My Irondad fic recs!

I thought of doing this because why not? Admittedly, I'm not reading as much fanfiction as I did a couple years ago, but some fics have changed my life entirely. In case I forgot one, I'll add it later!

I would’ve organized this in a bullet list, but Tumblr hates me and invented a character limit for that. So this is going to be long and will be under the cut. Anyway, let’s do this!

Rare and Sweet As Cherry Wine by loubuttons – I've mentioned this one before, but this fic right here was what inspired me to write my own Irondad works. One very particular detail I like about it is how it portrays Maria, Tony's mother. It's not what I usually see in other fics about Tony's childhood, since they tend to make Howard the big bad parent. Of course, this is because I personally related to it, as I don't believe in the "bad parent vs. good parent". I also like that it praises Edwin Jarvis as the one who looked out for Tony the most. It's pretty realistic and a very melancholic character study, IMO. *TW for abuse and neglect*

You're Always Iron Man by madasthesea – a very short fic but I absolutely love the premise. Takes place after the big battle in Iron Man 2, and Tony finds little Peter again. They have a very endearing interaction. The following chapter is also very cute!

Nothing like a fresh cup of humiliation in the morning by madasthesea – Pure fluff! This one is probably a classic in the Irondad fandom. Tony kisses Peter's forehead without second thought. Shenanigans ensue. It's so adorable and funny. If you just want to read fluff without angst, this one is for you.

when my body won't hold me anymore (where will I go) by madasthesea - I think I heard about this fic thanks to @/irondadfics here on Tumblr, but I might be wrong since I already knew the Nice work, kid series. Anyway, Peter is believed to be dead, so Tony (and the rest of the Avengers team) is mourning him. In reality, Peter is astral projecting. You know, sort of like how Stephen Strange, in his first movie, was fighting a guy in the other dimension while his body on Earth was struggling to live. That's basically what happens. Strange appears, of course, and saves the day. And I pretty much LOVE the presumed dead trope. I don't know why. Maybe it's the angst of it all. *TW for grief/mourning and temporary character death*

The Reason by doctornineandthreequarters – I think I read this one when I was still writing Oh, take me back to the start. I was looking for fics for inspiration, and I found this one. During the Time Heist in Endgame, Tony remembers the reason he's fighting to bring everyone else back. It's very emotional.

Couch Cuddles by happyaspie – Classic sickfic, but with more fluff than anything. I like rereading it when I feel lonely and touch-starved, especially when I'm also sick like Peter.

You’re So Much Like Me (I’m Sorry) by SpaceCowboysFromMars – Irondad + Miles Morales! Peter is an adult in this, and he freaks out when an injured Miles arrives in his apartment. Tony gives him some wisdom about mentoring and parenting. I don’t usually find Irondad stories featuring Miles (and not necessarily a Spider-Verse crossover), so this was a nice discovery. Peter & Miles & Tony is a very underrated trio IMO. *TW for slight gore*

I'm Glad I Have You by punkybunny – Peter has been having a rough time, dealing with loneliness as Aunt May is not home often, and with bullying at school... until he finally has the chance to spend time with Tony. However, the demons don't disappear completely. Obviously, more Hurt/Comfort, lmao. *TW for nightmare/bad dream*

I Want to Trust You by punkybunny – Actually part of a series that, admittedly, I haven't read all the other stories. But even this one is a very interesting concept on its own. This is a Hydra Peter AU, after Peter has been rescued. He gets sick but given his past in Hydra, he thinks Tony is going to get angry. Peter is proven wrong when Tony helps him get better. The ending is very adorable. I'll see if I can read the rest of the series one day. *TW for past abuse and experimentation*

what you think I've done wrong by ironxprince – I don't often read Biodad stories as you all know, but I was, again, looking for inspiration for You keep me searching for a heart of gold, and I stumbled across this one. Basically Peter, as Tony's biological son, finally meets Howard. It goes as well as you think /sarcasm. *TW for physical abuse*

i, in time, will climb my mountain by ironxprince – This one is heavy. Once again, Peter is Tony's bio son, and he's suicidal. Every time Peter attempts suicide, he buys a new plant. Tony doesn't know this, so he's confused as to why there are so many plants in their house. I love this one, but of course, I try to read it when I’m not having a really bad day. *Once again, TW for suicide attempts*

how do you get that lonely (and nobody knows?) by parkrstark – Yeah... another heavy one. Peter attempts suicide but he saves himself before he reaches the ground. With that, he goes to Tony. This ends happily, don't worry. *TW for suicide attempt*

