Like I know you’re talking about my omegaverse AU but I’m not sure if you’re referring to my actual AU or the Trojan spin-off. It sounds more like you’re referring to my side idea of omega Ody being kidnapped by Paris to Troy so okay-

I think Ody would actually be a lot more clever about his heats & would try to conceal them as much as possible, whether that be by frequently washing/changing his clothes and/or using copious perfume or ancient scent blockers.

And if not that, he could try prolonging his period of pre-heat to confuse the alphas in the Trojan palace as much as possible. Maybe he does this with herbal remedies that can partially suppress a heat, or he knows how to mimic the mannerisms of an omega approaching their heat- ex. increased purring & scent marking

Tricking the palace into thinking he’s near-heat has a few advantages. One, Odysseus can eavesdrop more easily because its Ancient Times and no one thinks a horny omega has even two brain cells to rub together. When they all think he's just a dumb himbo, Ody can steal supplies he needs more easily, or even seduce the palace guards into giving him access to places he shouldn't be in.

Cue Odysseus' many failed escape attempts from Troy. (Stealing a length of rope to scale the wall to freedom, stealing a knife and slitting a guard's throat so he can take a horse from the stable, seducing another to gain access to Troy's underground servant tunnels, etc.) The only reason why they're failed attempts is bc Priam is really smart and Hector is an extraordinarily talented warrior, and together they can just barely keep omega Ody in containment.

Omega Odysseus in heat is a different beast. If Ody in my actual AU has be to locked aboard one of his ships while in heat during the Trojan War, then he's 100% getting locked in Troy's dungeon while he's with them.

Granted, they prettied it up for him by cleaning the old blood and grime off the walls, giving him tons of soft bedding, keeping Paris far away from him, and providing him with a vast assortment of snacks and hand-carved dildos to bounce on.

Ody's horny phase lasts a few hours, maybe even a day if the Trojans are lucky. But once he begins to grow frustrated bc the dildos just can't satisfy him like his Penelope can, omega Odysseus is breaking out no matter how hard they try to barricade his cell. Somehow, perhaps with Athena's help, they always end up with a naked Odysseus running through the halls and ripping out throats with his bare teeth.

He won't rest until he either A) has his alpha back or B) has killed Paris. He would prefer both, but since Ody can probably only get B because Penelope is leading the forces from Ithaca outside of Troy's walls, he'll take it.

Whenever Ody escapes containment, which is quite often, Paris is told to hide while literally an entire battalion of fully-armored Trojan soldiers is sent to capture the omega. His heat doesn't make him the addled, boneless, whimpering pet that they expect an omega to be. He's quick and merciless, fueled by his instinctual rage at being separated from his mate and infant son.

Even when he's captured, Ody's still got a few tricks left. Sometimes, he'll cry out in pain and feign an injury. Since he's technically married to Paris and considered Trojan royalty, one of the guards or soldiers would have no choice but to venture closer to check on him.

From there, it's easy for Ody's canines to find flesh and for his nimble fingers to snatch the dagger or sword from the poor man's side.

After the Trojans start getting wise to Odysseus' ways, they basically form a union. They already have enemies at their gates, seemingly every able-bodied man in Greece (plus Penelope), but now they have a monster in their midst. One that is slowly killing them off from within their own palace.

Return the omega to his homeland, they say to their king. Or else they will simply refuse to fight any longer.

Bonus: If we're following my AU where Troy isn't sacked by the end of the war, then by the time Ody gets to leave, they'll have probably started to let omegas into their army. Something about viewing them as the most terrifying and ruthless warriors imaginable.

Rhaenyra weakly asking Daemon if he accept her as his queen and ruler… Daemon refusing to respond... I get now why Matt Smith said that Daemon is only loyal to his dragon (not even loyal to his own children, insane), it was significant.

I believe HotD will justify this as her response to him going behind her back and flouting her authority to have B&C in the same vein as him not going to her while she was birthing Visenya, when he shouted at her during the other first black council meeting, him choking her, etc. that this will be her finally confronting him abt all that...

Goes to show how, unlike how some people argued that the choke scene was somehow an extension of their sex together, their "kinky eroticism" or something along those lines, that scene in particular really is & has always been abt Daemon disrespecting and domestically abusing Rhaenyra since episode 10. Because honestly, how much sense does it make for Rhaenyra to be full on questioning his loyalty to her NOW of all times, when they have been married for 6 whole goddamn years (10 in the orig canon)? How we see Daemon's tenderness to her in episode 8 & 7? Her paranoia isn't supposed to really manifest that bad until we get towards the END of the war!!! At least after the Ulf the White/Hugh the Hammer betrayals!

Which is why as much as I love Matt Smith and him as Daemon, I gave 3 shits abt show!Daemyra after that scene beyond their most harmonic moments, like the wedding and their first time having sex/the talk right before/the brothel scene and the necklace Milly wore. Some HotD Daemyra artwork.

