i also say this a lot about the nwp but makoto's plan basically erases izuru from existence, which means his whole life was nothing but endless suffering until he was effectively killed off for the sake of someone he used to be that everyone unanimously agrees is better than him remaining around. like, it's just an extra cruel twist of the knife that even the people that want to HELP the remnants see him as something that can't be saved or helped. something that shouldnt have existed in the first place, and it's GOOD that he won't exist, never mind that he's a real person too
(ALSO wrt the sensations of fear and trauma they couldnt make sense of.... i wonder if THAT'S why they had to reset the nwp over and over and over again?)
I'm thinking about that one post that went "Amnesia but you're haunted by your scars" post, talking about how wiping someone's memory in fiction doesn't completely erase the trauma they went through, and I just immediately look to DR2's cast and go "... Yeah."
I think Makoto was well meaning in wanting to wipe their memories of being remnants and putting them in an island paradise, but like. That's not therapy. That's not healing. That's only covering the scars on their hearts with an ill-fitted bandaid.
Even without the KG for that game, I think the Remnants would have like, sensations of fear they can't explain, sensations of trauma they can't address.
I don't think it's cruel to want to erase someone's painful memories... but I don't think that's a solution, either.
#like. even the supposed heroes are complicit in his dehumanization#this is a plot point in dangan at sea also#dangan#izuzu#danganposting

@iceablaze can't keep hiding forever.
The rain had finally stopped, and the long-awaited sun peeked out from its hiding place among the grey clouds. Wherever it shined, the shadow retreated, slithering back to the far corners and leaving Izuku with a better view of the streets.
When emerald eyes first landed upon the familiar figure, they widened in shock. He blinked twice, hard, just to check if it was but a trick of his mind.
For the first time in days, fate proved to be kind.
Aided by black whip, Izuku swung right into the person, allowing his body to slam against the other hard enough to take them both to the ground.
The first thing he did was to give the other a frantic once over, eyes rapidly checking for bruises, wounds, and other injuries. Fury only bubbled to the surface when no obvious concerns were found, and he grabbed his former classmate by the collar.
"Where were you?" He demanded, grip tightening. "Why haven't you called? We were so worried, you have no idea-" Breathe. "We thought you got kidnapped. People were searching everywhere for you. Your family was waiting for some sort of ransom demand and when none came, they...we..." All thought you were dead. Getting tortured somewhere. Turned into a nomu.
Nobody ever said it, but the possibilities kept many up at night. "I am calling your dad." Izuku clenched his jaw and forced himself to remain calm, scrambling in his pocket for his phone.

mine's izuru and its that in sdr2's final chapter, junko says that "all [she] did was break his spirit"
which means he had a spirit to be broken
dr3 kind of dropped the ball on that; he remained static the whole time
i wonder what he was like, when he was spirited. what his hopes for the future were. if he even had any at all. was he subserviant to hope's peak? defiant? content? unhappy? did he like anything? dislike anything?
i think about it a lot.
everyone whats your favorite fun fact about your blorbo
#i also think about how he's so dehumanized that even the narrative itself sees him as an obstacle for others to overcome#rather than a character all on his own#with some hints here and there to the contrary#or maybe im wrong bc the bulk of his appearances r in dr3 and despair arc at that#future arc is Okay. despair arc is Bad and Not Good#it reads like an abridged series or a real time fandub#or one of those gag spinoffs of succesful manga#(think bnha vs bnha smash or durarara vs minidura)#i was so excited to see more izuru man......#danganposting#also my own little izuru thought: i think he likes mice#theyre often used in lab testing#and people think of them as pests first and pets second if ever#i think he'd have a fondness for them#whatever fondness looks like for him#izuzu#also#nagi wagi#bc god i love that fact abt him too its so 🥺🥺

"Y-Yeah. He's a senior, so he's above me and the other guys, too." Shuichi couldn't blame Yuma for being so shocked. He highly expected to deal with some kind of jokester or delinquent. So finding Izuru, instead, was very surprising. As he lowers his flashlight so that it's not beaming in the other's face anymore, he responds: "Well if it was during school hours, you wouldn't be wrong, but the school is closed is right now! While I understand you want peace and privacy, if a staff member or a security guard had caught you roaming around this time of night, I'm sure you'd get in trouble..."
