ngl I do wish that tumblr had an option for a name that’s different from the @ the way twitter has it because there are two men who take up a ridiculous amount of space in my heart and I want to put them both on the top of the metaphorical shelf that is this blog

«I love you». A quiet confession disrupts the silence. Kaeya watches over the other. He has been watching over him for a while.
Left hand suports a sun kissed cheek, gaze tenderly studying the redhead's features. The way his chest rises slowly. How long his lashes are. The absence of tension and worry in his body. Peace incarnated. Perhaps Diluc has reached the destination of pleasant dreams long ago.
Kaeya does not wish to disturb his rest.
... Alas, part of him is greedy. He knows it so, yet still dares to ask for forgiveness. He begs --- allow him to be greedy just once more.
«...»
Lithe fingers reach closer. They gently tuck flame red hair behind the other's ear.
And they retreat.
For now, this soft touch will suffice. If only because Kaeya knows he gets to wake up next to him come morrow. Something to look forward to.
«Rest well, my love».

( HOW DOES YOUR MUSE PERCEIVE MY MUSE? ) Okay, Okay SO, I know we technically don’t write a whole lot yet because I’m slow as hell but I think about the progression of their relationship/Damas feelings for him A LOT (not to be weird but -shrugs-). Her first impression was obviously a very positive, thinking he’s interesting at the least but I feel like as they become closer as mentor/mentee and perhaps even friends as the years go on 👀, Dama most definitely views Artemis as a parental figure of sorts. Kind of like a kid and their teacher who takes the extra time with them? But Artemis is someone she deeply wants to please/make proud of her as he took the chance to take her in. She sees him as patient, kind, all-knowing, worthy of respect from all, and as someone to be revered, but she also has very healthy fear of him cause she’s not dumb ( IM NOT SURE IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WANTED OR EXACTLY WHAT THE PROMPT ASKED FOR SO SORRY IF ITS A LITTLE ALL OVER THE PLACE I /JUST/ WOKE UPAND HAD TO GET IT OFF MY CHEST )
HOW DOES YOUR MUSE PERCEIVE MY MUSE? ( bonus points for adding initial impressions versus how their opinion has changed and developed over time  ). (with @manneatcr!)

Synopsis: after mating with ralak, you settle into your new home. During some quality time together, you pop a rather… interesting question.
<;- Previous Next ->
It’s barely been a week since you’ve properly moved into Ralak’s marui pod. It’s big and spacious, perfect for two – or more – na’vi. Comfortable and cosy, built by your mate’s two hands, with his future mate and family in mind. It’s beautiful, truly. But it needed a bit more... love. Something Ralak likes to say that you would provide with ease.
Taught from a young age, a man must provide and protect his mate and their family. Wise elders engrained the truth within his being since it came into consciousness – the truth that a woman wields the power of creation. The ability to create something out of nothing and make anything tenfold better.
A house into a home. Fresh game into dinner. Seed into life.
It’s from this point of his life, that he craved a mate to provide for, to create the dreamlife he yearned to live. To give everything he had to that na’vi and watch it flourish.
And he’s finally found you.
Five nimble fingers work away at the woven trinkets you plan to garnish the bent wooden frame of your marui with. Slender digits quicken as they tuck the coruscant shells into the twine, pulling it taut as you double knot it. It’s the one thing you taught him, the Omaticaya are known for their skilled weaving and sewing techniques - passed down by the ancestors themselves.
He watches intently, brows twitching as he tries to follow your movements with his own thickset fingers. He’s always had a hard time with this sort of task, often resorting to the lengthy wooden needle and thinly twisted twine to fasten whatever you needed him to. He heaves a heavy sigh, letting his frustration get the best of him as he grabs the wooden needle.
Breaking his façade of indifference.
It’s silly really. You’re mated before Eywa herself, sitting together as you weave and see in your shared marui, and yet he still feels the need to express as little emotion as na’vi-ly possible. You look up to see his nose scrunch and lips pull together, the same face he made when you fell off your ilu for the tenth time. The memory has you giggling before you become aware of the sounds coming from your mouth.
It earns you a pair of beady eyes, drilling into your innermost being. It’s good to know that the teasing hasn’t stopped, even after marriage. Your giggle increases in bass, quickly turning into a chuckle. It’s infectious, spreading to his own lips to make them curl in the slightest way possible, just enough to make him look down at the way his fingers fiddle to thread the eye of the needle.
Blood rushes to his face, staining it a tinge of pink. His flushed cheeks and flustered appearance have the gears in your head grinding twice as hard, fabricating images of what he’d look like in his most primal state. All hot and heavy, chest heaving harshly from how hard he’s breathing. Is it this? Is this what he looks like when he’s in –
“Ma’ Lak.” The words slide off your tongue like nectar, sweet and thick with arousal. It urges him to look away from his task, gaze slowly trailing up your petite, dark blue body.
“…What was your first rut like?” You ask innocently.
Ralak cocks a brow, quickly dropping his head once more to hide his growing smirk. He happily puts down the needle, unfazed by your out-the-blue question and shuffles to his feet whilst offering his hand. Dainty fingers wrap around his wrist, holding on tightly as he pulls you to your feet and walks you over to the bed. He reaches behind him, gripping the base of his kuru to stroke its length and bring it over his shoulder.
“Why don’t I show you?” Ralak asks, exposing his dancing tendrils before your eyes.
Of course, the man of few words would prefer to show you rather than tell you. Not that you were complaining or anything. He’s choosing to let you in, to show you one of the most intimate moments of his life. A moment where he was most vulnerable.
You nod, quickly pulling your queue forth, revealing your dancing tendrils too. Hues of glowing lilac illuminate the space between you. Amber and azure orbs twinkle as they watch the tendrils find one another, intertwining as they come together with a quick tug. Your head flies back, pupils blowing until nothing but thin amber rings remain, breath hitching whilst your bodies synchronize entirely.
Your vision blurs until all you can see is white, and the high-pitched ringing noise in your ears drowns out the sounds of the waves crashing into the shore. Soon, you’re no longer in your marui, as the white fades out into various shades of grey. The ringing dissipates into a low, husky voice, reverberating in the background.
My tanhì. Are you there?
You can see beige and grey blobs, splitting into two and drifting apart. You can hear faint indistinguishable echoes, something like a cry, or a whine. Cool water splashes at your feet, making you rub your eyes to unblur your vision. You open your eyes, witnessing the blobs merge together and unblur into large-rocks, and pointed stalagmites.
Our cave?
You hear the faint, breathy chuckle of your mate. Yes. Our cave. I was... frightened. Came here to cool down with a bath. See?
An invisible hand gently tugs at your chin, pulling your head to the left. You see young Ralak, short haired and bare skinned, leaning against the cave wall. His ears are tucked back, lying flat against his skull as a few strands of hair dangle in front of his face, beet-red with beads of sweat dripping down his temples. The droplets crash onto his bare chest which is heaving wildly from his laboured breathing.
His less sinewy body shudders, face contorting from pain and discomfort as his shaky hands glide down his stomach to find purchase on the band of his loincloth. Hooking his thumbs underneath the twine, he shimmies it down his thighs, revealing his naked pelvis. It’s strange seeing his unscarred, uncalloused skin, bare without charcoal inking.
Huffing and puffing, he stomps his feet to unplaster the sopping cloth stuck to his thighs. A gruff grunt of frustration vibrates in his throat, hands flying to the base of his tail to extricate himself from the constraints of his taut tewng [loincloth]. He’s struggling. Floundering around as if he wanted to step out his own skin.
Your heart sinks at the sight. You want to help him. Make the pain go away. You know it all too well. To feel out of control and confused, dazed, and flustered from the actual heat brewing in your core. But all you can do is watch him from a far as he squirms against the cave wall, panic-stricken eyes growing lidded and heavy.
I had a hard time understanding what was happening. Much like you.
Young Ralak finally unfetters the knot, loincloth unpeeling from his clammy skin. He sighs a breath of relief.  Finally free from his restraints, his painfully hard cock springs up, veiny and throbbing from his intense arousal. It’s almost red, mushroomy tip bulging and swollen with a thick, lengthy string of glossy precum leaking from his slit. It hangs freely in the air, swinging side to side as his cock jumps to the pulse of his heart. The swaying rope of slick finally catches along his length and begins to drip down to his – oh?
Is that your –
My knot. I was surprised to see it, too.
It’s huge. This is the first time that you’re seeing it up front. Sure, you’ve felt it before. Fuck, you even wanted to take it during your real first time – but you’ve never seen it like this.
“Tewti [whoa; wow].” Young Ralak mumbles, lidded eyes widening once they land on the sight of his knot emerging for the first time. It’s bulbous and veiny, pulsing madly as it continues to swell. A breathy moan parts his lips as a curious hand reaches for it, eager to find out how it feels. Slickened from his precum, his fingers glide over it easily, feeling the bump of each vein. His hips buck from his own touch, cock thrusting into nothingness.
Your thighs rub together at the sight. You’d never seen him this turned on before. Not even on the night of your iknimaya. And honestly, neither has he. He’s shocked to see himself so red and swollen, throbbing from how painfully hard he is. He stares at himself in awe, watching his hips stutter and squirming by themselves.
He’d never been inclined to touch himself in this way, not even in the early mornings when he was at his biggest. He would just wait for it to go down and if it was ever too overwhelming, he would come here for a quick bath. But the bath isn’t working today. It’s just too humid and hot for only water to cool down with.
Flustered, he gives into his impulses.
Webbed hand gripping his knot, he strokes upwards, cupping his pulsing tip as it oozes slick over the back of his hand. His head dips back, jaw clenched tightly as his hips stutter, palm of his hand now rubbing on the most tender part of his cockhead. He’s so sensitive – so innocent – like a single thrust of his hips would make his inflamed tip... erupt.
Oh, fuck. You shift your weight from one foot to the other - anything for a little friction.
His cock throbs madly, thick strings of his sticky seed spurting out his slit, an orgasm so powerful he can’t bite back the lengthy, pained whimper coming from his mouth. He looks down, feeling something warm on his stomach. Surprised, he let’s go of himself, staring at the thick bead of white liquid rolling between his abs.
“Oh – Oh Eywa.” He exhales wobbly, trembling hand hovering over his tender and raw cock. He’s so afraid to touch it again. But he wants to. He needs to. He just can’t help himself. All he wants to do is hump away at something – anything.
Anything to get rid of this feeling. The feeling of pure, unrefined frustration, engrained deep in his most inner being. As more time passes, he succumbs to his most primitive self, plunging under the thick, hazy trance of his rut. He grabs a hold of his aching cock, stroking it at the pace his stammering hips set for him. His head slumps back into the wall, chin pointing towards the cave’s roof as he lets loose needy, broken whines into the air.
His eyes squeeze shut, brows knotting together to focus on that gnawing feeling deep in his core. In a split second his whimpers morph into deep, guttural groans, white milky essence spilling from his tip, over his hand and onto his tensed stomach. His eyes pop open, mouth hanging agape as he sucks in a quick, shaky breath of air.
Tears well in his eyes, glossing them over with want and desperation. The blush on his cheeks spreads over the bridge of his nose, breath so hot you could practically see it. He pulls away his hand, exposing his cock, thumping madly as beads of cum roll down his shaft. It’s even harder now, so fucking hard that it strains, pulling his skin so taut that its outright painful.
He fully slumps back against the wall, snapping his hips back to get rid of the intense stretching feeling. He almost caves in on himself, desperate for release. For relief. He begins panting – heavily. Trembling lungs making it hard to catch a full breath, he feels his head spin. Finally, the tears roll down his cheeks. Tears of torment.
The first tears you’ve ever seen fall from his face.
This is what you’ve been going through? All alone? For six years?
Yes. Ralak didn’t seem to be embarrassed by you seeing this at all. In fact, it feels as if he’s... enjoying it. Not necessarily enjoying watching himself suffer, but watching you squirm around trying to deny your own arousal.
Young Ralak slides down the rough wall, finding support on a small ledge near the bank of the lake. He swallows the saliva pooling in his cheeks, trembling hand slowly making its way back down to his aching cock all on its own. He grits his teeth as the pads of his fingers graze his chafed skin. He’s so rubbed out and raw that he whines at the sensation.
It’s like stones in your heart, clunking around as your breath quickens. You feel so helpless, so frustrated, unable to do anything to relieve your mate’s pain, albeit a memory. “Ralak.” You blurt out, surprised to hear your own voice in this hazy reverie.
What shocks you more is when he snaps his head towards you, acknowledging your presence with his delirious, inebriated eyes. You never even knew something like this was possible. You knew you could visit memories, just like you would when plugging in to the spirit tree. But to be involved and interact with them is hard to wrap your head around.
You test the waters a little more, and approach him cautiously, hands splayed out in front of you to show that you have no ill intentions. He watches you move towards him, irises flickering between his usual azure blue to a shade of mauve. You can tell he’s uncertain, just by the way he tries to retreat further into the wall with hand practically plastered to his cock.
“W-Who are y-you?” His voice is wobbly and hoarse.
Tanhì. You ignore Ralak’s warning echoing in your mind and continue moving toward his younger self.
“I am... your mate.” You say in a calming voice.
“M-mate?” He can barely get the word out when a wave of heat ripples through him, making his face red and screw with discomfort. “What’s – ngh, w-what’s happening to m-me?” He panics, bottom lip quivering.
“You’re in rut.” You say quietly, hand extending experimentally, your fingertips brush against his clammy thigh.
I can feel you, Ralak. So maybe I can help you.
His freckles blink from your touch, ears hugging his skull as closely as they can. You can hear the faint chitter of his teeth, jaw clenching and unclenching as he tries to put a stop to it. He’s panting so heavily – so quickly that soon he’s hyperventilating, about to lose it.
“Hey. Hey. Breathe. It’s alright. You’re okay.” You try to reassure him in a soothing voice, resting your hand gently on his thigh. “I – I can help you... if you want me to… I know how you’re feeling.”
Tahni. Ralaks stern voice booms in your head, but you continue to ignore him. You couldn’t take it anymore – watching him suffer in this way, even if it’s just a memory. The thought of him going through this alone for six years of his life makes your heart turn in on itself. Besides, you know that he can always pull you out of this daydream with a simple tug at your kurus.
“It hurts... ssst – why does it, w-why?” He mewls breathily, hand reflexively stroking his length, knot to tip.
Your hand slides up his thigh and over his hand, stopping his eager movements. “I have something better. Something that will get rid of the pain.” You say breathily, nodding your head a bit. “B-But only if you want it.”
Young Ralak nods frantically, allowing you to guide his hands to your waist. His innocent, frightened eyes snap up to yours, making their final flicker to a beautiful mauve as they silently beg for reassurance.
“Don’t be scared. I’m right here. You’re going to be alright.” You croon at him, making your way between his legs as you untie the knot of your soddened loincloth.
You’re going to hurt yourself, y/n. Another warning.
Always so worried about me, and never yourself.
Once your loincloth drops to your knees the scent of your arousal fills the air, driving young Ralak into the thick of his rut. His pupils thin to slits and his fingertips sink into your waist, pulling you into him. Your hands slump into his chest, before sliding up to wrap around his neck for support as you mount your younger mate.
You’re squatting over him, knees pressing against either side of your breasts as you position his cock between your slickened folds. Greedy hands explore your body, gliding up and down your back before gripping your hips to move them up and down his length. He groans, closing his eyes to savour the feeling of something so soft and wet rubbing against him.
Putting pressure on your heels, you slide your slit up to his tip, shifting your hips downwards to position him at your entrance. His cock, desperate to sink itself into anything, goes into a thrusting frenzy once it feels your soft opening. He digs his nails into your skin as he forces you down onto him in one hard thrust. You hide your face in the crook of his neck in hopes to muffle the loud, pained groan falling from your lips.
You can feel every inch of him, just as you would if this were all real. Every vein. Every bump. Every throb. Once you look back at him, you’re met with frightened, innocent eyes, worried that he just hurt you. You smile wobbly, moving your hands to cup his jawbone. “I’m okay. Shh – it’s okay.”
“’m sorry.” He huffs, furrowed brows pinching even tighter as he thrusts into you, jamming his swollen cockhead into your cervix repeatedly. “s-so sorry.”
You rest your forehead against his, looking each other deep in the eyes as he ruts into you like an animal. His thrusts have no rhythm, hips stuttering at an unpredictable, broken pace. His noises are bestial and primal, whimpering and whining as he struggles to move properly.
“Oh, ma ‘Lak. Don’t b-be. jus’ want y-you to feel be-better.” Your voice bounces, hand reaching behind you to press down on his thigh to stop his movements all together. His hips come to a halt, with the occasional unintentional buck, hand caressing his thigh for a bit until he calms down fully.
“Easy, take it easy. Like this” Your hand slides up his thigh, slender fingers gripping the side of his hip to slowly pull him forward. His hips jerk forward on impulse, ramming his head back into your sore cervix. “Agh! A little – a little more gently.” You let out a sweet little cry, pushing his hips away from you.
His breath deepens so much that you can hear it – chest heaving so harshly his shoulders are visibly rising and falling. “S-sorry. Sorry.” He buries his hot face into your chest as he apologizes continually, trying to control the jerk of his hips. His arms wrap tightly around your waist to pull you in for a closer embrace.
Finally, he sinks into you slowly, completely bottoming out in your cunt until his knot kisses the softness of your slit. It’s so sensitive and neglected that he grimaces into your soft breasts, pulling away as he sucks in a quick breath of air with a ‘sss’. You look down to see his brows pinched, lips slightly parted and eyes screwed tightly shut.
He’s having such a hard time – struggling to breathe, struggling to control himself, struggling to be gentle. You can see the glister of the tears seeping from the corners of his eyes and oh – how that makes your heart throb. “Good boy. Doing such a good job, you know that?” You coo with trembling lungs, pulling his head back into you, resting his chin on your shoulder.
You hold him close, cradling him like a baby, cooing in his ear about how well he’s doing. “It’s okay. You’re okay. Just listen to your body.” Your voice quavers as you repeat his own signature words back to him. “Do what you need. Okay?”
He lets out a weak grunt, tightening his hold around you while he snaps his hips back. You can feel every vein and ridge against your gummy walls as he pulls out, and when he sinks himself back in you swear you can feel his swollen knot poking at your entrance. Again. And again. And again. And soon he quickens his broken pace, pounding into you so hard it feels like it may pop in at any second.
Heart slamming violently between your ribs, you tighten your grip around him as you prepare to be knotted for the first time. His lewd noises increase in volume and bass and soon he’s groaning gutturally as his frenzied thrusts become short and deep. So fucking deep that you can’t help but let out a pathetic little whimper when he pushes past the resistance in attempts to shove his fat knot inside you.
And that’s when you feel it.
“It’s happening. Haa – ah! Ha-ppening.” He groans suddenly, grinding even harder into you.
“Let it - haah- happen. Go on, there you go.” You pant, feeling his thick cock pulsate inside you, spurting ropes of his hot, sticky cum in your womb, filling you up until you feel heavy and oh-so-fucking full. It’s so much, it’s overflowing, excess seeping out to dribble down his knot. He’s allows a soft ‘ngh’ to fall from his lips with every pulse of his cock.
He continues to roll his hips into you, a little scared by his body’s impulsive, greedy movements. But he can’t help it, the way his body is screaming to shove this growing bulge inside your tight, little hole. He’s whimpering, at war with himself as he tries his best not to knot you.
Tanhì!
“Don’t fight it. Do it!” You cry out a high-pitched moan, grinding into immense pressure between your legs. You can feel it work its way inside you, stretching you out so much that it burns. But you know this will make him feel better – make the pain go away. “Harder. Push h-harder.” You quiet down to an encouraging, shaky whisper. He’s pushing up into you and shoving you down by your hips at the same time, clenching his jaw from the way you’re pinching him.
Pop.
“Ngh!” It slips in with an audible squelch, burning sensation between your legs growing even hotter. And hotter. And hotter. And oh – fuck. It’s so hot it feels like a ring of fire surrounding his pulsating knot. It hurts – but it hurts so good. So good that your pussy walls flutter around him uncontrollably. “F-fuck!” You cry out, quickly coming to the realization that you’re cumming from the way his knot is burying itself inside you.
He holds onto you tightly as he continues to move inside you, tugging at you as you try to come down from your unexpected high. “W-wait – Ralak!” You whimper loudly, trying to follow his erratic movements. He’s whining from the overstimulation and the way you’re pinching around him; eyes flying wide open to reveal pure panic and guilt when he quickly understands that he’s hurting you.
Suddenly, your vision goes white as the ear-splitting ring pierces your eardrums and in a matter of seconds, you’re back in your shared marui. You open your eyes with an audible gasp to see Ralak peering up at you through furrowed brows. His gaze is almost predatory – piercing, and unflinching. His slumped shoulders rise and fall from how heavily he’s breathing, darkened, almost purple-y mauve irises flicking down to his taut loincloth – soaked with his thick cum.
“Oh, shit.” You breathe, unaware that he was feeling everything, too.
“Only I knot you.” Ralak growls.
A giggle bubbles up your throat, “Really Lak?Jealous? Of yourself?”
He grunts, displeased with your behaviour. “Do not taunt me, Tanhì.”