Daemon taking his time to answer could be either his getting frustrated with her doubt bc of the last few episodes where he shows such OR he's doing as he did with Laena and just more focused on his own goals and putting Rhaenyra second/last. Either way, it reflects really badly on Rhaenyra's character and thinking skills...which could come from grief and her doubt fostered by Viserys and her life with Alicent at court. Like real bad. As well as on HotD's writing.

Or as others noted, it could just be a trailer thing where they extend the bit for longer than its already too long period for our stress. Still, the pause was there...

REVERSE ENGINEERING THE PURPOSE OF THE CROWN OF ILLUSIONS

just hear me out. then you can tell me if im insane.

in bloodborne, there is a unique piece of head wear called "the crown of illusions". it serves a single purpose: to open an illusory wall revealing the location of an otherwise entirely hidden NPC, annalise, queen of the vilebloods.

the crown is dropped after a boss battle and you are intended to put it on immediately after the fight so that the fake wall can be revealed in a cut scene. they did NOT want you to miss this mechanic. otherwise, why not simply have the throne room blocked by a fog gate? its fine for other bosses, right?

this mechanic is never used again. this is insanely weird because 1. there are other illusory walls in the game specifically in the chalice dungeons (twice, i believe, in the lowest possible levels). however, they function like standard fromsoft illusory walls and are revealed by hitting them with a weapon. the crown does nothing. and 2. there is otherwise no satisfactory explanation for this mechanic at all.

i have often expressed my frustration that when things dont "line up" in fromsoft games its chalked up to dev error or some flavor of "its all dreams/made up" which i refuse to entertain unless its the last possible explanation barring literally all others. this stupid crown has been bothering me for years because of how seemingly inexplicable it is. this has been doubled by the fact that the crown is not unique; alfred leaves a crown of his own (and must have had it to enter the queen's chambers) at the end of his quest and the titular sages of the "sage's hair" item are depicted as wearing crowns.

visually, the sage items are based off the real life concept of catacomb saints (and, in fact, i think "saint" would have been a better translation over "sage" considering this, but thats neither here nor there), hence the gems and jewels and crowns and shit. that part makes sense to me just fine. but where else would this illusion mechanic have been used?

ill tell you where: in the secret 4th layers of the "canon" (non-root) chalice dungeons!

canonically, there is only one chalice dungeon with a 4th layer, otherwise they all end at layer 3. this also intrigued me bc of its irregularity in a system of "dungeons" that are almost entirely copy-pasted rooms; why choose a completely random chalice in the middle of the sequence have an extra layer?

i came up with my own explanation for this that works a treat: the chalice in question, lower pthumeru, has rom the vacuous spider as its THIRD LAYER boss. rom is a boss you would have first encountered outside of the dungeons who has a unique ability: to block rituals and secrets from sight. the rom you fight in the main story is hiding a secret ritual and killing her reveals the ritual to the world. the rom you fight in the dungeons is hiding a secret layer of the labyrinth wherein the hunter will find a truly terrible secret: the source of the beast blood.

we now know this fourth layer IS narratively intended to be a secret layer...because EVERY story-related chalice dungeon had a secret 4th layer! they are "fully functional" if not a bit odd/broken (but not NEARLY not to the point of other hacked dungeons) but with bosses that either fucking suck or are placeholders (...or im coping lol). but look at this: ive timestamped this video at the point where the 4th layer elevator "reveals" itself!

other boss room exits are simply blocked by a fog wall (or, if you're on the last layer, it dead ends and you use the lamp to warp out). this "fade in" effect is the illusory reveal effect! as the linked post from the eternally fascinating hard work from r/tombprospectors reveals, there is some weird ass shit in these layers. enough that i started a red string wall of madness to try to keep track of it all. its not even weird stuff in a game dev way, i mean weird in a plot and lore way. its awesome lol.

the 4th layers were only discovered within the last 2 years. i am confident now about the mechanics of how this was intended to work, but still shaky on the ~lore implications~. what were kings and saints only permitted to see and access? what were they privy to that the rest of the populace of the dead civilization was not?

LORE THEORY: THE ORIGINAL PURPOSE AND USE OF THE CROWN OF ILLUSIONS WAS TO REVEAL SECRET 4TH LAYERS OF THE CHALICE DUNGEONS, AS EVIDENCED BY THEIR EXISTENCE IN THE GAME CODE AND MEANS OF ACCESS. Now, I maybe misremembering bc I haven’t watched nart in years, but thinking back on it it’s crazy how little Sakura mattered to team 7s overall dynamic. It makes me so mad bc this team should be like a family but she was barely even friends with sasuke pre shippuden.

