Sometimes I think about Jacques. I know it's most likely a niche inside joke between the developers since he is an animal that they had to program and create to just eat off of corpses in dead dawg but. I also just think about maybe Jacques was named by Caleb? Was he named after an actual person? Did Caleb just hear the name and just liked it?
If Caleb did name the vulture, the vultures have to mean something to him right? Even if they're like the crows in trials, it's still a piece of "home".
God damnit bhvr please for the love of God give us more lore and introspection into Caleb and how he thinks PLEASE

323 - Rust and Bone

For New Years week, the auld acquaintance that won't be forgot on our show is... a grim French drama about broken bodies. In 2012, Jacques Audiard returned to Cannes with Rust and Bone starring Marion Cotillard and Matthias Schoenaerts as reluctant lovers healing through personal tragedies. The film left Cannes with no prizes but with a lot of buzz for Cotillard, which came on strong throughout the precursor season. But with a Best Actress field in flux, a few surprise ascendant nominations left an early contender like Cotillard in the dust.
This episode, we talk about our experience of liking the film less on rewatch and the trend of Cannes films becoming Oscar players in the past decade. We also talk about our issues with Emilia Perez, the film missing out on being the French International Feature submission, and the season that led to Cotillard's Best Actress win for La Vie En Rose.
Topics also include Katy Perry, the 2012 Cannes lineup, and Audiard's Palme for Dheepan.

I'm happy to share with you the Aceslinger hook
"Finally, I have them all"

Okay, so...
I received the "Ace's Wild" charm, which I thought it was not possible since it was a newsletter reward I wasn't aware of until it was already too late. But, thanks to a bug or Behaviour's sudden display of generosity, it is here, and I'm finally able to complete my Aceslinger hook.
So, here it is:

Hey, I know it's not much, but it's about sending a message... I guess.
or just because it makes me happy since Aceslinger is one my favorite ships
Anyway, these are the charms I used (in case you're interested in charming any random Ace you meet in your lobbies):
The sexy most important charm:

The "killer style" engaging charm:

The "I wanted Jacques the Vulture, but I can't be picky" charm:

(this last one is part of the PG-13 version, if you forget about the previous charm oc)
As an extra, there's a variation where, instead of the raven I use the elk antlers:

Not just because of the Wild West theme, but because of the +18 "horny" joke.
(Thanks, @dweetwise. It's been more than a year and I can't get over that Deathslinger's oxen outfit joke).

John Phillips was still grumpy about the trio having taken a break without asking during the spring fair and the "irredeemable" criminal Connor was the subject of much gossip in Fort Detroit. That's why John borrowed six sets of manacles at the fort and chained the convicts together by their ankles to prevent them from leaving the fields.
Hunger, cold and the outhouse shrubs made working almost impossible whenever the farmhands entered "Very Uncomfortable" territory.
Daniel with his love for the outdoors and Chris with hisp reference for cold temperatures lasted a little longer than the other three, but even they hit their limits eventually.
Trouble was, John had witnessed Chris selling his sunday suit to Jacques Villareal. He knew the convicts had money and therefore sold them bread instead of providing it for free.
Gavin could only get described as keen as mustard during this time. He took to his new position as overseer, that he fulfilled in addition to his tasks around the Phillips residence, with a passion that didn't endear him to his former friends.
What even is he doing in this screenie? He looks like a vulture waiting for Tina to drop dead!

