one day tooru starts posting stories of his husband, each with a song playing in the background. "hello" by adele for the pic of iwa laughing, "until i found you" by stephen sanchez for the shot of iwaizumi’s back, and "in the stars" by benson boone for hajime smiling warmly under the sunset.
out of his 100k+ followers, a horde of new ones starts freaking out, convinced something serious has happened to his husband, especially when tooru posts one last photo, in black and white, of his hand resting on the empty space of hajime on their king-sized bed and an "💔" in the centre of the image.
the worry turns into absolute chaos when, hours later, tooru posts a photo (of course, in black and white again) of him and hajime in their bathroom mirror. tooru is hugging hajime around the shoulders, flashing a big, toothy grin at the mirror; hajime has one arm around tooru’s waist and the other holding the phone up, smiling softly. in the caption he wrotes: nothing in this world i wouldn’t do to say one more i love you 😞💔
in the comment section, amidst the chaos of fans screaming, praying, and heated debates, @/greatking.tooru pins a comment from @/iwaizumi.h94 that reads: please, DONT fucking pay attention to my husband’s clingy spoilt bastard antics. i’m only in hokkaido for two days and one night for a damn conference
he also pins two more:
@/chicken_terimakki: WE WILL MISS YOU SM, BRO, FLY HIGH LITTLE SPARROW, RIP IN PEACE 🙏🏼🕊️
@/mattsunshine: how are y’all still falling for this, folks? where were you last time iwaizumi left him for two nights and oikawa made a 5 MINUTE fancam of his husband with the song “a thousand years”?
...
writing about married iwaoi and dramatic oikawa is my fav hobby in the whole world
u can find me on my ao3, bsky and this is my carrd!! 🍉

iwaizumi and oikawa are so nervous to meet suga's family. incredibly nervous.
they've never had to do a 'meet the family' thing when they started dating. their families already know each other. they considered each other's families their own long before they even started dating. the only nervewracking aspect was revealing that they were dating but it's not like anyone was surprised by that. (not even oikawa's parents) so things were okay, mostly.
in theory, oikawa should be fine. he did date one girl long enough to meet her parents (and they loved him) but this is different. it's a serious relationship. and there's the polyamorous aspect to consider too. what if they don't get it? what if they think iwaizumi and oikawa aren't taking this seriously and are just fooling around? what if koushi mom decides she hates them and forbids koushi from dating them? (iwaizumi says this is ridiculous because koushi is a twenty four year old adult man - he doesn't comment on the rest of it)
iwaizumi plays it cool for the most part but he won't lie that some of the anxieties oikawa expresses to him make him go "fuck i didn't even think that was a possibility..." he would never say that to oikawa though. he just rolls his eyes and tells him he's being ridiculous. (oikawa knows iwaizumi is nervous too though. of course he does. he knows him better than himself sometimes.)
in the end, they really had nothing to worry about. moms always love oikawa, he's a charmer. it doesn't hurt that he brought flowers. iwaizumi wins her over when he offers to do the dishes after dinner. suga's brother is a little quiet and standoffish at first but warms up to both of them when he sees that they both clearly care a lot about his brother. (sorry oikawa, little suga did in fact think what you feared he would)
they leave with their phone numbers and an invite to the next big family gathering with suga's extended family.

It was a consensus they had set early on.
A simple gesture to shut one up when he rambled more than necessary—a smooch on the lips to beckon him to halt, to take a moment, and to breathe. Contrary to popular belief, Hajime loved listening to his beloved chatter about the most trivial things, so he didn’t use the cue often.
Not when Tooru profoundly criticized Kageyama’s serves in the Brazil Olympics and blatantly denied watching the game more than once (a lie), nor when he mindlessly veered from one misadventure to another with Sebastian and Mira (god knows who they were) in half Japanese and half Spanish, sprinkles of English slang. No, Hajime indulgently paid attention to every word, every roll of tongue, and every prolonged consonant from Tooru’s mouth—smiling ever so fondly when it inevitably puckers to a pout.
The only times Iwaizumi did shush him was when Tooru began to overthink and doubt himself, unwittingly spiralling to needless negativity. Then, Hajime utilized his wildcard, and Tooru would instantly catch up with a hushed, “Hai, hai. I was rambling, wasn’t I? Lo siento, mi amor.”
Hajime would pull him in for another kiss, less rushed and just as tender as the first, until Tooru melted in his arms, basking in his safe warmth.
