Now here's an all new theory for where the procrastination comes from

Like the uni councilors thought of like generic selfhate insecurity or like spineless ppl pleasing (nope an anime cured me of that when I was 13 - thst sounded more like what that ladys own problems might be), fear or failure & wanting to spite my father, eveb that getting ahead through "talent" was an unfair advantage bad tainted and evil, or that "talent" meant being beholden and controlled by others (definitely somewhat right - we worked on that, it helped, the second guy was defs much much more helpful & compatible cause he focussed a lot more on strategies than wannabe-maternal pep talks) but there was always something else there that wasnt getting touched

In tje end I dont think I have talent and in any case what really matters is attitude toward "living the examined life" for example whst you do. What you notice.

Now I did notice that things get harder to do precisely because I actually want them(whereas a lot of ppl get distracted from stuff because they dont really want it) - at the same time I can totally function or pick up new habits in day to day life its not like I have some "hardware problem" like, say, ADHD or the like.

Like of course its some emotional knot it couldnt be anything else but I feel they didnt identify what kind of knot? Certainly not that first lady. If im trying to get clarity and you give me reassuring pep talks you just freak me out more for the love of god tell me whats happening. Nothing worse when a Doctor says "it will be over soon" rather than explain the procedure

Fear of/ distraction from wanting itself never really occured to me thats not a common stereotypical fear that ppl talk about.

Let me get this straight I never thought I was better than anyone I knew very well that I'm not. I thought of both those things as ways not to get bullied, maybe get somewhere where I feel that im in the right place.

If I look back at really breaking experiences it was times I really really wanted something and then I couldnt do it or some outside party stepped on my fingers. That Tori Amos Music Video where she escapes from a psycho killer's trunk and then the passerby's dont help her? That was my most favorite music video in the world for years maybe still is.

Like I was told I could maybe skip third grade and I poured all my energy and passion and strenght into that everything I had to do well, make friends with the new class i was so highly motivated I aced all the exams I felt so happy & fulfilled just being in thst flow state all the time... i wanted this more than anything. Maybe it was the first time I really wanted something beyond vague dreams or base desires. But the homeroom teacher hated my guts and put the kibosh on that; Probably because I was unwittingly repeating some of the artogant classist shit my father spouts without realizing how hurtful it is. my parents thought it wasnt worth going to the higher ups for that but having to essentially redo 4th grade in a crap school in the different town we moved to was one of the worst times of my life. Also I didnt find out that the teacher had hated me/acted in a petty way until years after I thought I just failed. That there was a possible place I could have belonged but turns out I really belong nowhere after all.

All my effort was for nothing. It was such a joy - i mean these days even getting code to work or solving math problems has that same joy - but all that effort and joy and wanting did was that... im tearing up and searching for the words to even process this tbh. I think I denied that joy, told myself that I was just a stupud kid thinking I was a special snowflake. It didnt even matter.

Rather than insist on staying up late to make sure my homework was done I just stopped caring and hardly did another piece of homework in my life just faking it on the spot or coasting through. It could have gone another way maybe if it werent for the bullies and my father the chief bully or if only I was more determined but it was like "okay I dont care anymore I just dont care" and I think thats stayed my default response to dissapointment to this day.

This TV show didnt turn out like I wanted? I dont care its just a tv show.

My father treated be with hatred all my life? Its okay I dont care about him and I dont want his love anyway.

Like there were other times when I thought I could be happy.

Like I really wanted to go to this boarding school for gifted kids. Again I thought maybe incorrectly that this would be a place where I can belong and not be bullied it was never about being better than anyone.

Again I wanted it I clamored and cried and made noise nonstop. Maybe I still hadnt wholly lost contact with willpower back then. I still thought of myself as strong willed.

And my father made me regret it. It was around the same time that mom briefly considered divorce maybe I was just the stress valve. Or he took it personally as wanting to get away from him. Duh he abused me of course I wanted away from him. He was such a suffocating control freak! Mom said yes first then he spoke to her and suddenly she followed everything he said. Thats when I really realized how emotionally manipulative was how abusive... i mean one of my first conscious memories of him is thinking "oh crap I will be just like cinderella" but he really laid it on so thick so transparently even a 10 year old could tell its manipulation. If you do this you dont love your mom. If you do this you dont love your siblings. If you dont obey me your mom will kill herself. No she wont you jerk even my 2 year old self could tell youre abusive.

