Hi, Pen. I‘ve been thinking about getting and playing Rainworld so…. thoughts? (Also on which platform did you play it? Bc a review for the xbox version said that the controls are kinda wanky at the beginning and I wonder whether you could confirm or deny?)
ahh thats nice to hear!!!! hehe.. rain worlds fun!! first off : id recommend getting just rain world first, without downpour, so that you can see if its your kind of game! its not for everyone, but its brought me lots of joy over the years (like 2 or 3) that ive played it!!!
the controls can be difficult to get a grasp of indeed.. ive only ever played on keyboard, so i cant vouch for xbox:( but!! you can change the controls in the settings, which helps out a bunch:) it can also be hard to get a sense of where to go, what youre supposed to do, and, if you end up getting it, my main advice is: yea !! for like 8 cycles, when i first began playing it, i thought rain world was like.. dont laugh at me, i thought it was like, you spend 10 cycles surviving, and after that it just.. ends. tells you how your slugcat ends up. i thought it was a side scroller. i got so frustrated with it that i abandonded it for a few months. i dont play it as much anymore, but when i do, i still get frustrated sometimes
thats not to say you cant get good at the game!! you definetely can grasp the mechanics, you learn, with the slugcat, about the world youre in, and the worldbuilding is just awesome dude. i love the lore. it has a wonderful, amazing story, that will never leave my mind. and the slugcats are just wonderful creatures
its lovelies... !!! i recommend trying it out..!! and i recommend powering through, too... its hard at times, but, its worth it!!!! the art is wonderful and its awesome and i love it and you might also...!! but i dont wanna promise you anything !! also i might be overestimating how difficult it is..? i might be underestimating? it was hard for me, but idk if it will be for you, too!! or if it was/is as hard for others as for me.. you could always refund it if you played it on steam !! 👍👍👍👍
thank you for turning to me with your questions!! i hope i was able to anwser them ok, but if you have any more, lmk!!
#ask#<33333#rain world will forever plague my mind .. once you get in you cant get out#ough rain world... ive been thinking about it a lot lately#i like it:) its fun!!!!#its so wild to me that rain world is like. big now. like i see people with rw pfps in random posts#and mr j saw a slugcat#its so wild. i remember when i was like.. an oc guy?like umm . i was one of the consistent rebloggers..?????#i dont mean this in a “i liked it before it was cool” way!! im happy people like it!!!!!#but in a more of. i didnt think rain world would get so big. it deserves it n all that ofc it does#its just wild to me#i like it:) it will always have a special place in my heart

•a/n: idk what this is, besties, besides extremely unedited and wildly indulgent. I may change the voice out of first person and all the “i’s” to “you’s” but it’s up the way it’s up for now. 🤷🏽♀️The world is just a horrifying place right now, especially in the US, and I just wanted to write something that felt like a small refuge, spend a little time some place that felt better, so we’re back in Namjoon’s living room. Also, who better to escape into the woods and away from reality with than the founder of namjooning himself ((also also, that bit about Pennsylvania was 100% true. It’s wild here, man))

“I cannot get comfortable for the life of me,” I huff grumpily.
It’s a Monday night, late in March. The threat of rain has been looming for hours. Despite its sudden absence in the forecast when I check the weather app, I can still feel it in my bones. In the raw, creaky way my joints scrape against each other. The way the inflammation in my body burns like fire ants beneath my skin.
Namjoon is quick to notice from across the room.
“This weather’s been making your body feel like hell this spring.”
“Yeah, I hate to begrudge it though. Winter was even worse.”
“Gosh, it really was huh?” He frowns at the laptop screen on his desk. He’s got the tiniest beanie shoved on his very big head but somehow, it works. The tips of his hair peak past the beanie’s brim, brushing the mussed hair of his furrowed eye brows. “God, I can’t stand to stare at a screen a second longer.”
He peels his gold rimmed glasses off his nose, rubbing the little indentions they've made along the bridge and pressing his fingers into his closed eye sockets. I can tell he’s exhausted and miserable too about how much energy life seems to require of him these days.
“I’m going to scoop you up and make you the most comfortable woman in the world, I promise. Just give me like three minutes.” He tips back in his desk chair, the spine of it sliding out to a wide reclined angle as his long legs stretch out in front of him.
“Why did we spend so much money on a couch that’s not even comfortable, joonie?” I whine, shifting once again.
“Because the last one was even less comfortable than this one,” he reminds me, “and at least this one is cognac leather,” he shrugs. “It’s comfy on the eyes at least”
“Well I need it to be comfy for my bones.” I grunt, shoving yet another throw pillow out of your way. “Maybe we should pick up and move to the shore, like in a regency novel. I think the air would be good for me. I wonder if American healthcare accepts existential dread and deep chronic pain as enough of a reason to just financially support us until I turn to dust.”
“You and your TikTok algorithm both know as well as I do that America will do no such thing,” Namjoon chuckles with his eyes closed.
“I know…. But they should take at least some culpability. God knows most of my health problems probably exist BECAUSE of them.” I slide the strap of my bra and shirt off my shoulder, not because I want to be a seductress but because the elastic is cutting into my throbbing right trap muscle and if I don’t get some of the tension off of it, I might scream.
“Right? Did you hear about the latex spill in the Delaware river yesterday? The entire city of Philadelphia doesn’t have usable drinking water right now. My friend there literally got a text message about it from the city strongly recommending every use bottled water only until
Further notice. One and a half million people woke up to that text Message! It’s insane.” Namjoon pulls his oversized hood up over his beanie as he looks up at the ceiling, ankles crossed beneath the desk.
“Lord, haven’t we lived through enough of this? I’m so tired, joonie.” I can hear how pitiful I sound. To his credit, he treats me just the same as when I sound intellectually astute and strong. I’ve always liked that about him.
“If the world is going to hell in a hand basket anyway, maybe we should look into a- moving internationally and b- signing up for a payment plan on one of those YouTube influencer mattresses,” Namjoon tips his head my way, and suddenly my heart feels a little more light.
“Ooo, the helix?“ I smile, for perhaps the first time tonight.
His dark eyes twinkle in the low evening lamplight.
“ I actually did some research and found one made out of avocados.”
“Is that as close as I can get now that my body has decided it’s allergic to Avos?”
Namjoon’s eyes crinkle as he laughs. “God, your body would find a way to betray you like that wouldn’t it?”
“It’s not my fault I’m too delicate for this world,” I shrug.
“I forget you were born inside a flower that protected you from the world with its petals until it bloomed, thumbelina.”
“If I could take a nap inside a peony right now, I’d do it in a heartbeat…. The pollen might be too much though.” I sigh.
“Come here,” Namjoon laughs, standing from his chair and extending his hand toward me.
“Where are you taking me?”
I slip my knuckles between his and knock against his shoulder with my head.
“To my bumblebee. Take you on a spin around the block” he winks.
“I’m surprised you didn’t say take a ride. It’s like the only lyric you use these days” I snicker, bumping the curve of my hip into his.
“You’re supposed to write what you know,” he shrugs.” It’s not my fault your hips are your area of expertise.”
He winks at me and god, if he took every piece of clothing off of me right now, I’d ride him in a heartbeat.
Shit. Knowing him, he can probably feel my response to him without even looking at me. Sure enough, he looks down, smiling until his dimples dip in his cheeks, and damn it, I’m so captivated by the focaccia dough dips in his face that I stumble into the corner of the wall. My hip catches and I yelp, more embarrassed than in pain.
“Shh, hey, I got you.”
That calm voice of his is so low right now as his palm curves around the dip in my hip that got nicked by the wall. I tip into his long, warm torso and let him guide me into the bedroom. I’m clearly too disoriented and agitated to make it here without careening into something else and frustrating myself, so I’m happy for the assistance. Besides, being scooped up in Namjoon’s substantial hands is never a bad place to be.
“Thanks, baby. I needed that.”
I press my temple into his chest, kiss his ribs. Marvel at the resistance of muscle I feel beneath his soft green shirt. I press my nose into the fabric and let the warmth of him calm me. His other hand strokes soft knuckles along my jaw. His touch is so light and sweet - I feel my shoulders drop as he does it.
“Pick me up?” I whisper, eyes lifting softly to look up at him from where I’m pressed into his chest.
His hands slide up my sides, palms pressed into my waist as he lifts me. The soft grunt he makes as my thighs wrap around his ribs makes something in my brain feel a little fuzzy. Life is better like this, I think. Our faces nuzzled cheek to cheekbone, his hands fitted beneath my thighs, mine trailing softly through the silky bits of his hair peeking out of the back of his beanie as my arms drape over his shoulders like fabric. I can feel the knot of tension in the middle of my spine begin to untie itself as I melt into him. God, I’m so happy he exists.
“Where would you like to go, princess?”
Namjoon kisses the top of my ear, and that fuzzy tingle in my brain is back.
“What are my options?”
I press my lips softly to his throat in light, meditative kisses. They’re more like delicate exhales. My tongue barely tips out to taste his skin. Just a touch. Just a taste. Sleepy and slow because that’s all I have the energy for. His eyelids do that hazy half flutter that tells me he likes it enough to pretend he doesn’t so that I’ll keep going. I smile as he gently tips his head to the side, as if waiting for my answer, but really he’s just giving me more room to access that spot behind his ear that likes my lips. Let’s humor the man.
“We could go to the bed, the shower, the bath…” he gasps a little on the last word, the ah sound coming out too airy as I gently mouth at his pulse point and his grip on my thighs gets tense. “Or there’s a ….counter right here.” His head tips toward the half bath in the hallway as his fingers dig into the meat of my legs.
When I look up to meet his eyes, they’ve gone serpentine. Deep and dark and heavy as he holds me close. I can feel how shallow his breathing is becoming and I smile, sleepy and soft as he watches me.
“Take me to bed, Joonie.”
He’s kissing me before I can even finish his name.
He tips the door open with one of his feet before squeezing us both through the threshold of it. With his eyes closed and his tongue between my lips, he’s bound to crash into something and he does. He thunks an elbow, I knock my head, but in seconds, he’s cradling it where I’ve bumped the wall, spilling “sorry, I’ve got you, sorry,” onto my tongue as he pulls me in closer.
The spell doesn’t break.
He’s big and he’s bulky but he’s careful with me as he lays me on the bed and climbs over me. His mouth doesn’t leave mine even as he peels off each piece of my clothing. His movements are slow, his touch tender as he does.
Namjoon has learned how to soothe my body when it’s alert like this. Knows the cool air feels refreshing and crisp when my skin is hot with pain and sensitivity so he gets me naked with a deft touch. He knows the feel of his skin is grounding for me so that soft green shirt of his hits the floor. Knows I love his hair so the beanie goes next. Knows I love the strength in his thighs so his shorts are next as he tugs my hips down beneath his to let me wrap my legs around his slim waist.
I'm so wrapped up in the warmth of him that I don’t realize he’s tugged my silk pillowcase beneath my head. It’s cool when my head falls back and I smile, toothy and wide, as his plush lips sink into my skin. He’s at my collarbone now, then the volume of my breasts. His breath is warm, the air is cool and his substantial hands grip me firm like dough he’s being careful with as he kneads.
His cock brushes against me between my legs and the bright feeling it sends sparkling through me makes my breathing stutter.
“Joonie,” I shiver, and I can feel him smile against my skin. See his eyes flash up at me in the dark.
“We do too much, baby.” He breathes, voice smoky and low like the dragon he is.
I don’t know what he means. My critical thinking is losing its sharpness as he suckles warm and soft at the dip of my ribs.
“Too much?” I can feel my brows crumpling, but his tongue is so warm on my stomach that my hands dig into his shoulders without my consent.
He reaches up to brush one hand over mine.
“Shhh, easy. We’re trying to relax you, not tense you up.”
He’s smiling. I can barely see him but I can feel him and I know his grin would only dissolve me deeper into the mattress.
“We do too much, we deal with too much. God, your skin is too motherfucking much,” he squeezes me, latches his soft mouth onto my waist and tugs at the skin. I can feel the bruise blooming there, but he’s off and on to the next before I can even get words out. “Your body is always trying to process all of it, but it’s too much. Let me take care of some of it- let me help.”
When His tongue slips between my legs, his strong hands push my legs wide, press them down when he feels me buckle. His breath is so warm, his mouth is so molten, his nose on my clit is so gentle- it all leaves my body in an exhale. Tension drops off like melted wax and I feel myself go supple in his palms as I let him do what he wants with me.
“There’s been so much chaos. So much to deal with. So much to do. I just want to run away from it all with you.”
His tongue is languid as it works on me. The rush of warmth undoes the aches in my body better than a hot bath ever has.
“Then let’s go, Joonie. Where do you want to go? I’ll follow you anywhere.” And I mean it. They’re not lusty rambles. They’re not hollow words. I’d follow him to the edge of the world.
He puts that plump mouth of his over my clit and the gentle way he slurps me up melts my bones into soup broth and clears my head.
“You’ll let me take you anywhere?”
He looks up at me, his mouth never leaving his post, working me slowly as he waits for my reply. His mouth is so wet, his eyes are so sharp and my body is just another piece of music he’s learned how to perfect. I nod, bottom lip bit between my teeth and relax as much as I can as he composes a symphony between my legs. His smile folds the crinkles around his eyes, and his aura flickers between lovingly soft and steadily authoritative as he doubles down, wrapping his arms around my legs to scoop my hips up into his face and pressing into me, deeper, faster, harder.
I arch up when he does, gasping as my shoulders lift up, my fingers twist in the bedspread, my jaw goes slack. He’s really doing a number on me and all I want to do is say thank you and let him continue.
He slides up my body then, one hand behind my head bringing my forehead to his as the other grips my hip with enough pressure to split it apart as he tips his cock inside me in a way I didn’t know I needed. The sound is squelchy and wet and he smiles as his nose bumps against mine.
“You’ll follow me?”
He sounds cocky in a way he hasn’t in a while and a little piece of me loves it. His hips are fluid as his cock rocks in and out of me. All I can do is nod wildly, disoriented as I clutch him close to me. My legs are folded up, feet along his hips for purchase with my knees butterflied wide. I’d laugh at how much I must look like a frog if this didn’t feel so good. He’s got a hand beneath my bum, lifting my hips off the bend and gliding his cock so deep into me that surely my organs are all shifting wide like the Red Sea to make room for him.
“Wherever you want to go,” I hum, arms falling slack. I’ve lost the energy to hold on to him, but he’s got me held up so precious and tight that we’re still more intertwined than two fibers of thread in a tight knit sweater. I’ve fused into him and now every breath is in tandem.
“I’m gonna take my girl away from here.”
His thumb brushes my bottom lip and I feel myself flush at his tenderness.
“Yeah?” My eyes are wide, following his. He hovers above me, furrowed face sculpted with intensity and aggression as his body works mine into ecstasy. I’ve really acquiesced to the fact that I’m nothing more than a soft lump of clay in his hands that he’s working with precision. I’ve always wanted to be a work of art.
He slips my breast into his mouth like a lychee jelly, moaning at the feel of me tightening around him when he does it. Pumping harder, faster, deeper, only to pull out and dip his long fingers into the mess he’s made. He slathers it over all my sensitive bits, caressing with finesse as sparklers crackle in my vision.
When He pulls me up and into him, my face is pressed between his pecs and god, I can’t keep it together. I kiss them furiously as he works, clutching onto his arms, dragging my fingers down his abs as he slides his glossy fingers over my clit like he’s casting a spell. I can’t breathe… I can’t breathe… I can’t….
But I can because I have to- Namjoon won’t ease up until he gives me the sweet oxytocin of release by his hands and I wouldn’t have it any other way. So I dig deep and exhale slow and controlled, whimpering as he rockets past that orgasm to send me into preparing for the next one. He smirks like I’m his plaything and I comply with no resistance. I’ll have as many rounds as he gives me. I’m a big girl. I can handle- Oh!
At least, I thought I could handle anything. Naive me, I suppose.
I smile into the sheets when he tips me over onto all fours. He kisses my shoulders, kisses along my spine, brushing his thumbs on the folds on my hip, all tender and kind and syrupy sweet as the behemoth between his legs tips ever so slowly inside of me despite my incredible tightness, and I don’t know whether to breathe or scream so I press my face into the bedding and giggle like there’s something wrong with me.
“Take you somewhere quiet,” he slides in deeper. “With no noise,” he thrusts. “No news.” He thrusts. “Just nature.”
My chest feels tight with affection but my body feels limps like a rag doll as he pumps me silly. His gargantuan hands holding up my hips are the only thing keeping me from sliding off the bed and melting into the floorboards.
“Joonie, i’d- I’d love that,” soft puffs of air leave me with each fluid roll of his hips. The snap at the end of the graceful flourish knocks my skull a little loose but I don’t mind. Thinking so little is really quite nice.
“Take you for walks, lay with you in nature, fuck you like this in an outdoor bath tub while we watch the stars.”
His hand glides down my spine as he paints beautiful pictures with his words. My heart and my body don’t know which way is up.
“Escape all this chaos. At least for a little bit.” He smirks. I catch a glimpse of it as I look over my shoulder, reach back to hold his hand.
“I might never let you drag me back to the real world.” My smile is gooey, fond and so is his now. His dimples have come out - all his sincerity and heart on display, as his hips still even as he still fills me up.
“I can write poetry in the wild,” he shrugs. “My music would probably be better for it.”
He looks bashful and soft. The juxtaposition of his strong body and sweet face make me dip forward. He slides out of me, watching with confusion as I guide him to stand beside the bed.
When I flip onto my back, letting my head loll backwards off the bed in front of him, he arches a brow at me. I just chuckle and pull him forward by the back of his legs.
“Come here. I want to make my own music.”
I take the length of him into my mouth and he topples over, hands bracing on either side of me on the bed. He groans so sweet and low that I smile as I take him deep. His knees buckle when my nose tips softly against his balls as I suckle him slowly and it takes everything in me not to laugh at how happy I am.
His hands travel my body as his mouth occupies itself. He makes a meal of my breasts, takes a drink between my legs, holds my throat to lighten my breath. When we cum in tandem, he collapses to my side as we catch our breath in silence.
The night is still, the air is cool and rain is finally trickling against the windows.
Our bodies are spent and our plan is set.
We’ll run away soon enough.
But now, cradled breast to breast, we sleep knowing our world is just the smallest bit brighter.

