Munich Gig Report (04.12.23)!

Very haphazard report in no particular order under the cut

no Kris NGVOT :( genuinely sad bc I'd been looking forward to that

I finally broke my no-Jance-ASTP-curse

they almost fell down the stairs after the final SSOL. I say "fell". I mean "Jan almost tackled Nace on stage and then down the stairs." Well, he jumped on Nace's back on the stage and they kinda wrestled/hugged a bit and almost tumbled down the stairs

Jan said Ho Ho Ho in the ASTP intro and it was adorable

Bojan learned of the cancelled flight during the gig as he was telling us not to wait for them because they'd leave immediately (and they did)

Bojan spit so much water onto Jan during Omamljeno telo that Kiki had to come out with a towel and dry off Jan's guitar. My arms were noticably wet. Why, Bojan.

Bojan caught lots of bracelets out of the air

I handed over the gift for Nace between Katrina and ASTP and hoped to catch his reaction but he didn't look at it then. He did give me a plec in return, which I hadn't expected and so caught me by surprise 😂

they got oodles of presents and didn't take them backstage between Carpe Diem and SSOL 2, so I didn't expect Nace to have taken the shirt, but he must have because he came back to thank me before SSOL2 and I blue-screened

Nace started the pedalboard shenanigans and then Jan flipped switches and pushed buttons on his and I'm pretty sure I caught it on camera but I need to actually... post it, oops

we got drums and bass during Novi val, which was neat, but not as cozy as usual

I saw Kris in his Stožice outfit again and it's hot ngl but I was low-key hoping for the white one. Bojan in the cummerbund :(

Kris wore Hot Mess glasses and wiggled adorably and sat very cutely on the stage, and yeah I know I'm talking about a 1.9m tall dude or sth but still. Yeah.

Nace's bass was out of tune and of course Jan was the first to notice and tell him

we were so close to the stage I would have been able to hear Nace and Jan talk if not for my earplugs

the sound was amazing -- it might have been the best sound I've encountered especially for front row

I never want to be this close to Bojan's crotch again

Bojan had a snapped string on his acoustic guitar, and Jan's guitar also had issues that Kiki quickly fixed and Bojan meanwhile told the story of how Tokio came to be

Jure came back eating a Brezel, and Bojan basically stole it from his mouth (Jure looked happy to let him)

they got a Lebkuchenherz (gingerbread heart) with "Joker Out Munich 04.12.23" written on it

two of my friends sang Umazane Misli! And the way Bojan looked at them was amazing

Bojan was so, so delighted by the German version of Umazane Misli

there was a five-year-old or something in the audience and Bojan was very charmed, I think

during Tokio, Nace and Kris got really up close and personal with each other

Bojan looked so good during the gig and jfc I hate coming out of gigs a temporary Bojan girlie (gn)

this might have been my favourite gig ever. Berlin was amazing. Dublin was awesome. But yesterday was just. Above and beyond even without the shirt. I was worried I'd be disappointed about not being able to give the shirt in person, but Nace looked so, so happy in the story and aaaah

it was a really nice crowd, and the queue was so so chill. The numbers system worked magically

apparently Jan got briefly distracted by Nace's ass near the beginning (but I missed it)

Bojan said having the audience so close was their favourite

we once again sang happy birthday for Nace and Jan

Kiki gave me a setlist! And had lovely lavender nail polish

Hii! Based on an ask I was sent a long time ago and got reminded the other day: assign classic fanfic tropes (like soulmates au, enemies to lovers, etc) to each of the JO guys (or some ships if it's easier for you) <3

(and sending a hug your way too 🫂💖)

this was harder than i thought it would be and i spent way too much time to decide what to assign to who because i kept imagining things in my head hehe

Bojan: soulmates 100%. he has love for whoever he crosses paths with (love is stored in the Bojan💖) but Bojan and his soulmate(s)? imagine, just spectacular

Kris: enemies to lovers. he's a hater and a bitch (affectionaly, but not everyone gets it that way). but he also has his weak spots, which only an enemy of his can hit right until the pain turns into love and the enemy is anything but that. he's just perfect for that trope lol