she is literally Never friends with sasuke ToT they get MARRIED and i still find it hard to believe he even likes being around her. i genuinely cannot remember a SINGLE one-on-one interaction she has with sasuke that can't be effectively described as "sakura is in love with him and he doesn't give a shit". gen the closest we get to that is after his fight with naruto when he apologizes to her for being such an asshole and she tells him that he should be sorry. THAT WAS EPIC. but anyways he def does care about her in the sense of "she is part of team 7 and i don't want her to die", but he doesn't consider her a friend. kakashi cares about her, but even though he trains one on one with both naruto And sasuke and teaches them both important skills that become staples of their fighting styles, he never does this with sakura, and she ends up training mostly under tsunade instead once team 7 dissolves for the 2.5 year naruto is off with jiraiya (i do like that she trained under tsunade and i like the stuff she learned (also because i love tsunade <33) but it def does emphasize how she just for some reason does not get solo lessons from kakashi)

i will defend her friendship with naruto though because those two def are like real actual friends and i think they're very cute, i love their interactions in shippuden especially during the arc where sai first joins them when theyre both grappling with sasuke being replaced, its just just suchhh a good display of how close they are and how much they love each other and how they rly are in this thing together. but ofc that said, esp because their best interactions are all in shippuden where team 7 is more or less dissolved, this doesnt really like. make her feel like a big part of team 7 bc as soon as sasuke is there naruto kind of forgets she exists mostly. so her contribution to the overall dynamic like you said is not really saved by the fact that naruto considers her a close friend.

whats especially frustrating is at the very start of the series, she's BETTER at controlling her chakra than naruto and sasuke. she immediately aces the walk-up-a-tree assignment, kakashi comments on her cleverness, etc, but as soon as the action starts she gets sidelined, Every Time. she spends half the battles they have as a team either 1) immediately incapacitated or 2) in the back guarding someone/something so that she can't be part of the actual combat. i did ofc ofc love love love the final scene in the fight vs kaguya when she joins naruto and sasuke in landing the final blow and kakashi is watching from the sidelines thinking about how much he loves them, oohouuh he loves them .. but ofc she'd been sidelined the whole battle with a feeew epic moments here and there so it did sort of feel like ok ladies ill throw you a bone. she can do one (1) punch ^_^ then she's getting ditched again though while naruto and sasuke collaborate on the most heartwrenching scenes of the entire series.

it rly is because kishimoto refused to define her character beyond having a crush on sasuke whenever they're on screen at the same time so her ability to contribute to the team dynamic was rly hurt. kakashi and sasuke SAYING that they care about her is great etc but i really wish they'dve SHOWED it more beyond having to protect her when she inevitably gets taken out faster than anybody else. this is why ep 101 (kakashi's mask ep) will always be famous

Firstly YES hand sewing a quilt would take forever (which if course you'd know more about than me who's never made one lmao) which in part is the goal!! You're stuck in the depths of space for a long time with little to do in between planet trips, and immortal, so you need a long lasting hobby.

Of course, some specific Jonny Headcanon reasons as to why he'd handsew this quilt- one, I don't believe he'd use any machines ever for sewing. Which sounds ridiculous considering what genre we're in, I know, but I think he'd have a problem with constantly accidentally breaking them, and also despising the maintenance like idk replacing the needles and whatnot.

Also, I think this is the one single calming hobby he has. Yeah hand sewing can get frustrating, but its also pretty meditative. I think Jonny spends so much time going hard and fast, being an adrenaline junkie and whatnot, that it's just neat to see him do something calm. The sewing machines make him very not calm, being so fast paced, but the constant slow reputation he can control? It's, idk probably nice.

Now also- I think Jonny has made plenty of quilts and other sewing projects across the millennia, but I also believe there's one big quilt-like project that's never ending. There's this one giant blanket-quilt thing with all types of fabric materials and patterns and colors, from all different systems and planets.

It's meant to be a collection of, well, everything? Their experiences, their lives, and themselves. They take clothing scraps and old blankets and curtains or new stolen material from markets. Jonny combines it all together slowly over time into one giant mess were you can't tell the start from it's end. He's always adding to it somehow, and honestly by this point it's pretty damn ugly (and no one other than Nastya needs to know he started working on this shortly after running off with Carmilla and has been adding to it ever since) but that's the charm. It's not anywhere near as pretty as Jonny's other works, but it's full of life and history. Also polymechs agenda here bc it's perfect for the entire gang cuddling together in a common room. All the other mechs will save cool fabric pieces they find for Jonny to add.

(If you have a keen eye, you can find many keepsakes. The silk sheets Marius stole from Dionysus. A piece of the rebel's flag during King Cole's war that no one remembers adding and Jonny claimed to be a gift from the narrative for their first album. Scraps of soldiers' uniforms for both sides of the Lunar Wars that The Toy Soldier snagged, including Bertie's. Gawain's shirt that Tim stole and has yet to elaborate on how.)

Eventually, The Bifrost Incident happens, and instead of the trio bringing the fabric of the prison uniforms they refused to ever wear, or an officer's uniform or anything, they bring Lyfrassir.

