Remember when I said how Ingo was done dirty in the Pokemon Legends Arceus game and I went on a tangent on what could've happened, yeah? Now hear me out… platonic yandere warden Ingo, the little times he gets to see you you've gotten stronger and stronger. You're clearly dedicated to your work as a Galaxy corpse member and seeing all that hard work get trampled because of something out of your control struck a nerve with him. Also if we were to take into account that one angst bit that I pitched to you some time ago where the readers team gets killed by Volo's, rest assured that Ingo wont take so kindly to any threats aimed at you. I doubt that he would let you go into town without him or his Lady, he's already lost fragments of someone really important to him, he's not about to lose another through sheer ignorance of others.
Platonic Yandere Warden Ingo is certainly interesting!
He’s almost more protective of you than when his interest is romantic. He sees how kind you are, amongst all these villagers and clan folk. You care for even the smallest person, such as himself. A light like that must be protected. You can handle yourself in a pokemon battle just fine, sure. It’s something he is very proud of! But what about people? You are so kind, you are bound to be taken advantage of. It’s only proven true when you are banished from your village by your idiot of a team leader. You were the highest rank, and did so much for the village and the Galaxy Team, only to be tossed aside like trash. He takes you in instead, and doesn’t let you go anywhere without him. He’s willing to face Irida’s ire if it means protecting you. He’ll even take being banished himself if it means keeping you safe. Thankfully it doesn’t get that far. When you are attacked by Beni, it takes everything in him not to strangle the ninja. But much to your suprise, and Beni’s, he walks right up to the ninja, and slugs him right across the jaw. “Leave, and don’t come back.” Beni only sighs, and rubs his chin, before disappearing. After that, he’s your shadow. If your village leader was willing to send an assassin after you, he’s not taking any chances. When you are welcomed back into the village, he hardly leaves your side. If he can’t be with you, he asks Lady Sneasler to keep an eye out for you as well. She likes you a lot, so it’s thankfully no trouble. People learn to leave you be when they see the man following your every step, who you have affectionately referred to as you ‘Uncle Ingo.’ You don’t see how he glares at them from behind your shoulder. Not one of them came to your defense. They are nothing but pests to him that don’t deserve your kindness. But it would upset you if anything happened, so he only sticks by you as a guard, and as a warning. The only ones that aren’t receiving his own ire is your little rival, Cyllene, and the professor, who all seemed upset at how you had been banished. Kamado, however... After seeing Kamado when you had to save the day, he only held himself back for your sake, since there were more pressing matters at the time. But now? Kamado openly avoids you. He nearly refuses to have meetings with you unless absolutely necessary, though you aren’t quite sure why. You have no idea Ingo paid him a visit late one night, easily sweeping through his pokemon, and pinning him to a wall. “If you ever do something so stupid like that again, and put them in danger, I will kill you.” Kamado stares at him with a steely gaze. “Is that a threat, Warden?” Ingo tightens his grip on the man’s neck, his Gliscor snapping its claws ominously behind him. “No. It’s a promise.” He also has near to no mercy for Volo. Summoning a legendary to smite you down, right after a battle and wearing down your poor pokemon? Ingo isn’t sure why, but he’s pretty sure that’s against a rule of some sort. So if Volo plans to forgo the rules, so will he. He will battle by your side against the legendary pokemon. He goes in to give Volo a real piece of his mind, only to be held back by you. The Warden relents, but silently decides the moment he sees Volo when he’s not with you, it’s on sight.

The sound of the birds chirping in the early hours of the morning, as you walked through the park, was the perfect soundtrack to your day. Smiling softly to yourself, you took a deep breath in, savouring the scent of the late summer blooms. Your feet carried you slowly towards your destination. You were in no rush. Today time was just a concept, and you would make the most of it. You caught yourself checking the clock multiple times before you left the house and decided that you would leave your watch at home. Today was your day. Nothing would ruin it, not even the rain forecast for later in the day. The sound of children laughing was a telltale sign that you were quickly approaching your destination. Excitedly you sped up only to stop abruptly. Under your foot lay the faded outlines of a chalk drawn hopscotch. Smiling brightly to yourself you looked carefully around you, your eyes taking in the scenery, there was no one in sight. Placing one foot on the starting line, you proceed to hop through the numbers laughing quietly to yourself. You were definitely over the age where that would be considered appropriate, but you did not care. Sidewalk chalk games have always been your favourite.
“I see you have found something more important than meeting your own boyfriend.” The voice startled you and with a yelp you stumbled right before your feet could touch the squares with the numbers 9 and 10 in it. Turning towards the source you pouted at the man standing in front of you. The wide smile and soft features were unmistakable and your pout quickly dissolved into a beaming grin. “Yoongi.” You laughed, your feet carrying you towards said man. As you approached him, your pace quickened before you broke out into a run jumping into his arms at the last minute.
“Y/N.” He grunted, the impact knocking the air out of him. His displeasure was not real though and once he gained his footing back his arms wrapped around you tightly. Looking down at him, your heart swelled with affection. His eyes were half closed, the bright smile taking over most of his face, his black hair long enough to brush over his pale complexion. He was handsome and he was all yours. Squeezing him in your arms again to gain his attention you pecked his cheek. “Hello.” He couldn’t help but laugh at your redundant greeting but nevertheless responded. “Hello love. Have a good morning?” The arms wrapped around your waist tightened, you realised he was still carrying you. Worried for his back you wriggled yourself to get him to let you go. His arms only tightened around you, not ready to let you out of his arms just yet.
“Yoongi.” You whined with a pout. “Let me go! Your back.” You patted his shoulder. He knew you were not actually angry at him, if the laughter lines at the corner of your eyes were any indication. “Just a bit longer love, I haven't seen you in so long.” Your pout lessened and you laughed at him, “it’s only been 2 days silly.” Despite your words your arms wrapped around his neck once more as you buried your head in the nape of his neck. Inhaling deeply you took in his warm scent, a smell that has become so familiar to you, it made you feel like coming home.
“Exactly,” he laughed, and you could imagine the sight of his gummy smile in your head. After so many years, the thought of it still makes your heart race. He was not very liberal with his smiles, but when he did share them with you, it was the most beautiful and uplifting sight. The intensity of it took your breath away. Suddenly you felt the world around you shift as he started spinning the two of you round. You screeched holding onto him as if your life depended on it. This was another uncharacteristic Yoongi behaviour, this playfulness only rearing its head few and far between. As a public figure he always had to be careful of his outward appearance and behaviour, his moves always calculated and thought of beforehand so as to avoid any potential scandals. However, with you he always let his guard down. The aloof Min Yoongi morphed into a child, ready to do anything you asked of him. Even if it was building a fort at 4am to cuddle under and listen to the sound of the rain pitter-pattering outside. “Yoongi stop!” You cried out, the colours of the trees around you morphing into one as dizziness started to set in. He did not stop until the echo of voices reached your ears, signalling the approach of a group of people. Putting you back on your feet, his hands lightly gripped your elbows making sure you did not fall over. Once he was sure you were firmly planted on the ground, his hands dropped to yours and with a silly grin he enclosed his palms over yours.
“Come on, we have company.” You chuckled, but followed him, his bigger strides keeping him a few steps ahead of you. The sight of his back brought back so many memories. Over the two decades you had been close, it had become a sight so intimate to you, that more often than not it appeared in your dreams as a refuge, your safe haven. The voices behind you could be heard coming closer, and Yoongi turned his head to glance over his shoulder. Wide eyed he glanced at you, a quiet signal. You needed to hurry up, and so with a giggle you picked up the pace, breaking into a small run trying to reach a place where it was just the two of you.
Hand in hand, your steps in sync, you walked down the empty path, enjoying the quietness of the early morning, the sun beating down on the pavement, eyes closed in contentment. You remembered the first time you felt this complete, the day when Yoongi finally asked you to be his girlfriend. As friends you always spent time together but as soon as you decided that the furtive glances and subtle hand touches were more than feelings of friendship, something in your relationship shifted. Your days meeting in the cafe were not about two friends catching up with each other anymore, instead, they could be considered a bud waiting to bloom, the bud of your romantic relationship. Your conversations were not as easy going anymore, still lighthearted, but this time, him and you were establishing the grounds of your affection. An affection which you would build on for however long you were meant to last. In your heart, you knew that you had always loved him, even before this significant shift in your connection.
“You are making that face.” His voice broke you out of your daydream. Brought back to the present, you narrowed your eyes at him in mock offense. “What is with my face? I thought you liked this face.” Sticking your tongue out at him, you started swinging your intertwined arms higher and higher in the air. Yoongi scoffed at your childishness, but he couldn’t deny the warmth spreading through him. You were beautiful, even when acting half your age, and he wouldn’t have chosen anyone else to fall in love with. Your loud disposition was what drew him to you in the first place. Or better yet, your loud disposition was the reason you barged into his life. The thought of your first meeting made him smile, his grip on your hand tightening. “See, now you are making a face.” Your rebuttal came quickly and he couldn’t help but laugh. As he looked at you, his laugh dissolved into a fond smile. “You always have to have the last word, don’t you?” Before you could think of a response, he pulled you to his side, his hand released yours, only to wrap his arm around your shoulders.
“I was just thinking.” He hummed, glancing at the sky, its brightness making him squint. He regretted not taking his pair of sunglasses from home, but before he could dwell on that thought a poke to his side brought his attention back to you. The sight that greeted him instantly slowed his pace to a stop, and he realised it was not you who poked him, but the pair of sunglasses that you were offering to him with a hopeful smile. “Knew you’d forget them so I kept a pair on me.” In that moment, the brightness of the sky couldn’t even compare with your smile, the latter becoming the sole reason his heart started doing somersaults in his chest. By instinct his hand went to check his back pocket, its weight becoming more and more apparent. He stopped himself before he could draw your attention. Instead, he took the glasses you offered him and placed them on the bridge of his nose, his face instantly relaxing.
With a grateful smile, he wrapped his arm around your shoulders once more. “What were you thinking about?” His eyes drank in the sight of your wistful smile, your eyes gazing off into the distance - the face he’s mentioned before, the face you made when you reminisced. He’s seen that expression multiple times when you’d both be sitting on your balcony, a glass of wine in your hands, your back leaning onto him, both covered in blankets. On those nights you would talk about anything and nothing at all. You would share amusing stories of your daily life, he would share his creative processes with you, sometimes you would play stupid games and sometimes, the sombre atmosphere left no room for entertainment. On those days, both of you would make sure to stay away from any alcohol until after you had gotten all your emotions out. Those nights you would cry for each other, your hearts intertwining along with the stars, your bodies moulding into one, until the stress and pain from the day would release its grip on your souls. He knew that look all too well, it meant that somewhere in your head, you were reliving a story, and so he waited patiently knowing very well he would hear it soon. After a few minutes of silence, the only sounds to be heard were the crunch of the gravel scattered on the pavement under your shoes, you turned towards him, a content smile on your face.
“Do you remember when we first met?” At your words he looked thoughtful for a second too long, before he responded with a cheeky grin. “You mean to say I should be able to remember the time when dinosaurs existed on this planet?” You huffed in aggravation before pushing into him slightly with your shoulder. “Honeyboy,” you warned playfully, “don’t make me stuff sand down your trousers.” He guffawed at the words he heard for the first time exactly twenty years ago. “As if you had enough courage to stick your hands in that mess.” His words should’ve annoyed you, as they did before, instead you beamed at him, the butterflies in your stomach causing a storm of emotions to burst inside of you. He did remember- that was his exact response to you at the time. The knowledge that not only did he have a vague idea of what you were talking about, but he also had a vivid recollection of the exact exchange that took place at the time made you dizzy.
Indeed, that summer day on the playground, twenty years ago, you threatened him with sand in his overalls if he refused to offer you his friendship. That thought would make you blush for years to come, but at the time, it was what instigated a beautiful friendship.
The children playing in the sand screeched and laughed, each trying to create a sand castle better than their friend’s. In the midst of it, you were the loudest of them all. Loud and obnoxious, you commanded the attention of the whole group, self proclaiming yourself the queen of all the sand castles, even though yours was the one that lacked the most. Yet, no one dared to question it, they went along with what you were telling them. The group of children surrounding you soon got bigger and bigger, as your loud disposition would attract the attention of all the newcomers.
“Come on, let's play at the monkey bars!” your pudgy finger pointed towards the abandoned steel poles. You had been eyeing them for a while, not because they posed an interest to you, you could care less about them. But the lonely boy leaning on one of the bars immediately commanded your attention. He was digging a stick in the soft ground at the base of the pole, and you have seen the look adorning his face before. It was the same look you would have when your parents would take you to their grown up things, it was boredom. And on a playground that was sacrilege to you. Without waiting for a response from your newly made friends you ran towards the bar, making sure to stop a few feet in front of the boy.
“Hello?” You called out to him your voice wavering for a second, wondering if it was smart to approach a stranger like that. But as soon his eyes lifted from the intricate designs his stick had managed to draw, your resolve steeled. He looked sad, lonely, and you would not let that happen. Approaching him with a determined gaze on your face you stopped a few breaths away from kicking him in the face with your knee. “Hey, do you wanna play with me?” You smiled at him, the lack of a front tooth making it look like a comical sight. The boy carried on staring at you, not uttering a word, so you tried to extend the invitation again, this time slower, assuming he did not understand you the first time. When he remained still for a few more seconds after which he returned to his masterpiece, your anger increased, and you stomped your foot on the ground.
“Hey, don’t make me stuff sand down your trousers!” You threatened, prepared to bend down to gather a handful of the said offender. The boy scoffed under his breath and you prepared to throw an insult back at him, but the sight of his smirk made you close your mouth quickly. “As if you have enough courage to stick your hands in that mess.” His stick motions to the still damp mound of sand by your feet to emphasize his words and as if to prove him wrong you bend down your hands sinking into the softness of the sand. Giving him a threatening look you dare him to continue mocking you. “Are you stupid?” His voice is harsh, but underneath all that your seven year old brain could detect the bravado. Faltering, you gave him a thoughtful look. “I will have you know i got a golden star at school the other day, so i’m not stupid!” You responded just as harshly. How dare he call you stupid? “If you don’t want to play with me just say, fine.” You stick up your nose in distaste, ready to leave the rude boy behind when he goes to stop you, the sound caught in his throat. Your eyes scrutinised him ready to give him a piece of your mind when you spot the leg that he is hiding behind himself, a thick cast around the ankle. Your eyes widen as realisation dawns over you. Of course, how could you have been so stupid and so brash. Your mother warned you to not rush head first into being judgemental and for the first time you understood what she meant. Embarrassed at your own behaviour you blush, your eyes darting around trying to find a distraction. When you spot the empty grey pavement a thought crosses your mind. You turn around quickly, throwing him a “wait for me” over your shoulder before you rush towards your mother.
Running back towards his dejected form, you could see the tension slip away when he spies you returning. Once again stopping short from kicking him you blush, the sudden courage you had earlier completely gone. Bashfully you extend your hand towards him, a pack of colourful chalk in your hands. Staring at it confusedly, he didn’t know what to do so instead he asked, “what is that?” he pointed towards it and you scoffed . “It’s chalk, now who is the one who is stupid?” He stared at it in awe before he shifted his attention towards you, “and what are you going to do with it?” You don’t respond to him, but instead you grab his arm, your fingers were clammy and could barely enclose over his forearm but with tremendous stubbornness you managed to get him standing upright. Not letting go of his hand you slowly encouraged him to take a few steps at a time until you both reached the strip of pavement you’ve spied earlier. You made it a point to not respond to the boy’s questions until you were both settled, your bums on the pavement and you’d pulled out two pieces of coloured chalk. One pink and one blue. He extended his hand to reach for the blue but you pulled it away tutting at him.
“Not this one stupid, this one.” You handed the pink one and he stared at it in distaste. “But pink is not for boys, pink is for girls.” He complained and extended his hand out for the blue chalk again. “Blue and pink are two colours. That is all. My mommy says you shouldn’t think inside a box, you should expand your….” You stopped, your face scrunched up in concentration. “Skyline…or something.” Dejected at not having remembered the word you took a deep breath in and carried on. “ Anyways, so it doesn’t matter if you are a girl or a boy.” The boy looked at you in awe, his eyes blinking repeatedly in fascination. “O-kay.” He’s quick to relent and soon enough, the outline of a house could be seen in pink chalk in front of him. The excited screams of children could be heard from across the playground and suddenly someone is yelling a name. “Y/N!” The boy looks confusedly around him, expecting a response from the crowd of children that took up his spot near the monkey bars. Instead, you looked up and waved at the person yelling the name. “Are you coming?” They waved you over and for a second the boy thought you’d get up and leave him, like most of the people have done when they’ve discovered he was not only shy but also a cripple for the time being. He could feel his heart drop at the thought, nevertheless, you glanced at him briefly before shaking your head. “Nah.” The group didn’t even bother calling for you a second time, their attention grabbed by the colourful metal bars awaiting them.
“Oh yes, my name is Y/N!” You suddenly turned towards your companion, your beaming smile uncovering your missing tooth once more. “What is yours?”
The boy looked wearily at you, the thought of you staying with him despite his handicap warming his soul. He throws you a small smile, his chocolate eyes scrunching slightly at the action and you swore that in that moment you felt enraptured. “Yoongi.” He didn’t say anything else, his attention back to his dream house. Sure, it may have been in chalk but he was determined to have that. Admiring his work, his eyes trailed towards your form and he could feel a tender smile bloom on his face. Yes, he was determined to have that.
“You were the biggest sap I have ever met.” Back to the present, you and him had managed to make your way through the trees, the winding path taking you further into the park. The sounds of the city seemed far away from you now, the only sounds surrounding you being the busy chirp of birds and the rustle of the leaves in the wind. Yoongi laughed and prepared to prove you wrong, but if he was honest with himself, you weren’t. Taking his lack of response as a win, you grinned cheekily at him. “Do you remember the time you wanted to convince me to climb a tree with you? Because you were told that fairies lived in that tree?” You spied the redness colouring his cheeks, the memory was a blessing and a curse for him. He did ask you to climb into the tree with you, but your memory of that event was not entirely correct. He had asked you, not because he heard that fairies lived in that tree, but because he heard that if you climbed in it with your crush, you’d end up spending the rest of your life together. He was twelve at the time, barely getting out of his prepubescent phase where girls were disgusting to him. He had the shock of his life when he managed to escape such beliefs, only to be smacked head on into it with his best friend. His best friend who went on adventures with him, his best friend who’d sit on the swings listening to his stories of pirates and of dragons - no princesses because they were gross. His best friend who happened to be you. Suddenly, his stories included princesses and princes who saved them from the dragon; most often than not, his plan to be a prince would backfire and he would end up being bossed around and turned into the princess who needed to be saved. He took it all, and played the part with starry eyes, because it was you who asked this of him. Any other person and he would have kicked them in the shin. But for you, for you he was willing to face the wrath of his parents for being out late at night, he was willing to skip basketball practice, only to spend a few more hours with you.
“Correction love, I was made into biggest sap possible.” He narrowed his eyes at you behind his glasses, “who decided that being emo was the way to go, prepared to get your ears pierced and god knows how many tattoos, even though you are terrified of needles?” You couldn’t help but laugh at the memory, the exact conversation that you two had with each other, still ingrained in your brain. It was the first time he had admitted to feeling anything more than platonic love towards you.
You were both perched on top of your bed, your knees drawn to your chest, his, crossed at the ankles, his eyes pierced yours in the fiercest of stares and you drew your legs closer to yourself in an attempt to ward yourself from his stare. It was one of the first few times you had witnessed Yoongi this upset, and it scared you. Only because you had dared mentioning the tattoo you were planning to get, excitedly you even drew a design for it. Yoongi’s reaction was not what you’d expected. to be honest, you didn't even know what he would say, his emotions and mood swings could be extremely volatile- but it was definitely not this. “Yooooongiiiii,” you whined, his stare made you more uncomfortable as time passed and no word was exchanged between the two of you. His only response was a huff, but in your eyes that was better than the silence he’s been offering you for the past half an hour. “Look, it is not that big of a deal, I get this and then I will stop, I promise.” You pleaded, your eyes getting wider and wider, in your signature baby face. A face that Yoongi knew he could not win against, but this time, he would try his hardest. Seeing that your efforts yielded no results you sighed, the sadness that you’d tried to contain taking over you. Attuned to you and your moods more than he’d like to admit, Yoongi noticed the shift in your emotions straight away, and he shifted closer to you on the bed with a worried look. Neither of you uttered a word, the traffic outside your window being the only sounds that penetrated through the walls of your bedroom.
“Look,” you finally broke the silence, the angst in your sixteen year old heart too much to contain. “I just want to prove myself to him, okay?” Sensing Yoongi’s body weight shift on the bed, you hurriedly continued, “-and I know what you will say, I don’t need to right? But, you don’t know what it’s like. I have had this crush for so long now, it hurts physically.” Your voice broke and along with it so did Yoongi’s heart. He had tried his best to support you in all your endeavours, including your romantic ones, and yet, the older he got, the harder it was for him to dampen his own. “I do know.” He muttered and your head snapped up to look at him, he was facing away from you, a dusty rosy pink colouring his cheeks.
“What?” You whispered, your brain trying to recall if at any point Yoongi has expressed his interest in any girl, or boy for that matter. But no matter how hard you’d tried, there was nothing, not even in passing. So once he reiterated what he said before, this time louder, you looked at him bewilderment. “How, what, Yoongi, why did you not say something about this? Who is it? Do I know her? Is it a he?” In your excitement at this new reveal, you forgot all about your anxiety and hurt, yet, your incessant questions were causing him distress. Shifting away from you on the bed he rubbed the back of his neck, “forget I said anything.” But you would not have it, somehow, the thought of Yoongi having a crush on someone felt like Christmas. Maybe one day, both of your crushes would return your feelings, and then you would go on dates, you and him, and other people. Your brain froze at the thought of sharing him with other people, dread settling over you. You could not fathom not having Yoongi there for you. You have been together through thick and thin in the decade that you have known each other. He was there when your parents split up, he was there when you experienced your first teenage heartbreak, he was there to stop you when the hurt of having such a broken family made you resort to underage drinking. He was there to tell you how stupid you were and how you were not only hurting yourself, but you were hurting the people around you. He was there to remind you that you were not alone when you were faced with the hardest decision, to stay with your mother or leave with your father. He was there when high school entrance exams had a toll on you and you stopped eating, he was there to pick you up when you did not get into the same high school as he did. He was also there for the good times. But now that you thought about it, most of your good times involved him one way or another. When he took you to see a film that you had been gushing about yet he hated the genre, when he taught you how to ice skate, when you went to see his first basketball match, when he got you a puppy for Christmas so you would not be alone. He was there ingrained in your heart painting it in pink. The realisation that maybe it was not that one high school classmate that you liked hit you like a ton of bricks. It wasn’t him that made your heart race and butterflies race in your stomach. No, it was your best friend, Min Yoongi.
“Yoongi.” You hesitantly reached out to him, your hand brushing the sleeve of his hoodie. “I just…” He ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. He couldn’t tell you, not because he was afraid he would ruin a friendship, you were both stronger than that. But he could not bear the thought of placing his emotions on you, of influencing you that way. Mentally you were already burnt out, having pined over someone for so long and not having your feelings returned, that he was afraid you would just jump at the first opportunity of an escape. He did not want his affection for you to be your getaway car. It would only hurt you and it would ruin him in the long run.
Grabbing onto his hoodie, halting him from biting his thumb, an action you have come to realise was comfort for him when he was stressed, you pulled yourself more towards him. “I love you.” You whispered, your voice drowned by the sound of a car honking outside and for a second you prayed that he hadn't heard you, but judging by the way his whole body stiffened, a rock underneath your palm, you knew it was wishful thinking.
“You know, I didn’t think you’d heard me that day.” You mused your attention back to present Yoongi, the Yoongi that has already admitted to you on more than one occasion how much he loved you.
