TERRA 18 - CUBA CRISIS

Kyungmi's expression continued to haunt me in my sleep for the next few days. Her last words echoed in my mind, leaving me disturbed by the fact that ending her life seemed to be the only way to free her from her dependence on drugs. Unfortunately, both the raw and refined versions of the drug failed to help Lyn Morse and Gong Kyungmi; instead, it only made them more reliant on it.

Today is Sunday, July 1st, 2079. While my team decided to take some time off, I didn't return to Japan. We hid our vehicle in Greenland and took refuge in the woods. The news was reporting an attack on North East Berlin, highlighting not so much the human casualties but rather the destruction of the city itself. To make matters worse, we were now labeled as enemies of Earth – not just my team but also all other teams involved. Needless to say, I was not pleased with this development.

"The Kyeclate drug – whether refined or not – is lethal for its users," I asserted during a meeting with others present. "We've already witnessed its devastating effects on Lyn Morse, Gong Kyungmi, and Iwata Sayuri. The unrefined version caused immediate brain death in Lyn while creating an insatiable craving within her body for more drugs. As for Kyungmi and Iwata, they became dependent after their first use and progressively weakened with subsequent usage. It's a perilous substance that poses a significant threat to humanity; therefore we must locate and shut down all other production lines."

My frustration was tangible as I expressed these concerns shared by my team members.

Daisuke grimly announced, "We've discovered another major production location in Cuba. They are not only manufacturing the Kyeclate drug but also the Mors Agita virus and Obitus Clarus poison. Your team will be responsible for infiltrating this site, and we have another team on standby to assist upon your arrival."

I changed the subject. "What about the autopsy for Kyungmi and Iwata?" Kokoro asked.

"It's similar to Lyn Morse," Kokoro replied. "Iwata's organs are less damaged compared to Kyungmi's. Kyungmi used the drug three times which caused her organs to fail and reject the drug. On the other hand, Iwata was doing well when he injected it for the second time."

"Does it depend on the user?" Isabel questioned.

"Yes, it does depend on the user," confirmed Kokoro. "Based on our gathered information and hypothesis, it appears that a human body can withstand up to four uses of the refined Kyeclate drug before experiencing organ failure. However, using the unrefined drug would result in immediate death for the user, as we witnessed with our first subject, Lyn Morse."

“There is still limited information about the subject, and her hypothesis may be incorrect,” commented Daisuke. “The drug Kyungmi used is partially refined from Seunghoon's data, meaning it can still be further developed into a controlled state.”

“The administrator doesn't desire a controlled state and I don't believe Raquel cares either,” added Asuka. “She is openly proclaiming that she can cause harm to humanity in real-time. The Berlin siege and Shenzhen assault were meant to send a message not only to us but also to all of humanity. According to news reports and online commentators, her message is clear and alarming.”

“Have you received any updates regarding Aberrant Cobalt that Kyungmi used as armor?” I inquired.

"Aberrant Cobalt is a rare space material. It's a rock floating near the edge of the Milky Way Galaxy. It's mined for warcraft like Kyungmi's armor or those flying ships from Shenzhen and Berlin, or the armor used in Big Bertha," Daisuke explained. "Aberrant Cobalt can withstand direct hits from machine guns, shotgun shells, and artillery fire."

"Basically any human weapon," Miyoung added.

"That's correct. Aberrant Cobalt sells well in Zipraria."

"What about the Obitus Clarus poison and Mors Agita virus?"

"We still don't have any information about the Mors Agita virus. It's still limited. However, we have a problem with the Obitus Clarus poison. In translation, Obitus Clarus means Clear Water in English," Asuka said.

"Meaning that humanity won't know if they are drinking regular water or water mixed with the Obitis Clarus poison," I replied.

"Raquel Gustov can easily poison humanity's most important asset without anyone knowing," Daisuke added. "Seunghoon is working on engineering a special filter to counteract the poison in case of an outbreak."

"That's good to know. Anything else?" I asked.

"You're branded as a terrorist by both media and online netizens, Kobayashi," Daisuke added. "Luckily for you, they still don't have a clear photo of you."

"It's not just me; we're all branded terrorists. Besides that, is there anything else?" I asked irritably.

"Nothing else comes to mind except whatever else is out there," they all answered together.

