i remembered the other section i wanted to ask about. (NOW i'm going to go cook.)

“It isn’t. About… me. Ok?” J2 wishes he could say it as a kind of comfort, a white lie for the master he still has some obligation towards. But as the words leave his mouth, and he knows, instantly, that they’re the truth. “He… He still—”

“Oh, no. Fuck you.” Jace practically spits the words out, but in his disbelief it devolves into a shrill cackle. “You do not get to tell me that.”

A Message. Jace stalks toward him. His eyes flash red.

You think I don’t already know? I can count every single time he’s been with you wishing it was me, I can feel it, here.

The shatterstar is glowing beneath the fabric of his sweater. Sparks crackle at his fingertips, Jace rising from the floor—there’s a chill in the room, making his skin prick into goose flesh. He’s surging, voice reverberating around the classroom, so forceful it makes the desk lamp rattle and papers go flying. A cup of miscellaneous paperclips, thumbtacks, a pencil sharpener; it’s knocked aside, sending the contents flying. J2 feels something sharp graze his cheek, but he’s too paralyzed with fear to move. “I don’t want to hear how much he misses me. He should’ve thought of that before he put a cavern in my chest!”

Small preamble that this chapter overall was. Very fun to write just bc i think it's fun letting Jace get to be a little batshit. Again like. Mentioned that Jace kinda hangs so strongly over every other scene, so getting into his interiority was fun and I just love putting that little blonde bitch in situations so he's just being stretched so thin.

And i've already mentioned the Porter half did not exist until like. the night before basically b/c i realized the transition from Jace basically admitting to J2 that Porter killed him to J2 sleeping with Porter was like. I thought it was weird to not address that new information that SHOULD be affecting J2's feelings on Porter.

I also was just. Very Hadestownpilled in that moment. Like. Yes i was feeling very strongly about the whole Chant into Hey Little Songbird "if you don't even want my love i'll give it to someone who does [...] someone who appreciates the comforts of a gilded cage [...] someone who could love these walls that hold her close and keep her safe and think of them as my embrace" etc etc and. How Eurydice is so desperate truly backed into that corner. As Jace is asserting why he's here, why he's never coming back, j2 is running right towards Porter because he was always going to find reassurance in Porter. He has a place where he belongs beside Porter. Because of Jace. There was just something about the idea of J2 just like. Running directly into Porter's arms after that experience even with the new reveal of information of the harm he's done to Jace that like. Just clicked. I'm glad i thought of it b/c in the first draft I think it would've felt so incomplete.

Ok. So. I know a lot of this fic has had this emphasis on J2 desperately wanting to keep Porter for himself. Wanting to have something that is his because nothing belongs to him, not even himself. However, the first paragraph:

“It isn’t. About… me. Ok?” J2 wishes he could say it as a kind of comfort, a white lie for the master he still has some obligation towards. But as the words leave his mouth, and he knows, instantly, that they’re the truth. “He… He still—”

To me this is doing double duty. I keep joking that J2 doesn't just worship porter, in a weird way he worships the starbreaker pantheon b/c he sees it as real and beautiful and true (to be fair, he has a very skewed perspective before this!!! He's a recipient of just a fraction of Porter's love and its making him sick in the head so he's like!! Just imagine what Jace is getting!!) but him coveting that relationship is why in this moment he's prioritizing Jace over himself. He knows how good it feels to be loved by Porter, so there is this. Logic that does map onto the way a person loves a god, where they might want to proselytize. The god word of Porter Cliffbreaker, haven't you heard? And Jaceporter is like. His cassankanra. The idea of Jace being without Porter is deeply sad to him because. They're the same!

The other aspect to J2 telling Jace that Porter still loves him is part of the Jace Cares Thesis of IYWD-verse which out of all the jaces he's. Awful but not the worst. Like. J2 is of Jace and Jace is an asshole but. He does have this capacity (if anything, J2 might actually be softer than Jace b/c Jace threw their relationship in his face eagerly in ch 3)

Also! Fun fact. "This isn't about me" is a sister line to "I know I don't matter the way he matters to you" in that they're both technically something I stole from my togakure hookup fic lol. Which I know is kinda lame but if anything i think they're MORE fitting here.

It's just before the scene you picked. But yeah. I'm also just thinking about how unfair it is for Jace to demand J2 go to the mountains of chaos w/ Porter when he's openly expressed his hatred for that relationship. It's like. Yeah i hate this but also i will make you his clothmother you are responsible for him now. And I want it to be you because you're the one who cares. (i know i didn't write this with j3 or j4's personalities in mind but like. To be fair now that we know what they're like, makes sense, sadly. what WERE j3 or j4 gonna do abt it anyway)

Anyway. As unfair as Jace is being, i do think it would be really weird to essentially hear from your ex's new boyfriend that they're still in love with you. Especially if they were kinda you. At the end of the day, I do think Jace is being spiteful about this tho. But this image was just like. Very clear in my mind of this basic interaction from almost the very beginning of this fic i guess? And I knew I wanted to include it. Because Jace is trying so hard to prioritize himself and detract himself from the plan, from Porter.

