I remembered to take pics today! Sort of. Only after i had put away my machines and stuff...

Here are (most) of my edwardian undergarments

(i am wearing modern clothes under bcs the internet is weird)

Chemise, bustle pad, underbust corset, petticoat

I still need to make a corset cover someday, ive just been using a second thin chemise over all this:

I used these vintage buttons on the cuffs. I wanted some more security but ran out of buttons so i used small snaps:

Also put one on the collar so i could try it on. I think the placket at the back of the blouse is a little ugly and larger than ive seen in extant garments but i forgot to adjust the pattern for my broad shoulders and need the extra width for comfort.

I tried on the blouse and skirt together:

I may need to loosen the waistband of the skirt, the corset is a bit bulkier than i thought itd be. Also the blouse is just stuffed into the skirt and currently only has one closure on at the collar so it looks a little bit disproportionate. The belt/sash will help smooth everything out so i dont look like im drowning in voile.

I might go without the bustle pad during the final shoot because i think it gives too much volume in the waist/hip area for edwardian tastes. Its from an 1890s pattern, so the silhouette is a bit out of date. I should probably try the skirt on without the pad before extending the waistband though.

Im pretty happy with how the sleeves turned out! I have some vintage nottingham lace i bought on etsy from penelope textiles that i was going to add to another project. I think ill sew some different laces together and add it to the cuffs to elongate them a bit. Since this dress is supposed to be from roughly 1905, i want the sleeves to look as they wouldve in that time. The photos ive seen mostly feature large ruffles at the ends of elbow-length sleeves but i dont think ill be likely to wear ruffles very often. Ive also seen tighter cuffs that extend from the elbow to mid-forearm or from the elbow to wrist. I think the elbow-length sleeves are a feature of afternoon dresses but i could be wrong. Maybe that was just day dresses? Not sure.

Im also not sure if i want to get gloves/a hat/parasol for this project. On one hand, it would look really cool for the video. On the other hand, it sounds quite expensive and i doubt ill wear it again. I dont want to buy things i wont use and create waste, theres enough of that in fashion. I have a pink 1900s parasol that i might cover with black fabric, but idk.

There isnt much left to do! Im gonna make a list here so i have it written somewhere:

-sew snaps onto blouse

-finish blouse hem

-attatch lace cuffs

-press pleats on sash/belt

-order synthetic whalebones

-add bones, hook/bars to belt

This is just the sewing tasks though, i need to edit the video clips and record audio. I have no idea how to do any of this. I just downloaded davinci video editor so hopefully i can figure it out. The only experience i have with video making/editing was in 3rd grade on ipads on the imovie app. Ive just been binge watching bernadette banner videos bcs i love her video style.

Honestly I started thinking about it as a joke, but Ive been thinking about them all fucking day now bro its making me go nuts. I looove my lil rarepair. Im gonna use this ask as an excuse to ramble a bit about them…

- Theyre the epitome of femme x butch lesbian love. Kate is very masculine, dresses grungy, baggy clothes, video games, barely showers. Meanwhile Nina is very feminine, loves to dress up, takes care of her appearance, scene kid

- She drags her gross lil girlfriend EVERYWHERE and loves to show her off. Kate hates crowds, hates people, hates cities and public places. But she does it just to make Nina happy

- Nina will make sure Kates eating, drinking water, oh she worries about her wellbeing so much. They do basic hygiene together like brushing their teeth and showering, it makes things easier on Kate since shes been so long without ever caring about any of that stuff

- Nina loves to take care of Kate, and Kate loves to take care of her little ball of sunshine.

- Yknow the “cool stoic x crazy happy girl” trope? Thats them

- Theyre drive around in some beat up pick up truck singing alone to whatever emo pop punk song Nina chooses

- Kate holds Ninas bags when they go shopping

- And Nina walks around at night freely with her guard dog privileges (Kate would bite the head off of anyone who hurts her)

- When Kate comes back from missions bloody and bruised, Nina patches her up… And tries to hide how hot she thinks it is…

- Nina just loves weird freaks, and Kate is the perfect example of this

- I just cant imagine Nina happy with some guy. Kate is the perfect balance for her, they both help each other grow in so many ways, they’d both understand and be there for each other

- And most importantly, they’d be each others best friends. Kate would listen to aaallll Ninas gossip, and even share some of her own. Nina would absolutely adore watching Kate play her old horror games, and ask a bunch of questions about them that Kate has all the answers to

- Theyd explore abandoned buildings together, binge watch movies, hangout at the park late at night, play Minecraft together (Kate would fight off the mobs while Nina picks flowers)

- Very underrated ship I will do Gods work and bring it to light in the fandom 🔥

Thank you fable smp

i have probably stated this a million times in a million different ways to a million different people, but i love the fable smp.

