A few months back, I asked if it was okay to write using Clora and Seb. Finished the work - thought I'd lost it on my hard drive and a virus scan located it.

Not sure if it's sad or happy, but the basic premise of it is Clora getting frustrated/upset at Sebastian and Sebastian comforting her, Sebastian getting upset at a predicament Clora's in and Clora comforting him, and them both getting frustrated/upset and having to comfort each other.

If you'd rather I didn't post it, that's fine too, but just wanted to test the waters and double check that you'd be okay with it if I gifted it to you via AO3, or see if you wanted a sneak peak of it before posting it.

brainstorming is defs my fav part of the process and the most helpful part to me. just getting a blank document and writing stuff you want to happen without worrying about how it connects to the story, and then a lot of the times as i was doing that id just keep going and it would kinda tie itself together/id come up with a solution as i was writing / once the ideas kept flowing. so basically : TIMELINES AND OUTLINES I VERY MUCH RECOMMEND, but very low pressure and barebones ones. for example, this is what my outlines/brainstorming look like

its honestly just me talking to myself LMAO, and a lot of the time ill interject and be like "OH YEAH AND THEN THIS CAN HAPPEN" as the ideas come while im writing BAHAHA. its a super fun process and honestly nothing feels better than just getting hit with that flash of inspo, and since its all very low effort theres no pressure to actually write well and its just a chill fun time AND GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR OWN PROCESS / WRITING💖💖💖it can be difficult but HOPE U HAVE FUN TOO💖💖

1. analog squad: 9/10

I deeply regret not watching this one in 2023 when it was released bc it would've been my number one favorite show of that year ;_; it's such an original and touching show with one of my favorite tropes (found family) and some of the best characters I've ever seen. definitely already an all-time favorite and a comfort show for years to come <3

2. cooking crush: 8,5/10

y'all know how much I love offgun, and while this was no not me or theory of love, this show really brought me back to my early days of watching thai dramas and freaking out over any cute interaction on my screen & I love it for that! while this show has a lot of flaws, most of them are easily forgettable when faced with such great characters & one of the cutest relationships ever! I truly thought offgun's chemistry had reached its peak in not me but I was wrong, these two never cease to amaze me they really can play any role to perfection <3

3. ready set love: 8,5/10

this show really surprised with how pretty much flawless its execution is! it's hilarious but also deals with very deep & interesting topics well, and day might be one of my favorite female leads ever! a super solid show that is honestly gonna become a classic for me, I can feel it :)

4. love for love's sake: 8,5/10

this was a super sweet show that's very well done, I was dubitative of the plot at first but it really managed to pull me in & make it worth my while! one of the best kbls out there :)

5. the believers: 8,5/10

this is definitely one of the most innovative thai shows out there, dealing with a topic (religion) that I didn't think anyone would dare touch. the story had me hooked all 9 episodes & the acting performances were amazing, however I have to say this didn't pack as much of a punch as I expected it would. it's a very good show, but it stays a little surface level & doesn't explore its characters enough for me...

6. sing my crush: 7,5/10

this was very much adorable, however two things bothered me: 1) I didn't like the time jump from ep 1 to ep 2, I wish we could've seen the friendship between the characters developed more, and 2) I feel like them not revealing their feelings for each other felt a little forced & random. apart from that it's a very cute show!

7. intern in my heart: 7,5/10

this was a really enjoyable romantic comedy that I had a lot of fun in front of :) is it much more than that? not really. pretty basic but with charismatic performances that carried the show well!

8. perfect propose: 7,5/10

really sweet show that I wish was more developed & gave me more, but a good time nonetheless!

9. sukiyanen kedo do yaro ka: 7/10

this show got me, lost me then got me once again lol. I thought the chemistry for an established relationship was some of the best for a jbl, and the story was simple but endearing. but tbh something was kinda lacking for me, which made this ultimately very forgettable imo.

10. the outing: 7/10

I was SO looking forward to this show without much expectation but it still managed to disappoint me lol. the acting was very solid but there's too many characters that get introduced too late & I failed to really understand what the point or purpose of the show was. it seems to me as if this show took all of the worst points from remember 15 (the sex, the chaos, the betrayals & annoying characters), without the substance that remember 15 actually had. it's not a terrible show, and I was intrigued during it, but tbh it could've been so so much better.