I Didn't Mean To Haunt You
Chapter V - Shades Of Us
Summary : The spirit takes on a new trainee, and Maheas becomes more comfortable with the spirit. You must face the repercussions of the previous day, which only leads to arguments and conversations in the rain. And ultimately, a terrible realization that you've tried to deny for a long time.
Word Count : 7.7k
Contains : Me projecting (extra pained)
Pairings : Gojo Satoru/Reader, Geto Suguru/Reader, Nanami Kento/Reader, Yu Haibara/Reader, Everyone/Reader (Reverse Harem)
Cross-posted on Ao3
A/N : Ermmmm yeah so after deleting the OG chapter and rewriting it, I have a nice welcome-back chapter. So much for taking two weeks off, amiright? Haha. (Pained). I hope you'll forgive me for the angst present in this chapter and no Geto or Gojo, because now we finally have two new pairings introduced! Also, even if I'm not pairing MC with any female characters, I have a very big soft spot for Shoko, I'm sure that's obvious. Also, another short flashback, and a new OC introduced. She's the last one, I promise! And she's relevant... eventually! They all are. They all serve their own purpose, I prommy guys!!!!! Canonly, in the OG version of this story, this OC has a niece/god-daughter but I feel like that'd be too much for a JJK x Reader story on Ao3, so I'll keep that separate unless people are really interested. She's very important to the OC and plays a pivotal role in his development, but I can forgo that for this version of the story to keep things more simple.
The public have an insatiable curiosity to know everything, except what is worth knowing. ~ Oscar Wilde
It has been a few weeks since the spirit has started training Maheas one-on-one with his new polearm, and things are going rather smoothly. So smoothly, in fact, that in mid-September, Suliman introduces another young child to join them.
Venick is much younger than Maheas, and she seems very out of place in Suliman’s strange society. Her straight black hair falls over her shoulders, hiding away most of her face unless the servants tie it back in a ponytail for her. She doesn’t give any of those fake smiles that everyone else here does – actually, she doesn’t smile at all, nor does she speak much. Her weapon, a bow, is always clenched tightly in her hands, keeping it close to her chest. There’s no sign of her having any cursed energy capabilities, but Suliman sees something in the young girl that others cannot, according to her.
It had taken some time for Maheas to warm up to the spirit, but Venick took much longer. She refuses to join in on training unless the blonde boy drags her, but by then she’s already kicking and screaming in protest, digging her heels into the ground and kicking up dirt as tears run down her face. She doesn’t want to learn how to fight. She’s a child.
The spirit finds itself completely disconnected by most emotions by now, so it has to remind itself that it is training kids. Granted, one of them is probably a psychopath, and the other can be a complete brat, but they’re still kids. Suliman’s perfect weapons are molded as young as eleven years old.
So, on bright days like these, the spirit decides to take the kids to the kitchens to cook a dish for them. It is a comforting meal it used to cook back in its own world constantly, making more than enough to share with others.
Maheas and Venick sit at the kitchen island on the high stools, looking at the spirit curiously. Even the young girl seems entranced by how it flips the vegetables in the large wok seamlessly, shuffling around the room to cook udon noodles and tofu at the same time. Her bow sits right next to her on the floor, her leg brushing against it every time she swings it back and forth.
By now, Maheas understands that the spirit is deaf and can’t understand them when its back faces them. Venick, however, doesn’t exactly know much. Of anything, really. Suliman hasn’t said much about her, but the spirit guesses that the young girl was found in the middle of nowhere, neglected and probably more than a few years behind on education and socialization.
“What’re you making?” The dark-haired girl asks the spirit as it flips the veggies in the wok again. “Can you hurry up? I’m hungry.”
“It can’t hear you,” Maheas says to her, nose-deep in a book about ancient battles, not even bothering to look up at her. “It’s deaf.”
She tilts her head, confused. “But they- it nods its head when you talk to it.”
“When it’s looking at me, sure. It reads lips.” He sighs, slamming the book closed irritatedly. “But when it isn’t looking at us, it won’t hear. Look.”
He gets up from his chair, walking right behind the spirit who still works away over the stovetop and cups his hands around his mouth.
“ BOO!” Maheas’ voice echoes loudly against the walls of the large kitchen, making Venick jump in her seat. However, there’s absolutely no reaction from the spirit, just a little hiss of pain when a splash of boiling oil hits its right hand.
The boy returns to his seat, opening his book back up nonchalantly. “See?”
Venick stares at the back of the spirit’s head before her eyes trail over to Maheas. “Why’d it go death anyways?”
“Deaf. With an f. Are you stupid?” Maheas glares at her. “And beats me. It’s been like that since Madame Suliman saved it.”
“Like me? Will I go deat– deaf too?” She asks, clumsily stumbling over her pronunciation.
Venick sure is talkative today. God, just shut up, the blonde boy thinks to himself, rolling his eyes. “If you don’t shut up in the next five seconds, yeah, you will. ”
That gets her to close her mouth, keeping her lips sealed and staring dead ahead at the spirit who continues to cook, completely clueless to their conversation. Finally, Maheas goes back to his book, legs swinging back and forth happily as he reads uninterrupted. His eyes flit up every so often to observe their teacher who finishes up mixing the noodles with the handmade peanut butter sauce.
It plates the food on two separate plates, topping the thick noodles with the fried tofu, vegetables and toasted sesame seeds. The two kids immediately dig in, eating as if they haven’t been fed in weeks. They shovel down the food so quickly that the spirit can see the peanut butter sauce sticking to the sides of their mouths, making it raise an eyebrow. When was the last time they ate?
“You’re not gonna eat?” Venick asks it through a mouthful of food. Though, if the spirit was being honest with itself, it couldn’t read a single thing she said; but it can guess.
It shakes its head. It had an apple three days ago, it was completely fine. It wouldn’t need to eat for another few days or so.
“You’re weird,” she muses, going back to stuffing her face with food.
“Of course it’s weird, it’s not like us,” Maheas says after taking a large sip of water.
It seems to be routine, as days pass. On the too-hot days, the spirit forgoes training and encourages the two kids to eat, rest or read instead. This is all done without Suliman knowing, or else she would probably ream them all for being too lazy, or some ridiculous reasoning of the kind.
It only puts a halt on these calm days when rumours start popping up around the area – defectors, running away from Suliman’s watchful eye. They leave behind everything in their possession; homes, money, family, their own children. She becomes more restless around the spirit and her own men, subtly making sure that they are staying true to their duties. None of it is confirmed, of course. However, the training becomes more intense for Venick and Maheas, as the woman seems to be around the training grounds nearly constantly.
The rumours finally rear their head one day, some semblance of truth coming to light.
“You won’t go like them, right, spirit?” Maheas asks it after an extensive day of clashing their polearms against each other. There were rumours of high-class defectors this time around, leaving behind their beloved children in hopes of saving themselves. Apparently they were caught, but nobody has heard anything else about them since then.
The young boy tugs at its pants with his grime-covered hands. “You won’t go anywhere, right?”
It shakes its head, wiping the sweat from its forehead. There is no life for it outside of this, it is sure of that.
“Good. I don’t want you to go,” he says, looking at a group of men returning with a large wooden box, big enough to fit a body inside of it. “I won’t let you.”
“You understand me, spirit? I won’t let you,” Maheas looks determined as he looks back up at the spirit.
It nods, mindlessly agreeing with him. If it helps calm the blonde boy down, it will agree to any delusion he has. After all, that’s all it is – a child’s delusion.
It repeats that mantra in its head, over and over again, for the rest of the day, until it goes back into its room that night, the weight of the day resting heavy on its shoulders. It puts its polearm against the wall, right next to the door, toeing its uncomfortable shoes off and haphazardly throwing them into a random corner of the room.
It’s about to lay down and let its weary body relax in the thin duvet on the bed when something catches its attention in the corner of its eye – a new book rests upon the top of the desk, one that it has never seen before.
‘Langues Des Signes Française - LSF / FSL’ is in big, gold letters etched into the dark blue book. Beside it, there’s a small note written in neat handwriting.