When You Can't Sleep by Emily_F6 – Pretty much Tony comforting a sleepy Peter, who has just had a nightmare about Thanos. Just Hurt/Comfort and domestic fluff. *TW for mention of death*

i get by (but it's eating me alive) by Livinei – Honestly, I think this is the BEST May's Abusive Boyfriend story I've ever read. For one, none of the characters are oblivious nor dismissive of Peter's feelings. May isn't neglectful and Ned actually tries to encourage Peter to tell someone. I also like that Peter isn't completely helpless. I don't usually see those things in other fics with this trope, sadly. And of course, Protective Tony is my weakness. *TW for emotional and physical abuse*

Hold Me Together by An_Odd_Idea – Post-Endgame where Tony is alive, and Peter and Tony are both trying to cope, so they rely on each other. Pure Hurt/Comfort.

A Tremendous Thing by ExpectoPatronum – Possibly one of my favorite Irondad stories EVER. Also post-Endgame with Alive Tony (though the author better explains it in the notes, it's supposed to be part of a series, but this story can be read on its own). There are a lot of references to Charlotte's Web if you're familiar with it. Basically, it's Father's Day and Peter is feeling guilty and out of place at Tony's lake house, even though everyone is readily trying to include him. It's absolutely beautiful and painful.

Hug You I Must by spiderwriting (catch_you_later) – Probably one of the first touch-starved Peter fics I've read. I like how it describes touch-starvation as this "itchy" current in your body, something that makes you anxious. Thankfully, Peter gets his hug later on. Plus there are some Star Wars references (the title probably is one, lol). *There's some minor violence here when Peter is fighting off some bad guys, but not the focus of the fic*

When You're There With No One There To Hold, I'll Be The Arms That Reach For You by Squibbles94 – Another touch-starved Peter fic. But I really like the references to Cast Away. Ironically I saw this movie in the same year the author published this fic (dare I say SHORTLY after it was posted). I also had no idea that Cast Away was entirely about isolation. Gosh, the main character's monologue at the end ALWAYS gets to me... anyway, yeah, the peak of the pandemic was awful to me, so reading fics like this one helped tons. It still does.

I am cold by N/A (orphan account) – Peter tries to visit Tony, but he gets lost in a subway tunnel on a freezing day. Eventually we learn why Peter wanted to see Tony, but overall this is mainly domestic fluff. Everything ends well.

Sorry Pedro by PinkEasterEggs – One of the first Irondad fics I read. Peter has a nightmare about Homecoming (mainly Toomes), but he avoids waking Tony for that reason. But thanks to F.R.I.D.A.Y's protocols, Peter goes to his mentor. Tony is also super soft here and it makes my heart swoon.

you are enough by diaz_evan – Another post-Endgame fic. Arguably I began reading Irondad fics only after Endgame released. Anyway, this one is short, kinda sad but it ends well. It’s Tony’s birthday and Peter feels very anxious about what to get him as a present. Thankfully, he doesn’t need to prove his love for Tony. *TW for panic attack*

Happy Father’s Day, Mr. Stark by downeylove – There are a lot of Father’s Day fics for these two, of course, but this one takes the cake for me. It’s simple but very endearing to me. Tony obviously doesn’t have good memories of this day, but Peter changes that for the first time. It’s really cute. Plus, Pepper is here, and I love her. I wish I could read more of her interacting with Peter. *TW for mentions of alcoholism and past child abuse*

5 Times Peter Didn’t Say He Was Struggling… And The One Time He Did by Bladam_Shevine – Again, an old fic I read years ago. I admit I haven’t re-read it in a while, but I remember enjoying it and even saving it to read offline. It’s basically what it says in the title: Peter struggles in many ways and he initially refuses help. Tony is always there to reassure him he can count on him. Bruce is here if you like him! And MJ helps Peter on one of the chapters as well. The chapters might get heavier as they go, but it ends on a hopeful note. *TW for injury, panic attack, suicide attempt (it doesn’t involve Peter), and depression*

The Good Days and the Bad by SoupGirlLovesSoup - Peter has had a bad day, now he's cuddling with Tony. It takes a while before Peter finally tells him what happened. It gets sad, but it's mostly fluff and it ends hopefully. I love re-reading it when I need the comfort. *TW for mention of suicide attempt, depression, and bullying*

Breathe Again by gwenoakley - Post-Endgame where Tony survives. He's recovering in the hospital and Peter finally reunites with him. Before that, though, we can feel the anxiety and trauma Peter feels. Definitely makes me emotional. It's the ending they deserved.

