i'm not sure what the song is called, but "show the way" from hadestown just breaks my heart. i hadn't listened to the obc before i saw the show so i didn't know half the songs that aren't on 2017 nytw, and. learning during the show that orpheus -- at the moment his naivety breaks down -- carries the souls of not only eurydice, but also all of the workers in hadestown, who all just remembered who they are. show the way so we can see, show the way the world could be. <- show us the physical route out, to the guy who walked and sang his whole way here. show us with your voice and your leadership how beautiful the world could be, right after you've just learned that hades owns eurydice's soul and that everyone forgets who they are down here and that the world can be a hopeless and awful place, all weighing on him at once and he learns it suddenly and far too late. if he can do it so can she, if she can do it so can we. <- turning this into a CHAIN of people all holding onto one another is INSANE anaïs mitchell is a genius. they're not all following orpheus -- they just met him! eurydice is the one with trust in him! but they know eurydice as one of them. and they trust HER faith in him. we will follow her if she follows him. worker solidarity through and through.

thinking about the touring cast of hadestown again,,,, if anyone has a bootleg PLEASE let me know J Antonio Rodriguez and Amaya Braganza and Will Mann and Lana Gordon and Matthew Patrick Quinn I miss u so much……..

So uhh. Things happened in act 2

They got up to How along without a hitch, and then there was an announcement

“Ladies and gentlemen, we’re going to take a brief pause in the show- we’ll give you an update shortly.”

And five minutes later there was another one: “J. Antonio Rodriguez will be playing the role of Orpheus.”

SO YEAH

No idea what happened, I’ll try to figure it out

I guess we got 2 Orphei for the price of one?

And J. Antonio Rodriguez was good! Really, really good! I think it even could be argued that he was the stronger singer of the two

But Chibueze was so sweet and we’d been with him for so long that it was hard to fall in love with the new guy

Other than that everything was FANTASTIC

Persephone held the crack in the wall note for what felt like an hour and the entire audience screamed

And Hades had such a transformation it was so sweet!!! He sort of went from “sleazy 1930s politician” to “awkward wifeguy” and back again a bunch of times

The Lovers’ Desire dance was one of the cutest things I’ve ever seen in my life! I like audibly gasped when Hades whipped out that flower, I had no idea that was gonna happen

The fates!!! I forgot to mention them earlier but they were so sassy, I loved them so much

Also when Hermes referred to the “dog” in wait for me 2 he gestured to them which makes me think they also represent cerberus? Idk just a thought

And Hermes literally had a voice like a trombone. Like it was scary accurate

But Eurydice was the standout performance, to me at least! You could tell she and Orpheus had so much chemistry (which is another reason the new guy was such a hard sell), but she was also completely heartbreaking on her own

I think she was actually crying during Flowers, and the whole show she couldn’t keep her hands off of him

She had a super cute lil thing with one of the workers, they hugged a couple times and she was one of the first ones behind her during Doubt Comes In

Uhh I can’t really think of much else

WAIT FOR ME!!!!! Oh my god both wait for mes were insane, Hannah Whitley has an unbelievable belt and Chibueze gave it his absolute ALL and the LIGHTS!!!!!! The lights omg shout out to the Hadestown lighting crew I love y’all so much

So yeah that was my Hadestown experience! I could write essays about it but this was everything I could think of

SOPH OMG!!! it’s so exciting that you’re going to see hadestown aaaa,, I hope everything goes well! & if you feel like it pls go ahead and answer this ask with a review or any cool things about this production, I’d be very interested in hearing how it was :))

Ok so act 1 is finished and here are my thoughts:

CHIBUEZE IHUOMA IS THE CUTEST THING I HAVE EVER SEEN OH MY STARS. His accent really came through when he sang, and he was so heartbroken when Eurydice left it was so sad and so sweet and he’s thee best

Speaking of Eurydice, Hannah Whitley’s voice blew me away! She was so vulnerable with Orpheus and I guess she was friends with the workers too, it’s a side of her you don’t see in other productions and it was so cool

And they were SO in love!!!! She was always touching him in some way, and one of the ways they signifies that he was distracted by his song was that he didn’t respond to her hand on his back :(

Hermes didn’t take much of an active role in the story, but he’s such a compelling storyTELLER that it really didn’t matter! He did a bunch of stuff different from Andre de Shields but he was so good anyway

Persephone was very tired, very sweet with Orpheus and Eurydice, and VERY drunk most of the time. She was also sweet with Hades, and everyone seemed to love her. Wine aunt vibes were off the charts

Hades had a higher voice than I was expecting! He played him like a sleazy politician more than a failing husband, giving a big speech to the workers, flirting with Eurydice and ignoring Seph when she kissed him on the cheek :(

The WORKERS!!!! Oh my god they were amazing they had so much ENERGY and so much individual character omg

Act 2 is staring so im gonna go
