since i was too impatient to wait a few hours for the official announcement to find out if ichiro is going to be the next free card, i logged the free/premium cards for the past 60 arb story events* and found some mildly interesting numbers along the way

(this data probably already exists somewhere but honestly it was faster to log it myself than to look for it lol)

dice hasn't been a free card in 17 events, and he's shown up 4 times as a premium card during that time

sasara is the only one who hasn't been free for longer (18 events) but he's only shown up once as a premium since he was last free

sasara is also the one who's gone the longest without an appearance at all (7 events)

in the past 60 events everyone has shown up between 9-12 times (ichiro, samatoki, ramuda, and sasara each have 9**; gentaro and dice are the only ones with 12***)

almost everyone has been free either 3 or 4 times in the past 60 events, except jakurai (only free 2 times) and jyushi (free 5 times)

the numbers are all pretty reasonably balanced, like it's three guys per event (i only logged the most recent 60 bc earlier events had different structures) with a total of eighteen guys in the franchise so approximately 10 appearances each in 60 events is fair

on average characters are free 1/3rd of the time though there are some notable outliers (jakurai has only been free 20% of the time in the past 60 events, while jyushi has been free 50% of the time in that same range)

oh also hitoya and rei have both shown up 10 times in the past 60 events and 4 of those times were together i don't think anyone else has as much of an overlap frequency lmao (even hifudo only have 3 lol; eta: i was wrong jiro and gentaro also have an overlap of 4 but STILL that is a substantial amount of reitoya they are putting in the water here)

*technically 61 events since i included the upcoming one **since i'm including the upcoming event ichiro technically only had 8 appearances in the previous 60, with an appearance in 61 bumping him up to 9 (they are neglecting my boy?!) ***similarly gentaro only hits 12 with event 61 so technically in the previous 60 events only dice had 12 appearances

Finally after a lot of time spent on my books rushing my studies for University, I managed to finish studying most of the books I had to study! I do agree that the outfits feel a lot less iconic 🥲.. I don't mind the sasaro matching I've accepted atp that kr will not let it go but I wish sasara's pants were the same pattern too at least. maybe that would feel like too much, I guess. Rosho wouldn't have crazy patterned pants and I guess, if Sasara did with this outfit, he would be overshadowed again? maybe this is to show they're on equal footing now?

I really hate how Sasara and Rosho are always paired up together in canon but oml I love their dynamic in Rhyme Anima 😭😭😭 Like the fucking gag in the recent ep where they leave Sasara and Rosho behind cause Sasa needed to piss. And they play the laugh track and then REI ALMOST FUCKING KILLS THEM 😭😭😭 Had me dying that was the best part of the episode.

About the outfits themselves its just idk... I don't like it. It does show that their bond is repaired but also it seems to be taking away from their main individual traits. Sasara still reads as silly guy but it doesn't read as comedian for a living. Rosho still reads as mildly studious but he doesn't actually read like dedicated teacher, ynno? It's nice that it shows they're on equal footing but of course they're going to be equal if they're essentially going to be portrayed as one in the same.

Jakurai's lil coat slits are a lil silly I admit fwafewaefw. The image of him holding the side ones on the train as to not have them spill to the seats over has been in my mind since this ask came in pfffff. I do think he looks much hotter in the fit, silly slits or not fewafweafewaawg.

Alas, I think the heart bangs was just for that illustration 😭😭😭 In the first key visual we got with the new outfits Ramu's bangs were how they usually are even in his og fit. But I hope canon starts to embrace heart bang Ramu more and more ;-;

It was late, but it couldn't be helped. As much as Kensaku loved to skip out on meetings and slack off, there were moments when he had to prioritize his job over his family and friends. And unfortunately, the Saitama Division leader's birthday was an instance where he could not escape his responsibilities for her.

Thankfully, Kensaku had chosen his friends well, as the gentle leader understood his situation completely. To make up for the unlucky timing, the two, alongside the genius doctor from Shinjuku, Jakurai Jinguji, arranged to go out for drinks to celebrate Sayaka's birthday, albeit belated. As much as Kensaku begged in their texts for Jakurai to join them in the alcoholic beverages, the doctor stood firm he would simply watch the other two and act as the designated driver.

Simple enough, right? That's at least what Kensaku thought, ignoring the butterflies that erupted in his gut. Setting his phone down on his work desk, he returned to his desktop, only to stare past the blinding letters of his report on the screen. The day could not come faster. The chance to see what he considered the two most attract- Dear! His two most dear friends were something he rarely got to experience. It's been some time since they all got to share a conversation, much less food or drinks. He had a hard time admitting that he really missed them. A lot.