Cannes Daily Dispatch 5
A bientôt,
Mark

okay I have dug deep into my bird knowledge and googled a lot and came up with more birds bc I CANNOT stop thinking about birdelaires
So originally bea is a blue jay bc they are stylish and fancy, moderately violent, and good at mimicry (they will imitate hawks to scare away other blue jays so they get more food.)
Bertrand is a cat bird, very sleek and cute, also in the mockingbird family, they imitate the silliest little cat noise and it's so funny but they also have a very sweet natural bird call
The kids are dark eyed juncos, in the sparrow family and just very small and cute
Lemony is a mourning dove, they're EVERYWHERE and have one of the most identifiable calls especially when you don't always see them, and i think they sound very soft. I did consider a crow, BUT. //Mourning// dove.
The quagmires are indigo buntings -- tiny!!!! blue!!!!! Baby!!!!!
Carmelita is a whip-poor-whill -- have you ever heard a whip-poor-whill. they........are kind of irritating
Fiona is a varied thrush, because I always associate her with the color orange?
(Fernald is a townsend's solitaire, because they're in the thrush family, and i think the feet stand out and look a little, hook-y, although that's true of most birds, really)
Esme is a steller's jay -- vaguely similar to the blue jay, and INCREDIBLE to look at.
Kit and jacques are probably also mourning doves
Jerome is a regular pigeon. because. he's. a pigeon
Theodora is a western crowned pigeon, for the Hair of it all
the denouements are crows!!
Olaf, okay now I think it would be neat if he was a turkey vulture -- a scavenger, a hovering specter of death, but I think olaf disparages the good, sweet sweet name of the turkey vulture?? SO. He's a seagull because I think that's the funniest thing in the world. Angry. Nosy. Will steal all your possessions.
Widdershins is of COURSE an albatross.
Hector is a blackbird, especially because they look like they have such big, permanently 'aaaaaa??' eyes.
Josephine is a chickadee, as they're one of the birds most likely to call warnings
Monty is a spangled cotinga, a very cool very bright blue bird whose range includes part of peru!!
R and Olivia are hummingbirds, bc I always think of them together and they're very colorful (for r) and very hurried and a little frantic (for olivia)
Nero is a club-winged manakin, a bird that can hit its wings together to create a little noise that sounds like, no lie, a tinny little violin. They also look puffy and pompous.
Georgina is I think a great blue heron? stabby beak. very tall
the man with no hair/woman with hair are of course eagles
oh babybea!! babybea is a bluebird, since they represent hope.

@whoslaurapalmer birdelaires....
#lulu talks about the sad lemon man#i got VERY invested in birds. thanks for playing the bird game kam#i think i got everyone?? nearly

Greeting visitors on the East Terrace of the museum is “Prometheus Strangling the Vulture,” an alternate telling of the Greek myth where the hero overcomes the bird—a metaphor for overcoming adversity that reflects the struggles of contemporary society. “Prometheus Strangling the Vulture,” begun 1943, cast 1952–53, by Jacques Lipchitz © The Estate of Jacques Lipchitz, courtesy Marlborough Gallery, New York

Elegy Just in Case by Richard Jackson
The end approaches, but the apocalypse is long lived. —Jacques Derrida, "Of an Apocalyptic Tone"
The river's down again, the boat piers loom over the mud. An emptiness so vast I can't tell if I am in it or it in me. As when I am barred from my own dreams. Most of our lives we live backwards. What I didn't say stalks me. What I neglected waits in the trees with the vultures.
There are chasms in the words I have for this. There is my old heart shuttered with denial.
It is as if the lost names rise now from the mud.
One of them arrives with his hands full of hours. One arrives as a Luna moth at the back door. Another knows his imagination contains his future. Another, the eternity he dreams won't last for long. Yet another, how we once walked on our knuckles.
On this starless night even the wind wants to be visible. It is their dreams that have dropped anchor in my own. As when the boy in Croatia marked the poor stone grave with a simple prayer fingered with the mud at his knees, and whose words trembled with a flash of wind. My own words are dredging the river bed. The piers reach out towards the trapped skiffs. What they search for is a time where our dreams begin, the river mud giving up its secrets, stumps trying once again to be trees, a pair of boots someone must have lost overboard before the drought, the salamanders emerging, a few glistening stones pretending to be islands, the shadow of the heron sweeping the surface, unable to find a proper ending.
