Don't get me wrong, I love those toxic yaoi men but if I was a Special Agent in the fucking FBI and being brutally betrayed by a sweaty transman (trans will realness) who reeked of wet dog that was working on a case with you, because HE was off pining for the cannibalistic killer? I WOULD BE PISSED!!

I was talking with my spouse about tastes in porn the other night (as you do), and I mentioned that I’m currently writing a threesome fic. “Oh, which three?” he asked. “The original three,” I said. “Michael, Fiona and Sam. Almost all the Burn Notice poly fics are those three.” And my spouse, who has never sat down to watch an episode of Burn Notice, but has been absorbing more than he probably ever wanted to know through months of chronic exposure, said, “Huh. Well, I’m glad they let Sam in, I thought it would have been Jesse.” And then we got into a half hour long discussion about ageism in fandom and racism in fandom, and who the fangirls consider conventionally attractive enough to be fuckable, and all the ways the writing can influence that. (It gets harder to dismiss Sam as too old to have a sex life when he’s canonically shagging his way through half the Miami country club set. And there’s the history with those three, going back years before the show even started, which creates a dynamic that can’t be replicated with Jesse.) But it got me reflecting again, and I’ve always been puzzled by the ageism thing, even back before I got to be middle aged myself. Around the year 2000 when The West Wing was the latest big fandom, I found a fantastic slash fic with Leo McGarry and Lord John Marbury. It was so funny and snarky, and totally in character and yes, it was hot. So I was reccing this fic and getting the reaction, ‘Ewww! Old people sex! I don’t want to read that, I don’t need those images in my head!’ And I was all 0_0 But the fic! It’s so well written! Why will nobody love it? (A couple of people did read it and come around, so kudos to the writer for achieving that XD) It varies so much with the fandom too. Any fandom that skews older tends to have less ageism (no surprise there). There was never a shortage of sex for middle aged, bald Picard in TNG fics, a show that came with a lot of women who’d been fans of the 60s Trek. In the Hannibal fandom, up until a couple of years ago I would have said that there was no ageism there at all, given the preponderance of opinion that circa 50-year-old Mads Mikkelsen is a definitive DILF. But apparently the Hannibal fans over on twitter found some idiots who were willing to overlook the gaslighting, manipulation and stabbing in that relationship, but thought a ten year age gap was beyond the pale. Honestly? The whole show is about this utterly obsessive, screwed up relationship between these two men – if you find the basic concept of it repellant, why are you even here?? And then there’s the racism issue, which I’ll admit I spent many years in fandom living in complete ignorance of. Part of that is because a lot of the early fandoms I wrote for were So Very White (Due South had one Black minor character) or anime fandoms, where characters might have been nominally Japanese, but looked about as Japanese as I do. The place I really ran into the racism hard was in Hannibal. The number of people who would happily ship Hannibal and Will, despite the above-mentioned gaslighting, manipulation and stabbing, but who thought Jack Crawford was practically Satan because he talked Will into doing an unpleasant job and got angry and yelled sometimes – that was quite an eye-opener. The justifications they would come up with for it were fun too – ‘It’s workplace abuse! Jack’s in a position of power!’ Hmmm, but Hannibal's in a position of power and committing medical malpractice, and having a frustrated boss shouting at you is hardly worse than the drugging and the stabbing, really, is it? And honestly, I don’t have anywhere I’m really going with all of this, other than just to vomit out what I’ve been pondering over, and to say that we fans can be strange, and shallow. And blind, sometimes. So very blind.

LUCY & THE JOANS!
Lucille Ball’s Collabs with Women Named Joan
A remarkable number of talented women named Joan - and even a few memorable characters - were part of the Lucyverse.
JOAN BANKS (1918-1989)
Joan Banks’ only credit with Lucille Ball was in “Fan Magazine Interview” (1954) in which she played reporter Eleanor Harris, assigned to do a story on Ricky Ricardo’s wife aka Lucy Ricardo. Here character name was a tribute to real-life writer Eleanor Harris.
JOAN BLONDELL (1906-1979)
Joan Blondell (sister of Gloria Blondell) was active as a performer concurrently with Lucille Ball. On “The Lucy Show,” she played Joan Brenner, a character intended to fill the gap after the departure of Vivian Vance. But she did not get along with Lucille Ball, and after a shouting match in front of the studio audience, Blondell was dismissed after just two episodes.
JOAN CAREY (1921-2015)
Joan Carey was born Joan Somerville Norbury on February 18, 1921 in Yorkshire, England. As a background performer and stand-in, she appeared on many episodes of “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy Show,” generally uncredited.
JOAN CAULFIELD (1922-1991)
Joan Caulfield played the role of Liz Cooper on the television adaptation of “My Favorite Husband” (1953-55). Lucille Ball played the role on radio, but chose instead to play Lucy Ricardo. Caulfield and Ball were later both guest stars on “Bob Hope’s Leading Ladies” in 1966.
JOAN CRAWFORD (1905-1977)
Joan Crawford was born Lucille Fay LeSueur. The Oscar-winning actress was mentioned on several episodes of “I Love Lucy” and “The Lucy Show” before making a guest appearance in “Lucy and the Lost Star” in 1968. The episode was originally intended for Gloria Swanson, hence the non-specific title. The title “Lucy and Joan” had already been used when Joan Bennet guest-starred. As with Bennett there was off-stage friction between Crawford and Ball.
JOAN COLLINS (1933)
English-born actress Joan Collins hosted the “All Star Party for Lucille Ball” in 1984. She was also seen with Ball on “Bob Hope’s Leading Ladies” (1966), “Women I Love: Beautiful But Funny” (1982), “Night of 100 Stars II” (1985), and “Friar’s Club Tribute to Gene Kelly” (1985).
JOAN CROSBY (1924-1992)
Joan Crosby was a journalist who wrote about Lucille Ball and was the one-time president of the Hollywood Women’s Press Club. As such, she played herself (above far right) in “Lucy Meets the Burtons” (1970).
JOAN FONTAINE (1917-2013)
Born Joan de Beauvoir de Havilland in Tokyo, she was the sister of Olivia de Havilland. She appeared with Lucy (and two other Joans) in “Bob Hope’s Leading Ladies” (1966). In 1959 she appeared on an episode of “Westinghouse-Desilu Playhouse” hosted by Desi Arnaz.
JOAN GRANT
Joan Grant is the character played by Lucille Ball in The Marines Fly High (1940). She runs a cocoa plantation in the South American jungle and allows a platoon of US Marines to stay there. Two of the Marines tussle over her affections. When she is kidnapped, the two Marines unite to save her.
JOAN RIVERS (1933-2014)
Joan Alexandra Molinsky was born in New York City and became one of the top female comedians of all time. She co-starred with Lucille Ball on “Here’s Lucy” in “Lucy and Joan Rivers Do Jury Duty” (1973) where Rivers played Joan Reynolds. She was the first female guest-host of "The Tonight Show” interviewing Lucille Ball three times.
JOAN SWIFT (1933-2016)
Joan Swift was a frequent background player who had a few lines on “The Lucy Show” and “Here’s Lucy.” Three of her characters were also named Joan. Her final screen appearance was in “Lucy Gets Lucky” (1975).
During her long career in Hollywood, Lucille Ball also worked with or employed Joan Benny (Jack’s daughter), Joan Marshall (”Star Trek”), Joan O’Brien (”Shower of Stars”), Joan Fairfax (”Tonight Show with Jack Paar”), Joan Staley (”The Untouchables”), and Joan Woodbury (”There Goes My Girl”).
BONUS JOANS
JOAN OF ARC (1412-1431)
In “Lucy the Skydiver” (1970), Lucy Carter hears the voices of strong women like Florence Nightingale and Joan of Arc, the Americanized name of the French saint and warrior Jeanne d'Arc.
"I MARRIED JOAN” starring JOAN DAVIS
From 1952 to 1955 Joan Davis (1912-1961) starred in the sitcom “I Married Joan,” which was NBC’s answer to the popularity of “I Love Lucy.” Comic actress Davis had appeared with Lucille Ball in the 1933 film Bunker Bean. Like Lucy, Davis used her own first name and was a scatterbrained housewife. Her husband (Jim Backus) was a judge. Both shows featured Mary Jane Croft, Bobby Jellison, Shirley Mitchell, Sandra Gould, Margie Liszt, Jerry Hausner, Elvia Allman, Myra Marsh, Phil Arnold, Dick Elliott, Robert Foulk, Joseph Kearns, Maxine Semon, Don Brodie, Hal March, Richard Reeves, Herb Vigran, Norman Varden, Harry Bartell, Kay Wiley, Charlotte Lawrence, Frank Nelson, Frank Gerstle, Vivvi Janis, George Neise, Ross Elliott, Verna Felton, Fritz Feld, Mabel Paige, Rolfe Sedan, Paul Dubov, Maurice Marsac, Peter Leeds, Shepard Menken, Strother Martin, Junie Ellis, Florence Bates, Sam Hearn, Mary Treen, and Hans Moebus. Like Lucille Ball, Joan Davis also served as Executive Producer of her series, which, like “I Love Lucy,” was filmed at General Service Studios.