“What made you think that?” His gentle voice was matched by the movement of his fingers playing with yours. “It took you almost a year to reply or even acknowledge it.” You smiled wryly at him. Even though that had been in the past, the memory of the uncertainty and apprehension you lived through for a whole year was still fresh in your mind. After months of not knowing how to approach him, every awkward interaction strained the bond of your friendship, you argued with yourself whether or not it was fair on him for you to push and demand an answer, just for your peace of mind.
Yoongi’s fingers grip yours tightly in an attempt to soothe the ache he could read on your face at the memory. He couldn’t deny that he tried to ignore the drift that happened between the two of you that year, thinking it was best if you both got used to relying less on each other. After all, university was looming over the two of you, he was about to leave on a basketball scholarship, and as much faith as he had in your friendship, he did not want to burden you with his feelings. The only solution that he’s come up with was to let the relationship naturally drift apart.
“You were a bit of an asshole, you know?” You smiled at the thought, the one and only time he had ever made you cry throughout your friendship. So caught up in your thoughts, that neither of you has noticed the sight of the one place that was dear to both of you. The basketball court where his life has begun. “Should we go in?” you motioned towards the closed gates. “They’re locked.” The lock was indeed on the wired gate, but you grinned wickedly, a sight that told Yoongi you were about to suggest something that he may not agree with. “When did that stop us?” You laughed as he groaned in disapproval whilst taking his glasses off and placing them in his jacket. You were not wrong, it had never stopped you, and he had his fair share of keeping you out of detention on most days for jumping the school gates.”We are not school kids anymore, Y/N.” His tone sounded as if he was scolding you, but the glimmer in his eyes told you otherwise. You pull on his hand lightly, bringing him closer to you. “Please?” You whispered as you stood on your tiptoes, your lips only a breadth away from his. Yoongi faltered, he knew he couldn’t say no to you. He smirked, that did not mean he couldn’t request bribery though.
“Y/N, we’d be trespassing.” His tone was serious, but the pull at the corner of his mouth told you another story. You knew very well where this was going, but you would not give in that easily, two could play at this game. With a huff you grabbed the lapels of his jean jacket pulling him flush to your body, your noses touching. You licked your lips, the tip of your tongue ghosting over his. “Please honeyboy?” You pleaded, your glossy lips forming into a pout. Yoongi gulped, it took all he had to not sweep you off your feet and kiss you senseless. “Please.” You rubbed the tip of your nose against his softly and he had to close his eyes to calm himself down. “Love,” he warned and you knew that with one more push he would be all yours. “Yes, love?” You let go of his jacket only to trail your palms up his torso, feeling the muscles contract underneath your touch, to wrap your arms around his neck.
“Fuck it.” Yoongi grabbed your waist pulling you to him with such force you let out a yelp. Your bodies smacked against each other, your lips clashed in a searing kiss, a battle for dominance where there was no winner, just pure pleasure. You moaned into the kiss, his soft lips attacking yours roughly, his tongue slid into your mouth caressing yours. Out of breath you pulled away from him, you could still feel the phantom of his lips against yours. Panting slightly you smirked, “I won, now let's go.” You pulled away from his embrace and grabbed his hand pulling him along with you. Gobsmacked, Yoongi followed you, his eyes never leaving the back of your head. It’s been like this ever since you met, you would somehow convince him to get into trouble with you, and he would follow you like a lost puppy. No, he thought, like a lovesick fool.
“Come on, help me.” You giggled as you grabbed onto the fence ready to pull yourself up. Yoongi sighed but did what you asked, and soon you were both running towards the centre of the court, you a giggling mess and him laughing at your giddiness. As soon as you reached your destination you plopped yourself down gesturing wildly at him. “Come on slowpoke.” Yoongi shook his head at you but increased his pace until he hovered over you. He sat down next to you, the object in his back pocket poking him in the back. He sighed, worry washing over him. Needless to say he had no time to dwell on it as you wiggled yourself next to him, settling your head on his lap. “I missed this place.” You sighed, closing your eyes in bliss. The heat from the sun was less harsh than earlier as it was nearing late afternoon. You had walked the whole day stopping in places and getting ice cream and street food from vendors stationed in the park. It was a weekday and so not many people were milling about, giving you the perfect opportunity to enjoy yourselves. With Yoongi being a well known basketball player, it was easy for him to get recognised. Whereas, it wasn’t too much of a problem usually, you just wanted some time for yourselves.
“Hey,” he called out softly, his fingers playing with the tip of your ears. You whined and swatted at his hand. “Do you remember my last high school match?”
Your laughter died in your throat, and you opened your eyes slowly. That memory always brought tears to your eyes, the whirlwind of emotions you had gone through that day left a lasting impression on you. “You mean when you yelled in my face that you loved me and called me stupid in front of your whole team?” You smile wryly at him and he has the audacity to grimace. “In my defense, you were poking a sleeping bear.” His fingers traced the line of your nose until they reached the tip. “Sleeping bear indeed. That is a good self portrait.” You stuck your tongue out at him only to break out in peals of laughter when his fingers find the side of your hip.
“Stop, stop, stop.” You grabbed at his hand trying to get him to stop but his attack was relentless. “You know the words love.” He playfully reminds you and you bite your lip. “Okay, okay, okay, I'm sorry oh mighty honeyboy. I didn't mean to poke fun at you or your skills.” You mock saluted, and he pinched you lightly as a warning, his eyes narrowing.
For a few moments it is silent, both of you enjoying the remnants of the sun, hands intertwined together until you break the stillness by asking the question that hung over the both of you. “Would you have done it all the same?” Yoongi knew what you meant, you were asking him if it were not for the loss of his team then, and the loss of his scholarship, would he have confessed to you that day?
“Yes.” He sighed, there was no need to avoid the inevitable. “Maybe not then, maybe not until years later, but I would have.” You lifted your head up briefly to glance at him, “would you have waited so long? Why?” Your voice is soft, any traces of mischievousness gone.
“Because I had loved you for a long time, even before you said anything.” He sighs, he’d never told you this. After he confessed that day, you never talked about it again. You took it at face value, never once questioning his feelings for you, or their duration for that matter. Your eyes widen in surprise. “Wait, you had?” Yoongi nods at your question, his eyes finding yours as he continues, “ever since you took my hand that day.” He smiles softly at you and you couldn’t stop the watery laugh that escapes. “Well, I enjoyed my aggressive confession, and I would not trade it for the world.” Yoongi could only laugh, the embarrassment present in his voice, he had not meant to be that aggressive but his team had lost, he was injured and you were a crying mess yelling at him for not being more careful.
“Why could you not be more careful? Who cares if you win or not? Did you have to step in at that time?” Eighteen year old you was an emotional mess. For the past year and a half yours and Yoongi’s relationship had suffered tremendously, you experienced your first heartbreak when he chose to ignore your confession, and your second heartbreak when your first boyfriend became too intimidated by your friendship. itting there on the sidelines, watching with your heart in your throat as Yoongi tried to placate the ball only to get hit in the chest with so much force he laid there on the ground for a good two minutes;Needless to say that had been your breaking point. You knew you weren’t being fair, this match was everything to him. This match determined whether or not he would get the scholarship for the university he wanted to get into. Now that they had lost, he also lost the chance to get it. You knew all that, but the sight of him sprawled on the ground unmoving was too much for you, and as soon as the referee had called for the end of the match you ran as fast as you could.
The team gathered around the two of you, after you have managed to break the ranks and slot yourself between them to reach him. You didn’t care that everyone could hear your argument, all you could see was him and his recklessness. Yoongi did not move a muscle, his impassive face not giving away any of his feelings and that only fuelled your anger even more. “Yoongi! Stop being stubborn, talk to me!” You pulled at his jersey, desperate for a reaction. You didn’t even notice the tears that had started to trail down your face, too caught up in lecturing him. He did however, and with a sigh he ran his hands over his face. He really did not want to cause a scene in front of his teammates, but you were not giving up, and the sight of your tears hurt him more than the kick to the chest he’s gotten.
“You know this matters for me Y/N, why are you being like this!” He finally acknowledged you, the tone of his voice still calm and collected. “Because I care damnit!” You pull harder as if that would make him answer you truthfully. Instead of paying attention to you, Yoongi just looked down at his shoes, dreading this conversation. He’s done so well to avoid talking about this, and even though he noticed that this was something you haven’t forgotten, he hoped that when you finally got your first boyfriend things would change, and you would forget about him. He knew it was selfish of him but he couldn't help being relieved when he was offered the easy way out.
“Why?” His voice is a whisper, but you heard it, the sounds of the crowd not even reaching your ears, all you could see was him. Sniffling you let go of his top, defeated you wiped your tears with your hoodie - his hoodie to be precise. “Because! Does it matter?” You don’t whisper, your voice rings loudly, tired or not, you can’t let your chance go to waste. That was the first time he addressed your feelings and you would take it and fight until the end.
“Yes, yes it does!” He raised his voice, the frustration at your stubbornness finally getting to him. “Why would you do this to you? To me? I tried my best to be diplomatic about this! And you are making it so damn difficult!” You flinch at his tone, he’s never raised his voice at you before, but you were not one to back down. Not now, when you finally have the chance to express your true feelings towards him.
“Because I am not a pushover! And because I am not scared! And because I believe in us! And…” the sob that escapes you turns into a hiccup and you paused to wipe at your tears again. Yoongi’s face softened, regret washing over him. He knew he was at fault, for your tears, for your insecurities. But knowing and witnessing how much it had affected you was a different story. “And because I believe in you. So then why would you do this?” If Yoongi had any mind to carry on pleading ignorance, after your confession, it had all gone out the window. Your words hit him like a ton of bricks, the love he harboured for you invading his thoughts and his heart like a tsunami. There was no way he could deny anything now, so he prayed that he would not have to be faced with the truth, one last attempt at avoiding it.
“Why would you leave me stranded like that?” Your shoulders slump, the fight leaving your body, and suddenly your knees feel like gelatin. You stumbled slightly, when a pair of arms wrapped themselves around you, pulling you tightly towards their chest.
“Because I love you, stupid.” The familiar scent of your best friend surrounded you and for the first time in a year, you smiled.
You’re brought back to the present by the warmth of a hand on your cheek. “Love, it’s getting late, and there is one more place we need to visit.” If you hadn’t known Yoongi for so long you would have missed the slight waver in his voice. But you were attuned to every little change in disposition so even the smallest hesitation that you could hear in his voice allerted you. Opening your eyes, you study his face, his pouty lips, the slightly uneven shape of his eyes, his nose, the way his hair falls onto his forehead. This was the man you loved and you would not have had it any other way. You reached out a finger slowly, his eyes following it closely, confused at your actions. When you were close enough to the tip of his nose you quickened your movement, poking his forehead without a warning. The astonishment is clear on his face and you can’t help but chuckle. “Right, where to mister?” You rise slowly on your feet, looking at him with curiosity. He didn’t mention a last spot before and you couldn’t think of any other places that you may have missed.
Taking your hand he guided you out of the court, watching you like a hawk as you descended the gate. Once out, he took your hand in his and beamed. “Where it all began.”
Reaching your final destination, your feet sunk in the soft sand, taking you nearer to the colourful monkey bars that stood proud in the middle of the playground. Twenty years had passed since you have met each other, yet nothing had changed. The sandbox was still full and remnants of castles blown by the wind were scattered around it. The sound of children playing games and running around still as much the soundtrack of the playground as it had been back then. The monkey bars looked old and rusty, however their colours were shining brightly in the light of the setting sun- clearly having been painted recently. The only difference from two decades ago stood out like a sore thumb. It was you and him. Still hand in hand at the playground, so similar to your seven year old selves and yet so different. This time you were not two children, setting out on a path of beautiful friendship, you were not even young lovers, giddy with the thrill of your first love, you were two grown ups, having gone through trials in life and love, ready to take on the world and whatever life handed you together.
You let go of his hand, the loss of heat instantly making you shiver, and you grabbed onto the top of the bar, struggling to lift your legs up. Yoongi laughed at you but at your whines he hurried to help you, grabbing you by your thighs, giving them a push. Now wrapped around the bars like a monkey, your head hanging upside down, you let your head drop and closed your eyes. The utter bliss that surrounded you alongside the warmth of the setting sun made you smile in contentment. “Hey Yoongi.” You called out for him, but after a few seconds had passed and you received no response you opened your eyes scanning your surroundings confusedly. He was nowhere in your sight, and for a second doubt gripped at your heart. Had he left without telling you?
Scouring the playground you let your legs drop to the ground. You did not know whether it was the impact of your feet touching the ground, the thrill of jumping off the monkey bar or the fact that as soon as you turned around, he was there less than a feet away from you, a gentle smile on his face, his hand extended towards you- but your heart felt like it would explode. With the feelings coursing through your veins too much to contain, your lips twitched. You wanted to scold him for disappearing out of your sight, you wanted to run into his arms and kiss him senseless, so confused at your own thoughts that you stayed rooted on the spot gaping at him like a fish out of water.
“Love?” The tender look never leaving his face, the corners of his lips twitched. He took a step closer to you, with each step the heaviness of his pocket reminding him of his mission. Taking your hand in his gently, he ran his thumb over your knuckles, the action sending shivers down your spine. Blinking repeatedly at him you closed your mouth, reminding yourself to breathe, as it seemed that you had forgotten how to. The sight of him encased by the low light of the dawn, his light blonde hair reflecting the golden hues creating a halo around him, was enough to take your breath away. The pads of his fingers gently traced up your hand until they reached your wrist, wrapping around it and gently pulling you along.
You did not question him, your feet moving of their own accord. You followed him blindly out of the playground back towards the cement pathway, as you had for the past twenty years of your relationship. Coming to a stop on the pavement where you once shared your hopes and dreams in chalk, he grabbed both of your hands. His distress was instantly evident in the way they trembled, the clammy grip he had on you, similar to the one you had on him all those years ago. Giving him a reassuring squeeze, you waited for what he had to say, your brain going into overdrive.
“Close your eyes.” His voice is soft, so unlike the tough persona he displayed for the public, yet so much like the Yoongi that you have grown up with. You slowly close your eyes, and for a few seconds all you hear is silence, until a rustle draws your attention. You can’t feel his hands on yours anymore and you drop them to the side, patiently waiting for him to allow you to open your eyes. Your ears perked up at the sound of scraping, the softness of the sound rhythmic as if it followed the beat of your heart. As soon as the noise started trailing Yoongi’s voice broke you out of your trance, and this time, the tone of his voice demanded attention, so when he told you to open your eyes you did so without hesitation.
Your eyes locked onto his, the love and adoration in them washed over you in waves, making you tremble with the intensity of it. His head tilted to the side, the smile pulling at the corners of his mouth and you knew in that moment that this was it for you, he was your forever and he would always be. “Y/N,” his voice carried over to you snapping you out of your daze, his head motioning to something in front of him. Slowly your eyes followed the movement and a small gasp escaped your lips, tears welling up in your eyes.
“Love.” That was enough to break the dam that held your feelings together and you all but dropped to the ground, sobs surging through your body. In panic Yoongi made a move to get to you, scenarios of you rejecting him playing out in his head. You did not try to stop him, basking in his warm embrace, lifting you up and giving you strength as he usually did. You closed your eyes letting another fresh trail of tears run down your face. “Love, please you are scaring me.” His voice broke, and he could feel the wetness gathering at the corner of his eyes. Your only response was to grab onto him tighter, hoping that if you brought yourself close enough to him, you would become one, and he would be able to understand how much love was running through your veins at the moment, how much respect and adoration, for the man that has constantly been by your side, the man who decided that playing with chalk that fateful day was what he had wanted, the man who decided that your loud mouth was worth loving and kissing every morning and every night. You broke away from his embrace to glance once more at the pavement. Feeling a new wave of tears gather in your eyes making your vision blur, you quickly wiped them away.
“Yes.” You sniffed as you looked up, your eyes locked with Yoongi’s teary ones. “Yes you silly man.” His smile widened little by little, until all you can see are his cheeks and his teeth. “Really?” the elatedness was apparent in his voice and in that moment you do not see a twenty eight year old man, you see the seven year old whose hand you took; the child with a broken leg you dragged along to play with you. The child whose hand you would take each year; the child whose hand would become your anchor, the hand you would get to hold forever. Nodding erratically you wrapped your arms around his neck, your lips finding his.
As you kissed under the setting sun, two united souls, the sidewalk chalk writing next to you told the story of your future.
‘Will you marry me?’

Story under cut!
Made with short prompt suggestions from @fenharael @mintythesweettooth @omelevate and @iinsectaa
“Fi, are you sure this is the way to Pumpkin Con? We’re in the middle of the woods and I don’t even see the festival grounds anymore.” said Dime.
“Uhh, yeah. There was a sign like 20 mins back that pointed at a building saying that was where Pumpkin Con was but that doesn’t make sense like what kinda Pumpkin Con takes place indoors? Plus it’s an escape room so obviously it was trying to mislead us.”
“…Fi.”
“Dime.”
“We already beat the escape room like an hour ago!”
Fi paused and was seemingly trying to hide something behind her back.
“Mmmm. I wish you told me that earlier. I sorta searched some dude’s carriage cuz I thought it’d have some clues or something on how to escape this maze. In hindsight I’m seeing that I got us lost and also this thing is way too fancy to be a prop.”
She held up a thick book made up leather that radiated a faint purple glimmer.
“Holy shit. Yeah that’s fancy alright.” Dime said.
“I opened it to see if it’d have any clues or directions to the con but none of them really make sense. Like what does mooaloomoo even mean?” Fi asked.
As she spoke the words, the aura around the book grew and briefly extended as far as they could see before returning back to its small glow.
They paused and looked at each other.
“Okay that didn’t look like directions to me.” said Fi.
“So. Shall we run?” asked Dime.
“Ya.”
The two dashed toward the direction they came from, hoping to not have forgotten any steps but it was a bit difficult to recall which way they headed in the woods.
Fi tried to check her phone but her battery was already at 1% and what if she needed it for more important things like keeping a Snapchat streak?
Dime was also the owner of a dead phone, with their only hope being able to remember the way back.
But neither of them could remember. They were beginning to lose hope and accept that they will miss that day’s Pumpkin Con. At the height of their despair, that’s when they heard a voice.
“Moo?”
It was a cow. Then another. Ten cows?
Fi and Dime were surrounded by cows and the herd seems to be attached to them. One walked up to Fi and rubbed its head on her.
Another started sniffing Dime’s hand and licking them.
“The book did this? Pretty cool but I can’t imagine what magician would need this spell.” said Dine.
“Okay but like.. I love this and I might do this too all the time.” Fi replied.
“That’s true it is kind of lovely. Be better if we weren’t lost though.”
The cows seemed to look at the two of them with concern. They understood the sentiments of the two!
“Hey Dime, you know what Pumpkin Con has a lot of? Cows of course! Maybe these guys can lead us back there! And also maybe love us enough to hide the fact that I stole this book from someone!”
“That’s a good idea! Except maybe the last thing! That’d be like leading us into a plotline too dangerous and complex to be solved in a short story!”
Fi smiled and asked the cows to lead them to the con.
“Moo!”
Fi, Dime and the ten cows arrived at the pumpkin field that was inside a building. It was beautiful. They had all the usual things a pumpkin convention would have: Pumpkin carving, pumpkin pies, pumpkin q/a panels, everything!
“Thank you for leading us here. Hey if you understand me, here’s my phone number in case you wanna call later on.” Dime said.
The two spent the rest of the day in enjoyment till it was time to head to their hotel, Spellbook still in hand.

Promise
Anon asks: Hey there, love! Can you write an angst drabble about yoongi having a hard time finding balance between work and relationship? It can have a fluffy ending if you want to but hit me right in the feels while you're at it please. ⊂(◉‿◉)つ I hope you're comfortable with the idea. Thanks ❤️ Lovely blog you got here. ❤️
Thank you for requesting. Angst is one of my favorite things to write, so I was happy to do this!
Pairing: Min Yoongi/reader
Summary: Struggling to balance work and his relationship, Yoongi realizes he may loose you for good.
Warnings: Angst, breakups
Word Count: 2k
Dating an idol was never easy. Dating Min Yoongi, despite being a dream, always had its ups and downs. Unfortunately, it seems that most of your relationship the past few months had only been downs. Balancing work was hard and sometimes Yoongi struggled with it more than he liked to admit, but the last few months have been worse. Missing dates and important days with you, forgetting to call you back, or just ignoring you outright. Yoongi didn’t seem to notice the shift, or if he did he didn’t say anything about it. It made you wonder if it was intentional at times if he just wanted to ignore you or drive you away because he was too afraid to just come out and say he didn’t want you around anymore. You knew from the beginning that dating would be hard, Yoongi made it painfully clear that you would never have a normal relationship. It wouldn’t be like a fairytale in the movies. He was an idol, adored by millions, and constantly caught up in his work and passion.
It would always be hectic, but you didn’t mind. You loved Yoongi and took on the challenge and made it work for so long. You both always made time for one another. Early in the morning when he would kiss you goodbye, on lunch breaks filled with phone calls or texts. His days off always came so far and few in-between but you both planned and looked forward to them. It feels like it’s been months since he’s taken a day off. When he comes home you’re long asleep and mornings no longer felt like fluttering dreams where he’d kiss you and talk before leaving. You tried to hold on, remind yourself that things always bounced back. It was just a rough patch.
But you were getting tired of waiting. It was lonely, discouraging to just sit and wait for him. You went about your life as usual with his absence nagging at the back of your mind. Today you decided to stop by and see him for lunch. The two of you hadn’t actually seen each other in about a week, so you figured bringing him some lunch and sitting down to talk would be good.
Yoongi hadn’t quite felt that way. You had knocked and come in to find him at his computer, eyes glued to the screen as he worked. “Hey, I brought-”
“I’m busy Y/n” Yoongi cut in, not looking away from his work.
“I know, but you’ve been working nonstop the way few weeks, I thought it would be nice to have lunch-”
“Y/n, I’m busy” Yoongi repeated, sparing a glance back at you. It was more a glare.
“Yoongi you need to take a break- we need to talk.” You argued, setting the food down and coming up to him. “Things haven’t been the best between us and I think-”
“Things would be fine if you just left me alone” Yoongi huffed, “I’m busy, you know that.”
“Things wouldn’t be fine! They haven’t been for months!”
Yoongi finally tore himself away from his work, turning to face you with knitted eyebrows and a frown. “What are you talking about?”
“Please, don’t act like you haven’t been ignoring the past few months!”
“Are you kidding me Y/n?” Yoongi scoffed, “I can’t drop work just to spend time with you whenever you want. Do you know how much I have to do? All the pressure that’s on Bangtan right now?”
You scoffed, shaking your head. “For three months? We’ve barely had a conversation, I can’t even remember the last time you kissed me!” Both your faces were beginning to heat up in anger, “I know you’re busy and I’ve been so understanding of it for so long, but you’ve taken things to a new level!”
“You knew what you signed up for when we got together,” Yoongi argued.
“I didn’t sign up for this Yoongi! You ignore all of my calls and texts and when you do have time off you’re with the boys. You don’t even come home half the time! I didn’t sign up for you to ignore me every minute of the day! What happened? We were balancing things great, why did you change? Do you not care about our relationship anymore? Too much trouble for you to just try?”
“Maybe it is!” Yoongi snapped.
Your eyes widened at his outburst, taken back that he would say something like that. “Well, I’m sorry that you feel that way” you dug your nails into the palm of your hand. “I’m sorry for asking for the bare minimum from you.”
“Just leave Y/n” Yoongi waved you off. “You just want to start arguments right now, I don't have time for this.”
“Yoongi-”
“Go! Just leave me alone Y/n!”
You bit the inside of your cheek, nodding as he turned back to work. You grabbed your, stopping to look back at him before leaving. He didn’t look back, just kept working. “Bye Yoongi.”
You sniffled as you made your way out of the building, tears threatening to spill as you tried to keep yourself composed. You kept your head down as you hurried through the lobby, wanting to escape the public eye as soon as possible. “Oh, Y/n!” You slowed your steps as you noticed Taehyung heading your way. “Come to see Yoongi?”
