Head tipped to one side. It was then and there, in the silence following Katherine staking a claim on her, that she realized she had never really challenged the elder vampire, and maybe it because she wanted to see what would happen or because she felt she could now— because she was stronger, faster, no longer a delicate, fragile human —but she entered Katherine's space with a gaze that was equal parts intrigued and challenging and a smirk that stretched across her face.

“Really?”  Although voice was as sweet as it could be, in the depths hid a tone that she knew big, bad Katherine Pierce would hear. She crosses her arms—then lifts her head defiantly whilst brows shoot upward at the same time.  “Who said that?” No hostility, all playfulness.

Going against a Mikaelson was not only useless, but stupid. “...Fine, go but—”  She maintained her stance, arms folded over her chest.  “...I'm going with you, no ifs, ands, or buts. Gripe if you need to, but you never know, I may end up useful.”

“I'm what? I didn't catch that.” That's a trap, do not repeat yourself, Stefan, says the glare that she was pointing in his direction. “Thank you, for man-splaining a sire bond to me... what's next, what it means to be a ripper?”

“It won't be, as long as I'm more useful alive than dead,” It's an assumption, mostly, based off of what she has learnt about Katherine through observation. “...and I am, or like I'm working on it.”

"Well, you wouldn't think so, because you're sired. Luckily she's not just making you do whatever she wants, whenever she wants. If it came down to it and she needed to sacrifice a pawn for her plans, she would, and it would probably be you. But none of that bothers you because you're sired."

When she's feeling particularly bored (or… you know, bitter), she 'plays' with (read: messes with) the townspeople, appearing before them or in the corner of their eyes and disappearing as they blink. Who's going to believe anyone who says they saw her, when she's supposedly dead? > is there someone (or even multiple someones) who rach enjoys going after the most?

Nathan Prescott's the first to find himself victim to Rachel's disappearing act—but over time, glimpses became full blown conversations and visits, because he has always known the truth about Rachel Amber, secrets she kept from even Chloe,  (e.g., the fact that she had become something of a drug mule for Frank Bowers and a relationship sparked between them at some point in time)  and he has always kept those secrets secret. Given that, she knows she can trust him with the truth about her mortality status, her whereabouts, etc., and on the off chance that he opens his mouth and says something he shouldn't, as cruel as it sounds, she knows nobody's going to give Nathan Prescott the time of day.

In my mind's eye, the above is why when Max confronts him in the diner dressed in Rachel's clothes, he automatically assumes she is Rachel. At that point in time, Rachel had been checking in on Nathan for months.

Her father, James, becomes a real and true victim to Rachel. She doesn't lay a finger on him— because as filled with hurt and anger as she is because of him, the care for her step-mother that lingers keeps herself from injuring him... in other words, she may not need him but someone (her step-mother) does —but drives him to insanity. She appears in mirrors and in windows in broad daylight, and in corners of the room when it's pitch black and the only one in the house is him. She whispers to him whilst he's asleep and whilst he's hunched over his laptop in his office, calling his name until he has to look around.

Her aim is to scare him, because she spent her entire life being scared of him.

Itty bitty, teeny tiny vampire verse headcanons --

Rachel leaves Arcadia Bay when Katherine (@malka-lisita, we love her 🫶) turns her—so she goes 'missing' still, but her body is never found, because there's not a body to find. In spite of this though, authorities give up on their search for her after a few months and declare her dead.

Occasionally, she will peek in on Arcadia Bay and the lives of the people she knew (her friends, etc.) from afar.

the blonde's steps into arcadia bay's cemetery were feather light, unfathomable to the human ear, and with them she brought herself an arms length away from her friend. intrigue shows in narrowed eyes, which she fixed on the back of her friend's head and from there, surveyed the rest of them.    “ is this place ever going to move on? ”    she questioned, effectively breaking the silence amongst the headstones. however ally remembered her, is how she appeared. not a day over eighteen yet at the same time there was a maturity about her.

because katherine was in mystic falls, she found herself in mystic falls too, heel to toe with katherine. pros (more like cons) of being sired. katherine had business and rachel was told to stay out of the way and she had. apparently that didn't keep her from crossing paths with one of two famed salvatores.

she knew who he was, even if only a little bit, but did he know who she was? whether he did or not, her best bet was to act casual. like a tourist.    “ halloween's not been in it's grave for a full day yet and the town's already decorating for christmas? you guys move fast. ”    she spoke, polite smile curving rounded lips.

Chloe's features, remolded by experiences, obstacles and most importantly, time, fortified what Rachel was aware of, and that was that the careless, unruly teen she left behind in that small, seaside town was a full-fledged adult now. To say she was awed would have been an understatement and she couldn't help but stare, eyes pooling with admiration and pride as they bounced from detail to detail, and before long, a singular corner of the once thespian's lips quirked upward. She shook her head.  “I was around, just... out of reach and eyesight,”  Replied the blonde nonchalantly with a half-assed shrug, as if that were an explanation as to why she left, or why she hadn't come back, or how was she here, living and breathing, when she was declared dead ten years ago and why while Chloe looked her age, did Rachel look as if she hadn't aged a day.

“Last I checked in on you, you and Max were going from state to state.”  Said matter-of-fact like,  “You ever make it to California?”  She asked with a quirked eyebrow, head tipping to one side as she awaited an answer. A decade might have passed, but she was still Rachel Amber, evading complicated but necessary conversation by honing in on small, useless talk.

Adapting to amplified everything, including emotions, beside unquenchable bloodthirst wasn't as difficult as re-establishing herself. She hadn't stopped to consider, acquiring a clean slate meant that in the new world she found herself in, where vampires, werewolves and witches co-existed, the name Rachel Amber would mean nothing—mostly.