In some instances, Hajime took Tooru aback, calloused fingers outlining his firm sides and settling on the nub between his nape and his spine; craning Tooru’s face to meet his own and whispering a small, “Hi.”
First, a soft peck on the corner of his mouth, then a gentle nip on his lower lip that made Tooru gasp, easily coaxing Hajime’s tongue in. They’ve been together most of their lives—apart for a while—but intimate moments like these will always feel new yet familiar, special. All at once.
“I wasn’t even talking?” Tooru raised a questioning brow when they parted for a while.
“Hmm? Can’t I kiss mi esposo just because I felt like it?” Hajime asked back as he rubbed circles on Tooru’s slightly puffed cheeks, a tinge of pink on the tip of his ears.
Then, suddenly, another couple entered the room like they owned the space, carefree and giggling; completely unashamed. “Ew,” Kiyoomi teased as he trudged towards the water dispenser in the corner of the kitchen.
“Eeeww,” parroted Atsumu, dramatic as ever, of course. As if Kiyoomi wasn’t giving him a piggyback while he filled his highlighter-hued hydro flask.
“Now can I kick them out of our house?” Tooru rolled his eyes and turned to his husband, lacing their fingers entwined.
Hajime chortled hoarsely and reeled him in one swift motion, not in the least unfazed by the intruders. “Don’t bother, cariño. Just let the children watch.”
And he leaned in to smooch Tooru more fervently, leaving the younger pair in the background wallowing in sweet envy.

Oh Captain, My Captain by karasunovolleygays
“Iwa-chan?” “What now?” “Have you ever, you know, stuck up for me when I wasn’t around?” “Don’t be a dumbass.”
Second years Oikawa Tooru and Iwaizumi Hajime sit outside of the coach’s office, waiting to be called in one by one. The fact that they are separated makes Hajime uneasy. What has to be said that can’t be said in front of both of them?
I just love how Iwaizumi defends Oikawa and how real this situation could have been! Just a great fic!

sometimes i think my problem w writing is i wanna be thorough and detailed on the setting bc i think it enhances the experience more. i do a lot of small things w/ little explanation and where the place doesn't matter and i like doing those! but i also think knowing your location and being able to pull from it is special in its own little way. it's more work and it does detract from the joy of writing a bit, but i always love reading stories that are super immersive and where it's clear the author knows what they're talking abt, so i channel that into my writing as much as possible
which is to say. the gym leader au honestly doesn't need a canon setting and can be vague city-ish like in my head, but also i'm turning the idea of picking a random canon location over in my head and using it for team/type/etc basis to make choices easier

Gift for TachibanasWife: Hajime laughs, “Are you going to ask me if I’d still love you if you were a worm again?” (IwaOi, HQ)
Would you still love me if I were the size of a truck?
Read on Ao3 (Send Kudos)
tags: omegaverse, pregnancy, implied antenatal depression, comfort
note: i've picked up a few more HQ gotcha fics after pinch hits were opened up and here's one of the (surprisingly many?) pregnancy fics i picked up. enjoy~
——————————————————————————
Tooru has mixed feelings when he ends up pregnant. He imagines himself in a few months, all stretched out in the middle with no clothes big enough to fit him. He’ll have giant swollen feet, will probably be lucky if he can see them, and won’t be able to go to the bathroom alone. He’s sure that by the time he’s six months pregnant, Hajime will be tired of him and he’ll be giving birth alone!
Hajime notices he’s spiraling and pinches his cheeks to get him to focus again, “I’m not going to leave you.”
“But I won’t be pretty anymore,” Tooru tells him. He’s only half joking. He knows Hajime isn’t the type of person to care about stuff like that, but…pregnancy was a big change. Not just physically. Their lives would be different from here on out. What if he gave birth and Hajime changed his mind about being a father with him?
His husband kisses him and then whispers, “You’re always going to be the prettiest. Now stop fishing for compliments!”
Tooru pouts, “You only say that now because I’m not the size of a truck!”
Hajime laughs, “Are you going to ask me if I’d still love you if you were a worm again?”
“No,” he grins, “I’m going to ask if you’d still love me if I were the size of a truck.”
His husband pulls him close and starts to scent him, “I would.”
“I’ll be all hard edges and cold and huge. I won’t fit on normal roads.”
He gets a kiss on his temple, “It’s fine. We’ll take the long way. And listen to that cringey pop music you love.”