Lyfrassir who had so little with them, but somehow with the right scrap materials to add to said quilt. Their memories and home forever immortalized in a narrative album, and a never ending quilt held close to heart by the entire crew. A crew that now included Lyfrassir as they snuggle underneath this quilt with everyone else, mending it's frays beside the self assigned captain of this crew.

I realized that I headcanon Lyfrassir to enjoy sewing (mainly to make and mend their own clothes) and that I also still headcanon that Jonny can sew and does so often, so now I am picturing the two bonding by hand sewing on the same quilt together like old ladies.

Specifically this picture of them on a couch bundled under a half finished giant quilt, sewing on it together. If anyone directly mentions it at all Jonny will immediately shoot them down.

Jonny also loves having someone else on board who enjoys sewing, and furthermore makes sewing enjoyable so he isn't reminded of New Texas as much when he works with Lyf, and he also just enjoys hanging out with Lyf. He would never admit that out loud. This is part of my "Lyf slowly wins over the entire crew of the Aurora by being themself and being coincidentally immortal" agenda :)

The way the larger dsmp fandom treats dream absolutely drives me nuts. Like, in my eyes, he's changed so much. Like, was he a good person when he was younger, no. But that is mostly due to his environment and then some continued ignorance, but that's normal. When you're raised to believe one thing, it takes a lot to unlearn. And he has. He isn't the same person he was when he was 16, even 20 y/o him is very different

But what drives me absolutely insane, especially as an ex-sbi main (I still love the cc's but the fandom is awful), Wilbur is Dream's foil.

So like, but foil I mean the English literature concept of two characters/people who are mirror images of each other but at some point made a slightly different desicion and therefore turned out different

Honestly there so much I could say about all this, like about the environment they were both raised in and how SBI and dteam as a whole are actually very interesting foils but this is just about Wilbur and Dream

Wilbur when he was Dream's age, was pretty much exactly like Dream. Just, not a good person, saying things he shouldn't and whatnot. Wilbur has said he doesn't like who he used to be. Wilbur changed, and his fans accept that.

But Wilbur stans will praise Wilbur as this morally better person, more *pure*. And he's not, he's the same if not maybe worse (I have a friend who is very disappointed in some of Wilbur's inaction when it comes to his friends but I never noticed this so I won't comment, just this might be a more general feeling)

Wilbur has the infamous line of "teenage girls can't enjoy anything" which great amazing agreed needs to be said.

But they sing a different time when Dream says that he supports stan and stan culture because stans get a bad rep. They say that stans are evil and are crazy and shouldn't exist. But teenage girls makeup a huge part of stan culture. Pick one. You don't get to cheer Wilbur and boo Dream for the same statement.

They look at Wilbur and see only good. And then they look at Dream and see only bad, when he was the same age as their precious golden boy when he made similar mistakes. The only difference being Dream was unfortunately more online and for Dream age 18 was only 5 years ago and for Wilbur that was 8 years ago.

This one has a little less meaning, but this opinion would get me flamed alive on twitter. I would rather listen to Roadtrip over all of Are You Alright. The only song I liked on there was cause for concern and they mixed it poorly.

And twitter would flame me for having an opinion cause it's Dream and Wilbur.

And it drives me insane. I hate it, your streamer is no better nor no worse than mine (sidenote, I hate the concept of morality among the streamers cause they're just people at the end of the day and yes some of them can turn sour but overall most streamers are pretty solid)

But it gets worse cause once, maybe end of summer 2021, a video surfaced of Wilbur saying the t-slur. And yes there was immediate backlash, but also there was "lets wait and see what Wilbur says" meanwhile for anything Dream does, there is no grace offered. The same people who extended an olive branch to Wilbur flames Dream alive and then refuses to listen to a word he says. I hate it, I hate that side of the fandom and what it's become.

(the running gag of her being so proper and pretty in public vs in the lab when shes a mess, too) + queen and arilla both being the worst at fighting. the episode where pereskia, worried queen might not do so well if shes not there to act as a body guard, tries to teach her to fight and its the most pathetic flailing youve ever seen in your life. she gets a LITTLE sweaty and just curls up bc its TOO HARD and shes SORE and doesnt want to be sweaty anymore :( (she has done (1) push-up, with shaky arms)

-sapote and cara being an entire comedic duo. cara's culture shock abt the aliens vs sapote never being shocked by humans bc shes so down for anything. (all of the other aliens are shocked by how unphased sapote always is) sapote and her sister being SOOO opposites (her sister is older, more mature, and way sweeter. and also a crybaby) +the daycare shenanigans vs how...it would very quickly devolve into an r rated series if sapote was the main focus and we werent around any kid or teen charas jkdhfkj it would turn into. magical girl rick and morty im sorry to say but its the truth

-saguaro and queen's little passive aggressive talks every time they speak to each other. PERHAPS deep blue will tell them to put a tack on your chair.