Written by Joe Gannon Directed by Armand Mastroianni
We open on a sexy woman singing a song. It is the superstar Angelica, and it turns out we are seeing her on a television set, in a room covered with posters and photos of her. A man is applying makeup to his face in the mirror, then he walks through the room, caressing her image on the walls. He seems obsessed and sad, mouthing "I love you" to a poster, then he begins to sob.
Cut to the outside shot of the Vinyl Museum Record Depot, where the man, Howard, works. He is busy filling a display for Angelica's music, and his boss tells him a PR rep for Angelica's label will be stopping in. She also gets Howard's hopes up by hinting maybe the rep can even get Angelica to stop by herself.
Some teen girls are shopping, and an overzealous Howard tries to help, wanting to show of his knowledge of Angelica. They mock him and leave.
That night, Howard is walking home and looks at his reflection in a window. As he does, two men jump out of a car and smash a store window, grabbing items and fleeing as the alarm sounds. Howard walks over and finds a chain with a crystal bauble. He picks it up just as a bystander grabs him, thinking he is the burglar. Howard tells the man to drop dead, and the bauble kind of puts the man in a trance. He walks off, we can hear his heart pounding and he collapses. Howard goes to check on him, but the man is dead. The cops arrive.
Later, Howard is finally at home and examines the bauble in front of the mirror. He asks it to fix his skin, and his face instantly looks smoother. He then asks it to fix his face, but nothing happens.
At Curious Goods, Ryan is excited to have to tickets to Angelica's concert. Ryan really likes her, but Micki pokes fun at him. Jack then finds the bauble in the Manifest, and shows the cousins the police report of items stolen, and it includes Mesmer's Bauble. Jack tells them Mesmer was a hypnotist, and they wonder what Louis' curse did to the item. Micki and Ryan leave to investigate.
At a club called The Copa, fans eagerly await as Angelica arrives. Howard among them. She waves and signs a few autographs then is ushered inside.
Howard arrives at the record store and his boss introduces him to Anita Devon, from Angelica's label. Howard is excited to meet someone who actually knows his crush. His boss comments on his face looking clearer.
Howard shows Anita their storeroom and she gives him an autographed photo of Angelica. He also spies her backstage pass. Howard continues to ask questions, and it quickly gets too personal. Anita thinks he is a wacko fan, and is uncomfortable. She wants to go, but Howard pushes, and she says Angelica wouldn't be attracted to someone like him. He pulls out the bauble and puts her in a trance. He tells her to go for a walk. She obeys, walking out of the store, only saying goodbye to Mrs. Burns at Howard's insistence. Howard walks out with Anita and tells her to walk into the traffic. She is hit by a semi. His boss runs out and tells him to call an ambulance.
That night, Howard rushes home and again holds the bauble, asking it to make him beautiful and someone Angelica would notice. He writhes on the floor in pain.
At The Copa, Howard arrives with Anita's backstage pass. He looks more attractive, and even his hair is flowing. He heads backstage, where Angelica and her crew are rehearsing. Howard follows the monitors and soon he is within feet of the singer, watching her. Roger, Angelica's manager, is ushering her out when they encounter Howard, who says he is there replacing Anita. Roger says he better do better than her, to Angelica's chagrin. Howard and Angelica shake hands. Roger takes her away, saying they can talk business later. A stagehand says there is an issue with too many fans and asks if Angelica will come out and sign some autographs. Roger tries to blow him off, but Angelica goes to them. Howard wanders backstage.
Later, Roger is ranting about lost time as he and Angelica finally get to her dressing room. He says she is too good to her fans. As she goes to change, Howard watches from the clothing rack. Angelica says Roger is too possessive, and Howard realizes they are a couple.
Micki and Ryan arrive at the store that was burglarized. They talk to the owner, and tell him the cops caught the thieves and got most of his items back. They ask about the bauble. He thinks the crooks fenced it, but Micki says there wasn't time. He mentions the kid who talked to the police, and Micki asks if he means Howard Moore. The man calls him and ugly kid, and talks about the jogger that died. Micki and Ryan head off.
At another rehearsal, Howard watches Angelica perform. He then approaches as Angelica and Roger go to leave, but Roger rudely tells him he should be working and not hanging around, and then takes off as Howard seethes.
Micki and Ryan are at the record store and talk to Mrs. Burns. She said Howard called and quit this morning, and tells them kids were always giving Howard a bad time over his looks. Then she tells them about Anita getting hit. Micki says to Ryan that everywhere Howard is, someone dies.
Howard lies in bed, listening to Angelica's music, and says out loud that he knows she wants him. A knock on the door and Micki and Ryan are there. They ask about the robbery and if he noticed the bauble. He says no, but Micki spies all the Angelica photographs before he shuts the door. She comments to Ryan that he is not at all ugly. They wonder if the cursed antique is already at work. Micki thinks he wants Angelica, so they leave to find where she is staying.
In his apartment, Howard holds the bauble.
At the hotel, Roger stops shaving to answer the door. It is Howard, who holds the bauble up and entrances the man. Howard tells him to finish shaving, really close, with no water. He keeps telling him to go closer and closer, and not to forget his throat. Blood hits the sink and Roger collapses. Howard looks in the mirror and tells the bauble he wants to be Angelica's lover.
In the hotel lobby, Micki and Ryan see a body wheeled out. A woman says it was Angelica's manager. Then, Angelica and Howard get off the elevator, together. Howard has instantly replaced Roger, telling the assembled group to give her privacy.
Jack is reading about Roger's death, with a quote from Howard saying Roger was depressed. Micki says Howard spent the night planning Roger's funeral. They are sure he has the bauble. Jack tells them about his research, that the bauble fulfills fantasies. Ryan wonders if Howard will hurt Angelica. They head to the club.
Angelica is crying in her dressing room when Howard arrives with a rose. He tells her he took care of Roger's funeral, and she cries on his chest. She wants to cancel her show, but Howard insists she must go on, for all her fans. She is unsure. A man knocks on the door, and Angelica says she will go on. Howard tells her he wants to show her something.
We cut to him taking Angelica to his apartment with all the photos of her on the walls. She asks if he wants her and begins to undress.
Micki and Ryan burst into the club, wanting to find Angelica. A man stops them, and Ryan asks where she is. The man says she left with her new manager.
Howard and Angelica are naked, and he is caressing her body. He keeps looking from her to her photos, then he is touching his own chest, then the bauble. Angelica asks what's wrong, and kisses him. She pulls him to the floor on top of her, but Howard says he can't do this, it isn't what he wants. He says he wants to be her. She struggles, as he holds her down. The power of the bauble works on his wish, melding their bodies. Later, Howard who is now Angelica looks in the mirror and laughs.
That night, the stagehand tells Howard/Angelica it is almost showtime. She admires herself in the mirror.
Ryan and Micki arrive at Howard's apartment and bang on the door. Ryan forces the door open. Micki sees weird slimy ooze on the floor, and they rush off to the club.
As the show is about to begin, the fans fill the club. Howard/Angelica prepares to go on stage. Micki and Ryan head in with the other fans, looking for Howard. Angelica/Howard is introduced and comes on stage, singing and dancing.
Micki notices the bauble around "Angelica's" neck and as the singer makes her way around the stage, Micki reaches up and grabs the bauble, pulling it off without their knowing. Suddenly, Howard/Angelica's voice goes deep, his body and face change. He is transforming into Howard again in front of a freaked out crowd. He hears the mocking voices in his head, backs up in a panic and falls into a floor panel of lights, sending sparks into the air. Micki, Ryan and the club all watch in horror.
At home, Ryan is listening to Angelica on the radio, and Jack and Micki tell him to try and make sense out of it. Micki says the bauble is in the vault, but they blew it this time, lamenting being unable to also save Angelica. Jack says there was no way to know what was going to happen, or what was going on in Howard's mind. Ryan looks at the ticket stubs and thinks of Angelica.
My thoughts:
Wow. What an episode. I remember the first time I saw this one, I was really confused as to what happened. Makes way more sense now, but quite the twist here.
One thing that is nuts is how much is made of how 'ugly' Howard is. Are all the people around him so superficial and mean to that extent? Sadly, I can see it being true. Might be a bit played up for the drama, but people can be real jerks. Still happens to this day. So maybe I shouldn't be surprised.
The antique is quite a powerful one, basically acting like a genie's lamp in granting wishes, as long as you give it deaths, and don't let it go. Howard obviously wanted very specific things, but he could have had literally anything from it, it seems.
Our group is getting real good at investigating things, but you have to wonder if the cops have questions about these people always wanting information on things. A recurring cop or someone on the inside would have helped with this.
Glad to have the three of them back together after three episodes with them apart.
The final transformation on stage in front of the crowd and the at home viewers had to have been big news. No way to keep that a secret. I assume Micki and Ryan just took off, but all those people watched Angelica transform into Howard, who then fell and died. And Angelica was gone, too. Had to be huge news! But they make no mention of how it was explained to the world, at the end.
Do appreciate their melancholy, though. They did their best, but Angelica still died. Not easy to live with, I'm sure.

