i’ve been slowly but surely rewatching the hobbit/lotr movies and jackal would love them. they’re probs his fav series. he’s probs a gigantic fantasy fan, he likes the action and the creativity and the woven nature of a fictional world. his fav game is botw so. he just loves something that was Created. he pretty much only plays open world go-at-your-own-pace sorts of games and really doesn’t like watching romance or comedy media, and regular action without fantastical elements bores him

dune would not like them. he thinks they are too long. he enjoys more modern-setting action movies. i’ve never seen the fast and furious movies but i think dune would like them. he likes guns and cars and fast pacing and things like that. he plays pvp games like fortnite (i know. i’m sorry if you’re a fortnite hater but ive been thinking about my ocs playing fortnite for like 2 years now), and cod and csgo and hes probably played overwatch before

carrion likes fantasy. he would be so very down for a movie marathon of those movies. his fav genre is romance and he cries very easily. anything soft and sweet or slow and romantic or full of joy he’s crying. he is really not good at video games. he likes mario kart! and he has a tamagotchi that he’s very very fond of

locust loves rom coms. he also just likes watching straight stand up and other comedy. he’ll watch anything though and likely enjoy it. he is strangely incredibly good at video games. he has to nerf himself to be allowed to play multiplayer games with dune because dune is SO competitive and it pisses him off to no end when locust beats him. he doesn’t even game often it’s just a mysterious power he was born with

After over 1000+ hours tanking and 400+ healing I decided it was time to give DPS a try. Been having some good games on Pharah and I play a lot of D.Va/Winston/Lucio so I’m used to being sneaky and flying around the map.

So I go up against a new account last night. I used to be fairly cautious of smurfs but after learning their tricks unless they’re legit T500 or hacking I usually can figure out a way to beat them. Basically was getting 3-4 kills on this person for every one death on my end. I wasn’t even intentionally focusing them, they just kept being out of position which are easy kills on Pharah. 

After the like 3rd or 4th time I sent them back to spawn they said “ok jackal it’s on” and I’m like FUCKKKKK cause now I have to deal with someone who’s salty and focusing me. I swear, they spent the entire rest of the game flaming in general chat every time I killed them. I had gold elims most of the game because of this fool, and it’s not like I had a pocket because my healers were both grounded so I had to either find health packs or come down when it was safe. Their other DPS focused me a few times and this fool was thanking their DPS in general for killing me a couple times, which prompted my tanks to hard focus that person so I could keep working 😂

Anyway, we go three rounds on Oasis. The last round I was Mei/Reaper for a bit but that wasn’t working and the 2 times McSalty finally killed me was crouch spamming on my body. Again, I had lost count of how many times I sent this person to spawn at this point and they were specifically counter picking to counter me so I was like ‘eh fuck it’ and went back on Pharah. Our Brig switched to Zenyatta and clutches the point when they had 99% progress and we had 0% on the last map and we hold it to 99% and win. 

I didn’t say shit until the end of the game and dropped a “you were saying?” in general because I had enough of homies BS the WHOLE game. Which they then proceeded to say “your team carried” and “im butter than you” (yes butter) and I was just like “deal with it” and that was the end of it lol.

Idk how DPS players will buy 20 accounts, and then get mad for losing ONE game, but all I’m saying is playing tank and healer makes you smarter than the average DPS player, and it makes other DPS very angry.

[it's been a very, very long time since I've written for any fandom, never mind Overwatch, so I wanted to repost here something I drabbled in Discord for a near and dear friend of mine.

And saying that I feel the need to preface it with a little OOC blurb as I'll be using tags for this drabble and quite frankly I'm too old and tired for the usual discourse that comes with the bullshit of a small, insignificant niche of gatekeeping jackals that yip and yap over every little mote of annoyance they snatch out of context. So to all those mangey jackals, kindly fuck off, block me and continue to circle your drain of ugly hatred and loathing elsewhere, thanks.

I withdrew from Overwatch well before all the bad shit that went down with Blizzard, Activision. I do not and will never condone the heinous and disgusting actions that were finally brought to light, and I will always support victims and witnesses to come forth and speak up and report the injustices that have been wrought upon them.