Neteyam x Mute!reader - mesmerising
Tumblr media
Could I request Neteyam x Mute!Reader. Maybe they're a well-respected hunter and known for their gentle touches with the Ilu and the Tsurak. Maybe Neteyam sees them while he's learning and asks Tsireya who they are - Anon💜
A/N: sign language will be in bold
Tsireya was leading Neteyam to the water and that’s when he first noticed you, standing waist deep in the water as your hands gently moved over the head of a small IIu.
He stopped walking and focused on you instead, which is what caught Tsireya’s attention.
She followed his gaze and smiled a little as she walked over, standing next to him.
“Our best Hunter.” She said.
Neteyam snapped his head to the woman beside him, scrunching his brows a little in confusion.
He flicked his eyes back to you for a second before turning his attention fully to the na’vi who was supposed to be teaching him about the way of the water.
“That is (Y/N), they are our best Hunter. Respect by all Metkayina. The people trust them.”
Neteyam nodded his head as he turned his attention back to you.
You walked through the water with ease, tail swishing behind you as you approached another IIu, touching its head, giving a small bow before you moved past to greet some more.
“What’re they doing?”
“They are checking on the IIu, making sure they are well and happy. (Y/N) has a strong soul, deep spiritual connection to the land and the animals.”
Neteyam nodded his head again.
He was captivated by you, and as Tsireya looked at him she couldn’t help but smile at the look of pure amazement on his face.
He looked at you as if he had never seen such a na’vi before, as if he had never seen anything so beautiful, so absolutely perfect he was scared if he took his eyes away from a second you would vanish.
“You wish to know more?” Tsireya asked.
“Yes…” he breathed out.
“Come. Come.”
She quickly grabbed his hand and they jumped back on to the walkway, and she took him to the edge, looking out upon the water you were walking in.
You approached a Tsurak and he panicked.
“We have to stop them! They’re going to get hurt!”
“Wait, just watch.”
He stopped himself from rushing forward and watched you carefully.
The Tsurak didn’t seem happy about you approaching, and it swam around you in circles, but you stood there, hands in the water.
After a tense moment, it slowly swam over and touched your hand, poking its head out of the water enough for you to brush your fingers over its skin.
You bowed your head at it before letting it go.
You looked to the sky for a moment before you dived into that water as with that you were gone.
“They will be hunting now, only (Y/N) and a few of the men go behind the reef.”
“Aren’t they a bit young to be a hunter?”
Neteyam knew each tribe did things different, but from what he saw there was no way you could’ve been much older than him.
Hell, he was sure you could’ve been at least a year younger than him.
Tsireya just laughed at him and shook her head.
“No, no. They received the title of hunter earlier yes. But a hunter like them is only born ever couple of hundred years, no one has seen such elegant hunting before.”
Neteyam wanted to learn everything he could about you.
“Can I meet them?” He asked nervously.
“I can’t see why not. Do you remember the sign language we taught you?” She asked.
He nodded his head confused.
“Great, you’ll need it. Now let’s go, you still have a lot to learn if you wish to be Metkayina.”
Neteyam tried to focus on his lesson, but he couldn’t, he was so focused on you. He couldn’t shake you from his mind.
He finished his training early, and you still had yet to come home, so he spent his time with his brother and sisters, sitting outside the hut waiting your return.
“You’re looking eager.” Kiri said.
“Oh yeah, he’s smitten for someone!” Lo’ak laughed.
“Neteyam has a crush!” Tuk laughed.
Neytiri was standing behind them a small smile on her face as she looked at her youngest children poking fun at their older brother.
Walking over, she crouched down next to him as the three ran away laughing to themselves.
“So who is it?” She whispered.
“Mom.” He sighed.
“Come now, I will find out eventually.”
Neteyam knew his mother was right, so he sighed and looked back over the water and that’s when he was you riding back, hauling a large next on your back.
Neytiri followed her sons gaze and smiled a little.
“A good hunter.”
He hummed and nodded, quickly standing up.
“See you later!”
He jogged away, following wherever you were going to before he lost sight of you.
Neteyam thought he had lost you, but when he jumped down in to the sand he saw you patting the head of your IIu.
A few of the tribe were standing around waiting, and you set the net on the ground, crouching down you held your hand out.
Neteyam stood nearby, watching as you out fish in peoples baskets, they thanked you and let the next person go.
By the time you were done, the sun was starting to set, and Neteyam took that as his chance to approach you.
“Hey.. Uhm.. hi…” he smiled.
You looked up, holding your hand out to him and he titled his he’s sun confusion and you did the same.
“I uh.. I don’t have a basket?”
You stood up, looking at him.
Are you not here for fish?
Neteyam blinked, your hands moved too fast for his eyes, he was still only learning so sometimes he struggled to understand what was being said to him.
“I’m sorry can you repeat that? I’m still learning.” He laughed nervously.
God, he wanted to make a good impression on you and here he was making an absolute fool out of himself.
Are you not here for fish?
This time he was able to understand what you said to him and he shook his head.
“No, sorry if I confused you. I actually wanted to get to know you if that’s okay?”
You smiled and nodded your head, gesturing for him to follow you so he did.
You walked around, handing out some more fish until you only had a few left and you took it to an empty hut and set it down.
Sitting down, you gestured for him to do the same thing.
You were with Tsireya earlier right?
“Yeah I was, you saw me?” He asked.
His tail swished a little in happiness at the thought of you spotting him as well, and he watched as you started to cut up the fish.
You nodded and set the blade down, looking up at him.
I am a hunter, I see all. What’s your name?
“Right! I’m Neteyam!”
He grinned and you smiled back, and he felt his heart stop a little at the soft smile.
You already know my name. Why did you want to talk?
He awkwardly looked away, trying to figure out what to say. He could either tell the truth, or come up with some complete lie. And that sounded like the better option.
“I heard you were the best hunter. I’m learning to be a hunter, I was wondering if you could help teach me?”
You put the fish in the pot above the fire and added a few more things before turning to him.
Yes, I can teach you. But I teach differently to others.
“That’s cool!”
You nodded your head and your ears flickered a little as you heard a series a short calls.
His ears flickered as well and he looked behind him before turning back to you with a smile.
“Sorry I have to go, can I see you tomorrow?”
I will find you.
He grinned brightly and nodded, getting up he jogged away, his thoughts absolutely consumed by you and all the questions and all the things he wanted to learn about you.
You were a mystery to him, and if there’s on thing Neteyam loved doing, it was solving mysterious

“Can you hear me, corporal?” He chuckles, “Yeah. I think you can.”
"If you so much as lay a finger on her, consider yourself a dead man.” Your father seethed through the intercom that you could feel his very rage– it frightened you, almost more so than being captured by Quaritch. Jake wasn't the kind of man who liked to make idle threats; it was his commitment that made him the perfect olo’eyktan, but it was purely love that made him the father he is today.
You knew very well what he was capable of.
You tugged at the binds, desperate to loosen them but to no avail. Squirming uncomfortably in your seat, despair settled into your chest like lead and you felt helpless. You didn't even put up a fight to begin with; all those training, just to end up at the root of it all. You could only glare at Quaritch while he looked down at you, fingers pressing the pager on his ear.
“Now don’t look at me like that, sweetheart, you have your father’s eyes.” His remark made your gaze falter, disgust coursing through your body. “You know what to do, Jake.”
“Don’t touch her, asshole! She’s just a kid–
“Might’ve gotten a few scratches in, but nothing a few bandaids can’t fix.” Quaritch looks you up and down, a smirk playing on his lips,  “Don’t worry, we show visitors the utmost respect here. I’m certain you’d know our customs around these parts, marine.” His tone is slightly aggressive and there's an air of smugness in his words– he’s provoking him, taking pleasure in knowing that he has the upper hand.
Scratches my ass. They gave you one hell of a shot on your side when they tried to kill off your ilu and they did nothing but put some ragged cloth to stop the bleeding. You knew it wasn’t any deep, but it still hurt– not to mention you’ve lost a lot of blood from their harsh tugging. You wince, thinking about it. If it wasn’t for the adrenaline coursing through your body, you would’ve been in a whole lot of pain.
“What the hell do you want?”
“Same as before. You for her.”
Their voices melted into the background, like a low hum of static passing through your ears. Despite the noise, you feel yourself attune to it after a while and allow yourself to drift away. Eventually, it tuned itself out and you were surrounded by an almost eerie silence.
Your father had said something, you remembered, something you had missed.
You had missed the looming aircraft above– unlike the usual helicopters you knew, this one flew stealthily, as if it was designed to lurk and catch even the slightest of movement. At first, they thought it was merely a lone ilu; they were now at the reef, after all. Your color blended almost perfectly with its skin, movement as fluid as the raging sea. They had shot it, grazing its fin.
“Mawey, mawey!” You had screamed in panic, trying to hold on to its thrashing body. “Dad–”
The ilu struggled, bellowing in pain. It was impossible to form a bond, let alone control your breathing– the bluish-green waters were now tainted with a faint, crimson hue. Blood; familiar blood, painful red.
“__, listen, I’m gonna find you, okay?” It was difficult to make out the words he had spoken over the loud static of the pager. The radio waves were making it hard for either of them to hear properly. Trying again, he shouted,  “Sweetheart, I’m–”
From there, they had spotted you; a forest na’vi, sticking out like a sore thumb. Quaritch had most certainly hit the jackpot upon seeing that it was none other than Jake Sully's eldest daughter.
You wondered what he could have uttered in that moment before Quaritch and his people had rushed to get to you. Could it have been an apology– a sorry you’ve been longing for? Sweetheart, I’m sorry for being so tough on you. I’m sorry we had to leave home– leave him. I’ll find you and you’ll be okay. We’re going home.
But the thought of facing his disappointment again plagued you; once it had been his love that held you together, but now this fear kept your feet firmly planted on the ground.
Sweetheart, I’m disappointed in you– how could you put yourself in this situation? How could you put everyone in danger again? What would Neteyam think? I’m tired, __. You tire me.
Yeah, that was surely it.
Your eyes wandered around the room; the unfamiliar white walls reminded you just how far away from home you were and perhaps this time, you could never return.
Quaritch grabs your braid in his fist, tugging on it with a vice-like grip and forcing you to look up at him. You stifle a cry of pain, feeling the throbbing ache all across your scalp as his grip tightens around it. He tugs on it further, wanting a sound out of you, but all you could let out was a loud hiss. “Can’t hear your father, darling, think we have to put on a show.” He sneers, “You must not really love your children, Jake.”
“I understand already–! get your fucking hands off her!”
“I don’t think you understand, really.” Quaritch taunts.
A beat of silence passes before your father's desperate voice echoes through the intercom. “Please,” he pleads, “Don't hurt my daughter."
“There we go,” He finally releases your hair, “I’ll be waiting, Jake.”
Quaritch removes the pager, discarding it on the table just in front of you.
“You must be very disappointed in yourself,” A low hiss erupted from your throat as you gazed upwards. He sat in front of you, mockingly close, yet far enough that you couldn’t do anything but glare. “Does this not remind you of a familiar night?”
“They are coming for you,” Your tone was menacing– livid, as the words snarled from your lips. “And when they do, you’re gonna wish that you’ve let yourself rot in that shack.”
It flashed through his mind– a glimmer of your mother that burned fiercely; a warning. Quaritch straightened his posture, chuckling. “That traitor is coming to save his dear daughter in distress, much like your brother had. We know how it'll end.”
“Not until he kills you first,”
“You’re in a different boat, kid, away from the main one. What happens if I tell him he’d been too late and I got bored?” He shakes his head, snickering, like he had figured it all out– like he had carefully planned for everything to work out just so.“That this kid had too much of a mouth on her that I had to cut her throat?”
His words had struck you– a low blow. You feel as if your mouth has suddenly gone dry and the lump that appears in your throat lodges itself there stubbornly, refusing to move. No words came out of your lips, but a pathetic low sob. He was going to kill your father and he could succeed in doing so. “You’re one sick man.”
“You know your brother didn’t have to die,” His voice held no remorse and you wondered how someone could sleep so soundly. He stands up, dusting his pants, “But your father had it coming. Now stay here and be a sweetheart.”
Before he walked out, Quaritch had looked down on you one last time. There, you realized that you doomed yourself beyond salvation. You were nothing and he made sure of that— had cut you on a barely healing wound and now it reopened, bleeding more than ever.
Eywa must’ve turned her back. No child of hers would have suffered such trouble– and you were young. So young, you think that the stories of her were absurd. One more miracle, you needed just one more.
The lights dimmed when the doors closed, leaving you in the dark with your thoughts.
Tumblr media
They were arguing again.
Tuk was nestled close to Kiri, the two of them huddled together in front of the table. Lo'ak sat on the other side, rising slightly from his seat in an effort to eavesdrop and make out whatever he could hear from their parents’ conversation.
Something was off and gravely so. Nothing ever good rooted from a fight and they barely do, not until the past occurrences. It had to be the sky-people.
“I don’t feel so good,” Tuk muttered, her grip tight around her belly as if she could hold in the pain. “The last time this happened was when we left our home.”
“We’re not leaving, Tuk.” Kiri quickly assured her.
Their meal had gone cold and the silence was deafening. They all waited with baited breath, trying not to fidget or move. The suspense was growing thick in the air and they didn't know how much longer they could bear to remain idle, wondering what the hell was happening.
As if their prayers had been answered, Jake hurriedly walks inside, eyes falling to his panicked children. It made his heart more and more heavy, but he couldn’t bring himself to comfort them. Neytiri had already gone to Ronal’s
“Kids,” His voice was low and firm, and it made his shoulders stiff in anticipation, “Make sure everyone stays here. No one goes out the reef, understand?”
“Wait—” Lo’ak abruptly stands up, staggering to his feet. “What’s happening? Where’s __?”
“They took her.” It was all the answer he needed. The sky-people had found them. “Lo’ak, stay here with your sisters. I mean it.”
“You can’t expect me to stay here while __ is in danger—”
“I need one child! One child to listen when I tell them to stay,” He raises his voice with every word, but it wavers as he speaks— Jake could barely keep himself together, eyes betraying his authority. His gaze sharply shifts to his daughters, watching intensely as the scene unfolds. “Kiri, please.” She only replies with a curt nod and Lo’ak visibly deflates.
He needed them to stay here— here, where it’s safe. Here where Quaritch couldn’t touch them.
From afar, he embodied the fierce olo’eyktan that he is, but truthfully, he trembles as a father. He blamed himself for that night– blamed himself for everything that had happened. Jake couldn’t risk losing another one. Not only will he be failing his family, he’d fail Neteyam again, most of all.
Lo’ak slumps his shoulders, pushing past Jake. “This isn’t fair,” He mutters under his breath. Jake’s eyebrows knitted tightly and he knew damn well there was no going back from talking back to a parent. “You aren’t being fair– how could you ask us to standby?”
“I’m not asking, Lo’ak. It’s an order.”
“That’s even worse!” He shouts in reply and Jake is taken back.
There it is. The emotions desperate to claw out of their throats. If toughening them to an extent was a good thing, why was it biting him in the ass right now? Jake’s bottom lip quivered slightly. He didn’t need this– not now. He would’ve dealt with it properly, if it wasn’t for the situation at hand. Jake didn’t need his kids reminding him how he fucked up. He didn’t need another heartache when he had to toughen himself out.
“This isn’t the time for attitude, Lo’ak–” Jake exhales a deep breath, his eyes squinting as he clenches his jaw. He tries hard to keep himself in check, the last thing he wants is to lose his temper. Talk to them. Calmly. “You think I have the upperhand? Your sister needs me right now, what don’t you understand?”
“This would not have happened if you could just listen!”
“Well I’m here now, Lo’ak– just what do you have to say?” He stares back at him with an intensity that matches his own, voice slightly raised.
A million thoughts raced his mind. Will he blame him for bringing him here–? Here in awa’altu where they had to unlearn everything they have known– here in awa’atlu, away from his brother; but when silence had only replied to his outburst, he sighed wearily.
“Right now, we do not see eye to eye, boy.” His tone turns gentle, surprisingly. It causes Lo’ak to become rigid– unmoving as he takes in his father’s unfamiliar nature. The atmosphere shifted so somewhat awkward. Lo’ak only knew how to deal with his father’s anger.  “And that’s on me. I know you blame me for being a shit father, and I want you to. I messed up and I keep messing up.”
“Then why can’t you be better?” He said so casually, like  it was something Jake could accomplish with a flick of a switch, as if it was an easy task she simply hadn't put in enough effort for. But that was never the case.
Truthfully, he didn’t know what to answer. Didn’t want to tell his son that this was already his best. He liked to think that no father is perfect– eased him just a little knowing that there were far worse than him. But maybe he was no better.
When he knew that Neteyam’s eyes would never open again, he thought that hurt had hit the lowest of lows. But here he was, watching his son’s hateful gaze and had never been so wrong.
His ears flattened. “Stay here Lo’ak, please.”
Coward. Jake was a coward.
Lo'ak let out a frustrated scoff, quickly turning his head away and storming off in anger. He left the Marui so hastily that Jake was left alone with a crestfallen expression etched on his face. His expression was enough for Kiri to run after him, Tuk trailing behind. She jogged hastily, her breath catching in her throat as she eventually managed to match Lo'ak's pace.
“Lo’ak, they asked us to stay here.” Kiri tried to grasp on his wrist, only for him to retract harshly. They continued to walk towards the shore in an argument, “Lo’ak!”
“They have __, I’m going.” He continues to march towards his ilu, caressing its head in greeting while it mewls in return. “I’m not losing another one, Kiri. She’s my sister.”
Kiri grabs his hand, turning him around to face her sharply. Tuk’s head peeps to watch from behind her legs, “I’m your sister too! You’re scaring Tuk, just let them handle it.”
“What’s going on?” Ao’nung calls. Tsireya had heard of the commotion and immediately went to find Lo’ak and it was no surprise that he’d want to go after his parents.
“This is the sky people we’re talking about! The same people who–” He had exhaled loudly in frustration, his movements jerking and violent as he ran his hands through his braids repeatedly. His face contorts in stress and disbelief, and he yanks on his hair lightly, an attempt to shift the focus of his energy to something tangible instead of this hopelessness that has crept up on him.
“I have to be there.”
“Keep your skxawng ass here, I swear to Eywa.” But her threats fell on deaf ears as he continued to mount his ilu, spear in hand. He threw them one last glance before he sped away, leaving Kiri to call out his name.
Rotxo’s expression grew worried as he watched Lo’ak’s figure disappear amongst the vast spread of water. Forehead creased in concern as he looked around where everyone had been standing, “Are we supposed to let him?”
“Eywa, of course not.” She had clapped towards the Ilus, beckoning them to ride. “Let’s go, people.”
Tumblr media
Life was simple back then.
Jake knew he had to pull on his weight, lengthen his patience, and learn fatherhood from scratch. He was far from perfect, but he was sure that even his best efforts would still be better than what his own father had done for him when it came to parenting. His old man had never been there for him in any sense of the word.
“Alright babygirl, your turn.” Jake beckons you to take Neteyam’s place as he lends you his bow.
“He’s gonna come out behind those big rocks,” Your father instructs. He grabs your arm and moves it just a bit higher, steadying your aim with his firm grip. “Slowly, steady. Watch your aim.” You squint your eyes, focusing your sight as the fish comes to sight, stuck between the current and the rocks. With a deep breath, you release your hold, striking it right through its body.
“Good job, sweetheart. Go get it!” He shouts, giving you a big smooch on the cheek as he pushes you to claim your hunt. You giggle, feeling absolutely proud.
As you and Neteyam proudly display the fish you have both caught, he watches with a big smile. “My mighty fishermen, now let’s go home and show mama.”
Bracelets were enough to make his kids happy back then; beads and trinkets he found along his hunts. They would keep it for years to come and Jake thought he had cracked the code. But the gifts turned to few and then none and the ones they kept had burned along the crossfire. He became stricter– tougher on them.
He knew being a marine best than a father.
When his children looked at him, it wasn’t of love— he wasn’t dense with how their shoulders stiffened around him. Jake thought it was a good thing, to keep them all in a straight line, for them to learn discipline early. But as they grew older, they were getting harder to reach and no amount of presents could make them come back.
“Lo’ak started it!” Your eyebrows were heavily knitted, fangs bared as you showed him the broken bracelet. You tightly held onto the beads, afraid that you’d lose more of it.
Your brother had immediately turned defensive, shoulders tense. “If you hadn’t been in the way, it would’ve been avoided!”
“I don’t want to hear it.” Jake quickly interrupted you both, massaging his temples. “One night. One night without any of you bickering. You’re older, __, why can’t you be the bigger person?”
Your heart sank a little. You weren’t growing younger and so was your dad. Jake never took the time to craft, unlike before. The bracelet was from him and it would’ve made you feel better if he had listened.
“No more of this, you hear me? It’s just some stupid bracelet. Jesus Christ.”
Jake wasn’t perfect. He knows that– knows his children deserve better. He fears that when people ask them of him, they’d tell them how great of an olo’eyktan he is– how he fought against the sky-people, but never how he was as a father.
Your father loves you– loves everyone dearly. He would burn the whole world for his children– but the thing about fathers, they have an odd way of showing it.
As they finally near the large battleship, his hand pressed on the pager. “Babygirl, do you hear me?”
Your head perked up at the static coming from the pager discarded on the table right in front of you. Your body jerked against the binds desperately, “Yes, yes– sir I’m here!”
But he couldn’t hear you, not without you pressing on its button in return.
“If you’re listening, I’m coming, okay? Mama and I are coming to get you.”
You let out a stuttered breath, the beginnings of a sob bubbling up from somewhere deep inside you. It was no use anyway. You felt deflated as you sank down into your chair. Tears welled in your eyes, building itself up like a dam.
Jake anxiously waited on the other line, expecting to hear something back from you, but all he heard was the thump of his own racing heartbeat resonating in his ear as time seemed to stand still. His lips trembled as he softly spoke again, “I love you, kid. You know that, right?”
But you didn’t. You didn’t since everyone arrived at Awal’tu and for months, this was the first time you’ve heard of it again. It made your chest tighten in response, stomach knotting.
Oh Eywa, you missed your father. Missed him dearly.
This one time he had told you he had loved you. This one time where you needed to hear it the most and you couldn’t say it back. It’s true that your father had stopped being affectionate– but you’ve grown and stopped being as loving as you were as a kid too. You will always be your parent’s child– your daddy’s girl.
“I love you too.”
Life was so much simpler back then, and if Jake had just spoken to you, he may have figured out that his words had more value than any presents he could find. He fears that he might be too late.
Tumblr media
“We have to split up.”
“Split up?” Kiri shouts incredulously, holding onto Tuk tightly.
“There are at least three ships here, she has to be in at least one of them.”
“We’ll take the one from the south,” Ao’nung says, Tsireya quickly trailing behind. Kiri groans, knowing she couldn’t do anything but follow. Roxto followed her as they all nodded to each other, speaking in unsaid terms. Be safe. Please.
Lo’ak trots ahead, letting out another eager yip as they make their way towards the distant ship far up north. You had to be on one of them. You had to.
As he stealthily moves through the area, searching every nook and cranny, Lo’ak is determined to find you, leaving no stone unturned nor any corners checked. The lack of people around was suspicious and it made the atmosphere more eerie. As he scanned every cell, his eyes caught a battered Na’vi, head hung low– you. Quickly, he broke down the door with heavy locks.
“Lo’ak!”
“__!” He immediately rushes to you, taking off the restraints with brute force. Without a second thought, you engulfed him in a hug, nearly pushing him off his feet while he frantically searched for any serious injury, eyes swiftly scanning the cuts on your skin. “We have to go now.”
Both of you hurriedly try to exit the ship, steps heavily thumping across the metal floors. It was silent. Too silent. Like there hadn’t been a war at all. The ship was quiet, other than the crashing waves and footsteps. Not to mention the lack of recoms surrounding the area, you grew more and more nervous. “Where’s dad? He’s–”
“On another ship, we have to go.” He pulled you closer the edge where his Ilu had been waiting,
“Lo’ak, we’re not leaving him, are we?”
“Dad can handle it, I’m only here to take you home. Now please, come with me–”
“I know you don’t want to leave him too.” his lips drew into a thin line in response, immediately growing silent. His heart was thumping wildly, knowing that the decision was his to make. “Lo’ak, we can’t leave him.”
“Fuck it. Let’s go.”
Tumblr media
“Run– run, go!” Lo’ak's call was still echoing in your head as you sprinted, bullets whizzing past in all directions. Fear and adrenaline coursed through your veins as you darted and weaved throughout the area, momentarily hiding behind a steel wall.
Both of you had been searching for Jake and everyone but despite your best efforts, the only thing you were ever able to find was more trouble. What was supposed to be a relatively straightforward endeavor had quickly become an arduous task. You feared for your life and your brother’s.
“We have to jump now, __.” He pulls you out from your thoughts, panting heavily.
“We haven’t found dad yet or anyone– they could be in danger!”
“Listen, I’m not about to lose you in another dumb decision of mine. We’re going, do you understand?” He tugs on your wrists tightly. The look on his face told you that his decision wasn’t open for any negotiation anymore– this was about you and your safety. You offer a solemn nod, feeling a knot forming in your chest as your frown deepens.
As the shots come to an end, the avatars begin to disperse, frantically searching for both of you. Lo'ak forcefully pulls you to your feet and dashes towards the edge ready to take a leap, but the ship lets out a sharp screech as it leans further and further downwards into the vast ocean, both of you caught completely off guard. Water quickly rushes up to bathe the deck in a sea of white froth and foam, its relentless waves rocks the boat back and forth so harshly that you fall to your knees.
Lo’ak frantically looks around for something to hold onto, but it all happens too quickly; just as his hands latch onto a railing, it snaps and he begins to tumble along with the current and down an open trapdoor. He quickly holds on to its rusty edge, “__!”
You immediately slide towards him, grabbing his wrist. “I got you, just hang on.” While your other hand clutched your bloodied side, you groaned as you felt the skin surrounding it stretch, ripping more and more as you tried to hold on. “Lo’ak, please.”
“I can’t– I can’t!” Both your grips are loosening and you choked out a sob, feeling absolutely helpless. You could feel it– his fingers slowly slipping from your wrist. Your heart hammered on your chest as you extended your other hand.
“Brother please, grab my other hand,”
Another wave crashes towards both of you, and in that moment your grip on his wrist slips. You can feel the panic rise within you as you shout out his name desperately. His body falls, water completely engulfing him.
Without any hesitation, you jump down after him.
Tumblr media
You hastily scramble out of the water, eyes wide and scanning the wreckage that surrounds you for any sign of Lo'ak. All around you there is nothing but the ship itself, pushing you down with it. It loudly creaks once again, the sound vibrating off the walls.
You try to regain your composure– breathing slowly and steadying the beat of your heart, only for it to race yet again as another body emerges from the water, coughing violently.
“Lo’ak–!”
“I can’t find an exit.” He says, breathing heavily.
“I’ll go check again, you stay here.” The water was already rising and your frantic state wasn’t helping.
you said as the water level began to climb higher and higher. Your frantic state wasn’t helping either of your cause, but there was no time to think of that now. In order for the two of you to make it out alive, one of you had to remain calm and focused. You had to be just that– the bigger person. The big sister Lo’ak needs right now.
“No! You’re bleeding, I’ll go look.” He protests and you both exchange banters.
“I am your older sister, Lo’ak, listen to me– just let me do this.”
“I don’t care. You’re hurt already.”
“Lo’ak, don’t be so stubborn right now.”
“I’m a better swimmer than you!”
“Why are you being so stubborn, just stay here–!”
“Just let me do this for you, Neteyam!”
And that stuns you both.
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry.” He croaks, the words barely escaping his trembling lips. His guilt is palpable in the air as he hangs his head low in shame, trying to swallow the lump in his throat that is threatening to choke him. Lo’ak had to let it out now. Now that you’re here– now that you and him might never come out alive. “Maybe if I didn’t insist on coming there, we would still be back at home– with him. Maybe if I didn’t force everyone to come along, he would not have the need to save us.”
“Lo’ak, please..”
“But I did– I did, and now he’s gone. I lost him and I can’t lose you too,” You stayed there, like the water surrounding you was anchoring you on that very spot. You could only stare at him as he poured his every guilt. Your heart ached for Lo’ak– Lo’ak, your baby brother. Lo’ak who tried so desperately to be seen. “It’s my fault, __. I was just so jealous– so jealous that I forced you to join in because maybe then, you’d want to spend time with me too. I wanted what you had with Neteyam, what Kiri was to Tuk.”
“But I miss him, I miss my brother so bad.” Lo’ak continues to weep, tugging on his hair– hurting himself. “I hate that my body didn’t move towards you– towards him that night. Maybe then, I would’ve said goodbye. Maybe then, I would’ve told him I was sorry.”
You slowly swam to him, awkwardly taking his hands. Siblings were such a funny concept. They could say the harshest, most meanest thing– hurt you to an extent because they know you more than anyone else. But they would do anything– absolutely anything, just to keep you safe. Hell, would give a kidney if it means that you’d live. You miss Neteyam, terribly so, but does losing him make you less of a sister?
“I’m sorry, __. I’m sorry that it took me this long to tell you this, but every time you looked at me, all I could see was him. I miss Neteyam. I miss home. I want to go home.”
“We’re going home, okay?” You pull him close in your arms, burying your head on the curve of his neck as you try to contain a sob. “I see you, brother.”
“I’ve been nothing but difficult.” You feel his breath hitch as he tries to steady his breathing, heartbeat slowing down. “I don’t like how everyone has become since he died.”
“Me too, Lo’ak. Me too.” You whisper, rubbing circles on his back.  “I’m so sorry. I’m here now.”
As the two of you hold each other tightly, the water continues to rise around you with no sign of relenting. You both know that it will only be a matter of time until this ship finally gives in to its fate and sinks beneath the surface yet neither of you want to let go. There was something comforting with having Lo’ak near now that he had spoken of his troubles– something light.
“We’re going home.”
This was it, you thought, this is the end.

