Antisemitism: the game and bad allyship
Ok, so this has been rattling around my brain for a while and I think I should get it out. Earlier in this week I posted a video to my tiktok (I know the general consensus here is to hate it, and whilst it is incredibly shitty, and MASSIVELY capitalistic I've built up a decent following and getting regular interactions from people gives me serotonin, which is in short supply in my life) asking people not to buy/play the antisemitic wizard game. Now as I said in the video itself, I'm not trans, nor am I a streamer, nor do I have plans to become one, nor do I plan to have anything to do with this mediocre piece of bigotry. BUT, I've still been criticised for taking a stance.
Someone has told me that I:
"should let people play the game and get on with your life! If you have no plans to play stop talking about it."
Oh I'm sorry, does my effort to support people I care about offend you? Do you find the fact I'm actually willing to take and stance and ask other people to do the same over an issue which doesn't affect me (or them) directly bother you? Should I just roll over and wait for the fascists to come for me?
I'm trying to be an actual ally, and use my limited platform to raise awareness of a serious problem, rather than making a feeble excuse to justify actions which are going to be interpreted as support for these veiws.

Officially entering my Sirius Black Phase 🪄
Disclaimer: I DO NOT agree with J. K. Rowling's views on about anything and am angry at and disgusted by her behaviour. Still, I think there are lots of amazing people in the Harry Potter fandom and what those people have made of it is worth keeping alive. This is a safe space for trans people. J. K. Rowling lost it the moment she started abusing her power as the writer of Harry Potter to spread her hateful ideologies. [And please free to discuss the matter, should you feel I am in the wrong or just like to keep the conversation alive]

"let people enjoy things" is about like. danganronpa or hannibal or something else like that. not the antisemetic wizard game that's going to be funding anti-trans campaigns in the uk.

As much as i hate JKR i will not tolerate any slander or hatred aimed towards the kids that get casted in the Harry Potter reboot.
If they get accurate aged kids then they’re gonna be between 10-12/13 years old to represent year 7’s (11-12.) Chances are they’re child actors aiming for a big break which shouldn’t be biased on who they author of the books are or they are being pushed by their parents which is something that happens more often than not.
I refuse. point blank refuse to fuckin ‘cancel’ any kids casted. They are children and they deserve a chance.
I won’t be watching it. But i will not obliterate a child’s chances to succeed based on a woman’s shitty view of human beings

what did jk Rowling say that was transphobic
Hey anon! Wow that is-- a big question. She's said so much it's hard to really pinpoint which ones are the most helpful reads/watches for you. First and foremost, a lot of her earlier comments/likes on Trans people were considered as "Middle Aged Moments" for liking tweets that were very transphobic, when time and evidence has proven otherwise. Here's an article by Pink News, a leader in LGBTQ+ news regarding that:
Then there was the "supporting Maya" incident that happened back when where Maya basically stated that Trans women were not women, and JKR supported her in that.
Tumblr media
FYI: "Maya" was not forced out of her job, her contract just wasn’t renewed. Then there was this:
Tumblr media
And then the really famous essay she wrote:
If you don't want to read the essay, or have read it and need some help understanding the transphobia of it, these were always recommended to me as good watches and I agree: This is a very long video but I HIGHLY recommend watching the whole thing because these folks do a great job of breaking things down in a very academic way.
youtube
From the same folks is another video:
youtube
She then wrote a book under a different name in order to avoid transphobic accusations (The Ink Black Heart) which she used the pen name Robert Galbraith. For more info on that feel free to visit this NPR article (also listed below). Some other helpful links from major sites with lots of info:
https://www.npr.org/2022/08/31/1120299781/jk-rowling-new-book-the-ink-black-heart
https://www.vox.com/culture/23622610/jk-rowling-transphobic-statements-timeline-history-controversy
Add to that, she's broken ties and talked badly about Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint because they are supporters of trans people. This article by the Guardian has GREAT links to her individual tweets with supporting evidence. This year especially, as well, she decided to double down a bit: Here's some information regarding her Holocaust Denialism around Trans People from earlier this year:
Honestly I could go on and on, she's been very unkind to trans people, non binary people, and anyone who supports them. I realize that's a lot anon, but hopefully that gives you plenty of resources to check into regarding your question! I'm by far not an expert on the subject, and several of these resources came from friends who are more well versed on the subject. But I hope that gets you started! Have a lovely day and thanks for the ask! And as a side note to all my Trans Siblings out there, love you dearies, here to support you however. Trans Men are Men, Trans Women are Women, and Non-Binary people are valid. You're wonderful and valid, and I love ya.