Tooru is already feeling sleepy from their scenting but he weakly pounds on Hajime’s chest, “Pop music isn’t cringey. It’s stylish. And catchy. I’ve heard you humming it before. Fake hater.”
He feels the rumble of laughter as he closes his eyes.
Scenting soothes Tooru.
It always has but it helps even more after he’s pregnant. He’s not sure why but doubts easily worm their way into his head nowadays and he’s glad he has Hajime at his side to keep him grounded. He’d never known having a child would be so exhausting, not just physically but also mentally (His mother laughs when he tells her, I just thought I’d feel bad for two weeks and that it would hurt 9 months after that! )
It helps when he reads books like The 101s of Childbirth, What the Media Hides About Childbirth, a Guide For Pregnant Parents by Real Birthgivers, How to Raise Independant and Healthy Kids, Simple and Easy Exercises for Omegan Parents, and Will My Body Ever Recover? 10 Easy Steps to Get Back Your Pre-Pregnancy Body by Award Winning Pregnancy Coach Tanaka Jun. Hajime tells him that he doesn’t need books like the last one. That his body will always be perfect. He scowls down at some of the advice and tells him, Your body is changing so that you can nurture our baby properly, during the pregnancy and after.
Tooru isn’t easily pacified. He whines, “But you’re my husband! You’re supposed to say mushy things like that!”
Hajime sighs but looks determined, “Ok. If you’re really worried, I can take care of researching that aspect of pregnancy. You’re already stressed enough.”
And he does. Tooru has seen more reputable titles on his desk (Building Body Fat for a Healthy Pregnancy, 10 Ways to Help Keep Your Mobility While Pregnant) and in his bookmarks (5 Ways My Wife Helped Decrease My Stress During Pregnancy, What I Wish I Knew Before I Became Pregnant (And How I Improved My Mental Health)). They start doing simple workouts at home, which are mainly stretching and breathing focused. It helps him relax
The scenting especially helps when the morning symptoms finally kick in and when the bump finally grows from the size of a peach to the size of a volleyball.
He feels so undesirable in those moments.
“Let’s go out on a date,” Hajime tells him one day when Tooru is under so many blankets, brooding.
“Don’t wanna.”
“Didn’t you say you were craving something sweet?” he asks and Tooru feels himself crumble.
“I am…”
Hajime snakes a hand under the blankets to rub at his belly, “Let’s go for a walk. We can get some fresh air.”
He doesn’t need to tell him he’s worried about Tooru staying cooped in for days for him to understand. He gets out of bed and his feet are slightly sore. Hajime takes no pity, telling him it’s his fault for hibernating in their nest while he’s been busy at work. Then apologizes for being so busy that week. He massages his feet before they go out.
Walks are miracle workers. They must be because it helps improve his mood.
He loves being bathed by Hajime’s scent but it’s fall now and the smell of the crisp air, of the falling leaves, and the flow of the river…it all makes him feel at peace. It also helps that he’s finally eaten something sweet. It doesn’t satisfy the crave completely, but it’s a start.
They hold hands as they sit down near the playground. It’s a weekend so it’s full of children laughing and running around, and families walking their dogs. Tooru watches, transfixed, at how many pregnant parents are walking around.
He’s the first in their group of friends to get pregnant. Some of them don’t want children and others have said they’re not ready yet. He got congratulatory messages and Hinata had been hounding him for details about everything. Even Ushijima had sent him a message. A simple ‘I’m happy for you’. Kageyama had asked if he needed anything about two months ago and Tooru had left him on read (until Hajime told him he was being petty). His reply might have been petty
He grins, “Iwa-chan! Let’s take a picture!”
Hajime smiles, “It’s been a while since you last called me that…”
And Tooru realizes it’s true. He feels his eyes water slightly, “Sorry. I’ve just been…it’s been hard…”
“Don’t,” Hajime tells him, “You don’t have to apologize. Ever.”
They take a few pictures but they’re not exactly what Tooru wants, and it isn’t until another expecting couple walks over and offers to take their picture that he’s satisfied.
He posts the picture onto his Instagram. He hadn’t updated it in months. He thinks it’s easier like this. In the caption he writes: Iwa-chan and I went on a date! Iwa-chan, tell me how pretty I look #pregnantandbeautiful

my totally 100% correct opinion on which haikyuu ships would go canon if it were heterosexual
Kagehina: yes. regardless of which of them were a girl. however they would not get together within the canon of the show but have 1 or 2 almost kisses and then after the series ended you'd find out they got married. Like there'd be 2 lines total talking about them getting married and thats it.