As we made our way towards Cuba, we made a conscious effort to avoid the cities and towns along the American East Coast. Viktor took the time to install camouflage technology on our vehicles in order to minimize our chances of being noticed by the media or pedestrians along the way. Initially, it seemed to be working as we entered the United States.

While Viktor remained hidden behind Big Bertha in the woods, the rest of us ventured into the city to gather food supplies from the market. We managed to borrow a used car for this task, although it took longer than expected due to its slower speed compared to our usual vehicle.

As I sat nearby, I overheard a conversation between two strangers discussing how hot this summer was. They also mentioned future plans of taking SATs and choosing between Miami Dade College and University of Florida for their university studies. It was Friday, July 6th 2079.

I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket. It was a message from Miyoung in the group chat. "We're being followed," she wrote.

Curious, I replied, "Since when?"

"Since Upstate New York. It seems that North American Intelligence noticed something unusual when we entered Nova Scotia," Miyoung explained.

"That was two days ago," I muttered to myself, tapping my head twice with a five-second delay between each tap. "Big Bertha, analyze our surroundings."

Big Bertha quickly responded, "You have the C.I.A and F.B.I following you." The group chat also displayed a couple of photos and additional information.

"They work fast," Viktor commented.

"They're not like wannabe internet investigators. They have resources," I replied. "I will stay behind while Isabel and Miyoung head back.”

Isabel stood up and stretched before saying to Miyoung, "Let's go home. This guy is being boring." They both left their seats.

"There are two people sitting a few seats behind you, Kobayashi," Miyoung informed me.

Big Bertha shared more information on the chat: "F.B.I agents Harmony Bryon and Vivian Jack."

"They're wasting no time," I typed back. "With just one side profile photo, they already have information about me and my family."

I decided to call Michi and stood up from my seat to walk away from it, heading in the opposite direction of Isabel and Miyoung.

"Hey there, it's strange for you to call. What's up?" Michi answered.

"I'm not sure if you know this yet but has anyone been following you?" I asked hesitantly.

"Like the F.B.I and C.I.A?" Michi responded knowingly.

"You already know?" I asked surprisedly.

"I'm a SUITs Special Operative, Katsu," Michi explained calmly. "I've known since the Shenzhen attack."

"That was months ago. They work fast," I remarked.

"You work slow. Don't let them bother you and focus on your job. Come meet me in New York when you're done in Cuba," Michi suggested.

"Is it important?" I wondered.

"You could say that. Anyways, finish up in Cuba and join me for lunch in New York. They have some really good food here. Later," Michi said before ending the call.

As I entered a shopping mall, another text came through from Miyoung: "They're following you. There are four of them.”

"Kobayashi, let's meet up at this location. I'm already here," Viktor spoke, explaining that there was a ten-second delay between Kobayashi and the individuals they were discussing.

I looked straight ahead and tapped a metallic piece on my ear. A 3D map model appeared exclusively before my eyes. It displayed a trail, indicating that navigating through a sketchy alleyway would be beneficial. Using my eyes to move to the next slide, I observed real-time footage of multiple surveillance cameras tracking both my movements and the American agents following me. Viktor was correct about one thing – there was indeed a delay of five to ten seconds between us.

Exiting the shopping mall, I crossed the parking lot, making myself conspicuous after leaving behind a large crowd in a confined space. Once across the street, I entered the alleyway and took a left turn before finding myself in Big Bertha's back bay. She disappeared immediately afterwards. Moments later, the group of agents also entered the alleyway but abruptly halted as confusion spread across their faces. It was clear they couldn't comprehend how someone like me could vanish so quickly. They eventually left several minutes later from that spot.

We departed from Miami and continued our journey to Havana. I did my best not to let the situation bother me, despite knowing that there was a possibility of my family being watched.

"There are only a few videos and screenshots they have analyzed from the Shenzhen and Berlin attacks," I said. "I'm amazed they were able to put the information together and find me. What were we doing in upstate New York?" I asked.

"We went wine tasting in Upstate New York," Miyoung replied. "They had some good wine, so I bought a crate.”

"How did I not know about this?" I asked.

"You handle your liquor poorly, Kobayashi," Isabel answered. "You passed out after the first drink. You were pretty red though."

"I took a photo and sent it to Asuka," Miyoung added.

"Well, that was embarrassing."

"She thought it was cute."