The Hollywood Canteen (1944)
Basic Story: Two soldiers on leave spend three nights at the Hollywood Canteen being entertained by the biggest stars of the time.
Fan Thoughts: The Hollywood Canteen was a real club open to servicemen and women during World War II that was run entirely by volunteers from the entertainment industry. The film has a fictional love story between ‘Slim’ Green (Robert Hutton) and Joan Leslie running in the background, but the majority of the film is filled with cameo performances by the biggest stars of the time, most of whom really did volunteer there. The whole story is very lighthearted, if thin, and a fun way to showcase all the stars. The main reason I enjoyed this was because it is a real snapshot from that time; the opening shot has the original Hollywoodland sign in the background for instance. The stars performing cameos in the film include: The Andrews Sisters, Jack Benny, Joe E. Brown, Eddie Cantor, Kitty Carlisle, Jack Carson, Joan Crawford, Faye Emerson, Sydney Greenstreet, Alan Hale Sr., Paul Henreid, Joan Leslie, Peter Lorre, Ida Lupino, Dorothy Malone, Dennis Morgan, Janis Paige, Eleanor Parker, Roy Rogers (with Trigger), S.Z. Sakall, Zachary Scott, Alexis Smith, Barbara Stanwyck, Jane Wyman, Jimmy Dorsey, the Golden Gate Quartet, and Joan McCracken (names are links to Wikipedia pages). While the film is pretty thin without all the stars’ cameos, it’s a wonderful slice of Hollywood at the time!

DISCORD: whiskey#6583
I work nights so my replies on the dash and in discord are kind of all over the place time-wise
JACK DUNN
Full Name: Phillip Jackson Dunn
Nickname(s): Jack, JD, Dunner
Birthday: April 1st, 1986 (34)
Hometown: Tupelo, Mississippi
Education: Bachelor of Science in Equine Science & Management from the University of Kentucky
Occupation: Head Trainer at Dunn Performance Horses out of Whiskey Hollow
Faceclaim: Chace Crawford
Content Warning(s):
N/A
BACKGROUND:
His full name is Phillip Jackson Dunn but he has always gone by Jack Dunn. It’s been one of those things that everyone kind of just knows but has a tendency to forget about
No real reason as to why he has always gone by “Jack”, just that he never wanted to be called Phil/Phillip when he was a child
Jack is the only son of Judah and Lyla Dunn
He has four sisters (Oldest taken by Louella Dunn, others are open wanted connections!)
Growing up on the Whiskey Hollow property meant that Jack, as well as all of his sisters, were introduced to horses at a very young age
Whether or not the Dunn children wanted to be actively involved in the ranch or with horses was left entirely up to them but every opportunity was offered to find their personal niche with it
Jack started riding the minute that he could and from there he never stopped
The only other sport that Jack participated in was baseball which he played pretty much every year that he could manage it
He was offered an opportunity to play varsity but declined the offer to focus on his riding instead
Jack attended the University of Kentucky and majored in Equine Science & Management
He played baseball recreationally while in college with a club team when he could
Jack continued to ride and compete all throughout college on a horse named U Kan Cash a Chek (“Cash”)
After graduation, Jack moved to California to follow his at-the-time girlfriend whom he met at school
“Cash” was moved back to Whiskey Hollow and Jack was gifted another horse named Lena Bit of Diesel (“Lena”). Lena was moved to California with Jack and began training with him there
While in California Jack worked under a top NRCHA trainer located there and also competed at many events
After a year in California, Jack moved back to Tupelo as he couldn’t stand living in California
At age 26 Jack was declared a Million Dollar Rider with the NRHA (National Reining Horse Association)
Jack has been back in Tupelo for many years now (roughly 10 years) and has taken on the role as the head trainer at Dunn Performance Horses out of Whiskey Hollow
WHISKEY HOLLOW:
The Dunn Family owns and operates Whiskey Hollow which offers 3 main components
Judah and Lyla Dunn offer trail riding and take care of boarding the horses and so on, they also help with training of those who are looking for lessons but are not competitive
Louella Dunn is the eldest Dunn child and operates the rescue portion of Whiskey Hollow, often bringing in neglected animals to help provide them with a new lease on life and put them with forever homes
Jack Dunn runs Dunn Performance Horses which is highly competitive training for both students and horses alike. There are a few horses under Jack’s care which were born and bred to be at Whiskey Hollow and compete
The name was agreed upon as both brothers were equal investors and had equal responsibility with running the ranch
The property is vast and is home to more than just horses (such as donkeys and a whitetail deer)
The facility spans many acres and also houses trails that have small lakes and creeks running through it
A large farmhouse sits on the property near the barns which both Judah and Lyla continue to live
There is another smaller “caretaker’s house” on the property where Lou stays
The property also hosts an indoor and outdoor arena and is looking to expand/update the barns
PERSONALITY:
He can definitely be very flirty and charming (hence how he has about 900 ex girlfriends)
HOWEVER... He also is kind of a dickhead sometimes
Ego is astronomical
But it’s kind of charming and cute that he loves his animals and would do anything for them and they are his top priority
But them being his top priority means that his horses and his work will come before basically anyone else
Otherwise he tends to be fairly relaxed (or at least appears that way)
FAST FACTS:
Jack is a Million Dollar Rider (NRHA, National Reining Horse Association) which is a title given to riders who have winnings that accumulate to $1M from showing
He hopes to meet the mark of a 2 Million Dollar Rider and also a Million Dollar Rider in the NRCHA (National Reined Cow Horse Association)
He was also part of the US Team for the FEI World Equestrian Games in reining
Jack has 2 dogs and 1 cat - the dogs are Stone (Blue Heeler) & Armada (Catahoula Mix). His cat is George (orange tabby) who is also slightly overweight but they are working on it.
He drives a beefy Ford F-250 King Ranch
Yes his name is actually Phillip. No, he doesn’t want to talk about it
CONNECTIONS:
Friends! Childhood, High School, College, Show Circuit
Enemies! There’s probably a fair number of people who are not necessarily fans of Jack (Could be other competitors, etc)
Ex-girlfriends/ex-flings (Could be on good, bad, or decent terms! He has a tendency to have a lot of 3-month girlfriends)
The girl who he met in college and followed to California (x) This will be a WC
A girl from the circuit (another rider) who he competes against often and they are pretty good friends (but they definitely make fun of each other all the time, y’know). He’s probably (definitely) gotten into a fight with one of her ex-boyfriends over some BS that included her. (This’ll go up as a WC soon!)
Cousins! All of that family shit
His other 3 sisters! They are going to be open wanted connections so hit me up
All of it

