Can’t wait for, like, 2025 when we look back on the 2018/2019 era and say “hey, remember when we were all really freaking depressed? That was a crazy time! Glad we aren’t like that anymore”

ideal living situation is what i call the 'sitcom special' : having all your closest friends live in the same apartment building or neighborhood where you each have your own space but can wander in and out of eachothers homes at will, seemingly always welcome and never at bad times. and also all of you only have jobs when its important to the plot.

Mom came into my room, told me I don't show enough affection towards my family (I don't give hugs often). Said Im emotionally dry and I will probably dump her in a nursing home when she gets older.

Part 16: Tumbling Down
● Everything that could've gone wrong did go wrong. Everything that she built, the army she gathered, the resources she possessed, her rightful prize, all torn away from her again.
● The chaos, the gutteral screaming tearing through the battlefield. It was him, her beloved prince, Bruno. He was holding his head, mask broken, eyes blazing red, body twitching and withering. Embla's influence has left him and now his body is paying the price.
● She could feel it, her Goddess' favor has left her as well. That cannot be, she held her end of the bargain! She did everything right! Why would her Goddess abandon her?!
She abandoned her like everyone else did.
● Her mind racing, how?! Why?! Did the Order did this?! But how? How would they stand up against the Goddess of Closure? No mortal can defeat, unless...the God of Openness did. Of course! The Order timed their attack at the same time of Askr answering Embla's demand. The God must've defeated the Goddess causing her remaining influence to go haywire.
● The sound of battle outside is growing, Her army is losing, her Curse Directive has failed her, her Goddess is dead, her prince will abandon her. In the dawn of the day that was supposed to bring her total victory, brought utter defeat instead.
Princess Leitizia's story ends here.
.
.
.
No...no...!
nononoNONONONO!!!!
SHE SACRIFICED EVERYTHING! SHE FOUGHT AND LIED AND CHEATED AND KILLED!
SHE GAVE HER BLOOD AND SWEAT AND TEARS!
SHE EARNED HER GODDESS FAVOR!
THE SUN WAS SUPPOSED TO SHINE ON HER REIGN TODAY!
SHE DID EVERYTHING RIGHT!
AND
IT. STILL. WASN'T. ENOUGH!!!!
Someone was screaming, something clawing at her skin. Everything burned.
Veronica took her throne, Askr took her Goddess, the Order took her prince.
Her Directive failed her, but she can still use them. None of them will leave this castle.
After all, Dark magic demands sacrifices.
Princess Leitizia's story does not end here
.
.
.
Meanwhile, outside the Royal castle.
● The Order of Heroes and the rebels are driving the Emblan army back. the only real advantage the Emblan army had was their sheer numbers. The Order, while heavily outnumbered, easily outmatch the Emblan army. And bolstered by the rebels the Emblan army is sure to fall soon.
● In the midst of of the hectic combat, a certain someone and his two children make their way towards the castle. After recovering a little in the main camp, the trio learned that the Summoner and two of the Healing Hands are part of the squad assigned to confront and neutralize Princess Leitizia. So they (Askr) decided to go and follow them in, in case they needed help.
● As the three made their way inside they sensed something...wrong. Something...unholy.
Askr sensed the fading of essence of Embla, but it was contaminated by something else, something forbidden. Dark magic is at play here. Eikþyrnir and Hræsvelgr seem to sense it was well, they've grown increasingly wary with each step towards the throne room.
● Askr moved faster, he had to get to the throne room, get everyone out of there at once! The dark magic at play here is something a mortal should mess with. They arrived at the throne to witness a horrific scene. Soldiers, Emblans from the looks of it were screaming in terror as their bodies were pulled apart, reshaped and remolded. The bodies came together with the person near the throne, the caster from the looks of it. All of them combined into a singular, grotesque beast with too many limbs. A hundred eyes and a thousand voices.
● The three were utterly stunned, frozen in place in horror and disbelief. Even their worst nightmares didn't produce something like this. Askr's eyes tore away from the monstrosity, he called for Eikþyrnir and Hræsvelgr and snap out of it and lend aid the the wounded rebels and get them out of here.
● As Hræsvelgr and Eikþyrnir moved quickly to assist the wound (and try not to look at the monster) Askr scanned the vast throne room and his eyes landed on the figures closer to the beast. As he moved towards them he immediately recognized his two daughters Ash and Ratatoskr and called for them. The others with them turned to see him and he recognizes Prince Alfonse and Princess Sharena, the smaller girl in Emblan clothing must be Princess Veronica and the last one is...
Oh.
They're taller now, almost the same height as prince Alfonse. Their hair color is the same Lærder and Ash but is shorter than theirs. They look at Askr in bewilderment.
Askr would know these eyes anywhere.
It's like Lærder said, their eyes still shine like shimmering topaz.
Oh how it takes his whole being to not run up and take them into his arms.
His little sunshine, is right before him.
A blood curdling roar interrupted the God's thoughts. The monster of a hundred eyes has turned its attention towards the group.
Alfosne issues the command, everyone prepares for combat. Askr steps forward and rallies the group to him. They will defeat this monster together and end this war once and for all.
No one will ever take his sunshine away from him again.
I keep thinking about my Divine!Kiran au that I talked to @rosymaraschino about and I can't sleep.
● Askr and Lærder are married, Kiran, the would be summoner, is the first child they had. They were a happy little family for a while, then Baldr appeared.
● Alfador claims that Kiran would to become the biggest threat the nine realms has ever seen and so Baldr was dispatched to 'deal' with them.
● Askr and Lærder ain't having none of that but can't do anything against Baldr and an order from Alfador, Baldr is actually conflicted about following through with her orders. On one hand, Alfador's visions always come true, on the other hand, Kiran is just a baby.
● Askr gets the idea of sending Kiran away, Lærder is against this at first but relents once he hears him out.
● There is a world that is incredibly difficult to open a gate to, and even more difficult to find. It is called the World of Steel.
● The World of Steel is so isolated from all other worlds that it doesn't even have magic. And extension, Alfador or anyone from the nine realms can't reach it.
● Askr argued that if Kiran were to be sent to the World of Steel, the child would effectively be banshied from the nine realms and therefore cannot be a threat to them.
● Baldr considers this, but asks if they're alright with sending their child away, never to see them again. Lærder yells at her of course they're not alright but what choice do they have? Going against Alfador is suicide.
● Askr and Baldr set out to secure the gate to the World of Steel, once thats done Lærder then follows with Kiran in hand.
● The two divine gods say a tearful farewell to their first child, before sending him through the portal and praying that they lead a good life.
● Baldr reports back to Alfador that now that Kiran is banished, there is no need to worry about the threat they will pose in the future.
● Alfador seems to agree at first, however, when Baldr leaves it's clear that he wants the child dead anyways. With the World of Steel out of his reach there is little he can do about.
Askr and Lærder later had more children (Ash+the Healing Hand) but never told them about Kiran, their abrupt loss is a wound that never healed.