11. love class season 2: 7/10

this had some of the strongest and most interesting ships I've seen in a kbl, however the writing & execution of the show was very frustrating. early on the characters barely get introduced & we struggle to understand how they're all linked together, leading to a lot of confusion on my part. it's sad bc it had a very solid story but bad execution imo :(

12. chaser game w: power harassment: 7/10

this had me very excited but sadly didn't deliver at all for me. the story is kinda all over the place & while the chemistry was really good and it's important to have japanese characters clearly labeled as lesbians, I found the acting kinda over the top as well... but it's a start for gl I guess 🥲

13. sahara sensei to toki-kun: 6/10

this is the kind of show that I managed to watch until the end... for whatever reason. but the age gap icked me out & I found that the main ship didn't have much chemistry. overall this story is very empty & didn't add anything for me, but I really liked the character of toki & would've loved to see him in a better show & ship.

so I'm gonna sort this by things that are like. in general abt him and things that might be useful for whatever ur writing.

general

Pickle (despite being labelled "The Idiot") is actually pretty resourceful, and very similair to Lightbulb in the sense that they both 'stumble' into solutions. For Pickle it's best seen in "Seas The Day", where he makes up a stupid plan in a second, however when he takes more than 10 seconds to think, he ends up with a plan that makes Paper really happy.

On that note, contrary to popular belief, he's very social! He can be seen numerous times hanging out with Soap and Cheesy, aside from the s1 contestants (tbf he's not been seen since Seas The Day. so.)

Even so, after S2, Pickle is honestly pretty reserved. He's seen having to build up the courage to talk about what's bothering him, and he's seen by himself throughout s2e7.

Because of this, when people actually take the time to talk or listen to him, he holds on tightly to it and listens to their advice.

He doesn't actually mind thinking about Taco when he decides to think or reminisce about her on his OWN. When it's brought up by someone else, he gets frustrated and upset about having to see or hear about her.

He gets excited very easily, but that's something very obvious about him. Its another thing that can actually be compared to Lightbulb

He seems to have issues trusting others after s1. This is also linked back to why he has so much trouble opening up, even to his closest friends.

He's also depressed!!!!! ougghagghhh my best friend ever :c

He does seem to like spending time with people. Eg. Seas The Day, The Complaint Desk comic, and the episode where he sends OJ, Bomb ans Salt off to get the tree for the team while he ans Taco hangout, when he plans picnics for both Taco and his girlfriend.

He is a SUCKERRRR for big romantic gestures. Big flirt apparently. Loves romantic things.

i headcanon that before the events of the game, pebbles and sig didnt get along super well, but it was more of a "haha teasing" kind of way. annoyances to lovers if you will. ragequit post-ingame-events is a lot more complex and would require both of them (though particularly sig) to work through a LOT of shit before an actual relationship could form or whatever. but my general idea for them is that sig and pebbles are kind of like, the babies of the local group. they're younger, their emotional AI is a lot more developed, and in terms of pebbles, painfully human to the point of self-sabotage. when they're feeling shitty, and just want to vent, they go to each other. that isnt to say that moon and suns dont do their best to help, but sig and pebbles understand how frustrating and honestly painful really, really feeling shit can be. moon and suns will often attempt to offer solutions (such as how suns doesn't go to comfort pebbles in the "bug" conversation from the game, they go to providing logical answers), whereas sig and pebbles will just let each other cry it out. there's less of a power dynamic between the two of them, sig is older but pebbles certainly doesn't respect her as much as he does suns, so its less..."embarrassing" to rant or break down to one another because their arent any expectations between them. this is partially how the rot au ends up happening lol

Sig has a billion nicknames for Pebbles, including: Pebbs, Pebbies, Peebs, "My grumpy little sunflower" (that one comes from the streamer au which is just. absolute chaos)

Sig is very touchy in general. He just. Casually puts a hand on Pebbles' waist, or rests her head against his shoulder, or gives him hugs as greetings, and Pebbles doesnt have to ASK her to! He hates asking for affection bc it makes him feel weak/vulnerable

Oh the bickering. The bickering is so cute. Sig pushes every single one of Pebbles' buttons and it is endlessly entertaining

They trust each other. A lot. Despite the teasing they've seen each other at their lowest, and neither poke fun at shit they know will truly hurt them