And I think there's that like. Religious idea of temptation I guess? Like. He doesn't want to hear about the thing he's denying himself! Are you kidding! Especially not from the person who is getting what he is denying himself! But also. The unfairness of that. He PUT J2 there. There's some degree in which he would rather it be J2 than anyone else (J3. Lol)

A Message. Jace stalks toward him. His eyes flash red. You think I don’t already know? I can count every single time he’s been with you wishing it was me, I can feel it, here.

There's something. That.... For me... feels like such a Tell that i'm a theater kid when it comes to the way I use Message when I write. (Like if the emotion is too strong to speak, then sing, if it's too strong to sing, then dance? Something like that). I just think there are some things that feel more impactful if they're not actually spoken? Something about a Message can be really. Intimate. Or scary. It's beyond spoken word. Like its so hard to convey something being actually intimidating with just a character shouting, but to me this is more. Invasive I guess? And therefore scarier.

I mean. Jace wants to twist the knife for sure. But additionally i think there's something tragic i guess abt a like, textual confirmation that yeah Porter's just been wanting jace the whole time, wanting him so much that he's angry at the lacking, at J2 not measuring up. Like. J2 wants this to be for him. And i think there's a degree to which Porter does care about him. But. We knew, but now we know know.

And J2. Doesn't understand why Jace and Porter are not together b/c nobody is telling him anything. He doesn't understand that Jace isn't leaving due to lack of love. Due to lack of want. Porter wants him so much that he hurt him. Had to have him. Had to destroy him. Jace knows everything about Porter wants. He doesn't want to hear that. He's trying to get away from that. He can't justify the harm anymore, and Ruben at frosty fair was his last straw "Lover what have you become" etc etc.

(but he's selfish in his own way. He cares. he can't stop porter or maybe wont stop porter. He's walking away. He knows its going to keep happening. He just can't witness it. He can't escape it. He's going to keep failing them. He thinks keeping J2 on is trying to honor TRGs the best he can. But trying not to fail the ratgrinders, he's failing J2.)

I'm not gonna go over the ENTIRE um... Surge part i just pick imagery i think sounds cool + i think there's the parallel to the same thing happening in IYWD. Surging is such a post-shatterstar embarrassment for Jace bc he's so used to keeping things under wraps but now he's volatile and alienated from his sense of self. I struggle so hard with White Room Syndrome but J2 getting sliced open by my incredibly relatable jar of like. Paper clips and thumbtacks and a stray pencil sharpener is like. Yeah that's a jar of random bullshit i have in my classroom too (i'm not a teacher tho im more like a daycare instructor).

J2 feels something sharp graze his cheek, but he’s too paralyzed with fear to move.

Actually! the original version of this scene did not involve J2 getting hurt! That was the version where J2 did not go to Porter directly after. I know a tiny scrape is like. Nothing but to me the smallness of the injury in contrast to like. The Bigness of Porter's response i think is both funny and.

Became such a Throughline in the IYWDverse. I contemplated it being worse but I liked being able to tie it back to the tiny scrape on Jace's cheek that Porter is like. Obsessing over in chapter 3. It honestly wasn't intentional but Jace and injuries, jace and taking damage is like this whole Thing. The cut on J2's cheek. The cut on Jace's cheek. Porter kissing Jace's scraped and bruised knuckles in the flashback. IYWD literally STARTS with Jace getting brought back from being dropped.

It's just this constant reminder of Jace's mortality. Of jace being this precious thing that he could lose. But he already lost jace! (he did this to himself!) But already losing jace is part of what makes current jace so precious. Already losing jace is part of what makes J2 so precious. And there's that exchange that Porter said in the memory (Pulling from IYWD sorry. I just. If i'm allowed to self congratulate i am proud of this. I like this scene. I like it a lot):

The Porter in the memory says, “I promise, I’m never going to let anything happen to you ever again.” He has the stranger’s hand wrapped up in his, bandaging his bloodied and scraped knuckles. [...] “Are you saying that as a barbarian or a paladin?” replies the stranger. “Both.”