With that being said, I left the fandom long before Jesse was retcon'd and Cole overwrote the lore. I don't care who the IRL person was, nor do I care to know anything about the person that they are, insofar as they reap the consequences their actions have sown. Justice will be served. But Jesse McCree will always be Overwatch's BAMF gunslinger outlaw, and will never be any sort of IRL reflection for me. Jesse McCree will always be Gabriel Reyes' right hand man in Blackwatch and not some easily forgotten "who is this guy? he did what now? IRL? fuck that guy he doesn't deserve any sort of spotlight".

My Jesse McCree will always be my Reaper's.

Period.

I won't name swap.

I'll be keeping Jesse McCree for myself and my writing, reclaiming and claiming the name that just fits the character. There is no other Jesse McCree than Overwatch's, Blackwatch's, Deadlock's Jesse BAMF McCree.

Same shit, different year. Just numbers on someone's calendar, an agenda to weasel out and squash. It's not like he'd been ignorant of the date or the significance or the value of making appearances, it's just…

Distracted, determined, focused. Factors that play in measuring how fleeting time really does fly by. That and he'd wanted to just avoid people at all costs this year. Especially after the heat Blackwatch brought the whole organization. Moreso than usual at least.

A quick glance to his watch and a twinge in the pit of his gut that may or may not have been some sort of guilt has him sucking it up and making his way to where everything's cheery, merry, and bright. Maybe he'll be able to snag a bottle of something on the way back to his pile of bureaucracy and bullshit.

A habitual sweep of the festivities runs a headcount of the Usual Suspects milling about, noting who's missing but shrugs it off with mental nonchalance. He does his best to nod and grin that lopsided smarminess of his when greeted, passing through with handshakes and back slaps, quick hugs an pecks to the cheeks of those closest to him.

Artfully avoiding a certain someone while building up the New Years alibi.

Seconds tick by and there's no time left, nowhere to slink off to, he's caught in every sense of the word.

Their eyes meet and the off-tone vocalized Countdown from Ten is drowned out by that cheeky grin and glint in the younger man's eyes. His own reflects the same whorl and melange of threatening emotions, sentiments unspoken in their world of shadows. And there might just be a crinkle of crows feet upturned in something more than smirking amusement, even if his stern and tired features remain masked.

But nothing matters anymore when midnight strikes, taking whatever fight or flight his brain screams at him to engage in.

Yanked, an arm settles around the outlaw's waist, a rough hand comes up to card fingers through thick unkempt hair and scruff, and in his reciprocated kiss he tastes whiskey and ash, sour and sweet and smoky.

Same shit, different year.

But at least he's not alone now.

a White Mask member who slowly becomes disillusioned with the organization. A thief and a hacker, she's excellent at gathering Intel. A cold and calculating individual yet she still has her morals, she joined the white mask because she believes in their ideal, but after a certain operation she began questioning herself.

OC2: Rosario

A defensive operator from the a secret branch of the CIA. She did a lot a black ops and undercover operations. She is surprisingly friendly and upbeat for someone in her line of work, says humor helps her deal with what she saw. As for her gadget, I have a few ideas for those.

Before I answer this, I gotta credit @grain-crain-drain and @lecielazure cause we had a nice combo about this on Discord and they gave so many awesome ideas, like half of this is all their contribution 💜

As I mentioned in the hobbies hc post, Echo likes e-sports, and loves playing shooter games. Dokkaebia also loves gaming, even on her phone. Since I hc that she and Echo are friends, they absolutely have gaming nights together. And they actually managed to get their teammates Hibana and Vigil into Overwatch too. I love the idea that Vigil plays a certain character (d.va, accoring to grain-crain-drain​) better than Dokkaebi, who is jealous that Vigil stole her main. Eventually the group brings Ying in, to have a full team. At first Ying wasn’t enthused by the idea, since she tries to avoid spending time with Echo in her free time yes, she’s still sour with him, but she turns out to be really good at the game, and also really competitive. Trash talking and swearing in Cantonese kind of competitive 😄

Fuze has several portable consoles and loves puzzle games, like Bejeweled or Tetris. Speaking of which, all of the Spetsnaz have a friendly Facebook Tetris competition going on, and Fuze is the undisputed champion and Tachanka is a sore loser. He also played Pokemon Go, and that’s how he discovered that Mute is also a Pokemon fan.