Popsicles and Playgrounds by ironfamjam - I can't believe I forgot to save this one in my bookmarks. I used to re-read this all the time! It's an AU where MIT student Tony meets a kid Peter. Eventually, Tony becomes Peter's babysitter! This is part of a series, which I still have to read fully. It's such a wholesome idea!! <3 *Howard's bad parenting is mostly mentioned*

Well, for now this is it! Again, I might add more fics here. I think I also could make a list of what particular concepts I want to read more in Irondad stories, so maybe you guys could give me your own recs. But hello! I'm back ^^. I'm gonna be posting the fully finished version of the wip I showed on monday, but for now I figured I would post my lil Hazbin-sona Akira!

Imma make a ramble about her down here if you wanna learn more about her. If not, hope you like the art! ^^:

I was gonna make her a jackalope originally, but then I made Ruby and didn't wanna another copy. I made her a fallow deer demon specifically since fallow deer can be found in Cali, Texas, and Germany (the main places I've lived in.) Its also why her antlers have a more moose-like quality in them and spots despite being an adult (to represent my freckles.) I also gave her leg fluff since irl I tend to wear legwarmers in literally every single outfit. I was wearing them even before they started trending lmao, I love leg warmers.

However, she's not just a fallow deer demon but a vampire one! It's based around the history that vampires used to be synonymous with demons in the middle ages. I mainly decided to make her a vampire because irl I get called an undercover vampire a lot and I have a lot of vampy-themed stuff, clothes included. This outfit is actually pretty close to a real one I have. But because I made her a vampire, she has a lot of the powers vampires have been recorded to have in the past like shape-shifting (though, hers is a lot more creepy and unsettling than lucifers), fire, mind-reading, magic (witchcraft for her specifically), teleportation, telekinesis, telepathy, mind control, night vision, and my favorite addition: dream manipulation. You can tell whenever she's about to use her magic because her eyes will glow a bright green, as seen below:

Of course she also has the same weaknesses as a vampire such as light and silver (meaning she can't appear on tvs, a lot of Hell's mirrors, or radios). While her blood isn't her food source as she can eat regular food, it is her magic source. If she doesn't drink enough blood or overuses her magic, she won't be able to use it again until she feeds more. She can measure how low her magic usage is based on the size of her antlers, which shrink when her magic is low. Her mind control abilities also make it so whoever she's controlling has access to her mind too, but she keeps that a secret.

Akira could absolutely become powerful in Hell, but, chooses not to because she hates having the spotlight to herself and doesn't want to use her powers for evil the way overlords tend to (though, she isn't necessarily good either. She goes by her own moral system of what she considers bad and good. However, it's a lot less enigmatic than, say, Alastor's.) Instead, she's the hotel's local psychologist! Basically, she tries to help Charlie's rehabilitaion project and take it into a more professional direction. She actually does believe in the idea sinners can be rehabilitated (some at least), but has a very cynical viewpoint of heaven and doesn't want to go herself because of it. Akira actually likes being in Hell lmao.

Most kind of forgot why she's in Hell in the first place because she isn't as out there as a lot of the hotel's residents but every once in a while they'll get a reminder why. Like whenever she helps defend the hotel, or when someone catches her in her late night runs for more blood. She's about as messy as Nifty's but as brutal as Alastor's whenever she kills. Akira definitely has a not deer, cryptic vibe to her, however, hers is in a more skittish doe kind of way. Her irises are slightly too large, but doesn't fill her entire eye like Rosie's. So, whenever she gives actual eye-contact, it can be very off-putting. They also have lucidity that animals do at night, enough that you can see her from across the hotel's hallways at night. Because of her shapeshifting abilities, she also adopts traits from other animals into her default form which is why her eyes can be kind of owlish looking. She tends to use barn owl traits the most such as twisting her neck unnaturally, or wings whenever she needs them. Sometimes she shapeshifts her appearence to be particularly creepy to scare people because she thinks it's funny. To her, anything creepy she does is a joke and not meant to be taken seriously (not that anyone else really knows lmao).

I still remember when s5 bible leaked and in it, the ending stated : "Marinette will lied to Adrien about his father and she will use his amok to change his perspective toward his father." Or something along the line since I forgot the exact line.

And people were like "Lmao, there's no way she will do that. She knows Gabriel is a bad father."

Except now it's trully happened and people saying "She did it for him, out of love!" And "Even if she did give him command, "be yourself" isn't a bad command anyway" as if the idea of someone giving other a command isn't inherently wrong. Not a suggestion or motivation, it is a command! She has no business to control Adrien's life, even more so since she only know a surface level about his life.

Just because Adrien said "Only Marinette understand me" doesn't necessarily means she trully understand him, especially when she barely talk to him prior dating and her understanding of him is mostly from the magazine (and I bet a groupie group).