Like. I like this. I like this a lot. There is the occasion where i make something I like. This is that one. I think its romantic but also the perfect amount of wrong. "Never let anything happen to you ever again". Anything? ever? It's about the barbarian need to protect its about the paladin devotion its the best of both it's the worst of both. It's the exact tee-up for this throughline of Ownership and personal autonomy and preservation. It's about control. It's the exact ironic thing that porter needs to say, knowing the the cruelty of "i'll kill you again, Stardiamond" when push comes to shove. It's about him trying to preserve Jace even though he already lost jace. Even though he already killed jace. It's about him trying to keep Jace alive and here but also about grasping onto that memory of jace. "What he doesn't know is that what he's defending is already gone."

And it like. The weight of that is meant to all come back when J2 gets hurt. Skipping ahead slightly (sorry), Porter says to him:

You’ll be good as new. Like—” A strange beat. “Like nothing ever happened.”

Like. The phrasing of that is weird, it treats him like an object which is part of J2's whole problem. He's a gift. And there's the doublespeak of "like nothing ever happened". He's talking to J2. He's talking about jace. He's talking about what he did to jace. He wants to go back to a time before all this. He wants to make Jace as good as new. He already tried to do that. He failed. He has a do over with J2! J2 is not enough.

Alright! Last line!

“I don’t want to hear how much he misses me. He should’ve thought of that before he put a cavern in my chest!”

God i thought this one was gonna be self explanatory and i guess it kinda is. Obviously this is talking about how Porter misses him in the present. It's about how Porter misses Jace because they're not together, they're broken up. But its about how Porter misses Jace all the time. Its about the regret he feels over putting the shatterstar in his chest. Like. Jace is right! He should've thought about that. He should've considered what it meant to destroy Jace in order to make Jace his. Before changing both of their lives forever. But here they are. And they have to live with it.

I guess the final thing is the phrase "cavern in my chest". Which. Originally when you sent me this scene i was like "oh i just think it sounds cool" but i realized. I did try a couple different versions of. Jace saying what exactly Porter did to him. I considered "bashing my head in" something along those lines. Or maying splitting me open and shoving this thing in my chest. something about Porter's maul. I tried a few different things. A lot of them sounded. I don't think brutal would be a WRONG direction to go in a different circumstance, but I think I like "cavern in my chest" b/c it's still Jace shying away from the brutality of what happened. There's still a degree of separation even though it's still a reference to a violent act. No mention of the gem. Not really of HOW he died, more of how he got shatterstarred. But it's a little abstract—cavern, no reference to any body parts or a weapon or anything. If anything, I think it's evocative of this idea of. Having your heart ripped out. Losing a piece of yourself, which is what happened b/c now he's part Porter literally. But more abstractly I think it could also be about heartbreak, like splitting in two. And maybe that is what is was, too, this fundamental betrayal that changed their lives forever. And Jace has to live with that. So yeah. Maybe Jace has a cavern in his chest.

Anyway, once again I am here writing pages upon pages of stuff. I literally always go into these like "idk if i'll have that much to say this time bc i just picked things i thought sounded cool" and then i end up writing a whole dissertation. This scene especially felt like "well idk if i can explain anything bc i was kinda just coasting on vibes" but maybe there was more thought put into it than i thought. Anyway thank you so much!!!!!