The most cruel thing he did was briefly say yes. Again I got so happy. So invested. Just bending all I was towards that even though he bombarded me with abuse and mental torture.

And then on the day we were supposed to leave he said no youre not going.

Maybe I actually did say I didnt want to go because of one time he was doing this constant scientology type torture on me

That same reaction: "I dont want it I dont want anything so please please let me be"

Ppl think of bad childhoods as a game that you win if yoz turn 18 -or 28 maybe - without killing yourself. But its not. Every year you live it can take away from your potential. Every day less than you have to live it

He sure didnt let me have sucess with his overcontrol and abuse. Anything I was proud of he rules. When I graduated from school with a fairly good but not perfevt final score he humiliated me. When I turned 18 he humiliated me. Everything I did was a burden even just feeding and washing me. Hed give me unwanted white elephant gifts then bitch about how giving them to me ruined his life cause he had to work so muxh "Ingrate Ingrate Ingrate" Butch I never asked for anything I want nothing!

But as I had to eat I did in fact have to ask things of him and I hated it so much.

No wonder that I turned out afraid of wanting things eh?

Hed seen some poster when we went to see tje school I wanted to go to - not by the school by an individual student - about the history of abortion portrayed in a positive way or at least that was his official reason why I couldnt go. Again I had wanted something badly with all my being and again all my being availed nothing. Irrelevant like I didnt exist. All my screaming gone unheard.

And this is so silly cause im not a child anymore I have control and if I were to stop procrastinating I could have money and gave even more control.

I havent even spoken to him in years now hes no longer relevant. Its not about him its about thus bad pattern I picked up.

I like how this books handles it with the idea that certain experiences dont create the type but that it nakes you uniquely suceotible to certain kinds of hurt or certain misunderstandings.

Because with all this discourse about bad message free media ive really come to think that while it can and should be minimized its not possible to eradicate cause human mibds are so quicl so fallible to extract overgeneralizations and make it mean something abput themselves

Like an immature statistical learning model easily overtrained by noisy data.

Another time I was nearly happy was when I started looking for work, doing my thesis...

Same pattern I was engaged, happy to be engaged talking to ppl at both work and in the uni work group loving it all so much...

my life had started to feel meaningful again. And it had gotten to that point in part because of my ex-fiance. Yes the councelling heloed taking up meditation helped, getting high on morning glory that one time helped a whole lot got more self esteem from that than I ever got from my father.

But that all started because of my ex fiance.

He was an i tellectual type and he had a sense of purpose about him like hes a legendary character and everyone around him became legendary too. And he found me useful! Others had called me "walking dictionary" with mockery and scorn he called me his google and it meant love and admiration. Maybe I got a bit of an ego trip off of tjat but I also really stupidly dumbtastically loved him I bragged of him to anyobe who listened everything he did seemed fascinating abd interesting and meaningful, but also I just loved the sweet gentle warmth of being next to him in the morning. Once again I was happy and everything was joyful even when it was hard, I felt strong and meaningful and useful and I let myself openly want things.

And then it all blew up. Worse yet i was so mistaken abozt him it really shook my confidence in my own judgement or any sense of clarity. I was si confused during the fucking breakup like I hadnt been since I left my father's house.

Google hah! More like his personal Alexa! It turns out he didnt respect or like me at all.

I couldnt even be sad or angry cause it was all my mistake. The one feeling I allowed - and even that took me weeks to identify - is dissapointment. Heavy leaden dissapointment i didnt even kniw that was a feeling you could feel so strongly. I didnt even do anything wrong you have to open yourself to have love. He could habe choosen to love me he just simply didnt. He probably thought he did but he wouldnt evebn do something as simple as not make fun of my voice or clean when I am sick.

Once he started putting me in the "wife" role he just became unable to see me. His loss really cause I think he wanted to keep me from all those annoying texts and email he had the nerve to write.