I don't think the bible mentions anything about Marinette using the Amok. I just read it through right now and it doesn't mention anything about the Amok, so it's up to personal interpretation. Personally, I don't believe Marinette used it, but the scene itself is rather ambiguous on that front. And the show is so broken in its view of the morality of using a mind control device on a fellow human that I wouldn't be surprised if it was revealed that she had done it.

But if people who believe that she did it are defending that decision, that's fucked up. There's no justification for controlling someone's mind like that without their consent. If she wanted to help him be himself, she could let him figure himself out on his own terms and support him, or she could, you know, ask him if he would like her to help him that way. At the very least, doing it with his full and willing consent is better than essentially violating his autonomy and free will.

Marinette does know that Gabriel is a bad father. She may not know the extent of it, perhaps, but she does know that he locked his son up for years and controlled his mind with a magic ring for years, and she still makes the choice to respect Gabriel's wish and lie to Adrien. There is no justification for this, I'm sorry. There just isn't. "Doing it out of love," is the most pitiful and frankly ridiculous excuse there is. Gabriel was also abusing Adrien "out of love." That doesn't make what he did any less horrible.

And you're right that Marinette doesn't understand or know Adrien that well. The show likes to tell us that she understands him like no other and that he feels free with her and all that BS, but it doesn't show us that. What it does show us is that Marinette does not have a clue that Adrien isn't perfection personified until Risk, after which she never put in the effort to get to know him as a person ever again. Instead, he chose to pursue her and literally felt obligated to change himself for her sake. Which is like, fucked up, cause his narrative is about learning that he doesn't have to change himself for other people and he's explicitly trying to be the perfect guy who asks nothing of Marinette for her, and the show pretends this is all fine and dandy.

This is a very unhealthy relationship, even more so now that Marinette is gaslighting Adrien into loving his abuser. This is super fucked up.

My opinion on the finale episodes below the cut. Obviously spoiler warning lol

First of all. I see people say it was really underwhelming and i kinda have to agree? It wasnt a Bad ending or a lazy one or whatever words have been thrown around tho imo. I feel like with all the hype about how "painful" and emotional itll be from the VA and from everyone, we all just expected more tragic outcomes or something.

I am dissappointed because of that as well. I liked how Simon finally reflected a bit and had some self awareness about their situation with Betty. I loved that he didnt become Ice King again or that they didnt do some actual time travel to "fix" stuff. I also liked that they didnt necessarily made him a bad husband (?/boyfriend?) he kinda just never realised that Betty has been putting more into their duo than he was.

That doesnt make him innocent tho b4 someone comes at me. He was a bit too self absorbed but i dont think he was entirely selfish either. He was a person who made mistakes and didnt realise them. The line where he said smt like "i wish we could have talked like this before" also makes it pretty clear to me that Betty never really spoke up about these things either. Golbetty had to make him aware and tbh? I think that was more Golb than Betty.

The whole Scarab ordeal felt a bit. Ehhhhhh I dont know. His anger reaction to things suddenly becoming "canon" (lmao) was very nice to see but him being allowed to wreck havoc like that for a good while felt more like an excuse to bring the others into this world. I dont have a problem with it btw i just dont see the point why we need Farmwold Jay and Little... I forgot her name damn. Also whys Babyworld Finn here 😭 (i get it, he was in the tank, i dont mean literally i mean Why)

As much as i was soooo mad when LSP freed the scarabs it was very in character. I like how it was a thing that he likes animals from the start so it wasnt senseless stupidity, it was something he would do even tho it was the wrong thing to do. Made me pause and lay down to stare at the ceiling in frustration for a solid minute i cant lie, still in chacter tho.

But alas. I like how in the end it all didnt turn magical (completely since ig its partially magical with Cake and everything else) and how Cake finally cooled down about the crown. IM ALSO SO HAPPY THEY KEEP IN TOUCH WITH SIMON OVER THE PHONEEE!! But yea him wanting to move was so real and I hope he does lmao he deserves it.

I only kinda wish they made him reconnect with Marcy a bit more. I am actually pretty dissappointed that we dont know if he ended up reaching out to her more or not. I understand his situation with not wanting to spook her, i actually feel that bit in a soul connecting level good god, but idk. Im at least happy he is Literally in therapy now

(Kinda makes me wonder tho if he spent the time between the end of AT and the start of FC with no like therapist or psychologist. Just rawdogging his mental illness about everything. Mood tbh but like did he? Did he??)

Anyway despite my slight dissappointment i am actually pretty happy with the outcome. I really liked the theories and the ideas of how Simon may make FC magical or what he will become but tbh this is probably the best outcome. Everyone got a happy/hopeful ending (minus Farmwold Finn ig who im atp assuming is dead. Also Star Marceline and PB) which i am really REALLY happy about.

