Being a superhero and a normal person with a normal-ish life was not for the faint of heart. You spent your days working in the local history museum, your afternoons getting whatever sleep you could, and your nights sitting by the police scanner, waiting for news of some rogue giant robot or guy with a freeze gun. As it was, you were in no position to expose your identity. Not even to your partner.

Your mission partner, that was, the Blue Beetle.

You’d been fighting crime with him for the past three years, a few times every week. It had started as an accident. He’d show up to the same crime scenes you did, helping evacuate people out of burning buildings, stopping rampaging mutants from the questionable labs popping up around town, redirecting a plane with a broken propeller. It was admirable. He was admirable.

You’d never seen his face. You didn’t even know his first name. You knew his power came from the scarab in his back, an alien symbiote that was bonded to his body. It talked to him sometimes, like a computer, analyzing things. It also served as body armor and a built in artillery of weapons.

The scarab saved his ass a lot, basically. And yours, too. You couldn’t count the amount of times he’d saved you from blows you’d never seen coming.

Which is why you were so surprised to hear a knock on your door, Beetle’s voice on the other side of it sounding…worried.

“Suncatcher? Are you home? I…I…I need some help!”

You were surprised to hear it at all, actually. You didn’t think he knew where you lived.

Also, you weren’t in costume, just in a cropped tee and some sweats, hair pulled back and face bare. Not that your mask covered a lot of your face, but it gave you anonymity. Or at least, you thought it did.

You pushed the thoughts aside when you heard him knock again, preparing for the very real possibility that someone had cloned his voice and was using your public-ish friendship against you.

You lit your fist with power and crept towards the door of your townhouse, peering through the peephole to find…nothing. You pulled the door open slowly and looked around. Sitting on the cement outside your door was a guy with luscious black curls, and, more importantly, a giant gaping wound on his stomach.

“S-Suncatcher?” He asked, meeting your eyes, tears brimming in his own.

“Oh my God.” You dropped to your knees, looking over him. “What happened?”

“Y-you’re…?”

“I didn’t know where else to go…” He confessed.

“How long have you been out there?” You asked, assessing the injury.

You took a breath, grounding yourself before tapping deeper into your powers, sunlight lit in your palms, creeping up your arms. “Alright Blue, I need to get in there.”

“Jaime. My name is Jaime.” He told you, pain etched across his handsome features. “Nice to finally meet you, sunshine. Wish it was under better circumstances.”

“Nice to meet you, too.” You replied, too preoccupied to offer your name in return. You gently lifted the fabric from his battered torso, revealing the wound. It was pretty bad, but it wouldn’t be for long. Using the power from your patron, you extended your hand, your glowing sunlight working to close the wound with warmth and precision.

Jaime watched, his eyes wide. He stared at you as you set to work. It tingled, the spot in his abdomen, where he’d been stabbed repeatedly by a guy with a glowing green sword. But it didn’t hurt anymore. And less than a minute later, it wasn’t there at all, completely smoothed over without so much as a scar.

You turned your attention to his face, where there was a cut across his nose, a purpled bruise on his chin.

If Khaji was online, he was sure she’d tell him about his increased heartrate due to your proximity, that focused look in your eye as you soothed his pain away. But she wasn’t. That was a problem he’d have to solve later.

The glow in your palms dimmed and you met his eyes, looking relieved. “Any other injuries I should know about?”

“Nah, I think that about covers it.” He replied, still staring at you. Maybe he’d never stop. “How did you…?”

“My patron, Apollo. The god of…well, lots of stuff, but healing is one of them. I’ll leave him an offering later.” You explained. “He’s pretty chill, as far as deities go. Met him when I got my job at the museum and, well, the rest is history.”

“That’s really cool.” He said, sitting up without trouble. “I didn’t know that.”

“I guess it never came up.” You shrugged. “My name is (Y/N), by the way. Would have introduced myself earlier if I wasn’t so busy trying to prevent you from bleeding out in my apartment.”

“Thanks for that, by the way.”

You smiled. “Don’t mention it.”

He took in your face, seeing most of it for the first time. He smiled, eyes soft and sparkling, voice dropping to a whisper. “You’re really pretty, (Y/N).”

“Jaime!” You leapt to your feet, walking around the edge of the desk and straight into his arms.