Rattling Your Locks by cherie_morte (LJ). Rated NC-17, Jensen/Jared. 50k. Summary:  AU: Born into slavery, Jared has been trained and used as a pleasure slave ever since he was a teenager. Rare and coveted because of his Alpha status, Jared has always sold to the richest and often cruelest of masters. His new master, the young but ruthless CEO of TradeMark Entertainment, Jensen Ackles, seems no different. At least, not until Jared stops to wonder what a consummate Alpha male like Ackles would want with another Alpha as his pleasure slave. Things only get more confusing when Jared arrives at his new master’s home and finds that there are no other slaves. He soon learns that Ackles freed all of his father’s slaves when he inherited them and has been a vocal supporter and patron of anti-slavery groups since. Jared doesn’t know how to reconcile this knowledge with his master’s outward coldness, but the more he learns about Ackles, the less he seems to fit into the assumptions that Jared has made about him. infatuated-ink.livejournal.com/73226.html my thoughts: Normally I don’t go for alpha!Jared but this was an amaaaazing story. The development Jensen and Jared’s characters, the progress they made with each other, was terrific. A few times the events in the story had me take pause but at the end of the day I really liked how sketchy and gray and conflicted everybody was when it came to that reconciliation aspect mentioned in her summary. Sammyverse: 8 Nights of Jessakkuh by shangrilada (LJ). Rated PG-13, Sam/Jessica as well as gencest Sam & Dean, 15k. Summary:  Jessakkuh (it’s a pun!) is an 8-part fic posted over Hanukkah 2011. It’s a Sammyverse story in which Jess is Jewish and Dean comes to Stanford to spend Hanukkah with her and Sam. They get snowed in. Sam has a cold and Jess has a secret. shangrilada.livejournal.com/15450.html my thoughts: For reference, for the entire Sammyverse masterpost is shangrilada.livejournal.com/7345.html. I can’t tell you how much I love this author’s friggin epic series of cuddly asthmatic!Sam and Dean. The cuddles are equally adorable with Jess in the mix, and the three of them being all loving and supportive. Awww. An actor from Texas who got his lucky break in a programme about monsters and demons is now facing them for real annie-46fic.livejournal.com/37542.html my thoughts: I loved how cuddly J2 were in this, especially how clingy Jared is because idk, I love scenes where Sam/Jared reaches for affection and actually gets it (preferably from Jensen/Dean for me haha).  Also some very exciting zombie close calls. In A World So Wrong(Hold On) by malbrynn, R, Jensen/Jared, 27k. Summary:  Six years ago, a viral outbreak spread across the United States, turning people into zombie-like Ghouls–violent creatures that spread across the country, killing and eating their victims. Many of the unfortunate survivors were turned themselves. Now, with real safety only found inside the Walled cities, those on the outside are left to fend for themselves. When an infected Jared turns up on the doorstep of the Temple refuge, Jensen doesn’t know what to think. The existence of Jared–a Ghoul that has somehow retained his humanity–is impossible, but it’s only the first and least of the questions that he brings with him. Now Jensen has the government breaking down the door, and he must quickly find a balance between what he wants and what he’ll allow himself to have. malbryn.livejournal.com/6391.html my thoughts: I love anything that depicts Jared as both a sweetheart and a vicious monster and this story 100% had that. Dragon Spell by virtualpersonal and brimstonegold (LJ). Rated NC-17, Sam/Dean, 112k. Summary:  Crossover with Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern. Snooping around in his father’s storage locker, Sam touches something he shouldn’t and gets sucked into a world where dragonriders must protect their world from a continuous threat of threadfall. Dean follows and finds Sam has lost his memories. Until they get out of this mess, they have to ‘make like the natives.’ virtualpersonal.livejournal.com/206751.html my thoughts: This story was my gateway fic to dragon AUs and it’s been ah👏ma👏zing👏 reading and exploring this one and all the others! While it’s a crossover with Anne McCaffrey’s Pern universe, I had no idea and rolled with it anyway, so you definitely don’t need to have read the McCaffrey’s series to understand this story (but it’s a great in that it gives you the gist of what other Pern x SPN fics incorporate in their crossovers as well). Love the amnesia trope deftly used here to kinda excuse/explain how the wincest unfolds Link to the epub in my gdrive here.

Somebody Sure As Hell Messed Up (Part 4)

(In which Music Meister, nee Dennis Prowell, and The Toyman, rarely known as Winslow Schott, have a revealing conversation over board games.)

"I like to know as much information as I can. It helps things run smoothly." said the Toyman.

Dennis took a deep breath in, then out. No theatrics this time. "Fine. You want the real story. Here it is.”

“...This was a team effort: I was showing her a night on the town. After that whole 2000 scare I just thought a day to celebrate the New Year was what she needed. What I said about breaking in was true. We were stealing ... miscellaneous goods when your bowl arrived. It wasn't until the building started to crumble apart when she pushed me into the hand though. So there it is. Are you happy?"

"Really? She actually pushed you? That's something I'd expect her to do to me, not you. You two were supposedly pretty chummy." Winslow leaned in.  "Goes to show you, she's a dangerous one."

"Well I would've expected Lyle to be more of the type to do such a thing. But I softened him up. I suppose I just didn't have enough time to get close to Darci. At least not to the point of being as chummy as you'd think." Dennis made a meek attempt to whistle to fill in the silence, but the mic on him kept making the pitch off key and weird. Definitely something he stopped a few seconds in. "I doubt she'll come over for some tea. You got no use keeping me around if that's the case."

"Oh she'll come. I've got my best man on it right now. And you'll be staying for a while. I can't help but be a little suspicious, you know? And we can keep each other company until our little reunion!" said Winslow, failing to hide the excitement in his voice.

"Suspicious? Me? Perish the thought."  Shit. You blew it, Prowell. Dennis bared a smile that was more than a little ingenuine. "So. We're going to 'keep each other company?'"

"Naturally! I haven't had a guest over in a very long time. Tell me, do you like board games?"

A very long time, huh? "Board games are fun." Dennis tried to match Winslow's energy. In truth, Dennis was much more fond of scrapbooking news articles about crime than he had been about board games when he was a child. The only board game he's truly interested in is D&D, but that was neither here nor there.

"I have quite a few, but be warned! I've had a lot of time to practice." One of the doors to the room slid open to reveal a tall shelf full of colorful boxes.

"Ah, well! It looks like you've got a lot of things to keep us occupied. Ha." God. I wish Hartley were here...

