263. Alec and Maryse have the best character growth in the show. Alec started out thinking he couldn’t have everything he wanted and he ended up having just that. thought it best to control his emotions and not let them show and literally does the opposite in the end (when Magnus almost dies from Lorenzo’s magic) and went from Magnus leaving him to saying I don’t think I can live without you. Maryse is super prejudiced in the beginning and does a 360 and supports and loves Magnus while being there for her children at the end. she goes from what’s that warlock doing here to walking Magnus down the aisle I’m crying

264. I love how Alec’s first instinct is to save Magnus any way he can. and Magnus just brushes it off as let’s find jace and clary. Magnus please stop caring about people who don’t care about you thanks

265. literally Magnus and Alec sacrifice so much and I hardly seen it talked about in the series. Magnus scarified his magic while Alec sacrificed his life and happiness/sanity just to keep jace safe. and it really makes me mad that jace is never thankful for all Alec does for him

Shadowhunterverse X KNB crossover

A/N: As I recently made a headcanon regarding the two fandoms I am most known for, I am hereby making an inverse one. Where my previous headcanon details KNB characters in the Shadowhunterverse, this one is about the Shadowhunter characters in the KNB universe.

-Considering I stated that Kise Ryota is definitely a Herondale, this would also still be true in this version of the crossover. Kise is Jace's half-Japanese cousin and Jace often goes to Japan for a vacation destination. Like Kise, he is an athletic prodigy. Whilst he prefers martial arts, he is still prettty decent at basketball and would always join during scrimmages in the summer holidays. I also low-key see him being friendly with Aomine with how interested the latter is in the US and that they occasionally tease Kise together. -Obviously, I cannot talk about Jace having relatives in Japan and often going there, without mentioning his otaku girlfriend. Clary absolutely went bonkers when she learnt Jace had family in Japan and generally tags along to the Herondale family vacations. I can see her being friends with Kuroko who recommend all kinds of light novels to her that she can read after having taken some lessons in Japanese from Jace's parents who became fluent speakers themselves. -Because Jace still became close friends with the Lightwoods in this universe, they have joint the Herondale family on a trip or two, and that was all it took for Isabelle and Momoi to become close. As analytic hot girls with a passion for athletics & that always try to take care of the boys around them, these girls are best friend material who get eachother to a complete T. They chat nearly every day, and Isabelle is glad to have found a girl that is just like her and she can actually relate to as Isabelle has a way smaller friendgroup then Momoi. -Laura (Liqin) Ke is a distant cousin to Wei Lui and showed up during the Winter Cup as she would rather support him then be hounded by her grandma again. -Cameron Ashdown is actually good friends with Himuro and Kagami. They met once at a sports festival held by a couple of middle schools from Los Angeles. He was that awkward friend trying to glue the boys friendships back ogether after they had their infamous fall-out. Kagami always appreciated Cameron for trying to do so and being such a supportive friend. -Speaking of Himuro and the Ashdowns, Paige used to have the most massivve crush on him after he came over to Cameron's birthday party, but Himuro politely shot her down because he's not interested in a bitch. -Vanessa and Paige are also huge fans of team Jabberwock, and attend a lot of their L.A matches. -During Eleanor Blackthorn's cancer treatments, she learnt how to play a Japanese card game from Kiyoshi Teppei who underwent treatment for his injured knee at the same hospital. His protective nature sometimes reminded her of her own son Julian, so she couldn't help but take a liking to the boy. -Emma dated Nijimura for a hot minute during her phase when she was trying to distract herself from her feelings for Julian with other boys after Nijimura went to America. -Diana is gym buddies with Alex. The two women often catch a cup of coffee after working out together.

This is a really good summary of my thoughts on this whole thing! Jace is one point where you can really clearly see the messy intersection of two different themes that CC uses in her books. I love the TSC family tree (I literally made a bunch of fancy ones to put on my wall) but it is something I enjoy in a more lighthearted way, if that makes sense. I think it's fun to see characters across generations who resemble each other, and to feel that connection between people who can never know each other (superficial traits like Clary inheriting Henry's red hair, but also deeper things like Charlotte's leadership and Matthew's love of art). The problem is that while I enjoy it with these characters, in the real world it really bothers me when people make a big deal about family being built on genetic bonds. It doesn't make sense for every Herondale to independently develop similar personalities due to their inherent Herondale-ness, and if we take that idea seriously then it has some really gross implications about basically everything.

Now, in general TSC uses these common family traits in a pretty unserious manner, and it feels more like easter eggs for the fans. That isn't a problem for me; like I said I frankly enjoy it. I think it's fun that the Carstairs family is passionate about music and the Lightwoods always have three siblings (one of whom dies). But with Jace, we see the idea of a "Herondale personality" coming into conflict with the moral stance that your biology doesn't define you (see Clary and Valentine). If Jace can inherit all this stuff (represented by the Herondale name) from a man he never met, then would being Valentine's biological son have made him a worse person? And now I've circled around to the core of the issue: nature vs. nurture. I am not gonna solve that dilemma in a tumblr post about TSC. Frankly, it doesn't matter. My point is just that TMI and Jace in particular show some mixed messaging on the matter, because the story started off with a message about how you can grow beyond what people claim you're predestined for, and ended with the wider TSC universe's perspective that families all carry inherent traits. It doesn't matter what name I think Jace should use, because he is a Herondale. He acts like a Herondale in every way, and even if he called himself Lightwood the readers would still see all the ways he's shaped by his Herondale traits.

My firmest TSC take will always be that Jace should have gone by Lightwood in the end. I get that him being a Herondale makes sense in the grand scheme of the TSC universe (him, Will, James, Kit, and Edmund are all birds of a feather), but his personal arc is far more dependent on the family who raised him. Learning about his biological parents is of course important to him, but calling himself a Herondale doesn't actually feel like a resolution to his identity crisis. TMI is all about rejecting the hatred handed down from previous generations, which is why neither Clary nor Jace identify as Morgensterns. While Stephen was nowhere near as bad as Valentine, he also did even less to shape Jace into his adult self. Robert and Maryse on the other hand actually raised him for half his life, and Alec Isabelle and Max grew up alongside him as his siblings. He's a Lightwood in every way that matters, I don't get why Jace (in-universe) would choose to identify himself as a Herondale when there's nothing tying him to that family but blood spilled before he was born.