Ronal always had perfect timing, and today was no different. She found herself with an empty basket in her arms as she walked into the jungle in search of specific plants. She had walked for a bit before she noticed a shadow cast over her form. Looking up, Ronal watched an ikran fly overhead and land on the strong branches of a large tree, its rider jumping off and landing on the branch gracefully. Ronal took an educated guess on who the rider was and called up with her strict, ever so formal voice, "Y/n te Suli."
A head and a pair of ears perk up at her name, then Y/n looks down to see who had called her. Eyes slightly wide in surprise, she shakes off the shock and climbs down the tree, landing strongly on her legs in front of Ronal. She keeps her eyes dutifully lowered out of respect, keeping her expression stern and impassive as she touched her forehead then lowered her hand toward Ronal, "Ma tsahik."
Ronal appreciates the formality despite the way she shoved the empty basket in the young girl's arms, "I need to restock my herbs and materials, and there are certain components that require climbing. I could use you for those instances."
Y/n took one glance down at Ronal's baby bump before nodding in submission, following the tsahik through the jungle in search of her ingredients. They do their work in silence, Ronal occasionally explaining certain depictions of a plant Y/n needed to look for before sending the girl up a tree, but other than that, they don't mutter another word. That is, until after Ronal deemed the assortment of acquired plants enough for her stock and walked with Y/n all the way back to the village. The walk through the jungle had been tense and Y/n didn't know how to entertain or even converse with Ronal. The tsahik was an intimidating woman, sometimes more so than her own mother. Y/n doubted that Neytiri and Ronal ever spoke a word to each other even as the Metkayina was teaching the Omatikaya woman her ways. If Neytiri didn't know what to say to Ronal, Y/n doubted she could either.
However, Ronal spoke first, and she spoke as bluntly as ever, "So it would appear that your brother has taken a liking to my daughter."
Y/n sputtered, surprised by the older woman's statement as she tries clambering for a more appropriate response. She knew that whatever was going on between Lo'ak and Tsireya was sweet and strictly innocent -for the time being- but for it to come to Ronal's attention was a bit concerning, to say the least, "Oh... uh... has he?"
Ronal doesn't appreciate the unintelligent stutter, ears flattening as she narrows her gaze at the forest child, "I am not stupid, girl, and neither are you. So quit pretending that you are."
There's a slight shift between them, and some sort of mask slips from Y/n's face right before Ronal's very eyes. The Metkayina tsahik observes the way Y/n straightens her posture and sternly frowns, glaring at the path ahead of her instead of at Ronal. Clearly, she didn't appreciate the insult, "What would you like me to say? That I disapprove? Technically, I don't."
Ronal wasn't one to turn down a challenge, and she was already intrigued by this side of Y/n, "Explain."
"Na'vi have mated with other Na'vi from different clans before, at least where I'm from. It's not unusual."
"You think that is why one must disapprove?"
"What else is there to disapprove of? That they're young?" Y/n nods in agreement, "They are, and obviously, they should wait until they finish their Iknimaya, but that shouldn't deter them from choosing one another."
"I see."
Y/n spares a glance at Ronal, narrowing her eyes with as much bravery as she could muster, "But I know that's not why you disapprove."
Ronal quirks an eyebrow ridge, challenging the girl, "No?"
"You disapprove because Lo'ak is a half-breed. Part tawtute." Ronal doesn't answer Y/n's accusation and instead watches silently as Y/n raised her five-fingered hand up to her face, examining the offending limb with pinned ears and sad eyes. Y/n brings her hand back down, still walking beside Ronal even as she started to feel small, "Maybe your son was right. That we are freaks... but your daughter doesn't see us as freaks. She thinks we're special, especially Lo'ak. I mean, it's not every day you have Omatikaya half-breeds bonding with a tulkun around here, right? Lo'ak has done the impossible and he should be given more respect as the son of Toruk Makto."
Her words were strong, stronger than Ronal has ever heard from Jakesully's oldest daughter. She knew Y/n was once strong-willed, remembering the day Ao'nung crawled back home and mentioned how Y/n broke up a fight with him and her brothers using her ikran and strongly-worded threats. But as of late, Y/n has barely spoken to anyone except for her remaining siblings and friends. Ronal couldn't recall the last time Y/n spoke in either her or her mate's presence, usually leaving her parents to do the talking. Somehow, the once mute girl let her mask slip in her little brother's defense, walking confidently beside the tsahik who dared to insult her family. Ronal had to give credit where it was due. There weren't many people alive who would dare speak to her so proudly and without courtesies.
"You are a boldly spoken girl, Y/n te Suli Neytiri'ite. Although my children tell me that you don't speak as much of late."
Her tail droops closer to her side as they walk, and Y/n doesn't bother hiding her shame, "I guess not. There isn't much to talk about."
"No?" Understanding etches across Ronal's elegant features, adjusting the basket in her arms as she pins her eyes ahead of her as they walked, "I suppose you are much like me that way. I let my mate do the talking if I think the need to talk is pointless or exhausting. I prefer to sing."
She catches Y/n's tail perking up in surprise, and it took a lot of willpower not to smirk as her amusement flourished in her chest. Y/n's jaw nearly gapes open, "You sing?"
"Yes... my Spirit Sister, Ro'a, she would sing with me."
Y/n immediately regrets asking, instantly catching the wave of sadness and distress that washes over the tsahik. It was still a loss she carried close to her chest, and Y/n understood where she was coming from and how she felt. They had both lost someone dear to them that fateful day, and the wounds still bled as if the loss was still fresh.
Y/n decided that she didn't like Ronal bleeding alone and feeling so vulnerable, allowing herself to remember bittersweet memories of her own, "... Neteyam would fly with me. All the time, whenever I asked. While we fly, he'd listen to me whenever I needed to vent my anger."
Ronal looks back at the forest girl, nearly a young woman. The tsahik's expression was impassive and Y/n could tell the gears in her head were spinning, but unsure of the what or why. Ronal nods solemnly, "I no longer prefer to sing. You no longer prefer to talk. Do you believe our tsmuktu would wish that for us?"
Neither female had thought of that before, and for some reason, whatever conclusion came to mind, the thought lifted their spirits, even if only for a little while. Y/n felt lighter for the first time in a while, since before Neteyam's death, and she didn't feel shame in letting her eyes get warm and blurry, the path ahead a little unidentifiable. Ronal doesn't comment and lets the girl shed her silent tears as the pair finally makes it to the edge of the jungle, spotting the village right up ahead. Y/n quickly wipes away her tears and just in time, too. As they approached the village, Ao'nung was sighted walking up to them. He had seen Y/n first and grinned widely, but the expression quickly falls when he noticed the woman walking beside her. Jogging up to his friend and his mother, he glanced between them with caution, waiting for either bomb to go off if one of them spoke.
When neither woman spoke, Ao'nung broke the ice first, addressing the Omatikaya girl, "Hey, Y/n. Rotxo and I are going bodysurfing later and we thought you might want to join."
Ronal spared a glance at Y/n and caught the forest girl smiling for the first time, but she wasn't smiling at Ronal. The tsahik followed her gaze until her own eyes landed on Ao'nung, and suddenly some puzzle pieces were fitting into place. Ao'nung was smiling back, and it wasn't one of his usual smirks or promises of trouble. He was smiling, genuine and happy.
Ronal ignores her son for the moment, turning to Y/n before the girl could even give Ao'nung her answer, "Thank you for your help, child. You may go now."
Y/n quickly broke out of her train of thought, remembering where she was, and dropped the smile. She nods to Ronal before sparing a lingering glance at Ao'nung, walking away as she spoke over her shoulder, "See ya later, Seawee-- Ao'nung."
Ao'nung had laughed even as the girl vanished from sight. Ronal sternly cleared her throat and the laughter immediately stops, the boy straightening his spine, standing in attention to his mother. The tsahik decides to stare at him for a long period of time in order to make him squirm uncomfortably, then she bluntly asks the question buzzing in her mind,
"Do you wish to court Y/n?"
The question stuns Ao'nung, his ears and eyebrow ridges sticking straight up to the sky. He gapes like a fish, trying to find an appropriate answer. Ronal felt a little smug and satisfied as a darker shade of blue begins to form underneath her son's skin, even without a straight answer. Serves him right. Ronal knew she was going to need to fuss over Tsireya's infatuation with the Sully boy, but she didn't think she'd have to fuss over her own son so soon. Why were her children growing up before their little sibling entered the world?
Finally, Ao'nung lowers his gaze to his feet as he forces out a single word, "No."
Her brow ridge rose, a little surprised by the answer, "Why not?"
She was prepared for him to say many things, like how Y/n was not true Na'vi or that she was of a different clan, but Ronal wasn't prepared for when her son finally answered, "Because she's hurt right now. She lost her brother. I just... want to be there when she's ready."
Ronal tilts her head, curious, "For what?"
Ao'nung had the decency to look bashful, shrinking into his shoulders and lowering his ears. He looked as though he didn't have an answer either, unsure of himself while questioning the words on his tongue, "Moving on with her life? Is that stupid?"
She knows her son has every right to feel vulnerable around her, as his mother, but Ronal couldn't help but roll her eyes at his idiocy. With her basket under one arm, she loops the other through Ao'nung's and begins tugging him back in the direction of their family's marui, "No, son... but she said you once called her a freak. Surely you don't feel that way if you wish to court her?"
He bristles with annoyance, a trait he, unfortunately, inherited from Ronal, "Mother--"
"Fine. 'Not' court her."
Ao'nung relaxes his shoulders a little, his voice softening, "I don't think she's a freak. I think she's amazing."
Ronal hums, nodding occasionally to any Metkayina they pass by as mother and son trudge through the pathways of their village, "So. You do not wish to court her. Not right now at least. You are waiting for her."
"Yeah. I... I guess I am."
"You cannot guess," Ronal spoke sternly, stopping in her tracks and forcing her son to do the same as she glared him down, "You have to be sure, Ao'nung. You are our future olo'eyktan and you cannot afford to second-guess yourself. And you certainly cannot second-guess yourself when choosing a mate. It is for life, boy, do you understand?"
Ao'nung gulps and quickly corrects himself, "Yes. I'm sorry, Mother, I guess--" he winced when her eyes narrowed, "I mean, I'm just confused. I thought you would disapprove of Y/n."
Understanding the hidden question, she hisses under her breath and begins walking again, pulling Ao'nung along, "I will admit. She's not someone I would choose for you. She is not a healer and she prefers the sky over the sea. But it has never been my choice and she is Metkayina now. One of us. I will just have to surrender to the idea of both of my children choosing former Forest People before anyone born of the sea."
His body relaxed into her side, gladly walking beside her now instead of acting like he was forced to. He quietly muttered how grateful he felt, "Thank you. Wait-- what do you mean both children? Where's Tsireya?"
A wry smile graces Ronal's lips, patting his hand in pity, "Oh, my son. You are so blinded by your own infatuation that you never noticed your sister's. At least I will have a third child to distract myself from your foolishness."
They return home and Ronal finally lets her son free of her grasp. He had hurried off, likely to get away from his mother and also to track down Tsireya (or strangle Lo'ak, whichever comes first). Stepping into the hut, Ronal finds Tonowari inside, gutting the fish he had caught that morning. The olo'eyktan looks up and catches her gaze, and whatever he sees in her eyes has him standing up to reach out to her, "Ma Ronal?"
"We need to talk."