I gotta say I already wanna write fanfic about these guys so inspirational effect granted. Woooo.

Tldr

I was kinda dissappointed because it was overhyped about how emotional it will be when it really wasnt but other than that I am really happy about how the ending turned out save for the alternatives staying in FC

Idk how to say this without sounding crazy but I binged the entirety of your hotgw modern AU in two days and it gave me such bad brainrot I had to cancel my plans with my friends to keep daydreaming about it. It’s so good I’m literally going insane I cannot stop thinking about it the way you write Jon is sooooo excellent and perfect he’s so comforting but also hot and Reader as a character is really touching too ? Like I usually don’t care much for OCs or whatever but you put such care in depicting her trauma and healing and staying true to where she’s at in the healing process, idk as someone who’s been in pretty terrible relationships I can’t necessarily relate to her reactions but I definitely empathized and rooted for her the whole time, and obviously Jon is an absolute sweetheart about it (AND HIM CALLING READER DARLING OMG I WAS GIGGLING AND KICKING MY FEET) anyways I also love how you fleshed out the relationships surrounding reader, like margaery and Sansa and their dynamics with her idkkk I can’t say anything abt the main series but your modern AU is so immersive and i really forgot everything about my life while I was reading it, and I can’t stop thinking about it, obviously I’m gonna attack the main series soon but I was also wondering if you’re ever gonna write a fic with Robb as the main love interest/the endgame ? Im so partial to him and I love how protective and devoted he is (not that Jon isn’t but I’ve already had a FEAST of Jon and im dreaming abt more crumbs of Robb) unrelated and Idk if this is weird to say but I love how you write Jon’s breeding kink LMAO like it’s very hot and sexy obv but you also make it sweet and tender and I loveeeee how you’re like pathologically addicted to angst it literally hits all of my sweet spots your writing was perhaps made for me IDK THE MODERN AU HIT SO MANY OF MY FAVORITE TROPES EVER and tbh I’m usually kinda indifferent to pregnancy as a trope but you literally converted me like it has taken over my brain it’s sooooo good and delicious and idk I think it’s because every chapter you wrote felt so thoughtful and planned out that I loved the pregnancy ? I feel so bad whenever someone starts this series new because I feel like you have no idea what a commitment it would be to read this monolith of a fic.

I always know that someones reaction post abusive relationships is different and so I use my own experiences as a starting point and build off of that, so I hope that it doesn't take you out if it too much. I'm aiming for realistic for reader as opposed to universally understood because everyone's reactions would be so different.

I'm so glad the modern au has resonated so much with you, it's been my little side project when I need a break from the heavy angst of the main series, so to see it enjoyed with fresh eyes is so nice! I'm glad someone totally disconnected from my main series could get into it!

[ Prior to a settled design for Roo, Roo was gonna be a Succubus woman with white fading to black hair! I still have the only drawing I made of her, but it's bad and embarrassing (mind you its like 6 years old so) LMFAOO [ Adding onto the last one, I used to go by "The Unfortunate Roo" before Roo was a separate character and when I used to call myself Roo, I also went by "The UnRootunate" which you can imagine 12 year old me was SOO proud of that... 💀 (it is clever tho so 🤷‍♂️) [ After making Roo's first design, I intended Roo to be trans! But to be honest, I completely forgot about the existence of his middle name LMAO Initially his middle names were "Ivory-Roland" and the idea of "Roo" for a name came from "Roland"! The thing is that Diaries, when at its best, was an inversion of tropes.

It felt fairly obvious to me while watching Diaries, even before Aaron was introduced, that despite setting us up with the whole love triangle two hot guys vie for the main girls attention trope, Aphmau wasn't going to end up with either of them. And this in itself was actually interesting right up until she ended up with Aaron instead, which destroyed all the work put into inverting that sort of love triangle rivalry thing beforehand. Not even necessarily because she ended up with Aaron (although that still bothers me in and of itself lmao), but because she felt it was necessary to destroy Laurance and Garroth as characters in order to end up with Aaron.