-erdisia having to take a workplace sensitivity class bc she keeps trash talking humans. sure, we want to kill ALL OF THEM, but! you ought to speak nicer abt them when cara's around!!! :/ (none of them see the irony in this btw except arilla whos regularly just staring directly into the camera like :\ ) every ep she tries to sabotage cara so SHE can work with sapote senpai instead. this is always thwarted in extremely looney toons fashion and its so frustrating to her but hilarious to watch. tunillo is in the same sensitivity class. but they, and this is important, cannot STAND each other and refuse to believe they have any of the same issues (or their humanphobia is even an issue)

-tunillo refusing to sleep for a week and starts being increasingly paranoid and hallucinating things on the screens he monitors bc hes so sleep deprived. so every other hour hes setting off red alerts and everyones panicked trying to find the. fake threats...that increasingly become more absurd...but by the end everyones incredibly unhinged and worn out by the end because theyve been on high alert all day...so they dont believe tunillo when he spots team tm2 actually breaking into the ship HAHA

-cara catches a (mild, normal) human cold, and everyone else catches it and are convinced theyre gonna die of Human Cooties. rip. and like, queen is a doctor. like, shes a scientist, and shes a doctor, technically speaking! but no one with a brain* TRUSTS her to do regular doctor things (*sapote and arilla are outliers adn should not be counted.) but in the event of everyone getting sick, she WANTS to play doctor!!! please just let her poke you with a LITTLE needle 🥺 she wont do anything weird she promisessss u wont wake up tomorrow glowing purple or anything 🥺🥺🥺

(well. sapote does, and cara is obligated to follow her) so it stands to reason they just. they just gotta get the fingerprint of someone who DOES have that clearance! like arilla! sapote knocks him over the head and the entire episode is them trying to weekend at burnies him around to explore the ships more closed off areas. but they keep being stopped by EVERYONE because EVERYONE needs SOMETHING from arilla, all of the time. forever.

-the running joke of erdisia being some kind of Creeture, like. why is she like that in general? crouched in the rafters hissing. can someone get her down. shes tiny but so so so mean. there would be erdisia roast comp videos of all her sickest burns.

armin automatically believes its bc of something he did :/ he assumes that he could've been better, that this wouldn't have happened if he was somebody else. he wishes you would have communicated with him, told him what to do and how to do it. he’d change who he was to his core if it meant being someone that you wanted. he doesn't agree with what you did, but he cant necessarily blame you, either. if he could leave himself too, he would. 

jean feels like he should've known better, should’ve seen it coming. he’s used to being second best, so he should have expected something like this from you. he curses himself for getting so caught up in what he thought was a real love. for the first time, it felt like someone was genuinely choosing him first; he hates himself for letting that go to his head and making him blind to the truth of the situation. it just reaffirms his prior beliefs. if you thought he was closed off before? he swears he’ll never love again after this 

connie thinks its a joke at first. he trusts people a bit too easily in general, so as his partner, he trusted you with every fiber of his being. he fully believed that you were handcrafted by the gods and sent down to earth for him to learn to love. so when he finds out that you were capable of something this fucking cruel, he genuinely doesn't believe it. thinks its a joke, because you wouldn't do that to him. his lover (or the version of them that he created in his mind) would never hurt him like that. 

reiner is extremely hurt, but is still willing to make this work. he knows what its like to be in the wrong, to be the betrayer. so he understands you. he thinks he deserves it. he’s always willing to see both sides of the story; he’d rather forgive you than lose you. he’s willing to swallow his pride and humiliation all at the same time, if it means not ending up alone again. he’d settle to be your second best, because to him, its better than nothing :/

Ye! It’s still kind of a wip with my canon so things do change but some general things abt my cotl canon is this

My Lambs Name Solange ( She/They ) and she absolutely hates being a cult leader and later on goddess but was forced to for the former and for the latter they wanted to survive along with being heavily pissed off at Nari due to feeling betrayed since she assumed that after she slain the bishops and give him back the crown she’d be made mortal again/retire like Ratau ( she was planning to leave the lands of old faith with her first follower and only real friend Ellena )

I have two “ timelines “ on what she does with Nari but the main one is she spares him ( mainly bc she didn’t want her followers to see her killing him esp due to the fact one of her followers at that time is a kid ( I also have this whole thing abt Solange not being comfortable having kids in her cult/flock but in this followers case Solange couldn’t bear to leave her alone in silk cradle ) ) and takes out her anger/ frustration on him ( mainly verbally/emotionally )

Solange has moral ocd which when you’re a cult leader is not good at all so they’re constantly feeling guilty. Post Naris usurp Solange tries to make her cult less of a cult and more of a community ( they call it a Flock ) but knows those cult roots won’t fully go away and she hates it.