I staretd watching last august, right before my school year started. My sister got me into it, so that she could have someone to talk about her funky blockmen with. Shes left the fandom now, lingers around but not a lot. Im still here. When i started watching it i was- god i was OBSESSED i watched ten videos a DAY, all at 2x speed. i did nothing but watch. and when i couldnt be watching i would be tlaking about it, to my friends, my sister, my parents, anyone who would listen really. I binged all the seasons so quickly- i caught up in October, near my birthday. It was right after Unlocked, to. And the obsession has not died down. i spen the day before the finale on the verge tears not ready to say goodbye. I think i am now. Not say goodbye to the fandom- Im still going to be here!! i have so much two write and create, im going to be here for a long time, still talking about- but im ready to say goodbye to the show, make peace with the fact that its over, and that my favourite characters are happy. To the cast, thank you all so much for the fable smp. Ive become so deeply attached to everyone's characters. Thank you fo creating them, creating this world. it means so much to me. i dont think i can express just how much fable has come to mean to me, how deeply i care. Its so clear how much effort youve all put in- and just , everyones acting in that last stream was *phenomenal* ill never forget the experience of watching it live, and every other stream ive been able to catch. Thank you all. Thank you so much for this story

To the fandom, thank you. thank you for all youve created. god the aamzing art and fanfics and songs and theories and god knows what else, just everyone in this fandom is insaneky talented and i love how much everyone else cares about fable, too. I have never really had a fandom that ive interacted with before this one. I started using tumblr ages ago but my posts would just hover on my blog, uninteracted. Now i wake up to people liking my art, my fics my aus. thank you all for creating a space where i an share what i make, and love doing it. This series would not feel the same if not for all of you, so thank you alll, those who know me and those who dont. Just know that i love everything that has come from this fandom, and how this fandom has received me in kind.

I have cried i have laughed and i have loved this smp more than anything else in that ive read/watched. all these characters will live in my heart, and mind, for as long as i live, probably. Its time for their story to end, and i couldnt think of a better ending then the one we got

So I got bored and decided to binge rewatch some deltarune theory videos and now I'm writing this i guess. I dont hang out too much in the deltarune tumblr tags so idk how much of this is spewing well agreed ideas already but...

Its interesting to me how susie and noelle have this sort of order v chaos thing in terms of their narrative roles. (This is looking like a long post so ill be kind and add a cut here)

Susie is like the character that drills the "your choices dont matter" concept into you (the player - if im referring to kris in this post ill use their name). Not only is she the first to say it but the main times where you make a choice and it doesnt matter are because theyre stopped by susie. Iirc, the only power you have over susie in her segments in both chapters are in puzzle solving (something that actively aids her in her goal). During both the lancer battle and the ferris wheel scene you cannot change what happens. You just have to sit there and watch. Not only that, but susie also can straight up override your decisions in moments like when you try and decide who to go with at the crossroads in chapter 2. You also cannot stop Susie fighting at the start of chapter 1. Some of the few choices that you do make (how you design the thrash machine in chapter 1, speaking to onion san in chapter 1 in hometown) are specifically done when susie isnt around to stop you.

Susie, intentionally or not, forces some order upon the story. She helps force the beads down their designated path, or whatever that metaphor in the hospital is.

However, in chapter 2, susie, by her own choice, leaves for a while and its our new party member who allows us to make a big choice that will matter. Snowgrave. Ive seen people point out before that the snowgrave route really parallels noelles history with game bugs (shown mainly through the sweepstakes blog posts) as the route feels like a game break. In fact it is a game break, considering you are supposed to not have any meaningful choices and do the normal route. It sort of makes it seem like Noelle herself facillitated the route. Not only that, but Noelle (likely due to insecurities in her relationship with Kris) lets you make a lot of choices when you are with her. (I think it could even been argued noelles presence allows you to override susies tendency to stop you making choices in the cutscene at the start of chapter 2).

So Noelle allows you to make the choices, allows the chaos. Susie keeps you on a set road, enforces the order.

This is a fun frame on their relationship. If you told me there was 2 characters, one of which was a girl who was a known rulebreaker and bully and the others was a girl who was top of her class and the mayors daughter, and asked me to tell you which one was chaos and which one was order, i would get it wrong! (It also seems like a good framework to throw some tragedy upon their relationship but lets not think about that rn)

But now if you are anything like me you will be thinking "where do ralsei and kris (as our other 2 established main characters) fall onto this chaos v order paradigm we have established?"