It sets the book down as if its hand had been burnt, immediately tossing the note in the garbage. If it wants to learn to communicate with humans, it will do so on its own terms. Not because this witch wants it to. The spirit sighs, sitting down on its bed, eyes stuck on the book cover.
Its stomach uncomfortably grumbles, for some reason.
It could go for an apple.
It’s hungry.
2005.
You wake up alone.
You’re facing the wall when your eyes crack open, the bed cold except for where you lay. You must’ve moved around a lot in your sleep, because you’re laying where Gojo was resting, no remnants of his warmth leftover on the mattress. You look over your shoulder, noticing the notebook is still on the nightstand, but Gojo’s sunglasses are nowhere to be seen. Him, Geto and Shoko must’ve left hours ago and let you sleep in.
You wonder where they went without you, considering there are no missions today, and you have to debrief all together. Whatever.
Rubbing the sleep away from your eyes, you feel your jaw popping as you yawn. You sit up, stretching your arms and inhaling deeply before letting them rest at your side. You feel strangely alone, and decide to head to your own room to change into some fresh clothes and maybe take a shower.
Your eyes glance over to the notebook, hands grabbing it to look more closely at the three different handwritings. Subconsciously, your lips perk up – you feel touched by their very simple gesture of writing in the notebook just to wish you something as simple as a goodnight.
As you lazily slip your ratty converse shoes on your feet, you realize that you’re still wearing the clothes that Gojo let you borrow last night. Should probably wash these before they’re returned, you think to yourself, grabbing the notebook and your dirty clothes before carefully closing the door to the white-haired man’s room behind you.
The halls are void of any life, but you’re not entirely surprised. This seems to be the usual at the school. You finally make it to your dorm room, unlocking the door and flicking the lightswitch on. Carelessly, you dump your ruined clothing into the hamper near the door, going to the dresser to pull some casual clothing out; a dark t-shirt and matching sweatpants of your own.
When you walk into the bathroom, you lean down to place your clothes on the ground and immediately feel pain flare up on your side, reminding you of your wounds from the previous day. Carefully, you lift your shirt, exposing the gross blotch that seems to have spread across your ribs, akin to the curse snaking around your forearm. You catch your own gaze in the mirror, smiling wryly to yourself.
“ You’re a sight for sore eyes,” you mouth to yourself. A reprimand only for your own eyes. “ You look disgusting. ” Self-hatred only meant for you.
If you look at yourself any longer, you’ll start feeling the bile rising at the back of your throat. You let the t-shirt drop back down, switching the shower on and undressing yourself, keeping your back turned to the mirror the entire time. You soak the dirtied bandages that were once wrapped around your arms in the sink, the water already turning a light brown.
You hiss as you test the heat of the water with your hand, feeling it burn your skin. Though it’s not even turned all the way to the hottest setting, you’ve been much more sensitive to heat ever since the curse made you more in-tune with your fire. Nevertheless, you step in the shower, letting the boiling water hit against your body, letting it turn your skin raw. As much as it hurts, it still helps soothe your aching muscles, letting your shoulders go slack, hair getting heavier as the water soaks it.
After carefully washing your body with soap and rinsing your hair with shampoo, you give yourself a few more minutes to bask in the shower. You observe the way your hands look now – palms covered in calluses from the polearm, cuts from the splinters that dug into your skin from the fight yesterday. Those are hands that can kill.
You leave the water on for much longer than necessary before you snap out of whatever daydream you stuck yourself into, quickly turning the shower off and towelling yourself dry.
It’s your first time looking at the curse on your arm since yesterday morning, and you’re relieved to see that it didn’t spread at all, even with the aggravating annoyance of a curse you faced. You didn’t get angry, you were just bothered. As long as you remember to control your emotions, the curse won’t spread any further.
You tug your fresh clothes on, then look through the cupboard underneath the sink, relieved to see that Yaga must’ve refreshed your bandage wrap supply when you were gone the other day. You quickly wrap your arms back up, then drop Gojo’s clothes in the hamper after exiting the bathroom.
Just as you go to sit down on the bed to take another moment for yourself, you notice a small screen light up on your nightstand. Carefully, you shuffle over to look at it. Did someone leave their flip phone in the room? Next to it, there’s a sticky note with familiar handwriting scribbled across it.
- Figured it would make things easier. ~Yaga
Curious, you flip it open, a bigger screen lighting up. There’s a few notifications on it, all from the same teacher. You scroll through them one by one, slowly feeling your heart drop out of your ass.
- Meeting room. [Sent 8:03am]
- I’m serious. [Sent 8:03am] - ASAP. [Sent 8:04am] - I mean, NOW. [Sent 8:05am] - You fucked up. [Sent 8:10am]
You take a look at the current time, and feel your heart drop even further, if possible.
Half past eight.
You are totally, royally fucked. Absolutely screwed. There are no words that can emphasise how badly you messed up.
You nearly trip over yourself as you run as fast as possible, completely winded by the time you reach Yaga just outside of the meeting room. He stands there, arms crossed, eyes hidden behind his favourite pair of sunglasses – but the unmistakable threatening aura surrounding him is enough to tell you that you would be lucky if you walk away from this meeting unscathed.
Yaga’s brows are furrowed deeply, intense shadows etched into his face. Even though you can’t see his entire face, you guess that the man is more than just exhausted from all the stress that has accumulated since yesterday; though, to be fair, Yaga is always stressed. Still, that doesn’t stop the shiver from running down your spine when he simply turns his head to face you, but remains firmly stuck in place, leaning against the wall next to the doors of the room.
“You’re late,” is all he says.
“ I’m so sorry, ” you sign frantically before bowing deeply, feeling cold sweat gather at the back of your neck and on your palms. You don't even bother telling Yaga that you weren't woken up by the others which is why you were so late, knowing it wouldn’t change a thing at this point.
“If I had realized how late you would be returning from your mission, I would’ve given you the new phone myself,” he seems to sigh deeply. “Would’ve probably saved us some time.”
“ Thank you for that, by the way, ” you grab the phone out of your sweatpants, showing it off for a moment before putting it away.
When you look back up, Yaga’s fingers are pinching the bridge of his nose, his sunglasses discarded in his other hand. You can see the dark circles underneath his eyes more clearly, and you feel guilt wash over you – how badly was he stressing over this?
“Listen, we need to talk,” the teacher takes a step away from the wall to be closer in front of you. “What the hell were you guys thinking yesterday, not putting a veil up?”
Probably because two of us were going deaf while the other was being tossed around like a ragdoll, you think to yourself, briefly looking away for a moment.
“I’m being serious here,” Yaga makes you look back at him by raising a finger at you. “What if a non-sorcerer was around at that time? Do you know how catastrophic that could have been?”
You nod, frowning. Of course, it’s obvious. You cross your arms, shoulders becoming more tense as he takes another step forward, feeling your face warm up uncomfortably.
“This is something you have to take seriously,” he says your name as he continues, face starting to get red in frustration. “I won’t be able to help you if a normal person comes across you using your abilities.”
“ I am taking it seriously, ” you sign back, hands moving in jerks, feeling the nervous sweat start to break out across your entire body. “ What part of this shows I am not taking this seriously? ”
“You should always remember to put up a veil!” Yaga’s arms sweep outwardly, his teeth grinding together, nostrils flaring.
“ Sorry that we were kind of occupied getting our asses beat, sensei,” you reply, mouthing ‘sorry’ as you roll your eyes. The sarcasm is not lost on either of you, infuriating the brunette even further.
“Are you kidding me right now? Don’t give me that,” he says before starting to pace the hallway in short, aggravated steps. He suddenly stops, taking a deep breath and exhaling, then turning back to you. “Maybe it was too early to let you go out on your own.”
Your eyes widen, and you lean back, sucking your cheeks in. “ I dispatched that curse. Is that not what I was meant to do?”
“Without alerting anyone else! And preferably not destroying the area in the process!” Yaga is yelling now, you are sure of it. “Is that all you’re good for?!”
You still.
“Excuse me?”
“ GODDAMN! You do realize the higher-ups are going to lose their shit over this? I’d be surprised if they even let you walk away alive after this!” He continues, completely unbothered by your reaction. “I shouldn’t have let you go in the first place. This was a mistake.”
Yaga’s lips pinch together as he takes another breath, jaw clenched, crossing his arms again as his finger taps anxiously on his bicep. Your back is now pressed against the wall as you try to put as much distance between the two of you as possible, visibly swallowing. Your body is completely rigid, eyes still wide.
The lack of words is heavy, silence palpable amongst you. Your head feels fuzzy, having trouble finding the right words to say. You scratch anxiously at the bandages covering your arms, quickly looking at the clock above the doors before gathering the courage to look back at Yaga. The brunette seems to have finally realized what he said, palm covering his mouth as he looks at you, regret swimming in his eyes.
“ Do you mean it?”
Yaga remains quiet.
The door slowly opens, an elder that you don’t bother remembering the name of peeking his head out. Yaga immediately turns his head to talk to the old man, an exchange that you cannot follow – not that you particularly want to, crossing your arms, body stiff as the anxiety still runs rampant at the back of your mind.
You don't move until you see the door open more widely, letting both you and the teacher walk inside to sit down at the long table. The other members are already present, each of them in their assigned seats, leaving one free. You motion at Yaga to take it, who does so without any protest. You stand next to him, wringing your hands behind your back as your eyes bounce around the room.
“We’ll get right to it,” Gakuganji says, hands resting on the table as he looks over the pages of documents in front of him. “We’ve learned about the events of yesterday’s mission thanks to Suguru Geto and Satoru Gojo.”
You and Yaga both suck in a breath at the same time, looking at each other for a split second before looking back in front of you. You can see the teacher clench his fist tightly at his side, leg bouncing up and down nervously.
“I understand that they messed up. It won’t ever happen again,” Yaga immediately says, trying to salvage the situation. “Please don’t punish them,” he says, briefly looking at you, “we can keep them away for a bit longer before they’re completely acclimated. Killing them is not necessary.”
“Pardon?” Another elder speaks up, slightly tilting his head in confusion.
“...Well– I– in the past, you’ve said that if they were to mess up, you would… kill them,” he trails off. “Is that… not happening?”
“Where did you get that idea from?” The same elder says. “No, we’re beyond elated that the spirit completed the mission.”
Others nod their heads, another elder standing up to talk. “We were reluctant at first,” that’s a mild way to put it, you think to yourself, “but it exorcised the curse quickly and efficiently.”
“It is just a simple bump that they all forgot to put up a veil. Just an unfortunate mistake, is all,” Gakuganji butts into the conversation again. “Gojo and Geto were incapacitated at the time, but they were both adamant that it won’t happen again.”
Yaga nods his head slowly, in complete disbelief. You aren't sure what to think of this either, completely baffled at the sudden change in behaviour from the council.
“It could probably finish missions faster on its own, without any distractions. As long as it has someone else around to cast a veil, it will be fine.” The elder from earlier says.
“Yes, yes, I agree,” another one says, wiping at his long beard. “It would make everyone’s lives easier if we just dispatched it on as many missions as possible. That way, we can focus on our own work and recruit more sorcerers. It doesn’t need much sleep or food, correct?”
“Well, yeah, but–”
“–It’s decided then. Something that can get rid of curses effectively with no second thought, doesn’t need much rest or resources, and has good control of its power shouldn’t go to waste, no? Especially if it avoids any more deaths in our community.”
“So you want to send them out on their own and risk their life instead of others?” Yaga questions them, pressing his hands down on the table as he stands up. He doesn’t seem to be liking the direction this conversation is going in.
“Well, from our observations, it heals more quickly than humans do, and it’ll cost us less. We’re thinking of the bigger picture here, Masamichi.”
The higher-ups already seem to have settled on their decision, and there is no changing their minds. You feel a small flicker of hope – you won’t be killed after all, or put away in some white room to continue to rot in! This is exactly what you were hoping for.
“I think that settles all we wanted to talk about. We’ll be in touch soon to send your spirit out on a new mission.”
With a simple wave of Gakuganji’s hand, he dismisses everyone, and they all slowly trickle out of the meeting room and into the hall until it’s just Yaga and yourself left, standing in the dimly lit room.
The tension is still palpable between the two of you, but neither of you speak up about it. Finally, Yaga turns to you, and you return his direct stare lacking any warmth with a tightness in your own eyes.
“You’re a weapon now,” is all he says. “Congratulations.”
He walks away, leaving you alone.
The next few days pass by in a blur, fall making itself known with overcast weather and clouds that never go away. It’s constantly damp outside, and a small chill starts to accompany each breeze. Normally, you would love this weather – it’s not suffocating like summer is, and you could enjoy being outside more often – but you can’t find it in yourself to appreciate it.
Yaga and you still haven’t talked since your argument. You don't pay attention to the classes, nor does the teacher really spare you a second glance. Any time you enter a room and Yaga is already there, the latter leaves without a word, and vice versa. Gojo, Geto and Shoko seem to be unaware of the tension between the two of you – or maybe they choose to ignore it.
It’s hard to ignore the heavy and oppressive hopelessness that courses throughout your body. You’ve never fought like this before; sure, there have been disagreements, but Yaga has never said anything hurtful until now. Even if everything was spoken in the heat of the moment, it doesn’t lessen the blow of his words. You find it embarrassing how easily it affects you, the deep ache in your chest refusing to waver.
It hits harder than usual on a rainy day, as everyone stays inside to stay dry and warm. You decide you want to prepare yourself a cup of green tea in the communal kitchen, but as you enter, you notice Yaga sitting at the dining table with the comfortable chairs, sipping on his coffee and flitting through a newspaper. You freeze in the doorway, relieved that the teacher hasn’t looked up from his reading material, so you turn around and quietly walk away. You will go outside today, then.
You carefully open the door and step outside in your t-shirt and sweatpants, haphazardly having shoved your converse on. The laces are still untied and you don't even have your shoes on properly, but you don't care about that right now. You need fresh air before the tightness in your chest becomes more unbearable.
You are greeted with the refreshing smell of petrichor once you step outside, your attention immediately drifting over to the small droplets of rain elegantly falling from the sky, carving puddles into the ground below your feet. You’ve taken shelter underneath the protection of the porch, watching as the gentle wind slightly blows the rain sideways. It’s a soft kind of rainfall, the kind where you want to put a hand out and feel the refreshing, stark contrast of the coolness of water against your warm skin. You’re just about to walk out into the rain, but you notice a cloud of smoke permeating from around the corner – then, the telltale smell of tobacco hits your nostrils.
You walk over, turning the corner and being greeted by none other than Shoko herself, enjoying the lack of people outside with a cigarette held between her dainty fingers. Her eyes are closed, head tilted back. She’s dressed in a dark hoodie, leggings, and sandals. The brunette must hear your footsteps across the wood planks, and she slowly opens her eyes, her gentle gaze falling onto you.
“Hey, didn’t realize you were outside too,” she greets you with a small nod. You return the gesture, standing next to her and leaning your body over the rail, resting your arms along it. You feel the old, peeling paint scrape against your skin, making it itchy.
“Want me to put it out?” She asks you, following your actions. A drop of water falls along the bridge of her nose, but she ignores it. You shake your head, unbothered. Actually…
You tend a hand out towards her, fingers outstretched.
Shoko’s eyebrows raise, a small smile playing upon her lips. “Have you even smoked before?”
And yet, she hands you the cigarette anyway.
You shake your head again, looking at the snout held between your fingers before your lips wrap around it, cheeks hollowing as you inhale. The smoke starts curling around you, and the burn in your lungs is immediate, making you start to violently cough, throat sore and head going dizzy for a moment. You can see Shoko laughing from the corner of your eye, taking the cigarette from your hand and taking her own drag as your coughs die down.
“So, thoughts?” She teases you, laughing harder when you just bring your hand up to take it from her lips, taking another drag. “I didn’t think you’d like it, honestly.”
You shrug, feeling the anxiety slowly seep out of your body. No wonder she smokes, especially with all the shit she must see on a daily basis.
You continue to pass the cigarette between yourselves, smoking without exchanging anything else other than small, secretive glances at each other. The sky becomes packed tight with darker clouds, the rainfall starting to grow bigger and heavier, hitting against the dying leaves of the trees. It continues to fall smoothly, the puddles on the ground expanding.
“I love this weather,” Shoko admits, making you turn your full attention to read her lips. “I’m not fond of the cold, but the rain makes everything so quiet. ”
I wouldn’t know , you think to yourself.
“Not many people like to be outside when it’s like this, so there’s no cars honking at each other, no businessmen getting in arguments over the phone, no children crying… it’s just so peaceful.”
You look out to the rain again, the scenery becoming a variety of muted shades of grey as the clouds cover any sunlight. Bright colours aren’t as overwhelming, and there’s nobody else outdoors except for the two of you. It feels like it gives you a moment of reprieve, a moment that you only share with one person. Maybe this is what being quiet is like.
“Why are you out here, anyways? Aren’t you cold?” She asks you, smoke tumbling from her lips. There’s a moment where she just stares at you, before her mouth forms a small ‘oh’ shape, and she turns around to rummage through her bag that rests on the bench pressed against the wall.
She returns with a small notebook and pencil in hand. “I keep an extra one around now.”
Gratefully, you take it from her hands to write.
- My body runs warmer than most. It’s why I hate the summer. And I just needed some fresh air, I’m guessing that’s the same for you.
“Something like that,” she muses after reading. “You look like you’ve got something on your mind.”
You give her a tight-lipped smile, one that doesn’t reach your mismatched eyes. You look down at the blank page in the notebook, thinking for a moment.
- Yaga and I got into a fight.
Shoko gives you a grimace, quickly taking another drag. “Yeah… about that, we kinda figured.”
You sigh out, cringing to yourself, but you aren't surprised. You would be shocked if the entirety of the campus somehow didn’t hear Yaga yelling, considering how you felt the ground vibrate underneath you at that moment.
It takes the brunette a moment to gather her thoughts, but when she does, she stomps down on the old cigarette and lights a new one, immediately handing it over to you.
“He’s looking out for you, truthfully,” she says, looking down at the snout held between your lips. “He’s worried you’ll get unfairly punished.”
You give it back to her, holding the pencil in your hand instead.
- Is that all I am, though? A weapon?
Shoko’s eyebrows pinch together. “Tell me, why do you fight curses?”
You look at her like it’s the most obvious thing in the world.
- Because I want the world to be safe.
“Who doesn’t?” She smiles half-heartedly. “Ask anyone around here that, they’ll probably give me that exact answer. Hell, I have to admit that I want that too.”
She suddenly looks at you directly in the eyes, which makes you nervously direct your gaze to her lips.
“Why do you fight them?” She asks again.
It takes you a moment to pick up the pencil again.
- Isn’t that all I’m good for?
Her eyes are stuck on the words written in the notebook, and she nods lightly to herself.
“I’m a healer,” she starts to say. “I have the ability to use reverse cursed technique, so I heal. That’s my job. I’m not the best fighter– I don’t have that kind of strength. I have to watch others get hurt so that I can heal them. Rinse and repeat, so on and so forth. I’m rarely sent out on missions because I’m such an asset , you can thank the elders for that title.”
She takes a deep drag from the cigarette, exhaling smoke through her nose, the wisps twisting around the two of you.
“I feel useless.”
- You a~
She quickly grasps your hand, stopping you from writing anything else. “No, I know. But for some reason, I think you, of all people, would understand me the most. You know, it’s a thought process you can’t exactly shake quite so easily.”
“I watch from the sidelines as my friends get injured. I have to wait for them to come to me, beaten and bloody, sometimes on the verge of death, just so I can finally lend a hand. My worth only matters because I can bring them back. But one day, maybe I won’t. What will I be worth then?”
She lets her words hang in the air, a stronger gust of wind sending the rain flying towards you for a second. You finally, truly look at Shoko. She looks exhausted, the dark circles underneath her eyes too heavy for someone her age. Her shoulders are slumped forward as she curls in on herself, tired from the constant burden she carries on her shoulders. It’s no wonder that she’s mentally exhausted, too.
You pick up the pencil again. You turn away from her, hiding the paper so that she can’t read it.
- I only know how to bring destruction, how to kill. I only have the ability to use my most destructive element, unless I want to painfully rot any further. Before I came here, my purpose was that of a weapon. I left to get a better life. But look at me now, I’m in the same spot all over again, my only purpose is to serve the elders.
You look behind yourself to take a quick glance at her, who simply looks back at you curiously. You see the blood staining her hands, blood that should be on your own instead, an ancient duty that you neglected long ago. Shame washes over you. You turn back to the notebook.
- I’ll make sure to wipe every single curse from this place. That way, you don’t have to wait for your friends to be hurt to help. None of you will do anything. You can live.
You hand the book back to her. Her deep brown eyes scrutinize every single word carefully, and she sighs out deeply before she starts laughing. Her shoulders shake violently, tears forming at the corner of her eyes, and you can see the way her back jumps as she hiccups.
“You’re hopeless,” Shoko says, followed by your name, her eyes full of warmth as she looks at you. “Really fucking hopeless.”
You smile awkwardly, tilting your head to the side in complete confusion but nodding along. Sure, whatever you mean.
“We really are stupid, huh? I think the dumbest decision I’ve made in my entire life is… well, joining this life,” she continues speaking after her laughter has died down. Your eyes grow hazy as a memory rears its head, sending you spiraling into the past.
Fuck.
You nearly yell it out loud, lips forming the word before you realize it.
FUCK.
Your hands desperately grasp at your head as you hunch over the railing, feeling something creep up at the back of your throat. It wasn’t a delusion, you fucking moron, he was unstable from the very beginning. You vaguely feel a hand against your back, but the touch feels so far away as you feel the breath get stuck in your lungs.
A dumb decision, indeed.
As you throw up over the side of the porch, your mind keeps screaming at you through your ragged breaths and the stench of bile heavy in the air, mixed in with the dew from the rain.
The dumbest decision.
After dropping you off at your dorm room and making sure you were okay (and a billion reassurances signed her way), Shoko finally feels comfortable enough leaving you alone to return to her own room to sleep the rest of the day away. Even after throwing up what little you had in your stomach, you feel completely restless and can’t lay still in bed.
You don't understand the sudden onslaught of paranoia and anxiety – you had been doing so well lately, besides the angst surrounding your latest argument – as you were coming to terms with your new lifestyle. There was no need to look twice over your shoulder and around every corner for any semblance of your past, you were an entire continent away from it. Nevertheless, it doesn’t seem to quell the unintelligible screaming at the back of your mind, so you get up, heading to the communal kitchen once more.
This time, it’s empty – no Yaga around, nor any student or other staff member.
Thank god.
You absentmindedly walk up to the counter where the electric kettle is, rummaging through the overhead cupboard to find your favourite brand of green tea like you always do. It’s a fluid, yet robotic motion – it’s become secondhand nature after years of doing it. After turning the kettle on, you grab two mugs and put a separate bag of tea inside of each. Once the kettle’s light turns off, you pour the boiling water into them, bringing them over to the dining table.
Once you sit down, you realize there’s no one else to drink from the other mug. Apparently, the ritual was a bit too much of a secondhand nature. You and Yaga have always shared a moment in the day to drink tea together, without fail.
…And now you’re both avoiding each other like the plague.
You look over at the second cup of tea pathetically, feeling disappointed in yourself.
Even so, you sip at your own mug, feeling the comforting warmth spread throughout your body. The taste lingers on your tongue, and you feel a vibration at the back of your throat – a small, quiet satisfied hum, if you were to guess.
You aren't left to sadly ruminate on your own for much longer, however. Two familiar men join you at the table, a duo you haven't seen in quite some time.
“Hiya, I hope you don’t mind us joining you!” Haibara enthusiastically greets you, a large smile spread wide across his face. Nanami takes the seat next to you, across from Haibara, as the brunette sits on your other side.
Eyebrows raised in surprise, you shake your head, gesturing to the seats in a welcoming manner.
“It’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Haibara rubs the back of his neck, an apologetic look in his eyes. “Sorry about that.”
“I don’t think it makes much difference to them, I’m sure they’re busy,” Nanami says, putting his stack of books down on the table, quickly flitting through one before closing it.
You shake your head again, very quickly this time. You regret not bringing your notebook with you, chastising yourself at the back of your mind.
“ It’s ok, ” you sign, hoping that the simple motion of your fingers is enough to reassure them both.
“ I’m not busy at all, ” you continue, though you’re sure that’s a bit too complicated. You notice that both of the men’s eyes watch your hands carefully, which makes your lips quirk up very subtly.
“Nanami knows more sign language than I do,” Haibara says, pointing to the blonde across from him. “He’s been reading up since he met you.”
“They don't need to know that,” Nanami hisses at him, cheeks taking on a slight shade of pink before turning to address you. “But yes, I’ve got some basic words down.”
You feel your chest warm, but not from the tea this time. The subtle smile grows across your face. “ For me? ”
“Well, yes. Who else? We don’t know anyone else who’s deaf or mute.”
You nod along. “ Thank you very much,” you sign.
“Oh, that one’s thank you! It has to be. Nanami has been trying to drill it into my head!” Haibara speaks up again, pointing at your hand motions.
“Why are you painting me in such a bossy light?”
“Because you absolutely are.” The brunette deadpans.
“I’m determined, not bossy. I want us to be able to understand them easily, and I’m sure they’d appreciate it too.”
“ I really do, ” you lean in between the two of them as you sign.
“Anyways, why are you here all alone?” Haibara asks. Nanami glares at him, but keeps his mouth shut. “You look so sad,” that certainly gets him a whack over the head from the blonde. “Wh– OW!”
You laugh quietly, shrugging your shoulders as you give them a mirthless smile. “It’s nothing. ”
“...We were the ones who overheard sensei yelling at you,” Nanami admits. “We told Shoko about it. I apologize if that was invasive.”
You wave him off. Yaga rarely gets that angry, honestly. You would be surprised if they didn’t tell anyone about it.
“He sounded really emotional,” Haibara says, the look on his face suddenly serious. “His voice was shaking – like he was on the verge of tears, or something.”
That surprises you. Obviously, you can’t hear what people sound like, and can’t hear when their voices waver, or are sarcastic, or cold, nothing . You usually have to pick up on cues, but that can be hard at times.
“I’ve never heard him sound like that before,” Nanami says as well. “If it’s any comfort, he’s been moping around in class the past few days.”
“He kinda reminds me of a moody teenager,” Haibara laughs, giving you another charming, comforting smile.
“I wouldn’t worry about this too much, honestly,” the blonde continues. “He’ll come around eventually.” Awkwardly, he reaches across the table and pats your hand gently before quickly retracting it, his face turning a darker hue of pink.
You thank them both again, feeling lighter than before. The two men look between each other and nod before getting up, bidding you a good afternoon. You continue to sip at the rest of your tea, the melancholic feeling that once loomed over you in a heavy cloud nearly completely evaporated. Just as you empty your cup, a broad figure sits down across from you.
Yaga doesn’t have his sunglasses on, making it easy for you to see the remorseful look on the teacher’s face. He points at the other cup that has been left untouched.
“ May I?” He signs.
You nod.
Yaga’s large hand wraps around the ceramic, taking slow sips of the drink. His eyes remain on the table in front of him while yours are on him, carefully watching every move he makes. There’s no anxiety bubbling in the bottom of your stomach, weirdly enough, just a strange lack of any emotion. You both sit in complete motionless silence, undisturbed by anyone else. It’s completely still, save for Yaga drinking his tea.
Once he finishes his tea, the man puts his empty cup on the table, finally looking directly at you, whose gaze immediately goes down to the teacher’s lips instead.
Instead of signing, or speaking, Yaga reaches across the table to gently grab your hands, his long fingers wrapping around them in a comforting and solid hold. He bows his head down slightly, looking at your conjoined hands. Your fingers twitch, the unusual soft touch putting your body on high alert, but you can’t find it in yourself to pull away; you decide to give yourselves this tender moment. There’s a slight tremble to Yaga’s shoulders, one that you try – and fail – to ignore.
“I don’t want them to hurt you,” is all you read upon his lips.
You slowly retract your hands, shaking Yaga out of his stupor. Vaguely knowing your discomfort with touch, he’s about to apologize, but you move your hands more quickly.
“It’s okay ,” you sign.
“I forgive you.”
You smile at each other, and it finally feels like you can breathe properly again.
After days of overcast weather, the clouds part as the sun sets.

