So I purposefully haven't listened to the Season 2 soundtrack of IWTV because I want to listen to the score in the context of the tv show first. And I'm so glad I have because so much of the score is just making the episodes even better. It is just so cinematic, which is something very rare when it comes to TV scores. (The scores for the Game of Thrones TV universe being one of them).
And there are two musical moments from Episode 2 that really stood out for me; one in particular because of its variations on existing pieces that I heard in it and want to point out, which is the "Paris Sucks" score:
When that score moment first began to play as the episode opened, I said to myself, "Oh, Gershwin's "An American in Paris"? That's fitting! But wait -- it sounds like it's also mixed with "Rhapsody in Blue". . . ?"
And that's, of course, when I quickly realized that it wasn't either those Gershwin pieces that were playing. But oh, it is very much a variation of them both, IMO. The piece is so Gershwin in its feel and tone, it was very easy to mistake it at first. This particular arrangement when it comes to "An American In Pairs" for sure I'd say, from the movie of the same name's dream ballet sequence:
youtube
However, the best track from the episode was, at least to me, "They Invited Us For a Hunt.":
The crescendo part of this piece in particular reminded me of "The "Dance at the Gym (Blues)" from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein. However, this piece, I don't think was a direct variation on, (unlike the one above), but there was still something similar about it to me:

ROUND 1C, MATCH 2
Descriptions/Propaganda under the cut:
Loustat fight revisited (2x07)
In the trial, Lestat lays out his version of the fight seen in 1x05. While the original scene focused on Claudia, this perspective shows the lead-up to Lestat flying Louis into the sky and dropping him. Bloodied from throwing each other across their townhouse, the pair face each other in the coffin room. After seven years of ignoring each other in their own home, all the built-up resentment comes out as Louis aggressively threatens Lestat for daring to hurt their daughter. Lestat's expression changes from hurt at the idea of Louis leaving him, to murderous, the pain turning to anger, enraged that Louis clearly does not return his affections. In the trial, Santiago attempts to minimise the damage Lestat caused that night, but Lestat, going off script, disallows this and uses the moment to apologise to Louis, clearly feeling extreme guilt over his actions. The scene is disturbing, revisiting a contentious moment from season one, and highlighting Lestat's abuse while still exploring his feelings in the relationship. The scene is scored by 'Vien A Moi Encore' by Daniel Hart, an extended and reimagined version of season one's 'Vien A Moi', most notably used when Lestat calls to Louis in the church in 1x01, showing the inequality and danger in their relationship from the start. "I'm gonna take this hand here and wrap it round that scrawny head of yours, just like you did our daughter. And I ain't gonna stop until your eyes pop. [...] And I'm going to laugh!"
Propaganda:

Threesome scene (1x01)
Lestat takes Louis back to his house, bringing him a "gift", which turns out to be Lily, a woman both men were fond of, who worked at the Fair Play Saloon. Sitting opposite the pair, Lestat watches Louis and Lily kiss, and eventually joins them, sitting next to Louis. Louis is clearly drawn to Lestat, but is ashamed of his desire, pushing himself away from the other man after he finds himself kissing his hand. Lily reassures Louis that everything is alright, but Louis returns his attention to her instead. After Lily passes out, with the help of Lestat, Louis finally surges up towards Lestat to kiss him as the music swells. The scene in New Orleans ends with the two men floating above the ground, naked, as Lestat feeds from Louis. The scene mixes lust and vampiric desire, intertwining the taboo of homosexuality in the early 20th century with vampiric imagery perfectly and is a bold moment in the pilot, as most other adaptations of The Vampire Chronicles do not feature sex at all. The scene features an unreleased track which incorporates the Louis/Lestat love theme from 'In Throes of Increasing Wonder' by Daniel Hart, which emerges as the two men come together to finally kiss. "When you were using drugs, Mr Molloy, do you remember the best you ever had? [...] So, imagine that flowing inside your veins again. Now multiply it by miles to the rings of Saturn and back."

Headcanon on Daniel Molloy's Sexual Orientation
TLDR: Bisexual (/pansexual/omnisexual/...) people exist. Spoilers for IWTV Season 2!
HC: Daniel Molloy is a bi guy who was comfortable being openly queer and very active in the queer community in the "Free Love" scene of the 1970s. However, the HIV/AIDS epidemic of the early 1980s led to him effectively re-closeting himself. And his failed marriages and inability to maintain intimate relationships made him choose to be alone, which let him avoid reassessing his sexual orientation/identity.