Story title: “A Thousands Cuts”
Link: TBA
Pairings: best friend/brother-sister relationship Blaine Anderson
Friend: Kurt Hummel
Best friend in Wellwood: Kinsey Rose (fc was Melissa Benoist in Glee)
Romantic relationship: Sebastian Smythe
Info: Sarah is honestly based on a character I used to RP in @wellwoodrp with the URL of @saribearpuckerman (Still on as an archive if you want to read some of her interactions). This rp was an AU glee twin Rp that was a twist on the master/slave theme where characters like Sarah, Blaine, and Sebastian were residents and characters like Kurt, Kinsey and Joe were Residents. I just loved her and couldn’t part with her even though I left the rp for personal reasons, especially the relationship she had with Blaine known as Blarah with @justbreatheblaine. At the time of the RP she was 15 but sticking to the time line she’d be about 19 right now. I’ll also post info from her bio from the rp as well.
Character info: Sarah is from the small town of Wellwood. She is the younger sister of Jake and Noah Puckerman and due to the fact that she doesn’t like the idea of servants she has a very strained relationship with her mother. Sarah had to transfer to Crawford her sophomore year of high school due to bullying. At Crawford she was in the glee club, even becoming the captain her senior year. She is dating Sebastian Smythe (who was bi in the rp) and is like a little sister to Blaine Anderson. His family is basically her 2nd family and she considers Mrs. Anderson her 2nd mom and refers to her as “Mama A” as she lived with them when her mother kicked her out. Blaine was Sarah’s first crush (Before she knew he preferred princes to princesses as she put it) and he was the first boy Sarah ever kissed ( Blaine has having a panic attack and Sarah didn’t know what to do so she kissed him like she saw in movies hoping it’d calm him down). People at Crawford and Dalton assumed that her and Blaine where biological siblings and often referred to her as Blaine's sister during introductions. The teachers would even address her as Miss Anderson. After a while Sarah just quit correcting them. When she left Wellwood to go to College with the approval of Blaine and Mrs. Anderson after Blaine called her Miss Anderson when he wss getting on to her,she started using Anderson as her last name.
RP BIO for Reference
Sarah Puckerman was born Jan 1 and is 15 though she often acts mature for her age, though sometimes she acts like she is five years old. Sarah is also a very sensitive person who hates disappointing people though she can sass you at any given moment she’s actually pretty shy until she gets to know you. She is what’s known as a “girlie” tomboy. She likes to dress up in girly clothes, but given the choice she would be out playing sports with her brothers or any of the other boys in the neighborhood or riding horses despite the fact that her mother would try to enter her into beauty pageants and threatened to put her in finishing school if she didn’t stop which has caused Sarah and her mother to have a very strained relationship. Luckily for Sarah though neither one of her parents are around that much and a lot of times her Grandma Evie is taking care of them who herself was a servant that married a resident and understands Sarah’s beliefs on servants.
Sarah is very close with her brothers as their father abandoned them when they were younger, and their mother was too busy going to as many social events as possible. It was left up to Noah and Jake to look out for her, and in a way raise her, though she feels closer to Jake than she does Noah. Since Noah often took the place of a father figure to Jake and Sarah, she often sees Noah more like a father. In fact when she was little she often called him “Daddy puck”. Jake however is her Jakey bear and she is his Sari bear… names that are only known to the two of them. If Sarah slips and says it in public, Jake acts like he honestly hates that name.
Sarah is also one of the nicest Residents or so she’s told. She refuses to let servants call her miss, preferring Sari as it is a nickname and distances her from her family or Sarah. She does not give her Servants too many things to do, or anything too hard and often chooses to go against her family’s wishes and do her chores herself, occasionally asking her servants to help her with homework, or to come to her room to talk to her about things she’s not comfortable talking to her brothers or parents about. Sarah also has a habit of making her friends such as Blaine, Kurt and Kinsey honorary siblings. The Puckermans are also considered one of the poorer resident families.
☆ KEY TRAITS: Tomboy acts girlie for her mother’s benefit, shy, sassy, sweet, adorable, outspoken, independent, sensitive, and brave.
☆ FEARS: Storms, disappointing people, that people will hurt her or leave her like her father if she lets them in.
☆ FACE CLAIM: Bailee Madison
☆ FAVORITES
»COLOR: green
»SEASON: Autumn and Winter
» FLOWERS: White Roses, Peppermint and Marble Poinsettias.
» GUILTY PLEASURE: Sweets!

There is a scene in a late episode of the series “Feud: Bette and Joan,” which was about the relationship between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. In the episode, Joan Crawford has died, and Bette Davis and some other stars of their era are watching the video collage from backstage. Joan Crawford’s photo comes up, burns in the screen for a second, then moves to the nest person. Next to Bette, someone says, “Is that all she gets?” Bette, visibly moved yet steely, says, “That’s all any of us get.” Today, we burned a bunch of my dad’s stuff. Mostly old tax returns, bank statements, and bills. But also old magazines, but including copies of the one I work on. We burned copies of articles he had published, because we’d already found nine other copies of it. His class notes from graduate-level chemistry classes at the University of Arkansas. Legs pads on which he’d written down inscrutable and quotidian notes. Old copies of policy statements from @swosu. Minutes from faculty senate meetings. Memos between colleagues about equipment requests, visiting junior high chemistry clubs, policy disputes. Outlines of a proud and outstanding career as a scientist and an educator. In outline, the shapes of grudges long-held and personal pains long-nursed. I kept some of it. Much, we burned. We passed around a bottle of Jack Daniels that Dad had for some reason despite being neither a drinker nor a whiskey fan. Dad’s still alive, of course, and he is expected to leave the hospital Monday. But there was a visible lessening of his physical load the last two days as we culled his possessions. More of us than just body turns to ash and dust when we go. We carry so little with us when we leave the planet, and yet so much goes with us when we’re gone. What to keep? What to throw away? Good and impossible questions both. (at Mountain Fork, Arkansas) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8nVR8vByzk/?igshid=1ekb26qatfm00

Jonathan Groff on Mindhunter: 'I walked into makeup and saw a scalped woman's head'
What turns someone into a serial killer? In the 1970s, the FBI was utterly in the dark. But a wave of seemingly unmotivated killings – by Charles Manson, David Berkowitz, Ted Bundy and John Wayne Gacy – forced them into uncharted territory. A new form of profiling was required, one that didn’t simply believe evil to be genetic, but took into account one’s formative years.
Netflix’s ambitious new drama Mindhunter explores the early days of the serial killer. Based on a book co-written by John E Douglas, the FBI agent who was the inspiration for Clarice Starling’s mentor Jack Crawford in The Silence of the Lambs, it’s also created by David Fincher, director of Seven and Zodiac.
“It seems like our culture is obsessed with serial killers,” Jonathan Groff tells me in the library of a Manhattan hotel. He plays a fictionalised version of Douglas, a young agent crossing the US to conduct harrowing interviews with serial killers about their motivations. It’s a far cry from Groff’s prior work – he has starred in Glee, the acclaimed HBO drama Looking, the hit Broadway musical Hamilton, and voiced iceman Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen.
Mindhunter arrives during a renewed obsession with true crime – the success of Serial, Making a Murderer and The Keepers all providing fertile ground for a show that explores the origins of techniques we now take for granted. “All my friends while I was working on the show were in anticipation,” Groff says. “Friends you wouldn’t expect to be interested in the minutiae of how someone ripped apart a body and fucked their neck.”
Groff laughs but there is a strange truth here: a prestigious, high-end drama like this provides a socially acceptable way to explore evil. It’s tough stuff and Groff admits that the gruesome facts were often difficult to swallow.
“I had a hard time making it through the book,” he says. “I had to keep putting it down. Ultimately, we’re actors, I’m putting on a costume, so we’re playing pretend. But then I would walk into the makeup truck and there’s a scalped woman’s head and you go, ‘Fuck!’ You think, ‘Oh shit, this really happened, this is so intense.’ Then you just kind of shake that off and have a drink or have a laugh with Fincher.”
The phrase “have a laugh with Fincher” isn’t one you hear often. The director, whose films also include The Social Network, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and Gone Girl, is known for his meticulous nature (while shooting Fight Club, he took more than 1,500 rolls of film – three times the average in Hollywood). Zodiac star Jake Gyllenhaal once called him a “disciplinarian”.
“There’s no pretension,” Groff says of Fincher. “Yes, he’s meticulous and, yes, occasionally there’s multiple takes but it’s really because he wants it to be good. It was so fucking amazing. I have withdrawal.”
It’s a show Netflix clearly has confidence in, giving the green light to a second season before the first has even aired. It’s also set to provide Groff with yet another fervent fanbase. His role in Andrew Haigh’s critically acclaimed (but short-lived) drama Looking, about the lives of gay men in San Francisco, led to a loyal gay following who welcomed rare representation on screen, even if it received criticism for not being gay enough, being too gay, and not being diverse enough.
“The cruelty was confusing,” he says. “And it was a bummer because that happened at the very beginning. The show might have gone on longer if we’d had a more supportive start, but the aggressive negativity was disappointing.”
Groff is something of a rarity: an openly gay actor working in Hollywood, headlining a major drama as a straight character. “If I’ve had roadblocks along the way for being gay, I’m not aware of them,” he says. “I haven’t had anyone say no, we can’t because he’s gay. In fact, it’s been quite the opposite. Sex is such a huge part of Mindhunter and never for a second did I feel self-conscious sharing my own stories in the creative process. It was very fluid and free and open. Being a gay person didn’t affect anything about it, but being able to share my relationship history and my sexual history as Jonathan – that affects everything when you create a character.”
The 32-year-old’s most widely seen character remains Kristoff in the $1.2bn smash Frozen, a film he refers to as “like crack for children”. He’s just started work on the sequel. “Kristin, Josh, Idina and I are on a text chain where we make voice memos as the characters to auction off for kids or kids with cancer,” he says. “It’s so fun to be a part of that and get them more excited. Often there are a lot of hilarious awkward moments when parents are like, ‘This is Kristoff from Frozen?’ They’re like, ‘What?’ They don’t understand that I’m the voice of the thing. I’m not blond and a cartoon.”
His most notable fan is none other than Beyoncé, who approached him after she saw Hamilton to compliment his performance and his walk, which she proceeded to impersonate. “This is going to sound so weird and stalkery, but I just feel blessed to have been in her presence and shaken her hand. Nothing that I could have said to her could have articulated the depth of my feelings for her.”
Groff wasn’t part of the Hamilton cast when vice-president Mike Pence attended to the sound of boos and a speech (“classy and heartfelt,” Groff says of their words) but there’s an odd political parallel in Mindhunter. The show revolves around the difficulty inherent in finding empathy with those you find distasteful, and how the intellectualism of the FBI was seen as an affront to smalltown police at the time.
“Trump got elected while we were in the final months of shooting so it wasn’t like we were making this show with that in mind,” says Groff. “But I can’t help but think, when I watch it back, the idea of how divided everybody is. The idea of faking empathy to take a step forward to understanding – it’s a really powerful idea.”
Mindhunter is on Netflix from 13 October