"How about Battleship? Or Chutes and Ladders?" Winslow hopped down off of his chair and went to the shelf to peruse the collection. "Or maybe Connect Four?"

Yeah... Hart's just the person I'd want to see right about now. "Now, Battleship's something I know haha!"

"Oh boy! Sounds good to me!" He grabbed the box from the shelf and took his seat again,  pulling the screens out of the box and sliding one down to Dennis. Winslow began setting up his side.

Dennis followed suit. "So you haven't had a friend over in a long time?"

"No, not since Peter. And I can't even remember the time before that. Mostly, it's just me and the friends I make myself. Uh, just say when you are ready."

He gave a thumbs-up in response. "G7. Merkel? Oh! He's been over at Sel's a couple of times. Very fond of Twister I've heard." Dennis then stopped for a moment. "Wait, then how did you meet Darci? Was it a henchgirl for hire gig gone to pot?"

"M-miss; J4" Toyman’s voice stammered as he placed a piece in his water. "You... you don't know do you? That's... kinda funny actually. You haven't noticed anything, well, peculiar about her, have you?"

"Hit. B2. No, nothing that would warrant suspicion. But that's coming from a Gotham resident. Maybe that sort of stuff flies past me." He stopped, just for a moment. "Then she's got something wrong with her, huh?"

"Oh no, she's perfect." He paused.  "Well, correction: she was a little bit more rebellious than I expected. Hit! J5."

"Miss. B3" Rebellious, he says. Rebellious. Sure you can call a student or criminal rebellious. But a lover? Not unless you got something wrong with your own methods... "Is that so?"

"Hmmm, Hit. You sunk my destroyer! J3?" said Toyman, considering his move. "You think you've got someone figured out, and they go and manage to turn your life topsy-turvy. I just don't know how she did it, but oh boy, did she."

"Hit. A1. You could say that about anybody though. Everybody's kinda got layers to them you know. Like tree rings. Or cake."

"Miss. J2. I suppose that's true, but she really isn't just anybody."

"Hit. A5. Then who is she?"

"She is mine." said Toyman, pointedly, before clearing his throat. “Ahem. Miss. H3."

... Noted. "I'll rephrase the question. What was she like to you? Miss. F6."

"At the start, she was my perfect doll. Then a switch was flipped, and she fled. Eventually, that Big Blue Bully got jealous when I tried to get her back, but we fled together. I thought it would be different, or rather back to the way things were, but she was just as manipulative as she was when she left. Hit. J1."

"Hit. The ship has sunk. F5." ... This bitch is lonely. If I connect the pieces together, then he's probably been wallowing in his misery ever since. "That sure sounds rough. I totally get it. Is there anything you've done for yourself since she left?"

"Oh, you know. Just a lot of work around here. Trying to stay busy. I started my blog, but that didn't really pan out...Miss. E7?"

"Hit. C9." Bingo. "Maybe you could benefit from getting out more. I mean more than just a blog. Get some friends with different perspectives. Live a little. You discover more about yourself that way."

"I don't know where to begin with something like that.” replied Toyman plainly. “It's not like someone like me can just go out and try to chat with random people. People would take one look at me and want to run. It might be different over in Gotham, but over here, they would never. Miss. F6."

"You started off with your blog. And that got Peter to talk to you. That was a good starting point.

 Maybe you could do the same thing. But you know. Without any alias or villain names. Then you wouldn't limit the people who share your niche interests to just rogues. Hit. C4"

"Miss, G7, And I don't think I can. I'm not much else but "The Toyman" anymore. I've devoted my entire life to get revenge on one man, and some alien takes him out before I got to try again. I'm not sure I am who I was anymore because I've been me for so very long."

"Hit. You sunk my ship. G1." Maybe that's why Darci ran off. Tch. "Then... Let's start off even smaller. Yeah. Bake the layers of your cake before you make the frosting! We'll just have to find some hobbies that click. Then we can go from there."

"Well, obviously I like toys. Uhhh, mechanical engineering? And movies.” He seemed curious, despite the mask. “Miss. C3"

"I'm sure there's plenty of other people out there who like movies and engineering too. Ever thought about joining a STEM group? Miss. F7."

"Hit. C9? There probably are, but what if they don't like me, or they find out who I am?"

"Hit. F8. If they're really your friends they wouldn't care, would they?" replied Dennis easily, although as his words settled in, he couldn’t help but wonder… I'm sure there's going to be someone to get me out of here. Hopefully not Darci… What if they've already forgotten about me? Or that they wanted me gone this whole time and they're celebrating my death as the minutes pass by? ...But that couldn't be the case. Almost everybody loves me!...Right?

"Hit. C10...I'm... not sure I want to talk about this anymore." murmured Toyman, presumably glancing away. "Do... do you like any movies?"