In the 1970s, Daniel met Louis and Armand for the first time in a gay bar. During the first 1973 scene, in S1E6, the bartender at Polynesian Mary's asks Daniel "Do you have money tonight, Danny?" indicating he's there often enough to have a reputation and be known on a first-name basis, so he's not just there because "it was a good place to score" like he lies to Louis during their present-day interview. (Contrast with the nondescript and anonymous recountings of the blacked-out fragments of memory punctuating the rest of Daniel's drug-fueled escapades.) In S2E5, young!Daniel makes obvious passes at both Louis and Armand, telling Louis "I can cheer you up" and taking his shirt off; offering to Armand, "I could be on my knees in a second".
It's not like Daniel was trying to pass for heterosexual in 1973.
In the ad for Daniel's pay-to-order journalism class at the start of S1E1, the first few news clippings selected to show his journalism cred are about the HIV/AIDS crisis and are oriented towards representing LGBT+ activism in response to it, indicating that this was a focus of Daniel's early journalism. In S2E5, one of 1973!Daniel's interview tapes that Armand grills him on focuses on Kevin, a Vietnam vet and his double-amputee Vietnamese refugee boyfriend who live in the Castro together. (The Castro is the historically gay neighborhood in San Francisco where queer activist Harvey Milk became the first openly gay elected official in California.)
Daniel, even as early as the 1970s and throughout the increased stigmatization of homosexuality in the 1980s, wanted to tell the stories of the queer community.
But telling the stories of the queer community in the 1980s meant telling the stories of lives and loved ones lost to the AIDS crisis, before research had yielded medical management regimens or any understanding about how to prevent the spread of HIV. AIDS was still seen as "the gay plague". AIDS was still a death sentence.
And Daniel likes women, too. And had the readily available excuse of any of his queer relationships/encounters/community in the 1970s being about the drugs, or a result of them. He could claim he was an addict willing to do anything for drugs rather than a queer man who had an easier time acting on his non-heterosexual attractions while high. And he's the reporter who catches the stories that slip through the cracks, he made a name for himself getting the angle none of the mainstream outlets can see, so he could still engage with the queer community as an "interviewer" and "journalist" and straight-passing "ally". He could likely publish more articles and books at that time as an ally journalist telling the queer perspective than he would have as a stigmatized/blacklisted openly queer journalist. Being an "ally" would give him access to platforms and audiences that would never hear a queer perspective otherwise.
Even though Daniel re-closeted himself and "passed" for decades as a straight ally, he never turned his back on the queer community or stopped trying to tell queer stories or represent queer lives.
But that let him continue to justify his re-closeting to himself as "I can do more good for the queer community as an ally." And even as the AIDS crisis shifted into AZT, then single-pill ART, then PrEP, even as HIV became a manageable chronic illness, even as decades passed and times changed and LGBTQ+ representation changed, Daniel stayed closeted.
And in that time he fell genuinely in love with Alice, who initially refused to marry him even though she wanted to because he'd given her no reason to trust him, eventually agreed to marry him, and later divorced him. Decades later, he still gets emotional talking about Alice. And then he got married, again, and divorced, again. He says he "ruined two marriages" and "fucked up two daughters." All that mattered was his work. It was his lifeline. It was his legacy. Interpersonal relationships were not.
He ruined all his romantic relationships. He ruined his families. And it was easier to be alone after that, and it was an easy excuse for why he continued to choose to be alone. But it was also a continuation of the logic behind his initial intentional re-closeting during the AIDS crisis in the 1980s: "I can do more good this way."
1980s Daniel: "I can do more good telling the queer perspective as an ally than as a member of the queer community. If I'm just an ally, people will actually read these stories."
2020s Daniel: "I can do more good alone. If I try dating again, I'll just wind up ruining someone else. And there are still stories that need to be told; work can keep me busy."
He was openly bisexual/queer in the 1970s, then bisexual/queer but intentionally "straight-passing" and in exclusively heterosexual relationships from the 1980s until the show's present-day, and still bisexual/queer throughout his interviews with Louis and Armand.