Best of ‘17 — TV
TV
This year’s best include a wide variety: historical recreations of Hollywood, a fantasy medieval world on the brink of all out war, two separate shows with drag queens, the secret lives of soccer moms, a revival 25 years in the making, a documentary about America’s greatest shame and an Emmy-winning adaptation of a book hitting a little too close to home.
Honorable Mention: Scandal (ABC)
Shonda Rhimes finally got her damn groove back. After watching The Catch and Still Star-Crossed fizzle out and a less-than-stellar third season of How To Get Away With Murder, Shonda’s flagship Scandal was back on track after two seasons of stagnant WTF-dom. Season six brought us back into the world of Olivia Pope with a bang when president-elect Frankie Vargas is assassinated. And it just gets crazy in the best way possible from there. We really get a glimpse again of the Olivia we all have loved since the first season and probably the best performances to date for Bellamy Young as Mellie Grant and Darby Stanchfield as Abby. And with Shonda announcing season seven will be the show’s last, this season could have served as its conclusion, but now we get to see Shonda’s gloves off for this final season with nothing held back, and a darker Olivia Pope with no white hat, now running B-613.
Outstanding Episode: “Trojan Horse” (Original airdate: 4/20/2017)
Mellie’s future to the White House is suddenly in doubt when Cyrus is pardoned for Frankie’s assassination and makes his pwn play for the White House, despite a massive campaign against him. Olivia wants to help Cyrus, even as her father warns her not to, for so many reasons, the biggest of which remains the shadow cabal who arranged for Frankie’s assassination and Mellie’s eventual win. The meat of this episode comes when Mellie meets her unexpected benefactors, Plus and Ruland, who she tries to threaten, only for Ruland to off her chief of staff, Elizabeth North (Portia de Rossi) via a golf club to the skull. Mellie is broken down and a total pawn for whatever they want to her to do. Elsewhere, Fitz breaks it off with his girlfriend, the FBI director, who pushes for Rowan’s arrest, which Fitz has already done, for his protection. Fitz and Olivia FINALLY get back together as everyone gets ready to take the shadowy organization down once and for all.
Honorable Mention: American Horror Story: Cult (FX)
I was not expecting to put this back on my best of list. Roanoke was disappointing in so many aspects. So when season seven was announced, and a theme element of the 2016 election announced, I was already ready to tune out. But something about this season is a brilliant commentary on our hive mind ideology of democrat vs republican, liberal v conservative, etc. It’s also just flat out scary. We see the lives of a lesbian couple Ally (Paulson) and Ivy (Alison Pill) as they adjust to the post-election realities, especially since Ally is damn near afraid of everything. We also meet the charismatic Kai Anderson (Evan Peters in his best AHS role to date) - a cult leader who seems to be able to read his followers and get exactly what he wants out of them. Unlike the prior six seasons, there’s nothing supernatural here, it’s all things that, could, can and have happened in the last year. What I love is that the show is not just skewed to show the evils of the alt-right, we see the exaggeration on both sides. And yet it’s still got its funny moments (“lesbians we’re under attack”) and true terror. I was ready to dismiss this season but it has truly become the show’s best since its inaugural season.
Outstanding Episode: “Drink the Kool-Aid” (Original airdate: 10/31/2017)
First off, props to Evan Peters. He played not only his role of Kai, but four additional roles in this one episode. In a massive flashback tapestry we see Peters’ Kai tell the stories of the Branch-Davidians (Peters playing David Koresh), Heaven’s Gate (Peters playing Marshall Applewhite) and finally the People’s Temple (Peters playing Jim Jones and later Jesus in a lie Kai tells his cult about Jones’s fate). Through these stories we see how Kai has managed to shape his own cult from the past and learn from what has worked and what hasn’t. Kai announces his intent to run for Senate but also forces his cult members to truly declare that they would do anything for him in the times to come. So he brings the men and women together and has them literally drink the kool-aid. The men do it willingly, the women at gunpoint, all nervous about sacrificing themselves only for Kai to reveal there was nothing in the drink. The sheer terror at so many of those involved in this scene truly sell its horror (special shoutout goes to Adina Porter’s Beverly Johnson for finally cracking amid her to-date strength). The other standout is the “B plot” as it seems all is well again with Ally and Ivy - as Ally explains that she has conquered her phobias by using her energy on getting revenge. So, yeah, Ally has poisoned her wife’s wine and pasta as revenge for institutionalizing her. And then she plays her next card deftly forging donor records that claim Kai is her son’s father. Sarah Paulson continues to be the show’s MVP every year because her range shows so many different sides every time. In this one episode Ally stops being a victim and starts to plot her way out of the cult, and taking Kai down with her.
10) Game of Thrones (HBO)
Winter has finally arrived in Westeros and shit just hits the fan from here on out. Even with a HUGE threat to the entire region from the White Walkers, we watch as Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) FINALLY lands on her home soil and proceeds to try and make her claim for the Iron Throne. Cersei (Lena Headey) allies with Euron Greyjoy to cement her hold on the Seven Kingdoms; in the North, Sansa (Sophie Turner) tries to keep things together while Littlefinger (Aiden Gillen) schemes. Basically we get a season’s worth of plot in seven episodes, and they all were so fantastic. Lots of action, but for the final season I want Benioff and Weiss to remember their prior six seasons had far better writings and less contrived coincidences. But the stage is set for a truly epic finale that will determine once and for all who will hold the Iron Throne…if the White Walkers don’t kill everyone first.
Outstanding Episode: The Queen’s Justice (Original airdate: 7/30/2017)
The long-awaited meeting between Dany and Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) is just one of the many highlights of this episode. We see Dany overtly trying to get Jon to “bend the knee”in fealty to her. Jon tries to convince Daenerys to abandon her quest for the Throne and aid their fight against the White Walkers. It’s a very frosty exchange between the two, and it looks like the alliance we all want may not actually be happening. Cersei enacts her revenge on Ellaria Sand (Indira Varma) for murdering her daughter Myrcella. The scene excels with a beautiful monologue performed by Headey where you see Cersei’s pain and anger. You might hate her like I do, but there’s times like this, you can’t say you’d do the same for your child. Cersei kisses Ellaria’s daughter Tyene with the same poison they used on Myrcella, and forces the guards to keep her eyes open so she can watch her die. Tyrion, meanwhile, gives Dany an inside scope of where to attack to let Cersei know about their presence: the Lannister stronghold of Casterly Rock. The Unsullied take the castle with little resistance, only to learn that Lannister forces have marched on Highgarden and taken it, and with it, Targaryen ally Olenna Tyrell (Diana Rigg). Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) and Olenna have probably one of the most epic scenes in series history. Olenna takes her fate - death by poison - as she has everything in the series, with her trademark wit and devil may care attitude. She flat-out tells Jaime she arranged Joffrey’s death and that she wants Cersei to know it was her. Diana Rigg’s performance in the series and this final episode are just one of the many things I’ve loved about Olenna and was so heartbroken when her time was up.
9) Feud: Bette and Joan (FX)
Ryan Murphy continues a streak on FX that translates into brilliance…as long as he isn't the sole writer. We’ve all known about this infamous feud between Hollywood legends Bette Davis and Joan Crawford that exploded during the filming of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane. This new series from Murphy really highlights the sexism of Hollywood, the way the two stars were baited against each other and the lasting effect it left on the two of them. This is just a star vehicle of excellence for both Jessica Lange’s Crawford - obsessive, scheming, paranoid but refined and Susan Sarandon’s Davis - witty, shrewd and blunt. The supporting players like Alfred Molina’s Robert Aldrich and Stanley Tucci’s Jack Warner all help support them (but special note given to Jackie Hoffman’s Mamacita, Crawford’s long suffering and lovely maid, and Judy Davis’s pitch-perfect portrayal of gossip columnist Hedda Hopper) but it’s just a tour-de-force from both leading ladies. You almost feel pulled in both directions on who to root for: Crawford or Davis, but the end result shows how Hollywood works. One day you’re the talk of the town, the next you can't even get arrested and make the papers. Brilliant work!
Outstanding Episode: And The Winner Is-The Oscars of 1963 (Original airdate: 4/2/2017)
After Joan is denied a nomination for her work on Baby Jane, she and Hedda set out to ensure that Bette’s nomination is not going to get her a win. Crawford makes the rounds with the other nominees, convincing Geraldine Page (Sarah Paulson in a brief cameo) and Anne Bancroft to not attend the ceremony and allow her (Crawford, that is) to accept the award on their behalf if they win. Hedda, meanwhile, buries Bette with the Academy and the press with stories from the set of Baby Jane, some true and some not. Oscar night comes and Jessica Lange’s Crawford is in a full tour-de-force of rubbing it in. She presents the Oscar she is slated to, then in a brilliant tracking shot, goes backstage and gets ready for the Best Actress category. When Anne Bancroft wins, seeing Sarandon portray Bette’s heartbreak as Lange’s Crawford struts past, victorious, is the high point of this beautiful series.
8) The Boulet Brothers’ DRAGULA: The Search for The Next Drag Supermonster (YouTube)
This series has upped its game in a big way for 2017. After a very cool and very punk season one (voted one of the best year by IMDB), season two took off like a rocket. Bigger budget, bigger guest judges, more intense extermination challenges and a cast that spans the country. The Boulet Brothers have definitely made their little-series-that-could into the little-series-that-IS. We’ve upped the game, and these queens want to truly show the world they’re the next supermonster, whether it’s fashionable yet fierce Abhorra, the completely wacky Disasterina or the cosplay-themed-yet-fierce Erika Klash. This cast brought it and made this show even better, and that’s before you factor in how bigger the show got in a year. With the Boulets saying that anyone can audition, we may have something to answer the call for those who don’t fit the mold for other drag TV competition series. And that’s a good thing!
Outstanding Episode: Episode Three (Original airdate: 11/14/2017)
My fav on season two was Biqtch Puddin, and I’m 100 percent biased because she’s my sister. And she had a rough start to her run on Dragula - a misunderstood outfit week one and a low performance week two that led her to face her first extermination challenge. Going into week three, the Boulets wanted to give Biqtch a challenge, so in announcing the rock band challenge, both Victoria Elizabeth Black (the winner of the challenge) and Biqtch (who had performed low beyond the Boulets’ expectations) were given the role of lead singer for the two groups’ rock bands. And BIQTCH. TURNED. IT. OUT. For one she was the only contestant to turn out big ‘80s rock hair, and her outfit was a loving tribute to Pete Burns, glam rock and more. Her performance as lead singer, along with her entire group’s synchronicity boosted them to the top and gave Biqtch a much needed win after two low weeks. She really did it and I was so happy to see that. In general this week was a great episode: fun challenge, lots of tributes to punk and grunge rock and you can really tell the girls enjoyed this one. We also got to hear a little bit about Dahli’s touring with Blood on the Dance Floor - and how she quit touring with the band because of an HIV diagnosis. I love that this show is able to play with soft and hard so beautifully. We can be talking about real issues one minute, and the next you see these beautiful super monsters taking their pain and using it to their benefit on the runway. Sadly for Kendra Onixx, her time was up after missing the mark in her runway, performance and not being able to grin and bear the extermination challenge of getting the most embarrassing/trashy tattoo. This series continues to just be all pleasure and no guilt, and I love every second of it.
7) American Gods (Starz)
Neil Gaiman’s best non angelic/devil story (which has its own series coming soon to Amazon) took off like a bandit this year with this show that made me actually watch Star for the first time ever. The combination of Bryan Fuller’s beautiful creative direction with Gaiman’s text and imagination result in the one of the most creative and innovative shows this year. Ricky Whittle gives a star making turn as our lead Shadow Moon, released from jail as his wife has died, and meets a mysterious stranger. Ian McShane was the perfect choice for Mr. Wednesday, as we begin to get into the (literal) mythology, setting up the war to come between the Old Gods and the New. Gillian Anderson also must be praised for her seamless portrayals as Media in the forms of Lucille Ball, David Bowie, Marilyn Monroe and Judy Garland. I love that we learn about the origins of so many gods coming to America, and setting up what’s to come for the second season and beyond!
Outstanding Episode: “Come to Jesus” (Original airdate: 6/18/17)
There were so many fantastic episodes in the first season, it was really hard to narrow down to what truly was the best. But seeing Shadow finally realize what world is was finally apart of is a thrill. Wednesday and Shadow make their way to a celebration thrown by Ostara (Kristin Chenoweth) for spring, just as Media, Mr. World and Tech Boy **and** the same time as Shadow’s not-dead wife Laura (Emily Browning) and leprechaun Mad Sweeney (Pablo Schreiber). So shit gets real VERY quick as Shadow finally catches on he’s among gods. And this is where the most amazing things happen. We learn Wednesday was behind Laura’s death in a car accident and when Media tries to persuade Ostara to join the New Gods, let’s just say shit get biblical. Odin, that is Wednesday, unleashes his power, and encourages Ostara to do the same. We get to see Ostara make things bloom…and wither. From here, Odin and Ostara — and Shadow have drawn their line in the sand that will be the big focus of season two!
6) RuPaul’s Drag Race (VH1)
Hot off a fantastic year of season 8 AND All Stars 2, Drag Race had won its first Emmy for mama Ru’s hosting AND made the switch to VH1. Season 9 upped the game with Lady Gaga as the show’s first guest judge and brought us some of the series’ best contestants to date, whether it was the slaytastic Shea Coulee, artsy Sasha Velour or even the amazing tucking talents of Trinity Taylor. The judges were bigger and better (Kesha, The B-52s, Joan Smalls, Cheyenne Jackson!), the challenges upped the stakes and the eliminations got more and more WTF as the season went on. PLUS mama Ru had had enough half-assed lip-syncs and completely changed the format of the finale to make the finalists TRULY work for the crown.