Katalepsis after live-read thoughts collection
So, now that im caught up about in time for book 1 to end, i am just regurgitating half-thoughts ive had along the ride, doing some retrospection and working my way through all the stuff i still want to draw.
I think thats one of the big things i really noticed and appreciated about katalepsis. Theres just drawability to it. I havent decided yet if its Hungrys writing style in general, the genre, or most likely, a characteristic of Heathers that got me to figure out i can use my laptop as a drawing tablet. Heather in her internal monologue just has a real appreciation for spaces.
A space is rarely a backdrop to do a scene in, the places and buildings and dimensions are characters to heather in a way that just makest a lot of sense for someone who grew up seeing the personified spirits of the everyday world as well as the varied wilds of Outside.
When the Stairwell trap is sprung, theres a very real feeling of betrayal, the willow house has forsaken raine and heather, who previously thought it a sanctuary.
We later learn that the space was bound, artificial, forced to act against its inhabitants in a way a house usually would not, which fits some themes that come up waaaaayy later.
I originally thought this would just be a quirk of heathers, some flavor to her thought processes, but it really did get picked up as an actual story beat, not just an aesthetic, with the soul of edward lilburnes house.
The Outside places are a bit more metaphorical about this, but strangely more clearly alive as well. The Library is an extension of the catalogue, wonderland is dominated by the eye. Ooran Juhs Projected space is his own physical gullet. Carcosa is the stage of a living play. The very first outside space we get to properly see is on the back of some giant creature, hairs and all.
Theres just Personality to every place that keeps them all so very, very vivid.
Ive been planning to draw wonderland ever since the mirror incident at the very beginning of the story, and in a very funny way, as ive drawn other stuff along the way ive been training for wonderland and the eye along with the cast. I really want to do it justice.
Staying on said cast for a bit, ive already talked about raine for a good bit, but theyre all amazing. I was always happy to see that an arc or a few chapters would become a cast members designated backstory time, because i really do want to know more about them and how they work as people. After about the middle point of the story though, those moments and how they connected became pretty hard for me to keep track off
For a reader who was along for the ride since the start, having to wait between chapters as they come out, the pacing probably works way better than it did for me.
I found myself really wishing for more time with the spookycule in each stage of development it had. Early katalepsis with just raine evee and heather is probably where it was the closest to ideal for me, in terms of just vibes i enjoy and things to keep track of.
I dont want to be too analytical, im bad at that, but for example we only see the fractal used to banish a sharrowford cult servitor once.
There could have been way more time spent in the twilight of magic, the street level zone, where every accidental slip outside is a moment of grand terror, and heather learns to live with the idea that the spirits are real.
For someone who gets called “Shaman” a lot later on, we only really see her asking a spirit for directions once (the wrecking ball hands gorilla), where i was expecting that to become a very integral bit of her kit as a character. I love the cephalopod changeling we got instead, but i do feel there could have been a heather who learned to work with her non brain pain vomit inducing abilities for practical reasons, at least for a little while.
After that comes the Messenger demon and maisies message. Knowing the rest of the story, i love that the primary motivation set up here has jack and shit to do with Ed or Alex. This isnt a story about killing the bad guy, its in a very serious way a story about love and that is what should motivate the characters.
Ed and Alex really are just invaders to the story, who grasp at threads that should not concern them at all, with their meddling eventually causing the collapse of Alexs portion of the cult under the Eyes gaze.
I dont quite know how much actual space is in between Kimberly and Zheng joining the household, but this is really the part of the story where just a lot happened at once. We get both badger and sarika, the entire abyss transformation and zheng so very close together.
During the time of the dead hands there is actually some breathing room though. Mostly because set dead hands keep us consigned to a breathable atmosphere for a bit.
The other big stretch of story that i wish lasted longer is the post proposal journey with sevens and saldis through carcosa. Given how time works outside, that whole stretch of time could have really stretched for a while without threatening the maisie limit, and i do wish that some of sevens later character development had happened in here, since i didnt quite know what to think of her after they left the palace, whereas right now in the end she is one of my favourites. I still dont know what i think of the king in yellow being in this story at all, but thats a me issue.
Yeah, so given that most of the smaller thoughts ive already posted in the liveread chat, i guess ive now covered my two big thoughts. I love how katalepsis treats spaces, and the only thing i had any problems with was the pacing, which tbh might just be because i didnt take my time when reading at all.
Time for even less structured thoughts now, just a rapid fire of things that come to mind after reading:
I hope we eventually get a perspective on the worlds cosmology from a mage fully unconnected to the vaguely interconnected british underworld of mages, im very curious how deeply different interpretations of outside, the abyss, demons and beyonders a person might have if they never interacted with the humunculus wars environment. The abyss beeing wet and aquatic seemed to be a general truth, to edward, zheng and even lozzie, until we met taika for example. I want to see more of that.
I said earlier that sevens has become one of my favourites, which is kinda stupid since most characters are my favourite at something by some measure, but Raine and Evee are still the two that are the most meaningful or connected to me. Ive already gone into maybe too much detail on how Raine just works in a way that ive never seen portrayed in anything for some reason. What i havent really realized until about now is how similar evees struggle is. There is that same need to feel useful. They both define their fundamental self via a skill that is in some way repulsive to them for whatever reason, and must cling to another to point them in a direction where they feel they can use it to do good. Evee has to feel useful, has to justify her presence and her dangerous knowledge to herself to some degree, and helping heather is how she does it for now.
The fundamental difference i think is that Raine chose to define herself that way, as knight errant, as supporter, while evee feels any other option to act on the world was taken from her by her mother. This mostly takes the form of her physical disability often stopping her from acting in time, reaching places, but also stopping her anorgasmia seemingly stopping her from loving in the way she thinks is correct (at that point of the story at least. Both of those are changing of course, mostly thanks to Praem).
It kind of lines up with Kimberly in a funky way, since she essentially decided not to use sorcery to justify her presence, both in the house and the story, but still remained around and appreciated, as a sort of in universe counterpoint to evees negative view of herself.
Thats all i can think of for now, i dont actually now how to end this, this isnt a sotry analysis, i have no conclusion except that im glad i caught up so close to the end, because im excited to see all of us react to whatever crazy shit is going down live!