"Of course she did." I changed the subject. "So there were cameras at the location in upstate New York, and the FBI flagged it."

"Pretty much."

"Their technology is top-notch. We were only in the US for a couple of days, and they found out where I was located. Pretty amazing." I changed the subject again. "So what's the situation in Havana?"

Big Bertha spoke up. "You will be meeting Mona Issa and her team in Havana. It is believed that the Nine of Clubs has hidden several nuclear arsenals beneath Cuba."

"So, the Nine of Clubs is planning to bomb cities in the United States? Sounds like Cold War Cuban Missile Crisis 2.0, except neither country knows about it."

"Which will probably lead to another World War," Isabel added. "It's probably what Raquel wants.”

Mona Issa was born into a wealthy family in the small town of Monteriggioni, Italy, in 1220. Despite residing within the walls of a medieval city, she enjoyed a relatively tranquil existence. However, her life was tragically cut short by an unknown and highly contagious disease that rapidly spread throughout the Italian countryside.

"Skipping the formalities?" I inquired.

"We're not in any hurry, Kobayashi," Mona replied. We met at a coffee shop in Havana and settled on the second-floor patio with a view of the city. "Why rush?" Mona took a sip of her cocktail.

"Well, aside from the potential nuclear arsenals hidden beneath this country, there should be concerns," I responded. "My team is scanning the city."

She changed the subject. "I'm Mona Issa, unrelated to Mona Lisa unfortunately. Nice to meet you, Katsu Kobayashi."

"Likewise." I took a sip of my water. "Besides the current situation, any other troubling news?"

"Other than these delicious Cuban cocktails, there's no other troubling news apart from those pesky arsenals," she said as she took another sip from her cocktail.

"Havana seems to be making everyone laid-back amidst everything happening around the world," I remarked.

"That's what Havana does to you," she replied. Mona then shifted gears. "Your target is The Nine of Clubs, also known as Iyaan Nakula. He's hiding in one of his numerous compounds within the city."

"If you know where he is, why hasn't he been apprehended yet?" I asked.

"It's because he isn't at any of his known compounds anymore," Mona explained. "We've already raided and destroyed all his hideouts both within and outside the city. He has nowhere left to go."

"I mentioned, 'In addition to being underground, he could strike at any moment. We need to prevent another attack like what happened in Shenzhen and Berlin, Mona,'" I said. Suddenly, we heard an explosion erupting from the city center followed by several others in different locations. "Miyoung?" I asked.

"It's Iyaan Nakula. They have initiated their assault," she replied."Then let's put an end to it," Mona said as she finished her cocktail, got up from her seat, and jumped off the terrace. I quickly followed suit. As we made our way towards the city center, chaos unfolded around us with more explosions in the distance.

"They are scattered all over. It seems like Iyaan has managed to coordinate his followers for this attack," Mona observed as we landed on a rooftop and headed straight towards where all the commotion was occurring.

Iyaan Nakula was born in 1740 during the period of British colonization in India. He rose up alongside Maveeran Kone to rebel against the British presence in Tamil Nadu. Evading capture from their enemies, they continued to rebel even after Maveeran's execution in 1757. However, Iyaan Nakula was later captured and executed in 1760 for inciting another rebellion in the same region.

"Iyaan isn't in the center, Kobayashi," Miyoung said. "He's trying to escape the city."

"Mona, we need to track down Iyaan before he disappears completely."

"You handle him. I have to assist my teammates."

As Mona continued on her way, I changed course towards the east. However, I was intercepted by Iyaan's bodyguards and ended up taking a bullet to the head with an unexpected assist from Miyoung. Meanwhile, Isabel and Viktor followed us with their vehicles while Mona stayed behind to defend the city with her team.

"She's not helpful," Miyoung remarked.

"No time for that," I replied. "Iyaan fleeing the city means something."

We left Havana and got into our vehicle. Viktor drove off, following Iyaan's path. Isabel launched her aircraft and followed from above. As for me, I hopped onto a speeder and drove out of the garage. Swerving left and right, avoiding enemy fire along the way while also disabling some of the convey's weapons systems. Isabel provided assistance from above as we came under heavy fire from them.

"That's not our target," Big Bertha announced. "There's another smaller convey heading southeast."

"I'll handle it!" Isabel changed direction accordingly.