Aphmau being Irene was, on a certain level, interesting. So, so much of S2 was built up on saying that hey, Maybe Irene and the powers that I have because of her are wrong. Maybe it’s bad to try to fit myself into something I know I am not. Maybe Irene wasn't a good person. Aphmau makes multiple comments on her powers feeling "evil" and "wrong" when she uses them. The demon Warlock himself alludes to agreeing with her, literally taunts her with the line "There's no way such a beautiful form can be bad, right?" when she refuses to use those powers further against him. Only for all of this to get thrown away and ignored by the S2 finale. We were given this big ol Chosen Hero Ultimate Power Prophecy trope, had it flipped on its head with the conclusion that Aphmau, as a character, is self-made. Everything she is in S1 is things she established for herself, without having anything to start with or go off of due to her lack of memories and knowledge of the world. (Disregarding her ability to understand the wyverns, but hey she's the protagonist you gotta toss her something.) Aphmau not only did not want Irene's power, but also came to the realization that the power itself was possibly bad in the first place. And then the narrative just... forgot.

Garroth himself is an inversion of the typical knight in shining armor trope. He spends most of S1 running away from his problems instead of facing them, he's honorable and valiant and devoted to Aphmau's safety right up until he isn't. Laurance himself is an inversion of the Casanova trope on multiple levels. Once when we realize he really only has eyes for Aphmau, and seemingly only has ever had eyes for Aphmau (her kissing him during the werewolf wedding was, according to him, his first kiss), and once again when we realize that he only really presents himself as a Casanova initially because he literally doesn't know how else to act. 

Vylad is literally portrayed as a villain for a good portion of the entire show and it isn't unless you were looking closely at his actions beforehand do you realize that your entire interpretation of him was wrong. Katelyn goes from one of Aphmau's many looming threats to one of her greatest allies in like, ten episodes. The S1 finale and reveal of the 15 year timeskip is literally Aphmau winning the battle and losing the war. There are werewolves and you're told they're angry and brutish and evil and then they're actually nice and thoughtful and loyal and smart and become very very close allies and they treat Aphmau like family. The goddess and her godly allies who everyone reveres as just and good and never wrong were maybe a little fucked up and evil! The overarching villain who’s named Shadow McDeath Dictatorship Jones actually maybe had a little bit of a point to be fucking pissed at them for it!

Everything in this series is not as it seems initially. Thats the point! You're given these expectations for how things should go because that's how things always go in fantasy stories, and then you're proven wrong! MCD is full of inversions while still remaining a very authentic and honest fantasy series that flips tropes on its head while never making fun of itself for it or sacrificing its story and that is so so so SO rare, even within stories today. And it’s these moments that make MCD truly special.

I really dont think Asougi is an evil conniving manipulative person like the fandom has been making him out to be. Yes he MANIPULATES, of course, obviously. but its not with malicious intent. 

If my father was murdered (and if i liked my father but thats my personal bias lmao) and then disguised as a Mass Murderer by a bunch of racists then YEAH I THINK ANY REASONABLE PERSON would be upset about that and try to get to England and see for themselves what the fuck goes on there.

He lied to the Judge to get away with (checks notes) not murdering someone because he’s not evil. I don’t think that behavior needs to be condemned as something dark and bad. Yeah he betrayed the judges trust but the judge wants him to straight up kill a guy!? I’d betray his ass too damn!

And ive seen a lot of people say that he only brings Ryuu along to be his own defense attorney if things go wrong, but he always wanted to bring him along and was even willing to risk his entire trip to help him in 1-1. I really do think that he wanted him there as emotional support. He wasn’t planning on doing evil in england and getting caught for it.

If anything, he would want Ryuu as his opposing lawyer to make sure that the trial went off without lies and deceit - you know, like the way his father was killed. A Phoenix/Edgworth relationship where both sides trust each other and can argue it out. he KNOWS the court is not to be trusted. and if he gets to bring his best friend with him to help him do this, I don’t think thats evil or even bad. 

He also never pushed for Ryuu to learn british law from all the books they have with them on the ship, as he would have if he was trying to get him to be a DA. He literally just has him come with him. nothing more.

And besides we cant forget that he’s been manipulated this whole time too, but Maelstrom, by Herlock, even by his adoptive father.

This is just a boy trying to survive however he can and no he’s not PERFECT and yeah he definitely wanted to kill Gregson for a moment there, but he’s aware of that fault and faces it head on. He DOESNT kill him, but tells Ryuu that he wanted to, and thats wrong and that he needs to do better.

I also think Ryuu and him fighting in court doesn’t necessarily mean they hated each other during that case. They were still seriously arguing a murder charge that hit close to home and had severe consequences for the entire country. I never got the feeling that they hated each other, more like they were both dealing with a convoluted situation - in which, again, Asougi’s family had been labelled as s e r i a l k i l l e r s. 

And while it ends with Asougi being incorrect, he faces that and decides to work on it, WITH the man he’s supposed to hate.

TAKES A DEEP BREATH CAUSE ANYWAY THATS ALL I just keep seeing people talk about how horrible Ryuu and Kazuma are and that really just never hit me as being the case.