“Please Tae, now isn’t a good time.”
“Are you okay?”
“I- yeah, everything's just fine.” Taehyung frowned, grabbing at your sleeve to pull you aside to sit.
“Why are you crying?”
“It’s just- Yoongi and I, we…” You sighed, unable to figure what to say. “We got into an argument and I think….I think it’s time we break up.” You admitted, a rush of tears falling from your eyes.
“What?” Taehyung’s face shifted from concern to confusion, “but you guys have been together for so long-”
“Well, he made it very clear that he doesn’t have time for this relationship anymore. I’m sorry Tae I need to go back to the apartment, I don’t want to be there when he gets home.” You admitted. You didn’t give Taehyung a chance to say anything more, afraid of breaking down any farther if you stayed to talk.
He never said he wanted to break up with you, but you couldn’t see anything changing even after this argument. He had been so nonchalant, still so absorbed with his work to even talk to you. You went home, waiting around for the afternoon. A little shred of hope that he would come home hung in your mind. He will come home, you told yourself, he’ll come and we’ll fix things. You waited and waited, tried to call him once but was met with his voicemail. It was beginning to get dark when you decided to call it quits, calling a friend to stay with and packing your things. You sat down on the bed, your things resting at your feet as you waited for your friend to show up. Holly pawed at your leg, prompting you to frown at the little dog. “Sorry for leaving you alone Holly” you sighed, reaching down to scratch his head. “Don’t worry, Yoongi will be home for you soon.” You looked around the room, thinking about all the lonely nights you had spent staying away and waiting for Yoongi to come home just so you could talk to him. You always fell asleep though, or he was too tired to talk.
You sniffled, feeling a new wave of sadness strike your body as you started to think about the good times the two of you used to have. Lazy afternoons cuddling and talking, dinners made together or evenings spent getting ready to go out together. It felt like years since you had that feeling with him.
Your phone lit up and you stood, grabbing your bag and leaving Holly with one last pet. You texted Yoongi as you headed out.
I’m leaving, won’t bother you again.
Don’t forget to come home and see Holly.
Bye.
You thought maybe he would text you after that, sitting in your friend’s car hoping to feel your phone buzz with his name. It never did.
After leaving that night you never went back. He tried to call a few times, but after a few days of ignoring him, he stopped. You were staying with your friend, for now, looking for your own place in your spare time. You continued working and living normally, you had already grown used to Yoongi’s absence in your life. It didn’t mean you didn’t miss him though. It hurt that you had to leave him so quickly, but things had been so bad for so long. Fixing them didn’t feel like an option anymore, especially after he said it was too much trouble to try. You didn’t care if he truly meant it or not, it still cut deep. You had your bad days. Days where you would go through your life sluggishly, sensitive to all the memories that still ran fresh with Yoongi.
Today was one of those days. You had just gotten off of work not long ago and we’re planning to head to a restaurant to grab some dinner before going home. It was on the way to the apartment, and it had always been one of your favorites. It had been just over a month since the last time you saw Yoongi and you thought grabbing your favorite dinner would help you feel better.
You were wrong because he was there.
Yoongi was sitting with Namjoon and Hoseok just across the restaurants, towards the corner quietly talking and eating. You were sitting at a little table near the windows, debating whether to leave or not. You had already ordered before you noticed them, so you decided to just wait it out and hope they left soon and didn’t recognize you. Seeing him brought a stab to your heart, almost bridging tears to your eyes as you distracted yourself on your phone.
“Y/n?” You closed your eyes, setting your phone down. Yoongi’s voice was quiet despite the fairly empty restaurant.
“Yoongi.”
You looked up, your first mistake. Yoongi was staring at you with wide eyes, almost disbelieving that he had really run into you. “Y/n, uh- can I sit?” He asked, taking a seat with you nodded. “You never answered my calls…”
“I couldn’t talk to you.”
“I know...I don’t blame you” Yoongi sighed, “but I just wanted you to know that I...I didn’t mean what I said to you.” He sighed, “I’m sorry for hurting you.”
You shook your head, “It wasn’t just that Yoongi. Things had been falling apart for months, you just never noticed.”
“I know, I know” Yoongi rushed to say, “I realized that after you left...Taehyung and the others told me. Said I wasn’t treating you right.”
“You weren’t.” You sniffled. “I don’t understand why. I was always so patient for you, I understand that you were busy, but you just kept getting more and more distant.”
“You were amazing, I got too comfortable I guess, and just- I never stopped caring about you Y/n. I promise I didn’t. I loved you- I still love you and I want to make it right again-”
“Can you promise me things will change?” You asked. “Can you promise me?”
He stayed silent, staring at you with unsure eyes. You scoffed, moving to grab your bag and leave, only for him to grab your hand gently. “Wait Y/n-”
“Yoongi, I can’t go back to what we were! I can’t do it, I’m sorry.”
“Y/n please, I-I can’t promise things will always be perfect with us. We both knew that things would be hard, but the way I acted towards you, I promise I will never hurt you that way again.” His eyes shined with tears, and once threatened to fall at the corner of his eye. “I can promise to try my best for you, to be a better boyfriend. Please, let me try to fix thighs Y/n, please don’t want away.”
“Yoongi,” you whispered, biting on your cheek as you tried to steady your breathing. “I just need time Yoongi, let me think about all this.”
He nodded solemnly, “call me if you want to talk.”
“Maybe.” You spoke, pulling away to leave. Yoongi sat alone for a second, watching you hurry out.
He wasn’t sure if you would call, but he prayed that you did.

*In this house we stan string theory and multiple dimension theory *Also, this chapter gets a little preachy, and delves more into my interpretation of the series so to make up for it I made a lot of art.
~POV Sinbad~ "If you're willing to talk about the future, does that mean you are finally ready to explain about those calamities you mentioned in Balbadd?" When Ja'far cut in he was in a rush; he didn't want to miss this chance. Sinbad had underestimated Ja'far's concerns; he had been too preoccupied with the Prophet. All the same, "I don't know if this is the time for that conversation. This is Mori's first meal with everyone after all." Wait. He knew that look. Ja'far wasn't actually asking to have that conversation now. He was pressuring Mori so she would have to agree to tell them soon. "I'm fine. I made a promise and I intend to keep it. As long as everyone else is willing to talk seriously for a few mins, I don't see the problem." Mori was wearing the same stern expression she had the morning of the coup in Balbadd. When Ja'far had cut in with his request he could have tried to sound a little nicer but it didn't warrant the cold response Mori gave in return. There had been rising tensions between Ja'far and Mori since Balbadd, but both seemed to get along most of the time. "Wait really? You're agreeing this easily?" Ja'far's shock also spoke for the King. She obviously didn't want to talk about the Calamities even when she promised to tell them, so why now? "A promise is a promise." Mori almost felt like a completely different person compared to the coy way she was teasing them all just moments ago. "Besides, this will just continue to be a point of contention until I explain."
--- King Sinbad was finally eating with his Generals and Prophet, but this was nothing like he had planned. Mori sat straight with both hands on the table interlocked. "The 1st of the 2 calamities occurs in about 2 years. As you know, there's a few countries that currently have rising tensions." Which countries? The Kou and Riem were prime contenders since they were already Empires causing trouble for other countries. There was also Magnostadt which has been becoming increasingly hostile to other nations, and seemed to be encroaching on the Kingdom of Actia. "In 2 years, 3 of them are going to go to war. A massive amount of black Rukh will be released, and the same type of magic used to make the Dark Djinns will be used to make a humanoid monster the size of a mountain." Of course, Al Thamen would be involved. "The amount of black Rukh it will have will make it a Medium for opening a black spot and letting Ill Ilah connect to the world which is Al Thamen's ultimate goal. Once Ill Ilah connects it will destroy all of the white Rukh in the world -bringing death." It sounded just like what Falon had described as her plan all those years ago. The same thing that happened in Parthevia a decade ago is going to happen again in only 2 years? "The Medium is destroyed before that can happen thanks to all of the current Metal Vessel users and assimilated Household Members coming together to destroy it. The world is saved but in the process one of the Magi will have to commit one of the ultimate taboos of this world. That taboo is what will eventually lead to the 2nd Calamity. If King Sinbad and the Metal Vessel users of the Seven Seas Alliance, which were the last to arrive, can show up sooner then that taboo and the 2nd Calamity might be something that can be fully avoided especially since I already know the Medium's weakness." It was clear that Mori knew more. Sinbad would have to talk to her about it later; he wasn't sure how much he wanted to talk about this tonight -they were supposed to be celebrating and getting to know each other light heartedly. However, there was one question he couldn't hold back from asking. "What is this taboo?” Mori sighed like she had expected that question. She looked to the ceiling. "Honestly, I didn't want to think it was a taboo when I first learned it, but after seeing what happens I get it now." She looked back at them. "I hope you can accept me not telling what it is. I don't want to even try to explain the 2nd Calamity because I'm not sure how without explaining the taboo. You see, the taboo involves information, so if I explain it to you I will be committing the taboo myself. I can only hope that the world isn't endangered because I know it." The air in the room felt thick. All of the Generals were waiting for his decision. Sinbad tried to read the Prophet's expression. It was serious, and determined; it seemed like fear and remorse were hiding right under the surface. What information could be dangerous on its own? "Alright," he agreed. "We don't want to take any unnecessary risks. However, if we are unable to prevent the taboo from being committed you will explain the 2nd Calamity." Mori attempted a half-hearted smile. "I was already planning to do that." She glanced around at the Generals. "Are there any other questions?" Sharrkan grumbled. "This is all really complicated stuff." "Yeah. Pretty scary, huh?" Pisti agreed. Drakon and Hinahoho were sharing a look while thinking.
"You still haven't told us where this is going to happen." Ja'far decided he would ask the next question. "Are you withholding that information on purpose?" Mori's expression was blank. "I'll tell you the countries involved after King Sinbad returns from the Kou Empire. I don't want to influence how the negotiation goes by giving him too much information he wouldn't normally have. I'm doing this for Balbadd..." Mori withholding vital information was the entire cause of Ja'far's distrust of her. "You took too long to tell us what was going to happen back in Balbadd, remember? If we know what their next target is then we can stop it before it ever happens." "The 1st Calamity has nothing to do with Al Thamen." "What?” that question was asked by all except the Prophet. Mori explained, "That country has refused contact with them and been building towards this for the past 10 years all on its own. All of the Black Rukh that has been accumulated there is like a trap waiting to be set off. The people currently in charge are not people who would be willing to accept change, or to listen to the arguments of the people here." That definitely narrowed it down. Riem was already having meetings with them, and it was only a matter of time before they formed an alliance. They already had the peace treaty with the Kou, and King Sinbad was about to go negotiate with them for Balbadd. That only left Magnostadt as the center of the conflict -the country they knew had increasing disparity between it's upper and lower classes. Mori was staring at him. He wasn't the one she was actually hiding this from. Since it didn't seem to be an avoidable Fate, she was preventing Yam from learning the Fate of her home country for as long as possible. Mori was trying to be considerate. "How is that possible?” "If they aren't behind it then how could such a thing happen??” Mori gave a sad smile. "It would be so much easier if all of the bad things in this world really were all caused by that organization. I had wrongly thought that was how this world works in the heat of the moment back in Balbadd, but I know better. I've read this world's Fate after all. Even in this world it is a mistake to hold onto the hope of total altruism too strongly." It almost felt like she was calling them all naïve with that last statement. She looked down at her hands. "Sentience, experience and free will make us all imperfect. All people are shaped by their past and everyone has a vice. There will always be people who think they are above everyone else, people who think they are right because of their feelings, people who think that they deserve something just because they want it or that they can do something because it is available to them," she looked back up and made direct eye contact with her King, "people that think that their luck or privilege is a sign that they were chosen by Fate, that they are the only one who can do something because they are special and that that means they are righteous and their failings mere stepping stones when in reality they are all normal people just like the rest of us." ///She knows nothing about being a Singularity. There's no greater proof of being chosen by Fate!/// Since the Fall of First Sindria, Sinbad had been hearing a voice periodically. It was like stray thoughts -many were opinions he didn't really have. The fact that the voice felt the same as him in this made a pit form in his stomach.
Mori gestured at him and continued. "Even his Majesty being a 'Singularity' is only something rare. You aren't the first, and you won't be the last. You know I can read the waves of Fate as well, so it's obviously not the type of thing that you or Al Thamen makes it out to be. There is no 'chosen one.' No one is immune to human fault or failing. 'Fate' is the history of how all of our decisions affect each other.” It was like she was reading his thoughts. There were other Singularities? Mori could also read the waves but- The waves in the room were over flowing. This was greater than when Mori changed things in Balbadd. They were far off topic now, but this was more important. ///She doesn't understand anything. I've read Fate!/// Those stray thoughts hated Mori and how she was changing things since the beginning even though when Sinbad read the waves around her he liked the direction they were going. Her waves wouldn't stop him from reaching his dream. If that voice was this against what she was doing then he had to know more. "Mori, please tell me, what makes you so sure? You say you've read Fate; how can you say there isn't a grand plan? Can you really deny that the Rukh guide us?" Would they have to agree to disagree? Was this something he could afford for the Prophet of his own country to not see his way? She watched him and the Generals as she thought. "There is a 'plan,' but it isn't absolute. I read more than one 'Fate' for this reality. If Fate was already fully decided then in Balbadd Judar would have defeated all of you instead of being crushed by Ugo, and Cassim would have married Princess Kougyoku instead of dying, but that didn't happen, now did it? When I read Fate, I read how it was changed from it's original design by the people of this world. And as I've already said, I couldn't be here if everything was already decided.” ((these are things that are said to be in the og draft of Magi, but got changed when actually making the scenes)) They had been changing Fate's course before Mori arrived? Was that even possible? Mori wasn't the type to lie out right over something like this. Between her demeanor and the waves, he could tell she wasn't lying. He had to know where this new path was leading and asked an obvious question. "Isn't it just as likely that those 'changes' were supposed to happen?" Mori scowled at that. "Anything is true somewhere. There are infinite realities where any Fate is true. Every moment infinitely more form to account for every possibility -every decision, and unexpected change, even an asteroid coming and destroying the planet. If you can imagine it, it is reality somewhere." Sinbad had read Fate in the waves, of course he knew about there being other possibilities. Were there really other realities where he had followed one of the other paths? Mori didn't wait for him to comment. "There's no way to know which destiny or Fate we are following until it's already happened. Being able to read the waves has helped me narrow it down to 2 or so of the Fates that I read for this reality, but it can't account for everything. Since I can't read my own Fate I can't know how my presence will affect things." Mori continued, "When I read this reality's Fate, I learned how it functions on a fundamental level. Everything is made up of Rukh and is dictated by the Rukh and magoi. The Great Flow of the Rukh 'guides' the living but it is also affected by the wants and desires of the living. It sees all those wishes and creates opportunities for people to realize those dreams based on how many want that dream to become real. But it's still up to the living how they react. The Great Flow creates opportunities and makes suggestions, but it can't make your decisions for you. And" Mori paused while looking for the right words, "and the more magoi directed at a certain wish the more likely the Great Flow will try to help." Mori waited for them to absorb the meaning of her words. That meaning made Sinbad nervous. If she wasn't lying... Drakon broke the silence. "That would mean that someone with
a lot of magoi would have a greater affect on the Great Flow." "It does." Mori confirmed. Was that really how the Great Flow of the Rukh worked? How Fate worked? Mori stayed silent again, reading them as much as they were reading her. The waves were still high. Yam was the next to comment. "I know the amount of magoi a person has defines how strong of a magician they can become, but it sounds like those born with a lot of magoi also have an amazing privilege when it comes to the Great Flow." "Exactly." Mori agreed. "The people that Fate seems to favor aren't chosen by Fate or particularly special. They are born lucky just like those born rich." She paused. "All Dudgeon Capturers have an above average amount of magoi. A Djinn won't select a King that doesn't even have enough magoi to use their power. The more Djinns a person has, the more magoi they need to have. King Sinbad, you were born with a rare ability, and the equivalent magoi of a large city or small county -even before all that Rukh merged with you in Parthevia. If you didn't, there would be no reasons for the Djinns to cut you off from trying to capture more Dungeons." "What?" Sinbad's question slipped out of him in an airy gasp. He knew he had more magoi than average, but this would make him no different from those that grew up as royalty thinking that they were inherently better than their poor subjects. He wasn't sure if he could believe her, but the waves of Fate had never lied to him. The Prophet's waves were overwhelming the space, encouraging him to believe her. It was obvious how this information would change things. King Sinbad had more than the waves, he also had a sharp intuition. There was something hidden in her words. Some truth about his future that she hadn't told them yet. Even if he had been intentionally given these privileges by Fate, Mori had already stated that his decisions were his own. When Mori had said there were people that conflated their privilege with a righteous roll given by Fate it definitely included him. But if he wasn't chosen by Fate, if they had been changing Fate all along, then what was what happened in Parthevia or Riem? Mori's voice pulled him out of his thoughts. "Not being chosen by Fate and everyone having free will is a good thing if you ask me. It means when someone chooses to do right by others it is because they chose to, not because someone is forcing or directing them. I like to think that everyone thinks they are doing the right thing, and only act out against others because of strong emotions and ignorance. The cure for most negative emotions is a stable environment ((including medication for those who need it)) and the cure for ignorance is education. These are things that Sindria and the Seven Seas Alliance are able to provide. "All of you are using your privileges and talents to help people, and to bring peace to the world. Regardless of whatever mistakes you made in the past, this country and the current state of the world are a direct result of your choices. These choices you've all made are even more admirable because you made them on your own. Isn't that why so many have sided with Sindria already? It's also one of the main reasons I chose to become Sindria's Prophet in the first place. With your help, we can greatly reduce the disparity of this world and raise the quality of life for everyone." Her smile was soft and confident. Mori's waves overtook his own.
The King had a thought that shook him, but it was Hinahoho that asked it, "You didn't just tell us some of the taboo information, did you?" "What? No." Mori was shocked by that question. "His Majesty and others would have figured this out all on their own in about 5 years -not to mention those that already know it." He could try to deny it, return to the path he was on, but he would know deep down that she was right. And apparently, he would figure this out in the future anyway. There was no reason to hold himself back then. He could see that now -there was no going back. This was one of the changes he had felt in her waves from when he first met Mori. ///How can she say such foolishness?? This woman must die before she ruins everything!!/// A chuckle slipped out of Sinbad. That voice really did hate his Beautiful Prophet. His waves were changing. He was changing. But he still had the same dream: to create a world without war or poverty. Mori's goal was to remove disparity. Even their goals worked well together. Why had he been so sure that being a Singularity made him some special chosen one? When had that started? It was members of Al Thamen that had told him that. They were the enemy yet he still believed their manipulation so completely. Sinbad knew why deep down. If he was chosen by Fate then his actions would be righteous and the awful things he experienced were stepping stones. Like a child learning to take responsibility and step out of the shadow of their parents, in this too he would have to take ownership for his place in the world. He would be thinking about this a lot in the coming days. All of this information was invaluable. Why did Mori choose to follow him if she knew all this? There was no way she didn't know how he viewed himself and the world before this conversation or the mistakes he had made. Was it thanks to opportunities that the Great Flow gave him that he was able to seduce her to his side? No. Mori already knew what was going to happen. She knew the future more clearly than what the waves could show. She knew him and his methods as well. She knew that the Kou Fleet had been on it's way. That meant Mori would have been deciding where she wanted to go and weighing her options from the beginning. Mori made her decision, gave him a slow drip feed of what she was capable of, and made sure each request he had of her was given a price. She wasn't just withholding her help due to a lack of trust; she was leading him to make the best possible offer. She knew that he would try to bring her to his side if he knew her value. He had played into her hands not the other way around. Why didn't this realization upset him? This new information wasn't going to stop him from achieving his dream. In fact, now that he had a better idea of how the Great Flow worked he could consciously use it to his advantage. He got what he wanted and it was mutual -not simply Fate. They both wanted this. This was making him excited. The smile on her face was one he recognized. He had worn it when he was young whenever he had convinced others to his side. Mori was cut from the same cloth. She had agreed to have this conversation not just because of Ja'far's insistence; she was after the opportunity to clear up his misunderstanding about Fate. ((plz ignore that I forgot to draw my freckles in most of the shots and am too lazy to fix it.))

happy birthday to yoongi
You first saw him in the multi-purpose room. Later learn his name, and on your third year, as he becomes your neighbor, you discover his lifestyle. Knowing your crush on him was nothing but that, you wanted to find the courage to look for love. Asking your friend for help, you’re pointed in the direction of the expert. Your neighbor, Min Yoongi
Chapter Index
You lie in bed staring up at the ceiling as the tips of your fingers brush along your lips. You can’t stop the smile growing as you remember the kiss. How he brought his lips to yours, taking you by surprise for a moment before your eyes flutter to a close and feel his lips move along yours. It fits perfectly with yours; soft, warm and sending butterflies in your stomach. You felt the fireworks and the rapid beating of your heart—it’s completely different from Hanbin. You toss to your side, burying your face in your hands as you feel the blush creep along your cheeks. You love him. You told him confidently that day and you have no regrets.
So what does that mean for the two of you? Are you a couple? You thought the same thing with Hanbin, but it wasn’t until he asked you to be his girlfriend that you learned you two were just dating for a few weeks. Ari even told you that everyone starts dating to test the waters before they decide if they want to be official or not. So, you’re not a couple with Yoongi. Unless he has a different view on what official means and that kiss makes you a couple? But it also might not be that. Maybe it’ll only be a kiss and that’s it. You’ll never know what it’s like to date him and you’ll be alone the rest of your school year and find some old dude to be your lover because you’ve only loved Yoongi since then.
“Oh my God I’m scaring myself,” you mutter to yourself, sitting up. You have to talk to him. You have to ask him if what happened that day means something more to him like it does for you. Climbing out of bed, you slip on your shoes and step up to your door, hand outstretched towards the handle. But you can't bring yourself to grasp it. Your hand idles, thoughts fighting against each other before you’re back in bed. “I’m not going. I’ll wait it out.” You’re under your cover, hiding from reality.
So much for thinking you’re a new person with so much confidence.
“You’re such a wimp.”
“I am not!” you defend, but you know she’s right. Ari is one hundred percent right today, but you don’t want to admit it out loud.
“Yes you are. Now grow a pair of bigger boobs and go ask him!” She shoves you towards the door, but her push is barely strong enough to nudge you.
It’s been almost a week since you had your kiss with Yoongi, and your last talk with him, too. He’s been unreachable—always at school or too busy to even give Hoseok the time of day. You’re thinking it’s because he has an important assignment coming up, but then you’re also thinking he’s having second thoughts about the kiss. He never said anything to you that day after the kiss. He told you he needed to focus on his work and you left. Nothing was said. Nothing is ever said when it comes to him.
Why do you like him again?
“I’ll do it later,” you whine, stomping your feet like a child as you climb into bed instead.
You can see her staring daggers at you as she stands in the middle of the room with her arms crossed over her chest. You can see she’s thinking of something, but you don’t know what. Finally, she says, “You have a week to talk to him. If you don’t, I’ll go over there and ask him myself.” You can’t help but open your mouth in shock. Did she really just— “Got it?” she says, rather than asks. Groaning, you toss your blanket off you and slide off your bed, grabbing your backpack on your desk chair and slip on your shoes. “Where are you going?” she asks as you turn the handle to open the door.
“To study on campus,” you half yell, opening the door, heading out of the room.
You're about halfway down the hall when you hear your dorm room close and open again with Ari yelling, "You better not forget what I said!"
No words are said from you as you push the side door open and head down the flight of stairs. You almost trip from the frustration Ari gave you, but you catch yourself and take careful strides down the rest of the steps. No one is really outside today—no one is heading towards the bus stop to take the fifteen minute drive towards campus. Maybe you'll have time to calm down in the shuttle and prepare yourself for a test that's weeks away.