Fuck it I'm fairy tail posting. I feel like every year or two something will remind me of ft and forcibly drag me back in, and I always hate to bring it up bc I find the series as a whole very frustrating lmao. It's such a feast or famine with fairy tail, it has some really enticing aspects amidst a ton of egregious problems. Like I never made it past the grand magic games arc and I never intend to, beyond cherry picking some later chapters with my faves. And yet, I still like it, and I have a fic I'll be posting hopefully soonish anyway so whatever

Honestly, I think a major reason ft still finds a way to live rent free in my brain is that there is so much material to make headcanons about how magic works. The logistics of any kind of supernatural ability is my favorite part of world building, just conceptualizing every niche and irrelevant way that fantasy powers affect people. And on top of that, the most important magic is dragon based so maybe I never stood a chance. Dragons my beloved.

I have so many totally random ideas about like the physiology of dragon slayer magic and how various characters develop and adapt to different parts of their magic and such. And those add to all my headcanons about backstories and plots and the mostly obscure relationships I like. I will say that fairy tail's greatest genuine strength is its characters and platonic dynamics, which is definitely the main reason I'm attached to it.

I'm kinda debating making a long and scattered rundown of my thoughts bc I don't have the capacity to refine them all in fic or art, but I don't know if it'd be worth the work. For one thing, I can tell a good portion of my takes are super disjointed from the general tastes of the fandom. Zero appeal. Like I could ramble about the scenes that I believe would have benefitted from cannibalism, but I suspect no one wants that. I might do it anyway but who knows

5. Which route did you play through last? I saved Silver Snow for last, which worked out since the final map was the most difficult map for me to complete, even with my superstar New Game+ team of MVPs from previous runs. But it was also my favorite final boss theme from the ost, so...

8. What storyline threads should have had more development / been further explored? Hm, well every route has its strengths and weaknesses in the writing department. I think either Silver Snow or Crimson Flower could have used the most development.

SS feels like a rough draft, which meant that Verdant Wind, in following all the major story beats of SS but just like, better, felt like the finished draft, so if I had been in charge of writing I would have gone back and overhauled SS entirely, and made it completely unique (they could have made VW unique, but I feel it's strong as is, so SS needs to change).

I feel like the writers could have really leaned into the tragedy of Edelgard and Byleth falling out of trust, instead of the short and weird little scene we get at the start of the second arc after the timeskip, although this would require a lot more writing going into Edelgard for the first arc to make the player really care about her and feel the sting of betrayal more (for me, she came off as very cold in the first arc, which fits the general gist of her characterization, but when I'm losing approval points with her left and right I felt like, "girl what do you want from me" slight frustration rather than like, wondering about her mysterious secret bc even going in blind with my first run being Azure Moon, I figured out her role as Flame Emperor super quickly, so she wasn't mysterious so much as. Cold, and deeply untrusting--which is interesting characterization, but doesn't set up a betrayal plot twist very well).

Aside from really pushing for a more tragic overtone though, how I imagine potential rewrites varies bc there's a lot of room to do all sorts of things that I think could be interesting. What I personally think would be interesting and what like, a larger development team would think was feasible or interesting might be different. I would want to put more focus on Rhea and the history of Fodlan, maybe bring Sothis back into the picture and really dive into the world she knew before she had to heal it. I'd also want an entire arc talking about the demonic beasts and their history and the lore behind them, I am so curious about the monsters in 3H.

Alternatively if the writing didn't focus on the Nabatean characters, I think the writing should have really leaned in more to focus on the BE cast, since I feel like this is the most interesting potential arc for most of their character arcs, but they don't get to shine as much in SS due to having to share the narrative with the CoS characters.

As for Crimson Flower, I felt like the writers chickened out by trying to backpedal and make Edelgard morally grey instead of really leaning into her motives and ideologies that make her an interesting antagonist in all the other routes. Honestly aside from seeing all non-central characters undergo negative growth character arcs (watching the BL kids suffer in CF was SO fascinating for a lot of their characterizations), overall CF was the most boring route to me, ending with me wishing I could have defected to Rhea's side bc her spiral into madness seemed a hell of a lot more interesting than whatever Edelgard was doing.

I think the writers should have leaned in to making CF the "bad end" route, with lots of emphasis on all the bad things Edelgard was doing. I was prepared to play as a villain. Other games have made villain routes a thing, the fandom still would have been a toxic wasteland I'm sure, but at least the route would have been interesting. FE in general has a really hard time letting female villains be villains though, so I wasn't entirely surprised. Would love to see a FE female villain who's ruthless and unapologetically evil with no tragic backstory or mind control or justification, like how we see with Scarlet in FF7, but I know what FE is about so my hopes aren't high.