By all means I was right to trust but also right to leave later but still my sense of certainty and purpose and meaning was totally shaken. He did the sort of romantic stuff I didnt think was real. I knew I loved him when we had this conversation about water on mars. He got me the perfect books for my birthday! He said I was pretty and a genius and looked just like an actress. He got me this titanic esque heart pendant with stars. We were stuck at midnight in a train station that one time and he pulled out a picnic rug two plastic glasses and a shampain bottle. It never worked out but he said he might take me to see the LHC! I really thought we would be buried in the same hole folks!. He had read that same steven Hawkings book that I loved. One of the rather few books he actually read as I would find. Sigh.

And I fell right back into that same old pattern. Dont care about anything dont want anything it would be stuoid unrealistic and silly to want.

When I first came to uni I also had this feeling of hapiness and belongingness and wanting, I was putting in an effort, talking to ppl more.. and when things went wrong the slightest bit I pulled by hand back from that like from an open flame.

And here I am years later most the sucess or contact I get is comments on my fanfictions.

I thought I was doing that, or drawing, because its Stakes/Evaluation-free (going by the fear of failure theory) or because at least with the ffs gratification/payoff for effort is immediate compared to original stuff or uni work. Its a nice little niche at least.

I mean I do care about it its not "just" distraction but maybe ive been profaning it in that way... and so etimes I dont even do that and go for full unadulterated undebatable distraction; Line to 7 I guess. Tje only reason I spoke face to face to anyone else than the delivery guy this week is that I had some doctors appointments.

But not its distraction from stuff Im too lazy to do or even from pressure like I always thought. But from wanting things.

So the original fiction went great while it was a distraction from school not so much when its one of the things I most want and actually have the time to do it.

Even thought thats the most practiced skill I have that I never stopped working on since I was 10. 🤦‍♀️

I mean they already explained that its basically like meditation. Or weeds. Or popup ads. Youve got to click them away as they pop up.

I always told myself thst I didnt have to be happy... and thats not even untrue actually but it would sure be neat to be happy again one of these days.

hello!! sorry for the late reply, i wanted to give a really thorough reply so i put it off till now :B

1. why did i do it?

tbh i never saw myself as “going into education”, i personally see tesol as a separate thing to education as a whole (altho u could say tesol is a part of education or wtv but i dunno…feels wrong to say “im in education” bc i should be more invested in this if i want to say i am) but a lot of what i say comes from my experience in tesol so its gonna be very tesol-centric but i’ll try to be general where i can…but i went into tesol bc i volunteered for a programme one of my lecturers started up at uni, where linguistics students could volunteer to teach english to refugees living in the uk and i really liked seeing them improve, bc they really needed/wanted to get better at english…..so i did a teaching certification just before i graduated in the hopes i could do something similar in the future…….i guess cos if i was gonna get a job, i’d rather be helping people than helping a company make tons of money (altho i’ll get into this bit later)

after my first week at my current job, i googled ‘am i a bad teacher’ and ‘how to know if u r a bad teacher’ and u know what….i struggle to believe this myself but im going to reiterate to you….if u r worried about not being good enough, then u r probably NOT a bad mentor!!! it makes sense cause if u think u r already good enough, then u prob wont listen to advice/feedback and attribute problems to ur students/environment/etc. but i think this worry can help you if u use it to take feedback and become a better mentor! BUT also…i think u gotta know when to draw the line between good feedback and unfair criticism…….so have some confidence in yourself! i try to tell myself that i can only try my best, and act on feedback bc at the end of the day, we are all human. i dont know why we need to show people that as mentors/educators/teachers we are perfect infallible beings, we’ll make mistakes but as long as we admit to those and learn from them then i think its ok (dunno abt you but the teachers i got along with the least when i was at school were the ones who never listened to what i had to say and always thought they were rite)…the perfect teacher is a Myth

2. as for tips for studying education…for me wrt tesol, i found that u can be a fanatic for theory but crumble in the classroom…but its also good to at least have basic knowledge of it. but dont expect to be completely prepared for what happens in the classroom just by reading a book. also, u are ur own greatest repository (?) im assuming u urself have been in the education system for some time (pls correct me if im wrong), and i think those experiences can help!! they’ve helped me at least bc i always think abt the techniques my teachers used and try to use those in the classroom…yeah i dont really hv any good studying tips bc im not the greatest student haha im just coasting thru my postgrad cert bc my lecturers at this university are not that great at actually teaching imo (how ironic…maybe its just me) also!!!! a lot of stuff, u will learn when u actually teach!!! i wouldnt worry too much about the masters, there will be useful stuff to learn for sure, but u wont know until u actually get out there in an actual classroom.