Shaking his head, Kensaku did his best to ignore his intrusive thoughts. Thoughts he had been plagued with for nearly three years… Perhaps longer. Unfortunately, it's been getting harder and harder for the man to push down these feelings. But how was he supposed to go about it in the first place? So many factors conflicted with each other in Kensaku’s mind and it felt impossible to tackle it all at least, to him.

Again, he blinked at his screen and focused on the bold black text. It was best to push these woes aside. He didn't want to ruin Sayaka's night with his selfish desires. Nor did he want to sour his work-relation with Jakurai. Just push it down and ignore it. He's kept it up for years, what another year of unspoken feelings?

“I love you guyyyysssss…!”

Well.

Shit.

The scientist looked completely stunned by the words that had slipped out. That was never meant to come out, especially a good hour or so into Sayaka's belated birthday celebration. Drinking for Jakurai's share was probably a bad idea, but Kensaku could not dwell on it when the panic alarms were blaring in his head.

He leaned into Jakurai, who was nursing a glass of vegetable juice whilst a slightly tipsy Sayaka sat on the opposite side of the doctor with her own drink. While Jakurai was more preoccupied trying to sit the blue haired man upright, Sayaka seemed equally surprised by the words. She tried to laugh it off half-heartedly, peering around the tall purple-haired man to smile at Kensaku down the bar. “I told you, you shouldn't drink so fast, Kensaku-san.”

“Don't mind Sayaka-san. Here, you should slow down.” Jakurai simply tuts at the bluenette, taking his drink and replacing it with a cool glass of water.

Staring down at the cup, Kensaku pouts childishly, earning a giggle from Sayaka. Looking to her, Kensaku feels bad for becoming a mess so soon. It was hard to hold back, when he knew that his drunk self could effortlessly pull those beautiful sounds from her. Still, he would hate to ruin her day with his mistakes. Sheepishly, he mumbles out his apology. “I'm sorry, Sayaka…”

“It's fine, Kensaku-san! I'm happy that you're having fun. This means a lot to me that you both invited me out.” Sayaka beams at Kensaku, before looking up to chat with Jakurai.

As the two exchanged polite conversation about their children and their work, Kensaku rested his face against his forearm to silently admire the two. The way the bar lights shone perfectly on their hair, the twinkle in their eyes as they reminisced on their personal history. And god, how much he wanted to kiss them. If only they didn’t take his true feelings as a joke.

Of course Jakurai sees his antics as a joke. They've been friends for so long, that doctor has tolerated even worse jokes from Kensaku. Same would go for Sayaka. It should be no surprise that Kensaku’s accidental confession was easily taken as a joke. A chance for Kensaku to brush his mistake under the rug, to continue wallowing in his unrequited feelings. But… It hurt. Being dismissed like that. And his drunken brain wanted to stand up for himself despite the fact a good amount of time had passed since Kensaku's drunken admission.

It was Sayaka who noticed the researcher struggling to sit back up from his position leaned against the oak table. It was before she could ask if he was alright, that Kensaku immediately started grabbing at Jakurai's arm to pull the focus onto himself. Unlike the many other times the group has spent drinking, the typical gullible drunken smile Kensaku would sport was replaced with that of fierce determination.

“I'm being serious. I love you, Jakurai.”

Jakurai chuckles softly as he responds in kind, “As do I, Kensaku-san. I cherish our friend-”

Before he could utter that one dreaded word, Jakurai's words were halted when Kensaku suddenly lifted him by the lapel of his coat to his feet.

“Not like that!”

“Kensaku-san?” Sayaka titters nervously.

Jakurai could only look down at the drunken man, taken aback by the ambush. Unlike Sayaka, he was speechless, simply taking in the words that Kensaku can't help but slur.

“N-Not as friends… I don't want to be friends. I want…” If Kensaku's face wasn't flushed already, he would be smoldering red now as he pushed his deepest thoughts out his mind and through his mouth. “I want you Jakurai. I wanna be with you-!”

Suddenly all strength seems to slip from his leg and Kensaku stumbles forward into Jakurai. Thankfully the taller man is able to catch him, a slight pink shade beginning to bloom on his face. This was getting messy, and fast. If Kensaku wasn't going to sober up with some water, the air outside might do better the doctor concluded.