Bisexual orientation, attraction to multiple genders, and queer identity don't go away when a bisexual person is in heterosexual relationships/homosexual relationships/single. Daniel in a gay bar in the 1970s was bisexual; Daniel in love with Alice in Paris was still bisexual; Daniel married to women and ultimately divorced from them was still bisexual; Daniel in S2E5 being obviously disappointed to learn that he and Louis didn't get it on in the 1970s and making big vulnerable eyes at him in present-day when he jokes, "do you want to [have sex] now?" is still bisexual.
But now it's 2022 and Daniel's ruined two marriages and estranged from his kids and opted to be alone for a long time and may as well have been married to his work, and he's just been diagnosed with Parkinson's and he's anticipating dying alone.
And instead he flies to Dubai, has a bunch of really long therapy sessions with two absurdly gorgeous openly gay vampires (both of whom he has made passes at, back when he was still openly queer), many of which focus on the vampires' respective sexual orientation journeys of self-discovery and coming out, even more of which focus on stupid-hot queer gothic romances between various configurations of stupid-hot gothic romantic queers , and one of which involves him meeting Louis and Armand in a gay bar in the 1970s back when he was still openly queer. Mortal-ass, Parkinson's-impaired, forever-alone, septuagenarian Daniel Molloy brings his factchecking skills and token snark to a duel with an angelically beautiful 500-year-old master gaslighter with superpowers and Daniel fucking WINS, and if that isn't Viagra for the soul, I don't know what is. And instead of dying alone, Daniel Molloy gets to live forever.
Louis comes to see vampirism as a gift because it allows him time to work through his issues and become someone he can learn to live with.
Daniel might come to see vampirism as a gift because it gives him time (and a community, and motivation in the form of an assortment of really hot vampires who are suddenly all single thanks to Daniel's mad homewrecking/therapy skills) to figure out how to live an openly bisexual/queer life.
So it's 2024, Daniel Molloy is newly immortal and invincible and has the virility of a fledgling and wants to explore his queer identity. The rest of the world better hydrate well and buckle the fuck up.

Hey you...yes you....
Do you love Daniel Hart's score?
Do you love Ben Daniels?
Do you want to see more queer & Catholic horror?
Well, now that the second season of IWTV is over, have I got a show for you: The Exorcist (2016-2018)
As a bonus, Rolin Jones was an executive producer.
It costars Ben Daniels, Alfonso Herrera (Sense8), and Kurt Egyiawan (House of the Dragon). The first season also has the legendary Geena Davis!
I'll admit, the explicitly queer stuff is limited to specific episodes. (Okay actually upon rewatch...there's actually a lot more queerness in this series than I remember. Huzzah). The show is really good and sadly got cancelled after 2 seasons. It explores ideas of faith and belief and crises of faith and the ego that can accompany a righteous cause. (ETA: Oh and also deals with trauma and burnout). Plus also it's got demons. And some great twists on who is possessed and why and how that all plays out.
Anyway, it's worth checking out. It's available on a number of streaming platforms including Tubi for free.

i'm bored and feel like writing down my iwtv season 2 predictions
theme of the season will be louis and claudia realizing over and over again that all other vampires lack the humanity chip they have
armand and santiago will kiss at least once
claudia and madeleine will date (we will all throw up when you know what happens)
louis makes ALL the first moves with armand and the other theatre des vampires members are like "omg dude calm down you're BEGGING for it"
antoinette is NOT alive
devil's minion chapter is actually just like one drug-fueled week and that's why daniel doesn't remember anything
"la vie en rose" or "hymne a l'amour" plays at least once in the background
daniel hart's score will literally bring tears to our eyes (aka "hey sis you don't need me" will play in the last scene between louis and claudia)
louis will lick blood off the scythe
marius jump scare in the second to last episode– "i could not prevent it" is the trial interspersed with armand backstory
reveal is not that louis was straight up LYING about everything it's just that louis cannot distinguish himself from lestat (and possibly armand) in certain memories
lestat will show up crusty and dusty in the present in the last 15 seconds but it won't? be in dubai (a creepy synth-y cover of "sympathy for the devil" WILL be the credit needle drop)
what are everyone else's theories/predictions? 🤪

i’m rewatching the first season of iwtv rn and i’m so struck by how incredibly gorgeous the score is. i just finished episode 2, so i’m sure there’s more to talk about in later episodes that i’ve forgotten, but the music paints such a devastating picture of the enthralment that loustat have together. for louis, lestat is an otherworldly being that seems so divorced from his normal life. even when he’s a vampire, when lestat is romancing him, the music is so ethereal (in throes of increasing wonder has the chimes for the fantasticality and the strings for the romanticism). anyways in short daniel hart i would give a lung for you.