Also I feel like the Agarthans should have either been fully developed as villains, or cut entirely so Edelgard could have shone more brightly in her antagonist role. Especially since, as we see in Hopes, the writers really wanted to lean in more to making Edelgard morally grey, the Agarthans would have had to have so, so, so much more development to be the proper, potentially terrifying and horrific, villains they could have been.

30. What characters should have more support options and who should have been their support options? For Houses, I was actually pretty satisfied with the supports. Every character (sans Byleth) has about the same number of characters they can support with, give or take a few, so supports felt fairly balanced overall. I might have changed some of the supports to focus on different topics bc I feel there are some missed opportunities or vagueness that could have been written more precisely, but overall I'm happy w/ Houses.

Although if Rhea could've played a larger role, I think she should have had supports with various characters. Supports are where a lot of the characterization is stored, and we miss out on so much potential characterization for her as a result. I specifically think she would have gotten along famously with Mercedes and Annette, and I would pay money to see supports between her and Cyril.

Hopes on the other hand is another story, and this is mostly due to uh, many characters not being added into the playable roster (MY SON CYRIL I MISS YOU). If I had the full cast of characters I hoped would be playable (no pun intended), I would have wanted to see supports between Hanneman and Sylvain, since they took Sylvain's character in an interesting direction in Hopes, and I think the dynamic between the two would have also been fascinating. (Also imagine how chaotic supports between Hanneman and Monica could have been; guy who's been studying all his life, and girl with a genius memory).

Nadir and Judith should have been playable, and they should have gotten supports with each other too.

I also think Ignatz and Hubert should have had supports in the Scarlet Blaze route. Hubert compliments Ignatz's strategy the battle where you can recruit Ignatz, and that is just so rare for Hubert, that I was like huh, wonder what supports between these two would even look like. They also both want to ride pegasi so...yeah I've been thinking about the potential dynamics between those two ever since. They haunt me.

I also really, really wished Miklan lived through the events of Azure Gleam, bc his writing was so much more interesting in Hopes than in Houses, and I want to pull out a lawn chair and get a nice cup of tea so I can watch the Gautier skeleton closet get cleaned out in his hypothetical supports.

overview

boardland is a turn-based combat dice- board- game where you fight monsters. it's a pretty short game, i got through one run and credits rolling in 30~ minutes, but seems the monsters might be randomized for every playthrough? gonna check again just to be sure.

there's uh not really any story as far as i can tell, so let's just get to the

mechanics

combat takes place entirely on this board. you can upgrade it by using dice while on a tile, sometimes changing the base action of the tile (fire > attack, earth > defense, water > heal). it's got roguelite elements too so, it's what you'd expect, items and blessings. potions aren't too difficult to come by, and a playthrough is short enough that you can be liberal in using them

a player turn consists of you moving, then taking dice actions. you can only use multiple dice on a tile if they're in increasing order (2 > 3 > 4, for instance), otherwise, you have to move to use another action. you draw 5 dice every turn, and leftover dice are discarded. sometimes it seems you can use an action dice at the start of your turn immediately, but sometimes you can't..? i'm a bit confused but it might be dependent on whether you used an action last turn or not

now, by using a set number of dice, you can level up a base tile to upgrade it (its 3 dice for the first level up). this gives you bonus actions, and synergizes with the elemental dice you can find sometimes. this gives you a way to customize your board depending on your playstyle and build.

additionally, every other turn a random event occurs. you have to land on the tile to activate 'em. same goes with curses that enemies sometimes do. if something on the board only needs you to make contact with it, it'll say in the description (like enemy spawns)

the game punishes you for taking too long by giving most (if not all) enemies a passive that increases their stats every 10 turns. this did not become an issue for me (except for that one tedious round where i got to 10 turns because i kept messing up my actions)

you can get buffs and debuffs too. there was one where i was supposedly able to use two dice on one tile or smth, but it was either poorly worded or broken bc i could never proc it. there's a confusion debuff that sometimes makes you move backwards too. the main way to get debuffs on enemies is by using elemental dice on their corresponding tile