At Yuma's question, he just gives a sheepish laugh. He honestly could've give him a straight answer even if he wanted to. Shuichi was more than used to the pure insanity, that is Hope's Peak Academy... "?" He tilts his head at that, that he'll remember Yuma. Although he's pretty sure Yuma will probably never want to come back to this school, again...
"W-Well, that's-!! We were only "causing misconduct" to lure you out!! Otherwise, Y-Yes; I normally wouldn't have been so disruptive, neither would Yuma. Yes, we were hoping to succeed in bringing you to us, since we didn't want to risk spending hours here, blindly looking..."
But then Izuru says... they were mistaken? That he is not the one that were looking for...? "........." The cogs in his brain delay a couple of seconds, as he takes everything in. ".....What. Are you.......serious.....?"
Not a literal question, moreso rhetorical. He knows Izuru was telling the truth. But that just made all this so much more confusing; if it wasn't him, then who is...? "Y...Yes, you often drop him off to me. But if Kaito is the only one you ever saw at this time of night was Kaito, and you've never saw Yuma's brother, nor even know where he lives.. th-then yeah, it would be impossible for you to be the 'demon' in question we're looking for. Especially if you have no reason to ever want to scare anyone... b-but then, that means there's another person who fits that description? A description so mind-boggingly specific, yet we got the wrong one?! Who else could possibly be it, then!?"
This is all felt like one really bad joke. He knows he probably shouldn't had expected it to be that easy, but he was for certain that Izuru was their guy. Yet he wasn't... does that mean, all that ruckus they caused, them braving their way towards this school at this hour; was it all for nothing? He thinks he would really lose his mind if so... "H-Hahaha... do you hear this, Yuma. Who we thought was our target... was actually not the demon in question! Th-This is so ridiculous, I have to laugh. Hah hah hah.....haaaaaaagh......" He lowers his head while giving that dry laugh. Just as he feared; this is probably going to be a long night...
"....I see. Then.., I apologize for wrongfully accusing you. A-And for all the noise we caused... I still can't believe this: I guess our pursuit of the right demon still goes on, Yuma. But... something now bothers me. Izuru-senpai, you say you walk these corridors often, but have only encountered Kaito. But our real suspect, has been seen around these hallways by Usami and the others... I know our school is huge, but not once, you two have encountered each other? Assuming this one is a prankster, I'm shocked they haven't tried "scaring" you...."
Yuma stops when Shuichi does, the smaller boy looking up at him in shock. Did he actually recognize who they were talking to...? He gives a soft gasp as he sees his senpai continue forward, surprised at just how bold he is being and quickly moves to so he can walk behind him again.
He tenses when he sees Shuichi suddenly use his flashlight to illuminate the 'red-eyed demon', not quite sure what he was expecting, but to hear he's actually a student makes Yuma's jaw drop!
"What in the world?! U-upperclassman?! That's your senpai, Shuichi?! S-seriously?!" Yuma turns back towards Izuru who has yet to move outside of mildly squinting from the flashlights pointed at him.
"I'm a student here, am I not? I am allowed to freely roam these hallways just as much as you do. There is too much noise during the day, but after dark I can walk without a single soul gawking at me." Izuru glances between the two detectives, observing Shuichi's flabbergasted expression before looking at Yuma who looks like a deer caught in headlights.
"J-just what sort of school do you go to, Senpai...?" Yuma isn't sure he necessarily wants an answer, the poor boy already certain that Hope's Peak Academy is anything but normal.
"Yuma Kokohead... I'll be sure to remember him," Yuma doesn't seem to happy about that, the boy pursing his lips as he nervously fidgets with the hem of his outfit, "As for you, I was wondering why you were here with another person. While I can't speak about your subordinate, it's not in your nature to cause misconduct, Ultimate Detective. Although now I see why you both decided to cause a ruckus. It certainly caught my attention."