Outstanding Episode: “Your Pilot’s On Fire” (Original air date: 5/19/2017)
Bitch if ever we were to surpass “what did Willam do” - I’m pretty sure we did with this episode. Ru tasks the final seven to come up their own pilots for network TV. Sasha and Shea, whose chemistry and partnership worked previously in the season, slayed with their spy-comedy Teets And Asky; Peppermint, Trinity Taylor and Alexis Michelle were good for all the wrong reasons (But Trinity’s Sister Mary Kuhnt was HILARIOUS!) due to a lot of infighting mostly from Alexis’s perfectionist tendencies and capacity to throw her other team members right in the path of any oncoming bus. And then there was Valentina and Nina Bo’nina Brown. Woefully underprepared with no script, their attempts to ad-lib don’t wow Michelle Visage and Carson Kressley. The runway theme, club kid, is a true standout among the nine seasons of the show, but big shock, Val and Nina are bottom two, and lip-syncing to Ariana Grande’s “Greedy.” Valentina’s mask stays on at the beginning, and we ALL noticed. And for the first time ever, RuPaul has to stop a lip-sync to ask Valentina to take her mask off. Valentina, to that point, had been portrayed as the sweetest girl in the cast. So when “I’d like to keep it on please” came out of her mouth, the fanbase was shook (we’d be even more shook at the Reunion by her behavior). Valentina throwing in the towel officially, to me, ties Willam’s elimination for the most shocking moment in the show’s history. It also happens in one of this season’s best episodes, and just truly shook up who I thought would make it to the finale.
5) The Vietnam War (PBS)
If you are my age, and you were in high school learning U.S. history - your teacher probably rushed through the 20th century in the span of two weeks or less. If that. Vietnam is usually a day, or two, maybe a week if you’re lucky. And we don’t know nearly enough, my generation that is, about one of the greatest embarrassments in our lifetime. Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s 10-part, 18 hour masterpiece truly encompasses every single facet of the Vietnam War - the U.S.’s involvement, the North and South Vietnamese armies and governments, the anti-war protests, the U.S.government. There’s so much to unpack and Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s interviews, research, set to the music of the ‘60s and ‘70s and guided by Peter Coyote’s steady narration. By the end of it all it feels like you’re gone through the war your self and you will most definitely ask what the fuck were we doing there as so many have over the years. Ken Burns may be known for his Civil War documentary but I truly believe because he was able to tell these stories from the sources, that this will be his masterpiece.
Outstanding Episode: “Part 6: Things Fall Apart” (Original air date: 9/24/2017)
Most episodes cover a few years of the 20+ year war but this part covers one event that would change so much of the war. The Tet Offensive from January to July 1968. Hearing the stories of American veterans who were stuck on hills for months while the Vietcong rained down on them, and hearing the same stories from the other side is just incredible. But I think the point that this episode drives home is the perception and appearance of the fake activities of the war. We see one of the most iconic images of the war - the execution of Nguyễn Văn Lém. It’s a photo we’ve all seen in our history books, but we learn the whole story about this execution from this episode. I didn’t know there was video of this - color video. We learn Lém was found near a mass grave of bodies and that a general executed him on his own decision. Despite my very desensitized nature, seeing the video put a giant pit in my stomach…and if I wasn’t already against the war from the first five parts, this convinced me so much that this war was being fought for the wrong reasons.
4) Big Little Lies (HBO)
Limited series are completely in vogue right now, and this is without a doubt one of the best ever. A whodunit murder in Monterrey, California, occurs at a trivia night and we backtrack to meet all the players and suspects. You have high-strung Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), perfectionist Celeste (Nicole Kidman) meeting new single mom Jane (Shaleine Woodley). Things seems off when Jane’s son Ziggy is accused of attacking the daughter of Renata Klein (Laura Dern in what more than easily netted her an Emmy in my opinion) and a series of misunderstandings and power plays occur. (You think corporate greed is bad and under-handed? You haven't seen Witherspoon’s Martha outdo Dern’s Renata on a birthday party Jane’s son wasn’t invited to!) I am always in love with shows that show the dark underside of those “perfect, ideal suburbs.” And this is no exception. Everyone here fires on all cylinders, but the cream of the crop here is Kidman’s Celeste, especially when you learn her husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgard) is beating her. The way Kidman’s confidence is put on and later crumbles is haunting. But I also must give props to Laura Dern is truly having the best year of her career ever (more on this later in the list, twice, no less) and Renata is just a juicy and perfect role for her. People want a second season of this, but I strongly disagree. The majesty and brilliance of this show is in its limited form, and as much as I’d love to see more from all involved, it’s way better and far more powerful as a standalone limited miniseries.
Outstanding Episode: Burning Love (Original airdate: 3/26/2017)
It’s so hard for me to pick one episode, because literally every single of these episodes were brilliant. But the setup right before the epic revelations in the finale was just too perfect. Jane’s search for her rapist (and Ziggy’s father) hits a dead-end, just as Renata draws up a petition to suspend Ziggy. Woodley and Dern going toe-to-toe is just absolutely epic and I couldn't take my eyes off their confrontation. Kidman also excels this hour as Perry’s beatings finally give her courage to look for an apartment, in the first step to leaving him. Martha is livid that her daughter is auctioning her virginity off online, AND her affair from years back is still obsessed with her. Witherspoon more than makes up for lost time the other ladies have gained with this one scene. It’s just once again a complete tour de force of shade and style and substance.
3) Twin Peaks (Showtime)
I’ve waited patiently for this - since I first started watching the original on Netflix three years ago. And it’s so hard to try and describe this without giving crucial plot points away…AND because David Lynch’s brilliant work is sometimes so hard to dissect. OK, so…after the ending of season two, NegaCoop/Evil Cooper/BOB is still in our world, Dale Cooper himself is still stuck in the Black Lodge. And some transference has to happen for Nega to go back and Dale to exit…but Nega has planned for this and created dimwitted Dougie Jones, whose body Dale switches places with. Does that make any sense? No…well it’s David Lynch so fuck it! Now CONFIDENTLY, I can say that Kyle MacLachlan delivers three fantastic performances, that we connect to the original two seasons wonderfully and Fire Walk With Me perfectly and the entire thing is shot to Lynchian perfection. Everyone involved with this, from Sherilyn Fenn’s return as Audrey, to Robert Forster as new Twin Peaks sheriff Frank Truman (Harry’s brother) fire on all cylinders, but my hat goes off to Laura Dern as the previously mentioned but never seen Diane for delivering a chic character with a LOT of panache. (Special mention also has to be given to the late Catherine Coulson’s Log Lady and Miguel Ferrer’s Albert Rosenfeld for giving their characters more depth and final performances that will continue to make their stars shine). This limited series was something I was looking forward to each Sunday and feel honestly honored to watch a true work of art play out every week. Even if the ending was beyond frustrating, it was all about the journey this summer and honestly one of the best summer TV journeys I’ve ever had.
Outstanding Episode: “Part 16” (Original airdate: 8/27/2017)
The first fifteen weeks were amazing Lynchian art, but the penultimate week had plot development for days. After Dougie stuck a fork in an outlet (it’s a very long story, just watch this brilliant season), he’s in a coma BUT wakes up as the Dale Cooper we’ve all loved. And he’s ready to head back to Twin Peaks. Meanwhile, NegaCoop (he’s called Mr. C in most press but it’s just more fun for me) takes wayward fuckup Richard Horne (Eamon Ferren), Audrey’s (and later revealed HIS) son with him to coordinates given to him. Richard dies by electrocution meant for NegaCoop and knows that one set of coordinates is false, and the other will lead him back to Twin Peaks and to a showdown with his doppelgänger. Meanwhile (see what I did there, Peaks fans?) in North Dakota, Diane Evans (Dern) is contacted by NegaCoop and seems to convulse. She meets with her FBI allies Gordon Cole (David Lynch), Albert (Ferrer) and Tammy Preston (Chrysta Bell) revealing what happened when she met “Cooper” years ago. In short, NegaCoop raped her, took her. And then Diane freaks, saying she’s in the sheriff’s station and pulls a gun on her company, only to be shot by Albert and Tammy. Diane then vanishes to the Red Room, where MIKE (Al Strobel) realizes she’s been manufactured. Meanwhile meanwhile, Audrey Horne (Sherilynn Fenn) after two episodes of will she/won't she FINALLY goes to the Roadhouse with her husband. After a performance by Eddie Vedder, it’s announced the band will play “Audrey’s Dance.” Audrey then recreates her iconic dance from the pilot episode only to be interrupted by a sparring match between two men. “Get me out of here” Audrey says to Charlie, only to awake in a white room somewhere in front a mirror, crackling with electricity. And we still don't know where THAT is! (Seriously, David Lynch, do what you want but why include Audrey only to leave us hanging?!)
2) Stranger Things (Netflix)
One of the best surprises of last year has rightfully become a pop culture phenomenon and become one of the best made, best acted and just most fun shows on any medium right now. Set a year after the Vanishing of Will Byers, we rejoin the gang in Hawkins as Lucas and Dustin (Caleb McLaughlin, Gaten Matarazzzo) vie for the attention of new girl Max (Sadie Sink) who just might be able to hang with the gang, Mike (Finn Wolfhard) still coping with the loss of Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown), Joyce (Winona Ryder) has a new beau (Sean Astin in a role that is just awkward HIL. AR. ITY.) oh and Will (Noah Schnapp) is having episodes (flashes of the Upside Down) on the regular. Things all begin coming to a head as something new from the Upside Down is coming, and it’s not going to stop with Will, it wants Hawkins, it wants the world. And it provides some of the best TV this year. This show’s word-of-mouth in season one is what contributed to its success, and I think the Duffer Brothers were able to build on that and make this season a standout, a great companion to the first and reset everything for its next two seasons.
Outstanding Episode: Chapter Two-Trick or Treat, Freak (Original airdate: 10/27/2017)
After we find out that not only is Eleven alive, but out of the Upside Down AND LIVING WITH HOPPER - you know I clicked NEXT EPISODE and FAST! We learn how El escaped, setting up a great set of small flashbacks for the rest of the season. But the main event here is Halloween with our heroes, taking full splendor of 1984 with Ghostbusters. (And being the only kids in Hawkins to wear their costumes to school - didn’t you hate when this happened to you?) I really enjoyed seeing the gang begin to try and let Max (Sadie Sink) into their ranks. But our focus this episode is two fold. We first get to see the boys trick-or-treating and we see Will being bullied as “zombie boy” and other nicknames (kids are the worst and its even driven home more later when Joyce, knocked back into the Upside Down. But this time with a video camera that will prove to be very crucial later. We also are privy to the high school’s Halloween party as Nancy (Natalia Dyer) and Steve (Joe Keery) begin to have issues. Nancy, especially, still wracked by guilt over the death and disappearance of her best friend Barb. It’s weird to see the dynamics shift of Steve being the responsible one and Nancy spiraling out of control. We’re still setting a lot of things up here, but the binge continues as Halloween winds down as Dustin finds something in his trashcan that changes the course of the entire season.
1) The Handmaid’s Tale (Hulu)
Even if the election of 2016 hadn’t essentially made this work of fiction a bit more real, I would still have given this the #1 slot. Margaret Atwood’s dystopian novel has been a favorite of mine for years and the world of Gilead has needed an onscreen revival after its entertaining but bare ‘90s adaptation. Enter creator and show runner Bruce Miller who took the novel and made a series that is equal parts terrifying, inspiring and breathtaking. The world of Gilead is expanded, lived in, and utterly terrifying in a post-11/8 “45” presidency. But it’s the best show on any platform right now. This is Elisabeth Moss’s show, because she absolutely vanishes into the role of Offred. We get to see how Gilead came to be, through Offred’s eyes and it’s one of the many strengths Miller has made for the series. A first person narrative is amazing, but can only go so far. The series goes beyond only what Offred sees in the novel - we see WAY more here and it sets a lot up. And it’s not just Moss, the entire cast is just fantastic, whether it’s Yvonne Strahovski’s cold and calculating performance as Serena Joy, Samira Wiley’s inspiring Moira - a Handmaid that has escaped, or the Emmy-winning talents of Ann Dowd as the cruel Aunt Lydia. Atwood’s novel is seen during season one and I’m curious what season two is gonna bring us with things never seen in the novel. This is the best 2017 gave us and I knew on its first day of release. The series is a warning, it’s a rally cry, and it is also an inspiring message to never give in, even when things are absolutely horrid. As was written by a Handmaid, and found by Offred: nolite te bastardes carborundum.
Outstanding Episode: “Late” (Original airdate: 4/26/2017)
This isn’t even Elisabeth Moss’ best episode. The reason this episode is the best of the year is because of Alexis Bledel’s Emmy winning performance. AND DOESNT EVEN SAY A WORD DURING THE WHOLE HOUR. We focus on Offred adjusting to the new Ofglen that has replaced Bledel’s. Aunt Lydia interrogates her and Serena assumes Offred is pregnant and defends her against her treatment. (She’s not.) Later when Serena finds this out, Strahovski’s anger and malice play beautifully as she forcibly drags Offred upstairs to confine her to her room. But that’s not the highlight and not why this is the best episode of TV this year. For this we must go back to Ofglen/Emily and Alexis Bledel. She’s been removed from her assigned residence for being a lesbian, a gender traitor and a crime in Gilead, especially the fact that she’s had a secret relationship. She and the Martha (another class of female servants) are sentenced - the Martha hanged (in a tracking shot as a van pulls Bledel away to her own punishment and sentence. We don’t see that until the episode’s end when Dowd’s pious Aunt Lydia comes in to tell Emily she won't want for what she can’t have. We then look down to see she has under gone genital mutilation. Bledel’s silence is finally broken as she screams, and it’s a chilling end to a brilliantly tragic hour of TV.

