Spotted #RachaidKhoraichi @britishmuseum by chance! Last time I saw this work it was en masse, on raw flooring, at the inaugural show of @elmarsagallery when they 1st expanded from #Tunis to @alserkalavenue, Dubai. The director resisted interviewing with me because of his English, he said, but it was more than fine in the end and I'm so glad. @Koraichi_Koraichi also won the #jameelprize @vamuseum some years ago, and I interviewed him back then with translation from @octobergallery. In any case, #ElMarsa are the subject of this weeks' Six Pillars as well, showing a young & overtly political #Tunisian artist, airs Wednesday 9pm UK time. Details will be on www.Sixpillars.org #tunisia #arts #radio #britishmuseum #sculpture #interview (at British Museum)

Patterned Coaster - Final Outcome Evaluation
Overall, now that I could reflect on my work and evaluate it, I am actually pleased not only of the outcome of my work but also the process I went through with it. I also like how the outcome look distressed even though I didn’t really plan it to end up that way. In addition to that he task I enjoyed the most was when we started creating our patterns of geometric shapes, floral patterns and calligraphy from scratch and modify it even further by using Photoshop.
What I think went well the most was making the final piece, because I found myself using techniques Im familiar with like Photoshop for instance and cutting the MDF into an accurate size that I want due to my knowledge I learnt from my 3D lessons and also use materials and techniques I haven’t tried before such as wood transferring. The artist research, museum visits and workshops that I took part in also went very well because it did help me make the final outcome. Especially my artist research where I got my main ideas from for my final piece, mainly with Rob Ryan’s work since his designs are close to my specialist. Moreover, I just really enjoyed the practical aspect of the project along with the research.
If I was to do another set again the only thing I feel like I should improve/ develop in my final piece is to add colour and also maybe be more careful with it when wood transferring.
Though overall, the process I went through was enjoyable and it would be something I would want to do again since you get to choose your final outcome. Reflecting on the whole project overall this project helped me improve my research skills and my creativity when using materials and techniques.

The process of creating my final piece
I thought to use MDF wood for my coaster considering that I think its most suitable material to use for my coaster, which I got from the 3D workshop. From my research I found out that modeling paste could be used for wood transferring, fortunately I have one at home so that’s what I used to make this coaster. After leaving it for 12 hours, what I did was soaked it in water and started rubbing off the paper using a brush. At the final picture it shows the outcome, though I would probably use a gloss coating to make it more long lasting to use.

Project Proposal
In this particular project we were assigned to develop a piece of art, design and craft as we desire for the Jameel Prize 2016, though it must showcase Islamic Art and Traditions.
As a starting point what I did was I researched into the Jameel Prize which I found out that its an International award that takes place every two years. It's an opportunity for contemporary artist and designers to showcase their talent through Islamic Art.
Throughout the Jameel Prize project I have managed to conduct research about the Islamic traditions which covers their culture and beliefs. Also the Islamic Art itself and the history behind it. I found out that they mainly use 3 special elements from their designs which consist of calligraphy, geometric shapes and floral motifs.
I have also gained knowledge of what Islamic art is all about from doing arrays of drawings of plant motifs, geometric and symmetrical designs and calligraphies and to tessellate them making sure they're all symmetrical to each other as this is a vital key to islamic art.
As for my first primary research, we were able to visit the Mosaic Room in Earl's Court and had the opportunity to have a talk with a Palestinian artist called Dia Batal who also took part for the award. Her designs are all in the context of longing, belonging and identity, she have a lot of arabic calligraphies which really reflects from her exhibition. We also visited the V&A and seen an array of islamic patterns from paintings sculpture and products. All these research actually helped me to gain more ideas which I included as part of my research.
Narrowing this project with my own ideas along with the things I've learned about Islamic Art. Keeping my specialist subject in mind which is 3D, I decided to create something that covers Islamic Art but also relates to 3D. So in my final piece I am going to create a coaster with my patterns covered on top of it making it as the main design of my product. I will be using the technique called wood transfer with a set of MDF i’ll get from the 3D workshop.
The reason why I picked set of coasters as my final outcome is because I want my design to be something tangible and at the same time has a purpose. that’s just me being a 3D constantly thinking of the characteristic of a good design.

Made Patterns from Photoshop
Here are the patterns I have managed to make by combining both my geometric shape tessellated and the plant motifs I have drawn into one piece which gave me various of design I could work with for my final outcome.
While creating these pieces, what I thoroughly thought about was where each motif should be placed and also the colours I am going to use since colour is one of the important parts in Islamic Art.

Rob Ryan - Artist Research
Rob Ryan creates product consisting his laser cut patterns, I chose as one of the artist I would base my design with since it is kind of similar to what I want to do for my final piece, which is to combine my patterns with a product. mainly house products.
Although he views himself first and always as a fine artist, his intricate papercut work adapts itself readily to many other mediums including ceramics, textiles, homewares and even jewellery.