"Viktor, take care of this group. No one should survive," I ordered."I'll follow Isabel."“I’m on it.” I changed directions and followed Isabel. Viktor spoke. “There’s a group that split off that’s following you, Kobayashi.”

"That way they'll know we're on the right track," I responded. "Let them tail me." The terrain ahead was rough as I made my way towards Iyaan's current location. I did my best to dodge incoming attacks while ascending a hill and entering the forest. They had their own speeders pursuing me from both sides, but the uneven ground proved too challenging for their four-wheelers.

As I rode through the forest, I found myself multitasking - avoiding trees in front of me and enemy fire simultaneously. It was a difficult feat, but I managed it as best as possible. With a quick motion, I unholstered my pistol and targeted my adversaries. Although it amazed me how effortlessly Miyoung could hit her targets while moving.

Reaching the hilltop, my attention was drawn to a small aircraft causing trouble for a convoy near a pond. Following its trajectory while still being pursued, I emerged from the forest into an open space leading to the pond itself. Isabel swooped down towards me in her aircraft and pulled up just in time before jumping out of it. She swiftly neutralized two enemy speeders tailing me and hopped onto the last one remaining. Knocking out its rider, she commandeered it to join forces with me against the group of vehicles at the pond. Isabel drove her speeder passed me and jumped her timing with her aircraft flying towards us. Her speeder slammed into a guard vehicle while she entered her aircraft safely. She flew away, changed direction, and continued harassing the group of vehicle.

"Iyaan is retreating towards the water," Isabel spoke.

I also noticed it and drove past the group of vehicles, quickly jumping out of my vehicle to pursue him. He stopped running, turned, and raised his arm.

"Calm Waters, Violent Waters, Everything is the Same Isn't It, Arno," he said. I saw water rising from behind him as he manipulated it and directed it towards me. I skillfully dodged multiple incoming attacks while charging forward.

Swinging my sword, I clashed with his watery whip. We fought fiercely for a couple of minutes before losing the advantage in our fight.

"What am I looking at, Big Bertha?" I asked.

"Iyaan Nakula is a former member of SUITs," Big Bertha answered.

"A former high-ranking SUITs member in the club's deck? Is that possible?"

"It is indeed possible," replied Big Bertha.

"I'm on my way too, Kobayashi," Isabel said determinedly.

She leapt from her aircraft, high in the sky, and expertly manipulated the air to transform it into ice. Isabel gracefully glided onto the frozen surface as she directed it towards us. Once again creating ice shards in mid-air, she hurled one at Iyaan. The shard shattered into numerous smaller fragments upon reaching him. She also targeted both Iyaan and the remaining vehicle convoy behind me.

Iyaan evaded the shards while simultaneously battling against me. He kicked me away and immediately engaged in combat with Isabel. I witnessed a fierce clash between two water users, their struggle unfolding beneath the water's surface. They fought relentlessly without faltering, and though it lasted only a few minutes, it seemed longer than that. They were nearly evenly matched, but Iyaan appeared to have a slight advantage based on what I observed.

Suddenly, a bullet struck Iyaan's right shoulder. Unfazed by the impact, he continued to put pressure on Isabel. Miyoung arrived from a distance, keeping her distance as she fired at Iyaan. He skillfully evaded each bullet while still fighting against Isabel, demonstrating why he ranked at the top of the deck of club list.

"Pozole, Extend My Reach." I could feel Isabel's energy surging. She tossed Iyaan into the air and disappeared. They clashed above the pond, turning it into a spectacle beyond a mere physical battle. The water rose to their level, resembling Viktor enduring a brutal boxing match and still coming out victorious. The intensity was overwhelming.

"You should leave that area, Kobayashi," Miyoung advised me. I followed her to the tree line where we could observe from a safe distance.

Isabel tightly wrapped her water whip around Iyaan and flung him into the pond. Without hesitation, she dived in after him as they continued their underwater fight with equal strength. Eventually, Isabel was thrown out of the water while Iyaan leaped onto land beside her. Their battle persisted on solid ground, both fighters revving up their speed once again. It was an awe-inspiring sight to witness as sound waves reverberated with each punch exchanged between them – growing louder and more forceful by the minute. Neither of them showed any signs of weakness before Isabel emerged victorious from their close encounter

“You've improved slightly, Isabel," Iyaan gasped for breath.

"Get lost," Isabel retorted, wrapping her water whip around his neck and tightening her grip.