Jake knows that he should be more actively involved in his eldest child's life, but for the moment, Y/n has made it a game to avoid him. When he wanted to initially talk to her, she had slipped away to go bodysurfing with some of the other Metkayina her age. Jake found himself alone in their family's marui, waiting for everyone to return now that he wasn't able to talk to his daughter one on one. It made him think about Neteyam, and how the boy would've easily gone after his twin to talk to her. The thought made Toruk Makto greatly admire and miss his first boy all at once. He always relied on Neteyam to wrangle up his siblings, and for Y/n, he relied on her twin to talk to her for him. Neteyam always knew how to talk to Y/n. How to calm her, how to excite her, and he especially knew how to help his parents talk to her. Between the twins, Neteyam was more open about his emotions, but even that was a great feat. Neteyam didn't talk about it unless asked to, so if it was difficult to squeeze out Neteyam's inner thoughts, Jake wondered just how impossible would it be to reach Y/n's.
The struggling father even debated going back to the Spirit Tree to ask Neteyam what to do, but that inner turmoil made him feel so pathetic. How pathetic of a father was he that he needed to reach out to his dead son for help when it came to talking to his daughter? As a parent, Jake should be the one to have wisdom and give it freely to his children, not the other way around. Then again, it had been so long since Jake's own twin brother had died that he forgot that twins are on another level of understanding compared to the rest. Neteyam would always know Y/n best and vice versa, and that was something Jake had accepted a long time ago. Now, however, with Neteyam gone and Y/n left in a world without her other half, Jake was trying to understand her the way her brother always did.
It didn't help that Y/n has yet to go to the Spirit Tree herself. She refused to go see her brother and refused, even more, to talk about it. Jake wanted tonight to be the night they talk, so even after the rest of his family left to go to the communal meal, he waited.
He heard laughter coming from outside, ears moving wildly before he even raised his head. He recognized one of the laughs to be Y/n, and his chest squeezed at the familiar sound, wishing he could hear it more. After he heard her wishing her friends goodnight, he heard footsteps approaching, but not at the entrance of the marui. Looking up, he continued to hear the footsteps above him and realized that Y/n was climbing up the mangrove tree roots sheltering their home.
Jake goes outside, calling up, "Hey, sweetheart? Can you come down here, please?"
Y/n was sitting towards the top of the tree root but obediently climbed back down at her father's request. Hopping down and landing in front of him, she had jostled the bouncy walkway and stood straight up, tilting her head up at Jake in question. Once again, Jake found himself at a loss for words, unsure of what to say to her without her twin here to tell him, "Hey... feeling alright?"
She raised an eyebrow and shrugged, finding the outside wall of the marui more interesting to look at than her father, "I guess so."
Jake nods, deciding now was the time as good as any, "I was wondering if you and I could go to the Spirit Tree. I thought you might want to visit your brother."
Immediately, her posture shrinks and her eyes lower to her feet, and Jake was half afraid that she might burst into tears. Meanwhile, Y/n was thinking back to what Ronal had told her, wondering about both Neteyam and Ro'a and how they would feel knowing that their sisters were living miserable lives without them. She wanted to be able to live a life Neteyam would be proud of her for, but even now, the idea of looking him in the eye and telling him what she had been up to since his death made her stomach churn, "... I don't think I'm ready for that yet."
"Are you sure?" Pity and concern swim in Jake's own eyes, lifting his hand and settling it gently on his daughter's shoulder, "It might help."
She frowned down at her feet, "Help with what?"
"It's just... you never got to say goodbye."
Her watery eyes peer up at him then, and Jake felt like he was being punched in the gut as venom drips from her words, "You mean I never got to watch him die? Nobody got to say goodbye, Dad."
"He wanted to say goodbye. He was trying to," What kind of a father was he if he couldn't comfort his child? Jake scrambled to find the right things to say, and instead, he blurted out what he knew would only make Y/n feel even more distressed, "Neteyam... he wanted me to tell you something. He wanted me to tell you to... to 'find more?'"
He wasn't expecting Y/n to rip herself out of his hold on her, and he wasn't expecting her to stare up at him as if he had burned her, full of pain, shock, and utter betrayal. Her whole body began to shake, but not from crying. Even as tears welled up and fell from her eyes, Y/n's fangs were bared as she began to angrily spat, "That stupid, selfless, self-sacrificing kalweyaveng!"
Jake's posture turns rigid, glaring down at his daughter as if ready to lecture her, appalled by her speaking ill of the dead, "Y/n!"
"Just leave me alone!" She screamed back, too angry to even bother thinking about another lecture from her father. She spun around with the intention to run, but Jake reached out and firmly grasped her arm to keep her from escaping.
"I've done nothing but leave you alone!" She flinched and Jake immediately lowered his voice, exhaling the abrupt anger and forcing himself to calm down, but still spoke sternly, "I have given you your space and time because I knew you were in a lot of pain. I knew how you were feeling because I know what it's like to lose a twin brother. It's time we finally talked, young lady."
"About what?" She asked, keeping her back turned to him.
"About that day. Your side of the story."
Y/n spun back around, tears still spilling from her eyes even as she glared at her father in disgust, "You mean you want me to tell you why I wasn't there to save my brother from dying?"
Jake's grip froze, and for the life of him, Jake couldn't figure out why his muscles refused to move. It was like an arrow had punctured him through the heart, the disgusting accusation still evident on Y/n's face. His anger disappeared, being replaced by shock and disbelief, "What?"
"You heard me."
Jake sucked in a sharp breath. Had she always felt this way toward him? "No, sweetheart, I would never--"
"It doesn't matter if you did or didn't think that, what matters is that's exactly what I expect from you." She straightened out her shoulders, defiant, even through her soft cries. She looked so confident and the fact that she was confident about Jake's behavior made his heart shatter. Since when should a child be so sure of their parent's motivations? "At this point, everything you have done up until now has led me to believe that you would blame me for not being there. After all, that's what you did to Neteyam. You blamed him or held him responsible whenever one of us did anything wrong. So what else should I expect from you now that I'm the older sibling?"
Jake's eyes blink rapidly, voice so quiet he hardly recognized it, "Y/n... I am so, so sorry. That had never been my intention."
She wipes her face with the back of her hand, "It's too late for you to apologize. It's too late for anything you could possibly do to make up for it. Neteyam is gone," her voice cracked under the pressure of such a heavy word. She wished she didn't have to finally admit it, and she wished she felt less angry at the sight of her broken father, staring down at her on the verge of tears, "He had to die for you to realize what you did was wrong. You couldn't have tried to change when he was still alive? No. You couldn't. And I can never forgive you for that."
~~~~~~~~~
Y/n decided to sleep on the very far end of the marui that night, away from her family and their hammocks, with her back turned and outright refusing to speak. Neytiri asked what happened with only her eyes, to which Jake's ears pinned back and he simply looked away, unable to look his wife in the eyes when he admitted that he screwed up. The parents spoke quietly to each other that night, talking about what happened in quiet enough whispers so none of their children could hear. Not that it mattered, since Spider snored loud enough to drown any unwanted sound out.
"Just give her time, Ma Jake... she is young and doesn't fully understand what she says."
Jake tries his best to shake his head, but it was currently nestled comfortably in the crook of her neck, "She's not a little kid, 'Tiri. She's not Tuk. She's old enough to finish her Iknimaya and be considered a warrior of the People. She knows what she's saying, and she's finally saying it. She's going to be sixteen soon, and she is struggling to figure out what that means for her. Her father treats her like an adult and her mother treats her like a child. It's confusing her."
Neytiri lightly pinched his arm, quietly snarling in retaliation, "I treat all my children that way. My babies can grow up all they want. They will stay my babies for the rest of their lives."
Jake smiled into her neck, placing a small kiss there in admiration of how much Neytiri fiercely loved their family. Neytiri smiles to herself and wraps her arms more securely around her husband. They stay like that for a few moments until Neytiri huffs in exhaustion, bringing her hand up to play with his hair, "I can hear your thoughts. Out with them."
He's quiet for far too long like he was trying to pretend he was sleeping to get himself out of it. When Neytiri pinched him again, he finally spoke, "... Our baby is going to be sixteen soon."
Neytiri grows quiet with him, alone together in their home while their children are off in their dreams. Neither of them say it, but they were both thinking about it. Only one of the twins will be sixteen soon and will continue to grow old, while the other will forever remain fifteen, stuck in time. Jake's throat closes up at the thought. He was a twin, left behind by his brother, alone in a world that hated him and his existence. He barely survived on his own, especially in a wheelchair. Then his drinking habits got him kicked out of nearly every bar in the vicinity of his living quarters. His drinks and his wheelchair were never a good mix, and Jake knew if he stayed on Earth any longer, he would have been dead.
Jake knew that Y/n was stronger than him in every way possible. She could never fall as low as he did when Tommy died. He thought by letting her grieve the way she wanted to, the two of them could start over and heal after losing Neteyam. Looking back on his choices, Jake had regretted it, because all the while Y/n was grieving for her brother, she was also believing that her father hated her.
His arms tighten around Neytiri, trying to bury his face even further in her neck when he felt hot tears threatening to spill in the corners of his eyes, "I feel like we're losing her, too..."
"We're not," she spoke sternly, though it cracked under the pressure of her own tears, "We won't. I cannot lose another baby, Jake. I cannot..." She swallows down the bile in her throat, clearing her airway and taking a deep breath to collect herself, "Y/n is not alone. There are other people who are around her every day who love her and want to see her happy. She has more than just us. We will have to accept that we cannot fix everything for our children. Sometimes, we have to let other people do it for us, especially if our children do not want our help."
He hums in agreement, a small weight lifted from his shoulders, but not all of it. Just enough to make him feel secure, at least for the night. His eyes grow heavy and before long, Jake is finally asleep.
Whatever anxiety he felt the night before returned when he woke up the next morning and realized Y/n was already gone.
Neytiri was already awake and calmed him down, claiming that their daughter had left for the day to take a break from everything. When Jake asked if Neytiri knew where she went, his wife only shook her head, "I knew it would be best not to ask. Wherever she is going, she does not want us to follow her."
Despite their talk yesterday, Jake didn't feel the least bit reassured. He tried not to let it bother him as he goes about his day, taking a break from his usual chores to watch his other kids play around in the water. He should have been doing this from the beginning, watching over all of his children so they could enjoy their innocence just a little bit longer, instead of having Neteyam or Y/n do it. By noon, the children were all exhausted from playing and Lo'ak even asked if he was allowed to go check on Payakan. Jake almost agreed, but his anxiety got the better of him, "You can, but only after your sister returns. I... don't want more than one of you being apart right now."
And surprisingly, Lo'ak accepted his father's explanation and it threw Jake through a loop. Who knew that actually communicating with your kids will lead them to understand you a bit better? After he brought the kids home to eat lunch with their mother, Jake noted how Y/n was not back yet and so he told Neytiri that he was going to look around. She rolled her eyes but nodded.
Jake searched for places he's seen his daughter in the past but found no one that fit her description. He then went into the jungle to check on her ikran, and to his surprise, Evi was still there, confused but curious as to why her rider was not with him. Bob hissed at Jake with annoyance, clearly offended by the lack of attention around here, so Jake took him out for a short flight, using the bond to instruct him where to go.
The next place he looked for her was the Spirit Tree, flying half a dozen circles around the whole area to see if he could spot Y/n, but came up empty. Jake tried not to full-blown panic, and so did his best to fly home and try not to think about it too much. He told Neytiri that he had never been able to find Y/n by the time the whole village was starting to trickle back home for the day. The sun was still out and everyone was going around to start making preparations for the communal dinner. Now Neytiri was starting to get worried and voiced her concerns. So finally, Jake did what he should've done before and made a trip to the chief's marui.
"Have either of you seen Y/n?"
Ao'nung and Tsireya's heads perk up at Jakesully's voice and the mention of Y/n. Both of the reef siblings glance at one another from inside the hut while they could hear Toruk Makto speaking to their parents outside, "We looked everywhere. She's not with her ikran. We checked the Spirit Tree. Nothing."
Tonowari's voice spoke next, "Do you think she is in trouble? We can have a search party sent out for her."
Jake's voice sounded resigned, ashamed, "No, I think she just wants to be left alone. We had a fight yesterday and she ran off before we woke up. But if it gets dark out, I'd appreciate the search party."
Silence followed and Ao'nung could only assume that Jake had left. The reef boy's heart was loudly beating in his ears to the point he had barely noticed Tsireya gently placing her hand on his arm. He spares a glance at her and regrets it. She only stared back as if she held the all-knowing Eywa in her hands. The siblings part when their parents reenter the marui, and Ronal's eyes immediately found her son's with the same knowing expression her daughter bore.
"You know where she is, don't you?"
She's met with silence, the whole hut practically heavy in it as Ao'nung only stared back with a guilt-ridden expression. Tonowari sighed out through his nose, ridding himself of the heavy weight of the situation. He lifts his arm out to the doorway, "Go, boy. Bring her back."
Ao'nung quickly nods and rises to his feet, "Yes, Father."
While watching her son leave, Ronal calls out, "Make haste. I do not want her mother to worry for much longer."
~~~~~~~~~
Ao'nung didn't waste any time. He called an ilu and took off, leaving the village behind him as he followed the beach further up the island. As he arrives at Sänrr Rong, he found a lone ilu, strapped to a harness but floating around without a rider, diving down and inspecting the coral to keep itself busy. Ao'nung disengages from his own ilu and watches the pair going around excitedly playing together before he got out of the water to climb the cliff. He grabs onto vines and rocks and pulls himself up, briefly remembering what the forest kids had done to climb up faster the last time they were all here. He eventually reaches the top, pulling himself over the ledge and catching his breath, exhausted in his haste to get up here. The wind was whipping wildly through his hair as he looks around, immediately finding what he had been looking for.
Y/n was sitting close to the edge of the cliffside where the kids would normally dive from. She had her legs tucked up to her chest and rested her chin on her knees, looking out onto the vast ocean, her mind far away. She wanted to go somewhere quiet, somewhere not many Na'vi travel alone. She hadn't been here in a long time, remembering the last time she had gone to the Glow Tunnel. All the kids were there, having a blast, even having a picnic whenever they took a break from jumping into the water. Y/n stayed on top of the cliff the whole time, still refusing to ever take the leap. She stayed with the basket full of fruit whenever one of her other friends or siblings came around looking for a refreshing treat. She remembered laughing and warning them about stomach aches, especially when Rotxo insisted on chowing down a whole fruit on his own before jumping in for a swim. He regretted that by the time he had climbed back up the cliff, taking a nap instead of rejoining the fun.
Neteyam never looked younger than in those moments at Sänrr Rong, having fun and enjoying being fifteen. He loved cliff diving, especially when he and Lo'ak would race to the bottom or back up to the top. He was always trying to convince Y/n to join them, but each time, she refused and would watch her twin leap into the sky and plummet down into the water.
Now, she sat alone, wishing that her brother was there to ask her to join in the fun. She didn't have to delve into those thoughts for much longer as finally, she heard rustling behind her, footsteps slowly making their way toward her. Eventually, Ao'nung sat down beside Y/n, as he always does nearly every day since she lost her brother, and like always, they sit in silence before eventually, the curiosity ate at him.
"What are you doing up here?"
"Waiting for you." She responds automatically, rising to her feet before her courage could disappear, "Jump with me?"
He peers up at her, surprised, eyes flicking from her face down to her hand when she offered it to him. Ao'nung gulps down the nerves and reaches up, marveling at how small her hand was in his as she helped him rise to his feet again. Ao'nung tries not to keep staring at their joined hands, taking a moment to curl one of his fingers around her smallest, the pinky, the one he used to tease about to her and her siblings relentlessly. Looking back, even Ao'nung wanted to punch himself in the face. There was nothing wrong with the extra finger. In fact, if nothing else, an extra finger just means more to hold.
Realizing he still hasn't answered Y/n's question, he glanced back up to her eyes, blue meeting yellow, like a sun meeting the ocean, "Frakrr."
She beams up at him with her eyes, and her hand clasps more firmly into his. Looking down at the edge of the cliff, she sees the height, the fall, and the water down below. A chill runs down her spine, but it's more from the wind running through her hair than the fear. The wind felt like a comforting hand on her head, urging her forward, and she was not afraid.
Neither of them counts or speaks. Without looking to one another for reassurance, the two teens jump. They both scream, but it's out of delight and excitement, a rush running through them as they fall, fall, fall.
SPLASH.
It was like Y/n blinked and she missed it. One moment she was at the cliff's edge, then the next she was in the water, holding her breath while simultaneously clutching onto Ao'nung's hand so he couldn't get away even if he wanted to. She looked back to find him, and he was already smiling at her, grinning from ear to ear, eyes full of pride and adoration. He pulled his hand out of hers but only so he could excitedly sign to her, 'You did it!'
Y/n mistakenly laughs underwater, the sound muffled by the sea that runs into her mouth. She sputtered, and Ao'nung tries not to laugh himself, taking Y/n's hand back and helping her swim up to the surface. When she emerges from the water, she was still smiling as she coughed, and to Ao'nung it was one of the most baffling and wonderful sights. It was like watching a baptism. Before, she was just a shell, now she smiled, full of life and love and hope.
The Na'vi believe that every person was born twice, and Ao'nung was starting to believe he had just seen it happen with his own two eyes.
They found themselves laughing. Not sure at what, just laughing, likely from the adrenaline rush. It was definitely fun, and Y/n would love nothing more than to climb back up that cliff and jump again. All those other times she and the other teens would come here, and to think she had missed out on all that fun. She never wanted to miss another second of it. Through her laughter, she had closed her eyes. When she opened them, Ao'nung was still right in her field of view. He still laughed, head floating over the water, flyaways of his hair sticking to the sides of his head, framing his face. Y/n's heart leaped in her chest, similar to the cliff dive. She wadded closer to him, barely to the point Ao'nung didn't notice. They were close now, but Ao'nung didn't realize this until he took a moment to catch his breath and noticed that Y/n was no longer laughing. He opened his eyes and his laugh cuts off, eyes widening out of curiosity, wondering what she was doing.
She laughed under her breath when he looked at her like a curious little puppy. Her laugh is infectious so he continues to do the same, and suddenly her nerves have escaped her. The rush is still there, beating loudly in her chest. Every thought in her head continuously tells her to 'jump, jump, jump!'
Y/n took the leap again, only this time, she jumped at the right opportunity to kiss Ao'nung, silencing their shared laughs and molding their lips together in perfect harmony. If it weren't for the crashing sounds of waves, Y/n thought Ao'nung would be able to hear just how loud her heartbeat was. But he was otherwise occupied, one of his arms automatically finding their home around her waist, the other arm keeping them afloat above water. He eagerly kissed back without hesitation. It was like he knew she was going to kiss him, but didn't at the same time. It was hard to explain. He was obviously surprised by the kiss but he didn't hesitate to respond, knowing that this was something he desperately wanted but had refrained himself from taking it. He was happy to wait for Y/n for as long as she needed, but when she kissed him, Ao'nung decided that he was allowed to be selfish, just this once, until Y/n is ready again.
It was hard for her to admit, but Y/n liked it when Ao'nung was selfish. When she had to part the kiss for air, he had eagerly chased after her for more, and that only made her heart swell in adoration. She giggled, rewarding him a small peck on his mouth whilst she gasped quietly for air, leaning her forehead against his. They embrace like this for a while, basking in the peace and the overwhelming happiness breathing between them, listening to the serene sounds of the ocean and feeling the rushing heartbeat of the person they held in their arms.
Of course, all good things must come to an end. And who else was able to ruin such a moment than Fish Lips himself, "If you wanted to get me alone, Forest Girl, all you had to do was ask."
Y/n scowled lightheartedly, rolling her eyes and pulling a laugh from him as he leans forward and kisses her cheek. She can't help but smile, watching her hands rest comfortably in the spaces between Ao'nung's shoulders and neck, gently pressing her thumbs into his muscle there.
"I knew you'd just find me here eventually."
"Mm. True," Ao'nung grins, "I'll play this hide-and-seek game of yours again if that means you'll kiss me each time as a reward."
The laugh she lets out is the most obnoxious one by far, a downright mockery of him as she playfully flicks his cheek with her finger, "Don't push your luck, Seaweed Brain. And unless you want to deal with our parents when we get back, you need to stop smiling like an idiot."
Oh, shit. The parents.

avatar headcannons:
how many kids does he want?
neteyam x reader, lo'ak x reader, ao'nung x reader (gn!)
Tumblr media
neteyam:
the most out of any other on this list, coming in with wanting five.
in the words of quaritch- "a whole litter."
just like his sa'nu and sempu, neteyam wants a big family, full of little ones.
lo'ak:
loves every single second of fatherhood.
whittles toys for his little ones, especially ones he remembers he or his siblings playing with growing up.
little wooden ikran, toruk, 'angtsìk- and ilu and tulkun, too.
can hold at least four of his kids at a time. one on each hip, baby in the sling on his front, and a toddler in the wrap on his back. worried he'll drop one if he tries all five.
five kids can be overwhelming, of course, but he'll never raise his voice at them- if he really needs to yell, he leaves the kelku for a minute to let out his frustration.
insists on braiding their hair himself. he loves to do it.
makes him feel more connected to his little one, twisting and braiding their hair as gently and carefully as he can.
most parents hate their kids crawling into bed with them. with all the limbs kicking and pressing into you all night, who can blame them?
but neteyam can barely sleep without an uncomfortable leg pressing into his back, anymore. it's how he knows all his little ones are here, all safe.
contrary to the some of the other headcannons i've seen on this site, i believe lo'ak would only like two children.
ao'nung:
he just wants a small, loving little family.
he decided on two for a reason, too.
lo'ak would have been perfectly fine with just one, but then he thought about it more.
lo'ak grew up with four others- his siblings, his best friends.
he wanted that for his little, too.
becomes so calm, so easy-going and soft around his children.
lo'ak can obviously be reckless- but when he's with his babies, he's calm. his focus is only on them.
his favorite part of fatherhood is play time. any game his kids want to play, he wants to play with them.
they want to pretend they're riding an ikran? climb on! they want to play in the water? look out, daddy's splashing!
always makes sure both of them are included in the game, too.
no one will be outcast in this family.
he honestly doesn't think about things like that. he would take a moment to think about it, deciding on three at the most.
it seems like a good number to him.
it's the number of kids his parents had, too, so that might be why he's so comfortable with it.
he definitely thinks four would be too many, but three? it just sounds perfect.
he's one of those dads that pretends to be all tough around others, but behind closed doors- he's absolutely melted.
bonus!
this man spoils them. and i mean that.
ao'nung is a fierce leader- strong and proud.
but if his little one were to tug on his clothes and ask for something? it's over. he's crumbled, gone, off to spoil his baby and give them anything they want.
i'm talking dessert before dinner, letting them stay up late playing, anything their little hearts desire.
also... he'd have all girls. he never specifically wanted a boy or girl, and obviously its not something you choose, but something about his genes, man. i'm telling you: three little daddy's girls.
spider:
one.
spider doesn't think he'd be a good father.
but there's still this want pushed to the back of his head- to one day have a baby of his own.
spider thinks he'd be a horrible father.
in reality, if spider ever ended up with a little one...
they'd be the most loved baby on that moon.
probably wouldn't put them down their whole infancy, preferring to have them curled up against his chest at all times.
he wouldn't spoil them- he's raise his little one to be independent, strong, their own person.
but he would also show them that they were loved unconditionally.
that no matter what- their father would always love them. always.