"5 minutes til new years everybody!" Rudy shouts over the music as he laughs loudly then takes a swig of his beer. You snuck away from the crowd and headed towards Jaime's room for a little breather. You walk over to his mirror and start fixing your hair a little.

"Hey there you are babe" Jaime says as he walks into the room and shut the door, quieting the chaos that was happening. "Hey handsome" You said as you walk over to him and began fixing his collar. "Hi babygirl" He compliments back, hands resting on your hips.

You smile at him before leaning forward and start kissing him slowly. He places a hand on your cheek and began kissing you back slow and sensually. "Mmm" You moan a little into the kiss and he pulls you closer to him, one hand in your hair and the other on your ass.

"Fuck princess" Jaime groans as he breaks off the kiss and began kissing along your neck, leaving hickeys in the process.

You two met while he was on campus. He saw you at some event, welcoming the freshman or something like that. He couldn’t remember, but he remembered you. Decked out in everything pink, you were beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. He wanted to talk to you. To introduce himself to you. To get to know you.

Speaking of makeup though…

You wore it. Lots of it. Of course you’d be wearing pink but you would switch it up. Though the color would always be bright and colorful. You weren’t a pastel type of gal.

You would force Jaime to be your personal bag carrier when you go on shopping sprees to the mall. His limit was 5 bags per hand, even when you begged. He cheered you up with some boba and ice cream though.

Eventually, most of your stuff was in his room. Your scattered clothes in his dorm room and your make up items all over his dresser and bathroom counter.

And obviously this habit of yours carried over to when you and Jaime went home for spring break. It was a pleasant surprise that the both of you lived in the same state, nevermind the same city.

Which leads to…

“Jaime Reyes, get here right now!” Jaime heard his mother, Bianca yell at him.

Jaime ran over to his mother fast, the urgency in her voice had him thinking the worst; maybe there was a spider or a robber

He asked you if you wanted to ride with him, hesitant you were but you didn´t want to seem like a pussy. "U-uhm..." you started to sweat as the thought of going on a really high rollercoaster. "Sure!...Why not" You awkwardly smiled. As you were going to line up, Jaime held your hand and led you somewhere else. "Let's go somewhere else, how about you go to the gift store to relax. Okay?"

He chuckled and pressed a kiss on your forehead. "I just love seeing you so happy, baby"

Jaime Reyes! refusing to let you become a hero. He fears that you'll be targeted even more as a hero. As much as he wants what Nightwing and Starfire have, he doesn't want your life to be at risk. Also, he's too much of an asshole to let you save him in any incident.

Jaime Reyes! tried teaching you Spanish but ended up teaching you the bad words instead. Which then results in you blurting those words out without thinking before you speak. Words you learned were, "chinga tu madre", "puta", "puta madre", Yk the basics... Brenda hates it though. She wants you to stay "innocent".

Jaime Reyes! being terrible at school, so you two plan study dates at his/your place. Study dates then turning into cuddle sessions.

“Soo how does it taste?” You awkwardly handed the plate of freshly made tacos to Jaime. You spent hours learning how to home make tacos, tortilla included. He took a bite and smiled. He looked at you and spoke with food still in his mouth, “Taste really good, mi amor…Don’t tell mi mama but this might be better than her homemade tacos.”

- this apartment is not just yours. Bart is always there. Always. You could wake up in the middle of the night and find this speedster stealing popsicles from the freezer. "you're friend is here." "he's not my friend until 8am." "he's eating all my popsicles, Jaime." - medical text books everywhere. You find Jaime hunched over them no matter where he is. His notes frequently get scattered, and you find them in the weirdest places. Like the fridge or wedged between the dryer and washer- he's usually so organized too. - fighting over what language to watch animated movies in. - He makes the best enchiladas on the planet and always knows when you're craving them. - you get so used to the chittering and chattering from Khaji Da, that you don't even notice it anymore. It's nearly a soothing sound. - Khaji Da can pick up when your time of the month is hitting, so Jaime always knows when you need extra patience. He's a bit blushy about it, but he's always up to make you tea, bring you your favorite comfort food or cuddle you when you need it. - Milargo spends the night sometimes- you make tacos, and keep her busy while he studies. usually by making cookies and watching cartoons. - You're never cold at night cause even without the scarab, Jaime is always warm. But you're never hot either, cause with Khaji Da, Jaime's body temp can also be lowered to make it more comfortable. - spur of the moment flights to wherever you want to go.