Aym has a huge case of Stockholm syndrome regarding Nari. He idolizes him to an insanely unhealthy degree and sees him almost like a father figure since he never knew his actual father. He’s the first out of the two brothers to be bought into the Flock and hoo boy he is not happy at Solange and basically is kind of a menace during most of his stay in the Flock ( even moreso than Nari who at this point is just really fucking tired of everything and is most likely self isolating ( he does have an arc but idk when it starts ) ).

Solange surprisingly has a lot of patience for him due to the fact she knows he’s going through a lot of shit and also can relate to the fact they both had their childhoods ripped from them ( Solange with the fact her parents got killed when she was young and then her remaining family members being killed as a teen. She also lived with a farmer for a while who was a real creepy piece of shit who was borderline grooming her for marriage and when she refused/retaliated he either kicked her out or sold her out to be executed and Aym with the fact he and Baal were ripped from their mother at a young age to essentially become Naris bodyguards/disciples ) granted that patience wears thin sometimes which results in some arguements but Solange genuinely wants to help him though it’s hard when he’s refusing any help

Aym also sticks to Nari like glue which is very very annoying for Nari who just wants to be left the hell alone. Somewhere down the line this dialogue exchange happens with Solange and Nari ( btw i have no clue if Baal is bought back when this happens yet ) ( for some context i wholeheartedly believe Nari was being geniuine here when he said that he didn't care for them, not particularly out of maliciousness as he doesn't hate them but rather holds no strong feelings towards if that makes sense )

which Aym overhears and is absolutely crushed. At first he denies it and decides to try and prove his worth to Nari which results in even more fights both with Solange's followers and the enemies/heretics ( during missionaries and sometimes unprompted ). He starts to get injured often which worries Solange and she confronts him about it which results in Aym challenging her to a duel ( the rule being no using crown as weapon ) which Solange reluctantly agrees to. So the duel happens ( for some context its kinda similar to the fight pit ritual but with the addition of weapons ) and Solange is victorious. Aym ends up breaking down really bad in front of all her followers + Nari. Solange panics and ushers everyone out of the temple and tries to comfort Aym, he resists at first but eventually caves and tells her that he overheard fact Nari didn't care about him. This causes Solange to get even more pissed at Narinder and demands him to talk to Aym about this. Narinder does and tells Aym point blank that he did not care for him or Baal. This sets Aym off real bad which results in a huge fight where intervention was needed Afterwards Aym is essentially a shell of himself due to all his self worth being tied to Nari ( he saw himself as nothing more than a living weapon/shield and a bodyguard to Nari ). Baal is bought to the flock sometime after the huge fight and is extremely concerned by the sudden shift in his brother's demeanor. He tries to help but to no avail as Aym starts self isolating. Baal goes to Solange and begs her to try and help Aym ( at this point she's been checking up on him occasionally but hasn't really made any progress ) and she agrees both for his sake and because she herself is worried about Aym. So she starts to take time out of her schedule to check up on Aym ( along with giving him food, water etc since Aym refuses to leave his house/hut ). It's a slow start but over time Aym opens up to Solange about a lot of things including how he doesn't even like fighting but that it's pretty much all he knows ( I'm of the belief Aym is the one with the heart of a wanderer and Baal the warrior btw ) That's pretty much all i got rn outside of the fact now Narinder has to deal with the wrath of two mentally unstable 20 somethings and Baal is kinda like " you kinda deserve it "

the thing about bookles is, right, that he’s built The Sun Summoner(tm) up in his brain as like this vague amorphous Eternal Companion(tm) of his whose going to solve all this problems and just generally be the saviour of his life. Which, yknow is some unhealthy idealization and romanticization doomed to go topside the minute he actually meets them and surprise surprise its an actual person, who is nowhere near on the same page as him. Yknow, the way it actually does.

But the thing is, while the show version of the Darkling sometimes leads us to believe he’s like planned every moment of their life post-discovery to the point where he’s had her pillow case embroidered with suns (and bookles has done this too idk). Which is again doomed to end in like three different kinds of disaster. But thing is Bookles really seems like he hasn’t bothered, or, more likely hasn’t let himself think about what the Sun Summoner means aside from these very, very vague impressions of “not aloneness” and yknow using them to expand the fold, kick off a coup detat, make them a puppet monarch, etc.

Because the thing is, while Show!sander oozes commitment and general besottedness from the first moment Alina’s revealed, Bookles seems like genuinely so upset and frustrated every time he catches himself genuinely caring about Alina. And like I have to laugh bc like Sirrrrr what did you think was going to happen? What do you think not alone means? Did you think you were about to meet some Sun Summoner and they were just going to be so dull and uninteresting that you couldn’t possibly give a shit about your supposed eternal companion who you planned to keep close for centuries??? And was that the preferable outcome for you??? Or did he, more likely, just not think about this (bc he cant (bc wanting is weak)).