OH i completely missed the reroll mechanic, you can spend gold to reroll one of your dice, kinda handy, i suppose? gold is rarely used anyway

aesthetics

this game is pretty slow paced, not to say it can't get challenging, and while i'm more of a fan of faster games, i found this one to be relaxing to play. i'm gonna do one more run before finishing this up.

the music is extremely cozy. even when a bit frustrated, i couldn't find myself getting too worked up, i like it

i enjoy the artstyle as well, the monsters and the player character all have a soft and charming vibe about them (except that frog in berserk mode, pictured earlier, i like that too). very cute!

another gimmick fight, the reroll mechanic is especially useful here if you wanna fight more efficiently, especially since the opponent just sits there until the tiles get locked (i died bc i didn't realize my health was too low (oh, you can load up the autosave and retry, neat))

closing thoughts

i could honestly see myself spending a lot of time on a fully fleshed out adventure mode for this game. i'm super engaged by the mechanics, and with a bit more content there's room for a lot of strategy in this kind of game. different board lengths, branching paths, character skills.

i already enjoy board-based games a ton (stuff a la mario party or 100% orange juice) and also dice as cards in games (die in the dungeon, is the most recent and only example to come to mind (i haven't played library of ruina yet) i should write about that, i enjoyed the demo and i need the full game) so this game is very much my thing

if the game sounded like fun, give it a try, it is completely free

Genichiro Not Quite Headcanons But Close; plus a bit of the Fountainhead Palace

For the longest time I was convinced Genichiro’s bow was super glued to his back. Turns out I’m blind af and didn’t notice the cord wrapped around him to keep it there.

It’s even there both wearing his armor and not. Honestly I was just impressed that he even managed to get it to stay by sheer will. I also didn’t see his forehead scar and thought that was something people were making up but no, I just overlooked it completely bc his arms were much more fascinating to me. (His armor was really pretty too. Especially the cape, I loved the embroidery around it and kept getting distracted.)

To me his arms look quite small compared to the rest of his body, especially since he is trained in several different combat styles. It looks almost like large chunks of muscle have been burnt off by the lightning he uses. I don’t imagine he can feel much of his arms besides the pressure from the scars themselves, (which to my small amount of research is what severe burn scars feel like), though the pressure can get worse to a point where it feels constricting and painful. He probably doesn’t have very good function of them either, at least not for very fine motor functions and it probably takes a lot of effort and thought to get his arms to cooperate. Which I can imagine leads to a lot of frustration and an overall more snappy temper. No one likes the feeling of being inadequate or useless.

I don’t think Tomoe or any other of the Okami Warriors would have this problem because their extremities aren’t blackened like his. There’s something about the Okami Warriors that makes it to where they don’t get burn scars, probably due to being somewhat connected to the ‘big tree’ that I forgot the name of and just being connected to the Fountainhead Palace in general.

Also I don’t believe their skin was always blue or their faces were always sucked in like hyper dried raisins, it’s probably something to due with the ‘essence’, or whatever it’s called that the nobles started to crave. Maybe the nobles took the youth from them after Lord Takeru left and Priestess Yao was corrupted and couldn’t stop them/sway them from the heresy of it or find it in her to care as the centipede vibed with her spinal cords.

Fountainhead Palace Headcanons (plus Takeru and Tomoe)

The Okami Warriors are born from the water, like some type of bootleg jesus baby. Explaining the description of Tomoe’s eyes. They are amazing swimmers and can stay underwater for hours, though they cannot breathe underwater. Just big, strong lungs.

Eel liver is a common dish and anyone outside of the palace can barely stomach the slimy texture. Genichiro can eat it without an issue, mostly, Tomoe was overjoyed her student ate something from her homeland while Takeru still gagged. And Wolf… That boy ate raw rice. The amount of fucks that man gives is none. Wolf will eat anything that doesn’t eat him first, cooked or not, it is going to be eaten.

Cuju games/tournaments were very common before the place fell apart.

The Okami Warriors once had an oath to always protect youth, especially kids. This is influenced by that lady calling Wolf a ‘young man’ and saying the nobles craved his youth, putting a darker turn onto the palace as a whole.

Maybe when Lord Takeru left the palace with Tomoe, the waters of the place shifted once its balance was removed and flooded. Causing all the damage seen.

