I mean this respectfully but trying to predict 9-1-1's cancellation is a losing battle. Sorry, but this bitch (9-1-1) is a cockroach. She's not going anywhere for at least another two seasons. 9-1-1 is consistently one of the biggest shows on streaming, pulling in 8/9/10M views across scaffolded data. When they were picked up by a new network, ABC gave Tim the keys to the kingdom and told him to go wild, which he has done. And while fandom may hate what he's doing on TV, people are still locking in to watch every week (even across streaming) which means he's still generating the returns the network is looking for. Further, Network TV is a dying breed—everyone's ratings are declining. Network TV used to routinely bring in 7-10M+ viewers on average, and now any show is lucky to receive 6M viewers consistently. The rise of streaming brought with it the rise of convenience, so no one really cares to tune weekly on a set schedule when they can just push a button on their remote and watch the show whenever they want. Years ago, Tim said he wanted 9-1-1 to be a show that reached the double digits and, whether some people like it or not, he's still on a trajectory that would make that goal a reality. They're coming out with another spinoff, guys. Networks don't invest money in spinoffs and franchising + advertisement if they're planning on axing the whole thing. :P

sometimes i entertain the idea of percy becoming the raven queen's champion just because it hurts me a horrible amount but also because like. imagine you're the raven queen and this man, this man whose family you'd safeguarded and whose hands had killed the ones who defied death, is screaming at the top of his lungs to take him instead, not her, not her, he can't bear to watch another person he loves die at his hand and she has so much ahead of her, so goddamn much and he knows his destiny is simply to die, and he offers his life up on a platter to trade for someone he doesn't even know he loves yet.

but also Also i think of this idea and it being the exact reason the raven queen did Not take percy as her champion. that wasn't his fate, no matter how sympathetic or fond she might be towards him. he deserves a life out of the confines. he deserves a chance to be happy before she leads him home. and so she takes a look at the woman's brother who simultaneously shrieks for her to take him instead, offers up his service, at that chance to make his sister happy and she sees the glimmer of string that is fate and slowly, underneath her mask, begins to smile.

i think the world would be a much more agreeable place if people, especially those in leftist circles, could acknowledge that, no, we are not always effective allies to minority demographics. i'm not even talking about promising to do better (though that is important) but so many people have turned allyship into a point of pride or a way of proving their worth and value as a human being to the point where they either refuse to entertain the idea that they were ineffective allies OR they use their ineffectiveness as an opportunity to self-flagellate. none of that is necessary. just saying, "hm, yeah, i was bad at that and i wasn't as supportive and effective as i could have been" is significant as it is

i've been thinking about this lately but the thing about canon buddie is that... there's so much buck and eddie have not talked about. and it's gone from being a we (the viewers) need to see them address this kind of thing to being a how the fuck are these characters meant to address all of this? kind of thing. for context, here's a noncomprehensive list of things buck and eddie have simply Not Talked About:

buck's feelings about watching eddie get shot (grieving spouse)

eddie's feelings about watching buck die (grieving spouse)

the will

the way their intimacy exists on both platonic and romantic levels

the fact that they were kidnapped together

buck and christopher's entire relationship and how/why buck became his second in command

some other stuff too, but you get my drift. these are such significant things that neither the narrative nor the characters themselves have addressed. and at some point, it goes from being aw fuck this is gonna be so juicy when they talk about this to being hooooly fuck, there are so many layers of emotions wrapped up in these events that have completely changed the way they interact with each other and it's overwhelming to consider how they could possibly dive into all of these events that have shaped who/how they are to each other while still giving each event the gravitas and weight they deserve. like, from where i'm standing, the only thing that could completely bypass the need to unpack all of this is a Big Moment that encompasses [waves hand] all of that (trapped dads anyone?). but without that, it's like. fuck. there's so much. there's Too Much.