"Hit. F9." It's your funeral. "Oh, sure I like movies." Dennis smiled.

"Hehehe! Miss! C8? Do you have a favorite movie? O-or maybe a favorite genre?"

"Hit. E9, and… I only ever liked Quentin Tarantino flicks." he replied, with a blissful smile to accompany his lie. "I've always been enamored by the harsh reality of crime. It's just so intoxicating. Wouldn't you agree?"

"Miss. C7? Really? That's quite an interesting revelation about you, Mr. Prowell. I would have pegged you as just a musical fan, but that's what I get for assuming. I must admit it might not completely be my cup of tea, but I did enjoy Pulp Fiction."

"Hit. G9. Oh yeah! Crime's always been a big part of my life. My folks have always been a big inspiration for me when it comes to that."

"Miss. C6. Really? Your parents were criminals, then?"

"Hit. E5. Of course. Fine upstanding people they are. Looong before Big Blue came to town. Their old names were Songbird and Fireball. That ring any bells?"

"Miss. C6. They sound familiar, but I can't quite put my finger on it."

"You already played C6. Tch...They were part of an underground gang way back when. But they quit that sort of work before I came along. Never told me why though. Which is strange..."

"Oh, silly me. I meant to say C5. Hmmm... Where were they out of?"

"Hit. You sunk my ship. A8, and...The Intergang, I think. That place used to be big on recruiting metas back in the day. I know that for sure."

"They were INTERGANG? I don't blame them for leaving. Miss. D10."

"Yeah it had something to do with a mix up that led to members getting killed. Least that's what my Pop told me. But my kidnapping was when my folks were especially put off by the business. The first one. Miss. D1"

"'Mix-up?' I wouldn't be surprised if that's just what Mannheim said to cover his tuchus. I still wish I could have been the one to finally stop that bully. Miss. B10"

"Wait, you were after Manheim? Which one?"

"Bruno. That awful devil sent my father to prison and ruined my entire life."

"I was fucked over by Moxie Manheim! Damn old coot must be in his grave by now... Anyways! You know how there's an initiation to join?"

"Ha! Well, it's a small world after all! I think I heard something about it somewhere. Why?"

"Yeah, well... Moxie didn't really enjoy that Songbird and Fireball ditched the Intergang to start a family, so he decided to keep tabs on them. Their weaknesses and all that. Now, Moxie also had some new recruits lined up waiting to be official members." Dennis leaned in, conspiratorial.."He's got a big criminal brain as you know, so he thought it'd be real wise to make me a part of the initiation. Killing two birds with one stone, as they say."

"D-did they do it?" asked Toyman, on the edge of his seat.

"Of course they did it! Stole me away while my folks were vulnerable! Nothing much I could've done, figuring this was back in 1977." Dennis collected himself. "But they weren't having it! This was the last straw, Winslow!" He held up his index finger rather righteously. "And you know what happened?"

Winslow leaned closer in anticipation. "What?"

"They snuck in there and took me back! But not without a musical number first!" said Dennis proudly. Plain as day, he looked up to his parents: it showed in the glow of his smile.

"That must have been an absolute delight to see. So, you inherited your powers from a parent? Songbird, I presume? What could Fireball do?"

"She shoots a flare gun." he grinned. 

"Truly fascinating! Um, also, it's still your turn. B10. Was that the last they heard from Mannheim and company?"

"Miss. B10. Oh no. not at all. A bunch of failed attempts were made afterwards. And well, since Moxie's departure, Bruno was the guy looking out to see if they were any trouble. But now that Bruno's dead and Vito doesn't really care. There's some peace." Something, just then, just clicked into Dennis' mind. And oh how ironic it was. "Until now."

"Miss. B5.” sighed Toyman. "If you are referring to me, please don't be so dramatic. I mean you no harm, unless you mean it to me. I only want a little incentive for Darci to come here. And if she pushed you into my robot's clutches like you said, perhaps her final capture will be something you can relish as well."

"Miss, B5...Hmmmm.” thought Dennis, smiling a bit. "Well... I just find it hilarious that out of all the villains who I fall into the clutches of, it had to be the one that happens to despise the Manheims the most." He started fidgeting with a red piece in his hand. "Call it a hunch, but this seems a lot like destiny."

"It was quite the coincidence! As I said earlier, it's a small world. I might not say destiny, but who knows? Miss, D5?"

"Miss. E2. Well, nothing's impossible, kid."

"Miss. I8...Perhaps." Winslow fell silent, awkward.

"Miss. H1...For someone called the Toyman, you're not much of an optimist are you?"

"Miss. H8. For someone named Music Meister, you're not much of a musical film fan."