Mute has been playing Pokem since forever, but otherwise isn’t very keen on playing games, at least alone. However, if invited to play with someone else, he will agree, since it’s a low social effort activity and also a way to make friends. He got invited by Dokkaebi and Ela to play RPGs, since Ela is a role-playing addict.

All of the GSG9 plays FIFA, and their group recently expanded to include Jackal and Caveira too. If one of them can’t play, Mute will sometimes act as a back up player. Aside from that, Bandit and Jäger also play Minecraft, and in all videogames you can expect them to try to trick and troll each other constantly.

Zofia plays Disney games with her daughter, occasionally getting frustrated at how hard those can sometimes be, “It’s supposed to be for kids, what bullshit is this?!” and refuses to give up until she has beaten the whole game.

The FBI play in group as well, either CS:GO or coo-op games like Overcooked. One way or another, it always ends up in disaster 😂

While everybody knows Caveira loves FIFA games, her best kept secret is how she can spend hours playing online dress up games or character creating ones like the picrew.me stuff.

Jackal plays on his phone a lot during his sleepless nights, and Doc has reprimanded him about it more than once, “I know you have insomnia, Ryad, but playing all night won't help you sleep! put the phone away ffs”. Since Doc threatened to take away his phone at night, Jackal now has a secret back-up phone for gaming. Montagne tried to help Doc with the issue and make Jackal listen to the voice of reason, but now Monty can’t stop playing Candy Crush and Doc blames Jackal for it.

(This was my 2nd shot on a par 4. I almost made an eagle from 110 yds away.) I think I’m insane. I can’t even fathom why this little ass ball keeps me up at night. (I swear if anyone makes a K9 joke. I will spawn the underworld on you.) All I want to do is to practice, practice, and practice. I’ve been really thinking about pursuing this as a career. I’m somewhat already preparing myself for it. I am going to do Long Drive Competitions. Basically, hitting the ball as far as you can with the driver. I’m the first person ever to be banned at this golf course for hitting over the fence.That fact didn’t hit me, until recently. Who would’ve thought the club I hate the most is going to be the club I use the most. Aside those Long Drive Competitions, this might sound a bit cocky, it’s not even a feeling anymore, the feeling transformed and evolved into something that’s attainable. I know I can do it. I started to love this god damn stick and ball game. I’ve been seriously working my butt off to get better. I’ve been taking everyone’s words to my heart that have really made me consider this as an actual career. ���What’s your name son? We wanna remember it when we see you on TV playing.” - Some dank old guys. “Who Knows, you might even go professional how well, and far you hit the ball.”- Past Professional Player “If you started practicing putting for two hours, you’ll become a professional easy!” - Cousin who’s almost a professional player. “You already chip it in then most of the guys that play.” - Grandpa who’s amazing. I didn’t like this sport for a long time. I was playing video games competitively more and I enjoyed it. I got to Champion 2 in Rocket League, Masters in Overwatch, reached ranked 50 skill rating in all of the ranked modes for Halo 3, except for one game mode, Max Rank in Halo Wars, was an insane bowler as a little kid, expert arcade player and pretty damn good at Dance Dance Revolution. I’ve been good at a lot of games, but I usually bounce a lot between games. I would get really good at a game, but get bored of it to try out a new game. I never focused on one game. Now, there is a game that I can focus on, and I’ll chase it. As a kid, I somehow always attracted attention to people. The one way I would do that would be demonstrating my skills. When I was 8 years old, I had 30 people watching me play and cheering me on as I play Dance Dance Revolution. When I was 12, I won a Halo 3 Tournament, got MVP, and people were watching me as I play. Today, I have a literal following at the golf course. There’s people I haven’t even met and they know my name. (Guess that’s the perk of being the only person to be able to hit over that fence.) There’s professional teachers at the course, and one of them always pulls me off to the side. They always explain to everyone how I got banned from hitting the driver from the driving range. “A lady came by in the morning on Tuesday. Brought one of the balls. Emphasis on only one of the balls. She brought it and showed it to the manager. So, we had to figure out who could hit that far, and who was hitting on Monday night. OH YEA IT WAS HIM!.”