You just needed to get out of the room and away from Ari's unnecessary glares. Reaching the sidewalk, the shuttle has just pulled to a stop. It seems like you'll have to wait fifteen or thirty minutes before the vehicle will take you to the campus. As the doors open, a few people exit the large, white bus—one of them being Yoongi who notices you immediately. You can feel your heartbeat quicken, the butterflies fluttering in your stomach in an instant. You don't understand how he can cause such chaos within you, but he does it every time you see him. You can imagine the kiss so clearly. His soft lips brushing along yours, thumbs running across your skin leaving a hot trail behind.
He's looking at you expectantly as the rest of the passengers leave along with the driver towards the buildings. It's not as obvious for you as it is for him, but you realize your mouth is open as if you're going to say something. Your body betrays you rather quickly before your brain can even comprehend what you're doing. Yet, he continues to wait there for a few more seconds before he turns his attention ahead of him and he starts towards his room.
"Um," you begin, seeing him stop in your peripheral, "I was wondering..." Wow you're struggling. Where did all that confidence you had when he kissed you go? Where did the ‘don't think just do’ motto go? Swallowing the lump in your throat, you turn to face him. "What are we exactly." Okay. You said it. Now the ball is in his court.
He's staring at you with a look you can never read, eyes blankly staring and mouth set tightly. Is what you thought about earlier really true? Was it just testing out the waters? Does he not like you? Why are you always right?
"What do you want us to be?" he asks.
You blink once. Twice. Just trying to comprehend what he just said and double checking with yourself to make sure what you heard is right. "What?" you ask, not wanting to answer just in case you did hear wrong.
He takes several steps towards you until he's a few inches away, his cedar wood cologne invading your senses as he repeats himself, his warm, minty breath fanning your face, "What do you want us to be?"
Okay he’s close. He’s super close. You can see the flecks of light brown swimming in his darker brown colored eyes. Taking in a deep breath, you answer, “I want to be more than what we are.” You said it. You did it—oh God you said it. What’s he going to say?
“Friends?” is his response to your statement.
Is he testing you? Is that what he thinks you mean? You shake your head nevertheless. “More than friends,” you mumble, feeling smaller than you did when you first opened your mouth.
He watches you. Searching for something you don’t know of. You can’t help but squirm, eyes shooting down to his black shirt as he looks at you for a moment. Finally, he answers, “Okay.” Your gaze is back to his again, shock clearly visible on your face. “If that’s what you want,” he adds.
“Is that what you want?” you ask him.
He hums in response before he slowly leans in. Your breath catches in your throat as you see him get closer and closer before you close your eyes and wait. You’re going to kiss him again. You’re going to feel his warm, soft lips against your own— “The bus is coming,” he mumbles, and your eyes shoot open, head quickly turning to look behind you. The bus has its left blinker on as it slowly gets onto the road. You’re quickly running past him, never saying your ‘goodbyes’ as you run as fast as you can to the stop before the bus drives past it. To your luck, you make it before the bus does. As quickly as possible, you dig through your backpack for your bus pass as the bus driver notices you and pulls over and comes to a stop in front of you.
The doors open and you smile gratefully as you step onto the vehicle. “Hello,” you tell him, taking in a deep breath after running the short distance suddenly. He greets you as you press your card to the scanner, hearing the satisfied beep, and make your way down the aisle and take the window seat just in front of the second door at the center of the bus. You’re putting your card back into your backpack when you hear the scanner go off, indicating that another person barely made it. The bus jerks forward as you zip your backpack up and someone sits next to you.
You look at the figure in surprise and realize it’s Yoongi. He settles into his seat, eyes forward as the bus skips the second stop, turning right onto the first cross. "Let's go on a date," he says, finally turning his attention on you. He looks so calm when he says it while it's most likely clear that you're in complete shock. "What do you have to do today?" he asks.
"I...um"—you swallow the lump in your throat—"I'm going to fill in my study guide for my test in a few weeks," you answer, hiding your hands under your backpack to clutch the straps tightly. Your heart is racing so hard right now.
"Let's go on a date after."
"I don't know how long it'll take for me to finish..."
"I'll wait," he replies as he looks ahead, seemingly not wanting to hear any more excuses.
For the rest of the ride you're lost in your thoughts on the entire scenario that played out within the last ten minutes. You try to hide the smile playing on your face, so you look out the window. The ride towards school is a quick one, only one stop was made before it comes to a stop at the final destination on campus and you follow Yoongi off the bus, walking out the door behind you.
You let out a shaky breath, trying to calm your excitement as you cross the small road and head towards the library entrance. The two of you are walking side by side down the pathway until you finally reach the building entrance. The outdoor seating is empty as Yoongi opens the glass door for you to enter first. You shyly thank him and enter inside. Pressing your hand to your chest, you feel the beating of your heart as if Yoongi being a gentleman is foreign to you. He’s done it before, but now it’s real in a sense. It’s not practice for you like it was before—it’s genuine. Yoongi is back at your side, and reaching the elevator lobby, you enter the stairwell and head down the stairs to the lower level study area.
Yoongi follows in tow, walking quietly as the two of you enter the rather empty room and you take the table under the skylight where the sun shines through the clouds and trees. Taking a seat, you try your best to hide the blush creeping when Yoongi sits next to you. And so, you try your best to focus on your study guide while Yoongi messes with his phone.
It's been a few hours when you finally finish answering all the questions. You put the guide away in your notebook, close it as well as your textbook and finally turn to Yoongi. He has one hand outstretched before him while the other is tucked under his head as he sleeps. You're lost in awe as you admire his beauty. He looks so peaceful; lips slightly parted, the tips of his jet black hair lie along his eyelids, and you can faintly see his back rise and fall with each breath he takes.
Your heart swells and you can't help but raise a hand and let your fingers brush the strands of his hair away from his eyes. His hair is softer than you thought it would be. Your hand lingers in his hair, brushing the strands away further back from his face before his eyes slowly open. Your hand is immediately back at your side, the color to your cheeks turning pink as you try and pretend you’re just packing up rather than staring at him for a few minutes.
From your peripheral you can see Yoongi slowly sit up, stretching his arms before rubbing the sleep from his eyes. “Are you done?” he asks, voice croaky and gravelly.
“Y-yeah.” You stutter, packing everything into your backpack. You’re clearly not looking calm with a few papers falling from the stack as you’re trying to put it in your binder, or your zipper getting stuck when you try to open your backpack, or even your hair continuously falling into your face no matter how many times you push it back, but either he doesn’t notice or he’s pretending not to. “Uh.” You clear your throat. “Did you still want to…”
“You hungry?” he asks, saving you the struggle of trying to finish your sentence. You hum in response, letting out a quiet breath. It’s hard to play off like you’re not internally panicking. He rises to his feet, and you do the same, holding your bag in one hand. “Let’s go eat,” he voices, pushing his chair in and waits for you to follow before the two of you head upstairs.
As you step out into the crisp, Saturday afternoon air, the once blue sky is gone and replaced with gray clouds. You slip your arms through the straps of your backpack as you put it on, attention turning to Yoongi as he tells you, “Let’s have sushi.” You agree, already imagining the taste of the rolls you’re going to consume as the two of you head in the direction of the food court. Yoongi walks alongside you, the two of you walking in a comfortable silence. It’s something you’re not used to in all honesty. He usually walks ahead when the two of you go somewhere together, and the rest of the time you’re trying your best to keep up. Now, however, he’s keeping at your pace and it makes your chest flutter and a smile trying desperately to appear on your face. You’ve never felt so happy and nervous at the same time.
Reaching the food court, you see a few people sitting scattered at the tables working on their assignments or chatting with their friends. You follow Yoongi towards the Japanese stand where the line is empty. When you reach the register, the man smiles and asks, “What would you like to order?” Yoongi says his order then looks towards you. After a few blinks of confusion, you realize he wants you to add your order in as well. Telling the man your order, he totals up and takes Yoongi’s card who had it out already before you could even dig in your backpack for yours.
You find a table at the corner of the building, isolated from everyone else. You take a seat against the wall while he takes the chair across from you. “You’re nervous,” he comments after a few seconds of silence. You open your mouth to answer, yet nothing is said. You close your mouth and look away in embarrassment. You finally have him, but you can’t help but feel like you don’t. That this could all be a dream. “Are you having second thoughts?”
You shake your head, suddenly all the words spilling, “I want to be with you. I just never expected for it to happen and I’m just…a mess.”
He watches you for a second before saying, “Okay.” His name is called and he leaves to retrieve your food.
While the two of you eat, no words were really said. You can’t think of anything to say, and Yoongi seems to be distracted with his food. It takes about halfway being done with your plate that he finally strikes up a conversation. Sadly it’s about your summer, so you had to do a lot of dodging when it came to Hanbin. Would he get jealous? Angry? Will he ask what happened between the two of you? You’re not sure, but you’re not going to find out right now.
During his summer, Yoongi tells you he spent most of his time working at his shop, mastering his producing skills, and hanging out with Hoseok when they’re both free. “A simple summer,” he explains, placing a roll in his mouth.
When the two of you finish, you feel satisfied and happier to have spent a calming date with Yoongi. You remember the last time he took you out on one—well a practice one, but the two of you argued and the whole date was ruined. This one’s real, and so much better than any date you’ve been on. Throwing your box in the trash, you head out the building only to be met with heavy rain. You stand under the awning with the rain pouring and the campus empty as far as the eye can see. Yoongi sighs, “Guess we’re running.” Turning to look at him, he does the same before his hand grabs yours and pulls you out from under the awning, the two of you running.
You cut through the Psychology building, getting a bit of protection from the rain before you’re running along the road towards the bus stop. You try your best to shield your eyes from the rain, but nothing you do helps, so you rely on Yoongi to lead the way. Your legs are burning by the time you reach the bus stop, the two of you hiding under the bus shelter with heavy breaths. Looking around you notice that no one is around. You’re guessing everyone left before the rain hit while you were oblivious to the possibility of it coming. You should have brought an umbrella or—
Yoongi cups your cheeks softly, bringing your attention to him. Looking at him you take in his features. The tips of his hair stick to his forehead, drops of water fall from it, his mouth slightly parted as his pants become lesser. No matter how he looks, he will always take your breath away.
“I want to know that when I wake up tomorrow, I can see you and hold you without thinking this is a dream. I want to be more than friends, too.”
You’d think you would have so much to say from his confession, but nothing comes to mind. So, you repeat what he said hours ago when you told him what you wanted, “Okay.” You’re surprised, and it may be evident on your face as you watch his eyes dart from side to side as if he’s searching for something you don’t know. You try your best to let him know that you want this, that you want to be with him more than anything, and you can only hope it gets through to him. It seems like it does as his eyes stop searching and he’s looking at you with a calm, confident look as he leans in, eyes closing and his lips gently press to yours.
Your eyes come to a close as you kiss him back, feeling that unfamiliar, yet wonderful sensation you felt when he kissed you the first time—the fireworks, the dozens of butterflies swarming your stomach, and your heart racing faster than when Hanbin kissed you for the first time. Warmth over takes the cold as your lips brush along with familiarity, as if the two of you kissed a thousand times before. You want to enjoy the kiss for as long as you can, but he pulls back lightly, his warm breath blanketing your lips. Opening your eyes, you can see his soft gaze staring at you for a brief second before he kisses you one more time as the sound of a vehicle comes to a stop in front of you.
You feel like you’re on cloud nine, like nothing in this world could break you down right now. The feeling of his kiss lingers on your lips, and you want nothing more than to lean forward and kiss him again. You just want to be lost in his lips.
As the two of you separate from one another, the shuttle doors open and the two of you quickly get in. Taking a seat at the back, you sit next to the window and Yoongi beside you, taking your hand in his as he settles further into his seat and closes his eyes.
You’ve never enjoyed a bus ride as much as you do right now, feeling his thumb brush along your skin as the driver comes and goes at the next two stops, no one else enters the shuttle. The rain continues to pour from outside, creating small puddles on certain parts of the street with cars zooming over them and creating a splash. Music is playing over the speaker, a faint soothing song against the overpowering rain and cars zooming by.
A while later the shuttle comes to a stop in front of the entrance to your dorm building, Yoongi’s eyes open and he gets up from his seat, your hand still in his as he leads you out of the vehicle. You thank the driver before the two of you are running across the parking lot and up the flight of stairs to the second floor door. You hide from the rain as Yoongi fishes out from his pocket his ID and presses it to the scanner. A beep is heard and he opens the door, letting you enter first.
Walking down the hallway, you stop at your door, turning to Yoongi. He tucks your hair back behind your ear as he instructs, “Go get warm before you catch a cold.” You nod. “I’ll see you later.”
As he turns to enter his room you grab his hand. He turns back around. “We’re a couple,” you say, your statement not sounding like a question like you wanted. He nods in response. “You’re my boyfriend,” you mutter, nervous for his answer.
He chuckles, a smile you’ve never seen before appearing on his face. You forget how to breathe as you stare in awe at his simple yet bright smile. “I am.” He steps forward and places a kiss on your forehead. “Go inside,” he tells you, and you let his hand go and do as instructed. Pressing your ID to the scanner, he whispers, “Goodnight.” and you enter your room, the biggest smile on your face with cheeks as flushed as they can be.
Ari drops everything she’s doing and listens to you as you tell her about the greatest date of your life.

march 1858.
a visitor you never expected; a day you will never forget.
pairing: joseon king!yoongi x reader genre: fluff words: 1.3k contains: historical au, child!yoongi, softness historical context: korean tradition dictates that people age up at the start of the new year (Jan 1), not on their actual birthday. traditionally, they also add an extra year as they consider the baby 1 year old at birth, not 0 years old. a/n: this drabble is sponsored by a donation to Black Lives Matter.
moonlit throne index. this is drabble four. start from the beginning?
For the entire week leading up to March 9th, as it has been for the past eight years, the palace lights up with an anticipatory hum, a buzz of excitement. Queen Jeonghui is in especially high spirits as she oversees the thorough cleaning of the grand hall and the preparation of the customary celebratory dishes, made with lavish ingredients especially imported from foreign traders. For the eunuchs, the guards, and all the palace occupants, it’s a relief to see the queen so pleased after what had happened a few months prior. Even as she cradles her left arm, hidden by a swath of silk, the smile never leaves her lips as she thinks of the prince and his impending, official tenth birthday.
You don’t pay much attention to the festivities. Or to be more accurate, you don’t have time to. As much as you’d like to pretend, the decorations aren’t for you. Anyhow, your mother has been overwhelmed with work lately as one of the few uinyeo in the palace, and as the head of them all. You are but a fledging apprentice, still learning how to diagnose and properly treat the illnesses that so easily strike the ladies of the court. If only the male physicians could ease your mother’s burden. But social convention must be followed. Even tonight, on Prince Yoongi’s official birthday, she cannot join the feast even though she has been invited personally by the queen.
“Mom, Da-ri-nim’s cramping has gone down,” you report happily, steps a little lighter as you walk over to where mother is hunched over an assortment of herbs. She’s crushing ingredients together with a mortar and pestle.
“Oh? That’s wonderful.” Mother brushes away a few strands of hair from her face. “She should be stable for the rest of the night, but we should keep an eye on her.”
“To make sure she doesn’t bleed too much?”
She smiles. “That’s exactly right.”
“Is the new medicine done yet?”
“Almost there.”
You lean against the desk, watching how the small pot of water simmers above the fire. “I reeaally hope this one works.”
“Me too. The extra amount of mugwort should be effective. Do you remember its effects?”
“Hmm. Most useful for thinning blood, increasing circulation, and…” You look hopefully at her. “Relieving muscle pain?”
Much to your relief, she nods, pride swelling in her chest. “Smart girl.”
The music outside does a crescendo then, notes floating through the cracks of the doors with sounds of laughter. The drums pound out a practiced beat, seeming to shake the ground itself with revelry. You’ve seen the dancers practicing out in the courtyard a few days earlier, and you can only imagine how lovely they must look now, all dressed up in handcrafted skirts and gauzy scarves. You wish you could see it! You’ve always loved to dance. Used to try on mom’s only fancy pink hanbok even though it was much too big for you, then spin round and round and round in front of the mirror to watch the skirt float. She’d scolded you harshly after: how could you possibly dirty or ruin a present from the king himself?! The first gift she had ever earned for her essential help with delivering the precious crown prince. But there are always more dances and performances. This is more important, and that’s okay too.
“We’ll go next year.” Mother says as if she can read your mind (or maybe you’re just bad at hiding your disappointment). “I promise.”
Before you can respond, the door slides open.
“Su-uinyeo-nim!”
“What’s wrong?”
One of the newer eunuchs stands in the frame, his face pale. “A dancer has collapsed! We didn’t want to move and bring her here, so please come with me!” He bows quickly, fingers twisted in the long folds of his sleeves.
“Understood.” Mother reaches aside for the parcel she keeps for emergencies. “Let it boil. Take care of the patients. We’re still going to celebrate after I get back, okay?” she says to you, then disappears with the eunuch.
You do as you’re told, checking on the women who lie on the beds. You replace the damp cloths on their foreheads that have become lukewarm with sweat, and help those who can up, so they can have some water. Many of them are recovering well from the ruthless winter sickness that swept through a whole group of maids; their fevers are mostly subsiding and coughs calming. Still, anything could happen.
When another noise comes from outside, you turn your head. Standing, you put one hand on the door handle and pull.
“Mom, did you forget—”
Your mouth drops slightly as you meet a dark gaze, one at your eye level and marred with a thin scar.
“W-Wangseja-jeonha!” You immediately drop into a bow, ninety degrees, with your back as straight as you can make it. You hold it for five long seconds. He’s still staring at you when you come up again. “M-May I ask why you are paying a visit here…?”
“I made Eunuch Kim sneak me away.” Despite his age, he sounds composed and mature, befitting a future king. He gestures casually beside him to where an exceedingly tall man stands, holding something covered with cloth. “Tray.”
Eunuch Kim steps forward, his cheek slightly indented from his polite smile as he takes away the covering to reveal a bowl, with silver utensils lying aside it. Steam rises immediately, transparent as it curls into the air alongside a comforting smell.
“This is…”
“Janchi guksu.” Celebratory noodles, which must have been brought directly from the feast. Undoubtedly prepared with the highest quality ingredients, and delicious. “It’s your birthday too, isn’t it?”
That was probably one of the last things you thought he’d say. Your heart squeezes; it’s a sort of weird, nervous glee at being unexpectedly seen. “T-That is—Yes! Oh, yes, it, it is!”
While you always thought it was fascinating coincidence to share the same birth date, you’d also long resigned to be overlooked by most in favor of him. Mother always brings you a new hairpin from town, and makes you savory seaweed soup in your own private celebration, and that’s enough. But now, to have the crown prince himself here! You haven’t seen him since that November night, and never this up close.
While his face remains impassive, it seems to soften at your smile. “Good. Then take this.”
You accept the tray that Eunuch Kim offers with grateful hands. You stare into the bowl with your heart pounding. “Can I ask… how did you know, seja-jeonha?”
“Mama told me.”
Your grin grows wider. Next to your mother, the queen has always been your role model. Kind, beautiful, and endlessly caring. Even that night, she had been willing to sacrifice herself for her son. And it seems the prince has learned compassion from the very best.
“I don’t know how to thank you. You didn’t have to trouble yourself, coming all this way.”
“Seja-jeonha. We only have a minute left,” the eunuch reminds in a soft voice.
The prince nods his acknowledgment. You expect him to walk away immediately, but he stays. “A king must protect and take care of his people. And… it’s a thank you. For that night.” He shifts his weight from one foot to another, almost nervous. “Eat well.” Only then does he stalk off with a swish of his opulent navy robes.
You stand there for a minute longer, watching him with admiration in your heart until your grumbling stomach makes you turn in.
Tonight, as the delicate noodles and light soup warm your body from the inside out, you make a promise to yourself. As you renew your fealty to the royal family, you add a new caveat, a second, private oath: unabridged loyalty to the crown prince, to the future king, to Min Yoongi himself.

So we meet again
This was an idea that popped into my head and I just had to write it, I’ve been having the worst writer’s block so I’m really glad this fic is helping me to break out of it, I hope you guys enjoy!
pairings: Poppy x Bea
there’s some swearing so just be mindful, also Poppy is in a hetero relationship (but dw it doesn’t last)
taglist: @cloud9in @somewillwin @baexpoppy @save-me-the-last-dance @helpconfusedpersonhere @dopeyouth @iamsimpforpoppy @alleycat97 @alexlabhont @thedaft1 (if anyone wants to be added or taken off my poppy taglist just let me know)
word count: 3.5k (its worth it i promise)
Poppy stares at herself in her compact mirror, carefully applying another coat of lipstick before puckering her lips and putting the mirror back in her bag. She runs a hand through her hair, smoothing down the baby hairs that stick up at the front, she always hated those little hairs. The car door suddenly opens and a hand appears stretched out waiting for the girl. Poppy slides her hand into the awaiting hand, sliding out of the car with the utmost grace, and once she’s out, she brings down her hands to smooth out the creases in her dress before turning to her partner with a smile.
“Thank you.”
“Of course,” he replies with a curt nod. He lifts his arm up and Poppy wraps her arm around it, “shall we?” They’re led inside the restaurant and into one of the more private tables near the back and handed a menu as they sit in their seats.
“Mmm, this is a nice place, how did you find it?” Poppy’s gaze darts around the room, appraising the lavish decor, a small smile on her lips.
“It recently opened up and a good friend of mine recommended it, I thought it would be the perfect place for our anniversary.” He gives Poppy a wide grin before taking her hand in his, placing a chaste kiss on her knuckles.
“Can I take your order?” The voice makes Poppy freeze in her seat, the familiarity of the smooth midwestern tone, washing all over her, she slowly raises her head to see Bea Hughes standing in front of the table, a pen and notebook in her hands as she looks expectedly at the couple. “Do you need more time?” Her tone is almost comical as she gives the strawberry blonde a small smirk.
“Bea Hughes,” Poppy says with feigned disinterest, “Why am I not surprised you’d end up in a job as dismal as a waitress.”
“Poppy!” her partner calls out, his tone slightly reprimanding, “I apologise.” His gaze flits between Bea and Poppy, discerning the tension between the two women, “I take it you know each other?” his hand gestures between Bea and Poppy.
“You could say something like that,” Bea retorts, her eyes twinkling impishly, Poppy scoffs and awkwardly glances down, busying herself by turning her attention to the menu in front of her. “We were college friends.”
“We weren’t friends,” Poppy bluntly states, as she glances up, raising an eyebrow at the girl. “We were merely...acquaintances.”
Bea bites back a retort before turning her attention to Poppy’s companion, “Sorry I haven’t caught your name yet,” she raises her hand towards the gentleman who takes her hand giving her a sturdy handshake.
“Darren.”
Bea glances at Poppy, a hint of amusement in her face, “Darren.” She glances back at Darren, “And how do you know our dear Poppy?”
“I’m her boyfriend.”
Bea’s eyebrows shoot up, “boyfriend? Huh.” She looks at Poppy who looks like she’s a couple of seconds from exploding as her cheeks flush with an intense red.
“Can we place our order now?” Darren inquires, his tone slightly agitated as he gives Bea a small smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. Bea clears her throat before plastering a smile on her face.
“Of course, what would you guys like?”
“I’ll have the beef bourguignon and Miss Min Sinclair will have the parmesan risotto with roasted shrimp.” Bea raises a subtle eyebrow, surprised at the forwardness of Poppy’s boyfriend but even more so from Poppy’s submissiveness. “Oh also a bottle of your finest wine, I don’t care about the price.”
Bea expertly hides her annoyance, “of course, I’ll have someone bring that to you.”
A couple of hours go by as Bea watches from afar while Poppy clinks her glass with Darren’s, a boisterous laugh coming out of her as she engages in conversation with him. Bea watches with a frown, her eyes narrowed as she assesses Poppy’s demeanour, the strawberry blonde’s back is abnormally straight, her posture expertly rigid. She abruptly stands and makes her way towards the bathroom. Bea finds her opportunity and follows Poppy, confronting the strawberry blonde.
