Having a TikTok account and posting about mayhem on it has to be one of the most brain dulling, headache inducing, mentally exhausting things on this planet

I can't count how many times I've been in debates with people on this godforsaken app

doing EVERYONE'S corpse paint

which mean yours looks like shit because you run out of time

hellhammer REFUSES to call you your real name

you’ve been deemed “the mistress of darkness” by him

euronymous is obsessed with his guitar tone.

after every show, you’ll inevitably hear him rambling about how your tone didn’t capture “the essence of darkness” or how “the true spirit of black metal was missing.”

you just nod

at one point, the band got the idea that you should take family photos in full mayhem gear.

of course, no one is actually serious about it, but there you all are, awkwardly posing with your instruments and corpse paint, trying to look “normal”

necrobutcher insists on standing in the back because he thinks he looks too tall

he doesn’t 

while hellhammer is crouched down because he thinks it’ll make him look more “menacing.”

euronymous spends five minutes perfecting his “dark” face and then complains that no one else is serious enough.

and pelle just stands there like a statue completely silent

the final photo ends up being the most awkward looking thing ever

after. every. show.

no one talks about how great the show was

instead, you all argue over who had the best performance or who messed up the most. 

“i think pelle was the worst tonight. did you hear that voice crack he had”

“it wasn’t THAT bad. at least not compared to that GOD AWFUL solo you did”

the first time you showed up in an outfit with a color other than black, they actually went insane

euronymous asked if you’d gone soft and pleaded with you to not wear it on stage

necrobutcher looked like you’d committed a cardinal sin.

so the next week, after not performing in the outfit deemed “too soft”

you turned up for practice wearing a black hoodie, you noticed that, suddenly, they all started dressing in slightly more colorful clothes, too.

hellhammer, of course, continued to wear his “i’m too mysterious for fashion” look.

every time you get ready for a show, the band has some weird pre-performance routine

euronymous will start talking about the setlist like it's a sacred ritual

hellhammer will stretch out for about 20 minutes while dramatically cracking his neck

necrobutcher will randomly start muttering dark phrases under his breath like he’s schizophrenic.

and pelle will sniff his dead bird

meanwhile, you’re just trying to get your guitar tuned.

the first time you saw them do all of this, you thought, “is this a band or a cult?” 

it turns out, it’s a bit of both. you’ve learned to just roll with it.

Controversial opinion but I think the current day Mayhem is ok, they don't really deserve how much people shit on them. But it's definitely shit that they almost always have to do some tribute to Pelle/Euro. It feels like they're holding onto history to remain relevant, and it would be better if they just leaned into what they've got going on currently instead of milking past mayhems image dry