Nace: hurt/comfort and found family. he's The comfort person and he makes sure to show to his loved one(s), but at the same time he's dealing with his own demons who keep stabbing him. until he eventually finds the comfort he seeks as well to the people he picks to compose that comfort bubble surrounding him (and he deserves it so much)

Jure: college au and fwb. i just imagine him being a social butterfly in college, engaging in all kinds of shenanigans but also being a good and caring friend anyone can rely on. he fits this au in my head. the fwb is a nice extra to all this or can even be considered separatly and well, it just screams Jure

Jan: opposites attract. the dark weird guy with the smart humour but the mysterious aura, not actively looking for his other half. they just happen to come in his life and bring a light that wasn't there before, like yin and yang

and since i feel like i wanna assign some tropes to ships too (not necessarily combined together but without explanation or this will never end...

Jance: tattoo shop au // slow burn // idiots in love

Bokris: fake/pretend relationship // forced proximity

BoJan: hanahaki // soulmates

Jankris: platonic soulmates // vampire au (don't ask)

Janjure: bromance // fwb // partners in crime

I have this mental image in my head of Bojan meeting someone who he hates (who most likely hurt one of his friends (an ex or something)) and ends up being protective as fuck annnnddd starting a fist fight.

Or some Jance but its Bojan who's exposing their feelings to one another in a goofy cocky way (and later he's probably being chased by Kris with a newspaper, because he as getting entertained by looking at the two lovebirds being shy and awkward)

Or bottom Bojan with Kris... There's something wrong with me these days

Okay so I did the first prompt (and kind of implied the last at the very end), and I apologize, this was written on the phone and nit proofread so. Make of it what you will. I still hope you like it!

TW for fatphobia(from an OC not one of the boys) violence, slight description of blood and alcohol

Bojan was admittedly, a little tipsy. Which meant he had a little less control over his emotions than he'd usually have.

Which in turn, meant that when he saw a man invade Nace's space, despite Nace clearly being uncomfortable, he felt anger immediately shimmer under the surface.

He faintly heard a snippet of their conversation.

"Oh, Nacko, you change so much since we went to school together! Finally lost that weight, huh?"

Oh, no he did not. Bojan saw Nace flinch slightly at the comment. He grit his teeth and made sure to push through the crowd in the club until he was at Nace's side.

"Hello," he said, flashing his teeth in something resembling to a smile, "and who might you be?"

The man looked at Bojan suspiciously. He slightly towered over him, but then again, most men did. It particualrly didn't concern him. He looked skinny. And dumb.

"I am Nace's friend from high school!"

Right. Judging by Nace's face, friend was a generous title. Bojan narrowed his eyes.

"What did you say your name was?"

"Marko. Yours?"

"Bojan."

Marko. Wasn't that the guy Nace mentioned bullying him in high school? Bojan wanted to seethe.

"Right, Bojan, of course! You are the main vocalist. I remember now. Guess you guys got pretty famous, huh?"

Bojan crossed his arms over his chest and stepped forward, making sure to insert himself between Nace and the bully.

"Bojan. Don't," Nace whispered softly, quiet enough for only Bojan to hear.

Which did make him hesitate. He didn't want Nace to be more uncomfortable, after all. So he swallowed his rage and tried to put up a charming facade.

"I guess we did."

"Never thought Nace would be a part of something like that. Do you know what we called him in high school?"

He felt Nace tense behind him. Rage hit Bojan square in the chest, and he forgot about not wanting to make a scene.

"I would recommend not saying it. Ever."

Marko didn't seem to have gotten a message, or detected his tone. He laughed, making a dismissing gesture with his hand.

"Oh, com'on now. It was all in good fun. You seem like you were popular, even back in high school. You know how things work."

What kind of piece of shit would-Bojan took a deep breath. He let his hands fall from where he was crossing them over his chest to his sides. Then he clenched them into fists.

"I do," he said, very calmly, "would you like to see how I dealt with people talking shit about my friends?"

