It is however, completely isolated from the rest of the world due to being trapped under Lane 5 which is not their natural state of being.
Tiny Cecil recounts the day Carlos stepped into the hole as a terrible and dark day.
Noted differences between NV and Tiny NV include: Josie died several years ago and she and Cecil were not close, Erika is a woman with an angel tattoo who was living with Josie, John Peters was a war hero and lived/worked with Jim Peters, Leann Hart was an intelligence officer, Steve and Cecil were best friends (before Steve died in the war) and the lines and grids that Steve could see where the floorboards of lane 5, city council is made up of actual people including Harriet Ramon and Benjamin Gold, there is constant rolling thunder (the bowling balls), this Cecil has never met a scientist, the weather is reported as actual weather, they worship Huntokarr and believe she is punishing them by cutting them off.
Although he talks of Carlos as some kind of God which caused everyone great pain and terror, the Tiny Cecil also finds Carlos beautiful, talking about his rich brown eyes and perfect hair and teeth.
Weather: "The Ends and the Means" by Robby Hecht
Regular Cecil is worried about Carlos being near Lane 5 again and leaves his show to go and offer moral support.
Stay tuned next for one of our most popular shows, Janelle Duarte’s advice show, Hey Janelle, What Did I Personally Do To Contribute to Huntokar’s Anger Against Us? And under whatever starless, moonless sky it is we have lived under since the day of the change, good night, Night Vale. Good night.
Proverb: "Top of the morning to you. The rest of the day to me. I never said this was fair."

So what kinda hell was Micky going through post Monkees? ;w;
alright buckle up boys asia’s going to talk about one of the favourites 💖
so micky talks a lot in his book about how all of them felt pretty confident that their celebrity would carry them on forever and ever amen, so they weren’t really too worried about the show ending or even peter leaving etc (and micky does this interesting thing i’ve noticed that when he brings up anything that could be negative he positions it like a collective thought/value. from the context of him doing this it seems like it’s often to minimize any specific blame on any of the four guys which is another reason i love micky so much 💖). that being said i think it was more like micky was in denial of things falling apart and just decided to keep going until he couldn’t.
micky was probably the only one out of the guys not financially devastated after the show thanks in large part to his mom who was managing his finances and investing on his behalf (shoutout to janelle for being a REAL ONE!!!). initially he tried to keep things going after the monkees when it came to his whole acting/singing career (i’m going to be super general here because i can’t for the life of me remember specific dates etc). so he did a couple small roles (keep off my grass!, night of the strangler, tv guest spots etc) but unfortunately his reputation as a monkee (as with the other guys) kept hindering that avenue (he would go into audition for a part and get “hey aren’t you that drummer from that band” which ironically was the only time people thought of him as a legit musician 😂). he also tried to cut it as a solo artist (see the whole mgm singles and the fucking disaster surrounding that) but that didn’t really go anywhere.
so micky then gets hitched to the dolenz, jones, boyce & hart endeavour (davy takes a jab at micky in his book saying somehow he wheedled his way into that deal, but micky claims in his book that boyce and hart approached him specifically soooo). this actually seems to be a highlight for micky until davy and him decide after that run to keep going as a duo. micky and davy started to have some issues, and micky himself was getting more and more depressed with the realities of being a washed up performer playing at clubs to drunks (<- he literally said a flavour of this in this interview starting at around the 40 minute mark). and then things kind of came to a head when he went to england to do the point! and had his massive, explosive falling out with davy which ultimately made him decide to stay in england and focus on directing (which he had also been trying to do back in the states, but again no one was taking him seriously post monkees).
while all of this was going on micky was also partying pretty hard. his first marriage was falling apart, and it seems like he didn’t really know what to do with his life. emotionally he was pretty devastated (or so it seems. he doesn’t quite say that, but in his book he says that he thought he’d have been prepared for the monkees to be over since he’d already dealt with a series ending etc but in actuality it was so much worse the second time and hit him way harder) and overall he was just adrift.
