Throwback Thursday #72!- SS Decontrol- Get It Away (1983- X-claim/ 2024- Trust)

I'm pretty sure I heard this 7-song EP before their debut (1982's The Kids Will Have Their Say) and I wasn't sure what to make of it at first. I thought it was going to sound a lot like Minor Threat (who I loved), but it didn't. Slower, heavier, more menacing.

Eventually I did get it and really took to the record. Springa's vocals sound totally unhinged (in the best way possible) and Al Barile's guitar is like a bulldozer, rolling over everything in its path. The rhythm section of Jamie Sciarappa on bass and Chris Foley on drums weren't too shabby either (an understatement really). 

The opening cut, "Glue" ("Gotta stick together!"), really sets the tone for the rest of the record. This leads into the thick, punishing "Forced Down Your Throat" and then into the stone-cold classic title track ("Don't you dare steal my air..."). Another favorite is the jagged, pile- driving "Noting Done," and the closing cut "No Reply" is the final flip off.

I believe the band was Barile's vision, his work ethic, his no-nonsense worldview. After the debut and this I didn't like the final two records nearly as much (1984's more metal-tinged How We Rock, and 1985's Break It Up). 

but this one.....damn, 7 songs in 12 minutes. Get it (away).