“Sayaka-san, I-”

“I-It's fine! Here, let me help pay for the drinks.” Sayaka tries to escape the situation, completely baffled by the drunken man's actions. However, before she or Jakurai can say anything, Kensaku suddenly grips Sayaka’s wrist and pulls her towards the men.

“You too. I love youuu…”

Now everyone seemed to be at a loss for words. Jakurai's grip slacks as Kensaku stumbles towards the brunette, curling his arms around her smaller frame in contentment. Softly in her ear, yet loud enough for Jakurai to hear, Kensaku groans. “Stay with me for a little, sweetheart… Jakurai can take care of us. Isn't that right~?”

That teasing reminder was enough for Jakurai to pull himself together and take advantage of the distraction, quickly paying their tab. Taking Kensaku back from Sayaka and having him lean his weight onto him, Kensaku mumbles those damned words again. The doctor was finally getting it. Kensaku wasn't joking. He 'loves' him. But what was that about Sayaka? 

Sayaka is apologizing profusely so Jakurai can lead the way out, all while Kensaku is shouting his confession out the bar with unabashed happiness. This was definitely not what was planned for tonight. The three are all red-faced, despite the fact only one of them was fully plastered from the booze.

Making their way to Kensaku’s car, the two help get Kensaku into the back of the vehicle. It took quite a bit of work, with Kensaku acting much more clingy than ever before with the two of them. Eventually, though, the drunken fool is fastened into the back of the van, and Jakurai and Sayaka are able to sit in the front.

The van washes over in silence. The little hiccups of Kensaku are the only sound that breaks the awkward atmosphere. Jakurai looks over at Sayaka, who is running her hands over her face to confirm the fact her face is heated. They both were blushing. Flustered even, by the drunken man.

It was Sayaka who broke the ice first, “Kensaku-san?”

“Mmm?”

“D-Did you… I mean, who are you confessing to?”

That seemed to bring pause to the man, who slumped against the window of the car. Taking a moment to sort through the jumble of thoughts in his brain, Kensaku finally settled on his answer with a lopsided smile. “Both~”

“You mean…” Jakurai whispers.

“I love you b-both, Sayaka and Jakurai!” He states seriously, between a hiccup. “I-I want to be with both of you. I c-can’t pick… I want to be selfish. I want both of youuu...”

Well that answered it. The two front passengers looked at each other's crimson faces, unsure of what to do or say.

Minutes went by before Jakurai wordlessly starts the car and began to drive. As time passed, the drunken mumblings from Kensaku started to fade, they were replaced by light snoring sounds. Sayaka looks back bashfully, watching the man sleep. How were they supposed to handle this situation? She had an inkling that he had felt something more for her, but for Jakurai as well? How peculiar that he was stuck with the dilemma of picking between the two of them… Could this be a resolution to her own romantic plight? But that would mean Jakurai would have to love both of them back equally.

Amid her contemplation, Sayaka's attention was brought to the slow halt of the car. Looking out the window, she noticed that Jakurai had gone to her home to drop her off before Kensaku.

Unbuckling her seatbelt, the brunette goes to open the door only to be greeted by the purple-haired man doing it for her as he politely escorts her. Out the car and down the walk to her house, Sayaka stops at her door and takes a deep breath.

“Look, Jakurai-san.” Sayaka begins, “If Kensaku-san doesn't remember anything, do you-”

“No.” Jakurai retorts back bluntly. “No, I… This isn’t something we can just ignore.”

“A-Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

“But what if-”

“Would you be opposed to being in a relationship? The three of us, that is.”

For the umpteenth time, Sayaka was taken aback. Jakurai reciprocated both their feelings? Genuinely?

“Y-You?”

“I was originally interested in you, Sayaka. For years, I held romantic feelings for you. But recently I began to feel for Kensaku in the same way… To think he was facing the same problem,” Jakurai almost sighs in relief, chuckling to himself in disbelief. “...It eases me to know that it was mutual between us.”

It takes a moment before Sayaka can find it in herself to speak and stop gaping. “Jakurai, I…”

“Sayaka.” Jakurai stops her, clutching her hands as he gazes down at her amber eyes with his own icy blue hues. “I want you to save your response for tomorrow. I'd like for us to sort this issue properly. The three of us together.”