"However, I must inform you that you are mistaken. I walk these empty corridors often, but the only person who I have ever had any contact with so late at night is the Ultimate Astronaut. Of course you know the result of our brief meetings; he reacts worse than the two of you did and either runs off or manages to knock himself out. But I digress. I do not, nor have I ever, had any interest in scaring anyone, let alone someone whose brother I likely have not met before. I don't even know where his brother lives. Despite your efforts, the suspect you have cornered is innocent."
#YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT!!!!#HE IS THE EMBODIMENT OF ' >:D ' !!!!!!!!!!!! AFTER ALLLLL!!!!#TRULY INDEED!! DIS WHY HE GOTTA BE 🌯'D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#❌🏫❌!!!!!!!! SAYS THE KOKONUT!!! This is part 3 of my on going fanfiction Shades Of Red And Blue.
The Hero And The Villain’s Wound:
It had been two weeks since the incident at the jewelry store. Two weeks since Toga had escaped with Twice, leaving Izuku standing there, confused and conflicted. Despite his best efforts, the memory of her bright smile and playful words had lingered in his mind far longer than they should have. And it wasn’t just him—Toga, too, found herself thinking of the green-haired hero far more than she liked to admit.
But now, they both had more pressing matters at hand. Izuku had a mission—a critical one. The heroes were preparing to infiltrate the Shie Hassaikai’s hideout to rescue Eri, and he couldn’t afford to be distracted. And yet, the moment he heard from Sir Nighteye, that the League of Villains had somehow gotten involved in the Hassaikai’s affairs, his heart skipped a beat. A single thought crossed his mind: **Toga.**
He clenched his fists, frustrated with himself. *No. I can’t let this distract me.* He took a deep breath, forcing the thoughts of her to the back of his mind as he focused on the mission. He was here to save Eri—that was all that mattered.
**Location:** Shie Hassaikai headquarters
As Izuku, Mirio, and the rest of the heroes fought their way through the maze-like halls of the Shie Hassaikai headquarters, they encountered heavy resistance. Overhaul’s men seemed to come from every direction, but Izuku and his comrades pressed on, determined to find Eri. But then, in the middle of the chaos, Izuku was separated from the group.
He found himself in a dimly lit storage room filled with old medical supplies and equipment. The sounds of battle faded slightly as he entered, leaving an eerie silence in its wake. Izuku’s heart pounded in his chest as he scanned the room, trying to find a way back to his comrades.
And then, he sensed it—movement in the shadows.
Before he could react, he stepped back, raising his fists into a reluctant battle stance. His heart raced as he braced himself for a fight.
“Toga,” Izuku whispered as she stepped into the dim light, his eyes widening in surprise.
Toga stood there, her face lighting up the moment she saw him. “Izuzu!” she exclaimed, her voice bubbling with joy. She skipped toward him, her bright eyes sparkling with excitement. “I missed you!” She twirled in place happily, almost like a child, and then clasped her hands behind her back with a playful grin.
Izuku blinked, lowering his guard but still feeling tense. He remembered their last encounter—how tense and confusing it had been. Yet here she was, smiling at him like they were old friends. “Toga… What are you doing here?” he asked cautiously, trying to make sense of the situation.
Toga giggled, tilting her head to the side as she drew closer to him. “Don’t worry, Izuku! I’m not here to fight you. Or any of your little hero friends. Not today!” She beamed at him, bouncing slightly on the balls of her feet as she spoke. “I’m just following orders, but I got lucky! No fighting you today!”
Izuku felt a strange mixture of relief and confusion wash over him. He was happy to see she wasn’t trying to hurt anyone, but he couldn’t understand why she seemed so… happy. “I’ve been thinking about you,” he admitted softly, his eyes narrowing slightly. “I’m glad you’re okay… but after what happened last time, I don’t know if I can trust you.”