ROUND 1B, MATCH 2
Descriptions/Propaganda under the cut:
First Dreamstat appearance (2x01)
In the cold of war-ridden Eastern Europe, Louis hallucinates Lestat rising from the darkness. Dreamstat appears to Louis in his blood-soaked Mardi Gras outfit, with a slit throat to match. As an imagined version of Lestat, Dreamstat mirrors Louis's movement and intonations, and also acts absurdly, for example, a bird rips its way out of his slit throat, flying away into the fog. The scene is scored by Shruti Kumar's 'First Time in New Orleans' which also appears in 2x08 when Louis is returning to New Orleans in the present day. This track incorporates the Louis/Lestat love theme, making the scene feel familiar in the unfamiliar environment season two starts off in. It is clear that Louis feels an uncanny sense of home and safety with Dreamstat, despite the guilt that comes with it ("He came by invitation. My distraction from the monochromatic landscape."). The scene shows the lasting effect that killing Lestat, his lover and maker, has had on Louis, even years after the event, still picturing him as he was when he died and paranoid about his return. "But in answer to your question... Yes. I'm gonna fucking kill you." "If you were alive, you'd have done it already." "Oh love, I'm merely waiting until you're happy. So hurry up, mon cher."
Propaganda:
No propaganda was submitted for this scene.
Happy trio montage (1x04)
Claudia narrates, through her diary, a series of moments from Claudia's first few years as a vampire with Louis and Lestat. These moments include Claudia's 17th birthday, in which Louis and Lestat wear party hats and Claudia is provided with three dead bodies to eat (also wearing party hats); Claudia joining Louis and Lestat in a dance together by the incinerator, and the three vampires going to watch a screening of Nosferatu (1922) to great amusement. The dynamic between Louis, Lestat and Claudia is parental, as Claudia is still very young and her turning seems to have rekindled Louis and Lestat's relationship. This scene is loved by fans as it is one of the softer, more wholesome parts of the show, and there is a domesticity apparent in the three vampires' relationship, which is not shown often throughout the series. Additionally, the joy shown in the montage further highlights the deterioration of the family relationship as the episode and season progresses. "Dear new diary. Nice to meet you! What adventures we will have. You've joined a happy home, even if we're an odd one. [...] We do like mortals do. We fight, we eat, we laugh, we sleep, we love."

Thank you @savagewildnerness !
I cannot figure out how to select all 15 from your post alone but I’m on mobile so that could be why there is an issue. This sounds like fun though!
1. Favourite series of Interview with the vampire so far?
A: I’m actually torn! (I had a longer answer and will have to return another time, but summary is that S1 has a special place in my heart so I’m going to say S2 is the favorite in the seasons to come it will likely be a favorite.)
2. Favorite episode (you can have 2 from each season if you must!) from season 1 & 2 & why?
A: (S1) First episode and Final Episode. The tale seduces me and I enter a world like no other and really am moved at how it feels I walk into the realm of these series and characters for the first time despite the other films.
The final episode because it was just turned up to an eleven wasn’t it? The theatrics, the costumes, the conflict, the tension, the entirety of that episode was quite spectacular.
A (cont’d): Season Two will be Episode Five and Episode Seven. I don’t choose Episode Seven to be cruel, I think it just showcased how much Claudia means and the fact that that episode forever haunts me is quite impactful. A favorite would be more Episode Six but for impact I have to choose 7. Episode Five follows the IwtV trend of throwing you a curveball and I became much more fascinated with the layers and layers of Armand. Quite an intense episode but it also gave Daniel and Louis a chance to speak on something dear and that is a favorite for that alone.
3. Favourite scenes (any series) & why?
“The Library of Confusion.”
Louis evisceration takedown.
Louis’ Christmas decorating.
Louis being giggly after being turned.
“Did you eat the baby?”
Claudia mock gasping Lestat at the end of season one.
Lestat being so petty at the opera and noting with blood which notes were flat. (Chills up the spine.)
“I almost ate my nephew Lestat.”
Undisclosed moments of Lestat being Lestat.
(Season Two)
Daniel just bullying Armand and Louis (bantering? It’s great whatever it is).