“Stalking me now?” Poppy says, her tone unfazed as she fixes her makeup in the mirror, not even bothering to spare a glance at Bea.
“It’s been what three, four years and that’s all you can say to me?” Bea hides the hurt in her voice as her eyes find Poppy’s in the mirror.
“I don’t know what you want me to say Farmsville, I just want to enjoy a nice night out with my boyfriend.”
Bea snorts, “yeah you’re having such a great time,” she retorts, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
That seems to agitate Poppy as she turns to face Bea, her face scrunched into a scowl, “what the hell is that supposed to mean?”
Bea takes a careful step towards Poppy, “it means you don’t really like him.”
Poppy lets out an airy laugh, “oh because you know me so well?”
“Well enough to know he isn’t good enough for you.”
Poppy gapes her mouth open slightly, startled at the intensity of Bea’s admission. She quickly masks her surprise by snapping back, “and you think you are? Please I have higher standards than wanting to mess around with a waitress.”
“Actually…” Bea smirks at Poppy, “I own the place.” She steps closer to Poppy, keeping a safe distance from the strawberry blonde but close enough to almost feel the heat radiate from her body.
“What?” Poppy splutters, she shakes her head with skepticism, “you’re lying.”
“You wanna see the certificate? Did you not once wonder why I’m wearing a fancy suit and everyone else is just wearing a shirt and trousers?”
“I-” Poppy says stunned. Her expression turns to slight anger, brows furrowing together, “so why the hell did you serve my table?”
Bea shrugs her shoulders nonchalantly, which frustrates Poppy even more, “I don’t know, guess I wanted to see how you would react when you see me. I mean didn’t the restaurant name give you any indication? Digne d'une reine,” Bea says with an exaggerated french accent.
“Fit for a queen,” Poppy whispers as she looks up at Bea, her expression softening, “you remembered.”
“I never forgot,” Bea says, her voice low as she leans in, her eyes searching Poppy’s, awaiting for her permission. Poppy bites her lip slightly before pressing her lips against Bea’s. The kiss quickly grows fervent as Bea’s hands slip around Poppy’s waist pulling her closer while Poppy’s arms snake around Bea’s neck. The bathroom door suddenly opens and the two women pull apart, quickly composing themselves.
“I need to go,” Poppy whispers as she promptly trudges out of the bathroom, not daring to look back at Bea. Bea watches as Poppy stalks over to the table, hastily whispering in Darren’s ear as he gets up from his seat. Poppy throws a couple of hundreds on the table and walks out of the restaurant. Bea feels a pang in her heart as Poppy walks out of her life once again, unable to stop her once again.
…..
A couple of days later, Bea sits in Zoey’s apartment, recalling the night she saw Poppy as Zoey listens intently, a worried look on her face.
“Bea you already know what I’m going to say,” Zoey says, a sharpness in her tone.
“It’s different now, we’ve both grown up,” Bea responds, defensively.
“She broke your heart before and you guys weren’t even dating.”
“Not officially but there was something there,” Zoey raises her eyebrow dubiously earning a sigh from Bea. “Zoey this guy that she’s seeing is a total douche.”
“Isn’t that her type?” Zoey jests.
“I’m serious Zo, when have you ever known Poppy not to speak for herself?”
“Never?” Zoey quickly replies.
“Exactly! This guy didn’t even let her order her own food.”
“Maybe because he knew what she wanted.”
“No,” Bea shakes her head, “he ordered her a risotto, a freaking risotto Zo.”
“Bea...Poppy Min Sinclair is like a black hole, don’t let her suck you back into her life like this, okay it took you ages to get over her.”
Bea sighs defeatedly, “you don’t need to worry, I don’t think I’ll see her ever again.” A noticeable sadness swims in Bea’s eyes and Zoey can’t help but feel a pang of worry in her chest. Wordlessly, she wraps her arms around Bea and pulls her in for a comforting hug.
Bea’s phone buzzes pulling her out of the moment as she reaches out to check her messages, “anyone important?”
“Crap,” Bea sniffles wiping away the tears in her eyes, “someone hired us last minute to cater for an event tonight and I have to oversee it.”
Zoey unwraps her arms, and gives Bea a small pat on her back, “remember, no more thinking about Poppy.”
Bea nods and plasters a smile on her face, “no more Poppy.”
…..
Bea oversees the caters, giving out orders as they prepare dinner while the rest of the guests settle inside the hall, she fixes the strap of her dress as walks into the hall and assesses the tables making sure all of them have a basket of bread on them.
“What the fuck Farmsville, do I need a restaining order?”
Bea sighs before facing the strawberry blonde, her mind flashing back to the memory of them kissing a couple of days ago, and she feels the heat rising to her cheeks. “I’m not following you Pops.”
“Then what the fuck at you doing here?” Poppy conspicuously looks around the room, hoping no one has noticed the altercation between her and Bea.
“I was hired to cater for this event Pops,” Bea says her tone flat as she remembers Zoey’s words of not letting Poppy back into her life. “I’m just doing my job, don’t worry I’ll stay away.” Bea sees an anguished expression flash across Poppy’s face before she replaces it with a trained blank look. Before Bea can help herself, she finds her eyes wandering down Poppy’s body, taking in the dress she’s wearing and how perfectly it fits around her body.
A cat-like smirk appears on Poppy’s face as she watches the girl appraise her, “see something you like?”
Bea snaps her gaze back up to Poppy, a sheepish smile on her face, “sorry,” she mumbles out, “I’m just surprised.”
Poppy raises an eyebrow, “surprised?”
“Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever seen you not wearing pink.”
“Right,” Poppy smooths down her black dress, “well black usually alludes power and authority and I need that for tonight if I’m going to impress these investors tonight. And I’m wearing my lucky pink underwear.” Realising what she’s just said, Poppy’s eyes widen as she takes a step back from Bea, “I should get back.”
“Uh right, okay,” Bea says softly as Poppy gives Bea a curt nod before walking away, joining her boyfriend at the head table. “Great going Bea,” she whispers dejectedly to herself before fixating her attention on just trying to get through the rest of the night.
Poppy is almost like a beacon, drawing in all sorts of audiences as she entices the guests with her business knowledge while her boyfriend stays by her side, practically attached to her. Poppy and Bea share a few glances but whenever they make eye contact they both awkwardly glance away. While the guests are eating, Bea slips away to take her break, making her way to the balcony, grateful it’s empty. She pulls a single cigarette from her packet before putting it between her lips. Once she puts the lighter down, she takes a huge huff, attempting to subdue all the stress of tonight.
“I didn’t take you for a smoker,” a voice calls out from behind her, Bea doesn’t need to look back to know it’s Poppy.
“Well I try not to make a habit out of it, only smoke when I’m stressed.” Poppy saunters over to Bea and lifts her hand up expectantly, Bea raises an eyebrow before pulling the cigarette out of her mouth placing it in Poppy’s hand. “Didn’t take you for a smoker either.”
Poppy takes a large inhale, before blowing the smoke out, she keeps her eyes trained on the view of the city, “only smoke when I’m stressed.” In her peripheral vision, Bea can see a hint of a smile on Poppy’s lips and she feels the butterflies in her stomach.
“So… how’s life been since Belvoire?”
“Is this your attempt at small talk?” Poppy cynically replies.
“Just want to know how you’ve been.”
Poppy sighs, “alright I’ll take the bait,” she puckers her lips as if she’s in deep thought before answering, “I’m slowly taking over my father’s empire, travelled a bit and..” she trails off.
“And you met Darren,” Bea snidefully adds.
“And I met Darren.” Poppy turns her head to glance at Bea, “you don’t like him,” she says as a statement.
“Just wondering how you guys met I guess, I mean he’s good looking or whatever but a total snob.”
“Didn’t you think I was a snob too?”
“I still do, extremely presumptuous too,” that comment elicits a small chuckle from Poppy, “but he seems like an ass. I’ve been watching the way he’s been treating my staff tonight, let’s just say they’re purposely sabotaging his food.”
“He wasn’t always like this you know, when we first met he was the sweetest guy. I didn’t really like him that much but he kept surprising me and eventually I agreed to go out with him.” Poppy gazes down at the mostly burnt out cigarette, she throws it onto the floor, squashing it with her heel before looking at Bea, “I guess it’s only fitting I ask too, how’s life been for you?”
Bea sharply inhales, “good, I mean I own two restaurants-”
“Wait two? What’s the second?”
“You’re going to make fun of me.”
“I probably will but tell me anyway,” Poppy jests, her grin widens as she relaxes more in Bea’s presence.
“It’s a diner downtown, I named it Farmsville.”
Poppy lets out a laugh, one that seems more genuine than the chuckles she’s been letting out tonight, “seriously?”
“I’m dead serious,” Bea responds, her own smile widening as she laughs along with the strawberry blonde, “the tagline is a little taste of home.”
“So both of your restaurants’ names revolve around me?” Poppy raises a playful eyebrow at the girl but Bea doesn’t answer, she just gives Poppy a small wink before swiftly changing the subject.
“How are Veronica and Chloe?”
“Well V actually managed to become a big time influencer, we see each other from time to time when she’s in New York. Chloe on the other hand,” Poppy trails off, “she’s decided to go into fashion.”
“Why do you say that like she’s made a bad decision?”
“Well her eye for style isn’t exactly the best, she always comes up with the most ludacris stuff, like old Lady Gaga style stuff.”
Bea lets out an airy laugh, “let’s hope no one’s shown her the iconic meat dress.”
“How’s new money?”
“Zoey,” Bea enunciates as she gives Poppy a look, “is great, we see each other regularly since she has a studio in New York. I just hung out with her a couple of days ago.”
“Oh?” Poppy says indifferently.
“Yep, I told her about you.”
Poppy raises an eyebrow at Bea, “what exactly did you tell her?”
“Just how we bumped into each other,” she sees the worry flash across Poppy’s face, “don’t worry I didn’t tell her about our kiss.”
“Bea..don’t.”
“We kissed Pops, you can’t pretend it didn’t happen.”
“Bea stop,” Poppy commandly says, a tinge of anger in her tone, “I have a boyfriend and I’m building something here, you can’t just-”
“Just what? There was something between us Pops.”
Poppy puts a hand up cutting Bea off, her gaze trained to the floor, “Bea it was just sex, you thought it was something more and then got hurt when I broke it off.”
Bea scoffs, “is that you’ve been telling yourself all these years? That it was just sex?” The pain in Bea’s voice is explicit, she doesn’t hold herself back. “Maybe it was sex at first but there was something there, I didn’t imagine it.” Poppy presses her lips together in a thin line, still unable to meet Bea’s gaze. “What about the nights you’d ask me to stay so I could hold you, or the nights we’d talk about our hopes and dreams. Just because we weren’t officially dating doesn’t mean feelings weren’t involved. You were just a coward and you ran away.”
That seems to spur Poppy as her gaze snaps to Bea, a fire burning in her eyes, “I’m a coward?”
“If it didn’t mean anything to you, look me in my eyes right now and tell me that it was just meaningless sex, that all those nights we spent together meant nothing to you and I swear Poppy I’ll walk away right now and I’ll let you go.”
Poppy stares intensely into Bea’s, she sees the hurt mixed in with fear as she feels a pang in her own heart, “I-”
“Bea? There’s an issue with the desserts,” the voice calls out to them, jerking the two girls away from each other.
“Thanks Cass, I’ll be there in a minute.” The worker gives Bea a nod before heading back into the hall, “I guess that’s my break over,” Bea looks over at Poppy to see her expression abashed, “I’ll see you around I guess.” Bea leaves through the balcony doors and for the first time Poppy watches Bea walk away from her.
After a few moments, Poppy pulls herself together, she breathes in the crisp air letting it settle into her lungs, as she plasters on a wide smile before entering the hall again. She makes a beeline for her table and when she settles in, Darren wraps his arm around her, before whispering in her ear, “where the hell were you?” although he has a smile on his face, his tone is full of malice.
Poppy gulps slightly, before whispering back, “I just needed some air.”
“So why do you smell of smoke?”
Something in Poppy seems to snap and when she faces Darren her eyes are blazing with fury, “I don’t know who the fuck you think you are but you’re not my damn keeper,” her voice reverterbrates slightly, capturing the attention of the people on her table. “I know you’re only using me for my father’s approval, but I’m a Min fucking Sinclair, I don’t need anyone especially you trying to tell me how to live my life. I’ve been on top my entire life and I don’t intend ever letting anyone take that from me, especially not a self pompous ass who doesn’t care about anyone but himself.” Darren’s face goes completely pale as he watches Poppy leave, unable to utter a single syllable.
Poppy leaves through the back in order to avoid the looks and whispers of the guests but as she opens the door she comes face to face to Bea who’s packing up a delivery truck. Bea looks over to see a haunted look on Poppy’s face and throws the box in her hands into the truck before approaching her.
“Pops, what’s wrong?”
“I’m done running away Bea, I’m done with trying to let people tell me how to live, I’m done with it.” She hesitantly reaches out to Bea, her hand just hovering over Bea’s, “you were right before, I was being a coward. I saw myself falling for you and I was scared that you would break my heart or I would do something to fuck it all up, so I ended whatever we had so we both couldn’t get hurt.” Her fingers lace with Bea’s as she looks up to her girl, her voice low, “I guess it was too late for that.” Poppy watches Bea’s expression closely, she watches as the girl’s brows furrow.
“Pops, you broke my heart.”
“I know.”
“You know how hard it was to get over you? I mean I know it’s stupid since we weren’t actually together but that’s how much of an effect you had on me, Poppy Min Sinclair.” She takes a step closer to the strawberry blonde cupping her cheeks with both hands, “the funny thing is, I don’t think I ever got over you, not completely.”
“I don’t think I did either, I know we were practically enemies at first but somewhere along the line that changed, and it scared the shit out of me.”
“It scared me too.” Bea leans in, her lips ghosting around Poppy’s, “I know it’s been years and we’ve probably grown and changed a lot since college but,” her eyes bore into Poppy’s as if she’s looking right into her very soul, “I want you.”
Bea presses her lips into Poppy’s, passion immediately building up in the kiss as Bea leads Poppy backwards, pushing her back up against the wall. Poppy moans, wrapping her arms around Bea’s neck pulling her even closer. Bea breaks the kiss and begins placing open mouthed kisses across Poppy’s jaw before taking the strawberry blonde’s earlobe in between her teeth, giving it a small bite. “God,” Poppy groans out, “stop with the foreplay farmsville.”
Poppy feels Bea breaking into a wide smile against the crook of her neck, “I guess some things don’t change.”

“The precious intimacy of little things.”
— Daphné du Maurier, I Will Never Be Young Again
“On my windowsill when I got home, there was a tumbler with pink jelly in it, and embedded in the jelly, sliced strawberries and bananas… [my neighbour] cooks at odd hours. She must have made the strawberry jelly this morning. When I buy baklava, which is not often because I eat too many, I leave a few for her on her windowsill, with a headscarf over them so the wasps don’t come. For these little gifts we don’t thank each other with words. They are commas of care.”
— John Berger, From A to X: A Story in Letters
“I suppose I could spend time theorizing how it is that people are not bad to each other, but that’s really not the point. The point is that in almost every instance of our lives, our social lives, we are, if we pay attention, in the midst of an almost constant, if subtle, caretaking. Holding open doors. Offering elbows at crosswalks. Letting someone else go first. Helping with the heavy bags. Reaching what’s too high, or what’s been dropped. Pulling someone back to their feet. Stopping at the car wreck, at the struck dog. The alternating merge, also known as the zipper. This caretaking is our default mode and it’s always a lie that convinces us to act or believe otherwise. Always.”
“One of the woman was gently arranging an older woman’s collar beneath her sweater, freeing it from the cardigan’s neck, using both of her hands to jostle it free but also seeming to spend a little more time than necessary, creasing the fold of the collar, the other hand kind of resting on her shoulder, the two of them chatting the whole time, sitting there holding each other, nodding, my head twisting toward them like a sunflower as I finished the stairs and walked by, so in love was I with this common flourish of love, this everyday human light.”
“but her need to share the photo with me [...] smiling and looking at it, smiling and looking at me looking at it, me smiling and looking at her looking at it, which is simply called sharing what we love, what we find beautiful, which is an ethics.”
— Ross Gay, The Book of Delights
“He’s got a fever. He’s all alone. So I’m gonna buy him something to eat.” “The congee downstairs is quite good.” “He doesn’t want congee.” “What does he want?” “Can’t taste anything so he wants sesame syrup.” [...] “What are you cooking?” “I had a sudden craving for sesame syrup.”
“Why did you call me at the office today?” “I had nothing to do. I wanted to hear your voice.”
— In the Mood for Love, dir. Wong Kar-Wai
— Danusha Laméris, “Small Kindnesses”
“It all matters. That someone turns out the lamp, picks up the windblown wrapper, says hello to the invalid, pays at the unattended lot, listens to the repeated tale, folds the abandoned laundry, plays the game fairly, tells the story honestly, acknowledges help, gives credit, says good night, resists temptation, wipes the counter, waits at the yellow, makes the bed, tips the maid, remembers the illness, congratulates the victor, accepts the consequences, takes a stand, steps up, offers a hand, goes first, goes last, chooses the small portion, teaches the child, tends to the dying, comforts the grieving, removes the splinter, wipes the tear, directs the lost, touches the lonely, is the whole thing. What is most beautiful is least acknowledged. What is worth dying for is barely noticed.”
— Laura McBride, We Are Called to Rise
“I’ve never told you this,” she said. “But there’s something about taking the cart back instead of leaving it in the parking lot. I don’t know when this came to me; it was a few years ago. There’s a difference between leaving it where you empty it and taking it back to the front of the store. It’s significant.” “Because somebody has to take them in.” “Yes. And if you know that, and you do it for that one guy, you do something else. You join the world…You move out of your isolation and become universal.”
— Andre Dubus, “Out of the Snow”
“It’s true that, in Vietnamese, we rarely say I love you, and when we do, it is almost always in English. Care and love, for us, are pronounced clearest through service: plucking white hairs, pressing yourself on your son to absorb a plane’s turbulence and, therefore, his fear. Or now—as Lan called to me, “Little Dog, get over here and help me help your mother.” And we knelt on each side of you, rolling out the hardened cords in your upper arms, then down to your wrists, your fingers. For a moment almost too brief to matter, this made sense—that three people on the floor, connected to each other by touch, made something like the word family.”
— Ocean Vuong, On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous: A Novel
— Ada Limón, from “The Great Blue Heron of Dunbar Road”
“I’m doing a balancing act with a stack of fresh fruit in my basket. I love you. I want us both to eat well.”
— Christopher Citro, from “Our Beautiful Life When It’s Filled WIth Shrieks”
“One of the primary ways we connect with each other is by eating together. Some of the connection happens simply by being in the same place at the same time and sharing the same food, but we also connect through specific actions, such as serving food to one another or making toasts: ‘May I offer you some potatoes?’ ‘Here’s to your health and happiness.’ Much of our fundamental well-being comes from the basic reassurance that there is a place for us at the table. We belong here. Here we are served and we serve others. Here we give and receive sustenance.”
— Edward Espe Brown, Tomato Blessings and Radish Teaching
“Attention is the beginning of devotion.”
“Now in the spring I kneel, I put my face into the packets of violets, the dampness, the freshness, the sense of ever-ness. Something is wrong, I know it, if I don’t keep my attention on eternity. May I be the tiniest nail in the house of the universe, tiny but useful. May I stay forever in the stream. May I look down upon the windflower and the bull thistle and the coreopsis with the greatest respect.”
“it is a serious thing
just to be alive on this fresh morning in this broken world.”
— Mary Oliver, Upstream: Selected Essays / from “Invitation”
— Wendy Cope, “The Orange”
“After learning my flight was detained 4 hours, I heard the announcement: if anyone in the vicinity of gate 4-A understands any Arabic, please come to the gate immediately. Well—one pauses these days. Gate 4-A was my own gate. I went there. An older woman in full traditional Palestinian dress, just like my grandma wore, was crumpled to the floor, wailing loudly. Help, said the flight service person. Talk to her. What is her problem? We told her the flight was going to be four hours late and she did this. I put my arm around her and spoke to her haltingly. Shu dow-a, shu-biduck habibti, stani stani schway, min fadlick, sho bit se-wee? The minute she heard any words she knew—however poorly used—she stopped crying. She thought our flight had been canceled entirely. She needed to be in El Paso for some major medical treatment the following day. I said no, no, we’re fine, you’ll get there, just late. Who is picking you up? Let’s call him and tell him. We called her son and I spoke with him in English. I told him I would stay with his mother until we got on the plane and would ride next to her—Southwest. She talked to him. Then we called her other sons just for the fun of it. Then we called my dad and he and she spoke for a while in Arabic and found out, of course, they had ten shared friends. Then I thought just for the heck of it why not call some Palestinian poets I know and let them chat with her. This all took up about 2 hours. She was laughing a lot by then. Telling about her life. Answering questions. She had pulled a sack of homemade mamool cookies—little powdered sugar crumbly mounds stuffed with dates and nuts—out of her bag—and was offering them to all the women at the gate. To my amazement, not a single woman declined one. It was like a sacrament. The traveler from Argentina, the traveler from California, the lovely woman from Laredo—we were all covered with the same powdered sugar. And smiling. There are no better cookies. And then the airline broke out the free beverages from huge coolers—non-alcoholic—and the two little girls from our flight, one African American, one Mexican American—ran around serving us all apple juice and lemonade, and they were covered with powdered sugar, too. And I noticed my new best friend—by now we were holding hands—had a potted plant poking out of her bag, some medicinal thing with green furry leaves. Such an old country traveling tradition. Always carry a plant. Always stay rooted to somewhere. And I looked around that gate of late and weary ones and thought, this is the world I want to live in. The shared world. Not a single person in this gate—once the crying of confusion stopped—has seemed apprehensive about any other person. They took the cookies. I wanted to hug all those other women, too. This can still happen anywhere. Not everything is lost.”
— Naomi Shihab Nye, “Gate A4″
“Then there are the things, if you are particularly lucky, that this person has done for you while you’re away: how in the pantry, in the freezer, in the refrigerator will be all the food you like to eat, the scotch you like to drink. There will be the sweater you thought you lost the previous year at the theater, clean and folded and back on its shelf. There will be the shirt with its dangling buttons, but the buttons will be sewn back in place. There will be your mail stacked on one side of his desk; there will be a contract for an advertising campaign you’re going to do in Germany for an Austrian beer, with his notes in the margin to discuss with your lawyer. And there will be no mention of it, and you will know that it was done with genuine pleasure, and you will know that part of the reason—a small part, but a part—you love being in this apartment and in this relationship is because this other person is always making a home for you, and that when you tell him this, he won’t be offended but pleased, and you’ll be glad, because you meant it with gratitude.”

Crown Prince Kim Taehyung - Records Journal entry of November 13th, 2020.
“Winter brings many things. Christmas, cold weather, presents and lastly; my birthday. Some would dread having a birthday so close to Christmas but I didn’t mind. There were more gifts and more to celebrate. However year after year, no one could seem to give me the ultimate Christmas gift. The one I’d been patiently waiting for, for years. Where, oh where...when, oh when will this dear thing I’ve lost, return to me?”
Y/N:
It’s going to be a tough one. Of course, they warned me of such things. Everyone did, even my own father. The half-assed grin he showed me this morning was enough to down my spirits, not that I’d ever let him know that.
With my block heels clicking as I walked up the stone stairs, my nerves were starting to get the best of me. I felt hot flashes hitting different parts of my body, and I regretted the thick black and white blazer I wore. Under the blazer, I wore a long-sleeve black blouse and some crimson red dress pants with flare bottoms.
My slim leather briefcase was slung over my shoulder by its longer strap and my cell phone was tucked snug in my pants pocket.
As if a higher power heard my cry, a gust of cold wind hit me, pushing my blazer open a bit. A small smile pulled at the corner of my lips, and I thanked the cold November air that was washing away the nervous sweats that were accumulating on my forehead.