Even putting aside what you think of Mike and Eleven's storyline, I think the logic of "if the ship was endgame it would have been written differently" is inherently flawed because it assumes there's absolutely no way the Duffers could have just wrote their main couple in a way that you/other fans don't like, and I don't know where this assumption comes from. "The writing here was bad" does not necessarily mean "the writing meant to be bad". "The romance between Mike and Eleven is poorly written at times, so we are not meant to root for them" is the same as me saying "the comedy in season 3 was bad, so we were not actually meant to laugh". It's fully possible to think that the intent of a plotline was not achieved while also acknowledging what the plotline was going for. And I think it's pretty undeniable that the writing of Mike and Eleven's relationship is going for "epic endgame romance", whether you think it succeeds at selling this idea or not.

The same argument applies to the "they shouldn't have added Will having feelings for Mike" thing. I agree with you - I think this element was clumsily tackled on and it created a situation where it's very difficult to have an ending that feels satisfying for every character involved. But me thinking that a plot point was poorly handled does not mean that this plot point actually has a secret different function. It can mean that they just messed up. I don't know why shippers treat this possibility as absurd - ST's writing is often all over the place, and many other characters and relationships have suffered for it.

As for your questions, I think your interpretation of events does not correspond to the reality that was presented in canon. The monologue did work - it saved Eleven's life (and, by extension, everyone else's). If it hadn't worked, she would have died in Vecna's vines and the show would have ended right then and there.

The idea that they didn't talk for two days is also not true. Mike specifically says they talked. He references things Brenner said to Eleven that he (Mike) could only have known about if Eleven told him. The fact that Will asks Mike about it implies Eleven isn't talking much to anyone, and he might be the only one she talked to at all.

Finally, I think your last point illustrates how shippers goggles focus on only one thing to the detriment of plot points that, in canon, are much more important. Eleven makes an "annoyed/mad face when walking past will and mike" because she has just lost a battle for the first time, and failed to save her best friend from brain death. It has nothing to do with any imaginary romantic drama or jealously Eleven randomly would be feeling towards Mike and Will. It's a scene that matters because of Eleven's development as the show's main character, not because of any kind of romantic development.

(I forgot to reply about parallels, but basically I think fandom - not just b*l*r shippers - has a ridiculously loose definition of what a parallel even is, and vastly overestimates the importance of these supposed "parallels" in the writing. I think most of what B*l*r shippers view as "parallels" are superficial similarities that can be atributed to either coincidence or basic beats present in any story structure.

And even if we do give in to the idea of arguing about these supposed parallels, I think the ones that are in place for Mike and Eleven and other couples are much more clearer, and thus likely more intentional, than anything on the B*l*r side - i.e., Mike and Nancy both asking each other about their feelings for El and Jonathan and both denying it; Lucas and Max experiencing with Mike in season 2 basically the same conflict Mike and El experienced with Lucas in season 1; etc.)

Okay so its been long enough that i ranted and watched elite that idc for it anymore lmao. The shitty writing pissed me off, i ranted about it, and was ready to move on. But something that alarmed me happened today. Like seeing first hand the real life negative effect the messages of the series sent to people.

Its about Patrick’s character. Now i have a lot of issues with him, including the lowkey racist vibes he had towards Omar all season that were never addressed. But more than that, this is about consent. Since ep 1, Patrick tried BLACKMAILING Ander to fuck him to help Omar. After Ander told him multiple times to back off he still fully touched his dick until Ander physically pushed him off and left. This was ep 1. Now, we can rant about Ander and even Omar’s reactions and the drama. But this isn’t about the drama. Is the message of consent being shown in the series. Since ep 1 Patrick’s motivations, directly stated by him, is that saying no to him (including sexually) is a problem for the other person because he always gets what he wants. While the drama and Ander + Omar’ actions caused them to break up, it was directly bc Patrick kept trying to manipulate them both with sex and kept pushing even after he was told no. Not only in the first ep, but even when Ander tried to say they couldn’t have sex anymore because Omar didn’t want to be open anymore. He still kept pushing. He got MAD about being told no sexually.