Idk I just think it adds a whole new layer to Bookles and Show!sander’s characterizations. Bc like both of them make these series of stupid ass decisions that spend the rest of their lives fucking them in the ass. And both of these decisions are rooted in a desire for control and a refusal to see himself as anything fallible and others as anything but. But like idk it makes bookles seemed ever so flavoured in i invented being emotionally stunted.

you underestimated just how ticklish your electric partner is, it seems. because before you can dodge it and sero can warn you, denki pushes his chair backward, knocking you over in the process. your boyfriend whips around immediately at the sound of your body colliding with the floor.

you’re clutching your stomach with one hand, attempting (but to no avail) to silence your laughter with the other. denki rubs the back of his neck, eyes full of confusion, while he tries to regain his breath from your surprise attack. once again, he catches you off-guard as he crouches down next to you, his fingers finding your tickle spot with ease.

“no!” he practically shouts, his voice a few octaves higher than normal. he clears his throat. “n-no, you didn’t. it’s just that... heh. i’m, uh, kind of sensitive in certain spots, i guess? and while i really don’t mind you touching my scars, you were so gentle and i-i just... it tickled.”

his chin tilts toward the floor, his bashful gaze flickering away from yours. you notice the pink dusting across his freckled cheeks but decide not to point it out, desperate to make your boyfriend feel at ease again.

he nods and you remain quiet as he processes the information. then, much to your bewilderment, he leans forward and grabs ahold of your side with his fingertips. he pinches gently and you jerk, narrowing your eyes at your boyfriend smiling harmlessly. 

“so, is that your tickle spot, then?”

this is also why im really picky about how people portray them. and this goes for oilrose too. I feel like i sometimes see j and vs personalities overlapping when they really dont that much? just bc theyre the scary girls. and this isnt a consistent problem i just saw it once or twice and theyre super special to me so im using it as an excuse to talk about them.

J IS NOT LIKE V. V IS NOT LIKE J.

J is efficient. She doesn't kill for survival or even for fun, she kills because it's her job and she was made for it. She follows orders, she's responsible. There's a reason she's the leader. She's tough, but she's very stiff. She doesn't relent. This clashes a lot with Uzi, who does what she believes to be right and kills when she feels its necessary and deserved (like how she shot n, was willing to leave him to die, and killed j. twice.) but she also is unrelenting. and she's also the leader of her group, though theres much MUCH more mutual respect (which, again, clashes with J)

V, however, kills for fun and survival before meeting Uzi. She kills because it's simply what she does to live, but she also clearly finds it enjoyable. But then shifts to killing what she needs to survive, when talking to N. because she still has a lot of sympathy, especially for N. Then it turns into "we kill what we need and that thing (cyn) leaves us alone" and she was WILLING to kill uzi. The reason she didn't was because of N. Because she cared about him. She's not efficient, shes not responsible (like. at all.) and shes not as stiff and angry as J. she may be irritable, but shes not angry per se. (does that make any sense? V is like the >:) and J is the >:( DOES THAT MAKE SENSE????)

V works with Uzi because she ends up holding herself back from killing her despite everything in her screaming at her to do so. Because she loves N. But eventually that opens a door for her and Uzi to develop a real relationship.

Their personalities clash because J wants things to be right, perfect, and efficient. V just wants things to be. J holds her responsibilities and requirements higher than the people around her (and i have reasons why i think that applies to mansion j as well but. another time) while v cares more about the lives of herself and the people she cares about.

Actually, when you think about it, we haven't seen J really care for anyone other than Tessa. Which says a lot more than you'd think.

Tessa's gone. Been gone. But when "Tessa" shows up, J is once again obedient and effecient. She's frustrated when her plans are thrown up in the air, and we see that in the mansion as well. She appeals to tessa as much as she can, but when tessa asks her for help in her room, J refuses because she was ordered to. She follows what she's told, and V does everything but.

ANYWAYS! Just food for thought. I think Vuzi is different because it's built on growing to care for someone you'd sworn to kill even if it puts you, them, and your loved ones in danger, while Juzi is built on conflict and picking between love and responsibility, so I view Juzi as toxic yuri and Vuzi as enemies to lovers. (theyre both enemies to lovers but ykwim)

Idk why but labelling Vuzi as toxic yuri jsut feels incorrect to me. Juzi is toxic yuri, my friend. Vuzi is just enemies to lovers yuri. There's a difference

Korra and her Brutalization: A Legend of Korra Meta

In honor of International Womens’ Day, I want to talk a little bit about Legend of Korra and the treatment of Korra (and to a small extent other women) throughout the show. Content warning: there's some disturbing scenes that I show here, but if you've watched all of LoK, you should be fine.

Korra starts off confident; she is a young avatar who is eager to learn and feels suffocated from the isolation she is kept in from a very young age. But that doesn’t stop her, and like the headstrong girl she is, she moves to Republic City to make a difference and step into her role as the avatar.