Toga’s smile softened at his words, and her cheeks flushed a bright pink. She pressed her hands to her face, twisting side to side with a bashful giggle. “Oh, Izuzu, you’re so silly! You can trust me,” she cooed, her voice lowering to a playful whisper. She looked up at him through her lashes, her eyes sparkling with sincerity. “I’d never lie to you. You’re the only person in the world I’ve never lied to.”
She twirled happily, her skirt swishing around her legs as she hugged herself, clearly delighted by her own admission. Her cheeks were still flushed, while glancing shyly at him as if waiting for his reaction.
Izuku’s heart skipped a beat at her words. He could feel his face growing warm as he watched her. *Why is she like this?* he thought to himself, suddenly feeling nervous. He’d never been alone with a girl like this before, let alone one who seemed to care about him so intensely. And even though she was a villain, he couldn’t shake the feeling that deep down, she wasn’t all bad. He cared about her—more than he wanted to admit.
“Toga,” he started, swallowing hard, “Why are you here? Is the League working with the Hassaikai?”
Toga stopped twirling and crossed her arms, pouting in annoyance. “Pfft, no way! We’re not really working with them. Shigaraki just sent me and Twice here to gain their trust and follow orders, but I hate them.” She scrunched her nose, her eyes flashing with disdain. “They’re pathetic. Fake villains, the lot of them.”
Izuku raised an eyebrow, surprised by the venom in her voice. “If you hate them so much, why are you here?”
Toga sighed dramatically. “Ugh, I told you, I’m just doing what I’m told! But believe me, I don’t plan on sticking around. They killed one of my comrades, and I’m going to make sure they pay for it.” Her playful demeanor faltered slightly, her expression turning serious for a moment as she spoke. Izuku’s gaze followed hers, and that’s when he noticed the blood dripping from her leg.
“Toga, you’re hurt!” Izuku gasped, his heart racing with concern. He stepped closer, his eyes wide with worry. “Who did this to you?”
Toga blinked in surprise at his concern, her cheeks flushing once more. She pressed her hands to her face, her expression softening into a warm smile. “Aw, don’t worry about me, Izuzu. I’m fine. You’re such a hero… always caring about people when you shouldn’t.” She twirled a strand of her hair, her voice taking on a dreamy tone as she blushed even deeper. “I really admire that about you.”
Izuku felt his face heat up with embarrassment. His hands fumbled slightly as he reached for a bandage from the medical supplies in the room. “I can’t just leave someone hurt, especially someone who… I know deep down isn’t all bad,” he said quietly as he carefully wrapped her injured leg.
Toga watched him with wide eyes, her heart fluttering in her chest as he gently tended to her wound. “You’re wrong, Izuzu,” she whispered, her voice unusually soft. “I’m not good. I’m only good… to you.”
Izuku frowned as he tied off the bandage. “I don’t believe that. You’re angry because they killed your friend. Wanting to avenge someone isn’t something a bad person would care about.”
Their eyes met then, lingering in a way that made Izuku’s heart race. Toga’s gaze was soft, almost loving, as she looked at him. He felt something shift between them—an unspoken connection that neither of them could fully understand. She sat there, her usual chaotic energy subdued, and for a brief moment, they weren’t hero and villain. They were just… two people.
But before anything more could be said, the door to the storage room burst open, and Overhaul’s men stormed in, weapons raised. Izuku immediately jumped to his feet, standing protectively in front of Toga.
“Toga, stay back! You’re hurt,” he said firmly, his fists glowing with the power of One For All.
Toga stood up beside him, her usual playful smile returning. “Don’t be silly, Izuzu. There’s too many of them. You should go find your friends.”
“I’m not leaving you!” Izuku shouted, his heart pounding.
The men sneered at Toga, their voices dripping with malice. “Look at this psycho bitch trying to protect a hero. Betraying us? You’re going to die for that.”
Toga’s eyes flashed with anger, and she grinned wildly. “You think I care what a bunch of pathetic wannabes think? You’re nothing more than a bunch of failed wannabe gangsters, hiding behind a dying old man. Thats going to drop dead soon. I’m just happy I don’t have to pretend to like you anymore.” She said mockingly sticking out her tongue.