A raven whispered on death's shoulder. Ash in its voice and black eyes shimmering with a message. 'New life. New bearer.'
Death furrowed her brows, the upper half of her face masked by a skull of bones. Jagged and sharp, a black hood casting the rest of her in shadows. "Are you sure?"
'Oh yes, exuberant this one.' The raven crowed, ruffling up its feathers.
Beatrice fought the urge to sigh. "For what I've learned, that's a common attribute."
The raven shook its head, which was more like a quick twitch of the neck to the left. 'Not like others. Life before.'
That made her turn, just enough to face the black bird. "She was human?"
'Yes yes, they've chosen someone with a name.'
She frowned. It bothered her, not because they had chosen someone who once was mortal but the fact that she didn't have an answer as to why. She thrived in the comfort of knowledge. She never wandered. Her steps had as much purpose as the souls she retrieved and the realm that came after. But this made her wonder. It made her want to stray away from the calculated path she'd created for herself to take a look at the new bearer.
Beatrice shook her head, and thus the slipping thought of straying away from her duty. She told herself it didn't matter. That lingering on it was foolish. "Let's hope they've chosen wisely then."
—
You would think that life and death would cross paths more often than the sun rose in the sky or the moon pulled the water to shore.
But Beatrice was like a shadow, her footsteps light and hands gentle as she swept them over a body to bring the soul to her realm.
Quiet and proficient.
She felt no need to linger in the world of the living.
The first time Beatrice saw life she was sitting on the side of the road, her yellow coat that dressed her like the sun itself casting a pleasant light on the otherwise dark city.
Rain poured down but didn't seem to bother her. Patterning against her cloak before trailing down and dropping to the ground. She was smiling, looking down as she talked to someone Beatrice couldn't see. For all she knew, she wasn't talking to anyone at all.
"Hello?"
Life whipped her head up and Beatrice couldn't help but stare at her eyes. Golden brown. She got this strong feeling that those alone were the inspiration for how fire wanted to behave. Wild and dancing. Certainly, unmistakably alive.
They flickered with something Beatrice couldn't depict. Then she tilted her head to the side, brown strands of hair slipping over her eyes as her smile widened. "We have been waiting for you."
Beatrice forced herself to look down. "We?"
"Yes, Blu just wanted to watch the rain for the last time."
She saw him then, the entire reason she was brought here in the first place. The cat's tail stuck out from under lifes cloak, slowly going back and forth. "He's a little nervous."
"There's no need. It's simply a pass between two realms." The answer was automatic.
"You make it sound so irrelevant."
"Excuse me?"
Life leaned down and moved her cloak slightly, revealing a tiny nose and ears that turned down in alarm. Its translucent body shimmering a soft blue. "It's a pretty big deal for him so it is for me too."
Beatrice pressed her lips together. She would certainly not regard it as irrelevant. But wasn't it that simple? Just something that was a part of life – or what came after.
"It's a big deal for you?"
Life nodded. "Of course it is! I mean, just look at them. Everything they have been through and what has shaped them to who they are."
"I don't see why that's important."
"Not important?" Life flung up and Beatrice couldn't help but take a step back when she began walking towards her. "Don't you speak to them? Don't you see how important this is because it is a part of their journey. It is nothing irrelevant." She stood close to her now, the cat tucked in her arms, watching her wearily. "Isn't it your job to make sure they feel safe while crossing over?"
She was staring at her now, those brown eyes boring into her and she had to consciously tell herself not to squirm. "I can assure you that they are safe with me."
To Beatrice's surprise, life shook her head at the answer. "Don't tell me that. Tell Blu."
Beatrice never really talked to the souls she needed to bring with her. There was no need to. Her job was only to make sure they crossed between the realms safely.
And she had certainly not learnt any name. She had always been told it was disadvantageous. A name was a connection. A connection to something she couldn't have. Couldn't savour. Because before she knew it, they were gone. She was the bridge, and bridges weren't meant for anyone to bide.
Her lips twitched, and she took her hand forward to sweep over the anxious cat. "It's not wise to form a connection with a soul. It will only Impede in what must be done."
Life watched as the cat's body slowly fragmented to what looked like small stars. Trailing around her hand and collecting in deaths folded hands.
Beatrice turned to leave.
"No way you really believe that."
She stopped, jaw tightening. "Look, I know you're new to this but you need to understand, this is our duty. Not a game."
"I don't think this is a fucking game, just," she threw her hand ups helplessly. "I don't know. I don't even know why they chose me."
She couldn't help but look her over then. The emotions etched in her face, more prominent than what should be considered acceptable. She looked too human. Still, Beatrice didn't correct her on it, couldn't help but be intrigued. Why did they choose her? "They must have had their reasons."
She jerked her shoulders up. "Maybe, for all I know it could be an acciden–"
"No, that's not possible." It came out sharper than she expected and life took a step away. Beatrice opened her mouth to apologise but stopped herself last second, instead turning away. "It doesn't matter now, I need to leave."
"Hey, wai-"
Beatrice closed her eyes. She was gone before life could finish her sentence. She sighed when she realised where she was. The darkness was familiar.
The raven crowed from where it sat. 'I told you.'
"Don't start it."
Yeah, this was going to be a problem.