Priestess Yao (Corrupted Monk) and Takeru were close friends, basically siblings. I imagine Takeru wearing a string of red prayer beads ever since I saw a fanart of him, making me believe he was part of a temple as well. A monk or maybe a priest himself, the closest to the divine dragon. He was probably well respected at the palace.

Takeru heard rumors about the palace nobles and their want for youth or whatever it was that they craved and fled, Tomoe went with him as his guard. Yao had to stop them, severely injuring Tomoe and this is where she becomes sworn to Takeru’s immortal oath if she wasn’t already. Takeru can clearly see Yao is not herself and does the only thing a non-combatant that’s immortal can do, jump the fuck off the bridge and into valley below. Leaving Yao waiting for them to return and never leaving her post due to centipede messing with her brain.

Personally, I see Takeru and Tomoe’s relationship as lovers. I don’t really have a reason why but it fits, until we probably won’t get more lore and my opinion will be swayed. But for now, lovers.

Takeru is soft spoken, his voice is gentle and quiet while Tomoe is the opposite. Loud, brash and unwaveringly confident but not enough so to underestimate someone due to an ego/pride.

Takeru probably reads a lot and had a garden of some type in Ashina Castle, featuring both flowers and regular food.

Tomoe wears her hair in a braid. Like Youngest Owl’s is in terms of neatness and thickness. She’s probably left handed too because of how Genichiro shoots his bow, and you usually shoot with your dominant hand unless your teacher is left handed then you will learn that way or be able to shoot with both left and right as your dominant.

Oh boy Splat3 being fun I hope this doesn't come off like a rant I'm just being thorough bc that community question post I'm so sorry if this is A Lot

Splatoon 3 veers between 'insanely, super fun' and 'not even remotely' on a near daily basis.

For what feels like the first time in the series' history the matchmaking and connection issues have synchronized to both be so bad that it feels like you barely get to play, and if you do play then you'll rarely get a fair fight and either play against a comp thats not fair for one side (IE triple e-liter and an inkbrush in splatzones) or against opponents with skill level that's unreasonably higher or lower than your team's.

Even with a wired connection I rarely last more than 3-4 matches at best before losing connection in the lobby and having to find new teams, and its not rare to have to go through the queue multiple times because of disconnects while waiting. This has never happened in 1 or 2 to me, back then I'd get maybe one or two a month. Now I get dozens in a week, and nearly everyone I play with does too.

Winning isn't everything but I've had remarkably few matches that felt... like actual matches. Most of my wins have been crushing curbstomps of people that felt like they just got the game or never had a chance because it was a quartet of chargers or whatever.

The same happens for my losses w/ them usually feeling like I went against a team of pro tournament players or being put with 1-3 other splatlings or chargers whenever I play a non-shooter, to the point I've nearly given up on playing my mains that I enjoy and just picked up TTek because I would constantly be curbstomped bc of tri-splatling + 1 squiffer comps and stuff like that outside of X Battle if I don't play a jack of all trades shooter (which, annoyingly, has a system to avoid exactly this problem that works perfectly but was never added to the normal modes)

Between all that and a multitude of minor things (Hero mode being a drop in quality from Splat2's, Splatfests being a noticeable downgrade from Splat2's, Big Run... feeling awkward the way it was handled, a number of balancing issues from launch like crab dominance and tentamissile spam, etc) the game feels more frustrating than ever before in the series when it goes badly despite it feeling better than ever when it goes well thanks to nearly every other facet of actually playing the game being massively improved

I have tons of fun when it feels like it works, but I've honestly just drifted to playing Salmon Run near exclusively because Salmon Run is consistently enjoyable w/o most of the above issues and usually the worst that happens is Nintendo going on a streak of really not fun comps to use (or it being Spawning Grounds, which isn't balanced for Splat3's new aggressive salmonids at all)

I'm glad you mentioned the 'Not fun to win' aspect of matchmaking, because I don't see it mentioned a lot: It's not always losing that's the problem, because it's equally not as satisfying to end up stomping new players because you and your X friends run out to try new weapons and still have built-skills over the years...We want people around our level to practice against!

I'm genuinely surprised to hear someone say Hero Mode was a downgrade; there's been so much praises sung (and I genuinely had a good time myself). However, still a valid opinion!

