"Oi, Sya!" Iwaizumi called, peeking his head into her classroom, eyes scanning the room for her.

"Ah, Haj! What's up?" she asked as she walked up to meet him at the doorway.

"Mom says that she wants you to come over for dinner again since your parents are away for business."

"Aw, your mom is always so nice to me," Sya smiled as she clapped her hands, "Tell her I'll be there!"

Iwaizumi nodded as he turned to find Oikawa, who was walking down the hallway, not bothering to stop and wait for his friend.

"Hey, you idiot!" Iwaizumi yelled to him, "I told you to wait for me-"

Sya giggled as she watched the two of them bicker, turning back to head back to her seat.

"Ooh," her friend teased, "He definitely likes youuuu~~"

Sya rolled her eyes, "Oh please, Mae, I've just known him for, I don't know, 14 years?? We're just good friends! Stop with that already!" She huffed and added, "And besides, how would you even be able to tell from just that?"

Mae grinned, "Uhhhh, best friend instinct?"

"Sure, sure... whatever you say," sighed Sya.

Aleesha walked in, "What are you guys talking about?"

"Nothing," "Iwa likes Sya!" they answered simultaneously.

Aleesha nodded slowly, "I can see that..."

Mae cheered as Sya wailed, "Not you too, Alee! How many times do I have to say that we're just friends!"

"Sureee," they teased, smiling.

Meanwhile, as Iwaizumi and Oikawa were returning to their classroom, Oikawa looked over at Iwaizumi.

"Sooo..." he said, with his hands behind his head, "How long are you planning to keep it a secret?"

"Shut up, Crappykawa. Everything's fine the way it is, I don't want anything to change," Iwaizumi muttered, looking away.

Oikawa sighed dramatically before smiling mischievously, "Then, can I ask her out?"

Iwaizumi's snapped to look at him, "You like her?!"

Oikawa shrugged, "I mean, I wouldn't mind if it was her..."

Iwaizumi's eyes darkened as he growled, "Don't play around, Oikawa. This is her feelings that you're talking about."

"Wahh, scary~ Don't worry Iwa-chan, I would never treat people that way!" Oikawa said innocently, his face then turning serious, "But Iwa-chan, what if someone else takes her away from you?"

Iwaizumi stared at his friend, "If someone else took her away from me? Well as long as she's happy..."

It was Oikawa's turn to stare, "You're telling me that you'd be okay if someone took her from you? Iwa-chan, that can't do! I'm telling you as your dear best friend, but you need to confess as soon as possible! What if someone does take her? And you never get the chance to tell her how you feel? How are you going to feel then, huh? What if you regret it for the rest of your life?!"

Iwaizumi burst out laughing, "You thought too hard on this, Crappykawa. As long as I can be her friend, I don't care if she likes me back or not."

Oikawa sighed, "Iwa-chan..."

After lunch, the teacher for Sya's next class walked in, clapping his hands to get the students' attention.

"Okay class, I know this is sudden but we have a new transfer student!" he said before turning to the door, waving his hand to signal the student to come in, "This is L/N E/N. L/N-san, why don't you introduce yourself to the class?"

E/N nodded and looked to the class, eyes wandering throughout the room, glancing at each face. "Hello, I'm L/N E/N and I transferred here from Hokkaido. And uh... I look forward to being your classmate, thank you very much." Bowing slightly when they finished, E/N noticed Sya, who was whispering and giggling with Mae and Alee, and smirked.

The teacher looked around the room, muttering to himself, "Ehhh, now where is an empty desk?"

E/N pointed to the desk behind Sya, "Ah, sensei, there's an empty desk behind that girl over there!"

"Oh, good eye, L/N-san! You may go sit over there."

As E/N made their way to the desk, the teacher turned to the board and started to write today's lesson on it.

Before sitting down, they held out their hand to Sya and whispered, "Hello, it's nice to meet you," to which she let them shake her hand and smiled, "It's nice to meet you too!"

A couple days have passed when it has grown increasingly obvious how determined E/N was on going out with Sya, and Iwaizumi was being a sulking mess. He and Oikawa were walking through the hallways when they heard some other students whispering to each other as they watched E/N try yet again to gain Sya's attention.

Oikawa looked over at Iwaizumi. "I told you..." he whispered, "It was bound to end up like this, and sooner or later, you might lose her entirely..."

Iwaizumi glared at him, "Shut it, Crappykawa."