Tsukkiyama: yes. regardless of which of them were a girl. they'd be together at the start of the series and be a relatively boring couple basically just there to make weird heteronormative quips (if yamaguchi were the girl, tsukki would roll his eyes a lot at having to go shopping, etc, and if tsukki were the girl, yamaguchi would be way too insecure about other guys looking at her) BUT late in the series there would be a short arc dedicated to them breaking up and then immediately getting back together and I hate to tell you, it would be cute.
Daisuga: my heart and soul - not in any fucking universe. I dont think there would even be jokes or innuendos about it. I think if Suga were the girl there would even be moments of Daichi like straight up not realizing it. "wdym you cant change with us???" bitches are the Pillars of Reliability for Karasuno they wouldnt bother giving them relationships.
Asanoya: if noya were the girl, yes. If Asahi were the girl, no. Noya could be a fiesty little girlfriend but they'd be too chicken to give a short man a big, bashful ladyfriend and that is the ONLY reason they wouldnt be canon.
Iwaoi: sorry to break it to you but probably not. the writers would be pouting and slamming their fists around like "nooooo they see each other like siblings, we wanted to show male-female friendships were possibleeeeee." however I think the chances would be slightly higher if Iwa were the girl. In that annoying tsundere way of "oh she's never going to admit she likes the guy everyone else also likes" but it would probably only be implied, never canon.
Kyohaba: yes! if Yahaba was the girl. Their entire thing would be switched to "kyotani finding a girl who smacks him around and decides to devote himself to her" where Yabaha would pretend she hates it. Less chance if Kyotani were the girl but I suppose not impossible.
Ushiten: Complicated. I think in general if they were male-female their friendship would play a bigger role. But it would be canon if Ushijima were a girl. Only because of the double standard for women. In the same way that all women characters eventually have children even if they claim they dont like them initially, I think the writers would be too chicken to let a woman be mean and formidable and stern and they would have to temper her with her quirky, ecclectic best friend/boyfriend to make sure people understand she's still Woman. They would be canon within the actual text and not just implied/afterwards but it would only be given enough screen time to establish Ushijima as a feminine woman and then be forgotten so Ushijima could proceed to beat the shit out of whatever team they were up against next. However if Tendou were the girl she would 100% have an overt and obvious crush on Ushijima (probably literally saying she was in love with him out loud) BUT they would let Ushijima keep his intensity and it would only serve to make Tendou quirkier and/or played as a joke, it wouldnt be canon.
Arankita: No! Only because if Kita were a girl, Atsukita would be canon. And I think if Aran were a girl, they would be given a much stronger Best Friends energy in that "male-female friendship" way. both a female kita or a female aran would still be "one of the boys."
Bonus: Atsukita: Yes, but only in promotional media or extras, they wouldnt give screen time to it. Like there'd be a bunch of promotional stuff of like Atsumu picking Kita up or teasing her. yknow.
Bokuaka: Yes, obviously, geez. Doesnt matter which is the girl. Thet would already be in a relationship from the time theyre introduced.
Kuroken: Yes, but they wouldnt get together. It would be like a slow burn where they keep looking at each other with flowers in the background, but it would feel like the writers forgot to put them together. Like the series would end and everyone would go "huh. weird we never got a kuroken confession but alright" No kisses, no hand holding, but like 12 extra minutes of gazing at each other and blushing. But only if Kenma was the girl. If Kuroo was the girl they'd be too chicken ĂĄ la Asanoya and would instead pull an Iwaoi.
Rarepairs as a general rule are a "No" just due to them not being canon for reasons unrelated to gender, however, I want to shoutout these rarepairs:
Kogagoshi: Wouldnt be canon due to not enough screen time, but regardless of who was the girl, Kogane would have been used as a joke developing a spontaneous crush on Goshiki for the camp that is basically just there for comedic relief
Kenhina: regardless of who was the girl this would be an UNBERABLE implied attraction that serves only to create drama between Kagehina. Like nobody who's read love stories with love triangles before would ever think theyd end up together but the writers would try their fucking best to convince you this was plausible over the obviously intended endgame of kageyama.