Wild left looking for number-two number-four
Non-league Football Preview
MOSSLEY boss Dave Wild has been left looking for his fourth assistant in less than a year after Paul Phillips quite Seel Park this afternoon (Friday) to take over as manager of Matlock Town.
The move represents a Derbyshire treble for the former goalkeeper who has also been in charge at Glossop North End and Buxton.
“It was only a short stay but Phillo did a lot for Mossley and I’ve benefited greatly from his experience and help,” said Wild. “I want to thank him for everything he did and wish him well for the future. I’m sure he’ll be a success at Causeway Lane.”
At the end of last season, Terry Hincks quit as the Lilywhites’ number-two. Over the summer he was replaced by John Flanagan, who resigned in November. Phillips took the post just before Christmas.
Szymon Czubik returns for tomorrow’s game at Widnes in the BetVictor NPL first division north west having been signed on loan from Stockport County until the end of the campaign. The Polish-born striker made ten appearances for Mossley last year.
Wild has also brought in 18-year-old midfielder Sam Kilner from Buxton. Ben Richardson has moved to Ramsbottom United.
Mossley have a full squad except for Godwin Abadaki who has a dislocated shoulder.
Right-sided player Matthew Williams has gone from Seel Park to the Butchers Arms, signing for DROYLSDEN alongside midfielder Keano Deacon from Burgess Hill.
The two players are needed to strengthen a side where Harry Noren, Andreas Bianga and Jack Kay were all injured in training last night (Thursday) and will miss the trip to fellow midtable outfit City of Liverpool.
In the first division south west, GLOSSOP NORTH END will have to take on third-placed Cleethorpes Town at Surrey Street without Bakari Coulibali, who is unavailable, and Will Hartshorne and Ali Sheriff who are injured.
Jordan Fitton has broken a metatarsal and could be out for six weeks.
Keenan Quansah returns after missing Tuesday’s draw with Worksop, and co-managers Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison have made a double signing, bringing in defender Jack O’Leary from Stalybridge Celtic and Swedish striker Alexander Rosenberg from Taby FK.
Wideman Jamal Crawford has joined CURZON ASHTON who travel to Hereford in National League North fresh from their impressive 4-0 victory over Farsley Celtic last Saturday. The pacey former Hyde United player has impressed manager Mark Bradshaw in training.
Andy Halls is back in contention after completing a two-match ban but Andy Scott, who made an impressive cameo against Farsley after coming on as a sub — scoring one goal and making another — is back at Accrington having completed his loan.
Bradshaw was keen to keep him longer but was unable to reach agreement with the League One club.
It’s been a very busy day at STALYBRIDGE CELTIC where manager Simon Haworth has organised several loan moves in and out of the club ahead of Nantwich Town’s visit to Bower Fold in the BetVictor NPL premier division.
Celtic’s impressive run through December has come to a halt with a 3-0 reverse at Atherton and a 3-2 home defeat by Basford after they held a 2-0 lead with 30 minutes left.
Haworth brings in Southport midfielder Paddy Lacey, and striker Glenn “Ethan” Walker and midfielder Adam O’Reilly from Preston.
Neil Kengni, so often a star man for the Bridge, has gone to Marine and Jack O’Leary moves to Glossop.
Striker Craig Hobson remains sidelined with a broken foot.
Speaking to the club website, Haworth described himself as thrilled to sign Lacey, adding that fans can expect to see two more signings.
He said: “ I feel we’ve hit a bit of a wall and things need freshening up. There will be a couple more signings that I wasn’t able to get over the line this week. I feel we need four or five new faces.
“I’m thrilled to have signed Paddy Lacey. He’s a proper, proper footballer — a real leader who takes no nonsense from his own team or the opposition. I feel that’s what we need.”
ASHTON UNITED’s three-game unbeaten run faces a stiff test as they face second-placed Lancaster City at Hurst Cross. Manager Mike Clegg, who held a supporters’ question-and-answer session tonight, has a full — and confident — squad to call on.
After winning their Cheshire Senior Cup tie at Winsford on Monday, HYDE UNITED will be hoping they can end their run of league defeats by beating Grantham at Ewen Fields.
Dan Turner, who turned down a seven-day approach from a fellow premier division club earlier this week, is definitely out. Fellow striker Chris Sharp is doubtful.
Manager Dave McGurk has signed attacking midfielder Iliman Ndiaye on a youth loan from Sheffield United and Guiseley’s former FC United and Ashton United keeper Lloyd Allinson. Allison comes in for Luke Mewitt who has been recalled by Huddersfield Town.