Mike rolls out his shoulders for what feels like the billionth time this shift, cursing whoever decided what the average height for counters was supposed to be. He’s trying to work on his posture — his mom nags him about it — but when he’s constantly having to hunch over to pull espresso shots, it’s out of his control at that point. Sue the counter-measurement-person. He’s been here for six and a half hours, and while he normally loves his morning shift, the pungent smell of roasting coffee beans is serving no purpose but nausea.

The first thing Will sees when he wakes up is snow, delicately falling out of the sky against the perfect evergreen tree outside the window in his room.
The second thing he sees are wild, red curls flying in the air before a body is crashing into his on top of the piles of blankets he and Mike had stolen from the main room last night because Will hates being cold.
“Mmmpph,” Will groans.

A week into the Byers being back in Hawkins, rain falls. It begins overnight and feels like the town is getting washed and rinsed from its sins.

El Hopper enjoys her new job. She feels at home — giggling with five-year-olds all day long, decorating her classroom with sparkles and colors, and watching their little minds activate and mold as the weeks go on. Communicating with their parents isn’t always fun, but for the most part, she’s overjoyed that she chose to become a kindergarten teacher.

"Looks like you've made a lot of progress since I was here last."
Will's shoulders rise quickly to meet his ears, and he looks back from the large canvas he is poring over – a commission for a big client he's been working on for weeks. He turns around to find Mike standing in the middle of his studio, a toothy smile spread across his face and holding two coffee cups.
‘cause if we don’t leave this town
“Okay, I think that’s everything.”
Will hears an accomplished exhale from Lucas and the sound of the U-Haul door slamming as he sluggishly climbs into the back seat of the Sinclair family Expedition, which was passed down to Lucas when he graduated high school.
when it ends
"You're staring," Will says from the other side of the couch. His hair is a little messy, growing out so it flips up off the back of his neck the way Mike loves. He's wearing one of Mike's crewnecks with shorts and socks that stop above his ankles. His legs are scrunched up like he's trying to make himself small – a default position for Will when his mind is elsewhere.
"Do you not want me to?" Mike wonders.
tried and true blue
"Okay, and—yeah, that's fine sweetheart, of course I want to see you—no, Lucas won't mind—you're sure you're okay, though?—drive safe, I love you," is the half-conversation Lucas hears Mike murmur into the telephone receiver in the kitchen.
if only to say you’re mine
"I think it's kinda cool how everyone's more eager to celebrate the little things now, after almost losing so much," Will ponders after Max voices criticism at the frivolous decorations around Hawkins High.

A letter from Hanji to Levi | post chapter 132 |
For Levi's month.
And for all of us who've ever lost someone to this world.
.
.
I'll wait for you.
Where the water meets the skies and stars dive into a deep sea of sand.
I'm okay. Here, cold doesn't burn and flowers never dry and I'm not afraid of life's own, fleeting fragility.
Now, my feet are bare and my hands hold nothing but sweet time to spend. Or is it time a mere human construction we've once hoped to tame?
Maybe, here, I just simply measure time in different dreams:
The tiny freckles that rain over your cheeks, like a million galaxies wide dotting over the nightfall. The spoons of sugar you put into your tea. The subtle glitching of your lips, when you can't help but melt into a smile; rare as it is.
I have no rush, although I miss you. Here, where the grass grows evergreen, I've learnt the art of patience.
Or maybe, my heart just froze the day it's been ripped from yours. And time stopped, then, too.
But don't you worry about me, my love. I'm still one in the same; a spirit wild and colorfully reckless, as you've always remembered me to be.
And each sunset when you whisper my name, I'm alive in another breath.
I'm not up or down. No left nor right. Here, the winds lull me with songs from places I've never dared walk, and my hair dances in the lavender breeze: tangled and rebellious and free all over again.
I've heard once, warm things are graced to those who wait. So I spy on you, every now and again, to avoid the kid in me run impatient towards your embrace.
And I play in-disguise, careful not to break the rules. And I send you signals only you and I are able to understand; for words have been forbidden eternal between us.
So I ruffle your curtains and chant with your kettle. I leave footsteps imprinted on the sea-shores, and paint your memory into the clouds that roll.
I let traces of me slide onto the Earth as I sit, ever so relentless. And I wish, with an innocence brighter than sunrise, that you'll be attentive enough to notice. That my slight indiscretions will one day make you happy.
Because I'm not gone, but a flickering presence. I'm not far, but buried very deep inside you: in the kind centres of your chest. In the gentle drumbeat of your pulse. In the corners of the house your love has long before built for me, big or small.
So don't you cry, my oh so brave boy. Don't you allow yourself pray to my taunting ghost.
Don't you know I turn to ash when your nightmares call? How helpless I ache when you say you want to become invisible, like birds migrating off to spring?
I've heard once, reuiniting is softer to those who've guarded with patience. And, as I watch silver threads crown your head of jemstones, my soul is easily sure, now:
Our moment can wait, still. You can arrive late. Get on the very last train, on the very last minute. Hug and hold and squeeze life until it's been down to its weakest, final drop.
And I'll be here. Always. With both arms open and a smile like fireworks.
And you'll fade into me as you race. And I'll braid poppys in between black locks. And we'll be able to speak, for all those other nights war payed for the silence in our souls.
But I have no rush, my golden soldier, although I do miss you. Don't you see? For once, I can forsake my longing, keep it hidden in the back-pocket.
Because every time you laugh, a glimpse of fire ignites my lungs. And i can inhale back to consciousness for a while.
And every time your eyes tell me you're okay, too, my heart can lay in peace: if only a little bit longer.
So take your time, my brightest Levi. Because time does not exist where I am.
And I'm still the same.
And I want you to live long, but not fast.
Don't you recall?
Between you and I, farewells are nothing but vanishing scars; your fist on my chest, our gazes making up promises to the sun.
When we let the words collide, bleeding hopeless from our lips, we can bend the horizon between our fingers. We can be immortal, even if just for a futile, magical moment.
Because, when you look at me, and I answer in ways only you will ever read, we're accomplices to eachother. Forever partners in crime.
And so, I'll wait for you.
Because, if it's up to us, it's never goodbye.
But a "see you later".