---
anyway thats just my opinion but Im right so 😌

When Oikawa looks into Iwaizumi's eyes, he sees his whole life reflected in green glass. Thirty years together, thirty springs filled with allergies and butterflies; thirty summers of beaches and sweet watermelons; thirty autumns spent around kotatsus and crunchy leaves; thirty winters wrapped in woolen scarves and frozen hands.
It's so, so many years. And Oikawa wants more. Much, much more. He wants to give Iwaizumi everything he has, offering his heart with the certainty that he won't break it. He wants to entrust him with his soul, confident that he won't wither it. He wants to share all his emotions, knowing he won't despised them.
With Hajime, Tooru comes to life. Without Hajime, Tooru feels lost.
All those years apart were truly dizzying, sometimes separated by the equator when it was just Irvine and San Juan, and other times by an entire ocean when it was just Japan and Argentina. It hurts to remember how hard it was, how strongly nostalgia struck, and the painful sting in their hands when they could see each other through a screen but couldn't touch.
However, it say that when you know, you know, and Tooru and Hajime know. They know they are more than just statistics of failed long-distance relationships. They know they are more than the rest of humanity. They know no one else shares the bond they have. They know no one else puts in the effort they do.
Tooru smiles from his soul as Iwa-chan runs into the curtain of rain falling before them. It smells of damp earth, of summer humidity, of everything right in the world. There is the sound of the rain, its tap, tap. He watches Hajime stretch his arms, spin around, and lift his eyes to the sky. His laughter reaches Tooru like an arrow, striking a heart already filled with arrows of years and years.
"Come here, Tooru, this is amazing!" Hajime turns to him, all genuine smiles and eyes sparkling like a child's. He's drenched, with strands of hair falling over his forehead like seaweed, and his pajama shirt clinging to his torso like a second skin.
Oikawa returns the smile, wide and utterly in love, and steps into the garden. The water falls on his skin, cool and heavy, while the wet grass tickles his bare feet. Tooru wiggles his toes, his smile widening at the sensation, before looking up at the love of his life, who waits for him with outstretched arms and playful eyes.
Come with me, I’ll catch you.
Laughter spills from Oikawa's lips as he runs towards Iwaizumi, leaping into his arms and clinging to him like a koala. Iwaizumi catches him, holding him tightly as they spin. The garden fills with their laughter, with love, with sweetness, with a relationship that has sprouted from the earth and climbed over slippery, cracked walls.
"Happy birthday again, Hajime-chan," Tooru smiles, cradling Hajime's face between his long fingers, gently brushing his rain-dampened cheeks with his thumbs. "30 years and you still have that same grumpy gorilla face, unbelievable," he jokes, lightly pinching his cheeks now, amused as Hajime's brow furrows in response.
"Oi, where's the rule about not messing with the birthday boy on his day?"
"It's a compliment! My favourite grumpy gorilla" Tooru hums, as if cooing to a baby. Despite Hajime's attempts to resist, he finds himself laughing, shaking his head at him.
"Shut up and kiss me now, will you?"
"Always so bossy" He playfully chides, sticking his tongue out in jest. Yet, he soon leans closer, tenderly brushing his nose against Iwaizumi's, a smile dancing on his lips as Hajime's touch on his thigh urges him on. Then, finally, kiss him.
Iwa's lips, cooled by the rain, remain as soft as ever, created specifically for Tooru's own.
When Oikawa looks into Iwaizumi's eyes, he sees his entire life reflected in green glass. And he knows that Hajime's soul is intertwined with his own, that it has always been this way. They were never strangers; they were there for each other all along, even when Tooru had yet to enter the world. Hajime simply waited for him.

not to drop a litle negativity here but I saw a haikyu ship poll to which personally, I don't mind if you like other main ships over bokuaka
if you like iwaoi more than bokuaka? that's valid! because it's your preference
kagehina over bokuaka? also valid! because again that's your opinion and I can respect it and so on for the other main ships
although in the very least, don't downplay/twist the canon material to prove that your ship is superior TvT. Furudate-sensei didn't canonically state that bokuaka were written to be foils to each other, both of them being each other's greatest inspiration in the OFFICIAL character sheet and have a well written dynamic for you to oversimplify what their dynamic amounted to at the end of the series.
for context, the haikyu ship poll that sort of spread caused tension cause they added extra captions like asanoya being a flop ship, iwaoi inventing love over bokuaka and the likes to which they also tweeted this:
Tumblr media
personally I can respect op for liking iwaoi over bokuaka because that's their opinion + I love iwaoi chaotic childhood friends my beloved :'<< but for their argument to not give a proper reason/ water down bokuaka's dynamic is really saddening
so instead of cooking op since the quotes on the tweet are doing it (and I personally don't like starting/insulting anyone cause it just adds fuel to the flame than any actual progress) I'll just drop an actual list of evidence as to why this is wrong:
"They had like 5 moments"
bokuaka had more moments than solely 5 moments as op states and to make it fair I'll be removing bokuaka main moments this would include: iddle fleeting thought, we are the protagonists, give me your 120%.