St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian
Ryan Stevenson is fortunate not to be shown a second yellow card as he trips Kyle Magennis.
It was either a foul or a by-kick as it comes off the St Mirren last, but the officials go for a corner!

Another change for Hibs and this one might be tactical as another speed merchant, Daryl Horgan replaces Joe Newell in midfield.

PENALTY APPEAL
St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian
The home fans rise in anger as their cries for a penalty are ignored after Ryan Flynn jinks into the box and Sam Foley is sent flying by a nudge in the back from Martin Boyle.
They do win a corner and another shout for a spot kick follows as Gary MacKenzie is impeded.

Boyle replaces Kamberi
St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian
Hibs are forced into a change with striker Florian Kamberi walking gingerly from the field with what looks like a back injury.
On comes Martin Boyle, the winger who is himself continuing his return from long-term injury but whose pace could provide an added problem for the St Mirren defence.

‘Yellow card right decision’

Quote Message: The yellow card is the right decision because the ball was going out of play. It wasn’t a clear goalscoring opportunity and there were defenders getting back to cover

YELLOW CARD – Maxwell (Hibs)
St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian
Hibs goalkeeper Chris Maxwell is fortunate to avoid a red card as he has a rush of blood to the head, comes charging out of his penalty box and takes down Kyle Magennis with a wild lunge.
Referee Bobby Madden only produces a yellow, presumably because the St Mirren midfielder was heading away from goal.

KICK-OFF
St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian
St Mirren get the second half under way. They have 45 minutes to avoid losing their game in hand over the three other sides on the same points at the foot of the table without picking up a point.

McAllister needed by St Mirren?

Quote Message: It’s been congested in the middle of the park. Scott Allan started well, but as the half wore on, even Allan struggled to make penetrating passes forward. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Kyle McAllister in the second half for St Mirren

All square at Firhill
HT: Partick Thistle 1-1 Alloa Athletic
Kenny Crawford
BBC Sport Scotland at Firhill
Really entertaining game of football so far here in Maryhill, where Partick Thistle applied serious pressure towards the end of the first-half to find a leveller after going behind to the plucky Wasps.
Alan Trouten had put Alloa ahead by cleverly diverting Scott Taggart’s shot past stand-in Jags goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon.
Kenny Miller had already hit the cross-bar before Darío Zanatta was in the right place to convert from Reece Cole’s corner as half-time approached.
As it stands, McCall’s Thistle revival is stalling and, if it stays as it is, the Glasgow side will remain at the foot of the Championship behind tonight’s visitors.

Alan Stubbs
Former Hibs manager on BBC Sportsound
Quote Message: There’s not been a lot between the two teams. St Mirren have had the better chances. Hibs started on the front foot then St Mirren came into it and Hibs took the lead against the run of play. You can see something in this game for St Mirren

HALF-TIME St Mirren 0-1 Hibernian
Christian Doidge has gone from dunce to dangerman by ending a nine-game barren spell with four goals in three games.
The English striker’s deflected header is all that stands between the sides in a tight contest of few clear-cut chances.
By the way, replays show that Hibs didn’t have a goal disallowed earlier. Ryan Porteous’ header landed on the back of the net after going over the crossbar.
Even without that, Jack Ross’ side are 45 minutes away from a second win of his Hibs reign – and against his former club.

After lots of Jags pressure, Darío Zanatta finally nabs Thistle an equaliser!
