I can't get this whole piece to show. But it is made of me as all of my paintings are. At my last art show a woman came who was an art student. She had a series of questions for me - about certain painters and certain techniques - most of which I was not familiar. Finally, exasperated, she exclaimed, Well Don't You Want to KNOW??? This was a big moment for me. I realized not only did I not care to know, more so, I did not feel bad about myself for telling her so. No. I don't want to know I said. I spent the first forty or so years of my life trying to fit SOME IDEA of who I was supposed to be and what I was supposed to be. I don't want to do this anymore. And I don't desire to carry it into my painting trying to get "right" some technique or whatever. Painting for me is about discovering ME. With each painting, more of ME shows up. Sometimes it's pretty. And sometimes it's not. It is the greatest act of courage, this Creativity. This willingness, every time, to NOT KNOW. And to Dive in ANY WAY. This painting found a lot of me today.