The stairs weren’t that long, but it still felt like it was teetering on being too much. There were three sets of square double doors, the middle one being the larger one.
There were 4 guards, all standing guard with frowns on their lips. One of them spotted me, raising an eyebrow at me before his lips pulled up into a smile.
“Open the doors!” He shouts to the other guards, “It’s just Y/n.” He holds eye contact with me the whole time he’s announcing my presence to the other guards.
His eyes rank down my body, the lust in his eyes making no attempts at being subtle. I’m not in a mood to muster up a forced but polite smile. I only nod, watching as two other guards open the doors.
“Everyone said you were starting today.” The first guard said, taking a small step closer to me.
“Are they?” I spoke with no interest, “I didn’t think I’d be the talk of the palace.”
“Of course you are!” He chimes flashing a toothy grin, “Everyone is excited to see you go toe-to-toe with His Highness, Prince Taehyung.”
I rolled my eyes at his words, “I’m not here to go toe-to-toe with His Highness, I’m here to do a job.” I stated, taking a small step back to put more space between us. He smelt of cheap cologne, old spice deodorant, and breath mints.
My face cringed in a reaction as he opened his mouth to speak again, but I cut him off.
“You really shouldn’t be gossiping about the royal family, they can fire you for breathing too hard so tread lightly and know your place.” I scolded, noticing the stain on his white dress shirt, and the way his in-ear radio was carelessly clipped to his shirt.
Ugh, he’s a complete mess.
“Serious about your work, just like your father, I expected just as much. See you around Y/n.” He said winking at me before grinning again.
My face scrunched up in discomfort before I took swift steps towards the opened doors into the huge high ceiling entrance way of the palace. The white walls accompanied by some white pillars are a sight to marvel at. The hard marble floor has beautiful gold designs while a long strip of a thick and fiery red carpet was laid out.
Anyone would stop to stare at the marvelous architecture and atmosphere but I strolled right through, having seen the inside of the palace many times.
My middle school and early high school days were filled with after school days in the palace, trailing behind my father silently, observing and taking mental notes of everything he did.
My father has been The current King, Kim Taejoon’s advisor since before I was born. He was originally his Majesty’s consult, a temporary advisor for Prince’s during the process of coronation and marriage pursuing.
He assisted His majesty in preparing for his coronation to King. He was also there in assisting with the finding of a bride, who is now Her Majesty Queen Kim Minji, previously Park Minji of the Busan kingdom.
Through that marriage, The Kingdom of Seoul, which was previously the Daegu kingdom before expansion, controlled the most kingdoms of all the rulers. This made it so Gangwon-do was the only province not under The Kim’s Royal family and their monarchy. Gangwon-do neighbors the Seoul province which is home to the Royal palace.
The Gangwon-do province is under the Min Royal family, who were the rulers of the Daegu Kingdom before The Kim family came into power. The history is messy and a bit ugly, so it’s understandable that the Min Royal family sees no possibility of the two families merging.
King Taejoon and Queen Minji had 2 children, a son, and a daughter, though not much is known about their children. Unlike other royal families, ever since the rule of King Taesung(The current King’s father), the children of the royal family are kept out of the spotlight till a certain age.
His Highness Prince Taehyung’s face wasn’t known to the public till he was 19 years old. He’s turning 25 next month and I can’t say the country knows much about him. I’d only seen him in passing when I was tailing my father in the palace. He didn’t speak much, often showing scoffs or sadistic smirks in reply to things. But it doesn’t matter what I think of him, it matters what the Kingdom thinks of him.
I was assigned to Prince Taehyung’s consultation, and if I do well, I could be assigned his advisor. I’d be set with a wonderful job and wonderful pay for life.
A lot of friends ask me why I settled on such a career, seeing as Royal advisors have no social life and basically have their whole lives revolve around their royal client. I’ve seen that first hand, watching my dad miss family events, birthdays, and important milestones in my life.
Though the lack of his presence has caused us to grow distant, I can’t say I’m mad at him. I sort of wish I resented him but from the moment I was born, my father was always all about the royal family. I never had any other expectations.
My father has nothing to do with my decision to take this career path, and I can’t pinpoint what the turning point was, but the royal family interested me.
“I know it’s easy to say everyone is human and though that is true, never put yourself on the same playing field as royals.” My father says sternly, “They are not your equals, and will never be. They look at common people like us through a lens of constant pity and obligation.”
I stare up at him, my 15-year-old mind not fully understanding the heaviness of his words.
“Never mistake their kindness for fondness, I have seen first hand the royals believe they owe loyalty to no one, not even their own people.”
Those are words my father has drilled into me since I told him I wanted to pursue this field of work. A consultant's job is to not be seen and to barely be heard. I understand, and that may have worked with His Majesty Taejoon, but Prince Taehyung is another case.
I know my place. I am a commoner, an obligation to the royal family but I am going to my job well. I will not spare Prince Taehyung’s feelings. If in the presence of those who look down on me as having nothing...I’ll make sure to retain my honesty.
At the end of the entryway stands a familiar figure. Her hair slicked back just like mine, but flowing down her back into a nice ponytail.
She wore all black; her blazer, her blouse and the pencil skirt were all black. Her heels were even black, with red bottoms making an appearance with the slightest foot movements. Her pink painted lips stretched into a friendly smile and I smiled back.
“Michelle, it’s so good to see you!” I say as I get closer to her. She opens her arms and pulls me into a hug. I wasn’t really prepared for it, but I returned anyway.
She smelt of a heavy fragrance that was also pulling my senses into a tight hug. As we pulled back from the hug, I readjusted the briefcase hanging from my shoulder.
“I knew with your father’s recommendation, you would be His Majesty’s choice for Prince Taehyung’s consultation. He said something about, a young person such as yourself would understand the Prince well.” She chuckles at the statement, her eyes scrunching closed to show some crows feet.
Michelle is youthful for her age, though I don’t know exactly how old she is, she has been the Queen’s advisor since I could remember. She says her youthful appearance is due to her constant smiling. She was so different from my father in her methods.
Unlike my father who was stiff and often aloof to His Majesty’s attempts in establishing a friendship, Michelle was more like girl pals with Her Majesty. Michelle was always smiling and radiating a kind aura, just like the Queen.
Though it could be that a Queen’s duties differ from a King’s duties. That doesn’t mean Michelle’s job isn’t tough. She studied the history of South Korea, along with extensive political studies. She needs to know everyone and everything, since she would be advising her Majesty.
It must have been harder for her, since she isn’t native to South Korea; maybe that’s why we relate to each other so well.
But the studying for such a job never stops. We must always keep up with things changing around the world, and how they could affect South Korea. It’s a job that requires you to change along with the times, leaving barely any time for something else.
“I can’t be certain if I could understand him, but I’ll do my best to assist him.” I answered, straightening out my blazer.
“I’m sure you will, the coronation process is always so hectic, so I wish you the best of luck. His highness is gonna be tough to mold.” She whispers, before waving her hand for me to follow her. I stroll right next to her, knowing exactly where we were headed.
This whole wing of the palace is strictly political. As we exited the entryway, the hallway we were walking through almost acted as a balcony, giving a preview of the large ballroom that was the center of this wing.
We took a turn to a completely walled hallway. We were headed to the executive conference room. That’s how it always happens. It’s nearing December and the royal family meets to sort through the plans for the coming year.
“How is it going?” I asked as we turned another corner, the walls now a rich creme color with gold details and gold light fixtures.
She kisses her teeth, “Not so well, Prince Taehyung is less than enthusiastic about this stage of his life. His Majesty is usually pretty lenient with the Prince since he shows potential in his political plans for the kingdom, but the two are butting heads.”
“Why is that?”
Michelle sighs, “His Highness feels like his father is rushing the process, and if it feels rushed and forced the general public will be more reluctant to accept him.”
Well...that makes sense. I don’t have to say anything for Michelle to look at me with a pressed smirk.
“Exactly.” She said when she held my gaze, “Prince Taehyung isn’t stupid he’s just difficult.”
“It would have made things easier if he was an airhead.” I said under my breath. Michelle giggles as she catches wind of my words.
“It’s easier to mold stupid.” She muttered in agreeance as we came to a heavy looking door, guarded by too many men in white dress shirts and black slacks.
They gave both of us a nod of acknowledgement then Michelle stepped forward and opened the door. I followed in behind her, a wave of goosebumps hitting my skin at the difference in temperature. The room was a bit colder than the hallway, leaving my body to react.
Why would they have the AC so high? It’s November for goodness sake.
She gently closes the door behind her and comes to stand beside me. We stood near the door, waiting for a time to introduce our presence.
“That’s such a shallow approach.” A deep voice said. The room was wide, and long but the ceilings weren’t too high. There were no windows and the walls were alder wood panels. In the middle of the room was a large rectangular table that stretched out. There were many seats at the table but right now there were only a few people.
His Majesty King Taejoon sat at the head of the table. Sitting to his right was the Queen. Beside the Queen was a lovely young lady. Princess Cho-hee sat there in sweats. She looks like she was dragged out of bed. Seeing as It’s 9am on a Saturday, I can understand her carelessness.
Her eyes were glued to her phone and she wasn’t tuning in to the conversation at all.
Sitting to the left of King Taejoon was who I presumed to be Prince Taehyung. From where we were standing, the King was directly facing us, so I could see Prince Taehyung’s profile.
He leaned back in the chair, his arms crossed over his chest in a bored manner. He stared up at the ceiling and wasn’t looking at the King as he spoke.
His hair was black and a bit long. His bangs were almost in his eyes, but not enough to obscure his sight. His hair had curls in it, so I’d say it was permed. He had strong features, looking a lot more like his father than his mother.
He wore a white shirt with a grey cardigan. His fingers were graced with some rings and his hands were also so pretty. He oozes high class and wealth.
“Excuse me?” King Taejoon responds.
The Prince looked at his father, a dull and bored expression in his eyes.
“You claim that you want to mend things with the Min family, by forming an allyship with them. I agree with that. But through marriage?”
“You just don’t want to get married.” His Majesty argued.
Taehyung smiled, nodding his head, “That’s partially correct, but I’m looking at the bigger picture. Mending things with the Min family through marriage is lazy.”
The room grew heavy as the Prince’s sharp tone didn’t match the smirk on his lips.
“Marrying the Min Family’s princess doesn’t actually resolve anything. Why are we all dancing around the issues with the Min family and their kingdom? It’ll be a slap in the face to them to try to fix things through marriage.”
“What do you suggest, son?” The King raised an eyebrow at Taehyung. His tone revealed true curiosity, but his face showed doubt. He wasn’t sure what the Prince was going to suggest, seeing as the history with the Min Kingdom is a rough one.
“We need to find a place and time to discuss things. We’ll probably have to involve the United Nations. A formal apology needs to be issued to them, followed by a plan that will show growth for both Kingdoms. It’ll be a long road but it’s better than an allyship formed by marriage.” Taehyung says, followed by a yawn.
“Can you guarantee success?” The Queen suddenly speaks up, looking at both her husband and son. Her fiery eyes didn’t give anything away. That’s one thing the Queen was always good at. Her eyes were always kind and sweet no matter the situation, but I’m certain her thoughts were racing.
“No, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they spit in our faces,” Prince Taehyung says confidently. He fiddles with the rings on his fingers while pondering.
“It’s most likely they’d spit in our faces either way. We can’t be surprised. We’re cleaning up grandpa’s mess.” Prince Taehyung says it casually but an audible gasp sounds through the room. It almost felt like the room got colder and a miserable stillness fell over the room.
I was almost scared to breathe too loudly. Everyone except for Prince Taehyung had gotten visibly stiff. Princess Cho-hee even stopped to look up from her phone. Her eyes started around the faces at the table.
His Majesty, the King, was staring at his son with harsh and surprised eyes. Prince was unaware, still focusing on his rings.
Prince Taehyung’s grandfather….King Taesung. A true tyrant. I shivered at the thought of the man, hoping Michelle didn’t notice.
Prince Taehyung’s Grandfather King Taesung started off as commander and chief for the Daegu Kingdom when it was under the Min family’s rule.
The path taken to bring the Kim family to the power they have now was an awful one. Overtaking the Min family and gaining rule of Daegu. The Min family fled Gangwon-do, a province that was also under their rule. Over the years King Taesung conquered more and more provinces. After conquering the Seoul province they moved the capital from Daegu to Seoul and called it the Seoul Republic of South Korea.
King Taesung made no attempt to conquer Gangwon-do, leaving the Min family in power of the province to this day. King Taesung was an awful ruler. Harsh, demanding and cold hearted. He struck fear into the people, and only craved power.
I never met him before he died, only heard of him through history books and from my father. My father became King Taejoon’s consult while the kingdom was still under Kim Taesung’s rule. My father often spoke of how no warmth could be felt from that man.
His presence commanded respect and he carried his authority on his shoulders. Under his rule, the economy did...okay. There was no growth and most of the population lived middle class lives. King Taesung did not care about the options of his people. The people had no trust in the Kim royal family.
Those who spoke ill of King Taesung would be jailed or worse. He severed alliances with other countries, removing all of the Seoul Republic of South Korea. The Gangwon-do Republic of South Korea stayed a part of the United Nations, having them gain support from America, France and more.
King Taesung’s thirst for power weakened the country in the long run.
They try to speak as little of him as possible. Not only for the sake of the politicians, but for King Taejoon. Though it’s never been confirmed, it’s said that King Taesung was very abusive to his children.
I whole-heartedly believe the only reason my father let me shadow him starting in high school was because King Taesung died a few months before that.
King Taejoon has been doing his best to regain the people’s trust in the Kim family and undo the damage his father created. The Seoul Republic of Korea has mended their ties with many other countries and are now part of the United Nations again.
Under King Taejoon’s rule, the economy soared and the people were doing better. Things are going well, but there is an underlying panic among the general public.
The public barely knows Prince Taehyung and are worried if they’ll land themselves another tyrant King.
“What?” Prince Taehyung said after looking up from his hands. He looked at his mother and father, his perplexed facial expression proving that he truly didn’t feel the shift in the air.
“You’re such an idiot!” His sister hisses at him.
The Prince shows a playful smile to his sister before turning his attention back to his father.
“I am not going to be married off as a deal to keep peace but grandpa was an autocrat.” Taehyung adds before turning his attention back to his rings. He fiddles with them, randomly adjusting them while everyone else is left with the tense atmosphere caused by his words.
I took in a deep breath through my nose, knowing that his plainspoken attitude would be left for me to deal with.
As if he hadn’t noticed us before, the King holds eye contact with me. His eyes grow wide with excitement, and he glances at his son. Taehyung was still occupied by his rings, now moving onto the watch on his wrist.
“What do you think Ms. L/n?” He asks me as a small smile appears on his lips. I wasn’t expecting him to ask my opinion. I should be honest right?
My eyes flicker to Prince Taehyung who was no longer looking at his watch. His eyes were on me. He still looked bored but his body language changed. He leaned back on arm rest on the chair so his body was facing my way.
I held eye contact with him for a moment, moving my attention back to the King. But not quickly enough to miss the way Prince Taehyung’s eyes moved down my body.
“Your Majesty, you’d like my opinion on the Min family matter?” I clarify.
The King nods, “Yes! And just call me Mr. Kim. I’ve known your father for too long for all these formalities.”
“I believe…” I trail off, moving my eyes back to Prince Taehyung who was now staring at me with narrow eyes. He no longer looked bored. He looked like he was waiting to meet my eyes again. When our eyes met he raised his brows swiftly as if to tease me.
Ugh. There he goes. I heard he likes to act like that. When I was briefed on the Prince’s general behavior, I was warned he likes to flirt to distract from his work. He flirts as if to show that he takes nothing seriously. He’s a jokester in some ways and oddly overserious in others. That’ll be no problem for me to deal with.
I can’t lie, he’s a very beautiful man, but none of that matters. I’m only here for a job. Pointless flirting and teasing from Prince Taehyung is just something that comes with the job. I hope he doesn’t take me for a woman that can be swayed by looks. My father raised me stronger than that.
“I believe that Prince Taehyung is right,” I look back to the King, “The method of mending ties with the Min Royal family is going to need more than a marital union. It would be seen as a shallow and lazy approach by the Min family.” I answered honestly, ignoring the small grin that appeared on Prince Taehyung’s face.
He turns to the King, “Do you believe it now that a consultant said it?” The grin now held a sinister undertone.
The King ignores the question and waves me forward. Michelle leaves her spot beside me and makes her way to stand by the Queen. I walk the other way and walk till I am standing beside his Majesty, putting me between him and Prince Taehyung.
I left some space so I wasn’t too close to them, adjusting my briefcase strap on my shoulder. The King shows me a wide smile.
“I’m so glad to see you Y/n! I would always see you following behind your father and here you are! You’re going to by consulting my son! Oh how time flies.” He said. Prince Taehyung, who couldn’t keep his eyes off me, was now reaching into his pocket to grab his phone. He started scrolling through text messages.
Ugh, rude.
“Taehyung, this is Y/n! I told you she would be your consultant! She knows her stuff and I believe she’ll help you over the next year.”
He was fiercely typing something, and I heard the phone as he pressed ended and sent a text message. Before his father could yell at him to pay attention, he was looking up at me.
“Yeah, I remember you telling me.” He answers his father while holding eye contact with me. He had a playful glint in his eyes.
“Does she know the schedule?” He turns back to his father.
“I’m certain she does. Y/n is always on top of things.” The King looks at me expectantly. I notice the Queen also watching me with a small smile.
I didn’t expect the King and Queen to act so familiar with me. I’d only see them in passing when I was shadowing my father. Though I remember my father speaking often of how close King Taejoon always attempted to get.
He called my father his friend, very often.
“Yes,” I answer, noticing now that everyone’s attention was on me.
“His Highness Prince Taehyung turns 25 next month, he will be having a celebration and his Majesty will announce the succession. The coronation is next year in September. Prince Taehyung should have the proper studies and traditions complete by then. He is also expected to be engaged by December next year.” I explained, looking at both Prince Taehyung, the Queen and the King.
The only one smiling was the King. He nodded his head confirming that I was right.
“Y/n?” The Queen’s smooth voice called out. I looked at her, waiting for her comment.
She leaned forward a bit, “Do you believe you will be able to meet those deadlines?” She wasn’t doubting me, but the look in her eyes asked a different question.
My son is difficult, are you sure you can handle him?
“Certainly.” I answered confidently.
“All this talk of engagement is pointless! I already have a person in mind!” Taehyung exclaimed, causing his mother and his sister to roll their eyes.
“You’ve been saying that forever!” His sister contends, “We know you’re lying! Stop trying to stall on things.” His sister looks at me.
“Don’t entertain him on that notion. He doesn’t have anyone in mind. He’s been pulling my parents legs for a few months, hoping to stall the process.” She explains glaring at her older brother.
Prince Taehyung abruptly turns to me, surprising me as he took one of my hands in both of his.
“Marry me?” He said breathlessly, his eyes wide and twinkling.
I stare down at him, not amused or moved.
I gaze down at him for a moment, sure that the annoyance I’m feeling is visible on my face.
A scoff sounds from Cho-hee. The princess grins, “She didn’t even blink. She’s not moved at all.”
Prince Taehyung drops my hand, the dreamy look in his eyes fading.
“Your heart wasn’t stirred?” He asked.
“No.” I answer.
“Not even a bit? Your heart didn’t skip a beat?”
“No, your highness..” I answer.
Cho-hee snickers, “Yeah Tae, not every woman wants a prince to sweep them off their feet.” Cho-hee looks at me again, eager to share something.
“He also asked the 52 year old pastry chef to marry him.” She informs me.
I’m sure he did.
“And that random female bodyguard.” The Queen added.
Cho-hee leans over to her mother, “He sees no significance in marriage or love. You gave birth to a robot mom.” I noticed Michelle, who was silent behind the Queen, stifled a giggle.
Cho-hee whispered loud enough for everyone to hear causing Prince Taehyung to snap back.
“And you’re a gremlin so I guess mom was giving birth to all types of weird things!”
Cho-hee gasps, “Take that back!”
Their banter becomes background noise as the King asks for my attention again.
“Y/n, please take good care of my son.” He says in a low voice.
“Of course.” I bowed slightly, glancing at The Prince Taehyung who was back to scrolling on his phone.
I don’t have much more to say to him, but rather turn to Michelle.
“I’ll show you where your office is.” Michelle says kindly. I nod, make my move to follow her. I stop short and look at Prince Taehyung again.
“I look forward to working for you, your highness.” I bow slightly. Prince Taehyung looks my way. I watch his eyes move from my face and down to my...chest? No...my neck. He glances at my neck and back up to my eyes.
“Flattery doesn’t work on me.” He mutters, and stares at his phone screen.
“Thankfully, I am here to do a job, not win you over.” I say sternly.
Fuck! I shouldn’t have said that! He gawks at me with wide eyes, surprised by my comment, while Princess Cho-hee covers her mouth with her hand to keep from laughing.
The King simply watches our interaction silently with the Queen smirks.
I bow once more before walking around the table to get to Michelle waiting patiently at the door.
“That was a bit too far.” She said as we exited the room, “Your father--”
“My father’s methods are not my methods.” I cut her off, “I won’t let him walk all over me. My father was too passive. I am not.”

The Trespasser pt.7
You were on top of the world with the new title of leader of your family’s clan. You were the strongest clan in all of the orient and you were proud. But your family feels that there are threats still lurking around making you a target. When they introduce you to a potential man for a business and marriage merger will it help your clan or make matters worse?
Word count: 2.8k
Wonho x Reader, Shownu x Reader, Jooheon x Reader
You and Hoseok had decided to meet at your home so the two of you could finalize things and get the ball rolling on your marriage. And currently the two of you were sitting at your desk and sipping on coffee as you read through each of your terms and conditions that you wanted to add into the basic contract agreement. And as you waited for Hoseok to finish reading through so you could both ask any questions you watched him and admired his features.
His sharp nose and incredibly strong and built body was impressive and you would be lying if you said that you didn’t find him attractive. His lips were full, and his eyes were sharp and yet soft. And even on days like today, where he wasn’t necessarily dressed to kill but in everyday clothing, he still looked like the guy who would have the center of attention in any room that he walked in.
“do you have a habit of staring at people?” Hoseok asked you without even looking up at you
His words hadn’t even registered in your head as you continued to look at his figure and his features. You were staring at his hair when Hoseok realized that you were still looking and hadn’t heard him. He had raised his head up and sat back in his seat with his arms crossed. He gave you a small knowing smirk as you came eye to eye with him and gave him a confused look.
“what?” you asked confused as to Hoseok’s sudden demeanor
He let out a small chuckle and shook his head “nothing” he said softly “did you think that everything was okay?” he asked
“there was one thing I wanted to ask about” you said as you read through his terms and found the one that had slightly concerned you. “Party A reserves the right to end the contract with Party B at any time if Party B’s health declines or if he becomes unfit to perform daily tasks?” you ask as you read out the term
Hoseok gave you a polite smile and took a deep breath before he explained “you know of my health and the extensive surgeries that I have had. So if I were to get injured there is a large possibility that it could also cause some complications in some of my other older injuries.”
You stared at him waiting for him to continue. You had imagined that the clause would be something that was very important or detrimental to the marriage. Not some crap about him having an injury.
Hoseok stared back at you for a moment before he continued with his explanation. “and it could leave me bedridden and dependent on a caretaker…depending on how bad the injuries are.”
You took a moment to reflect on what he had just told you, and a small part of you also felt offended that he would think that him being injured could be an embarrassment or a burden to you. “so you think that I would just toss you away if you were to become injured?” you asked him
“no. I would hope that you wouldn’t, but I would understand that you might need to in a specific circumstance.” He elaborated
You stared at Hoseok as if he had a horn growing out of his head and wondered what had happened to make him think of such a thing. “Let me get one thing clear….” You stared before you continued, hoping that Hoseok would hear how serious you were “if you are to get injured during the contract I will not terminate it. While in term of the contract the two of us will be 50/50 partners and I will never leave one of my own just because they require more assistance or down time. None of your injuries will embarrass me, be a hinderance to me or make me feel superior to you.” You explained
Hoseok swallowed before he gave you one content head nod. And you didn’t know why but you felt like the injuries were definitely a sore spot for Hoseok. And perhaps it was the one thing that he felt insecure about. Maybe he felt that since he had injuries that made him more vulnerable and prone to accidents that he was broken goods or unfit.