It's important to note that most of bokuaka's main moments are found in Fukurodani's respective match. However if we remove these 3 pivotal moments than it still manages to disprove they had only 5 moments because bokuaka had a severe number of moments prior to this which would include the following:
a. Training camp arc: naturally bokuaka's introduction, bokuto doing a killer spike and immediately choosing to ask akaashi if he saw it, and of course the most well known moment of bokuto receiving an emo mode and alaashi not only knowing how to solve it but also that he knows bokuto's weaknesses, instills it in his mind
b. Post Training camp arc: albeit briefly, bokuto and akaashi were shown to which bokuto swears that he's been praise and akaashi brushes it off. despite being a brief moment, it shows alone that bokuaka hang out together in lunch or they are each other's company
c. Land vs Sky: it's been a while since I watched this so my apologies if my memory is rusty but I remember nekoma'a attempts of shutting bokuto down to which akaashi noticed + motivated bokuto
d. Nationals arc: this one naturally has the most but to simplify and at least show they had moments would be the little interactions they had throughout karasuno's matches, "THAT'S OUR TSUKI" "He's not ours Bokuto-san", akaashi being worried for bokuto and asking him to go back into the hotel due to the flu only for bokuto to bring it up again later on meaning he remembers akaashi's words, and naturally the entirety of the mujinazaka match that showed their backstories, established firther that bokuto cares about akaashi just as much and is attentive of him and the growth of their characters not solely as a pair but as individuals
With this, tell me then, did bokuaka only have just 5 moments? Even if you take away the moments bokuaka are most known for, there's still a SEVERE number of moments the two of them shared.
And dont get me started on timeskip because that's for the next point-
"bokuto never mentioned that man out of highschool?"
To put it simply, a good portion of the timeskip arc was the msby vs adlers match, this includes bokuto's appearance who mainly is in the story AT THE START OF THE MATCH. Meaning, there wasn't a window of opportunity for bokuto to talk about akaashi because Furudate-sensei had him and his main focus already at the match, there wasn't any slice of life tidbit as both teams went straight into the match after the bathroom confrontation. It would be very out of place if bokuto mentioned akaashi in the middle of a pretty intense match/it wouldnt have made sense for bokuto just randomly bring up akaashi while he's spiking during the match.
bokuto has in fact made a reference to akaashi during the match/post highschool. When hinata and atsumu unleash a killer spike against the Adlers, bokuto shouted "the first strike is always the most lethal!" (or something similar, I forgot the exact quote :'DD) to which is a nod and referencr to the EXACT same thing akaashi said during the inarizaki match. Not only this but mind you that bokuto shouted this WITH akaashi in two very DIFFERENT places. It implies that bokuto still remembers akaashi or references him and the things they tell each other all the way from highschool
the ultimate evidence is of course the post match because bokuto quite literally meets akaashi again when he gets interviewed. how does bokuto react? big smile on his face and invites akaashi to a meat date later on (I don't even mean to write this in a romantic context because the fact that bokuto wanted to hang out and spend time with akaashi in and of itself shows that akaashi is still relevant and important in his life)
There's so much more evidence to simply say that op's tweet is wrong but it would make this post severely long. Simply, it's one thing to choose, disrespect even, another person's ship but it's another to simply discard canon in the hopes of proving another ship is better.
Bokuaka are so much more than what they're iconic moments dictate them for, I mentioned it once but I'll say it again: the fact that they're not even childhood friends or in different years yet still grounded in a dynamic of trust and respect that carries to the years is impressive and just shows why they're a very beloved ship in the community in the first place.

