Gotham Characthers Favorite Book Growing Up:
DISCLAIMERS:
I just did one of thoses about the Batkids. It was full of love and care. This one has love and care but also is kindda shitposty because have you seen Gotham??!! There's no way anyone can fully take those bozos seriusly.
Also: it's Gotham only. I'm not fitting other versions of the characthers. Or my answers would mostly differ (I do have a list of them for my fannon rogues). The only characther with the same book in all versions is that loser Jervis and he isn't even here cause I'm not one to state the obvius.
-> Oswald: A collection of Grim Fairy Tales. Gertrude used to read it to him every ninght until he was fourteen and complained enough. He loved the vegenfull ways the villans suffered and dreamed about having his own fairy tale prince. He kept the book with him and cares a lot for it. He used to read it for Martin tho he always skipped Cinderela for "some reason".
Alternativally the Holy Bibble, but only the tale of the children making fun of the bald man and being eaten by a bear. Gertrude used to think Oswald was a good boy because he liked reading the bible, Oswald just wanted to summon a bear to eat his bullies. When he realised it wound't work he just pushed one of them down the stairs, blamed the other and proceeded to be very disapointed with God for forcing him to do all the work.
-> Edward: The Gray Ghost comics, I don't care if they aren't mentioned the gray ghost is a cannon media in all batman related things in my head IDC. Ed was the comic book nerd who would complain of other kids for having fun imagining scenarios because it wasn't cannon and the power scale didn't fit. He read other things, but the comics were his favorite thing ever.
Adult Ed straigh up lies about it. He always says his favorite book as a kid was the full Les Miserables book for no reason but to show off. He once told he read it in the original french (not even a modernized one) at age nine. Somehow people belive him.
-> Zsasz: He liked the American Girl books. He still does. Sometimes he just takes an american girl doll book to work and enjoy the glory of people confusedly whatching him read. He tried to make Oswald read them, Oswald was not pleased (he secretly read them anyway, he aproves). He also likes Goosebumps
-> Ivvy: Remeber when I said that this headcannons are Gotham only? It was a lie. All versions of Poison Ivvy have The Secret Garden as they favorite kid book. Though this Ivvy only read it after she moved with Oswald.
-> Jonathan: Peter Pan, when his mother was alive she would read it to him as it was the only childrem's book they had. After she died, when he was six, his dad only letted him read scientific studies on fear and Animal Farm for some reason. He developed a hate for Animal Farm. Zsasz introduced him to Goosebumps. He was pleased. (He is the only version of Jonathan Crane to not have Sleepy Hollow as the answer.)
-> Jerome: he can't read. Jon tried to teach him once using Oswald's version of Peter Pan. Jerome ate the book. Literally. Crane cried. Oswald screamed than realized it was one of the books from his father collection and promptly passed out.
-> Jim: There's a book series that fits well here. I promised myself I would not use it in any of my headcannons as a self-love act. So I will say the Chronicles of Narnia. He never got any of the sybolism, but he really liked the sword figth scenes. His favorite characther was Susan and he cried over the injustice she suffered at the end and tbh me too, budy, me too.
-> Bullock: Anne of Green Gables. He loved that book and still does, he cried a lot reading it as a child. He considers it still to be the best thing he ever read. It might be true.
As an adult Harvey just loves emotional trashy romance, but he will not admit it. Once after being catched by Jim reading Twilight he somehow convinced Gordon he was iliterated and never read a book on his life. It took a looong time to Jim to realize Harvey was lying and could indeed read, a loong time.
-> Lee: A Series of Unfortunate Events. She found the book series very inspiring as a kid, it teached her that the word wasn't black and white and that sometimes people had to go to tortuous ways to do good.
-> Barbara: The Baby-Sisters Club, it was the only book series chosed by her and not by her parents and so automatically it was her favorite. She sometimes compare people to the girls. She also presented the series to Selina so they both could gossip about the characthers like they were real people. Besides being a fun activity it made both Oswald and Jim feel like they were missing some vital information somehow. They later turned it into a code.
-> Thabita: she never had a favorite book series. She read a bit of everything as a kid but while she likes them she never loved them. Her brother was obcessed with some book series about a magical boy but she found them lame. Maybe a volume of the Discworld saga, probably Men at Arms.
-> Butch: Diary of a Wimpy Kid. He is sure that as a kid Oswald was a lot like Greg Heffley and he hates the fact he thinks that.