ALSO!!! this is a tesol thing but i think it might apply to education as well, but the money. the money. personally i would hv rather chosen a job focused on helping ppl as opposed to helping a company make profit but tesol is a Business. TESOL IS A BUSINESS (u can try to be the best teacher u wanna be ie. care abt a students overall holistic development blah blah but if they wanna just pass the ielts.....u give them that)! just had a recent wake-up call recently abt this but i also rmb in 2nd or 3rd yr of undergrad really thinking abt the effect tesol has on ppl and its been downhill for me since then……im still in tesol but i find myself thinking these days that its not going to be for the long term

Need to vent

Ps: this is long and I'm on mobile so I cant add a "read more" divider. Just scroll thru it real fast thanks.

So I'm a recent graduate and I've been feeling and thinking about a lot of things. I feel like I've just sprinted through 3 years to achieve my degree, and that has been my goal the whole time. So now that I've achieved it... what next?? All I know is that I need to secure a job but hahaha this is where I start worrying.

I feel like I DONT KNOW SHIT. I dont know anything about the real world and wtf have I learned in uni? No fucking idea. Second, I fucked up in uni by not getting an internship. I tried applying but it was extremely competitive (got none), applied for part time jobs (went for some interviews, got none) so I told myself to focus on my studies cause I cant be failing! Because as an international student one subject costs about $4000 hahahfuck. Basically I have jack shit to show for on my resume, I would say i have decent grades... and small sections of previous part time jobs which counts as work experience... but other than that zilch :/ like i know im not good enough and i just think what's the point of applying if I'm going to fail anyway??

Another thing is now that I'm back in my home country for a break, I have to make a decision on whether to stay OR apply for a work visa back to Sydney which would be valid for 2 years. The thing is: to apply for this visa I gotta do it within 6 months of my graduation (which is by june), and I have to be in Sydney while applying it (also there's a hefty fee ofc oof). I feel like at this point and from advice I've received from relatives is to try something new that you wouldn't have done otherwise, just do it ya know. So if I follow that advice, I feel like I should go back to sydney, apply jobs there and gain work experience there for 2 years . Sounds dandy right?

bUT what if I dont get a job? I'mma be realistic here: fresh grad with less than impressionable resumes are gonna have a hard time landing a full time job. not to mention employers favor citizens and permanent residents over immigrants because of Visa and paperwork BS. From what ive read some ppl take 8 months ++ to get one. If that happens, that 2 year work visa is gonna be an absolute waste. And I feel so bad because my parents would be paying for that visa.

However what I'm gonna do for now is to send lots of resumes to employers in my home country and if I get a callback we'll see if I wanna stay or go. WHCIH BRINGS ME TO ANOTHER POINT: I FUCKING HATE JOB HUNTING. Why the fuck do I need to make an account on the employers website, craft my resume, peRSONALIZE THE COVER LETTER TO DIFF JOBS JUST TO HAVE HR GLANCED THRU THAT SHIT IN 2 MINS. I bet most of them don't even read the cover letter jFCCNJDJCKS. I absolutely hate writing that shit, it takes up SO MUCH of my time and just the whole process of job search takes like 5 hours. I'm also super meticulous about what I write and I'll make sure everything is done nicely down to the fucjing font size. So that's probably it as well. I hope I'll get better at this once I start applying for more.