“do you get a lot of injuries?” you asked him out of concern for his health and not the contract
Hoseok awkwardly dropped his attention from you to the floor and he shuffled his feet while he tried to avoid answering the question “I don’t get injuries per-say…but some days I wake up with terrible back pains.”
You nodded your head and gave Hoseok a small smile, showing him that you appreciate his openness and honesty. You quickly moved on to another topic so that Hoseok wouldn’t feel attacked or pitied, and bring the focus to yourself.
“is there anything that you needed clarification on from my conditions?” you asked him
Hoseok scanned over your added conditions and then smiled down at one “Party B should only engage in physical contact with Party A in conditions in which it necessary for the integrity of the marriage or when both parties consent.” He looked up at you with a crooked smile. “I understand the first half. But do you care to elaborate on ‘when both parties consent’?” he asked
You held in your laughter and thought to yourself of course mr. playboy had to remember that condition. “that is simply insurance for myself so that you know that any physical contact is to be kept to a minimum. As I have said already this marriage Is just on paper. So its there to make sure that you and I are both on the same terms.”
Hoseok smiled at you and gave you an awkward glance over. Is he upset right now? you could only see his disappointment for a split second before he wiped his emotions from his face, and returned to the smirky playboy.
“is there anything else that you want to look over before things are finalized?” you asked him to redirect the conversation
Hoseok finally leaned forward and flipped to the front of the contract where he found the specifics of the contract terms and dates. “I didn’t find the contract dates anywhere. Was there any time when you wanted to start the contract?”
“things will be official and start the day that we sign the contracts.” You answer
Hoseok gave you a bewildered look “so today? We will be married starting today?” he asked in disbelief
You smiled at him and nodded your head. He looked really cute when he was caught off guard and surprised. But you would never admit that to him. Compliments and small things like that would only confuse and complicate things.
“no ceremonies, no photos, no marriage certificate?” he asked
“of course we will have marriage certificates. All I have to do is give the official okay and they will be sent to us.” You elaborated “but the marriage photos, and ceremonies are of no use to me.”
“hmm” Hoseok hummed as he thought things over “my mom will be a bit bummed about there not being a ceremony, but this isn’t a typical marriage is it?!”
You nodded your head and looked down at your desk thinking things over. You didn’t want to have to do unnecessary things like marriage photos. Because, for all you knew you and Hoseok could end up on bad terms and such things lying around would just be thrown away…. But on the other hand you could understand that he wasn’t doing this for himself but for his parents and for the business. And with all personal feelings aside you also knew that it was something that could potentially come in handy. Plus, your mother would also more than likely be upset that there was no reception or photos.
You took a deep breath before you responded to hoseok’s mumbling. “I honestly don’t find the point in a ceremony, but if you would like to take marriage photos we can.”
Hoseok looked up to you and gave you a small smile. You could tell that he was surprised in you offering to do something more… marital, but when you sign the contract things are supposed to be 50/50. And if it means that taking a day to take marriage photos would make both parties and their families happy, then it was worth it.
“I think that would be nice. I mean I obviously can’t speak for you but I would like marriage photos to show the family.” He said softly while he looked at you with a glowing smile.
“Fine. We can schedule it.” You said returning his smile back.
You turned to look at your calendar on your computer and your phone and frowned when you noticed that you had a message from Minhyuk
Min: The boys and I are out doing some training at the warehouse. The house is empty for you and the Mr. to explore and look around
You didn’t know why but you had a sinking feeling about all of the men being outside of the house on purpose. It felt like they were speaking behind your back and that also means that Shownu and Jooheon would have been involved in the conversation. And you didn’t want to wave this in their faces any more than you absolutely had to.
“care to take a look around and get familiar with the place?” You offered to Hoseok as you pushed the negative thoughts out of your mind
Hoseok smiled and stood up from his seat and you quickly stood with him and then guided him through the office and around the house. You showed him every corner and allowed for him to enter every room and ask whatever questions that he wanted. He was impressed by the gym and the size of the industrial kitchen, and it was obvious that he was excited about moving in, despite there being multiple people who also live in the house with you. But you knew that it would be big changes for him since he had always lived with his family and clan. You were almost done showing him around the house until you came to the only wing left. The only room that you hadn’t shown him was your own and his.
“and this room will be yours if you approve” you said as you opened the door to the spare empty bedroom that sat just across from yours
You had stepped out of the way and watched as he walked inside, looking the walls up and down. He took the time to look inside the closets, check out the in-suite bathroom and come across the hidden door that led to his own panic room and office space.
“what is this?” he asked as he looked at the almost invisible seam on the walls
You stepped forward and smiled at him before you pulled the fake light panel out and revealed the wall opening touchpad. You turned to look at hoseok’s expression, but he was absolutely astounded by what he was witnessing and waited patiently for you to completely open the wall.
You tapped once on the screen and then put your finger on the touch pad, waiting to hear the familiar beep that it was unlocked. Only a moment later the secret door had come unlatched and you had eagerly pushed through it. Inside there was a small hallway that led to the secret office space and you waited for Hoseok inside.
“woah!” he said quietly in surprise as he walked through. “this is incredible!”
You chuckled “this is your secret office space. Though of course you can use it for whatever you want….and in the hallway there where you first came in the floor can be lifted and underneath there is a secret panic room”
Hoseok looked back to the hallway and smiled as he tried to find the giveaway that it was a secret passage. But when he couldn’t find anything he looked back at you in amazement. “this is incredible”
“yes. You’ve already said that!” you chirped back sarcastically. “so do you like it?” you asked him with a smile already knowing that he was in love with the house but the secret room had sealed the deal.
“are you kidding me?!” he laughed “my house is so dull compared to this. You know as a kid I knew that my dad had a panic room but I never got to go inside…. And I always wanted to just peek inside. But now I have my own!”
“let me know when you plan to move in and I can have your room arranged for you” you said nonchalantly
Hoseok smiled and tilted his head to the side “I can pretty much move in whenever…but there’s one more thing that I’m curious about”
You gave him a look of awareness, letting him know that you were open to whatever he wanted to know. He scanned your face and bit his lip as if he was unsure of whether or not he should press on with his curiosity. But without a second thought he asked.
“I haven’t seen your room yet. Can I take a look?”
You gave him an apprehensive glare. It wasn’t that you were unwilling to share your personal space with him. After all, you were as good as married and if the two of you were going to spend a lot of time with each other and live in the same space there was no use in trying to hide it. But your room wasn’t in the best shape and you were embarrassed to show it to someone for the first time in the shape that it was in.
“uhh… right now isn’t really a good time-” you muttered
“what? Are your men waiting for you in your room or something?” he asked with a chuckle
You tilted your head “no. nothing like that.” You said and then let out a sigh. That chapter of your life was likely closed for a good while “it’s not exactly tidied up right now”
“well that’s even better!” Hoseok said with a megawatt smile. “I can see how you really are without all of the pretense. Plus, I’m sure your room is full of the things that you like so I can also get to know you a little bit better.”
You gave him a final look of uncertainty before you let out a deep breath “alright, let’s get the embarrassment over with then”
Hoseok chuckled and took the lead out of his future room. You couldn’t tell what he was more excited by at this point… his dream panic room or your messy bedroom. He waited by the front door for you and you slowly walked to the door directly across from his own. You gave him a small frown before you commented under your breath
“don’t say I didn’t warn you”
You opened the door and allowed for Hoseok to take the lead in.
“wow” was all that he said as he looked around
You mentally scolded yourself as you looked around with him, frowning at your pile of clothes at your bedside. The unfolded and unhung clean clothes that sat in a laundry bin. The half empty or completely empty water bottles that sat on your night stands. The shoes that were lying around scattered through your bedroom. The pillows from your unmade and wrinkled bed that sat on the floor.
You knew that it was a mess and honestly you were embarrassed that Hoseok was seeing this side of you. It was completely different from what you had presented everywhere else in the house. Everything that was a shared space was neat and tidy and you prided yourself in keeping things orderly. But when it came to your own personal space…you were a little more relaxed.
“it’s not that bad” Hoseok said with his hand on the back of his neck as if he was trying to physically hold back from cringing or laughing
You rolled your eyes even though he couldn’t see you doing it and walked over to his side so you could take a good look at his face. and as he turned to face you he had a sympathetic and polite smile on his face. you smiled back to him and scoffed.
“you’re full of shit” you said jokingly
Hoseok laughed and cocked his eyebrow. “actually, I’m not. I’m quite messy myself”
“really?” you asked surprised
Hoseok turned away from you to exit your room and just faintly under his breath you could hear him whisper “you’ve got a lot to learn about me…Mrs. Shin”

Perfection
Pairings: Poppy x MC (Bea Hughes)
Warnings: None
Word count: 1900
Bea Hughes was not a spoiled brat like most of the young people of Belvoire and with the successful completion of her schooling she went straight into police work. Ever since she was a child, she had fought for her own, without any tariffs and faced human envy and selfishness. That's why when she got the job as an officer, she was determined to make this town perfect.
Perfection is a relative term. She knew she couldn't bring Belvoire to that state on her own, but she still hoped that her hard work would bear fruit. She was used to failure, but she did not allow herself to be broken. Just once. God, only once had she bowed to the pressure of her own demons and failed. So shamefully that nothing but a stone mask had graced her face ever since.
Unaccustomed to balls and parties, Bea was faced with a difficult choice: whether to follow society's acceptance and wear a frighteningly beautiful and sweet dress that completely did not suit her, or a simple, elegant suit whose graphite color matched her feelings. With a touch of distrust, she ran her fingers over the delicate material of the dress and held her breath in her chest. The coolness of the material irritated her fingertips, which were warm compared to the silky material, scratching her every now and then with the sewn-on sequins. This was not what she wanted. Not the sweetness and extravagance, but the passion and simplicity the suit would provide.
She had never needed society's approval so much, so with a sigh of relief she reached for the graphite material and nimbly threw it on. With a simple and careful movement, she tied the tie around her neck, which tightened like a noose against her pale rosy skin. Later today, people would hang her with words for this outfit, just as they had done in the past.
Out of the corner of her eye, she noticed the gun holster that rested lazily on the elegant white bedside table. Taking that object in her hand, a shiver ran through her body, one that she always felt when touching the cool metal of a gun. Pure adrenaline, it was a feeling she so needed, and at the same time, didn't want to have. Tonight was all about perfection.
In front of her house stood a perfectly polished Ford Crown, its black and white hues exuding a sleek look. Tonight, however, because of the required elegance of the show, Bea brought along her beloved Ford Mustang that she inherited from her parents. It was the last thing they had left that would always have an important place in her heart and life. Slipping into the driver's seat, she let out a shaky breath. She was getting closer and closer to disaster. A sea of piranhas that were ready to tear her apart on the spot and, as usual, with stoic, even irritating, calmness, she would let them.
Keep calm. Be perfect.
Entering the monster's liege, she adjusted the tie one last time to make the noose let go, at least for a moment. She knew it was worth trying, even with poor results. Complete failure was never an option.
With uncertain and cautious steps, she glided deeper into the darkness. The smell of cigarettes and expensive alcohol irritated her nostrils and her face bent in an unnatural grimace. And although she herself sometimes did not shy away from alcohol, today it seemed extremely irritating. After all, spoiled brats are allowed everything, which disgusted Bea at the very thought.
After making her way through the dark corridor, a bright light flashed across her eyes, like passing through a magical portal, where a completely different world awaited her on the other side. The smell of alcohol intensified as the ballroom appeared to her eyes, bursting at the seams with an overwhelming amount of people. Most of them complete strangers to her, they were carelessly prancing to the beat of simple, primitive music, feeling none of the dangers of adulthood.
"Bea Hughes!" she heard a drunken yell behind her and let the air out of her lungs loudly.
Zoey Wade, her closest and pretty much the only friend she had spoken to in her school days. The complete opposite of her, a complete lack of perfection. Still, Bea felt a strong attraction to her, a need for adrenaline that her friend's behavior always satisfied. In her younger days an unknowable curiosity, today it is familiar and damned by every possible layer of society.
"Zoey Wade," she replied with an undisguised wince. This girl continued to be a harbinger of trouble. The brunette tilted her head gently to the side to carefully examine the silhouette hiding behind her friend.
A young girl with a radiant smile caught her eye. Her hair glinted like gold every now and then, shimmering in waves of colored lights. Bea thrust her hands into her pockets and shamelessly fed off the sight of this beautiful creature. Low and petite in stature, completely vulnerable and innocent.
Perfect.
"Who is this beauty you brought yourself?", she asked nonchalantly, directing her gaze back to her friend's eyes. Zoey cringed, and her eyes popped wide open. The brunette was taken aback by this reaction and shifted nervously from foot to foot.
"Are you talking about my cousin Poppy?", her friend's eyes flashed in semi-darkness as she corrected her posture after that unfavorable reaction.
Bea's lips tightened into a straight line, and soft wrinkles appeared on her face as she became lost in her thoughts. She thought back to the carefree days when she and Zoey would play in the backyard together, paying no attention to the different level of social classes they came from. It was not easy for a simple girl to play with the mayor's daughter. The black-haired girl adored Bea so much that her parents allowed them to hang out, but they made no secret of their disgust with the lower class, reminding her at every turn that she was beneath them.
Finally, one day the cup overflowed and Bea decided to take revenge for all the mental harm done to her. She took away their perfection. After that incident, she was no longer the same carefree person. She closed herself off and put on a stone mask, becoming a merciless jerk.
"If it was your cousin, I would remember. Believe me", she shrugged her shoulders. Her hungry gaze, once again, returned to the blonde, who was dancing with some boy just as she once had, free of her demons. Her movements innocent, made the blood boil in Bea's veins. She licked her parched lips with the tip of her tongue and struggled to swallow the growing lump in her throat.
"She didn't live near us. She's been in New York most of her life because her parents didn't want a simple life for her," she paused for a moment to wet her tongue in the percent golden liquid. "She's a lawyer."
"And everyone's favorite," Bea's throat went dry as she heard the angelic voice of young Sinclair gracelessly slung over her cousin's shoulder. The strong floral scent of her perfume, beat down the bitter stench of sweat and alcohol. The brunette's chest tightened, unable to rise or fall any further.
Get a grip on yourself.
„We don't know each other yet”, she flashed her an overly sweet smile. „Poppy Min Sinclair, lawyer, cousin to that dolt and future Mrs. Jackson.”
Bea lowered her gaze to the small and delicate hand with perfectly filed and painted nails that was extended toward her. She reciprocated the grip and when her thumb wrapped around the top of the blonde's hand, she froze. Her gaze traveled from her tiny, long fingers to the milky white skin of her exposed arms.
Adrenaline.
She needed it.
No.
She needed her.
And she always got what she wanted.
***
After several hours of constant talking and faking any interest, Bea stopped for a short break at the snack table. The atmosphere was so artificial that, for a brief moment, she even felt like she fit into this environment. As if no one there was judging her. How naive that trajectory of thinking was.
It was time for the worst part of the show: the dancing. She preferred to dance with men, although even this was not without a few indiscreet whispers. Because how is it possible for a woman and a man to dance both in a suit. It was so imperfect. Moments passed and so did the partners. Bea felt tired of listening to the stories of everyone she danced with. The most she could think of right now was to sit in her favorite chair with a glass of scotch. That was her wish until someone tapped her gently on the shoulder.
"Hey stranger, care to dance?", the wide smile on Poppy's face softened her heart, not even allowing her to refuse. As a police officer she stuck to the rules, but for this girl she was able to break them.
She returned the smile and found them a free spot on the dance floor. She felt soft hands wrap around her neck and the girl's forehead fell against her chest. Surprised by this closeness, she uncertainly placed her hands on her slender waist, but without moving closer so that their bodies were at a relatively safe distance.
"You intrigue me", she whispered innocently, swaying lazily to the beat of the music. Bea's throat became dry and before she could get anything out, the girl continued. "You show up here in the middle, trying to sit in the dark, and you look quite unhappy", boldness in her words earned her some respect from the brunette. "You seem to be completely different from everyone else here. Why?", Poppy lifted her head and found Bea's mysteriously gleaming eyes in the semi-darkness.
If the blonde had only known why Bea didn't belong here, she would have fled in terror like everyone else. Poppy was a lawyer, a fiancée, her life must have been so perfect she surely never experienced a blemish on her porcelain skin. Skin whose emanating warmth she could feel with every scrap of her taut body.
"So it seems", she replied indifferently, shoving all incorrect thoughts to the back of her mind. "Is it appropriate for you, the lawyer and future Mrs. Jackson, to maintain such closeness with a stranger?", she changed the subject turning the attention away from herself
She watched carefully as the girl's face changed expression, and only for a moment did she feel the need to close the distance and seal her lips in a kiss.
"I...", Poppy was about to say something, but she stopped at the beginning of her sentence. Any trace of a smile disappeared from her face. "I have to go now.", she said mysteriously, sounding like a completely different person, which drew interest from the brunette. She stood on her toes and innocently brushed her lips against the other girl's cheek, stopping near her ear. "Come tomorrow with my cousin to the wedding dress salon for my fitting. The more the better."
Bea nodded, watching the blonde's silhouette disappear among the rest of the dancing partygoers. Automatically her hand went to the place where Poppy's mouth had been and she sighed heavily.
This couldn't end well.

Hi there 🌺 I really enjoy your posts on healing the wounded feminine. I have been studying my own wounds and noticing that I’m having trouble nourishing myself with love and healing especially when I’m around my mother. She has done insanely horrible things to me & my siblings. Genuinely insane stuff. And I’ve been pushing it under the rug because I don’t want drama & I want to be mature, loving, and forgiving, but everytime I go around her I get irrationally irritated & angry. Sometimes I’ll even pop off with a bratty attitude (I’m trying to heal this because it’s very childish and unattractive) because I just feel so disgusted around her. I’m not going to go into detail about what she’s done, but it’s really disgusting on many levels. How do you heal your wounds when you live around someone who has willingly harmed you on very deep levels all throughout your childhood? And when you have to put on an act because you need support while becoming an adult?
Thank you 💗
Hey sweetie, thank you for your message. I’m sorry to hear what you’ve been through, and how triggering your mother is for you. The fact you're aware of your behaviour and are taking steps to heal is amazing, and there's definitely light at the end of the tunnel honey.
Firstly, if you have the option to move out and not be under the same roof as your mom, I would recommend that. A big part of healing involves creating safety, especially for those who didn’t receive this from parents / caregivers. This involves your environments, the people you surround yourself with, and also creating safety within (which is the most important of all). Inner safety involves re-parenting yourself. Try and think about what emotional needs weren’t met as a child, e.g the need to be seen, to be loved, to be reassured, to feel safe, to speak your truth. Think about what you told yourself as a child? When we dig down the most common limiting belief is ‘I am not enough’. So part of the healing process is telling a different story. Start with affirmations, repeating to yourself, every moment you get the chance, everything you needed to hear as a child. Drown yourself in self love, record yourself affirming that you are loved, you are beautiful, you are worthy, you are safe, you are protected. Replaying through your headphones during the day, before bed. Focus on telling yourself everything the little version of you was never told. Part of stepping into the empowered feminine is learning how to give yourself everything you need, creating feelings of safety from within, creating feelings of love from within. Those intense, bratty, irrational emotions that arise because of your moms behaviour are an opportunity to grow and heal, to let what's coming up for you, come out out you. Remember each time you react, you’re handing your power over. This is about taking your power back. Reclaiming your power. In order not to lash out and be a slave to your emotions, you need to be really familiar with your wounds, and trigger, the stories you’ve created, they will almost be a loop and very repetitive each time. You need to sit with these difficult emotions, and ask yourself, what do I need? What story am I telling myself right now that's not serving me? How can I choose to show myself love in this moment? In order not to lash out, practising mediation will be a game changer. Even if its 5 mins per day, find an app or a youtube, or try this each day and it will start creating space in your mind. This space allows you to tell yourself a different story next time you're triggered such as “what if my mom is operating from a hurt place? What if this isn’t about me?”. To create this space mediation is KEY. I can’t emphasise this enough, even if you start with 5 mins per day doing a guided mediation on YouTube or an app. It’s a game changer for healing and growth, the space it creates in your mind allows you to think differently.
And remember, hurt people hurt people. Try and see your mom as a mirror for all the healing that needs to be done within you. She is the cause and the cure, because she will unknowingly show you where you need to heal each time you get triggered. Try to re-frame being triggered.Do you choose to tell yourself the old stories, the blame, the projection, operating from the wounded feminine? Or do you choose to step into your empowered feminine and use your innate wisdom and power to sit with the discomfort, to give yourself everything you need in that moment, to remove yourself from toxic situations, to turn inwards, to show yourself love and care. With any of this healing, it requires commitment and dedication, ultimately turning inwards, giving yourself so much self love and care. When you do this, life will start to mirror back all the love and radiance that you’re feeling inside.
I’m going to be posting some resources in a separate post for healing the wounded and stepping into the empowered feminine. Xoxo

“What the fuck were you spitting out there hmm! Have you lost your mind? Why aren’t you answering me you shit!”
jaehyun avoided prying when mark and yuta were arguing but he couldn’t keep it in anymore. mark shifted the gears to park the car in the middle of nowhere, tense silence hugging all of them. jaemin was annoyed with jaehyun’s endless remarks at mark but it was hyuck who was most confused as he was unable to form any kind of judgement.
“why did you stop the car now? Its midnight-
“can you stop drunk talking hyung. I can’t drive like this!”
“I’m very sober. Its you whose brain is dead mark. Did you even notice yuta’s face when you-
“just stop hyung. I’m not ashamed of what I said there. I stand by each and every word! Now can we go back home or do you have anything else?
“you can’t be real! He has done so much for you all these years and this is how you repa-
“yes exactly! He has made so many sacrifices for me all these years, that’s why its my responsibility to show him the right way that he is clearly not following at all and you all are partly responsible for it! You are feeding his selfish ego by showing him hollow sympathy but that’s gonna bite him in the ass at end.”
“woah woah tiger. So what you gonna do? Instruct him how to live his life. Are you making him realise that he doesn’t hate y/n when he clearly cant stand her presence for even a minute and by some miracle, even if you end up pacifying yuta, then what about that cold hearted queen! She’s just here t-
“she is not here on her own! And I am not going to repeat myself, so fix it in your head hyung. She is not here to replace anyone!! Yuta hyung just hates the thought of her coerced and fortuitous presence in his life and I’m not trying to create a miracle here. I just want our lives back to normal and I’ll go to every extent to make it possible!” his chest heaved up and down as the anger subsided a bit, his heart feeling at ease after getting his thoughts out. Jaehyun only scoffed at him.
“you are too naïve markie. This is not how emotions work.”
“this is the only way emotions work hyung!” with that said, he shifted the gear, driving on the road with the same silence lurking again but he felt better. much better.
“who do you think is right?” hyuck whispered in jaemin’s ear, in the hope that he would solve his dilemma.
“I don’t know but I’d love if she stays forever. We are missing one member anyway” he whispered back earning a small tight lip smile from donghyuck who fell into a deep slumber right after that.
Slowly he moved himself to the other side, bruised elbow secured in his hand, grunts exiting him. You knew you were fucked up as soon as his cold eyes fell upon you.
“I guess it’s my time to call taeyong.” He glared, the strong eye contact not lasting for too long as he tried to lift himself up from the floor.
