It used to be easier to write but that’s okay It used to be easier to see humanity but that’s okay It used to be easier to be empathetic but that’s okay It used to be easier to claim a mantle of innocence but that’s okay It used to be my norm to dodge truancy like I’d dodge anxiety attacks but that’s okay It used to be easier to display my elite vertical leap but that’s okay because it used to be harder to express myself to be happy to find purpose in suffering to deal with crippling depression to find the light after concussions and not have it sear into my brain to tell people my thoughts my feelings why I wouldn’t always communicate despite carrying more than most would imagine why often when the efforts I made didn’t make a difference I’d try to find meaning instead of reason to abandon it all It used to be harder for me to leave people alone who had or have no interest in being around me but it’s okay I suppose I could call it growing up though in honesty I’m reverting back to lesson I learned as an adolescent That should have told me how true my childhood rang especially considering so much of it was spent preparing for my older years It used to be easier to step outside of that but that’s okay #aaronglover #thingsmisterhustleusedtodo #writersofinstagram #writersofnewyork #nycpoet #nycpoetry #poetry #poem #poet #itusedtobe #writer #blackhistorymonth2020 https://www.instagram.com/p/B8fpGW9nRyh/?igshid=1xs16jaem7uls