It absolutely is fun when things go right! The connection works, the matchmaking actually balances (rarely but it does for me), and even some losses feel fine because it felt like a fair match that we just came up short

I still say hold out a while longer for all the new goodies we should get! Hopefully things will improve with time, but I can see everyone's frustration as things stand right now

it's a little frustrating ngl and i feel bad having to explain this, because like... i feel like it's upsetting to people when it shouldn't be, but. in-game cherry isn't real and none of the interactions are canon to her because the cherry i rp in-game isn't the wol, and her being the wol is my canon, you know. and like it's nice that people want to include cherry in their lore but it's like. well. sdjcbsc idkkkkk like. in-game rp doesn't bring me joy and i don't like it anymore tbh i hate how time consuming it is in that it requires me to be physically present and paying attention to reply within like 5 minutes.

i think i'd like to retire her from in-game rp altogether, because it's pointless 😭 it feels like a compromised version of her that's been bastardized, even if she retains her core personality traits, and like. honestly. the trauma of what she's been through as the wol is what makes her who she is like... who am i even looking at LOL.

like it's different from having aus like league or modern, because i am more in control of that in the sense that she's still central to her own story and have fun with those aus. but in-game it's like... what do i do with that. like i enjoy lore-breaking to an extent but the idea that these super modern clubs exist is insane and it's not ever going to be canon to any xiv-related iteration of cherry and just. waaaaaaaaah.

like i truly don't enjoy in-game rp at all and like, i've been extremely vocal about it tbh to anyone who asks me to come along to things. and i feel bad turning people down, but i truly want so little to do with the game. i don't think i'm going to play dawntrail for a long while either because i don't have the disk space for it, and i'm not in any rush to go to the pc shop to get help installing my new ssd because i'm too afraid to try to get my gpu out. like idk i hate feeling pressured to go club hopping and i know my friends want to rp with me but i just hate rping in game and i really don't want to lol i don't even really enjoy gposing anymore tbh.

like it's not even that one person ruined the game and its experience for me anymore, although it certainly is part of it, but i just... my interests shifted again, u know. like i'm enjoying tumblr rp again and rping my league muses and i'm busy with school and work and i'm reading a lot more again and i just! have no room to love xiv or interest in existing in it, and i feel guilty bc ppl do want my presence in there but i just don't want to play the game for any reason lmao

ok brief negative thoughts. the beginning of the game feels reeeeeally slow to me, and there are like NO good places to train until right before norman's gym. i felt like i was constantly struggling to get aaaany exp it was very annoying. controversial, but i honestly just dont find the hoenn region to be very interesting. it could be because i replayed ORAS sixty million times, though. and i reaaaaally hate how these games dont let you run inside buildings, it can be really frustrating at times, but thats nitpicky

ok thats the end of my negative thoughts. i LOVE the selection of pokemon in gen 3, and the new pokemon are almost all fantastic which is definitely more than i can say for recent gens. these designs are just so solid, and my whole team is comprised of gen 3 pokemon which doesnt always happen in other games. like, in the most recent two gens ive struggled to have more than 1 or 2 new pokemon on my team bc the designs just havent been resonating with me. pokemon ruby definitely doesnt have that problem.

the soundtrack is hit or miss for me (which, again, i think is because i played ORAS too much so the songs start to get on my nerves more easily), but when it hits it really hits. in general im not a fan of most of the town themes, but the gym theme and evil team themes are really fun. i havent gotten there, but i already know i like Steven's theme in this game. dont even get me started on steven (i love him).

i thought it would be frustrating, but playing a game without the physical/special move split has been really interesting! im having fun playing around with my teams movesets and im using some pokemon and moves i wouldnt have used before. rn one of my MVPs is a Zangoose named Kitty. Since ghost is physical in this gen, shes absolutely obliterating things with shadow ball.

one of my favorite things about this game so far has been just how interactive and alive the hoenn region is. i bitched about Violet feeling extremely barren; hoenn is the exact opposite. although i dont find the region itself to be super interesting, im extremely appreciative of how much life is in the region. every route and city has something going on, the story requires you to interact with random NPCs and explore the towns to progress.

Scarlet/Violet and SWSH felt very much like "go to city. battle gym. go to city. battle gym." but pokemon ruby feels like you are genuinely exploring this region, meeting and helping all kinds of people, etc. the region just feels like its bustling, and it makes me wish this kind of life was present in the newer games.

Overall, i think i see why these games are beloved. Although there are some pokemon games i definitely like more than these ones, these are some pretty good pokemon games.