"It's not my fault that musicals are better on the stage." He smirked. “Miss. J6. Much more of an experience, you know? To go out and see something like that live and in the present."

"Miss. I9. I... see your point. But you're right, optimism isn't my strong suit anymore..."

"Anymore? Then that means there was a point in time where you were an optimist!" There's still hope!

"When I was a kid, sure. But after my father was sent away, well, it hasn't been very easy."

"Have you been to therapy for that?"

"No, my foster families never wanted to pay for something like that."

"But your foster families don't control you anymore, you're a free man! If you're able to afford it, at least give it a try."

Winslow buries his masked head into his hands. "But can a wanted man like myself just waltz into some therapist's office without a dozen people calling the police on him?"

"People wouldn't recognize you without...the mask, would they?" asked Dennis, curious.

He looks up with a shrug. "I'm 4' 10", and have a rather distinct voice. They might not know my face, but they still might know me. If I'm lucky, then everything would be fine, but if I'm not, then I might be in a lot of trouble.”

"Jeez, Metropolis has got some shit health care, doesn't it? If that's what's keeping you from healing... Hmm." Dennis tried to come up with an appropriate counter argument.

“I9. Being a supervillain isn't all it's cracked up to be."

"...But being an actor is! I've got it! And it's brilliant! Maybe we can't do much about your height, but you can do something about your voice and movement!...Oh. Sorry. Miss. H3."

"C-come again?" Toyman was genuinely surprised. "I don't... I'm not really... um...Miss. G2."

"Yeah, okay. You'd have to practice speaking from your diaphragm, but that's gonna be a sinch cause you got a performer around!" Dennis pondered. "Maybe change the names a bit for this new persona... That'd work so you wouldn't have to lie in therapy per se. We all know that goes nowhere."

Dennis made a square with his index fingers and thumbs to frame Winslow.

"I can totally see your persona now Winn! Hit! I10!"

"I'm not... sure... what you're talking about? I.....?" flustered the Toyman before sighing. "Miss. F2."

"You seem so deadset on people hating you, right?  And the inability to socialize and get proper therapy is what's holding you back from being a healthy and paranoid free individual, right? 

So, we just need to make you a persona so people won't know you're the Toyman! So people won't ‘hate’ you! It's a genius plan! I swear!" smiles Dennis, putting heavy finger quotes on the word hate, as  he genuinely didn't believe that everyone everyone hates him. “Oh! Hit! F10."

"I don't think... Let me just say: I don't want to be anyone else. I am me, no matter how awful my life has been, I can't really change it. If I try to make a new me, that can only take me so far before I just go back to being me. I can't make people stop disliking or fearing me. But I have been trying to change the way I go about what I do. I wanted to stop Mannheim from ruining any more families' lives, and I want to help make sure no more families are robbed of their lives because of some self-centered sneak!" Winslow’s voice slowly rose to a shriek, before he finally settles back down into his chair with another sigh. "Miss. H2."

After a brief pause, Dennis gently pat Winslow in the shoulder. "You're gonna lose your voice if you keep yelling like that." sighed Dennis kindly. "I get that you're trying to be noble and save families and whatnot, but if you keep going about this like a self-deprecating martyr, then soon there won't be much left of you to save any families. Hit. I4."

He shrinks away from the first pat, but eases on the following. "...Yeah, I suppose. But at least I did help, right? Miss. I2."

"Yeah. Yeah you did. Hit. H2."

There was a pause as Winslow looked down at the table. Without looking up, he muttered “Hit. E2...and...thanks."

There's the ticket. Actually, this time… "No! Noo! It's just what friends do." A warm, glowing smile swept across Dennis’ face. "If you really think people won't like you, then I won't push it anymore. But I like you. I like your motives too. So don't stress about it that much."

"Y-you like me? I'm your friend?"  said Winslow, genuinely taken aback.

"Of course!" Dennis said, minimizing the situation.

"I... I've always wanted a... a real friend..."

"If you wanted a friend, then why didn't you just ask?" Dennis gave Winslow that same warm glowing smile as he stood up.

Winslow sat still for a couple seconds before his emotions did finally catch up to him. He sobbed slightly but collected himself quickly. "Thank you so much!" he said, much happier than he'd sounded before. "So...E2?"

25. How many blankets do you sleep with:  One, it's a normal comforter, I get so freaking hot when I sleep it usually is on the floor when I wake up (along with the sheets and all the pillows because I am a very violent sleeper)

26. Dream job: So kind of a lame answer, I kind of have my dream job? I always wanted to be a veterinarian and thats what I am doing. BUT I want to be a mixed animal veterinarian (horses, dogs and cats), I want to own my own practice and I want to work in the small town I grew up in and give back to the people who gave me so much growing up and that hasn't happened yet.