She frowns, but nods in understanding. It's best to tackle their relationship with a clear mind. Both Kensaku and Sayaka had alcohol in their system, unprepared to make such a huge decision. That said, she gives a disappointed smile to Jakurai as she speaks. “Then keep him safe, Jakurai.”

“I promise.”

With that, Jakurai departs from the Miyuki residence leaving Sayaka to stand idly in her doorway. It took quite a bit of harsh whispering from Lola to finally drag her into the house. Despite the model’s hushed prying for juicy details from the night, for once Sayaka was too caught up in her thoughts to properly answer any of her questions. After all, she just might be able to earn the love she craved from the two men she had been pining for.

Official? Yeah, I guess. Hope this works out and now they can immediately get married lmao

he tries his hardest but Ichiro can't make it the whole month. it's the teasing that makes him lose in the end. he lasts a good two weeks before he does give into your teasing and finally sink into you. he can't even scold you for the unfairness of the challenge because you just feel so good.

Samatoki likes to think that he could go the whole month until he realizes it's actually hard. he doesn't realize how hard it'll be since he'd be under the impression that he's not even allowed to do anything remotely close to sex with you. it's more funny not clarifying it and watching him struggle whenever you tease the shit out of him. He'll last a week, maybe a week and a half if he really tries but he just can't seem to resist you.

Ramuda will do it only if you agree to as well. the whole month is filled with teasing between the two of you to see who will break down and beg to get fucked by the other first. Towards the end of the challenge he gets more whiny and wants you to lose so it could go one of two ways. he either makes it nearly the whole month or breaks down and loses three and a half weeks in.

a man with the most self control you'll ever see, Jakurai can go the whole month with no problems. He didn't get into a relationship with you to fuck you so it wasn't a problem at all. You might think asking him to finger or pleasure you during the month will affect him but he's completely unaffected by it. He'll follow through with the challenge no matter what you may try.

Sasara is busy with comedy work so he thought he'd complete it easily. Wrong. He finds your teasing amusing sometimes until you start getting physical. When your hands start wandering a little too far down and into his pants, he starts wondering if the whole "no nut november" thing is really worth it. In the end, he can only last a little over half of the month.

Kuko can complete the whole month without fail. he is a monk after all and shouldn't have any attachments and patience. he simply does it to prove a point that he doesn't need to fuck you at all to show he loves you. even with your endless teasing throughout the month, he still gets it done and you better believe he'll take you for a wild ride right on the 1st of December.

A/N: Thank you so much for your request! I love getting HypMic requests and this one was so cute! I hope you like it! I really enjoyed writing it!

It was Jakurai's idea to invite you over for tea. He had gotten a lot closer to you in the past few weeks and he really wanted to get to know more about you. Of course, when Hifumi caught wind of the doctor's plans, he tried to plan the whole affair. But Jakurai was firm in his insistence that he would handle this little tea party on his own. Though he pouted, Hifumi did ask to be filled in on all the details afterwards, which he agreed to as an attempt to pacify him.

Before you arrived, Jakurai made sure his apartment was spotless. He picked the best dishes, made tasty little treats, and brewed his best blend of tea. A wave of anxiety rushed over him and he wasn't quite sure as to why. Eventually, he chalked it up to just being anxious over spending time with someone he didn't know a lot about and wanting to make a good impression so they could continue their relationship.

When you knocked on the door, he warmly welcomed you. You returned his greeting with a bright smile that seemed to glow in the afternoon sun. Your smile and your gorgeous spring dress made his heart skip a beat. That's when he realized where the anxiety was actually coming from. He was interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with you, and today's meeting would decide whether or not you'd be compatible with each other.

You complimented his apartment, mentioning how you liked the decor and how welcoming the atmosphere seemed. He thanked you and directed you to where you would be having tea. You perched on one of his easy chairs, and Jakurai couldn't help but imagine you always sitting there, claiming it as your spot. You were sitting in the perfect place where the sun softly shone on your hair and you could see everything in the room without too much effort. It was the optimal spot for comfort and functionality. He wanted you to use that chair every time you came over.

After pouring you a cup of tea, you complimented the taste and smell of the brew. He explained how he got such a fragrant and sweet tea by combining his favorite tea leaves and getting the right measurements to make the perfect cup of tea. You listened intently, even leaning in as if what he was saying was the most fascinating thing in the world. He couldn't help but become completely enamored with you. He knew right then and there, he was sunk.