This whole thing wouldn't stress me so much if there wasnt a specific time limit that I need to make a decision by!!! If I wanna apply for that work visa I'd also have to take an additional English exam (it's ridiculous but dont fucking ask why). Ok so the visa application takes around 50 days to process, that means I have to be in sydney by April if I wanna apply for it (to get the results by june). Which means I need to make a decision by March. My dad advised me to apply locally, and if I do get a callback before march, I can decide if I wanna accept any job offers and stay, or apply for the Visa anyway. But lets be real, I don't think I can get offers by March lol. I just dont really know what I should do. I don't know what I want at all and I'm so frustrated at myself and at everyone. Make wrong choices they said, you'll learn from it. But what if the choices you make comes at the expense of your parents pocket?

I just feel like my life is shit, I'm getting so worried, anxious and stressed that I'm literally having butterflies.

51) Surgery: I’ve never had a surgery thank god. I’m super scared of needles (that’s why I don’t have tattoos) I think it’s a phobia, if I ever had to have a surgery it will be a disaster. Getting my blood drawn is the worse for me, I try to avoid it at all costs. Imagine if I had to get a IV? I’d die of fear. 52) Piercing: Again, needles involved so NOPE. Oh! I have my years pierced but it wasn’t my decision but my mum’s, I was a newborn, like weeks old. I don’t mind it though, I love to wear earrings, and if she didn’t do it I wouldn’t have the courage to do it. 53) Sport: Swimming, my grandma always insisted it was a must learn thing so she took us to take lessons from a pretty young age, I live in a river side city so it’s a life saving thing too. I’m used to being disappointed in life. I had to learn very early on that life is not fair. That hard working people don’t always reap the benefits. That even bad days are a blessing for those of us lucky enough to keep living to see them through. That some people breeze through life while others were born in shit creek.

I first looked into the CSU vet program in March 2014. The minimum GPA requirement for a graduate was just above what I had achieved for my double degree in Law/Arts. It stung because I had spent a year studying abroad at Washington State University and the lowest grade I achieved out of the 8 classes I took there was 89% (I got 95+% for the majority of those classes) and if I had achieved those same scores here in Australia, I would have had 8 High Distinctions (which require just 85% or higher) but because I only received credit for study, those HDs turned into passes. My GPA was therefore much lower than what I felt I had earned.

This meant that I had to start a new degree. Having already completed an undergraduate degree, I was no longer eligible for Centrelink. I did receive New Start (which I will be forever eternally grateful for) which meant that I had to have fortnightly appointments at Joblink, apply for a certain number of jobs and meet a bunch of other time consuming criteria. It made me feel like scum to have to get a handout. Every time I went in for an appointment, my self esteem managed to sink just a little bit lower. I worked at Furballz, knowing that it would look good on my application. I volunteered at the vets. I wanted to know if it was really the job for me before putting my heart into it. I started my certificate IV in vet nursing on top of all of this, so that I would learn some real skills and so that I could continue volunteering at the vet clinic.

At that time, TAFE was changing its policies/fees and could not tell me how much the vet nursing course would cost but they gave me an estimate. It looked like they would no longer be giving discounted prices to people on Centrelink. Open Colleges cost $5,000 for the same course (slightly less than the cost at TAFE) but it had way more flexibility. So I signed up for Open Colleges. A month later, TAFE released its new fees and policies. They had decided to continue with Centrelink discounts and the whole course would have cost me next to nothing had I gone with them. But it was too late to get a refund with Open Colleges and most of my Centrelink went to paying off that $5,000. I was still working as a volunteer at the vet clinic even though I was on the roster working the role of a nurse who they would otherwise have had to pay wages for.

The worst part was that Newstart required me to do 25 hours a week of approved activities. I was working for approximately 4 hours each morning at Furballz 4 days a week. That was 16 hours. The 8+ hours a week at the vets didn’t count because Newstart stipulated that volunteer work (at a business) couldn’t count because they wanted you to seek paid work. The hours I spent on the Open Colleges course didn’t count either because it was mostly self learning and the teachers at OC refuse to sign off on hours because they cannot personally verify them. And uni was difficult for the same reason (I was studying online but had to attend intensive schools). I was actively trying to find another job that would offer me more hours but no one wanted me. I told them I could work any day and any hours except Fridays (I had to continue my work experience at the vets for the vet nursing course). I had a couple of interviews but was never hired. That was a really low point for me. I honestly don’t think even Frankie realised how much I resented myself at that point.