Lets start with kris, as their position feels more quantifiable. Kris does what you tell them. By our established parameters that should make them more chaos leaning. However, Kris will actively stop you from affecting how each chapter ends. This suggests that they want some sort of order, or control over you but will allow you most of the time to make decisions, and allow chaos.

This suggests Kris is order leaning but chaos permitting.

Ralsei, meanwhile, i dont think sits on the paradigm as we have established it. He wants the prophecy to be fulfilled but he wants us to make changes that lead there. He gets upset when Kris is unable to make choices but firmly believes we must fulfill the prophecy. What ralsei does and doesnt know about Kris or us is vague and unknown, and therefore by extension how he feels about Kris and us is vague and unknown.

So is he more order - forcing us to do specific things and stopping us from having meaningful choices in the story? Not really... But then is he more chaos - allowing us to make big changes? In a sort of apathetic, not really bothered way maybe. All in all, i think Ralsei falls outside of the scale, as he has a very unique relationship with us and Kris.

Generally, choices and chaos and order are all very big themes in deltarune. So i think its interesting to link the two together like this.

study dates and going to cafes with my sister. i actually do everything with my sister idk how i'd function without her but study dates at a cafe are extra special since we're both coffee lovers. we also love discovering local coffee shops.

listening to aurora. might be my fave artist of all time. been a huge fan of her since 2016. her songs are just soo dear to me and she also collaborated with one of my favorite games ever which was so surreal!! i'm not even over it yet.

i also started playing journey, a predecessor to the game i mentioned, and im just completely enchanted by it! i love when games are more of an experience rather than actual games lmao the game devs does a stellar job at visual storytelling, and their soundtracks are always fire. their games are my safe haven and huge inspiration. one of the reasons why i want to be a game artist soo bad;;;;<3

hanging out w my cousins. they're also my closest friends. we love having long talks with cold beer on a chilly night and thrifting together on a saturday afternoon.

Mike's Media Medley--August 2024

anyways, things i watched and played for the very first time in august 2024

movies (2024 releases)-- Longlegs, Cuckoo, Alien: Romulus, Dìdi

movies (non-2024 releases)--Judas and the Black Messiah (2021), Anatomy of a Fall (2023)

games: Rocket League (2015), Fields of Mistria (2024)

Alien: Romulus

so i have a few mixed feelings on this. first im gonna say my biggest issue is that some of the characters spoke in incredibly heavy cockney accents and i literally did not understand a single word they said. thankfully some of them are not around for long

second, this movie is VERY interested in reminding you of the alien franchise. hey, you liked this line from aliens? here it is. you recognize this guy right? look at his face for several minutes. do you remember ridley scott's 1979 masterpiece, alien? i do. i sure remember ridley scott's 1979 masterpiece, alien. speaking of, ian holm's character is here, and his face has been deepfaked and allegedly this is with permission from his family but just. the whole thing feels incredibly wrong to me.

third, this is the second movie i have seen cailee spaeny in ever and i am just like. not feeling it. i think she had a better performance in Civil War but also her character in Romulus was way smarter and more likeable, by virtue of the fact that she didn't have much in the way personality-wise for me to get annoyed at and was mostly just there to do a lot of competent alien fighting stuff. which is fine, whatever, normally this would be Okay for an action-horror film

HOWEVER, david jonsson just absolutely blew everyone out of the water acting-wise. honestly one of my favorite performances of the year. his whole character brought most of the emotional core to the movie which is why i think it's kind of a shame cailee's character didn't quite uphold her end of that emotional core but i do think in the end her going back for him was sweet.

the set design and effects were very good, and so was the camerawork and editing. i know i just expressed annoyance with the 'do you remember alien?'isms of the movie but the set design is VERY reminiscent of alien and that's a boon.

the sexual violence was way more overt here and it culminates in the only (non-jumpscare) moment in a horror movie ive experienced where a mostly-silent audience audibly gasps or goes 'what the FUCKKKKK'. if you know you know

the movie is like. midway between Okayish and Just Fine, Actually. might watch it with friends on an alien binge. david jonsson carried.