Eventually, the topic of conversation moved on to your work and how things were going at your job. It was Jakurai's turn now to listen to you with fascination. He found he wasn't bored with what you were discussing, even if you yourself did. He liked the sound of your voice. It was pleasing to the ear and just the right amount of animation. He was truly smitten by you and he didn't want this lovely tea party to end.

It wasn't until the sun was getting low in the sky that you decided to call it a night. Halfway through the tea party, when the tea had run dry, you both switched to coffee. While Jakurai himself wasn't a fan, he was pleasantly surprised to see you liked both coffee and tea. Though it wasn't that big of a deal, to him it felt like an intimate detail about you. He now knew how you took your tea and your coffee, meaning he could make you a drink and know exactly how you liked it. 

Now, Jakurai is a gentleman, so of course he insisted on walking you home. You only lightly protested, but allowed him to nonetheless. Again, the two of you talked about anything and everything under the sun as you walked to your apartment. He loved engaging conversation. You always knew exactly what to say. He couldn't help but wonder if this was what falling in love felt like. Regardless of if it was or not, he knew he never wanted to let go.

When you reached your apartment, you shyly bid him good night but did not go in. It was as if you were waiting for something. And he was waiting for it too. So he came right out and said it.

"My dear, would you be willing to go out on a date with me next week?"

"Why, Dr. Jakurai. I thought you'd never ask!"

With that, you pressed a soft, pleasant kiss to his cheek, bid him good night once more, and slipped into your apartment building.

Jakurai, on the other hand, was frozen on the steps. His hand went to his cheek to lightly trace where your lips had just been. He didn't expect that. It seems you were still full of surprises with him. And he wanted to experience all of the surprises you had to offer for the rest of his life.

So with a self-contented smile, Jakurai began to walk back to his apartment, thinking of all the different date spots he could take you. And of course, as soon as he arrived home, he told Hifumi and Doppo everything.

Slug! Do you have any specific character interactions you want to see? Like two characters who rarely or have never interacted with each other you think would be fun to see interact?

Hmm... Not off the top of my head. Let me make some up.

I actually think Hifumi and Riou would get on amazingly in more casual settings than their one interaction in Mixed Up. They're both quite active (Hifumi apparently goes to the gym regularly, and it's well-known that he enjoys fishing) and have a deep love of cooking. Hifumi's also pretty low-key when Doppo's not around, so I think the two of them could go backpacking for a week and be cool about it. You know?

Samatoki and Kuukou don't interact a ton one-on-one in MCD, but there's a lot that could be explored in relation to their close, but not identical, takes on family and violence.

Similarly, Kuukou and Sasara do interact a little, but I love every second of it and would like to see more. The sort of senpai persona Sasara makes for himself with Ichirou and Kuukou is a fascinating one, and Kuukou is the biggest li'l shit of a kouhai. I love how he keeps trying to get Sasara to pay for everything.

Nemu and Kuukou would be fun to see too, although I genuinely don't know if it would be like, "You wanna get stronger? Gya ha ha, fuck yeah, dude! I love me a strong bitch! Y'know what? I do this thing where I go up into the mountains and train under waterfalls and shit 'til I'm jacked as hell. If you think you've got the balls, you should join me next time" or like, "Yo, can you film me real quick? Ichirou bet me five hundred yen I can't armpit fart the alphabet."

I would like to see Jakurai politely and thoroughly eviscerate Doppo's manager.

Saburou and Hitoya would be a bloodbath. I would really, really like to see it.

Can we get Ramuda making doll clothes for Amanda? A more positive canon Ramuda and Juushi interaction would be tight.

Sort of an odd one, but I feel like Roshou could genuinely have a really positive influence on Ichirou. Ichirou's out of school by now, but it's apparent that he still doesn't have many adult role models or the wherewithal to consider his dreams and goals outside of basic survival and ensuring his brothers' success. I think Roshou would sympathize with being a teenage punk to strike back against the man, and given his commitment to helping young people chase their dreams, he seems like he'd be a good, steady influence towards helping Ichirou focus on himself as he navigates young adulthood.

Rei and Gentarou vs Dice. :) I'm so sorry, Dice. You're not getting out of that one alive.

Once they get over the whole "There're two things I can't stand. One, [questionable food decision here]. Two, teenagers," bit, I think Jirou and Hitoya have the opportunity to make for interesting interactions. Jirou's pretty justice-driven too, and it's the music connection which makes me think this could work well.

Juuto and any of the nasty, nasty Chuuouku ladies make for incredible encounters. Please, let's have more of them.