It was finally September 2015 and my vet application for CSU was ready. It looked really good because I also had volunteered with the RSPCA (and had been vice-president of the branch), had volunteered halter training alpacas and showed them (including the grand champion). Plus I had a lot of experience with large animals growing up on the farm. But I didn’t make it to the interview stage because my GPA was too low. Again. By the slightest of margins. 0.1. I was pretty devastated but decided to look on the bright side and planned to do something amazing with the year ahead. So I went to Africa and volunteered with animals there. It was incredible and added even more to my application.

I had finally started to get paid at the vet clinic. Toward the end of the year, I could finally get by without Newstart! It felt great to have that burden off my back even though I was getting slightly less money each fortnight and my prescription medication tripled in price without a healthcare card. Still, it seemed like things were looking up.

Then came August 2016. The applications were finally opened again. I agonised over the questions, wanting to give the best but most honest answers. I did not want to jeopardise my chances after putting so much into it. I had changed degrees at uni and had managed to obtain a 7.0 GPA. That is the highest possible score. The wait to find out if I had an interview was agonising. I called CSU multiple times during the week that interview offers were given. They kept saying that we would all be informed either way by Friday afternoon. I was at work that afternoon but kept my phone in my pocket. My heart raced the entire time. It had been racing that whole week and the week before that. I could not sleep. I just kept checking to see if that email had arrived. By 4.30pm, Frankie came into work with a frappe for me and asked if I knew anything yet. I anxiously asked if she could call them pretending to be me, to see what was up. I held up the vein of a dog so a vet could take blood. Then I checked my phone. Still nothing. I put on a load of laundry and then heard a little buzz. It was 5.02pm and I had finally received my email informing me of my interview time. It turns out that they had emailed me several days earlier but their system had some issue with sending emails to gmail and hotmail addresses (eg. my primary and secondary emails). The only reason it came through at all was because of Frankie’s phone call.

I honestly could not believe that I had an interview. I felt like the hard part was over and now I was almost guaranteed a spot. I fulfilled every criteria and then some - I had made sure of it over the past 3 years. I had practised what I would say almost every day for the past 2 years. I had so much to talk about in just twenty minutes. I felt confident which is rare for me.

Then came more waiting. I just wanted to do my interview! I was excited!

But the interview seemed to be over too quickly (according to Frankie, I was actually in there longer than 20 minutes). I started to feel nervous. There was so much that I had not even talked about. I didn’t tell them about going along to the greyhounds with Emma when she was the volunteer vet at the Armidale races. I didn’t talk very much about all the things I did at the vet clinic. I didn’t even talk about Africa! But it was all on my application and I could tell by the panels comments that they had read mine right before I walked in. I had simply answered their questions:

Why do you want to be a vet? Why do you want to study at CSU? What are your favourite subjects? What community work have you done? Talk about a current, controversial issue involving animals in Australia and what you think should be done. Tell us about a procedure you have performed involving animals, preferably large animals. If you moved to a remote area to work as a vet and did not know anyone, how would you go about meeting new people?

I felt like I had done well but not as good as I could have done. All that I could do was wait. And wait. And wait.

I haven’t been able to sleep properly. I thought about the questions and wished they had done it differently. I personally would have had each interviewee handle an animal. I think it would have told them a lot more about their capabilities than any of those questions. I also wondered about the different panels of judges. There were 4 panels running at once. What if I had been interviewed by a different panel? Would the ‘nicer’ person on panel A have given me a 10 instead of a 9 for a certain answer I gave? Would the ‘harder’ person of panel B given me a 4 instead of a 3?

But that there was nothing I could do. I had tried my best and it was done.

I had checked my UAC offers 50 times before the offers were released. I wanted to make sure there wasn’t a problem with my log in. It always said “You have not received an offer for undergraduate study.”

The offers were to be released at 7.30am on 5 January.I told myself that even though I probably deserved to get in, that I wouldn’t be chosen. I waited until 7.32am to check my offer, just in case the time on my computer was slightly fast.

“You have not received an offer for undergraduate study.”

I didn’t feel sad. I didn’t feel surprised.