Hear me out:
I want a game with a powerful couple thats disgustingly deeply in love.
I want the hero to have to go to this magical couple that had to do the unthinkable for the world and are now in kind of retirement. She a elemental spirit, he her former knight who fought on her side.
(Yes this is very much Dragon's Dogma inspired when it comes to the pawn and the arisen. Please deal with it, I'm trying to sell you something.)
They get send there by a wise ruler who knows of their story who got shared over generations and is now more of a fairytale even though its the history of the Kingdom. A story of true love.
The hero arrives at their home that is a little house deep in a big forrest that is filled to the brim with flowers, and meet a relativ normal looking couple who is laughing away while they have a little water fight going on.
Of course they say yes to help, as it is an important task and impacts them as well if the hero doesn't get the help they need.
But only he can go :( because she has to stay behind to hold the balance of the elements. If she leaves there, they would go wild after a while, causing additional trouble for the mortal world. So before they part, she gives her lover a stone that is a bridge between their worlds. This way he can summon her whenever he wishes or needed. It would be okay if she is away for a few hours, but she can't come with them on their journey for days or weeks. When they leave her, it rains because she is sad that she has to part with her love.
So, we have the setting, now back to the main idea!
When in battle, the player can ask the knight to summon his wife and the summoning is the cutest stuff you have ever seen.
He is like: "Come to me, my love!" or "Lend me your strengh, my heart!" "My heart is longing for you!" You get the idea. While summoned, the group has a forcefield around them, protected from harm. She manyfests somewhere above them to cast this spell and then softly floats down (or lets herself fall) into her husbands arms and they share a sweet kiss and laugh, happy about the reunion, before he sets her down.
(Please don't ask me how exactly she works, I have no idea without making her OP. Maybe she uses the elements the monsters are weak against and puts a spell on everyones weapons with that while casting shield spells.)
When the fight is done, she makes a full health, no bad stats, full mana whatever spell. Then she will stay with your group for a while as an NPC, walking with her husband while holding hands, cuddling up to him when you stand, and kiss or talk about the surroundings as IDLE stuff. Maybe even making sure her lover is okay, asking him if he isn't hot in his armor and if you are in a hot surrounding, she will cast an ice spell on it to keep him cool. It has no real impact on him in a fight or so, its just cute that she cares.
When at a camp, every two nights he will summon his wife because he misses her so much ♥ they then have a little date, gazing at the stars, later keeping them company by the fire. Sometimes, when in a City or in a save little space, they might dissapear for a bit together... if you get what I mean *eyebrow wiggle*
I want them to be loving and careing to each other. Like they still have a brutal crush on each other even after hundred of years. Just adorable lovebirds. Pure sugar.
And the most important part: THEY STAY LIKE THAT! NONE OF THEM GETS KILLED OR SOME SHIT NO ONE NEEDS OR ASKS FOR!
Badly hurt: Okay, we can have that, but not that they would die.
I want to see them cuddling under a tree, one of them napping, in the credits! Just them being happy to be together again.
Thats my idea :) So if you work at a game company, feel free to use that. I want the summoning on a lvl of Final Fantasy, okay? I want them full HD and magical as heck. Their love should be super-ultra-HD and the must beautiful stuff you have ever seen. Throw in these orbs, glowing flowers, stars, etc. Make it "Wooooowww" and "Awwwwwwwww ♥"

.:Freedom Run:.
.:InFAMOUS: No Man's Land Chapter 2:.
Hey guys! I never thought that I would enjoy writing so much that I would want to continue to write and create a full fledged story! I had so much fun writing "Breaking the Shackles" that I'm now going whole hog and making a fanfiction! So I guess I could consider it Chapter 1!
A big thank you to RogueShadeaux. She has been a big help and I have been learning a lot from her as well! She's been a huge motivator and we have been having a blast bouncing around ideas. Check out her stuff, she deserves all the love!
Don't know if it's needed, but I'll put it here anyways. Spoiler warning and this is from Cole's POV.
I hope you guys enjoy Chapter 2 of InFAMOUS: No Man's Land.
“Cole!” I hear the harpy’s voice cry out, but I don’t listen. “Cole!!” She shouts again, but it falls on deaf ears. She cries and cries and I don’t hear, all I can hear is the crunching of dirt and stone under my feet and the thumping of my heart in my ears.
Ahead of me was the whole of the Great Plains: its vast horizons sprawling out before me as far as the eye could see, beckoning me to come and join the Conduits that call these untamed lands home. A call I had been ignoring for far too long, but not anymore. My heart beats wildly in my chest as I rush towards the endless expanse before me. My mind is full of the possibilities that await me; but also clear and focusing on the prize.
Dark, rumbling clouds follow me as I make my mad dash through the tall grasses and dry dirt, the wind kicking up around me and blowing at my back. Nature was urging me on. Heh, ain’t that something. The world is working with me for once in my damn life and I ain’t complaining one bit. Adrenaline coursing through my veins as my legs carry me forward as the wind pushes me on. It was like I was a ship on the open seas; sailing towards the unknown.
Farther and farther I run. I don’t dare look back, I don’t even want to. I was finally free from that damn gilded cage that I had been trapped in; why the hell would I look back? All that was there is a responsibility that wasn’t mine to carry in the first place! People that deprived me of even the simplest needs of peace and quiet. Fuck them, fuck them all!!
Fuck them. All.
The land extends endlessly in front of me as I push on. The storm above me thundering and flickering as I run. For the first time in my life, I am running with no direction in mind: No purpose to serve, no so-called destiny or fate that demands to be fulfilled, not even the smallest inkling of urgency to be anywhere. I just run. I run and run like how the wild animals that roamed these grasslands do. Such a feeling, it was intoxicating.
I can feel the burn in my muscles, but I don’t stop. If anything, the burn adds to the rush. I won’t stop; I don’t want to stop! Not until I choose to stop! God, this sensation… It feels so good, like a cool glass of water on a scorching day.
Instinct and muscle memory take hold as I tackle some of the more rocky terrain, vaulting over stones. Never in my life had I had such a wide space where I could run for hours and hours, a straight shot in every which way! Now here I am, my feet kicking up dust into the gusting wind as I bound over any and all obstacles. I could go any direction: left, right, north, south, east, west, it doesn’t matter! All this space, all this land. It was mine; mine for the taking, mine to travel as I saw fit.
All mine.
I feel a chill down my spine as the storm intensifies. Lightning starts crashing around me: electrifying the air, fueling me. Even with my muscles screaming at me, my body felt energized and light. I practically feel like I’m flying; maybe I am! It hardly matters as all that is on my mind is to keep going. At this very moment, nothing matters. Nothing fucking matters! The only thing that filled my head was the freedom I now have. It could be pissing down rain or a twister could be howling and it wouldn’t fucking matter. If anything, I would welcome it! It would only add to the high.
My eyes widen as the black and crimson bolts light up the blackened sky, blood rushing through my veins as my heart hammers in my chest. The smile on my face borderlining on manic. This… This… Was the freedom I hungered for, the freedom I was deprived of ever since the day I was born. This… Is true freedom. No responsibilities, no obligations, not even titles. There was no Demon of Empire City, no Electric Man, no Beast. There wasn’t even Human or Conduit. There is only Cole MacGrath. Only me in my truest and rawest form. I was a man, wild and free as I should have been from the very beginning!
My eyes spot the ruins of an old oil boomtown and I rush towards it, the storm hot on my heels as I start to climb and run across the abandoned buildings. Leaping and jumping, darting and gliding, going wherever I damn well pleased! Lightning strikes around me as I turn this town into a personal jungle gym. I spot the tallest oil rig in this crumbling ruin and I make a beeline towards it.
As I climb, I feel a drop of water on my face as rain starts to fall, but it didn’t stop me. No, it only urged me on. Every grip, every pull. I could feel my body heating up as electricity arched off the layer of water that was forming on my skin. I could swear it was heating up to the point where it was turning the liquid into steam. If anyone could see me, I bet I looked terrifying. Good.
I keep climbing until reaching the top, hoisting myself up to perch on the peak. The metal creaking and groaning under my feet as it holds my weight. My eyes surveys the land around me, all ripe for the taking. All mine. The manic grin grows wider as a thought flits in my head.
Now would be the perfect time to announce to the world who is now free.
I close my eyes as I focus in. Feeling the electricity coursing through my body like live wires; feeling the energy build and build. The storm reacts in kind as it builds in strength and intensity: wind gusting wildly, rain pouring down and thunder booming like cannon-shots all around me. I can feel it in my chest, a pressure, a spring inside tightening. The twisted sparks jump and arch off of my hands and arms as the rain steams off of my heating skin. My chest heaves as I breathe, letting the pressure build. Letting all the pain that I have suffered, the agony I was forced to endure burn in my heart. My lips curl into a sneer as I growl, feeling the sting of the hurt. It burns and boils my blood until the dam breaks.
My mouth opens wide and my chest tightens, but I hear no sound as I unleash several layers of hell around me with no regard or restraint. A flurry of lightning crashes and crackles around me as I feel the burning in my throat and the stinging in my chest. The wind whips into a howling gale and the rain becomes a torrent. My neck tightens and the muscles in my back and arms burn from tension and electricity as nothing but pure destruction rages around me.
I can feel my throat going raw and my chest growing tighter, every nerve firing as power flooded out. The sky turned a sickly green as a twister formed and joined the gale. My mind was a blur as every single ounce of pain was unleashed, my hurt, my fury, my suffering, my grief, all of it pouring into a scene of a god’s punishment. Buildings were felled: trees uprooted, grasses set alight and streets flooded. All around me was an apocalypse made manifest as I bend nature to my will.
With a deafening thundercrack and a blinding lightning strike, the last of the air leaves my lungs. My voice falls silent. The fury leaves me and the storm starts to abade. My chest heaves with heavy breaths as the tension releases. My body is so sore, yet so light; like I have purged something that has been festering inside me for years. My arms go slack and my back slouches as I watch the storm calm. The rain slowed to a gentle pitter-patter and the thunder rumbled quietly. The water on my skin now simply left its sheen on my body. The cooling water feels good, despite the tingling.
I climb down to the deck of the rig slowly, my muscles aching in protest as I do. Once my feet hit the solid platform, I lean my back against a support pillar and slide down into a sitting position, finally allowing my body to rest. The soreness in my body told me I overdone it, but I don’t care. I rest my head on the pillar and look up to the sky, watching the colored flashing in the clouds as the chaos faded away. The rain runs over my face; washing away the pain as I finally allow myself to do something I haven’t done ever since my becoming the Beast.
I cried.
Tears joined the water rivering down my face as I let the last of the pain go. My hoarse voice choking in my throat as the grief fully releases. The rain and the thunder becomes the balm to soothe the wounds in my soul that have been neglected for so long. The wind stills to a gentle breeze and a quiet whisper as I close my eyes and allow myself to lower my guard: be vulnerable, allowing myself to be a man. Nothing more, nothing less. My chest heaved with the quiet sobs that had been left caged inside for too long; shedding the tears that were long overdue. I may be alone, but now nobody was around to force anything onto me.
With the last choking cry leaving my mouth, my breathing normalized as I looked to the sky once more, a crack was opening in the clouds, revealing to me the most beautiful sight my eyes have ever lay upon.
A night sky in its purest form, a tapestry of shimmering stars and celestial clouds that turned the aether into a work of art that no being could ever replicate.
It was now that I could see. Just how truly free I am. Not only am I free: free to go where I want, when I want, free to take whatever I want, free to do whatever I pleased; I am free to feel however I wish to feel, be it joy, rage or pain. I am free to be whoever I want to be, whatever it might be. In this moment, this blissful moment of clarity; I am free to be a man.
I am finally free to be Cole MacGrath; the man behind the power.
I am finally free to be me.