in need of fanfic/book recs from ya <3
ooooooh okay idk what genre of book or fandom/ship fic you want so here are my general recent favorites! i'm not gonna give a summary, just a small note/review with my thoughts, so ur gonna have to google the books and click the ao3 links--my apologies but this post was getting way too long lmfao
real life books!
gideon the ninth / the locked tomb series by tamsyn muir: i'm really working my way through this series and i loooooove it. the characters make me crazy and every turn in the plot has me screaming a little. there's been a lot of deranged texts to irls about this one.
under the whispering door by t.j. klune: this book DID make me cry. it's a really well woven story about love for your family and your friends and death and finding satisfaction and fulfillment in life (and death) and moving forward. HIGHLY recommend his other book (the house on the cerulean sea) as well!! i read that one first and it's a really gorgeous, satsifying read.
the shell collector by anthony doerr: this is a short story collection technically but i loooooove it. each story individually is really beautifully done and i absolutely LOVE his writing style. i think i take a lot of inspiration from him for my own writing!
on earth we're briefly gorgeous by ocean vuong: top books that, like, make yourself feel seen. another author/poet that i feel i can attribute a lot of inspiration for my style and love of words to in general.
sharks in the rivers by ada limĂłn: poetry collection! but one of my all time favorite poetry collections and i can't let this go unnamed. i absolutely ADORE ada limĂłn (you may know her from "the great blue heron of dunbar road" or "instructions on not giving up", which floats around tumblr pretty regularly). i think i first read this collection for class but it genuinely changed something in me. i actually have a tattoo based on these poems <3
post-colonial love poem by natalie diaz: another poetry collection but this one, like, fucked me up. it's woven together as a collection in an absolutely breathtaking way, but each poem also stands alone really beautifully.
fics - haikyuu!!
a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam by swampdragons (iwaoi, 6911 words): i read this a bit ago and really loved it, though it was also really emotionally difficult for me to personally get through--one of those fics that really drives the emotions home so deeply that it hurts to keep going. part of that might just be my own personal connection to the topic. idk. but either way it's ABSOLUTELY worth it.
The Benefits of Patience by Moami (iwaoi, 3363 words): this one's silly and funny and so much more lighthearted than the prev rec lmfao. it's like. healthy but messy but established but not established but a real relationship but an almost relationship to be iwaoi <3333
The Way He Looks At You by roobtheboob (iwaoi, 3805 words): i think i read too much iwaoi. but this one's really cute i PROMISE. i like the kyoutani POV idea a lot and i think the way kyoutani is written overall is really well done, particularly in the team dynamic and his respect for iwaizumi.
The years shall run like rabbits by ladyoflalaland (ushiten, 7292 words): obsessed w this fic. ushijima's mother is written out to be a REALLY interesting character and her strained relationship with ushijima is fascinating. the passage of time of it all......man.
fics - other fandoms
"Normal" by OnigiriCat4Ever (fruits basket, kyohru, 7140 words): this one's a really cute post-canon character study of sorts and i really love it. i love how the 7yo hajime is written and his relationship with kyo is really sweet.
The act of loving in return by kindokja (bllk, ryusae, 2809 words): this one's both funny and heartwrenching and sweet and painful all at once. beautiful, necessary mix in a fic. i like it a lot.
turn your face (towards the sun) by youareoldfatherwilliam (atla, gen, 5813 words): im normal about fics abt the chit sang and the 41st, in case u were curious!
that's all i got for now? i literally just went through my most recent bookmarks and cherry picked some special highlights lol. feel free to let me know if you want anything more specific!!!!! u already know i loooooove giving recommendations<3

key: name | author | word count, ★ = favorite

IWAOI
to be first, to be best | kittebasu | 26.4k | ★
╰┈ them moving in together and the little tidbits of roommate life! this is so amazing oh my gosh, the characterization and subtle hinting is so very well-written. and it captures the dynamic of their relationship perfectly! also focuses on oikawa a bit about how he needs to be loved, and the person who gives him that unconditional love is iwaizumi!!!
the courtship ritual of the hercules beetle | kittebasu | 66.3k | ★
╰┈➤ oh my god where do i even start with this one? it's a very long, dragged out slowburn and has all my favorites: pining, fluff and angst. it's about them growing apart after high school and trying to fix their relationship + address their unresolved feelings. again, the subtle hints kittebasu drops in their writing is absolutely gorgeous, you can truly feel the emotion of the characters through the tiny details they add in.
in defense of our overgrown garden | carafin | 2.5k | ★
╰┈➤ i love this little one-shot, it's humorous and quite charming to read. told through our beloved ushiwaka's pov as well, so that's a bonus for me. basically iwaoi are in an established relationship, ushiwaka is the annoyed but polite neighbor, and it makes for a really chaotic time. if you're looking for something casual to read to pass the time, go for this.