CHAPTER ONE: ALEA IACTA EST — THE DIE HAS BEEN CAST
masterlist
Tumblr media
Your heart sinks as you approach Michael Kaiser’s office with all the dread in the world. The door to his sleek office is ajar, and you can hear his confident voice, smooth and controlled, as he speaks on the phone. You knock lightly despite the entire wall setup being fully in glass, and push the door open. He glances up, a smirk playing at the corners of his mouth, as he motions for you to enter.
“Ah, there you are,” he says, hanging up the phone with a flourish. “I trust you’re ready to go over the case? ”
You force a smile, but your patience is already wearing thin. “Yeah, absolutely” you reply, taking a seat across from him.
Michael leans back in his chair, regarding you with an air of superiority that sets your teeth on edge. He’s dressed impeccably, as always, his suit tailored to perfection, his hair meticulously styled. You can’t help but notice the way his eyes gleam with a mixture of amusement and disdain, and it makes you want to knock a few teeth out of his mouth. Let’s see how much he’ll be smiling when his two front teeth will be gone, you internally grumble, more than ready to get this shitshow over with.
“The Greenwood Holdings case,” he begins, sliding a thick file across the desk towards you. “Corporate fraud, embezzlement… you know, the works. We need to get to the bottom of it, and fast.”
You nod, opening the file and scanning the contents. It’s a labyrinth of documents, emails, and financial records, each more intricate than the last. Your mouth curls in disdain and anger. ‘We’? He’s certainly not going to be the one to go through this entire thing. You’ll be doing all his dirty work, and get no recognition for it whatsoever. It’s what you’ve been doing, what you’re doing now, and no doubt what you’ll be doing in the future. Your mind races, already formulating a plan of attack. But before you can say anything, Michael interrupts.
“I’ll need you to handle the grunt work,” he says, his tone casual. “Go through the documents, highlight anything that looks suspicious, and compile a report. I’ll handle the big picture.”
“Grunt work? You do know I’m qualified for more than just spell checking, right?”
“If you’re qualified for more than just this, how come you’re still a paralegal, huh? How come you haven’t gone to law school?”
”I—“
“Listen, I don’t want your sob story. You’re not happy with this? Take it up with the managing partners. Take it up with Whitman, and get your ass kicked to the curb.”
You bristle at his condescension but bite back a retort. Stay as cordial as possible for the time being, you tell yourself. Once this case is over, you can tell him to go screw himself. Just not yet. Not yet. All in due time. “Of course,” you say, your voice tight. “Anything else?”
He leans forward, his eyes narrowing slightly. “Try not to screw it up, alright? This case is important, and I don’t have time to babysit rookies.”
With that, he turns his attention back to his computer, effectively dismissing you. You gather the file and leave his office, your blood boiling. A rookie? What kind of rookie has their own office? A paralegal with an office is unheard of. You are an asset to this firm, they need you and they value you. Who does this guy think he is, calling you a child? You’ve been here for 5 years. You’re no rookie. The audacity of the man, to treat you like an errand girl when you’ve proven yourself time and time again. You grit your teeth, and turn back to your desk. I’m gonna show him what a ‘rookie’ can do.
The first day is a blur of frustration and barely-contained anger. You immerse yourself in the mountain of paperwork, sifting through bank statements, emails, internal memos, searching for any inconsistencies or signs of fraud. It’s painstaking work, the kind that requires meticulous attention to detail and a sharp eye for anomalies.
As the hours tick by, Michael saunters in and out of the office, dropping all the more files on your desk with each trip he makes to your office, and a casual disregard for your growing workload. As if that wasn’t enough, Kaiser makes sure to pass on a snide and nasty comment, a thinly-veiled insult to grate on your nerves.
“Try to keep up,” he says with a smirk, tossing a stack of documents onto your already cluttered desk. “I need this by the end of the day.”
You bite back a sharp retort and force a smile. “Of course, Michael. I’ll get right on it.”
He raises an eyebrow, clearly amused by your thinly-veiled sarcasm. “Good. I knew you could handle it.”
You watch him walk away, your hands clenched into fists. He’s testing you, pushing your buttons to see how far he can go, but he can rest assured you won’t give him the satisfaction of seeing you crack. Asshole, you think. Pure-breed, world-class, grade A, asshole.
You take a deep breath, centering yourself before diving back into the mountain of paperwork. The Greenwood Holdings case is complex, with layers upon layers of transactions that need to be meticulously reviewed. Each document you open feels like another brick added to the already heavy load on your shoulders.
The day drags on, your eyes growing tired from staring at spreadsheets and dense legal text. Stretching your upper body as much as you can while trapped in the tight space between your desk and your chair, you decide to take a brief break and step outside for some fresh air. No one would blame you for it, anyway. No one could blame you.
As you step outside the hellish building you’ve been spending an abnormal amount of hours in, the crisp autumn air once again fills your lungs, momentarily clearing your mind. You lean against the building, savoring the quiet moment, and clearing your mind of any legal bullshit that’s been clogging any functional part of your brain for the better part of the day.
Just as you begin to relax, Michael’s voice breaks through your reverie. “Taking a break already? I didn’t realize the work was too much for you.”
You turn to see him standing there, a smug expression on his face. “I’ve been working non-stop all morning, sir. I think I’m entitled to five minutes of fresh air.”
He chuckles, shaking his head. “If you say so. I guess rookies do have to take a few breaks once in a while. Not that I would know,” he turns his head to you, analyzing your expression, “We don’t take breaks in law school.”
You roll your eyes and stomp your heel as he walks away, your frustration bubbling to the surface. He’s insufferable, and it’s only the first day.
Back at your desk, you relive the scenario that played out five minutes ago and try to deduce the glorious outcome if you had punched him straight in the face right away. Eventually, you determine it would probably entail a lawsuit, the loss of your job and perhaps community service for a few months, and decide not to dwell on it. So, with a renewed determination, you dive back into the given documents. If Michael thinks he can break you, he’s sorely mistaken. You pore over the records, highlighting transactions that seem out of place, making meticulous notes on everything that stands out. You lose yourself in the work, the hours slipping by in a haze of numbers and legal jargon.
Late in the afternoon, Michael reappears, leaning against your desk with a casual air. “How’s it going? Found anything useful?”
You look up from your work, meeting his gaze with a level stare. “I’ve identified several suspicious transactions. They all seem to trace back to a series of shell companies. I’m compiling a report now.”
“I want it on my desk in 10 minutes. And a coffee.”
“A coffee? Really? Who do you think I am?”
At your retaliation, Kaiser watches you intently, brows furrowed, and mouth corners curled downwards in displeasure. “I think you’re somebody who’s clearly not in my league and who answers to me. I think you’re someone who better get started on my coffee before I get you to pack your shit.”
Startled by his profanity and limbs paralyzed due to the sheer vulgarity he’s just employed to address you, you can’t help but nod, returning to your work as he saunters off. I will kill him. No, scratch that. I’ll report him to the founding partner, and then kill him. And then move to Oklahoma.
As the office begins to empty out, most of your colleagues heading home, their workday done, you decide to remain, determined to make as much progress as possible and show Kaiser just what you’re made of. The silence of the office at night is soothing, the hum of the fluorescent lights a constant background noise, until your friend, Anri, drops her bag near you.
“Lights out. Let’s go get drinks, you’ve had a long day.” she says, placing her hand atop your shoulder in compassion.
“Look I’d love to, ‘ri. I really would, but Kaiser is sucking the life out of me and if I don’t finish this right now, he’s gonna suck the life out of me tomorrow.”, you bury your face in your hands in exasperation, “And I can’t go and get myself out of this because he’ll get me blacklisted in the entirety of New York’s law firms and I just— Ugh. I can’t.”
”This is monstrous work. If he keeps going on like that, he’ll send you to the hospital. Look, if there’s any issue, blame it on me. He doesn’t know me, he can’t blacklist me.”
You look at her with all the hope in the world, but quickly come back to your senses. It doesn’t matter if Kaiser doesn’t know her, he’ll send her to hell regardless.
“I can’t let you do that.”
”Yes, you can, and you will. Come on,” she lifts up your arm in an attempt to pull you out of the chair, and you comply wordlessly. “Let’s go home.”
The next day dawns with a sense of grim determination. You’ve slept a daunting 4 hours and 36 minutes, and you’re pretty sure your brain was going into overdrive the entire time regardless. On top of that, despite your prospects of arriving at the office early, determined to get a head start on the mountain of work waiting for you, your resolve was tested almost immediately:
your cat had thrown up all over your new carpet, one of your heels broke on a hole on one of those damn manhole covers, and you missed your usual subway to your work building.
By the time you get to the office, hand in your hair in a desperate last attempt to look more presentable, Michael is already there, lounging in his chair, his feet propped up on the desk. He glances up at your sad appearance as you enter, a lazy smile spreading across his face. “Good morning. A few setbacks, I imagine ?”
You grit your teeth and nod. “Morning. What’s the plan for today?”
He gestures to the piles of documents on your desk. “Same as yesterday. We need to go through all of this and find anything that looks off. I’ll be working on the strategy, so don’t bother me unless it’s urgent.”
You nod curtly and get to work, your focus laser-sharp. You focus on the positive points: no Kaiser belittling you today.
Or at least, that’s what you thought. He drops by your desk every hour, dumping more work on you and making snide comments about your progress.
“Still working on that? I thought you’d be faster.”
“Don’t miss anything important. I’d hate to have to redo your work.”
Each remark is like a needle pricking at your patience, but you force yourself to stay calm. You know he’s trying to get under your skin, and you won’t give him the satisfaction.
But he doesn’t stop there. When he’s not adding onto your gargantuan workload, he passes his time by taking phone calls, right in front of your office.
“I actually, I was thinking more on the Upper East Side. Whaddya think?” He calls out with a wolfish grin in your direction. You don’t know what’s worse. Kaiser being a natural loud talker, or him doing it deliberately to get on your nerves.
Why don’t you check out the corner of 81st and kiss my ass, you grumble to yourself, staring at the pen in your hand. Maybe if you stabbed it deep enough in his neck, you could hit an artery or two and cut off his blood supply.
A few hours later, and you’re running on pure adrenaline and sheer willpower. The late nights and early mornings are taking their toll, despite the significant progress you’ve made uncovering several suspicious transactions and connections that could be key to the case. You’re clearly exhausting yourself to the bone, but Kaiser doesn’t seem to be able to care less. He sauntered over to your desk, glancing at your meticulously organized notes with a look of disdain. “Is that all you’ve got?”
You glare at him, your temper fraying. “These transactions are clearly fraudulent. If we can trace the money back to the source, we’ll have a solid case.”
He smirks, leaning in closer. “If you say so. Just make sure it’s airtight. I don’t want any mistakes.”
You nod, biting back a retort. “Understood.”
You try to settle back into your desk and concentrate again to get mentally prepared for another few hours of relentless work, when you’re summoned to the office of Mr. Whitman, one of the senior partners. Your heart pounds as you make your way down the hall, anxiety gnawing at you.
Mr. Whitman’s office is imposing, with dark wood furniture and shelves lined with legal handbooks. He looks up as you enter, his expression unreadable.
“Sit down,” he says, gesturing to the chair opposite his desk.
You sit, your nerves on edge. “Is there a problem, sir?”
He studies you for a moment before speaking. “I’ve been hearing good things about the progress you’re making on the Greenwood Holdings case.”
You nod, unsure where this is going. “Thank you. We’ve um,” For a moment, you wonder if you should mention the unbelievable amount of pressure you’ve been under for the past few days, but ultimately decided against it. “We’ve been working hard on it.”. Nevertheless, the mention of a ‘we’, despite the reality showing an urgent lack thereof is gnawing at you as well. Why are you even bothering to cover for him? Oh, right, he could fire you before you could even utter the word ‘trial’.
Mr. Whitman leans back in his chair, his eyes narrowing slightly. “How are you finding the arrangement with Michael Kaiser?”
The question catches you off guard, and you hesitate. “It’s... challenging, sir. But we’re making it work.”
He nods slowly, his gaze is piercing. “Challenging. That’s one way to put it. Are you satisfied with the way things are going? Is there anything you feel needs to be addressed?”
Your mind races, unsure how to respond. There’s a subtle undercurrent to his words, a hint that there’s more to this conversation than meets the eye, but you can’t quite decipher his intentions.
“I think we’re making progress,” you say cautiously. “It’s not always easy, but we’re getting the job done.”
Mr. Whitman’s expression remains neutral. “Very well. If there are any issues, don’t hesitate to bring them to my attention.”
You nod, sensing the conversation is coming to an end. “Thank you, sir.”
As you leave his office, you can’t shake the feeling that there was more to his questions than he let on. But for now, you push it aside, focusing on the task at hand. There’s still a long way to go, and you’re determined to see this case through to the end.

enjoy the silence II | ao’nung.
ao’nung x fem!sully!reader
previous part | part two | next part
Tumblr media
synopsis: Ao’nung’s words had hurt you, but his contradictory actions hurt you more. You realize your mistake in your idea that you’d be a good match, but it may have already cost you your life.
genre: angst.
contains: more pining from reader, mixed signals, ilu riding. mentions of near death experience, suffocation, overwhelming feelings. ao’nung literally being so confusing. requited love after all?
a/n: welcome to the second installment of enjoy the silence! the first part ended up being posted two days earlier than expected (the last time i ever schedule a post) and still needed scenes added but, i’m so happy you all loved it so much anyway! i tagged everyone who asked to be tagged. thank you guys so much for the support!
The morning after Ao’nung had said those things to you by the shore came quickly. After he had stalked off, you went back to your mauri, purposely taking the long way home to be with your thoughts for a while. Did you read his signs wrong? Was he even giving any signs to begin with? Or had you been clouded with the illusion of being a perfect pair that you hadn’t even considered how Ao’nung felt?
Your siblings could feel your slight sadness when you arrived back, but no one had questioned it much, save for a few, “Feelin’ alright?”s from your father. Moving to Awa’atlu had affected everyone, they had felt the overwhelming ache of homesickness every once in a while, they understood you were feeling down. If only they knew, your once source of happiness was now your source of distress.
Despite that, you weren’t angry with Ao’nung. Not at all. You understood where he was coming from completely. As the future Olo’eyktan, he needs to protect his people. That means protecting them from humans, and your family had brought that threat. If anything, it’s natural for him to be hostile towards you. That didn’t mean it didn’t hurt. But you were resilient.
You just had to prove to him you were more than what was running in your veins.
Today, like the past few days, was filled with training. Ao’nung was paired up with you, again. You felt uneasy at first, not wanting to make him more uncomfortable with you. He gave Tsireya a look, almost begging to switch partners. She only rolled her eyes and smiled when you reached them.
He must’ve told her how he felt about you, or maybe she had heard his harsh words to you last night. Either way, you’re sure she smacked him upside the head for upsetting you. Tsireya took a genuine liking to you, and she may or may not have been doubling her efforts in winning over the Sully family due to her liking of Lo'ak.
Once all together in the shallow water, Ao’nung began to call to the Ilu. Almost immediately, they swam up and circled him. It was mesmerizing, watching him call them so effortlessly, how they swam up to him so fondly.
“These are Ilu. If you want to live here, you have to ride,” he explained. You were excited, you had little trouble claiming your Ikran, surely this is no different.
Ao’nung faced you, pointing, “the demon girl will go first.” Your eyes widened, suddenly intimidated. But, you had to show him you weren’t just some forest girl with five fingers.
You swam up to an Ilu, petting it. It clicked at you, nudging you affectionately. This creature was so gentle, so sweet to you. Your Ikran was nothing but the opposite when you claimed it; squawking loudly, attempting to throw you over the edge of the cliff. You gained some confidence from its gentle demeanor, and climbed on top. Tsireya and Ao’nung swam up beside to keep the Ilu still and allow you to make a bond.
“Make the bond, and hold here,” Tsireya gestured to the handle. You pulled your queue from behind you, bare, pink nerves ready to make a connection. You took a deep breath and made the bond with your Ilu. Suddenly, you felt its being as whole, as a part of you. You felt its breath, its fins, how strong it is, how eager it was to swim with a new driver.
“Breathe from here, remember. Hold your breath when you dive, the Ilu is fast. But it will know when to go back up for air. It feels you, you feel it,” Ao’nung placed his hand on your upper stomach like he had done when training your breathing. You gasped quietly, not expecting such a gentle, forward gesture from him. Especially not after last night’s exchange.
Your golden eyes made contact with his, your brows furrowed in confusion. Hadn’t he just reprimanded you for just merely existing? Now he was touching you so delicately, like you’d break from too much pressure. Had last night really just been a bit? Just a teasing joke? Maybe he didn’t hate you after all?
His mixed signals made you feel fuzzy, your brain suddenly so confused. The Ilu felt it, too, and began to thrash around from the uncertainty you felt at Ao’nung’s touch. He removed his hand from you, much to your disappointment, to calm the Ilu back down to stillness.
You shook the thoughts about him out of your head, you had to focus. “I’m ready, I can do this.”
“Start slow, don’t hurt yourself,” Ao’nung’s tone was firm, but worried. Perhaps he did care for you.
You took another deep breath, and went off into the water.
You started slow, like Ao’nung instructed, getting comfortable with being pulled through the water by the Ilu. Gradually you sped up, gliding through the reef with ease.
The rush of adrenaline that flowed through you only made you more and more confident. The beautiful reef had you hypnotized, you felt so much while being wished around the glowy underwater plants and animals. The swirl of colors dizzied you in only the best way, leaving you in awe.
You reached a hand out to brush against the foliage as you flew past it. It was so soft to the touch. It only reminded you of Ao'nung's.
What he said greatly hurt you, joke or not. The contrast of his words then and now was so confounding to you. And with the thought of him back in your mind, you became tense, now losing your focus. You lost your balance on the Ilu along with your secure grip.
This thrashed you around some, but you could regain your composure. Unfortunately, it was proving difficult.
You underestimated the force of the water. Your grip on the Ilu faltered more with the ever growing speed. You couldn’t keep up, the pressure was too much. The rush of the water was now pulling you back, straining your limbs. Dreadful fear filled you when you realized, inevitably you’d be knocked off and sent into waters you weren’t familiar with at all, with animals and creatures you’d never interacted with.
You had underestimated the difficulty of riding an Ilu, just as you had underestimated Ao’nung’s impact on you. It was all too similar.
At first, you’d been confident and blinded by excitement. Excitement of meeting your seemingly perfect match. Excitement of trying something new. You weren’t careful, not assessing the situation completely before you dived in headfirst.
You didn’t take Ao’nung himself into account, how powerful his actions, his feelings are just as the water’s force is on your body now. Oh, how your impulsivity ricocheted back to you, but ten times stronger. Whiplash from Ao’nung’s mixed signals and the rush of the current you’re trying to push through.
You had to let go, you realized.
You had to let go of the Ilu before you hurt yourself. You had to let go of your delusional idea of yours and Ao’nung’s relationship before it drastically hurts you. Or him. You couldn't bear the thought of hurting him, in any way.
He didn’t feel the same, he never would. Spiraling down this idea would only complicate things more. You needed to let go.
With that, you took your grip off the Ilu, ripped from the back of the creature and sent off into the water.
Your breath had begun to ran out and you were so far down, clouded with thoughts of needing air and needing Ao'nung. Neither would come to you soon enough.
Unbeknownst to you, a pair of azure eyes caught sight of your descending figure before it was too late. He couldn't bear the thought of you being hurt. The thought alone was what was driving him to swim to you faster.
Ao'nung needed you, too.