🌈💖💎?
STARTS RUNNING AROUND LIKE A WILD ANIMAL AND FROTHING AT THE MOUTH god bless you anon ok here I go
[Original post YEAAHG]
🌈 - Ok ignoring the implications of me being transported to my OC world and what would possibly happen to me being very much not made out of literally any of the basic materials that every living being in that universe is. Short answer, No I would NOT survive there for a week unless I got insanely lucky
Irk and Returnia and Crystallis and the majority of other alien planets are ruled out immediately because I'm a human and would get my ass kicked, most of Phonia would also probably be a bust because even though there are plenty of humans there unlike them I would definitely not last long breathing in all the weird funky fumes in the atmosphere because I was not born in that, so basically unless I get lucky and im either transported to some moon colony or spaceship I can hunker down in for a week I am very fucked
💖 - Sticking to Phonia for this one bc I could go on forever if not and also bc this is one of my favorites
When someone dies while on a planet, their soul will shoot up into the sky and poof away into the afterlife in a puff of sparkle-y stuff once it hits the edge of the atmosphere
A unique feature of Phonian cloud formations is they are incredibly dense and have been known to be very good at picking up various debris in the sky- even people on rare occasions
The fun part though is every few years the clouds will become so full of those "sparkles" from souls passing on that for a few days it'll start to rain them down to the surface everywhere on the planet like the worlds biggest glitter shaker- not nearly as messy though, the magic will just absorb back into the ground after long enough, its about as much of a hinderance as morning dew on your lawn, but its still very pretty, its just called simply "soul rain" and despite its blatant connection to death if it happens after a major life event its seen as a good omen of things to come
💎 - Surprisingly there haven't been much in terms of all out artillery wars in recent history, but it hasn't necessarily been peaceful neither, first thing that comes to mind is the unofficial "war" thats been going on between humans and monsters for as long as anyone can remember... which nowadays, especially after a certain event in december of 1995 that involved the moon getting blown up (long story), has become not much more than political figures bickering at eachother like children over things people dont care about while the planet is figuratively and VERY literally collapsing around them all, and if you asked most people tend to see the war as long over by now even though its effects are still very evident
Short version of this answer: no, all the alien species everywhere are too busy slap fighting eachother like literal children to actually ever start a big boy war and the closest its come in the past few millennium was when the previous Returnian Empress fucking maimed the current Irken Tallest half to death, also Phonia continues to be falling apart like an old pair of socks in a garbage disposal to the surprise of literally nobody

10 Games Releasing 2023 That I'm Most Excited About
2022 was a wonderful year for games for me. I've played a lot of games in my backlog, as well as new releases as they came out. It can be tough keeping up with all the games that are releasing, but there are quite a few that I have my eye out for this year. Some big, some small, and some in-between! While I won't be talking about all of these extensively on this blog (mayhaps in smaller posts though, who knows?), at the very I want to gush about these in the turn of the new year.
Like a Dragon: Ishin (PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S) February 21st 2023
To think that it's only been a few years now since I've first jumped on the Yakuza bandwagon. While there's still a few of the games that I need to finish, I'm excited to take on this spin-off game. Will I absolutely die because I insist on button mashing? Yes. Will I lose my mind the minute I see Majima? Also yes. I’d love to finish out the rest of my backlog with Yakuza before February comes around, but I know that’s but a lofty dream.
Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Switch) May 12th, 2023
If there is one thing that I have always enjoyed when it comes to Legend of Zelda, it's the lore and styling of the series. Link knows how to make an impact, even in his simple tunic. While I never finished Breath of the Wild due to my attention span being really bad at the time that this game released, there is a hope inside of me that I'll see this game through to the end. That and, I'm also hoping that they improved on the open world aspect to tie in more story.
Master Detective Archives: Rain Code (Switch) 2023
When it comes to adventure games, my absolute favorite genre are mysteries. I love being able to solve the big question behind what's happening. So while I should know better than to put all of my eggs into one basket, my hopes are very high that this game will scratch my ever constant mystery adventure game itch. Given that the people behind Dangan Ronpa are behind this game, it should at the very least be an interesting experience.
Fire Emblem Engage (Switch) January 20th, 2023
Like a lot of the Fire Emblem fandom, when the first official trailer for Engage came out, I was not sold on the designs at all. It just felt too...gimmicky. But after the deluge of new character designs that have come out, along with just allowing time to settle in, I realize that I am generally excited to see what Fire Emblem has in store for us. Of course, it is still a mild excitement, given the disappointment that was the gameplay/map designs for Three Houses. Say what you will, while the story was very good, the tactics gameplay left quite a bit to be desired.
Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection (Switch, PS4, Steam) April 14th, 2023
I have a soft spot for Gameboy RPGs. Growing up on Yu-Gi-Oh games, I just really love the styling of isometric views. While I don't have any nostalgia for Mega Man at all, I do want go play as many older RPGs that I can, especially those from the GBA era that I wasn't able to play in my youth. And perhaps, if I end up enjoying these games, it can show that fans want more from Capcom in terms of Mega Man RPGs.
Final Fantasy XVI (PS5) June 22nd, 2023
I'm not what you would call a Final Fantasy fan. That's not to say that I hate the series or anything, but more that I've just...never completed a Final Fantasy game. The furthest I've gotten was with Final Fantasy XIV and I haven't played Endwalker yet (and probably won't, just because I'm burnt out on MMOs for the foreseeable future). But something about XVI is drawing my eye and I find myself very intrigued. Perhaps its the gruff main character, or the fact that his charge is unexpectedly murdered, meaning that some intense angst is bound to occur. Who knows?
A Space for the Unbound (PS4, PS5, Switch, Steam, Xbox One) January 19th, 2023
I remember playing this little indie demo about a year ago and loving the atmosphere behind it. The pixel art was gorgeous and I followed one of the developers of this title as they were posting about the game on Twitter. To see it finally be released has me very excited, especially so soon too.
Suikoden I and II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, Steam) 2023
I'm very late to the classic RPG train, due to the fact that I never had the opportunity to play these games growing up. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who had thought this, but over the past...decade or so, Konami just left a bad taste in my mouth. From my perspective, it was the fact that they had so many IPs that they underutilized and those that they did milk (Yu-Gi-Oh) felt like low effort cash grabs. So seeing them actually putting an effort to developing and publishing games over the last few years has been a bit surprising. But hey, if it results in them opening their vault of old games and bringing them to more audiences, I'm all for it.
Have a Nice Death (Switch, Steam) March 22nd, 2023
Roguelikes are a genre that I never imagined myself exploring until I played Hades. Now, I'm on the search for any other roguelikes that can scratch that satisfying itch of slashing through enemies, failing horribly, and getting back up and trying again (with some leniency since I'm bad at games). I'm not quite sure what to expect when coming into this game as I like to know as little as possible about new games I'm interested in (outside of the basics to make sure I'm actually interested in it).
Mineko's Night Market (Switch, Steam) 2023
This is another indie title that I've had my eye on since it was first revealed in a Nintendo Indie Direct a couple years ago or so. Since then, it's been remaining low key, trickling out information every once in a blue moon. But now, it seems as though we are at the end of the tunnel, with a potential release date coming this year.
Those are just some of the games that I’m excited to play this year. But what games have your interest peaked?

Day 268: Tuesday September 24, 2024 - "Bless You Boys"
Was treated to some mid-morning baseball out of the motor city today, and with nothing on my calendar for a couple of hours I gladly obliged to take my work day to the couch to see Skubal on the mound. The Tigers go into the day 1 game up for that Wild Card Spot and tied with the Royals. 6 games at home with three to end the year against the White Sox (a historically bad team) puts them seemingly in the cat bird seat as now everyone is abuzz about how they've been. "Dont Let The Tigers Get Hot!" Everyone remembers the historic start of the first 40 games of the 84 season - well, I dont remember as I was only 3! But I know how the story goes.....and how it ends. And for as exciting as these last 40 games have been (winning 15 games already in September with 4 to go), I can only hope what the baseball gods might finally have in store. There was a bit of a rain delay and so an extended pre-game show that features maybe one of the most important rookies for this fun season - Jason Benetti. I knew when we got our announcer that special things were in store. We have all the pieces now, and he has been one of the very best parts of my my whole summer. And then he shares the booth with Gibby, my own childhood hero and owner of my earliest profound baseball memory of him running the bases for the Dodgers - but it was him 40 years ago, when I was 3 that carried them boys to a wire-to-wire ring. Special to get his insights and banter as part of this big movement in the standings. The 9 innings today went like most of them have in September and another Tiger victory with lots of offense and lots of excitement. These young gritty Tigs are worth every bit of attention. Its fun that its finally our turn for our team to do this - way ahead of schedule. Like something out of the movies. And as I like to say - when it feels like something is up, it is. It is.
As we got ready to say goodnight I explained to him why Ive been so into the baseball the last couple of weeks and how special this Tigers team is with all these rookies, and how good Riley Greene is playing but how he's got so much help now. I told him about how 40 years ago I was his age, and them boys from Detroit, them gritty Tigs, were doing the same thing on the way to a World Series win. And wow would it be so special if they could do that again this year in 2024.
This September has absolutely been all of the Roar of 24. And he'll maybe vaguely remember this as much as I did then but its super special to me. I tucked him in with the stuffed Paws Grandma got him at the Opening Day game last year, and he dozed off to sleep with dreams a spinning of how special this October can possibly be. Maybe this is what the wait was all for.

Thanks! We're located in Clearwater Florida USA near Tampa/St. Petersburg. We do not anticipate a big issue here, but we're always prepared, and hopefully it won't affect our Zoom call.

A special thanks to all of those who picked up the latest audio MP3 "Aligning with the Cosmic Financing Flow" - btw, today is the final day to get it for $49. I've talked to so many people worldwide that are "standing in the middle of the desert praying for rain" and where this audio brings you is right to the river of cosmic finance and abundance and the manifestation of all that is good - direct TO you! This audio shares a unique and yet different way of looking at things and the word tracks are some I've never used before. There's even a section where I am energetically going back and searching for your best life in the past, filtering it, and dropping it into this incarnation with the goal of sudden windfalls and abundance like you've never seen before. There have been so many rave reviews and changes for others that it's even really impressed me and outperformed my expectations. And that says a lot because I'm a tough self-critic, always wanting to strive to hit perfection, but as my pre-press editor of books would say, "You will never publish perfection, but you can publish very, very good." and I believe this is an outstanding piece to acquire for your personal self-help and spiritual collection.
Right now it's just $49, tomorrow it goes up to $57

There's even a section where I am energetically going back and searching for your best life in the past, filtering it, and dropping it into this incarnation with the goal of sudden windfalls and abundance like you've never seen before. There have been so many rave reviews and changes for others that it's even really impressed me and outperformed my expectations. And that says a lot because I'm a tough self-critic, always wanting to strive to hit perfection, but as my pre-press editor of books would say, "You will never publish perfection, but you can publish very, very good." and I believe this is an outstanding piece to acquire for your personal self-help and spiritual collection.

I just wanted to thank you for our latest Liquid Fish miracle. I took our kitty to the vet because he was very sick. The vet did lab work, ultrasound and x-rays. She didn't expect the kitty to live. The morning after your remote healing not only was kitty alive and well, but all of his lab work came back as normal. The vet has never seen anything like it. I was giggling to myself, Yep, another Liquid Fish miracle!!! Thank you soooo much," - CJ

TGIWednesday: Who is Felitsa?
TGIWednesday News 📰
This whole month we've highlighted education/learning/teaching and it's a great time to join MLF Mastery Training or Masterclasses for 10% OFF before the 30th!! 📚🍎 So here you go with this week's parable. The last time my mother was coherent, I told her I had a surprise for her, we went to see Yanni Live in concert.🎶 One of the songs he wrote he dedicated to his mother, like any good young Greek man would do, and it was entitled "Felitsa". She really enjoyed the concert and I will never forget how joyful she was about seeing him in person! 😹 After that, her mental health began to fade and over time, she stopped talking. But we'll always have that night together seeing Yanni LIVE. 💕 How is your health? If everything is awesome, ditto for those you love, you can skip tomorrow's Zoom dedicated to healing health blocks and weaknesses! If you have more than a few issues, please join us. Health is wealth as they say and they're right. You could have all the money in the world, but if you can't enjoy it, what's the point!
A special request to all of our weather Mermaid Sirens out there 🧜♀️ that can manipulate the weather! Please do your magic and see Hurricane Helene turning into a non-event weather occurrence. Some may send arrows of love or light into it. While others may reverse its spin with a pendulum and some folks dissipate it down to gentle rains and light winds (my personal favorite) but up to you and whether you're using dowsing, muscle testing, pendulum or your personal wild weather connection etc., Please take a moment and work/play on and in it. Thanks! We're located in Clearwater Florida USA near Tampa/St. Petersburg. We do not anticipate a big issue here, but we're always prepared, and hopefully it won't affect our Zoom call.
ON DECK 🚢🎣⚓ 🔱 🧭 ⛵ Tomorrow September 26th - Join us for the 4pm ET live Zoom for the 7 Wellsprings Health Clearings, Sign up here!
Feeling extra crunchy and tension filled as you read this now? Reach out and get on my personal calendar today! Session payment and scheduling links are below to make it easy and FAST. 🎣 View Calendar First, Then Pay and Schedule 15 mins | 30 mins | 60 mins | Appointments

~ HEALTH BOOST ~ I believe, think, know and feel that my health can and will improve with a regime of eating clean, more water, exercise and daily fishing! I am ready, willing and able to get off the couch and back into the game and my new creedo will be, "If it is to be, it's up to me". I know when, how and why to test, "strong for me, weak for me" and to honor that through trusting in Spirit and the process of life which is a continual renewing river! I am asking in all languages and throughout all timelines and so it is! Remember, making a little daily progress could make the rest of your life the very best of your life! ▶️ Watch here on YouTube - Please Like 👍 and Subscribe 🔔