Cheers erupted suddenly and Iwaizumi's eyes widened.

"Sya finally said yes! They're going to the movies together!" he heard them excitedly whisper. Watching E/N pumping their fist and doing a little victory dance, Iwaizumi's eyes narrowed.

That day as Iwaizumi, Oikawa, and Sya were walking home together, Oikawa out front, skipping ahead of Iwaizumi and Sya, who walked side by side behind him.

"Hey, Sya..." Iwaizumi said, watching Oikawa's back as it moved further and further ahead..

Sya looked at him, “Yeah?”

“Heard you’re going on a date with E/N?”

She smiled, “Yep…”

"Do you... do you like them?"

"Maybe...? I think so."

Iwaizumi nodded, "I'm happy for you, Sya."

Smiling, she hummed, and they continued walking side by side.

(Oikawa turned back and whined, "You guys walk too slowww, hurry uppp!")

Weeks have passed but Sya and E/N were still as popular as they were weeks ago. Girls would swoon and squeal, saying how they wanted a relationship like theirs.

But little did they know... (dun dun DUNNNN)

Iwaizumi was walking down the stairs, carrying a stack of boxes that was needed to be put in the art room, when he overheard E/N talking and laughing about something with their group of friends. He shrugged, paying them no mind, until these words left their mouth:

"Oh yeah, Sya? Nah dude, she was easyyy! Like it took me only 4 days to get her to say yes. I pity her so much... we're about to go to high school and she's never even been in a relationship before?" they laughed. (This was inspired by some anime scene. I'm sorry I do not remember which anime it was though... It is taking everything in my power to not punt this person to the sun right now.)

Rage bubbled in his stomach.

Iwaizumi Hajime was absolutely livid.

He dropped the boxes on the stairs and walked over the spilled contents. He proceeded to push through the group and grabbed E/N by the collar, "What did you just say, you bastard?"

E/N scoffed, "And who are you?"

"Does that even matter? I dare you to say what you just said again. I dare you."

"What? That I pity Sya? That asking her out was really just a joke and I thought it would be funny?" E/N grabbed Iwaizumi's wrist and grinned manically, "What are you gonna do, huh?!"

Iwaizumi growled, "You're about to find out..." Raising his hand, he closed it into a fist and let it crash against E/N's jaw and face. Repeatedly.

He could barely register the sound of the receding footsteps of E/N's friends. And when they returned, they had brought 3 teachers, 3 LARGE teachers mind you, with them to hold him back.

One of the teachers stepped in between Iwaizumi and E/N as the other two grabbed onto his arms and pulled him back and way from E/N. Iwaizumi ignored their scoldings as they dragged him to the staff room, the boxes he was asked to carry to the art room forgotton.

News travel pretty fast in middle school and soon everyone knew that Iwaizumi had beaten up E/N. Why he did, they weren't quite sure yet.

After suffering long lectures and having to call his parents so that they could discuss his punishment after school, Iwaizumi was dismissed by the teachers to go back to his classroom. He was holding the paper he was to write the apology on as he trudged back, hoping that class was about to start soon so that he wouldn't have to answer any questions.

Unfortunately, it was still lunch time.

When he arrived, he noticed Sya waiting at his desk. Oikawa, Mae, and Aleesha were in the corner, watching him.

"Sya..." he whispered softly.

"Iwaizumi."

He flinched.

"So you beat up E/N?"

He opened his mouth to reply, but decided on nodding instead.

"Why?"

Iwaizumi stayed silent, turning his head away to keep himself from looking at her face.

"Why?" she repeated.

"I overheard them saying bad things..." he murmured, still looking away.

Sya sputtered, "Okay? That doesn't mean-"

"About you, Sya! About you!" he said, turning to look at her.

Her face twisted in shock, "What-"

They stood there, watching each other, when Sya broke the silence.

"Haj... that still doesn't mean you can just beat them up."

"What should have I done then?! Huh!? Tell me, what should I have done?!"

"You could've just ignored him and told me instead! You're risking getting yourself expelled!" She shouted, voice continuing to rise, "You know what that means, right?!"

Iwaizumi pinched the bridge of his nose, struggling to keep his voice from cracking. "But I like you, Sya. I like you so damn much. So when I heard them saying all these things about you, you think I could've just ignored them?! That I could've just kept walking?!"

Gasps filled the room; four of them being the loudest.

Sya's voice shook, "Haj... What? Why me? No, this is just a joke, right? You're joking, right?"