Neteyam x Fem!Metkayina! Reader:
Tumblr media
warnings: none
context: (y/n) is a very socially awkward and shy girl. She has problems meeting new people due to her being very antisocial but maybe she will push back her anxiety and try to talk to the new Na'vi that has caught her eye. Neteyam on the other hand is intrigued by the girl, he already finds her cute at first sight but the more he interacts with her the more he finds himself adoring her attention wanting to get closer with the shy girl.
AN: I decided to move my wattpad story on here as well, I have already written 3 chapters so they will be shortly uploaded after this one. (That also means I ain’t proof reading them 😭 sorry)
Chapter two , Chapter three , Chapter four
Shy | Chapter One :
Tumblr media
It was one of your average days in Awa'atlu. The weather was  perfect today, not too cold and not too hot.
You were waist-deep in the water feeding the young ilu that were swimming ever so gracefully around you. One of your main chores around the village was to help take care of the ilu, making sure that they were well-fed and healthy.
Soft hums come from your mouth as you stand there basking in the sunlight. You take a deep breath in closing your eyes and become in tune with your surroundings. Hearing the distance chirps from the ilu, your fellow Metkayina people that were on land performing their everyday tasks.
You could feel the waves as they glided by you brushing against your aqua colored skin as well as the slight breeze in the air.
It was peaceful. Being in the water so in tune with everything really helps calm your nerves. It was your safe space, well besides your mother and father of course.
As you stand there, you become aware of two presences behind you by their taller shadows blocking the sun. Your open your eyes to be greeted by Rotxo and Aonung,
"Hey weirdo, what are you doing?" Rotxo teased swimming closer to your side with Aonung following behind him smirking at the name he called you.
You roll your eyes at them.
You grew up with them as well as Tsireya, At this point you were used to their childish behavior knowing they don't have bad intentions with you.
"....I was feeding the ilu" You reply in a soft voice looking up at them sheepishly.
"What ilu?...There's nothing around here" Aonung spoke with an eyebrow raised gesturing to the empty water.
You were taken back and looked around you to realize that, indeed the ilu from earlier are in fact gone. There were only some fish swimming in the distance.
You took a long pause trying to recall when that happened.
"Uh oh, did little (y/n) lose track of time again, You should be careful doing that" He gently knocked on your head in a scolding manner. "They were here earlier.." you whispered with a confused frown on your face. The two boys laugh at your airheadedness.
Losing track of time was a common thing you tended to do nowadays.
While the the two Metkayina boys make fun of you, all of you were cut off with the sound of the village horn.
You look above you and see 5 Ikran fly past you. It made Aonung's smile turn into a furious frown, immediately being alerted and left first diving back into the water with you and Rotxo following behind him.
Tumblr media
By the time you guys reached the village the group of Ikran had already landed and people were starting to crown around the new intruders.
The boys walked to the front of the crowd as people made way for Aonung. You slowly followed from behind, Seeing the Ikran this close to you for the first time was very intimidating. They could easily bite your head off or pick you up and take you away.
As the new Na'vi come into view you realize that they were not Metkayina people, They looked completely different. Their skin was a darker shade of blue. More slimmer figures, Their tails were smaller and skinny 'how do they swim?' you say to yourself but before asking any questions Rotxo spoke up.
"Look! What is that!? Is that supposed to be a tail?!" He points causing everyone to laugh at them. "Its too small! How are they supposed to swim?!" he continued.
Your ears immediately lowered while your eyes slightly widened, surprised he had the audacity to say that out loud. I mean...yes you were all thinking it as well- but you wouldn't blurt it out?!! , you awkwardly scoot away trying not to be associated with them.
They both look at you confused as if saying 'where are you going?' while you shake your head making an X with your arms and keep scooting away. Thankfully Tsireya comes to save the day by smacking their hands and scolding them and before you can scoot away anymore Aonung catches your elbow and pulls you back to them.
You smile at Tsireya saying a quiet hello before glaring up at the taller boy.
Before one of the boys can make any more of their dumb remarks, the Olo'eyktan and Tsahìk finally show up..but the Tsahìk doesn't seem too happy.
After everyone came to an agreement the Olo'eyktan began to speak again.
"Toruk Makto and his family will stay with us, Treat them as our brothers and sisters. They do not know the sea so they will be like babies taking their first breath." You looked at Aonung and boy did he not look happy.
"Teach them our ways, so that they don't suffer the shame of being useless."
'damn' you thought to yourself. kinda harsh…
He gestures to you guys, "My son Aonung and our daughter Tsireya will show your children what to do. (y/n).. You can help out as well" The Olo'eyktan looks down at you.
Your mouth agape, You start to stutter. "I, what?- but sir-, Uhm, I don't-" you try to refuse but realized who you were talking to and bowed your head. "Okay" You say barely above a whisper but somehow he heard you.
"But father- Why me-?!" Aonung pleaded to his father "I mean, you know (y/n) is too shy also- why make her-"
"Because I said so, Plus-" He turned to look at you. "You can work on your socializing little girl" he raised an eyebrow in a scolding way. It was true. You were a very shy girl. You didn't talk to anyone outside of Tsireya, Rotxo and Aonung.
Here and there some of Aonung and Rotxo's friends would try to converse but you always hid back in your shell and kept the talking short.
Soon everyone cleared up and it was only you guys and the new people. Tsireya grabbed your hand and walked closer to them. "We can help you carry some stuff! I will also show you to your new home."
You slowly walked towards the older boy out of the two and asked if he needed any help caring anything while keeping your head down avoiding eye contact. "I'm sorry but can you repeat that- I didn't hear what you said" blush starts to creep up on your face, hearing his voice brought butterflies to your stomach.
You raise your head facing him and repeat yourself once again quickly making eye contact with him before averting it.
He laughs at your shyness and picks up a couple of things checking if they were heavy before handing you the two lighter bags out of them all before carrying the rest himself. You both walk side by side following everyone as Tsireya led the group to their marui. "So..What's your name? I'm Neteyam '' he smiles at the short Metkayina girl.
You think to yourself deciding whether you want to tell him your name or not. You look at him as he smiles at you. ".....My name is (y/n).." you mumble out but make sure it's loud enough for him to hear so you wouldn't have to repeat yourself like earlier. 'That was so embarrassing'
"(y/n*)?" Neteyam repeats back to you but pronounces it wrong. "No, it's (y/n)."
"(y/n*)?" He once again pronounces it wrong and butchers it even more. You don't have the guts to correct him so you just awkwardly nod your head and accept that you were gonna be called the wrong name from now on.
Finally everyone reached the marui, You walked in and set the bags you were carrying down against the wall and jumped knocking into Neteyam startled  as you heard a loud thud behind you.
"I apologize Neteyam-" "Are you alright?!" You spoke at the same time. You both pause making eye contact before he speaks up again. "Are you alright?" "Yes I'm okay..I'm so sorry for knocking into you I didn't mean too"
You  turn around to find out it was just Neytiri she had dropped the mat that she was holding onto the floor.
After helping the Sully family get all their things, you walk out and meet Tsireya and Aonung.
"We will be back here later to take you guys in the water, In the meantime if you guys need any help let us know!" Tsireya said to the family with a wave. "We will, thank you" Jake replied with a smile on his face.
You three began to walk away letting the family get settled in their new home, This is definitely a big change for them.
But as you walk away you stop and give one last look to the family, eyes meeting another pair of eyes that caused you to blush and turn back around quickly jogging to reach Tisreya and Aonung.
Maybe interacting with new people wasn't so bad after all....

My Heart Never Knows
Jake Sully x Neytiri x Fem!Reader
—-
a/n: apologies that this chapter is kinda short but i hope you all enjoy!!
warnings: none i think, but tell me if i missed anything!!
Chapter Two- Painted Faces
—-
The woven walkways bounce under your feet, and you look behind you to see Tuk bouncing up and down.
She laughs and jumps higher, before stopping to gasp at an ilu poking its head over the edge. It’s rider pulls back, and Neytiri shuffles her along. Names are still fuzzy, but you have a feeling you will get to know them well.
“Just up here!” Tsireya calls from in front of you, and you ignore the mothers pulling their children back.
When Jake steps inside, he nods and looks around.
“Yeah, this will work. This is great,” he proclaims, but the rest of his family doesn’t look convinced. You paint a pleasant smile on your face, feeling uncomfortable in the face of all this animosity.
It is clear they do not want to to be here, and your theory is only proven when Neytiri drops the rug she is carrying with a loud sigh.
Tsireya continues talking to one of the brothers, Lo’ak, you think, while you turn towards Jake and Neytiri. You hope you look amenable, like the perfect hostess.
“Do you need any help?” you ask, and Neytiri looks you up and down before suddenly turning away.
“Thank you, Y/N, but I think we’ll be okay.” She busies herself with unpacking, and you feel your stomach twist at the sound of your name in her mouth.
Jake nods and thanks you as well, and that same feeling arises in your stomach when he says your name. You ignore it. You are not foolish, and you will not put your heart in someone else’s hands. You will not get hurt.
—-
“I don’t think they want to be here,” you muse as Ronal scowls.
“They should not,” she hisses, and you almost think she will stomp her foot onto the floor like a child.
“Please,” Tonowari sighs, and his tone makes your mouth shut quickly. “We must be pleasant, at the least. Yes?”
Ronal barely hides her glare, but she nods regardless.
Tonowari sighs, before placing his hands in front of him, folding them on the table.
“Y/N, I think it would be a good idea if you were to be friendly with them.”
“No!” Ronal exclaims, turning towards Tonowari with remnants of the fruit she was cutting on her hands. “No, no. I will not allow those strangers to taint my sweet sister.”
“Taint me?” you ask, but Ronal only closes her mouth.
“I’m sorry,” she says through gritted teeth. “I just do not think it is a good idea.”
Tonowari looks at you, confused, but you only shrug in response. Yes, you admit, they are strangers. You do not know them, and you do not have any desire to learn.
But, it would be nice to have someone close to them. You doubt they will open up to Tonowari, and Ronal scowls at them every second. You are the best option.
No matter what Jake Sully says, war does not die that easily. If the war comes your way, it would be good to have assurances that Toruk Macto will fight alongside the Metkayina.
Privately, you had come to the conclusion it was best to stay away from the Sully family. Since meeting them, you had spent the day helping Ronal, quietly contemplating. You do not know exactly what you feel for Toruk Macto and his wife, but you know it will not end good. It is best to stuff this fire out now, you decide, before it can grow and burn you down.
But you trust Tonowari with your life, and Ronal has always been protective and easily blinded by her emotions. You dismiss her. If he truly wants you to do it, you will.
“If you think it is best, Tonowari.”
“I do.”
Ronal hisses, and you reach towards her. She lets you after a moment, and you wrap your arms around her. She breathes in for a second, trying to calm herself like the way your mother always advised her to. You feel her breathe beneath you, until she finally seems to regain some sense of something.
“You are just so dear to me,” she murmurs into your hair. “I cannot bear to lose you.”
“You won’t lose me, Ronal. I promise,”
—-
The next morning, you rise late.
Your mauri was small, close to Ronal and Tonowari’s. It was sparsely decorated- you always felt like it was a transitional place. Just somewhere you happened to live. Not a home.
The sun is already high in the sky by the time you find the strength to face the day, instead of ignoring it. The prospect of spending the day with Jake and Neytiri was… daunting, to say the least. You’re nervous, and you wear that shame on your sleeve.
Tsireya comes after you finish getting ready, Ao’nung and Roxto trailing behind her, clearly not happy. Tsireya is all smiles as you greet her, and she kicks the boys out to sit you down.
“Tsireya?” you ask as she pushes you to the floor, sitting in front of you, smile about to crawl off of her face.
“I met a boy.”
She is straight to the point, confident, but you can tell by the shake of her hands how daunting this prospect is to her. You smile, grab her shaking hands in your own.
“I’m so happy for you, ‘reya,” you say as she tucks her chin into her chest and blushes. “Are you going to tell me who it is..?”
“Promise not to tell anyone.” When you nod, she sucks in a breath. “Lo’ak. One of the forest people. He said ‘hey’ to me when they first arrived and, oh, Aunt Y/N…”
“I wasn’t going to say anything… but I saw him looking at you as well.” She gasps, smile widening, before taking a deep breath and collecting herself.
“No, no. I won’t be a blushing mess around him, I’ve decided. I will be calm, like the sea on a sunny day.”
“I think he is a nice boy. And I think he likes you. You do anything, ‘reya, and he will fall at your feet.”
—-
When Tsireya drags you out of your mauri, she is all smiles again, although this time more contained. You are content to watch her navigate these uncertain waters, find herself, even if she may end up in someone else’s arms. Sometimes you do find yourself in someone else, you have realized.
Ao’nung greets you, nodding his head, and you smile and run your hand over his head. You silently pray to Eywa that he will not tease the forest children like you think he will. Roxto nods to you, and the four of you set off to the Sully mauri.

What the Sully Boys do when they find you crying
Tumblr media
Neteyam, Lo’ak, Jake,
⚠️WARNING⚠️: crying, talks of injury
Pleas enjoy this garbage
….
Neteyam: Distraction
You’re along on the shoreline, crouched in the waves and poking at the sand. Fat tears are rolling down your cheeks as you repeatedly stab your finger into the soft wet sediment. Neteyam has been looking for you for about an hour now. You’d disappeared after dinner, visibly upset and oddly quiet. He was unfamiliar with the island still. He did not know the rocky alcoves or tide pools like he knew the forest. It’s no wonder you’d sought out solitude here. The lay of the land provided perfect little nooks and crannies to hide oneself and find some peace and quiet.
Neteyam does not speak as he approaches; making sure his footsteps are extra loud so as not to startle you. You hardly glance at him. He squat next to you and places a firm hand on the small of your back. He watches your finger jab and carve at the sand for a time. He doesn’t know what’s gotten under your skin and why you don’t want to tell him but he will wait. His fingers begin to trail up your spine.
The smells of salt and fish permeate the air. The waves lap haphazardly in their lazy dance against the shore. Wind is rustling through the fronds and trees. In the distance an ilu whistles to its rider.
“Do you want to go for a swim with me?” He finally looks at your, surveys you year stained face. “I’ve been wanting to practice diving and you’re better than me.”
You nod and straighten up. At least in the ocean he won’t see your tears. Neteyam loops his fingers through yours and begins to stomp through the oncoming waves. You squeeze his warm palm, feeling the scrape of his hard earned callouses.
Neteyam hasn’t known you for too long. Only just meeting you when his family arrived at the Metkayina’s doorstep. He’d caught your eager eyes studying him through the crowd of people gathering on the beach.
You lingered on the azure tint of his skin and the set of his eyes. While you’d known of the Na’vi you’d never met anyone from the jungles and forests. When it came time to teach the foreigners the way of water, you’d diligently set to helping Tsiyera.
The ocean rose up over your knees, salty water licking at your thighs. You school your lungs into sucking oxygen and your body dips forward. Neteyam dives in after you, limbs still a little unsure of the proper stroke. The sandy seabed brushes along your belly as you peel away from the shoreline. The sky is darkening but you can still get in a few dives.
Neteyam trails along by your side, struggling to match your speed. You peer over your shoulder and analyze his technique. You edge closer to him. Fingers and forearms touch occasionally.
You’d always thought he was boyishly cute but recently, his maturity has shown through. He’s more compassionate than you’d have thought and his dedication as a good friend has made you want him to mean something more.
Whether or not he feels the same way is unclear. But he doesn’t seem to mind being alone with. He did seek you out. Minutes ago he’d had his hand on your skin and you could still feel it’s phantom presence.
You’re still bothered. Wanting to cry, still crying. He can see in your downturned expression that you’re shaken. He shifts closer as subtly as he can manage. You slow down as a school of brightly scaled fish rush by. Neteyam’s knuckles brush against yours. He points to the surface. His face looking a little purple. He needs a breath.
The ascent is quick and before long your heads break the waves. Neteyam soaks up the oxygen and his skin returns to its normal shade of deep blue.
“Can I ask why you’re upset?” His arms swing through the water as he treads.
“Just… a little trouble at home. Don’t really wanna talk about it.”
Neteyam tilts his head kindly and nods. His hand catches yours mid tread and he yanks you closer. His arms wrap around you as you both sink. He nuzzled his nose into your cheek and plants a small kiss along the underlying bone.
When you lets you he’s kicking back to the surface so he can prepare for another dive.
“What was that supposed to mean?” You ask him.
“Haven’t you figured out already that I like you?”
“Oh-“ the thought was only a hope and a wish, nothing more than a fleeting longing. But you no longer feel like crying and Neteyam is already disappearing beneath the waves again.
Tumblr media
Lo’ak: Confrontation
Your feet dip up and down with the roll of the water as your ilu coasts along the reef. You watch the stars glimmer in the sky. Their light so faint next to the reflection of Jupiter. The wind nips at you skin, skewing your angry tears all across the bridge of your nose and cheeks.
Tsiyera has been impeccably kind to you since you arrived. Helping you out with diving and swimming and other practices around the clan. The others, Aonung and Rotxo and even some of Tsiyera’s close friends, have been doing all they can to chase you out.
Your parents had been killed in the war with the humans. Trampled by the merciless machines and ruthless bastards. Neytiri had grown up alongside your mother, and was kind enough to assist Mo’at in raising you.
You and Lo’ak weren’t exactly best buds growing up. You fought all the time and his attitude always drove you crazy. But you’d become fond of each other in recent years. He talked your ear off the whole way to the Metkayina islands, venting all of his frustrations about his family and the move.
You still bickered on occasion and Lo’ak often said stupid things he didn’t mean. But now he’s made the effort to actually apologize. It’s because he likes you, or so Neteyam says.
The sound of an ilu breaking the surface a feet feet behind you disrupts your brooding. You smear away the tears and straighten up. When you turn to meet the intruder, Lo’ak beams.
“Thought I’d never find you! We’re just about to eat, you should come joi-have you been crying?” Lo’ak’s head tilts to the side as he glances over your face.
No sense in hiding it. Better to change the subject. So you nod, “Let’s go get dinner.”
“Wait,” Lo’ak scoots forward. You adjust the direction you ilu faces and dive. “Wait!”
Lo’ak, ungracefully, dips beneath the waves and trails along behind you. His ilu is faster and he gains ground quicker than you can run. His hand snags your elbow and jerks you upwards. Both ilus tilt to the sky and breach.
When you catch a breath you’re ready to chew him out. But the concern etched in his expression holds your tongue. He’s still clutching your elbow. “Why are you crying?”
“It’s nothing, Lo’ak. I swear.”
“If you’re out by yourself, crying, it can’t just be nothing.”
There’s something in his eyes that makes you wonder if Neteyam is right. Lo’ak brings you closer, grabbing onto your other arm. “You can’t tell me anything. I know I’m an ass sometimes but I don’t ever want you to be upset like this.”
“Just Aonung and his friends. Please don’t do anything stupid.”
“Someone has to stop them.”
“Just— won’t you stay with me for a while?”
Lo’ak freezes up. He wants to hear you ask again and if the situation were different he would tease you. But there are still tears threatening to spill down your sweet face. Killing the chief’s son can wait.
Your ilu squeals unhappily as Lo’ak pulls you closer. His arms wind around your shoulders and his forehead meets yours. His bright amber irises flicker left and right as he watches your reaction.
You reach for him, feeling the lean muscle of his torso under your arms as you leave his forehead and rest against his cheek. You can smell the salt in his hair from the hours in the water. The roughness of his palms against your back. His rapid heartbeat faint between the skins of your chests.
“Next time come to me first.” He whispers, squeezing your shoulders and pulling away. “This way justice can be dealt faster. Now let’s go before mom gets mad.”
Tumblr media
Jake:
When you and Neytiri are assigned the job of educating Jake Sulley about the Na’vi, you aren’t happy. This dreamwalker is nothing but an imbecile that Neytiri should have shot when she found him.
But over the weeks of his company, you find the charm in his ruggedness. Jake is rough around the edges. It’s pretty obvious. But he likes to please. For him, learning your ways isn’t a mission anymore. It’s his purpose.
Not because he wants to see your people moved. But because he wants to see you happy. He watches your face light up whenever he gets something right. The smile that spreads across your face brings him some clarity.
Once he realizes he’s competing smitten, he decides he can’t hide it anymore. He needs to tell the clan about what’s coming.
You’re heartbroken to say the least. He lied to you. He’d been lying to you for months. The image of your eyes glazing over with tears is burned into the synapses of his brain. It nearly kills him when you turn away and run.
It’s one disaster after another. He’s kicked out and tied up. The home tree is burned. The people perish. And then it’s all over. He defeats the unites the clans and defeats the sky people. But it all happens so fast.
Your mind whirs. You crawl along the thick vines the link the floating mountains. Seeking a little refuge and peace of mind. An ikran screeches in the distance. You slip into the trees. The ikran call is louder, closer. There’s the familiar WHOOSH of strong wings beating against the air. Jake’s echoes through the foliage. The ikran lands on the vines, squawking and squealing as Jake dismounts.
You hardly been able to speak to Jake since the war. You’re just so jarred with everything and you don’t know what to do. You sought solitude through hunting, giving to your people whatever you brought back. Your ikran had been killed in the war, shot out of the sky.
You remember the fall. The winding swallowing you up as you careened towards the jungle. Another hunter had snagged you. The force of the catch dislocating your shoulders when the talons of the ikran closed around your arms. The pain felt through the bond still resonated in your nerves. You were forced out of the fight.
Looking at Jake now, as he turns to the thicket you’re hiding in, makes the memories come back. The tears come without warning. Choking your throat and stinging your skin.
Jake knows right where you are. He hears the sniffling and choking. His hearts breaks a little more. This is his fault. He’s turned your life upside down and he doesn’t know if he can ever make it right.
“Please, come out.” Jake finds a lump in his throat. “I—“
Can’t go on without you.
Can’t breathe without out you.
You emerge from the bushes, helplessly restraining tears. Jake takes you in his arms, squeezing you so tight.
“Come for a ride with me?” He knows now is not the time to try and smooth things over. You’re too hurt and he doesn’t want to dig. “Just for a bit.”
You bury your face in the crook of his neck. His voice rumbles against your cheek. You nod and allow him to pull you towards the ikran.
The ride is quiet, you sit behind him and rest on his shoulder. His heartbeat thunders in your ear, calming your own and the tears stop all on their own.

