i keep listening to music that reminds me of you. and it almost makes me feel a little pathetic that every time, it just fills me with so much relief. do you even like surf rock anymore? i know you did then but i was just kind of whatever about it; i'd just listen to it knowing that it was something you liked.

i like it now, though. is it because of you? i guess it's impossible to say for sure, but damned if it doesn't make me miss you more.

Hey, buddy.

Being a good person is a mix of an instinct for humans and a discipline to not let petty, temporary emotions control your actions. Don’t try and focus too much on the big picture, and instead look at smaller things. Helping bugs and worms make it to the grass, giving people in need money or food, lending someone you’re close with your jacket for a day. All of these things can help one improve.

Heck, the fact that you’ve come to someone, the fact that you made the conscious choice to tell someone you want to be a better person is a sign that you’re willing to improve, and that’s an important step.

You’re already on the right path, Jacket. Keep it up!

hey. jackass. i don't think about you often but when i do, i always get this weird melancholic feeling so i'm sending something in about it so i can stop thinking about it so much (...and maybe also in the hopes you'll see it one day, but i realize that's just wishful thinking).

i wish we killed each other, sometimes. would've made life so much easier for the both of us, and that makes me feel guilty knowing that she would've never known what happened to me. but at least she'd still be alive. i don't know if you had anyone like that (fuck's sake, i don't know anything about you at all) but i'm hoping you understand.

do you still think of me? do you hate me as much as i hate you? don't worry, it's a very surface level kind of hate; i didn't know anything about you, after all. not much there for me too hate you for past the fact that you tried to cut me in half, but also i nearly caved part of your head in with a golf club so who's really to say? i still do hate you, though. i'm certain of that. it's ok if you hate me too, i don't mind; i think it's deserved. eye for an eye and all.

i hope this life is easier though, at least in some respects. i hesitate to make assumptions but if that snippet i saw of your side of things means anything, we were kind of the same i think. in that we were both just assholes fumbling through life and running on fumes. you seemed more put together about it than i did at least, so i guess there's that.

this is probably weird. to hear this all from me, i mean. i get that we only every met the one time, but that one time kind of screwed things over for both of us so i hope you'll forgive me for being weird about it.

hmm. before we were sent home, we traded a dog tag with each other, so he had one of mine and i had one of his. i don't know about him, since i didn't get to see him again before. yeah. but i never took my tags off, after that. especially after he passed, i just. i couldn't bring myself to take them off, i missed him so much.

i still do, were it not obvious enough. maybe i shouldn't but it's nice just thinking about him anyways. i just wanna tangle my fingers in his hair and kiss his face and have him hold me like he used to like everything's gonna be just fine....