Do Askr and Læraðr have a backstory on how they met in your story? I also really like your Divine Kiran AU series! What other sorts of relationships do you see for the characters? Not just romantic but like friends or even characters who would hate each other?
I do have some thoughts on character relationships in this. I've already discussed this with @steponmezackywacky .
As for how Askr and Lærder got together...
It all started at the World-Tree.
Askr, Lærder, Muspell, Nifl, Freyr, Frejya and Embla were born and raised in the World-Tree. As younglings, they somewhat grew up together, until they were of age and were assigned to their respective realms and duties.
Askr, being friendly by nature, tried his best to befriend to his fellow younglings with varrying degrees of success. He eventually became close to Lærder, who despite his aloof nature enjoyed Askr's presence. Once they were assigned to the duties however, they had drifted apart.
After a couple of decades and finally settling into their positions Askr seeked out his fellow gods to check on them. After traveling all the domains and chatting with them for a while (he stayed in Embla's Domain a little longer) he finally stopped by the World-Tree and met Lærder.
Lærder himself was assigned to be caretaker of the World-Tree and its many branches connecting the realms. He observed the realms from afar and did his job to maintain the branches but he found himself very bored. Then Askr stopped by Lærder and two had a bit of catching up with each other.
Eventually Askr had to return to his domain and Lærder to his duties, but they both planned another meeting.
It became something both were looking forward to, whenever they had time from their duties they meet up and spend time together.
Eventually, an after some encouraging words from Nifl surprisingly, Askr finally decides to confess his feelings to Lærder and officially started courting him.
There were no laws against gods engaging with one another, As long one god does not intervene in the affairs of another's domain.
Askr and Lærder has spent some years together before the topic of children was brought up. They both agreed they wanted children.
Eventually, they had Kiran, their first born, their little sunshine. The new parents struggled at first, as all new parents did. But in little time the three of them formed a happy family.
And...well, we know how the story goes from there.
I will try to put character relationships in another post.