Armand’s vulnerability when discussing his painting. His history.
Armand being a completely unhinged Gremlin.
He and Louis in episode five just nailing one another’s insecurities like this is a roast.
The “Real Rashid” remarks.
Daniel hook line and sinking Armand in the episode.
Armand in the historical times in those shades. Whatever was going on he left an impression. Oh and present day for giggles Armand returning to his own shitstorm was great.
Claudia’s heart and strength, and being able to find what she was looking for, and she deserves better.
Favourite character(s) from the TV show & why?
A: I like all of the main characters. (Lestat, Louis, Claudia, Armand, Daniel, Rashid, etc.)
I think Paul and Charlie stand out in season one to me a lot. I really felt for Paul. Charlie just broke my heart for everyone involved.
Season Two, a love to hate towards Santiago. It puts the capital C in a word I usually won’t say and don’t mind if others do.
Sam the Vampire continues to hilariously baffle me so since I think on him a lot it must be a slight favorite.
A top tier favorite too is younger Daniel.
Best thing for you about the TV show?
A: It brought so many things back together for me that it’s - silly to share here and this is getting long already but it really moved me, it stirred passion and creativity, the wonder I should say in passion and creativity that I hadn’t felt it years.
It also drew me back to the first time I was able to attempt reading the first book, and reconnect me with Louis, a character that as a young child I felt I understood from what little I got to know but around unkind dogmatic religious sorts, I was left scarred and afraid and blocked out how much curiosity and love I wanted to have for that book and for Louis.
Favourite piece from the score (or describe the moment of the music in the show)?
A: Hmm. I like a lot of the scores in general, for I’m pretty much into instrumentals but I love the opening credits. It reminds me of the haunting introduction to the film Queen of the Damned and yes I know, it did a lot wrong and I’m aware now but a comfort film as a teenager.
Moment/theme you’re most looking forward to in season three?
A: Oh goodness, I know the rockstar aspect is going to energize this is such a fascinating way and with Lestat it’s going to be so different but I’m excited for whose coming on board and also who is staying! I am eager to see how Daniel, how Louis, how Armand fit into this season!
Leave any comments you wish to make about films here?
A: The 90s IwtV film had to ‘grow on me’ and it was probably a better film compared to QotD but I saw QotD first and loved the music, was something I didn’t get to see often except a friend had the copy at their house but I loved it.
Now? I’m still going to say the score and music from QotD is good. The film in IwtV is definitely interesting and performances by Dunst and Cruise are there for a reason.
For book readers: favourite book from the entire Vampire Chronicles and why?
A: My journey with the books is so bad. I started with IwtV, got scared from it among other things. Found a vampire book later called Blackwood Farm and that has been the first of TVC I have finished. I know have the first, second and third books, and hope to really do this proper now. Where I used to live you couldn’t get access to her books or in much order!
If you have a favourite moment, story arc or quote (or a few), share here.
A: The quote that Louis says to Daniel. I’ll leave it at that but the very heartfelt one.
I’ve already shared quotes - my bad.
Favourite book characters and why.
Hard to say seeing where I’ve been on the book journey. I liked Quinn and then I got so so so mad at Quinn. That book was the bonk of bonkers. It has a special place in my heart but wow were there things in there to give you a thousand mile stare!
Feelings about TV show versus books.
Seeing as we’ve had the films and the actual gift where the series just feels - connective to the essence (my opinion I know) but the essence of the world and the characters themselves, I think it’s wonderful. I imagine as time continues and I read more, I’ll be feeling more conflict or wanting more books adapted (maybe?), but this is my consensus for now.
Do you remember how you felt when you first read The Vampire Chronicles? Share any memories/feelings/changes to how you feel now you would like.
Oops. I did that earlier too and don’t want to get too personal but it really affected me and my soul when I was scared away from the book. I was told I was a monster going to hell, and I was probably 10. For starting to read a fictional book. I was scared I had caused a relative health issues because the characters had questioned God when I had stopped I mean it was just in hindsight a mess but before all of that went down?
I felt - curious and in this encasement and surreal wonder that was captivating, dark but personal, beautiful and intriguing, a tale of monsters and their existence with and without their humanity (their perception of it I suppose) and a lot was going to likely go over my head, I’ll never know but the series brought back my heart for it and I’ll cherish it for what it brings as itself but it is a great set of stories I feel and love the series.
Anything else!