I had a lot of things on my Olympics bingo card, but I have to say “J K Rowling makes an enemy of all of Taiwan after calling their athlete - a cis woman - a man” wasn’t it
Like, this woman is clinically insane at this point.
She trusts the word of an institution KNOWN for its ties to Russian crime over actual legitimate organisations., because said organisation said something about chromosomes (which is a word that, as we all know, activates TERFs like a goddamn sleeper code) after throwing a pissy fit about Imane beating their athlete
She isn’t even pretending to be “for women” at this point
Also, another highlight - apparently having a vagina isn’t enough to make you a woman, after she spent years arguing that that was exactly what made you a woman

⚖️ Elon Musk and J.K. Rowling have been named in the cyberbullying lawsuit filed by Olympic champion Imane Khelif.
Paris2024
My previous post about the topic: [X]
Imane Khelif spoke against cyberbullism: [X]
Tumblr media
I don't know if Khelif would win this lawsuit, but the message is important: being super rich doesn't allow you to harass people, because they don't meet your ideas about what a woman or a man should look. Gender stereotypes and conventional beauty standards are still damaging people and billionaires should be liable for the massive bullying they created due to their visibility on social media.
Imane Khelif's father didn't approve her passion for boxing, because he thought that boxe wasn't a "thing for girls". And now, she has been attacked for "not being feminine enough". The massive hate and bullying she receives are the same a lot of LGBTQ+ kids experience during their life. I know that a lot of cis/het boys and girls struggle with the judgemental attitude bigots have to their appearance or life choices, but this kind of obsession for gender stereotypes is deeply linked with omophobia and transphobia.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What annoys me the most about all of this is that trans and non-binary people have been subjected to this same treatment for years. The minute it happens to a cis person, everyone realizes how bad it is. I'm glad Imane Khelif is fighting back, but no one deserves this.
Tumblr media
Another wonderful woman that deserves to be mentioned here is the Chinese boxer Lin Yu-ting, another athlete who ended up in the same defamatory campaign of Imane Khelif. Lin Yu-ting's story went viral after she won her silver medal. Lin Yu-ting began boxing as a child to protect her mother from her father's abuse. She fought, as Khelif did, from a young age, always with other women, without any problems until the IBA issue. Through ups and downs, Lin Yu-ting never gave up, until she achieved this well-deserved Olympic medal.
Yes. Not only Elon Musk and J. K. Rowling (and other far-right politicians) started a hate campaign against two cisgender non-white women, but also they targeted two women who fought against domestic violence, abuse and gender stereotypes from a very young age!
Update 21 August 2024: J.K. Rowling is in the Find Out phase.
J.K. Rowling has deleted 27 tweets since being named in a lawsuit brought by Olympic Women’s Boxing Gold Medalist Imane Khelif. Rowling has also not tweeted in 13 days.

Separating the art from the artist: change my mind
Ok, so with the ongoing response to me trying to be a good ally/generally decent person over the antisemitic wizard game I've realised that there's a trend with people supporting it. Insomuch as whilst they're trying to defend their own position and or justify their own actions, I'm not seeing any of them trying to convince other people of their argument.
So, since a lot of JKR's supporters keep going on about the "need" to separate the art from the artist, here's your chance to do just that. Why should I be interested/invested in her work? Why should I buy *this* game in particular? What makes her work so compelling? Here's your chance to convince people your continuing support of JKR isn't just because of your willingness to overlook her transphobia.
I'm a millennial and like a lot of you grew up with the franchise, but never got invested in it. I've got a similar feeling of nostalgia to you, but why should I return to this franchise, or invest myself in her work instead of any of the other franchises that dominated my adolescence?

Yo, so, are we like "uncanceling" J.K. Rowling now???
Like, as far as I'm aware, she's still a fucking TERF but I've seen a few recent articles talking about how she's being "uncancelled" (because apparently being called out for being a TERF is "canceling" someone... WTF)
Does anyone else have any thoughts on this???
Edit: I've been informed J. K. Rowling is NOT being "uncancelled," The media is just trying to make it SEEM like she's being "uncancelled"
Good, fuck Rowling

Wow
J. K. Rowling's response to the Trump campaign and his successful re-election is...wow. She really does not give a fuck as long as she can point to trans people as the number one problem in the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Y'all Rowling devotee, self-martyred "TERFS" really don't give a shit about women, do you? That's the worst part—using women as a fucking shield for your abuse toward trans people. You think you'll be safe because you're one of the good ones? As long as YOU feel safe, fuck everyone else, right?
Hope you U.S.—based cowards enjoy losing your reproductive rights because you couldn't stand sharing a world with trans people. Better hope you can get to a state with enough legislation to protect you. Oh, wait! Those are trans refuge states, so you probably won't feel safe there. Never mind! Best of luck on your own!

The thing about Death of the Author is that it was put forward by Barthes as a fresh perspective on literary criticism focusing on elements of the text itself, instead of trying to relate it back to the author's opinions and the rest of their body of work, which had been the going trend in the literary criticism at that time. It was written by a literary academic for other literary academics to use in their academic work - it was never meant to have any practical purpose.
The publishing industry is not affected by Death of the Author. As long as you continue to engage with Harry Potter online, J.K Rowling will make money. Publishers and producers look at social media stats to market, Harry Potter still having an active fandom is why Rowling continues to get book/movie deals. J.K Rowling benefiting financially actively harms trans people in the UK and your believing in Death of the Author does nothing except make you feel better.