He didn't wait for an answer. He swung at him, as hard as he could, and heard as his fist collided with his nose in a satisfying crack.

Then all hell broke loose.

Nace tried to pull him back, but Marko managed to punch him in the jaw, and Bojan taste blood from a slip lip. He attempted to push against Nace to give another punch, but Nace didn't budge.

Just in time for the bouncers to arrive and very firmly escort them out. Marko swore at them, saying he didn't even start the fight. Which looked ridiculous with their heigh difference. And Bojan did ocassionly use the influence he had to get his way.

"A bit of an obsessive fan, that one. Sorry for the trouble," he whispered to the closest bouncer.

He got a nod of understanding in response and they actually let him go, while they continue escorting Marko out. Bojan made sure to flash a quick grin in his directon.  Which prompted  new wave of swearing, before it got drowned out by the the music.

"What did you do now?" Kris asked sharply just behind him.

Bojan turned around to face his very annoyed boyfriend.

"He was mean to Nace!"

Kris raised an eyebrow. He didn't look very impressed. Bojan did his best not to pout.

"He is telling the truth," Nace said, making Bojan jump.

When did he come around? Hmm. Maybe Bojan was a bit more tipsy than he thought.

Well. That was a thought for later. For now...Bojan threw his hands around Nace, pulling him into a hug.

"I will fight all the bullies for you!"

Nace chuckled and returned the hug. Bojan leaned his head on his chest. He really did give the best hugs.

"As much as I appreciate that, I'd prefer you in one peace. He did get you good with that punch. That's probably gonna bruise."

"Where?"

Bojan groaned at Kris' question and lightly slapped Nace's shoulder.

"Look what you did! He is going to go all mom friend on me now!"

Nace simply rolled his eyes and withdrew from the hug.

"Perhaps that would stop you from getting into fights more often."

Bojan pouted and was about to say something about how much Nace actually appreciated being defended, when Jure yelled Nace's name.

"Nace! Jan is arguing with someone over math problems again!"

Nace sighed.

"I better go, before that turns into a fist fight, too."

Then he left, leaving Bojan at Kris' mercy. Kris, who pulled him to the quieter corner, where there weren't so many people.

"Let me see that bruise."

Kris gently raised his chin so he could look at it. If he could see anything with the club's flashing lights.

"Tehnically, it's unlikely the bruise already formed-"

"Just be quiet for a minute, for the love of god."

Bojan closed his mouth with a click. He knew it was due to the alcohol that his emotions were this unstable, but he suddenly became aware of just how much Kris must be annoyed with him.

"Hey," Kris said, his voice softer, "I didn't mean-you just worried me, that's all. How about we go to my place so I can take a proper look at that?"

Not everyone understood his and Kris' relationship, saying they always bickered. What they didn't understand was that, as much as they bickered, it was never intentionally hurtful. And sure, sometimes some lines were crossed, but they always apologized for it.

Bojan looked up at him and smiled. Colorful lights reflected in Kris' blue eyes and Bojan felt as starstruck as he did everytime he gave himself time to think "Holy shit, this guy is my boyfriend".

"Did I ever tell you that you have very pretty eyes?"

Kris rolled his pretty eyes at him. Rude.

"Yes. On an almost regular basis. Now let's get you home, okay?"

Bojan pouted.

"Don't I at least get a kiss for that?"

Kris shot him a glare, but Bojan could see the softness underneath it. So he got on his tiptoes and wrapped his arms around Kris' neck, reaching for his lips. Kris met him halfway.

The kiss started soft and sweet, but quickly turned more passionate as Kris pressed on the cut on his lip. Bojan moaned and pulled him closer.

It was only when Bojan pulled on Kris' hair that the younger broke the kiss and stepped back.

"Let's try not to give everyone a show in the club."

Bojan grinned.

"Does that mean I get a reward for being a good friend when we do get home?"

Kris pressed his lips together and walked towards the door without an answer. Bojan laughed as he ran after him.

Perhaps tonight was a complete waste, after all.

But I think that we're at a peaceful enough spot to post this and also the Damon and Kris stuff in Slovenia makes this a little more relevant.