Meanwhile you kept observing him, biting your left thumb, feet glued to the ground. your eyes followed his hobbled travel from the kitchen to the couches from where you heard his long sigh of relief as he placed his leg on the table while stroking his knee. his head fell on the couches and suddenly your conscience kicked in while watching his painful expressions. You found yourself sluggishly walking out of the kitchen with careful steps to avoid the spill, sleepiness fading away.
Yuta’s scraped elbow was in the vision as you neared him. He was still nursing his knee, elbow forgotten by now. Maybe it was the momentary pain! you deliberated about asking him first but then remembered that you don’t have to communicate with him to show that you were still human! So you quietly went to bathroom to find your first aid kit that you placed somewhere the day you settled your stuff. It was not easy to locate it with the lack of cooperation of your hands and mind in the current state, but still you tried your best.
With same motion you went back. Yuta’s hand was still cupping the knee but his features seemed to be much more peaceful than before. But you still approached hesitantly and placed the box on the table, near his foot.
“have a seat please. We have some unfinished business here beautiful!” he sneered, signalling you to sit beside him.
“no thanks. I have work to do.” You tiredly replied, moving away.
“I.Said.Sit.Here! I also wanna experience the thrill of whinning like a baby!
“oh please , I have nothing to fear! Just call him already. I’ve work to do!” you told him in stern voice while circling the table to sit far away from him.
Yuta smirked a little at your show of bravery when anyone could see right through you at the moment. Your eyes were half shut, shoulders slumped down but still upright when it came to fighting him. But yuta clearly knew he had the upper hand this time.
Or he thought!
Your heartbeat sped up with each ring. Very dramatically , yuta had put the phone on speaker to prove his point.
After 5 rings, tayeong picked up and so did your pulse.
“who it is?” a yawn filled voice was heard from the other side.
“are you still sleeping bitch?” yuta inquired with annoyance.
“ye-yes. We cleared the month last night so everyone is sleeping. What el-
“just wake up! I’ve something important to tell!”
“later. I’m bus-
“its about your precious y/n!”
“is she gone?” it sounded like he was suddenly awake!
“tsk tsk. The fuck is your problem? Do you even care about my wellbeing or should I find a new father!” yuta growled at him, his voice pierced through your ears.
“I’ll call her myself!”
“like she would tell you about her plan to lay my 6 feet under the ground!”
Yuta heard a deep sigh from the other side.
“this story better be good coz I don’t wanna lose my sleep ov-
“this is not a story. She spilled water to make me slip and –
“and kill you. what kind of man dies after a little slipping! Huh!”
“have you adopted her or something taeyong! Your attitude is fucking me up. Can you hear me for once or do you-
“what do you wanna say exactly! That you slipped and broke your legs and arms. Make it believable yuta. She might be a bit bitchy but can’t be that evil.”
“so I am a bitch!” your sleepy and cold voice interrupted.
“no no , I meant-
“It was unintentional. i didn’t even know he was home. And it was him who decided to barge in when I was finding food. He was not even invited into the kitchen in the first place!”
“but I got hurt and it was because-
“hurt? you mean as in injured! Oh god. You can’t come back then. take leave for a few days if you are hurt badly and call jun , he’ll be there with medicines and bandages. Consider this an extension of the suspension but you aren’t leaving the hous-
“fuck you taeyong! I hope you die in your sleep!!”
Slamming the phone on the table, he pulled at his roots, lidded eyes boring into you.
“you’ll pay for this.” his finger threateningly pointed towards you.
You let out a yawn before getting up to leave the space to him,
“whatever just don’t finish the spray bottle. Its new”
After that you didn’t hear anything from yuta or anyone.
And it just went like that for 2 more weeks!
“why don’t you shift to the dorms for two months! You can hang out with minjun while he complete his reports.”
“so you want me to lose my sleep and baby your baby?” you snickered, slurping the soup a bit louder this time.
“I’m not a baby!” minjun whined.
“oh you are!” a collective response resounded through the room and your reached out to pet minjun’s hair but he swatted your hand away in annoyance.
“no seriously shortie. You’d be alone for a whole month. Even chelin is going home this time. you can spend some time with junie and he’d treat you to homemade food Is it tempting enough?” jungkook suggested.
“not that I’m any interested in the offer but I can teach you the Japanese you were talking about earlier.” At minjun’s comment, everyone raised their brows, silently questioning your new interest.
“what? You all are so nosy. My new roommate is always dissing me in Japanese and I can’t answer that fucker coz I don’t understand anything he spits out at me.”
“HE?” another group chant resonated.
“why is your roommate a man?” yugyeom added.
“because he was born a man!”
“haha very funny y/n l/n. what’s his name and is he from our university?”
“his name is nakamoto yuta and no, he’s not a student. And before you enquire, he’s home only for like few hours so you don’t need to worry him being a pervert or anything.”
“where is your new residence anyway?” you almost choked at yugyeom’s sudden interruption but it confirmed your suspicion that jungkook hadn’t revealed anything yet.
“instead of me, shouldn’t you love birds be worried about the unbearable separation that’d last for a whole month. How are you gonna cope with it gyeom? Especially when yeong is going to be in Incheon and you in busan, stuck with the sweaty sports team and jungkook, who’d be slapping with you with kisses every now and then, thinking you are min-
A shove of dumpling into your mouth caused you to inhale back all the words that were supposed to leave.
“if you don’t wanna meet, then atleast call him daily after your moon internship and he can also accompany you to busan if you want.”
The colour of the air faded at the mention. Slowly, you swallowed the piece in your mouth , instantly finding a distraction to lighten the mood.
“why are these so delicious?”
Rummaging through the empty boxes, jungkook found the pamphlet and shoved it in your face which you curled into a ball and threw towards minjun, hitting him right in the face.
“yaa jun. keep it safe. We’ll order while watching movies and take keys of this house from your boyfriend,” you ordered, pointing to jungkook, “and his Netflix password and his wallet and if he allows, his car ke-
“shut your mouth love-hater!” jungkook exclaimed while stuffing your mouth with two dumplings. And everyone else just laughed at your troubled state, silently agreeing with jungkook’s statement.
What a good day to be a foodie!
Three days!
Taeil had granted you three days to de-stress yourself before you’d be joining your so called trainer for a self defence training program of two months. You wondered who could it be but it was definitely not the person you wished for! Johnny had been in france since two weeks, right from the day your exams started. He left his phone at home but he did contact you through a payphone to wish luck for exams. Since then, it’d been complete silence from the other end. You didn’t even know whether you really missed his presence or just the thought of being with someone who really showed some care for you.
eat, tv, sleep repeat seemed to be a very reasonable routine! your happiness had elevated when you saw a notification of chois about a job opening. Though you wanted to start from an internship in the main office but a moderate salary job as an assistant researcher of a junior lawyer wasn’t so bad as well!
no. actually it was awful seeing how much over-qualified you were for this job but with all the diminishing digits in your wallet, there was some significant scope for the bargain in your situation. But you still had to wait for 2 weeks for the acceptance of your application that would take you a step closer to your dream. Just two more weeks!
Is he still alive, you thought before leaving the kitchen, ready to finish the homemade meal.
High on a happy chemical , you cooked yourself ramyeon and eggs and completed your fancy dinner with a bottle of coke.
While slipping out of the kitchen , your eyes fell on the clean sink reminding you of the presence that you hadn’t felt since the last week.
“I’ll accompany jeno. We’ll be done in two minutes” yuta proposed with a lopsided grin.
The place was more livelier with yuta’s return. Not that he wasn’t already present, but the day he returned to his usual routine was when everyone got their sunshine back. He acted like nothing has changed but still noone could ignore his overcautiousness. He was engaging too much as if to make up for the lost time and not that anyone objected for they were happy to see the old yuta with old ways. Just something was odd!
While most of them were oblivious, others understood what he was hiding behind that façade. They had noticed how he took late night activities just to avoid being sent home or how he took jaehyun and mark with him to avoid any interaction with you.
But the most irksome was how day by day,he was drifting apart from taeyong.
“do you wanna take him home?” taeil snapped his fingers in front of your eyes as you registered his words. You were looking or shamelessly staring at the face of the man. He was dangerously tall as compared to you but his face was shining brighter than the sun itself. Your head snapped towards him again as taeil went on,
“don’t stare like you are gonna eat him y/n.” jungwoo eyes were dancing in the whole room as he avoided your curious ones. You didn’t mean to be creepy but you were having a hard time believing that the man sitting in front of you was a street fight champ and a former drug lord’s son. He seemed too….human.
“who’s staring?” you feigned innocence, looking at taeil.
“way to go advocate!” he said before continuing , “as I told you, jungwoo is a trained fighter, assassin and has a strong grip on pistols. Seeing what you can carry, a pistol is best for you. and jungwoo is a softie here so he won’t even give you a scratch during the training. But you have to actually listen to him or I’ll assign someone that won’t go easy on you.
“like?”
“like ten or jeno, they both don’t have any control over where they are hitting once they start so either you can cooperate with jungwoo or be ready to break some of your limbs.”
“how subtle taeil. but I can work with him.” you smiled at jungwoo which was returned with a shy one.
“okay then. Take care of each other and if you need anything then I’m not home.” Ad with a wave , he was gone.
“what do you wanna start with?” jungwoo asked in a small voice.
“you are teacher so whatever you say.”
“okay them. we’ll start with grip practice.” He got up, signalling you to follow him.
You ended up in a small part of the basement. It was divided into two sections with a glass used as the separation. Raw grass kind hard padding was attached to the walls on the both sides. On the other side of the wall were pasted two targets looking like giant sized dart boards that you suppose were for the practice.
While you were glancing around, jungwoo came back with a small metal box. He opened it to reveal a matt black pistol that looked even smaller when he held it.
“you can’t start with a semi-auto one just yet so for basics this is good for you. though I’m here but please don’t drop it. it belongs to taeyong hyung and he doesn’t know it’s here so please don’t mention it either.” He pleaded in a soft voice to which you found yourself nodding, copying his motion.
“so , you don’t need to memorise every part of a pistol but remember the few terms so if you ever held a new gun or pistol, someone can instruct you as to the handling of it.” you kept nodded as he went on,
“this is the exposed barrel, slide stop, safety lever , trigger and trigger guard and the most important magazine, if its empty ,your body would become the home of enemy bullets. Try clicking the safety lever!”
You did as he instructed. For about thirty minutes, he taught about pulling the barrel that drained your wrists of all the strength they had. He let you go only when he was sure you won’t forget the basics, atleast not until tomorrow.
You hadn’t felt this exhausted in your life as much as you did in the last week. If Thesis research and jungwoo’s lessons were not enough then minjun’s new found love of photography was surely doing its work on your body. Who knew holding flowers and leaves for aesthetic photos was so much draining! And the time you were alone at home was spent sleeping and that too only if yuta and his gang were not screeching out their lungs, fighting with someone online with no regard for the well-being of others in the house. You knew he was aware of his actions but with zero communication, even you didn’t bother pointing him out.
But when had avoidance created peace!
12:30 p.m
As you flipped the glossy leaves of the photo album, the three humans behind that transparent film seemed to come alive, albeit in your memories. Pausing at every page, you tried to live those moments once again ,just like every year. Though you and that photo album were bound by a thread of sadness, the memories it contained made you feel immense joy that was incomparable for you.
The small album was the only memory that reminded you of the family you had once! and today was the day you’ll go to meet them again.
Busan was not that far away but the location of the graveyard added a whole hour to the already 3 hour long journey. You were supposed to meet your orphan warden at the station directly and like every year she'd be accompanying you to Busan so you could meet them. Even though you were a grown-up now , she didn't had the heart to let you go alone. So it had became a tradition.
After memorizing every picture, you got up to get ready for the long journey. Taeil had excused you for this weekend so there were no worries from his side. you rotated the doorknob to open but it didn’t budge.
You shoved your body against the door but nothing happned! Though you didn't want to rely , there was only one option left!
"yuta!" You shouted in a hope that his lazy ass would respond but silence replied instead.
"yuta! Can you hear me. I'm locked!" You tried again, both shouting and trying the knob, banged the door but none worked in your favour.
Then realisation dawned on you! Why won't he hear anything when he was right outside the room! because he didn't want to!
"yuta I swear I'm gonna kill you! let me out!"
Raking your hands through your hair, you decided to find your phone but it looked like the whole universe was conspiring against you as the phone was not in the room. you had probably left it on the kitchen counter earlier. The only communication you had was with yuta and he was not listening to you , delibrately!
Your fist met the door with all the power you could muster but only the echo was heard which fainted within few seconds.
"fuck you yuta" you mumbled dejectedly before throwing yourself on the mattress. Contempt filled your heart as you watched the fan moving endlessly and your mind grasped the reality that maybe you won't be visiting them. Not if he didn't open the door. But he couldn't lock you for years!
And whenever that door opens , you'll make sure to close it forever.
"eat slugs , haechan!" Yuta exclaimed into the microphone, killing another of haechan's Avatar in the game. He winced as haechan groaned loudly, trying to get some pity out of yuta.
Calling it a day, he teared the headphones away , the sudden silence bringing peace to his ears. Stretching his limbs, he got up but as he trudged for the kitchen, he heard a knock that didn't come from the front door.
He stopped abruptly as if to check if his mind was playing games on him but he heard it again, this time a fainted one.
His stopped in front of your room and slapped his hand against the door , checking his suspicious. Another fast and hard bang came in response and he rotated the knob to open but nothing happened. Forcing his body against the door, a metal dropping sound reached him before the door opened. Without even glancing at you, he leaned and picked up the screws that were stuck in the door hinges. But before he could show you those, you pushed him backward, releasing all the anger at once.
"what the fuck is wrong with you!" Not paying any attention to any of his words, you searched for your phone that you found on the counter and shot your warden an apologetic message. The orphan was near the station so you were sure she won't have waited for more than thirty minutes but you knew she'd have been worried for you.
Quickly working , you called taeyong while running for the main door, a confused yuta following you.
"you are home taeyong?" You asked him while wearing your shoes and exited , ignoring yuta's perplexed questions.
Yuta stood in the doorway, contemplating what the heck he had witnessed!
18:30
Taeyong jerked forward on his chair as you slammed open the door of his office and marched in. When you called earlier , he thought you were going to complain about something that yuta did but the heat of the anger radiating through your body was enough to burn his senses from a distance.
"sit and calm-
"I'm not here to witness your hospitality Lee taeyong. Relieve me of the agreement here and now. my way or your way! I don't wanna live under the same roof wi-
"why are you shouting so much?" Jaehyun interrupted ,entering the room in a swift motion. Following him were few others who might have been awakened by your outburst.
"shut up jaehyun! For once do something with your worthless life" you spit out, eyes boring into jaehyun's.
"can you atleast tell me what has happened!"
To answer taeyong , you moved forward, resting your hands on the head of a chair continued,
"yuta locked me today. My phone was outside in the kitchen. I shouted , pleaded but he didn't open the door for 5 hours. I was supposed to go to Busan but that motherfucker don't ha-
"Busan? Your hometown?" Taeyong disrupted your speech,
"f-for my parents' death anniversary! I was suppose to visit their graves like every year.b-but he chose today of all days to play his little revenge games on me." With broken voice and tears threatening to spill, you managed to proceed,
"i don't wanna live with him anymore. I didn't sign up for this torture. Kill me for all you want but don't try to convince me into staying with that bastard!" Your nails holed into the leather chair, creating small crescents on the surface.
Uncomfortable silence fell over the whole room . As you turned around to leave, you were met with yuta's figure. His hand motioned to reach you but you closed the distance before he could.
"i hope you enjoyed it today!" With venom laced words, you finalised your proposition by flinging the ring straight into his face, his face scrunching at the hit , before walking past him.
"hyun-
Before taeyong could complete, taeil was already was on your heels.
"why do you have to be an asshole yuta?"
" i didn't do anything!" He started as he picked up the ring from the floor, “the door was ja-
“you shouldn’t have stooped so low nakamoto yuta!” tayeong growled with eyes glistening with fire.
“what now?” yuta’s jaw clenched at jaehyun’s nonchalant words. Pocketing his annoyance for him, he opened his mouth to explain himself,
“nothing now ok! I did nothing.i didn’t lock her and certainly didn’t try to forbid from going anywhere. She wa- the door was jammed due to some loose screws. I had to push it so it’d open. I-i-I wasn’t even aware of her plans. Heck, you can ask hyuck. I was playing with him for 6 hours straight. I had headphones in my ears all that time and you know how much hyuck yells. Even if she was stuck, there was not a sound that reached me taeyong. I was as oblivious to all this as much as you all were till now and knowingly, I won’t ever do anything so harsh. You know me very well! don’t you?” he ended with a hopeful question glancing at everyone in the room. With each passing second, his anxiousness elevated at the silent and calculating faces of everyone.
“you don’t believe me, do you?” his broken voice resembled the one they just heard few minutes ago.
“no yuta.i-its not like that . message taeil hyung about all this so he can calm her down.” Taeyong muttered with eyes searching up yuta’s for any malice he might be planning but found nothing. he was innocent.
But yuta panicked at his words, “why? I can explain by myself. It’s not that difficult. I can handle her taeyong.” he turned for the door but taeyong’s words stopped him in his tracks.
“you think so! You should be glad you are alive yuta”
“then release us taeyong. I’m begging you, LET HER GO!” the shout that echoed was enough to send shivers through every living being in the vicinity.
“I will. If taeil hyung say so. Message him yuta and you should know I don’t repeat my words without expense!”
He did as told, head hung low to avoid the pity looks that were thrown his way!
“don’t follow me taeil!”
“I’ll stop if you’ll stop!” taeil politely replied, tracking your steps on the sidewalk. He tried to obstruct your way but ended up following you instead. 15 minutes had passed since you both left the house but your anger was not simmering down and you were stunned at his patience.
“you can’t walk till university.” You deadpanned.
“neither can you.”
Stopping abruptly, you faced him, “you can’t stop me taeil.”
“I won’t. but the bus driver would. Even pretty girls don’t get a free ride home.” You groaned at his unnecessarily true words. He was right, you had nothing on you except for the phone.
He silently observed your slumping body, before walking a step closer to check the waters. When you didn’t push him away, he lightly took your hand in his, tugging you to come along.
“I don’t wanna go with you.” your hushed voice gave him some courage to proceed further,
“we aren’t going home. Lets just sit”
He dragged you to the park you had passed just five minutes ago. Sitting on the bench , he asked you to explain everything that had happened in the last 6 hours. You recited the whole story till the end where you threw the ring at yuta. Taeil only hummed in response when he heard a buzz from his phone.
Reading yuta’s message , he suddenly knew where to start!
“read this y/n.” he said before giving you the phone.
You absorbed each and every word written. It made sense. But did it?
“he’s lying.” You scoffed , returning the phone.
“he’s not.”
“ofcourse you’ll take his side.”
“and why would I do that?”
“he’s your brother”
“and you are my sister”
“no I’m not. I never would be.” You retorted, hiding the effect his words had on you.
“I might not be your brother but you can’t stop me from calling you my sister and I’d prefer you over yuta anyday.”
“but you still think I’m lying and he’s right”
Taeil massaged the back of his neck, clearly getting annoyed by your snapping.
“when did I say you are lying? I just said he’s not lying.”
“isn’t it the same thing?”
“no its clearly not. You just don’t wanna admit that you misunderstood!”
Uncrossing your legs, you faced him, “ because I am not in the wrong here. he is ! he did it so he can have the house all to himself while I’m locked. The truth is he hates my guts. He wont ever pass an opportunity against me!”
“and like you love his guts! Your hatred for him is the reason that you don’t wanna believe he’s innocent. Your heart wants to believe that everything that had unfolded after that night is yuta’s fault. You don’t wanna believe because you just don’t want to! You are rejecting his reason because your mind says its the perfect chance to break taeyong! your anger and emotions are playing games with you and you are letting them! and this is exactly what yuta had been doing from the very first day! He’s no different than you. No matter how much you discard it, the truth won’t change! Impulsive actions lead you nowhere!” His polite yet authoritative voice was providing inputs that you didn’t want to believe. Not yet.
“I just wanted to go to busan taeil. If he hadn’t been home the-
“if he hadn’t been home , then you would not have even made it out! And I’m sure you have heard him playing games. He’s a loudspeaker and believe me haechan is yuta part two. I’m sure he didn’t hear you.”
“but why would anyone even care! I’m the one at loss here.”
“what loss. Just because you missed it today doesn’t mean you can’t go tomorrow and If you want i can take you there. we can go right now! But y/n , loved ones live in your heart!. You don’t need a day to show them your respect and love. They know you and they watch over you. don’t crumble under the weight of customs and rituals. We’ll go tomorrow morning. Be ready by 8 a.m !” his soothing voice managed to calm the storm but you weren’t going to budge from your first condition.
“I don’t wanna go back with him.”
He sighed heavily before pressing his phone to his ear,
“taeyong. replace yuta in france. For two months and I don’t want any further discussion.”
You sniffled, finally letting out the tears that were in the waiting since the morning.
“I can drop you to the dorm for tonight until he packs his stuff and you can go back home tomorrow. Sounds right?” he described his plan , petting your hair.
You weakly nodded, letting him ease your worries with sympathetic words that you didn’t even know you needed!
next morning
Uncomfortable silence welcomed you as you entered the house. You were told that he was gone and it sounded about right with the present atmosphere.
After finding the fruits, you made you way to the room but stopped in your tracks as you spotted something on the counter.
Three moulded screws were placed on a paper along with the ring that you thought would never be seen by you again. you breath quickened as you read the words on the plain paper
I’m sorry!
What were you supposed to do with it now?

pachinko
History has failed us, but no matter.
On 13th March, I wrote in my reading journal: "How I love this book. It is far from perfect, the narrative and stylistic choices sometimes annoy me, but they all pale in comparison with the story that's being told." It's been two weeks since I finished this book and yet, I still try to come to the terms with the fact that this book pulled the heart out of my chest, stepped on it, only to hand it back mended and anew, in the only way a great book knows how to do.
This book is quiet. It sneaks up on you through its simple prose and its simple characters. It starts unassuming, following the events in the life of a family in Korea in the 20th century. They lead a quiet life in a country both torn by war and under the occupation of the Japanese, struggling to make ends meet. They are not the extraordinary people we love to read about, but the people's history fails to remember most times than not because they leave no written evidence of their days behind. And this is what makes the book this special. Pachinko tells the story of a family, spanning four generations, three countries and nearly 100 years. It is a mix of history (so much of which I was ignorant, and now I am humbled by), very well written characters driven by their motivations and action so well-paced you don’t realise it’s over, even when you turned the last page. It is a book about all the forms love can take, it is about regret, longing for romantic love and yearning for better days. And most importantly, it is a book about a mother’s love, a mother’s strength, a mother who took care of her own people even at the expanse of her well-being. More than this, Pachinko is the untold story of the Korean immigrants living in Japan in the 20th century. It speaks of the hardship they endured in a foreign country, at the mercy of a nation that did not understand them. And this part of their history is what shapes the lives of most of the characters present in this book. Sunja is the catalyst of the story, of most of the plot that spans 531 pages, but she is not the main character. Each one of the characters present in this book is important in their own way, and whilst the omniscient narrator- a narrator that knows the point of view of each character at all time- is not my favourite, I can understand why Min Jin Lee has chosen it for this story. This book is not about character growth, it is not about good or bad people. It doesn’t offer a moral resolution, but it has its moments of clarity, starting with Sunja, who taps into her inherent strength that moves the story forward. It is the kind of strength cultivated by her relationship with her kindhearted father and her hardworking mother. It is a strength that propels her forward to provide a better life for her family, a strength that was always part of her. The plot builds organically around her and the other characters, propelled by their motivations and choices, choices that have their own consequences. This book is about people and how they deal with what life throws at them in whatever way they can, with the information they have available at hand. And, after all, is it not real life that? And because every great beginning must have a great ending, Pachinko doesn’t disappoint. It starts with a family; it ends with a family. The characters stay with you long after you close the book, and they are not loud, they do not bang at the door of your soul asking for attention. You remember them as you carry on with your life, doing the best you can, because they did, too, go on with their lives, doing the best they could.
