#StoriesBehindDoors, The #Gambia, April 14th, 2016 peaceful protests for electoral reform. This is the doorway to Lamin Sonko’s house, who was arrested with many others on that day: “They took our statements and then they took us to be tortured, to the NIA (National Intelligence Agency)...“do you know that we beat and kill soldiers, here?” an officer asked. Yes, but we are politicians, not soldiers, if you have to beat us to death, then do it...I am just fighting for my rights! They tied my hands behind me, to a wall, and then threw cold water all over my body…then they began to beat me, all over my body and my head. I thought I am going to die. Blood was bleeding all over my body. I was almost beaten to death…they filmed what they were doing to us and we were crying ‘why?’ “every day, we will bring you here to torture you again”, they told us" _ Mr. Sonko was arrested along with prominent activist of the opposition United Democratic Party (UDP), Solo Sandeng who, tragically, was beaten to death whilst in police custody.