Of course I wouldn't mind! 😊 Jance, one shot (or probably intended to be and then turning into multi-chaptered, knowing me): looking at different times they've hidden their relationship since getting together - things like being "just a good friend" when meeting the other's family members, cutting back on the stage shenanigans at international festivals, inventing fake answers for interviews, etc. - and exploring how they eventually changed their minds ahead of the photoshoot to feel more comfortable in what they tell people, as well as setting up boundaries about what they owe to anyone outside of themselves. send me a made-up fic title and i’ll tell you what i would write to go with it

A Day for Shenanigans

The parade and associated festivities in honor of St. Patrick have returned after a pandemic-induced absence of two years, and I went downtown this morning with my camera to capture some of the fun. The crowd along the parade route was sparse when I arrived, nearly outnumbered by the folks already in line at the Guinness booth in the park. But by the time the pipes and drums led the way down Sixth Avenue and back up Stone, the number of onlookers had increased to a respectable level.

Most of those present were wearing green, of course, occasionally paired with slogans about shenanigans. Along with the pipes and drums, the parade included a couple of groups showing off their Irish step-dancing skills; a local association of Irish wolfhound owners; a float with Hugo O’Conor, the Irish native who served in Spain’s military, was founding father of the city of Tucson, and built the Presidio San Agustín del Tucsón; and the usual collection of local celebrities and businesses promoting themselves for no Irish saint-related reasons.

It’s been a while since I spent quite as much time taking pictures in the downtown area. At least a couple of years, though there have been brief adventures. Thanks to the construction of the Aviation Highway extension along downtown’s periphery, getting into and out of the area is not as straight and clear as in the past. Like elsewhere in Tucson, certain road construction projects are seemingly incompatible. Planning appears to have been overlooked.

Also back on the scene after two years is the Tucson Festival of Books, filling the mall on the University of Arizona campus today and tomorrow. My intent was to stop by and do some photography there as well, and maybe take in an appearance by one of the hundreds of authors in attendance, including J.A. Jance and Craig Johnson. Bob Odenkirk, known more for his acting than his writing, was also scheduled to be on hand. But I wore myself out earlier. Maybe I’ll check it out tomorrow. The weather is supposed to be perfect.

13. Stay home/go-out? What are their date nights like? With being on the road so much, having a quiet night in with good food, nice wine and something on Netflix would be a bit of a luxury. It’d give them chance to unwind and just be the two of them without anyone else around – there’s a lot of chance for bars and clubs and socialising while on tour. They’d probably try to get out and about every now and then, maybe take Ollie a bit further afield for a walk in the forest or something. It’d be a bit less high pressure than being out in the city, where people are more likely to recognise them straight away.

25. (a lil sappy, but..) What do they like about each other? Nace once described Jan as a true artist, so obviously he admires that about him, but I think Jan would also be a bit amazed by Nace’s ability to copy music by ear and remember such a huge repertoire of songs. They had quite different routes into their careers and would appreciate the different strengths this gave them as a result. Jan would love how generous Nace is to others, always willing to give his full time and attention to others, whether that’s his friends, his family or the fans, no matter how exhausted he is. He’s always very in tune with Jan needing to be grounded in interviews. However, he’d also really appreciate his sense of humour, which starts to emerge as he settles into the band – the first time Nace is sarcastic to him, Jan just keeps replaying it gleefully in his head for the rest of the day. Nace would really appreciate Jan’s sillier side coming out. He has a tendency to look a bit aloof and mysterious, so you wouldn’t necessarily expect it, but what starts off as a sign he’s accepting him into the band soon evolves into their own brand of shenanigans. He would also enjoy Jan’s passion for his interests, even if they don’t necessarily share them – Nace’s not a mathematician, for example, but the enthusiasm with which Jan speaks about what he studies? Yeah, he can recognise that. And even if Jan has a tendency to drift sometimes, he always remembers the most important things. Maybe he’s chronically late to rehearsals, but somehow he’s always got cupboards full of gluten free bread and snacks whenever Nace comes to visit.