Her words enraged Overhaul’s men, and in a fit of fury, they charged at her. But instead of fighting, Toga turned and darted down a hidden tunnel that she had spotted earlier. “Catch me if you can, losers!” she called over her shoulder, her laughter echoing through the tunnel.
Izuku watched in horror as they chased after her. His instincts screamed at him to follow, to protect her, but just as he was about to take a step forward, Mirio and the other heroes burst into the room.
“There you are, Midoriya! We need to move!” Mirio shouted. “We’re running out of time—we have to find Eri!”
Izuku’s heart wrenched as he looked back at the tunnel where Toga had disappeared. His duty as a hero weighed heavily on him, and he knew what he had to do. He couldn’t let his feelings for her—whatever they were—get in the way of saving Eri.
With a deep breath, he turned away from the tunnel. “I’m coming, Mirio,” he said firmly, pushing Toga’s presence to the back of his mind as best as he could. He had a mission to complete, and right now, Eri needed him more than anything.
As they rushed through the hallways of the Hassaikai headquarters, Izuku couldn’t help but feel a pang of worry for Toga. *Be safe, Toga,* he thought silently. *Please be safe.*
But for now, he focused on the mission ahead. The battle wasn’t over yet, and there was no room for distractions. His resolve hardened as they neared Overhaul’s lair, ready to face whatever lay ahead.
And deep down, even though he knew their paths were destined to cross again, he could only hope that next time, he wouldn’t have to choose between being a hero… and caring for her.

This poor, suffering child, who was even apologizing when he was in great agony...Izuku's lips pressed into a thin line, eyes ablaze with determination. He will save him no matter what so that he would not have to become that Dabi he'd encountered.
That man who had forgotten how to love, and lost the ability to forgive.
As soon as the flames cooled somewhat, Izuku picked up Touya with shaky hands. He didn't want to waste more time crawling on the ground, so he just stood up and ran in the direction of the river. Once there, he jumped in first to assess the depth, then dragged the kid in as soon as he determined it was safe, just unpleasant.
The sharp contrast in temperature made him shudder, and the initial contact with water brought a new wave of sting against the burns on his hands before its coolness became relieving. "We are okay," he managed to call out some reassurance as he supported Touya with one hand on the back of his neck before dunking him fully into the river.
"Are you okay? Breathe." He urged the kid when he lifted the other's face above the river surface. "Does anywhere hurt particularly badly?" Izuku wanted to give that information to emergency service people when they arrive, and they should soon because he was hearing sirens in the distance.
the words did not reach him clearly, though touya could catch a little, enough that he felt his eyes well up. but whatever wetness formed was soon evaporated from the heat alone. it hurt, but the presence of someone else didn't make him feel so stuck and all alone. and the coolness of whatever the hell was slapped onto him.
“ i'm sorry! ” he screamed. there was guilt eating at him, for whoever this was, touya could not even feel the type of grip on his hand. how large or how small, how weak or tough, smooth or rough ... bare handed or gloved. he just felt a weight. an anchor. and he was burning them. he had to stop it -
( it has to hurt, it's hurting us so much ... despite the moments of numbness it still seeped through it - it hurt - was this what dad meant?! how did he - !! )
a burst of white hot pain continued to move through his nerves, through his bones, touya felt his skin tighten as he shouted again, the flames still on his body though not shooting out as much. the suffocating presence of the drenched shirt and scarf were still being eaten by new flames, but they were weaker. he had no way to stop the flames that caught on the ground or the trees, as it was getting hard to breathe, to think clearly. a squeeze at his hand brought him to earth again. it was then that he could feel tears build safely in the corners of his eyes. the heat from the eldest todoroki child no longer grows and even began to fall. even as flames raged and roared in the trees.
“ i'm so sorry ... ”
#kid is safe#i will make sure izuzu runs away from dad shows up and we royally eff the timeline#crem8#also he will not introduce himself for that same reason lol