I thought I would cry and be upset but I guess I wasn’t lying when I left the interview not expecting to get in. It has slowly sunk in and now I just feel frustrated and angry. How could I have stuffed up the interview that badly? Were there really 60 candidates that were really better than me? I honestly doubt it. I have gone over the criteria and there really isn’t anything I could improve. So I guess it all came down to those twenty minutes where I somehow just didn’t make the cut.

It’s hard not to feel like a failure right now. I have never worked for anything so hard before. Maybe I should not have tried to follow my dreams. Maybe I should not have had such an ambitious goal. All of the wonderful people that I have surrounded myself with have been trying to lift me up. It was starting to work but now I feel like all of those horrible things I tell myself were the things I should have listened to.

I keep thinking about what one of the CSU vet students I’ve met told me. That on her first day, they had been really straightforward and told them all of the realities about how difficult the job of a vet is. It scared several of them so much that they left the course there and then. I wish I could take their place.

As a final kick in the guts (yep, this is a full on a self-pity, whinge-fest now!) I received a letter from Centrelink saying that I owe them over $2,000 from 2013-14. Apparently everyone has been getting them. I need to pay it by 13 January. Dunno where they think I’ll get the money from. Guess I’ll have to go back on Newstart now.

My plan is to study Bachelor of Veterinary Technology through CSU. I haven’t been offered a place in the course yet. I got in last year so hopefully I will get in this time. Otherwise I’m officially out of ideas. There is still a chance I may receive an offer for vet science on 18 January but I’m not holding my breath.

I will still apply for vet next year because fuck em, I want to prove them wrong. Even though I have written an essay wallowing in self pity (that I kind of hope no one actually reads even though I’m posting it on the bloody internet) I still have fight in me. I’ve gotten the self-pity out (for now) and I’m ready to prove that panel of judges wrong. I’m not a quitter. I will continue to work toward my goal that just keeps tickling at my fingertips. And if nothing else, I will be the best vet when I do finally get there because even if they didn’t think I was the best candidate, no one will be more grateful for the opportunity than me.

A couple days ago I was driving to a doctors appointment, I was rushing and very nervous. I got to a road that was closed where I had to back up. I looked behind me and saw no cars. Hi, I am interested in people's views of the following: A friends daughter is 17 and last Friday passed her driving test to much family celebration. She went out driving to see her friends, grandparents, and to get some experience. On the Monday the family tried to get insurance quotes but hadn't made a decision on which one to go with until Tuesday. Tuesday lunch she went out with three girlfriends and lost control of her car. No-one was seriously hurt but there are some stiff necks, bumps and bruises. She rolled the car after losing control over a hump back bridge. No other vehicles were involved but her own car is written off. The Police were called and paramedics. She is still on Provisional Insurance as the call hadn't been made to change the insurance, mum and dad were just moving money about so they can pay. The Police say she wasn't speeding just lacked experience and was taken by surprise on the road in question in the rain. So the questions for them are: 1. What is the legal position? Neither parent is concerned about making an insurance claim or anything like that. It was one of those awful moments in life and they are not interested in the value of the car just the welfare of the girls. 2. What does she have to present to the Police - I think they said that she would have to present her licence? 3. Do the parents have to tell the insurance company if they don't intend to claim? They are very honest people but don't want to do anything that would unnecessarily impact their daughters ability to move forward. 4. What should they do going forward with her? They would like to get her over the situation by putting her on the road again as they believe that she is a safe driver and has just been very unlucky. The vehicle in front of me merge to left as if he was waiting for someone to come outside. He didn't have no signal light or hazards lights on. So I merge to the right pass him so the guy must didn't see me so he hit my right front end bumper, headlight, and door. So I didn't have my insurance in the car so I got a ticket and the other guy had a ticket because he didn't have insurance. On the police report it said he had a left sgnal light to turn in is driveway. Just to remind you that the vehicle doesn't belong to the driver and he had a NY license. My insurance liability told that he couldn't contact the other guy to see if he had insurance and send him letters. So he told he's going to put it's not at fault but I have to pay for a $500 deductible. But WHY?????? if he didn't look at the cars but he's going to basis on paper work.