27. Dream trip: I want to travel in Europe, I would love to travel in Italy and England and all over and I really really want to go to Greece.

28. Favorite Food: By itself: Panko breaded chicken. As a meal: Garlic rubbed Steak with rosemary tattooed potatoes and asparagus

It takes up increasing amounts of his time but he loves it – the bartenders, the customers, even line-dance nights. Summary:  The Avatar fusion fic in which recently-paralyzed Marine Jensen Ackles goes to the distant moon of Pandora, meets the love of his life Jared, and discovers everything that's truly important to him. https://archiveofourown.org/works/222196/chapters/335644 I barely remember the plot of this movie I saw once in 2009 when it came out, so reading this was absolutely tremendous, especially because it was just mildly familiar, with really just the incredible visuals from the film my most distinct memories, all padding the fantastic writing and nuanced romance that Avatar truly failed to convey. I think there was an empowering alteration in the plot where it turned out to be Jared (or the girl Navi in the movie) who is encouraged to embrace prophecy and his role that the film didn't have and I ADORED the way it went down in this story. It wasn't predictable, and the sign Jared interpreted was a sign to find a love who believed in him. The world-building was shocking, bc I'd already seen the movie and I hadn't been completely sold on the world of Pandora but holy shit, I am now. The narrative structure can be just so much more effective in describing soul-deep peace and unity versus visual storytelling. Ratherastory was an artist, or perhaps a translator to a reader like me, sharing exactly how magical this universe was in a way I could better understand (she made it so I could see! get it?! haaa). I’ve added this fic to my “SPN... IN SPACE!” reclist 🚀🤩

I hope everybody is doing okay. Note my zombiefic reading started around when the states went “oh shitpickles” here and we all went on lockdown, hah. In these trying times with buzzwords like ‘social distancing’ I also really recommend the books (real books! not fic, haha) in Mira Grant’s Newsflesh series. It’s a zombie political thriller with a deep sibling bond (🤭) that’s vital to the tremendous plot & characters 🧟‍♀️👍🥰️ But I digress! Onto the fic! Winchester Christmas by Sam_Eller. PG-13, Gen, 11k words. Summary: Sam and Dean struggle through another difficult holiday, both trying to make the other happy in every way they are able. https://archiveofourown.org/works/21968959 Lovely soft & pure hurt/comfort for Sam & Dean as kids. Fever+chill cuddles & forehead kissies yesssssss. This fic’s been added to my winter holidays fic reclist Scary Monsters by annie46 NC-17, Jensen/Jared, 4k. Summary: He wonders, sometimes, at the irony of it all. Just overall a very solid story for the zombies and the cuddles (if you don’t like reading on LJ, craft an epub with squeebook.net or throw me a follow&ask for my copy 👍. Same deal with the fic below) In A World So Wrong(Hold On) by malbrynn, R, Jensen/Jared, 27k. Summary:  Six years ago, a viral outbreak spread across the United States, turning people into zombie-like Ghouls--violent creatures that spread across the country, killing and eating their victims. Many of the unfortunate survivors were turned themselves. Now, with real safety only found inside the Walled cities, those on the outside are left to fend for themselves. When an infected Jared turns up on the doorstep of the Temple refuge, Jensen doesn't know what to think. The existence of Jared--a Ghoul that has somehow retained his humanity--is impossible, but it's only the first and least of the questions that he brings with him. Now Jensen has the government breaking down the door, and he must quickly find a balance between what he wants and what he'll allow himself to have. https://malbryn.livejournal.com/6391.html I love anything that depicts Jared as both a sweetheart and a vicious monster and this story 100% had that. Rated NC-17, Sam/Dean, 112k. Summary:  Crossover with Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern. Snooping around in his father’s storage locker, Sam touches something he shouldn’t and gets sucked into a world where dragonriders must protect their world from a continuous threat of threadfall. Dean follows and finds Sam has lost his memories. Until they get out of this mess, they have to ‘make like the natives.’ https://virtualpersonal.livejournal.com/206751.html This story was my gateway fic to dragon AUs and it’s been ah👏ma👏zing👏 reading and exploring this one and all the others! While it’s a crossover with Anne McCaffrey’s Pern universe, I had no idea and rolled with it anyway, so you definitely don’t need to have read the McCaffrey’s series to understand this story (but it’s a great in that it gives you the gist of what other Pern x SPN fics incorporate in their crossovers as well). Love the amnesia trope deftly used here to kinda excuse/explain how the wincest unfolds, haha.

Dean knows where he stands on the issue, but how Sam feels about it, he’s not so sure. https://archiveofourown.org/works/21997777 Really awesome post-apocalyptic zombie fic world-build, soft yet powerful Sammy, bamf!Dean, adorable+momentous first time, Sam gets a puppy.