Iyaan laughed. "You know that won't work on a water user, Isabel."

"I know." She pulled him closer and swung her hook sword downwards, slicing off his arm. But Iyaan quickly replaced it with water. "I'll make you bleed out instead, Iyaan."

"Not before I kill you first," Iyaan gasped, throwing his water whip at her. The water touched her and shattered into small pieces of ice.

"You also forgot, Iyaan," Isabal spoke calmly. "That I am also a water user." The shattered ice reformed in her left hand. "Don't mess with me, Iyaan." Isabel thrust her ice shard fist through his face and then through his heart. She tightened her grip on his throat and ripped off his head. Finally, she threw the face into the pond and dropped the body.

"Iyaan Nakula, a former SUITs agent during the Italian Renaissance, mysteriously disappeared," Daisuke mentioned.

"Do you think Raquel influenced his disappearance?" I asked.

"It's highly possible," Daisuke answered.

"That would mean there could be other former SUITs officers and agents influenced by Raquel," I sighed. "Moving forward, we should assume that the rest of the clubs could also be compromised."

They agreed with me. "Anyway, Mona's team and I have been searching for the missing missiles under Cuba for the past few days. We haven't found anything yet, but Mona's team is still looking."

"Do you think it was a ploy to lure your team to Cuba?" Daisuke asked. "There aren't enough illusion shields in Cuba to counteract what happened."

"We'll find out soon enough," I replied.

"Have you seen the news?" Asuka asked.

"If it's about the Havana attack and water anomaly near Matanzas, then yes, I already know," I sighed. "There weren't enough illusion shields in Cuba to protect against the water anomaly."

"I let my emotions get the best of me," Isabel apologized.

"Anyone would have reacted similarly," Daisuke reassured her. "When a former SUITs member joins our enemy faction." He changed the subject. "With that said, it will be much more difficult to keep this hidden war from public eyes. In this age of advanced social media, nothing can stay hidden from millions of people."

"That's true," I sighed. "I had two agencies following my team when we were traveling through the U.S East Coast. My next stop is New York; Michi has something important to share with us in person."

Will Yasuo learn to play nice and push through his selfish desires, or will the group find themselves disbanding as fast as they formed?

The 2020 Taiga Drama will depict the life of Mitsuhide under Nobunaga’s rule. It’s said that the theme or motif of the title ‘Kirin”,��“ 如何にして何れの英雄の前に現れる “ ---  how the appearance of the “kirin (horned beast) will foretell a hero’s story. 

Kirin somehow symbolizes two things: 

1) A beast summoned to slay another beast  2) A premonition of passing sage or leader 

Based on these, it’s similar to how Mitsuhide is seen: a loyal Ashikaga retainer or of Oda. 

Kazama Shunsuke (4TOPS; Johnny’s Ent) is Tokugawa Ieyasu, Osamu Mukai as Ashikaga Yoshiteru, and  Sasaki Kuranosuke as Hashiba (Toyotomi) Hideyoshi ----> This is new! A very tall Hideyoshi.  With Sasaki Kuranosuke as Hideyoshi, I can somehow see that they will paint a villanous streak here.

I just finished the live action Jigoku Shoujo (Hell Girl) show, and I’ve grown to really love the actress who plays Ai, Sayuri Iwata. Tried to do a stylized drawing of her, still don’t know precisely how to do hair ‘realistically’ when starting out, and I’m not sure on eyes as well how I want to do it. ANYWAYS. Practice is practice, so yeah. It’s a decent start. XD

Ai Enma is the main protagonist of the series, and is the one known as the "Jigoku Shoujo"--地獄少女--literally translated into English version as "Hell Girl." As such, she makes a regular appearance in the series, although her appearance is smaller and less frequent in "Hell Girl Three Vessels". She is played by Sayuri Iwata in the live-action television series. Her first name Ai--written in hiragana あい in the manga--is a popular girl's first name meaning "love." Her last name Enma--written in kanji 閻魔 in the manga--actually is a name for the "Yama King" or judge of the dead. Due to the nature of the duties which she is required to carry out, Ai can also be claimed to be the anti-heroine of the series. She also almost never exposes signs of being moralistic or idealistic, and occasionally opposes even those who are attempting to stop her from carrying out her job for a good cause. She is the first Hell Girl.