There was no specification so I hope me taking creative liberty with this was okay!
: ̗̀➛ “I hate you.” “Love you too.”
word count and approx. reading time: 2.5k words, 8 minutes?
pairings: ao’nung x fem! omaticayan! reader
notes: - reader is neteyam’s twin sister - when someone says something in english it’ll be in italics but not all italic dialogue is english it may just be for emphasising the word - I’m pretty sure the na’vi have their own curse words maybe - I tried to make it seem like you (the reader) is talking to..well..an audience, in the beginning. but i realised thats also you. so to seperate it, the indented text at the start is you talking to yourself.
warnings: kissing, literally making out, teasing, a lot of cussing at the start, neteyam being a protective brother (not a warning ik)

Meeting someone that is so stupidly annoying, so much that you want to kill them on the inside, is common. Its alright. No biggie. Happens to all of us.
But if the same person makes you feel all giddy inside with their stupid smile and their stupid face and their stupid hands on your shoulder and their stupid mouth, so giddy that you want to shut them up by kissing them, then you’re gonna wanna sit down for this, cause it happened to me, too.
“Ao’nung, I swear on Eywa if you don’t actually help me with this right now I will pull out your hair and send my ikran after you, you piece of shit!” you practically shriek at him after being stranded by the ilu.
It had been a month since you and your family first landed in Awa’atlu and started training with the metkayina.
After mastering your breathing, the next step of training consisted of the metkayina helping you and your siblings learn how to ride the creatures, but Ao’nung was being uncooperative as usual.
He didn’t adjust any part of your riding position, insisting that you were going to be fine and that your posture was already “perfect.”, to which you gave him a suspicious glare. And stupidly, you trsusted him. That ended up with you being stranded in the middle of the blue ocean, being practically blown away by the water, ilu leaving you in the dust.
He laughed, his ilu gliding across the water with him on its back, going in your direction. “That was hilarious. You didn’t actually believe me when I said you were going to be fine, did you?” he chuckled, eyes silently judging your messed up and sopping wet hair.
You glared at him, exhaling deeply. “You’re such an annoying bitch, you know that?” you mumbled under your breath, saying the word in english so he wouldn’t understand. He had been messing with you for weeks now, always laughing at you if you’d messed something up and never actually being helpful.
As you swam forward, water level at your shoulders, to get onto the back of his ilu, he extended his hand, offering to help you up. Hesitantly, you took it. Once your hand near his, he reached forward and grabbed your forearm, pulling you up and leaning down into your face.
“You know, for such a pretty face you have such a foul mouth.” he muttered with his deep voice, amused eyes searching your face for a reaction. He really didn’t know exactly what the word meant, but he definitely had a guess.
You were shocked, your hand held high up in the air. He was so strong that his grip on your wrist lifted up the rest of your body, yet it didn’t hurt you at all. Your waist was still submerged in the water,
Your eyes narrowed into slits, he thought he could get the best of you? Even though you were suspended in midair you still came up with a comeback. “Wish I could say the same.” you whispered in mock pity, bottom lip jutting out in a small pout.
He rolled his eyes with an entertained smirk, lowering you back in the water. “Please, you wish you had my beautiful face.” he said as you mounted the back of his ilu, sitting directly behind him. You were about to respond with another insult when the ilu suddenly dove under the water, and quickly you shut your mouth and took a deep breath in so you wouldn’t pass out.
It was all so sudden that you didn’t even realise what you just did; wrapped your arms around his abdomen, clutching it for dear life to avoid being thrown off the ilu for a second time. Once you came to your senses, however, you couldn’t bring yourself to pull away.
Partly because you were just shocked, but also because you could feel his abs. Damn. He certainly was well built for his age, you thought to yourself before snapping out of your momentary daze. You quickly repositioned your hands to hold his shoulders instead, wanting to slap yourself in the face for the thought you just had.
Sure, you had had a few...maybe romantic thoughts about Ao'nung, especially the first time you two met. He stalked up through the crowd with such confidence and assurance in himself that he caught your attention immediately, but your little love at first sight moment was quickly crushed when he and his friend Rotxo started making fun of your brother's tails, right in front of you.
He was strong, tall, confident, and the Olo'eyktan's eldest son. The whole package. Who wouldn’t like a guy like that? For you, it was much easier to resist, because he was a complete and total asshole to you and your family.
You were pretty sure he had the biggest, stupidest grin on his face right then and there because you knew that he knew that you could feel his muscles. He moved his left arm, placing a hand behind your thigh to secure your position on the ilu as he made a sharp turn around a rock in the water. You were going to have a seizure at this point.
Being Neteyam’s younger twin sister had its perks and definitely its downfalls; your older brother refusing to let you date anyone and side eyeing the hell out of any guy that dared to approach you.
“Hey, it’s not like you’re going to mate with any of them now! You have the rest of your life for that!” he always said in defense whenever you would get mad at him for scaring a little crush away.
Granted, he was definitely right. Little kid love wouldn’t have suited you and you probably would have broken up with your boyfriend in a week because you were bored. But then at least you would have gotten used to male attention that wasn’t your family. Well, except for that one time, but that was so long ago you had already forgotten the feeling.
You felt blood rush to your cheeks at his touch, stomach doing backflips. You took a hand off his shoulder to pinch his on your thigh, a silent warning since you couldn’t speak underwater, causing his hand to jut away and return to holding the rein at the front of the ilu.
It wasn’t like this was his first time touching you, he’d placed his hand on your shoulder and flickered your forehead, sure. But this time felt different. It was more gentle. More caring. But you hated him. And he hated you. At least that's what you thought.
Your mind wandered to when you were lying in a shallow pool of water with Kiri, chatting away about how Awa'atlu had been for you both so far. "So, how's your little crush?" she smirked, twisting and playing with one of her little braids dangling over her face.
"Crush? I don't have a crush, Kiri." you rolled your eyes. "Are you kidding me??? What about that douchebag Ao'nung?" she stopped playing with her braid, eyes widened. She wasn't mocking you, she actually thought you had a crush on him.
"Ew. Barf. Why would I ever like him? I have taste, sister." you scoffed, pretending that you weren't considering it inside your head. He infuriated you, made you to want to slap the stupid cheshire grin that was constantly on his face.
But when he did keep his mouth shut, you couldn't help but admire his strength. And his better than average face. "I'm too good for him." you said, snapping out of your little daze thinking about him. Kiri raised her eyebrows in amusement, but you didn't notice.

At the end of the day, your family and Tonowari’s gathered for dinner, having a friendly chat about how things have been going lately. Your mother was doing well in Tsahìk training with Ronal, and your father had mastered riding a skimwing. Your ilu training was taken over by Tsireya who was MUCH more helpful than Ao’nung was, and everyone had made good progress.
But the real elephant in the room? Lo’ak and Tsireya sitting in front of each other, always making shy eye contact as they ate, her giggling sometimes when she saw his ears turn purple.
You felt sick to your stomach seeing the interaction. Ronal and your dad didn’t seem to notice, but Tonowari and your mom definitely did. Neytiri hid her smirk by continuing to eat, and Tonowari had a big smile on his face finding that his daughter had found someone (Toruk Makto’s second eldest son, no less!)
Ao’nung wasn’t there to witness this, cause apparently his dad sent him off to do some errands and he was running late. You shared a strained look with your sister Kiri, who made a fake throwing up expression. Neteyam and Tuk honestly couldn’t care less.
When Ao’nung finally arrived, he took the empty seat on Neteyam’s right; in front of you, even though there were 2 other vacant mats he could have sat on. Kiri broke the half amused half disgusted and half oblivious silence, with a “Lo’ak, please stop staring at Tsireya like that I’m literally about to projectile vomit all over the floor.”
“Kiri, shut up!” he groaned, avoiding Tsireya’s gaze in embarrassment. “Yeah, it’s getting weird and I’m losing my appetite.” you commented, stating the truth but teasing your brother at the same time. By this point, both pairs of parents + Tuk decided to ignore you guys' conversation and talked about their own things.
“You’re just jealous you never had anyone that liked you!” Lo’ak accused you, you gasping in fake hurt. “Well that’s not true.” Kiri said, shoving her mouth with more food. Your eyes widened, your head turned to look to your right, directly at your sister. Neteyam looked up at this.
“Oh– right– uhm forget I said anything.” she played it off, temporarily forgetting that you both kept that a secret from your brothers. “Hey no nonononono, I wanna hear more about this guy!” Lo’ak said, eyes flickering between you and Kiri. Ao’nung and Neteyam were also listening intently.
“I don’t think that’s really necessary.” you said nervously, looking at Neteyam whose eyes narrowed. “No. You will tell me.” your older brother spoke, as you gave him a pleading look. “You know you have to tell him sooner or later.” Kiri rolled her eyes as you slapped her arm.
“Okay! Fine!” you sighed, an exasperated expression on your face. “It was Viawli! He confessed to me with some flowers and then we dated for a while. Behind Neteyam’s back.” you finished, burying your hands in your face.
“Honestly you should’ve listened to how annoying she was when they dated. Oh Kiri he’s so sweet he got me flowers- Oh Kiri, he's so funny, Kiri he’s so handsom–” you slap her own hand around her mouth to stop her from talking, your entire face purple at this point. Lo’ak howled with laughter as Neteyam continued eating, expressionless, his annoyance and protective urge probably bubbling up and waiting to explode once your both were out of sight from your parents.
Your eyes met with Ao’nungs, he seemed very shocked at this news, but you decided to ignore it for now. You had more important things to deal with; Neteyam’s wrath.
Tumblr media
After receiving a painful earful from your brother, you opted for a little walk along the beach, enjoying how the ocean looked after eclipse. The sand underneath your feet comforted you, and you liked kicking some of it into water just for fun. As you were doing so, you noticed someone who was waist deep into the water. Strange, you thought. Who would be swimming in the cold water at this hour??
You decided to get closer, and then you noticed the bun. It was Ao’nung. You waded in the water, the ripples from your movement alerting him that someone was near. He turned in your direction, making eye contact with you.
You wanted to say something to mock him, but your resolve dissipated once you saw the look on his face. He looked like he had been deep in thought, something you’d never seen before. All you could do was wave hi. He nodded his head a little, indicating it was okay for you to be there.
You waddled through the cold water, standing next to him. He continued staring into the horizon, and you pursed your lips in silence. This was kinda awkward, but you also didn’t want to ruin the moment. You two were so close, if you moved your left arm just a little you could hold his hand.
Wait what? No! You weren’t supposed to be having these sorts of thoughts around him, he was supposed to be annoying! But you couldn’t help yourself, you looked down to see your hand and his, dangling lonely next to each other. You resisted the urge to take his hand, instead marvelling at the size difference. His hand was huge compared to yours.
When you looked up, you noticed he was already staring right back at you. But instead of a smug smirk, he had a gentle smile on his face. A genuine smile. Your lips parted, confused as to what he was thinking.
“So,” he finally said. “This ‘Vialli’ guy. Did he treat you nicely?” he asked, stopping looking at you and instead turning his gaze back to the horizon. “It’s Viawli. Not what I was expecting you to ask but alright. I mean he treated me really well when we dated–” you stopped suddenly, noticing how his ears twitched in annoyance when you said “we dated”.
Holy shit. Was he….jealous????? Your heart raced at this realisation, realising maybe you weren’t hallucinating earlier today and maybe he actually was touching you with care. You decided to test your theory, with a small grin on your face.
“He brought me tons of flowers, he was so sweet, he always complimented me and he always took me out on dates.” you pretended to gush about him, even though you’d already forgotten entirely what your little dates were like.
“He was super good looking, I was so happy that I scored practically the most handsome guy in the clan–” you were interrupted when Ao’nung pulled you by your chin into a heavy kiss. Your eyes widened in shock, before you closed them and melted into the kiss as well.
Your teasing didn’t quite yield the results you expected, but it got you something even better. You wrapped your arms around his neck and his hands snaked around your waist to pull you even deeper into the kiss.
The entire time your brain was just screaming at you, telling you to pull away. That it was wrong. He was supposed to be annoying. But your heart urged you, begged you to not let go of him.
You both pulled away at the same time for air, and you were stunned at what just happened. You just made out. With Ao’nung. And you enjoyed it. The world was truly going to end.
He placed his finger under your chin once more, turning up your head so you’d look at him. He searched your eyes, your face, searching for any sign that you reciprocate his feelings. “I,” he hesitated, “I see you, Y/n.” he whispered.
You didn’t say anything for a while, just looking at him, and that made him concerned. He was about to back away when you finally placed your hand on his cheek gently. “Ao’nung. I see you.”
His smile grew wide, and he leaned in. You thought he was about to kiss you again, but instead he put his mouth near your ear and mumbled, "I can treat you so much better than that skxawng ever could.", the huskiness of his voice making your knees buckle.
Tumblr media
“You know you look ethereal in the night, right?” he said, as you both sat down on the sand with legs outstretched, hands holding. “Oh shut up, will you? It’s going to get weird.” you huff, feeling slightly embarrassed that you went from shouting at him and calling him a bitch to kissing him and holding hands in just one day.
“It’s not weird. I don’t feel like anything’s weird.” he smirks, a glint of mischievousness in his eyes, “Why? Do I make you feel weird?”
You pause, before taking your hand away from his and pinching them together. “I’m this close to throwing sand in your face.” you deadpan.
He squints, looking at your fingers. “They’re touching–” he realises what that means and he takes off running, you following closely behind him with a handful of sand.
Eventually you catch up to him, being faster since you were much more agile than him on land. You tackle him from behind, pushing him down as he yelps. At this point you no longer have any more sand in your hands and you can’t bring yourself to take any, cause you’re too busy laughing and heaving.
You let him go and sit cross legged in front of him, smiling as he pulls himself up, panting for air. “I,” he breathes out, “I hate you so much–” You snicker, amused by how tired he is and place your hands on your cheeks. “Love you too, Ao.”

I laughed as i flew over the waters on my tsurak, Tsireya's hands wrapped around my waist while she screamed in my ears when I dived in without her knowing, going pinpoint into the water, i hooked my hand under her thigh, fingers grazing her inner thigh, holding her close, speeding ahead, i commanded to go deeper into the sea, the sea life swirling around us, fishes and ilus staring at us, sometimes purposely disturbing a school of fishes myself, finally after a lot of exploring, she tapped my shoulder signaling me to go up, i nodded, slowly rising up to the surface, she settled her chin in the gap of my neck and shoulder, i turned my head about to give her a peck when my twin brother's voice called out loudly to my irritation "Heyyy, wait for us! You having a tsurak doesn't mean everyone does!" I rolled my eyes and grunted when they finally caught up to us, Ao'nung glared at me from behind Neteyam.
they were on Neteyam's ilu, it was supposed to be a double date but it was turning out more annoying than i expected "you know, maybe if you were fast enough we wouldn't have to wait for you, brother" Tsireya hit me on my forearm, i looked at her huffing and shrugged "what? I'm just telling th-" but before I could finish my sentence Neteyam splashed me with the help of his ilu, i gasped "you Skxwang, I'm going to kill you for real, this time" he took off, Ao'nung nearly fell into the water and i chased them, i backed up to them in an instance while Tsireya was giggling at our idiocy. Soon catching up to them we all got into splash fighting, whoever splashes someone the most wins but as the game went on and no one was ready to back down, getting tired and wanting to spend some alone time together me and Tsireya called our quits, bidding a short goodbye and promising to meet at our spot at eclipse we went on our ways.
»»————- ⚜ ————-««
We laid down on the soft grass, the spot we found in the more forest part of awa'atlu but still close to the sea, the perfect place for us to rest and spend time together, the breeze from the sea cooling the area, the sun providing the perfect amount of sunlight, there were rocks surrounding us, shielding us from onlookers and gave us enough shade, Tsireya sighed in my neck, eyes closed with a small smile playing on her lips, i shifted a strand of her hair behind her ear, the soft membrane shell of it flickering at my touch, I chuckled internally, we've been together now for almost three years now, Tonowari was more than shocked at the new while Ronal almost passed out, but they accepted us eventually, It was a shocker when neteyam and ao'nung told them the truth as well but they accepted us, why not one more? Now we all lived under the same mauri, all six of us together under one roof, like a loving family, atlast.
It's been 6 years since we came here, and almost 5 years since I had my tsurak, thanks to Ao'nung, tonowari took me and Neteyam under his wing, teaching me how to ride y/ts/n while training Neteyam for his iknimaya, even tho I did technically pass mine, i still chose to wait for my spiritual passing, that I'll go through with my twin and Ao'nung. during the period of these 5 years, the whole of metkayina thought I'd end up with Ao'nung while Neteyam with Tsireya but something total opposite happened, i fell for Tsireya first then Neteyam confirmed my suspicions about Ao'nung and him, soon, after 2 and half years of dropping hints and small advances, we confessed, more like we blurted out everything and the metkayina siblings just stared at us confused, but to everyone's surprise it was Ao'nung who made the first move, kissing Neteyam right in front of us, i didn't leave my chance either capturing Tsireya's lips right then and there.
Now we're here, laying on the soft patch of grass, my hand lazily roaming on her back and waist, the sunset spreading out shades of pinks and purples, these were the moments that made me glad we left that prison, the eclipse was nearing and we had to be present for the dinner this time because I don't want Ronal biting my ears off again, i shook Tsireya lightly, kissing all over her face while she smiled waking up finally "ohh c'mon, do we have to leave right now?" Her voice groggy from the slumber, i pulled her to sit up with me, she leaned her head on my shoulder, mumbling something i didn't catch, i rolled my eyes "wake up sleepyhead, i don't want sa'nu to be mad at me again for being late" picking her up enough to let her stand, she yawned, i called out to y/ts/n, He happily swam towards us, i took tsireya's hand guiding her to him, taking our seats she wrapped her arms around my waist, pressing her cheek to my back while i flew above the water so it doesn't disturb her, getting to the shore Neteyam and ao'nung already there, but to my distaste i caught them kissing, landing near them as their attention went to us, i just gave them a gagged reaction while ao'nung gave me the biggest eye roll he could muster on Pandora, reaching them, tsireya by my side ao'nung spoke "you act like you don't do this with my own sister" you grimaced at him "well atleast- you know what? Leave it, it's weird enough to see my twin kiss you" you shook your head letting out an exhale, neteyam having enough of this conversation pulled us all towards our kelku while me and ao'nung bicker about it, tsireya just ignored us both, she has listened to this tale well over a thousand times, so she knows not to get in between.
As we got to our mauri, me and ao'nung both fell silent in seconds when we saw Ronal, none of us wanting an ear full before dinner. Quickly washing up and freshening, we sat down in a circle together, tonowari sat directly opposite to Ronal, me on his right and ao'nung on his left, our mates on our side then Ronal, The roasted fish made by her almost melting on my tongue as I breathed out with mouth stuffed with it "This is so good, sa'nok" she just smiled at me, reaching over to pat my cheek "you say that every time, ite" we all laughed digging in, talking about our day, though most of mine and tsireya's was spent together, ao'nung, with no surprise, had too much to say, apparently he and neteyam went hunting for a date, and caught to much to handle, ended up giving most of the kill to the communal space, tonowari talked about the new warriors that have joined in now, but the subject was changed when ronal asked "when do you think the iknimaya should be held, wari?" All eyes fell onto him, he thought for a minute before answering "it is time they pass through it, in a month would be reasonable" he looked back at neteyam and ao'nung, both of them had a little fear plastered over their faces, I chuckled internally at their reaction but it didn't go unnoticed as ronal asked me "why are you so happy, huh? You only have a tsurak, the rest is still to be passed" I just looked at her sheepishly, not wanting to talk about this further I changed the topic again "ma'sempul, can I join you and others for the hunt tomorrow? I still want to practice hunting with y/ts/n" he smiled agreeing right away, telling me what I should or shouldn't take with me, in the end the dinner was finished with me and ao'nung fighting again but it was no surprise.