I can’t even explain what I’m feeling when I think of all of this.... A spark lit up inside me, and it’s continuing to spark. This was a long fucking post lmao. I had no idea what to post for tumblr. Does this even count as a blog? I don’t fucking know. I’ll probably post a lot of golf stuff because my head is literally a golf ball. If you don’t believe me, than you believe the earth is globe. A flat icon in the shape of a jackal's head, with an eye that glows bright red. Maybe it's just the stress of her dive the day before, but... It seems like the single glowing eye is following people. But that can't be true, can it?

“turn it off!” 

her words choke in her throat, the panic obvious in those deep, blue optics. she reaches out, fingers desperately searching for the power button. it only takes her a few seconds-- seconds too long, she thinks-- to find the button and turn the screen off. her shoulders tremble; her chest tightens. 

too much. it can’t be real. it can’t be TRUE. he was sequestered once by overwatch, and then killed by fareeha. he can’t be alive. he can’t have ESCAPED. surely someone has to be playing a prank. surely-- SURELY-- if anubs truly had escaped, someone would have noticed. someone would have told her.

Ade watches the children play tag together, clambering up the play equipment, kicking up sand and sprinting around trees to hide. The longing to join the children is evident in her eyes and Angela speaks first to distract her, guiding her over to the row of wild flowers growing along the garden beds. 

 She tips her head in the air, tiny nose twitching as she investigates the new scents around the flowerbed. Fresh pollen, newly-green trees and grass growing after a long and heavy winter. Camille does likewise, unable to hide away her tiny black button nose. Fareeha unbuckles the harness and lets the toddler down, softly tapping her nose as a reminder and pulls the hood securely back over her head before letting her crawl along the grass to join her sister. They continue their walk along the riverbank, side stepping the odd jogger and couple that walk past hand in hand, nodding as greeting in passing. A woman approaches with her dog on leash and Fareeha steps forward to take Ade’s hand when she notices said dog sniff at the air before setting its sights on them. Angela remembers when dogs would pull towards Fareeha, hackles bristled. Sure enough, the dog growls and lurches, emitting a surprised shriek from its owner. In a flash, Adelah yanks her hand free and crouches on all fours, growling in retaliation, her muzzle poking out from the hood and manages a few barks before Fareeha scoops her in her arms, ignoring the squirming and desperate attempts to escape.

Fareeha laughs a little awkwardly, bowing her head to the woman. “Aha, Sorry! She just loves to play animal!”

“I’m so, so sorry, I don’t know what came over him!” The woman blurts in German, reining the now-whimpering dog in closer to her. Angela exchanges a few nonchalant words in response before the part ways and continue their walk, Ade still scowling in Fareeha’s arms.

1. Mae Borowski (Night in the Woods)

When people ask me what my favorite video game of all time is, it’s a tie between Pokemon Platinum and Night in the Woods. I love the art style, the plot, the morals, the music, and I can absolutely relate to being a college dropout that struggles with mental health issues. Also Gregg rulez ok (him and Mae’s friendship is so good, they do a great job at capturing what it’s like to hang out with your best friend and be dumbasses together)

2. Jodariel (Pyre)

I still haven’t finished this game because I do what I always do which is: take a break and then forget to pick it back up for like a year. But I literally looked up if you could romance characters because I’m in love with Jodariel. She’s strong, determined to survive, and would do anything to protect her friends (and God help you if you’re her enemy).

I really need to go back and finish the game, though I think she was the second Nightwing I liberated, so she won’t be there when I return :’(

3. Red (Transistor)

Stealing this from Six because holy shit this game is beautiful and I love Red. Her relationship with Unknown makes me so sad ;_; The visuals in this game are gorgeous and the music is stunning, it makes me emotional just seeing/hearing either (and so did looking up art to put in). A mute singer mourning her lost bodyguard/lover that died to protect her so she keeps going to finish what was started?? And wears his jacket the whole time?? What’s not to love!! I cried my eyes out at the ending. 10/10 would be heartbroken again.

4. Sylvanas Windrunner (World of Warcraft)

I’ve loved Sylvanas ever since I read the Lich King novel. Her backstory is amazingly tragic and I think it’s fascinating when a character is twisted from good to very morally grey due to them losing their idealism (and she’s a badass for even surviving what Arthas put her through). She makes ethically terrible decisions and I love her for it.