Anatomy of a Fall (2023)

i watched this with my mother, who was immensely frustrated by the conclusion of the movie but i really enjoyed it. i thought the whole idea of putting her character on trial because the only two options presented are 'murder' and 'suicide' and she was the only one in the house led to a lot of interesting introspection to be had. the child actor is one of the better one's i've seen (maybe even the best) and obviously sandra huller did great with such a subtle performance

i think generally the directing/editing were fine. good, even. they'd have to be with this movie being a slow burn. HOWEVER there were some parts that just felt weird and made me. laugh?? the kid discovering his father's body where they do that weird zoom-track shot made me legit laugh out loud because it felt like youtube video editing NWENFKJWNKJWN

also snoop is a good dog 10/10 for snoop

i DID like it but would probably not rewatch it as i think a big pull for this movie is the tension in whether or not she Did It, and knowing the conclusion i think would inhibit my ability to rewatch it even if i did greatly enjoy the character work

Cuckoo

i really truly did want to like cuckoo more than i did but i just kind of walked out going "that was okay"

this was the first time i'd seen hunter schafer in anything (except for the ballad of songbirds and snakes, but her character was really minor) and i thought she was fine. she acted decently, i just had a few more wishes from the script.

the entire atmosphere of the film, editing, directing, sound design, all of that is really good. the 'repeat' sequences are really chilling despite how simple they are in effect. most of my issues come from the script

i think, in some movies, not explaining much works really well in its favor, but with cuckoo which ends with the Main Guy heading the experiment as the villain, in his laboratory and at the hospital where the experiment is being held, with all these scientists with recordings of whats going on etc., it explains shockingly little about what's going on with the actual monster/aliens/mutants idk, which i would have greatly appreciated since the whole concept of them and their behaviors is like. Weird.

i did appreciate some of the moments between hunter's character and her little sister, especially that voice mail, but i do think that their development from estranged and awkward tense half-siblings to 'i'll die for you' at the end is kind of abrupt, would have appreciated seeing more of her sister as a real character throughout the movie.

the plot twist was cool though

overall, i think it's a good watch, it's not BAD by any means, i just wanted a bit more out of it. regardless, im glad to support movies like these at my local theater :p

i had to go to AMC to see this which sucked and i hated it

anyways. dìdi! i thought it was very unsatisfying in like, a satisfying way, existjng more as a snapshot of a real person's life in the early 2000s, and not as a story with like proper pay-off and all that. cuz like in a movie ur kind of expecting all these big dramatic moments to happen. his dad comes back. his grandma dies. he gets the girl. and some dramatic moments DO happen but not like big movie dramatic moments. its just a snapshot of a shithead kid's life and i loved that

like. the payoff to his whole deal with madi is just like. blocking her on AOL. there isnt like a big falling out with the skaters they just think he's kind of lame and also rude to his mom. there isnt really a huge fallout w fahad he just said something awkward and got phased out of the friend group. i found the whole thing worked really well for me but i would totally understand if it didn't work for a lot if people because yeah the MC is insufferable lmao, which is honestly the hardest part of watching the movie.

Judas and the Black Messiah (2021)

i would like to say first that although i am glad daniel kaluuya won his oscar for this lakeith stanfield absolutely shouldve gotten more recognition, he was the best part of the LA death note and he had such a presence in get out despite his minor role. and obviously he fucked so hard in Sorry To Bother You. so seeing him win for a movie that got this amount of buzz at the oscars wouldve made me super happy for him, but i love daniel kaluuya too and idk if i could pick between them for favorite performance of the movie.

anyways this is probably one of my favorite historical dramas i've ever seen. it is paced EXTREMELY well for something that could've gotten bogged down in trying to commit every piece of history to film as it could and while it definitely glosses over a lot of stuff / shortens the timeline of IRL events ie w the formation of the Rainbow Coalition, i think overall the movie does incredibly well portraying the tensions at the time and in between the characters themselves and god i hope hoover is rotting in hell

also speaking of Get Out. fuckign. Lil Rel Howerey made a cameo and between him Lakeith and Daniel it wouldve been a Get Oit reunion party NSIDNEIWNE

obviously go check it out if you haven't yet. good movie.

man i almost feel like i have to watch this movie again before i talk about it i feel like i had so much to say but i need a refresher NWIDJEK

the marketing for this movie was insane first of all. secondly, theres so much commitment to this like. wood aesthetic. so many shots are in buildings / hallways / rooms with lots of wood. speaking of shots this movie looks SO fucking good. i think if nothing else its a great atmosphere piece thats pretty to look at.

i would call it a thriller as opposed to a straight up horror and as someone who loves the Ring I wish it gave me more of those vibes, with the MC trying to solve this strange supernatural mystery on a time limit, trying to dig up dead things, but i thought that what it achieved was Perfectly Functional.

i honestly truly dont know what i think of this movie i need to watch it again. im sitting between a "it was alright" score and a "it was good" score i think