chasing paper suns | carafin | 10.2k | ★
╰┈➤ i swear on my gay little heart, this had me completely speechless while and after reading. i had to sit there for a while to digest the mind-blowing piece of art i just read. writing is drop-dead gorgeous, characterization is on-point, writing and word choices are stunning. it's about them growing apart (yes, again, you might have noticed what angst i like by now) when oikawa makes it into the national volleyball team and iwaizumi doesn't, and how they seem to be going downhill and everything seems to be lost when oikawa just— breaks, and the only person who sees through it is his beloved iwa-chan. i won't spoil anymore but go read this, it deserves to be put on display in a museum.
mint | tothemoon | 18.8k
╰┈➤ this has extremely fancy word choices, it's more like reading a poetry book discussing the feelings of iwaizumi and oikawa. anyway the writing is quite good, give this a try if you love iwaoi and prose.
KAGEHINA
In Transit | Mysecretfanmoments | 4.7k | ★
╰┈➤ this was the very first fanfic i ever read on ao3, and what got me hooked! it's just kagehina being adorable, awkward volleyball dorks and filled to the brom with fluff! the writing really shines as it's in hinata's pov, and the author does a wonderful job letting their true characters show. like, they both don't have any experience, but they're willing to work stuff out. not ooc at all and a wonderful read, it had me grinning from ear to ear.
spoiled | buu | 2.3k | ★
╰┈➤ warning: tooth-rottimg fluff ahead! honestly though, this is an established relationship fic where they just started dating, and kageyama is very gruff but the sweetest ever. read this if you're in need of heart-melting, cute fanfics!
cute | buu | 4.1k
╰┈➤ i love how kageyama is portrayed through hinata's eyes!!! (and yes, i do think kageyama can be cute too.) there's also something similar called "hot", by the same author, where kageyama thinks hinata is hot, and i just adore the contrast! because when you look at kagehina, you'd think that kageyama is the hot, sexy, domineering one and hinata is a cute baby, but these two fics showed the opposite and i was pleasantly surprised at how much i enjoyed them! i think "hot" has some s3xual content though :p
professional announcements | emleewrites | 4.4k
╰┈➤ this is a cute slice of life fanfiction, where kageyama and hinata are actually married but haven't told anyone, so everyone thinks they're having an affair! it's got a domestic fluff sorta vibe to it, and is great for a lazy morning in when you wanna read something that doesn't require big-brain thinking!
sunburst | carafin | 4k | ★
╰┈➤ i'm not sure if this counts as kagehina, but it's just so wonderful i had to recommend it. it's actually a genfic with some kagehina at the end, about hinata growing up and seeing the beauty in his teammates, and what they symbolize for the team, etc etc. very eloquently written!
~
and that's it! i'm lumityland on ao3 as well, so feel free to check out my bookmarks for the fics i haven't mentioned! (and drop me a kudos if you feel like it >w<)

Throughout the manga i noticed that mafuyu has not tried to comfort uenoyama at his lowest like yeah i understand he is still grieving for yuki but the fact that its always uenoyama that puts the effort between the two, but never mafuyu doing the returning effort, its a shame kizu lets ue's character arc be pushed aside in favor of a dead character and the fact that the manga ended is just 🫠
yeah kizu writes ueno as a pet, ornamment or nanny for mafuyu, she is always babying him like the fandom I would never forget when ueno's insecurities were in page and very obvious and suddenly the given fandom that prides themselves for reading "a complex" bl manga were acting obtuse and everyone was calling him names because mafuyu was sad for yuki again and then kizu never again touched upon it and totally dismissed his feelings and character, she only uses ueno as mafuyu's nany and guide but you would never see him behaving like a lover or mafuyu trying to do something for him, it's always ue's crazy for mafuyu but never mafuyu trying in the relationship to understand ue, the only time ue asked for something mafuyu completely rejected him and then went on to ignore him even when ue was trying to communicate with him that's why I'm expecting nothing for the sequel it's very obvious in what direction she is going again but I'm still stuck here for ritsuka, he deserves so much better 😭
the fact that her writing got worse it's such a shame because her iwaoi and kuroko doujinshis are so good but that could be because the characters are already established, and she only needs to spin them in a story.