I don’t love the direction that Blizzard is taking her in with Shadowlands, as I think they’re finally pushing her from morally grey to straight up evil (which I’m not into and I’m also still salty over how easily she defeated Bolvar but I’ll spare you my rant) but she’ll always be a great character.

5. The Silent (Slay the Spire)

This might be a strange choice simply because the Silent lives up to her name and has absolutely no dialogue, but I love her character design. Mysterious assassin that wears a skull as a mask and a big cloak is a design that I will never get tired of. Also, she kicks ass (even if I’m not very good at her).

6. D.Va/Hana Song (Overwatch)

Gamer girl of my heart. It’s refreshing to see a character who is both feminine and badass. I think part of why I love her is because I had a whole “I’m not like other girls, I play video games and hate pink” phase and D.Va just turns that on its head. A professional gamer turned war hero is pretty damn cool. I wish I was better at playing her.

6. Fiona (Tales From the Borderlands)

Fiona is a clever con-artist turned Vault seeker, and I love her personality and sense of humor. She definitely influenced Jackal’s design (fun fact, I played Fallout: New Vegas right after I finished TFTBL, and named my character Fiona.)

7. Citra/Scythe Anastasia (Scythe)

I love this book series. It’s a young adult novel that actually manages to introduce a plot that isn’t tired/overused and can actually make me care about yet another straight romance. It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but Citra is incredibly clever and manages to find loopholes in a strict rule system so that everyone wants to oust her but no one can get any dirt on her. 8. Annabeth Chase (Percy Jackson)

I’m always a sucker for badass know-it-alls because that is probably the role I would take on if I was ever in a young adult novel. The Percy Jackson series was my absolute favorite as a kid/teen, and Annabeth will always be my fave character from it.

9. Nuru (Starbound/Wargroove)

I have more hours on Starbound than any other game in my Steam library, and the Floran are by far my favorite race from the series. I think a race of plant people that trick people into assuming they’re vegetarians before proceeding to eat them because they’re actually carnivores is incredible. Nuru is the Floran ambassador in Starbound, and she makes an appearance in Wargroove as well. She’s super fun and I would like my Starbound character to kiss her, thank you very much.

10. Jinx (League of Legends)

Yes, the truth is out. I used to play League of Legends. Like, a lot. And Jinx has been and always will be my favorite. What’s not to love about a girl who’s just a little (okay maybe more than a little) unhinged? She’s another Jackal influence. This was a tie between Jinx and Leona tbh (I call Leona my sun gf, I love her). League is one of those games where the female character designs are like “as a feminist, I am appalled. however, as a lesbian,”

Scents of Overwatch: Support

For one of the more ambitious projects as tackled by Scent of a Warden, I have decided to make a start on Scents of Overwatch. These will be coming out in four blocks, for each of the four ‘classes’ available to play in game. First up, Support.

Mercy

Angela Zeigler - pacifist and optimist, strong in her convictions, dedicated to keeping people whole. She is fresh linen and white musk with notes of lemon, bergamot and spring rain.

Lucio

Guerilla musician standing for freedom, always on the move, controlling the battlefield with a subwoofer and a smile. He is starfruit, cut grass and ginger lily with a hint of black pepper.

Zenyatta

Omnic construction embracing spiritual tranquility without sacrificing the occasional necessity of violence. He is mountain air, steel and green tea underscored with cajeput.

Ana

Ana Amari is the desert shadow, the jackal on the sidelines, ensuring the safety of her people by any means necessary. She is stephanotis, gunpowder and frankincense with hints of rosewood.

Moira

Advanced black market science with a hint of something fey and eldritch; pushing the boundaries of morality to get the job done. She is labdanum, dragon’s blood resin and oakmoss with notes of valerian and just a hint of rose.

Brigitte

Protective and chivalrous, following in the footsteps of a brilliant engineer and a brilliant warrior to be the shield of those around her. She is fresh hay, orange, lemon, raspberry with hints of cider and sweet rum, overlaid with steel.

These are currently available at Scent of a Warden, though more will come over the next few days and there are plans for specific packs, for those looking for a bargain.