I talked a lot about the writing from a plot perspective and the drama. But today im here to talk about consent. I wanted to be done talking about this season, but I just saw a post on fb with over 30k shares and likes talking about how they wanted to be Patrick in the club scene with Ander on the first episode (where he kept touching Ander even when Ander was like “mhmmm… lets not” multiple times). While ik the Omander relationship has been fucked by the writers, i still see comments about how Patrick and Ander could have been so good bc they are hot (and this comes directly bc a lot of viewers now don’t care for the plot, even less for the queer characters and the writers are aware, so all their storylines are incredibly sexual and viewers watch it for the sex and how hot it is). I have seen a lot of praise or wanting to behave like Patrick bc is hot. When his character has a horrible view on consent. And a lot of people are romanticizing it. Hell, i have seen feminists share it bc “it was so hot” and no talk on how rapey Patrick’s behavior is the more you think about it. His whole storyline was him being mad he was told “no” sexually in the first episode. People tend to not look at consent as hard when it comes to queer men vs girls in media (and ik girls are the primary victims of assault in real life, but online we don’t talk enough about consent within the lgbt community, including girls. We don’t talk enough about consent with wlw either). And i hate that Elite didn’t necessarily portray Patrick as the good guy, but they never addressed that kind of behavior either.

Same with Cayetana. Her and Phillipe (Philippe? I have seen different wording lmao and i dont watch with subs so idk💀 i forgot lmao). They are a couple this season and a lot of people ship them. So many vids online of their relationship. So many edits of their sex. And i have not seen people talk about how he literally tried to assault her and then said she was leading him on. At the very least, unlike with Patrick, that behavior was called out and addressed in the series, but it was still overlooked fairly quickly. This season of Elite has really bad messages regarding consent and normalizes really bad behavior, and it succeeds in doing so because people online are going with it. Thee storylines and behaviors were not written to start conversations, but rather for drama driven by sex. And for such a heavy sex show, the consent is off a lot.

It just made me really uncomfortable seeing so many people online talking about how hot these situations were and completely overlooking and being fine with how these situations lacked consent so much.

I feel like i was repetitive a lot, but alas is 5am and i’m writing this because i saw the fb post being shared about how hot the Patrick and Ander scene was in s1, when it borderlines (i think even explicitly IS) assault. To put your mouth on someone’s genitalia after they clearly said NO more than once, even if they hesitated a little or said it jokingly, is still assault and i got pissed at people praising it so i wrote this xxx

So! This was a bit of a tricky one cuz while I also don't like ghost horror, I do love old horror so most of my usual recommendations are from the 70s and 80s. But I do have some newer ones!

I am a gore hound and my movie recs usually reflect that, these aren't *too* bad in that department but just like, check Does The Dog Die or the IMDB parents guide before you watch.

1.) Creep (2014)

"When a videographer answers a Craigslist advertisement for a one-day job in a remote mountain town to video the last messages of a dying man, the job takes a strange turn when the last messages get darker and darker. The videographer continues to see the job through, but when it is time to leave he is unable to find his keys, and he receives a strange phone call that reveals his client is not at all what he initially seemed to be." - IMDB synopsis

This is one of my favorite newish horror movies. It is genuinely horrifically uncomfortable and creepy to watch, at least for me as someone that has been stalked before, and the early bits are realistic enough that we watched them in my college forensics class during the lesson on noticing red flags before you're in immediate danger.

2.) Hostel (2005)

"Three backpackers head to a Slovak city that promises to meet their hedonistic expectations, with no idea of the hell that awaits them." - IMDB synopsis

I think this movie is a lovely critique of American consumerist culture. But most people just think its torture porn. Watch it and see what you think lmao. It is definitely heavily gore soaked and the beginning parts of the movie are pretty boring unless you like watching college douchebags try to score, but it gets better.

3.) Spree (2020)

I'm not even gonna bother with the IMDB synopsis for this one cuz its so basic. Its about a guy that wants to be an influencer but is too socially awkward and obsessive to ever go viral so he decides he's gonna achieve his goal by livestreaming the murder of people that he picks up on his Uber route. Its hilarious please watch it. Very much a horror comedy, its basically American Psycho for gen z wanna be influencers. Which reminds me.

4.) American Psycho (2000)

"Patrick Bateman, a young and wealthy New York investment banker, hides his brutal alter ego from his co-workers and friends as he spirals deeper into his violent, hedonistic fantasies" - IMDB

Its a classic! Everyone has seen the memes. But the movie is actually really good if you understand satire at all and aren't a "sigma bro" type. I laughed my ass off watching this movie and then the end actually hits pretty hard with its critique of (once again) American materialism.

5.) Laid to Rest 1 & 2

"A young girl wakes up in a casket with a head injury and no memory of her identity. She quickly realizes she was abducted by a serial killer and she must fight to survive." - IMDB

And then I won't include the synopsis for the second one since it spoils some stuff from the first.

I'm not gonna pretend these movies are quality viewing material. They're not. They're cheesy fun B-list slashers that I adore for how clunky they are. The villain is also ah, very charming, if you're into that kind of thing.