I rode besides tonowari and the other hunters as we made our way to the deep waters for today's hunt, these were the new warriors in training so I had some experience to be a level above them or at least be equal to them, I mastered riding my tsurak many moons ago, now it was becoming a second nature to me, I still flew with my ikran, when the night gets too suffocating a nice flight around awa'atlu is the only thing I need, but y/ts/n was becoming my day to day ride so it was easier to be with him, plus he has the most beautiful saddle and accessories thanks to my gorgeous soon-to-be mate, she hand-made many of the things that are now attached to my tsurak, the intricate details, beading, the weaving patterns, all the time and effort she put into them to make them perfect for me, these were the things I could never thank her enough for, only shower her with my love even more.
We all hunt for hours, tonowari giving us useful tips now and then for better catching, by the end of the hunt my net was full to the brim and so did many others, passing my net to another warrior who was carrying the kills, we started our journey back to the shore, by the time we were halfway there the sun was scalding on our skins, constantly diving into the water to keep our bodies cool, at last we reached the golden shores of metkayina, the only thing on my mind was to take a portion of my hunt back to our mauri and ask ma'sa'nok to prepare it for me, maybe I'll take neteyam with me to convince her even more but my thoughts came to a stop as we landed down, there was a commotion swirling in front of us, i looked at tonowari, he gave the same confused look back, we both made our way towards to center to see what was happening but the scene in front of me stopped me in my tracks altogether.
My mind went blank when i saw Jake, neytiri and their children standing on the golden sands of Awa'atlu, my eyes immediately darted through the crowd to find the face similar to mine but he was looking at me with a same horrified expression, meeting each other in the middle still away from the family we once called ours, he had the same fear evident in his eyes, they still haven't seen us yet but it won't be long before they do, he gripped my arm as he spoke in a hushed voice "what are they doing here?!" I licked my dry lips before speaking "i don't know but if we want to find out…." I looked at tonowari's side and then back at neteyam, he nodded and i gathered every ounce of courage that was left in me but i was again the same little girl who was desperate for her family's love and affection, the same girl who was shoved ruthlessly aside with her twin, rage coursed through my veins and with a nod to him, we walked to tonowari's side ready to face our former family yet again.

The area went silent as you and your twin stood besides the leaders of the clan, the omaticayan family astonished to see their lost twins in such a unexpected place, your face was devoid of expressions, neytiri's heart rejoiced and panged seeing your faces but you held no warmth towards her, Jake felt helpless all over again, deteriorated even. Ronal circled them, throwing insults with great displeasure at the group but not a flicker of sympathy rested in your heart, instead rage kindled in the pit of your stomach, itching brighter as the moments passed, they were here again to ruin everything you made for yourself, everything your brother made for himself, they are here to take it away from you, that's all you could think of, past memories flooded in your mind like a dam being opened at full force, your hands shook as a blanket of fear wafted over your body at the thought to losing everything you've earned now, to start anew, you didn't have that energy to do it all over again, you had a family now, who loves and cares for you, you are not alone this time.
Tonowari was concerned about how quiet you and neteyam were, he rested a hand on your shoulder pulling you back from the trench of old nightmares "are you alright, ma'parultsyip?" His voice soft and caring, he knew by the way you and him reacted to the situation, you knew who the people were but to what extent he didn't know, "we're fine sempul, you and sa'nok have a greater problem to deal with right now" neteyam said with as much steadiness as he could muster, and you nodded, tonowari leaned down cupping yours and neteyam's face as he said "there's no greater problem than ma'parultsyip being in distress, do you understand?" you smiled putting a hand over his where it rested on your cheek "it's fine, sempu, you can go, maybe we can talk about this later" he nodded smiling back and looked at Ronal who was still questioning the family, making his way to them to question them further, while you stared daggers at the family.
Lo'ak and kiri were taken aback at your presence, guilt traced their hearts, they never got a chance to apologize and now they didn't know if you'd even accept it, you stared at them with no remorse as they cower in your gaze, tuk was on cloud nine seeing her tsmuke and tsmukan after so many years, she never once forgot about you two, even in her small memory she remembered, all she wanted to do was jump in your arms and never leave but neytiri held her back as not to upset the Olo'eyktan and the tsahik, you and neteyam were glad to meet your little sister again, you both missed her more than anything, your eyes shifted to Jake, who was struggling to form words, seeing your interaction with tonowari, he knew his chapter in your lifes were over, at a loss of words in the end picking up tuk, when everything felt lost he spoke with an voice of desperation "please, i just want my family safe" you rolled your eyes but sighed looking at tuk, tonowari held a silent conversation with Ronal, looking at the two of you for approval as well, you nodded giving him the green flag to go ahead, you didn't stop to hear the rest as you made your way to tsireya, holding her hand in yours to calm your nerves, she turned to you smiling, rubbing her thumb over the back of your hand, she turned her head back looking at someone, staring at her line of sight, anger swirled in your stomach as you saw lo'ak checking her out but in an instance he looked away when you caught him, tsireya tightened her grip on your hand as she saw the small interaction, for her it was probably nothing but you were adamant to not let go of what you've made for yourself, not to the ones who ruined it for the first time to begin with.

As much i disliked the decision of tsireya and ao'nung training their kids, it was done and couldn't be taken back, for now me and neteyam helped the family move into the new mauri given to them, i didn't like the decision of them living with us in the first place but i wasn't as cruel as they were plus we'll see tuk again, i dropped the mats i was holding with a sickening thump they rolled open, i saw Jake cringed but I didn't say anything, turning back to walk out but i was stopped by a hand on my arm, i looked up to see neytiri with tears in her eyes as she started "ma'evi, how-" i didn't give her time to speak as i wrenched my arm out of her grip, scowling at her while i spoke "do not touch me, ever! Without my permission" the tension in the mauri could be pierced with a knife, she turned to neteyam beginning to speak but he didn't even stop to listen as he walked out, ao'nung followed him, worried what was going on, Jake frantically walked forward, eyes begging to talk to us but i beat him to it "No" I held up my hand to stop him "Enough! don't try to talk to us, anyone of you, you are welcome to stay here as long as you want but leave us alone, do not try to meddle in our lives, the consequences won't be good" with that i walk out to, tsireya following me out, i was angry, at myself, at them, at eywa for giving us this shitty life, at everyone, we met up with neteyam and ao'nung while the latter comforted the former, i sat down beside my twin, tsireya next to me, she held concern in her voice as she spoke "y/n, what was that? Why did you speak to them like that? Do you know them?" I didn't answer her right away, looking at neteyam for confirmation, if he wants to tell them the truth, he nodded once and i answered tsireya's questions "of course we know them *sigh* They were our family"
We sat with tonowari and Ronal, while she wrapped her arms around me, we told them everything as now there was no point in hiding, Ronal kissed my forehead and tonowari was livid, he felt ashamed to let the people who abused his children stay with them, i was in tears by the end we finished our story, tsireya rubbed my back, ao'nung held neteyam, tonowari comforting him as well, my mind felt numb while i snuggled closer in her embrace, Ronal ran her fingers through my hair, whispering against it "are you okay ma' yawnetu? I know it must be hard for both of you, if you want you can go live-" i shook my head in her neck "no sa'nok, you are our family now, you, sempul, ao'nung and tsireya is our family now, not them, not anyone else" neteyam nodded too, joining our hug, soon the other three got in too, we sat there in huge pile of tangled limbs and love, tonowari being the biggest was the foundation, Ronal at his side while me and tsireya cuddle to her left, neteyam and ao'nung beside tonowari cuddled together, that evening every tear was wiped and hearts were mended, everyone slept lighter than usual and i was happy the day ended this way, i pulled tsireya closer to me before i drifted to sleep myself.

I few above the clear waters of Awa'atlu, leaning back on my y/i/n, i stared at the bright sky, giving all the control over to him, the sun cascading sunlight down on the beautiful village, i needed a break from yesterday, away from everyone for a little while, enjoying my own presence and thoughts, it's been a few days since they came here, not me nor neteyam has talked to anyone of them neither did they try to seek us out, which was a blessing but we both knew it wasn't for long till we have to talk to them, i closed my eyes sighing at the feeling of the wind caressing my body, i flew in peace till the sun came down a little, not afternoon or evening just in between, sitting up i looked down to land near the shore, while looking out i saw the group tsireya and ao'nung have been training, deciding maybe i can take tsireya with me for a evening walk before we head back for dinner.
I jumped down disconnecting my queue as y/i/n flew away in seconds, everyone's eyes were on me because of my entrance but i didn't care as my eyes only trailed to tsireya's, she smiled instantly signaling me to come in and i did, diving beside her, i ignored everyone but her and ao'nung, turning to ao'nung as neteyam had a message for him "nung, neteyam was looking for you earlier, he has something to give you, i think" i say trying to remember the exact thing my twin told me but couldn't, he nodded bidding his goodbyes, making his way towards the village in minutes, i refocused my attention on tsireya, catching her hand underneath the waters i spoke in a silky voice "maybe if you're done, we can go collect seashells?" She just gave me her shy smile that i could die for, moving away from me she instructed the lesson would continue tomorrow, i went to grab her hand again but lo'ak beat me to it, taking her hand in his as they talked, i raised my eyebrow, what the fuck does he think he's doing? Tsireya nervously got her hand out of his hold, giving him a small smile while she swam back to me, if looks could kill he'd be 6ft under, i restrained myself from talking to him, making our way out of the shallow waters, his stare still lingered on her and my blood boiled but tsireya quietly kept a hand on my shoulder, taking my attention away from him, i smiled at her, instantly forget about my bad mood as we started our walk towards our kelku.
We entered our mauri, my eyes quickly going to ao'nung, who now fashioned a new necklace, i smiled at neteyam who was looking at me already, i yawned, even if i didn't do anything today i felt exhausted, when i told Ronal about it she just suggested i should take some rest and that's what I did, falling onto my hammock and pulling tsireya with me, she giggled but cuddled up to me in the end, my thoughts got less and less clouded, finally going blank as i slipped into a peaceful slumber but before i did i hear a familiar voice which i haven't heard in years sounded, still i was lulled to sleep before i could react as i was too comfortable in my mate's arms.

Jake and neytiri entered the tent, giving their respect to tonowari and Ronal, neytiri's eyes watched your sleeping form cuddled with tsireya, how peaceful you looked in your sleeping state in contrast to your scowl when you saw them, they knew their mistakes, they were sorry for it as well but it was too late, neteyam turned away from them, going as far away as he could so he didn't have to interact, Ronal stepped towards them, ready to defend you and your twin with her life if she had to, putting her hand on the small bump she had as she spoke "is there anything you need?" Her voice stoic, Neytiri looked at you and neteyam longingly, she never forgave Jake for treating you like the way he did, but it was Jake who answered first "we are here to invite our kids for dinner tonight" Ronal's face twisted in disgust "you have lost your right to call them your kids, they are my children not yours" both jake and neytiri flinched at the sudden outburst, neteyam just rolled his eyes from his corner, thank eywa you weren't awake, tonowari got up from his place, reaching his mates side he spoke calmly "we will talk to them, but do not hope they will come" Jake nodded, but neytiri was planted to the ground as she stared at neteyam, who sat like she was invisible, unbothered to even look up from his work, Ronal getting annoyed, she put a arm on neytiri's arm, giving her a slight push as to indicate their stay was over, with a heavy heart she moved, stepping out the mauri with her head hung low.
Tonowari made his way towards neteyam, sitting down in front of him, neteyam sighed of course he had to go, and so did you, you had to make things smooth, even if you'd rather die than see their faces again but you had do it now, tonowari patted him on his head, ao'nung taking his hand, intertwining their fingers together, soon enough Ronal woke you and Tsireya up and delivered the awful news, though your first answer was a stern "NO" you were firm on your decision but a little persuasion and bribing of food, you agreed, both you and neteyam would go to their tent for dinner, instead it felt more like you were walking straight into a palulukan's nest.

Me and Neteyam walked towards the kelku we avoided the most, I begged Tsireya to come with me, cried even, but she was firm on me going alone, ahh how she betrayed me! But she was right too, i guess, still even if i thought about good thing, the tent in front of me made me sulk again, reaching the entrance of it, i took in a shaky breath and Neteyam knocked on the rim, all their heads turned to us and i wanted to turn around and run away forever, Again! But i fought the urge and walked in with Neteyam with me, Neytiri looked like she was holding her breath, tuk looked happy to see us, Kiri and Lo'ak were too shock to see us there, Jake looked like he was about to breakdown, i sighed having enough of this "you called us for dinner, jake?" His face fell when I called him by his name, but i had no regret, Neytiri looked heart broken, Neteyam stayed silent beside me, Jake started talking "yes- yeah, i wanted to have chat over dinner" i nod, keeping my face straight, we sat down in a circle, me and Neteyam a little bit further away from the circle so we weren't sitting directly beside them, i look up from my plate as i said "what did you want to take about, Jake?" It was clear it hurted him to hear me calling him Jake, "we wanted to talk about- um- about what happened, 6 years ago" i stopped mid bite, so did Neteyam, his hand in the air as he was about to take one.
"We had enough of you dictating us, you burnt us out, so we left, we found a home where they actually treated us like children and not like soldiers, we are happy and we have a happy family with a loving mother and a amazing father" i finished then Neteyam started "we found our love here, where we tried to find it in you, but you were too full of yourself, none of you helped us, not Neytiri, not Kiri, not Lo'ak, we only had eachother, we did what was best for us, we left" Neytiri's face crumbled when Neteyam called her Neytiri, he was a mama's boy but his mama ignored him in the end.
Everyone was silent after that, Kiri was crying silently, Lo'ak looked down in embarrassment and guilt, i just continued to eat, i didn't care now how they felt by now, i was here for dinner so I'm having it, when i was finished, Neytiri was crying, Jake looked like he was slapped in the face, Kiri was sobbing, Lo'ak looked like he could throw up, i looked to tuk "i happy to see you tuk tuk, come by tomorrow, we'll go swimming" i said right in front of them, tuk smiled as she threw herself on me hugging me, and i laughed hugging her tightly, she pulled Neteyam in too "I'm missed you so much tsmukan, tsmuke" i smiled and we both said in sync "we missed you too tuk tuk" she pulled back, going back to her place and we got up, our faces going blank again "i think we're clear here" i said in a flat voice, that held no warmth, no kindness like it did before when i talked with tuk and i hear Neteyam say "don't call us again" and with that we both turned around, walking out, not looking back at them, once again.

I groaned as i leaned back on my hands, Tsireya beside me, she had a sympathetic expression on her face, she held my hand in hers, when we got back i nearly picked her up in front of everyone and put her down on my tsurak as we made our way to our spot, i was furious, mad crazy, but hurt too, their apologize meant nothing, not anymore anyways, for once we were having an amazing life and they HAD to come ruin for us, tsireya comforted me as best as she could buy i was in my own mind, we stayed the whole night there, sleep was something that i had to chase every night but tonight it was exceptionally hard, at afternoon the next day we decide to go back, my stomach was growling for food as we didn't have breakfast, so getting on y/ts/n, me and tsireya started to make our way back.
As we got closer to our side of the shore, some shouts and screams caught my attention, i looked back at tsireya in confusion "what's going on?" I asked her, her shrug was the only answer, getting to the spot of the shouting my blood ran cold as i saw ka'ani, the clan's known idiot, pushing kiri back and lo'ak shoving him in return, i quickly flew my way over to them, i jumped down before my tsurak even touched the ground and i immediately got in between both the boy, i pressed two fingers on ka'ani's chest, pushing him back "stay away from, you hear me?!" He looked at me, eyeing me from head to toe, he backed up, hands up in the air, motioning his surrender, just then I saw neteyam and ao'nung coming in on their ilus, I walked to kiri "are you okay? Did they hurt you?" I asked, checking her for any harm, she just grabbed my arm, tears forming in her eyes "hey, we might be angry, but we won't stop to protect our own from harm, alright? But this doesn't mean we forgive you" i said patting her shoulder, i heard murmuring behind me, turning around i see ao'nung talking back to ka'ani and neteyam pulling back lo'ak, tsireya walked upto me "come on, guys, enough of this let's go home" i said as i grabbed tsireya's hand and started my way back when i heard screaming and yelling again but this time louder.
Lo'ak and ka'ani hit eachother furiously, ao'nung joined lo'ak and soon did neteyam, i hesitated but the prospect of beating ka'ani's ass was too good and i got in with them, we handed their asses back to them before tonowari and Jake pulled us back, i had blood dripping down from the side of my eye, my lip busted but the adrenaline from beating them was still running through me, tonowari was pissed "what was that?!" He yelled at me, neteyam and ao'nung, shoving us into the mauri, i started "sempul, ka'ani and his gang were disrespecting kiri and lo'ak, we just tried to protect them" he pinched the bridge of his nose "Fine! But next time, you come to me and no more fighting! Am I clear?!" All three of us replied in sync "yes sempu" he simply smiled and shook his head "what have i got myself into?" And we all laughed, while we were all unaware of what lo'ak got in consequence of this fight.

I was sitting on the beach with tsireya and tuk, neteyam and ao'nung were playing in the water, when i heard footsteps coming towards us, i looked up to see lo'ak and kiri walking towards us, i instantly sat up as they took their places beside me, before i could register them being there, Kiri started "thank you- for saving me" and i looked at her with a soft expression "it's okay, i did what i thought was right and ka'ani needed some putting in place too" i smile, my eyes shifted to lo'ak, who had his head down "Jake scolded you, didn't he? I know he did" i looked annoyed, not at him but at Jake, lo'ak looked at me "I'm glad you and neteyam got away, i finally saw what you guys went through and we turned a blind eye to both of you" tears stained his cheeks and neteyam, ao'nung and tuk made their way to us, neteyam sitting beside me as we both pulled lo'ak into a hug "hey, it's fine, we get it" kiri joined our hug "we're sorry, really, terribly sorry for what we did to you, for all the ignorance" kiri cried in my shoulder and i looked at neteyam, we both knew they were sorry, as we held them, i sighed, my mind fought for the years we spent suffering then my heart is battling with my love towards my siblings, in the in we all knew we couldn't be angry at them, Jake and neytiri? Yes but not them, they were kids too so we forgave them "it's okay, we forgive you" me and neteyam both said together, their cries worsened and we held them till all the years worth of guilt and blame was spent out.
After they calmed down, we all laughed and played together, i even gave kiri a ride on my tsurak, while lo'ak begged me to give him one, i just flipped him off, the splash fighting lasted till eclipse and by the time we got out of water we were shivering, all of us but it was fun, nonetheless, it was time well spent.

Jake stood near the tree, so close yet so far away, as he watched the scene unfold in front of him, his twins, his once pride and joy and still are at some degree at the present but his own heart burned and shriveled up for their love, his eyes stung with unshed tears, a small smile playing on his lips at the sight of Lo'ak and Kiri Bonding with them, they had forgiven their siblings but he knew even if Neteyam might forgive them but you would rain hell before even thinking about it, he messed up and he knows it, god he suffered and is suffering for 6 years now, with Neytiri blaming him and lo'ak's guilt stricken state, he had no choice but to suffer in silence and he knew he deserved it because you and your twin suffered in silence all those years and now that you're finally living your life to the fullest, he is no longer a part of it, it kills him that people who are strangers to him are more of parent then he ever was, to see your trust in them being so great, he died a little inside everyday seeing you call someone else 'father' and him by his name- that's what shocked him even more, you called him Jake, not dad, nor sir just jake, as if he was nothing to you.
He longed to be your father again, but he knew he'd have to walk through a holocaust to even make up one percent of the damage he had inflicted upon them, he burned in the fire he ignited and only you could stop it now.