Iwaizumi looked at her with sad eyes, a hand gripping at the cloth that covered his chest, "Why would I joke about this? When I know my heart beats solely for you, how could I possibly make a joke about this?"

Sya covered her mouth with a hand and rushed out of the room, Mae and Alee running behind to follow.

Oikawa walked over to comfort Iwaizumi, but he just smacked the hand away and walked out.

(The class just all staring at each other like, "Y'all heard that too, right?")

It's been several days since the incident, and Sya had been avoiding him like her life depended on it.

At least until one Saturday.

Iwaizumi was lying in bed and staring up at his ceiling when he heard knocking on the front door.

He wasn't expecting anybody, and because his parents weren't home to open the door instead, he decided to just ignore it. He closed his eyes when he heard knocking again, but it was much louder than before. He grumbled as he rolled off the bed and to the front door. The person was continuing to knock when he snapped, "I'm coming, I'm coming! Quit your knocking!"

(Thankfully, the knocking stopped.)

Opening the door, Iwaizumi blinked in surprise.

"Sya... what uh... what brings you here?"

"I broke up with them."

"Sorry?"

"I broke up with them," she repeated.

"I heard you the first time. I meant, why are you telling me this?"

"I realized something this past week..."

Iwaizumi stared at her, a sliver of hope forming in his heart, "And that was...?" he murmured.

She took in a breath, "I... I realized that... we could work... I think. I'd be happy if it was you. I trust you, after all. And I want you to ask me... Is that okay?"

Iwaizumi's lips broke out in a wide smile, "You... wait really?! I... oh my gosh, what do I even... Are you sure?"

She smiled back and nodded.

"I want to hug you right now, can I hug you right now?"

"Wrong question, Haj~" she smiled.

"Sya..." he breathed, "Would you be my girlfriend?"

She nodded and laughed, "Yes! And you can hug me now!"

Iwaizumi reached for her elbows and pulled her to his chest, moving one hand to the back of her head and the other on the small of her back.

"God, you don't know how badly I've been wanting to hug you..."

Sya smiled against his chest, "Well now, you can hug me like this whenever you want..."

chapter 8; right side of my neck

You entered osamu’s apartment stomach empty and ready to be filled, “hey yn you’re lucky you got here just in time” he says with a light laugh and opens the door fully to let you in “ugh i’m starving thank you for cooking your so amazing” you say taking off your shoes and heading to the kitchen, as you and osamu sit down eating he asks “so ive been meaning to ask” he says looking up at you questionably “yeah what’s going on?” you say stuffing your mouth with rice oblivious to anything “so i’m sure you know but atsumu asked me for your number and i just wanted to see if he’s made any moves or anything on you” he responds. You choke on your rice in shock almost “no all he’s asked me for is some help on an assignment that i did last semester” you responded sorta sad at the fact atsumu has yet to make a move on you “well that’s good. Listen yn im not doing this to gatekeep you from my brother or anything but he’s just not in a good place for a relationship and i would hate to see either side get hurt. I care about you both and after seeing atsumu get cheated on by sydney and you not being token seriously by iwaizumi i just wouldn’t want to see you guys destroy each other.” he says bluntly, which has you quite taken aback because you hear quite little of this side of osamu that is serious and cares a lot but what can you do when you already feel some type of way for his brother. Nothing but sit in silence and respect what osamu has to say…or so that’s what you feel like right now. “i understand osamu you really care for your brother and you’re letting him go through his phase right now, and you care for me and you just don’t want to see me end up in that phase too.” you say sincerely, maybe it was time to put your feelings aside before they get bigger “and i’m not saying you guys can’t be friends, i’d think it would be good for you both just don’t get caught up in what he’s doing is all i ask” he says looking at you and then the food. “i guess my amazing personality needs to be shared with the other twin too” you say with a small giggle trying to easy the mood. As you both finish your lunch and osamu sends you with left overs for kiyoko, on your walk home your mind can’t help but drift off to atsumu and ushijima wondering what to do.

now as you lay in your bed ready to go to sleep you can’t help but think maybe it would be best to just try to be friends with atsumu, yet something makes you wonder how it would be like if you were more. Even just a little bit more than friends. Then your mind wanders off to ushijima and that situation you truly don’t know what to do, so you put it off besides tomorrow night you have to go to the art gallery with kiyoko and everyone else. You’re moving on to better distractions.