Korra immediately starts to doubt herself; she becomes unsure of her abilities and frustrated with herself, and through that she learns to become emotionally vulnerable with Tenzin. To me, this was really great. It showed that you can be confident and vulnerable, and that the two aren’t necessarily independent of each other.

(I’m going to be honest, the 2nd season I didn’t really remember much of, so I’m just going to skip over that. Because what I really want to talk about is season 3.)

In season three, Korra faces the Red Lotus, an “anarchist” group that essentially wants to kill her. And they get pretty close. First, I want to talk about how Tenzin is beaten by the Red Lotus. This has been brought up in Lily Orchard’s (in?)famous LOK video, and while I disagree with her on many many topics of the show, I really think she has a point here. When Tenzin is being brutalized by the Red Lotus, the camera pans away. It is SO painful to see him like this, and the directors know it. It’s TOO painful to see it, so they don’t show you it, and the episode ends before we can see him be defeated.

Contrast that with Korra. They show you every detail of this. And I mean every detail.

It’s disgusting, and they refuse to treat her with any sort of decency or respect like they do Tenzin. It’s almost like they want us to enjoy her torturing. It’s genuinely gross.

People will often refute this by saying “LoK is just a darker show! Look at what they did to the Earth Queen!” And while yes, it is marketed towards an older audience, there’s still no point in brutalizing Korra this way. The main difference between Korra and the Earth Queen is that… well, Korra’s the protagonist. We’re supposed to be rooting for her, and while the Earth Queen being suffocated was definitely dark, it wasn’t unprecedented. The audience was never supposed to like the Earth Queen—she exploited and kidnapped her own people, so of course we wouldn’t care THAT much if she died. But we’ve been with Korra since the beginning. We’re supposed to want her to be happy, and why on earth would we want her to be tortured brutally in such a disgusting way that gives her absolutely no dignity? If we want her to succeed?

(here Zaheer uses the same technique used on the Earth Queen to suffocate here on Korra. for some reason)

In Season 4, the main focus is on Korra and her healing from the brutal things the Red Lotus did to her. She is clearly still struggling, and it could have been another great way to show how being physically strong and confident doesn’t mean you can’t be vulnerable. But they make a lot of bad choices in this season.

One of my main gripes is that in order to heal, she has to return to her abuser, Zaheer, and HE has to teach her how to feel better.

I don’t want to compare LoK to ATLA, although it’s very important to mention that a show that’s a direct sequel, uses its old characters, and banks off of references, should be able to be compared to its predecessor. But I think it’s important to compare Korra’s arc here to Zuko. This doesn’t come out of nowhere; Korra has a lot of similarities to Zuko. The chopping of her hair is a significant turning point in her arc, and there’s an episode called “Korra Alone” (which is clearly a direct callback; shown below).

The difference between Zuko and Katara is that, a. Zuko never had to accept his abuser, and b. Zuko started off as a villain.

One of Zuko’s major points is when he confronts his father—his abuser. He does not bow to him and give in, saying that maybe he had a few good points or his heart was in the right place, but he directly says that Ozai was wrong for what he did. This isn’t the case with Korra. For some reason, Korra has to learn to trust her abuser. The person who did this to her:

And she has to hear him out.

This leads me to my second point, and what’s basically the complaint I have; despite being a protagonist, the show treats Korra like a villain. It frames her torture scenes as if we’re supposed to be excited that she’s being brutalized, as if we’re supposed to think she deserves it. And it’s not even handled properly as one of the villains we know so well—Zuko, who was able to overcome his abuse and become a protagonist who we root for. Again, Zuko and Korra aren���t directly the same characters, but there are parallels between the two and the show encourages their comparison. When it comes to Korra, however, we’re supposed to believe that she deserves everything that comes to her; the brutal scenes and the lack of dignity, even if she is a protagonist.

And in the end, that’s what we’re meant to believe; that Korra deserved what happened to her. In the finale, Korra says, “I finally understand why I had to go through all that. I needed to understand what true suffering was, so I could become more compassionate to others.”

This is, to put it short, ridiculous. I hate this so much I can’t even begin to say how much I hate it. No, Korra did not have to go through the torture she went through. She did not have to go through the mercury poisoning. She did not have to go through every hardship she did. This “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” is so harmful because Korra’s healing revolved around accepting her abuser and thanking him for the awful things he did to her. Korra wasn’t even that cocky by the end of the first season, so what it’s essentially indirectly teaching girls is that if you’re confident, you’ll pay. It’s disgusting.

Zuko got a banishment to the Earth Kingdom, got to have his ideas and practices challenged, but he never got physically tortured. I truly, truly believe that one of the main reasons why Korra is quite literally villainized by the show is because she was a confident, brown teenage girl. None of the male characters are treated with such disrespect and we never get told that they need to be “humbled” by abuse.

This is not completely resolved to LoK; there are some aspects in ATLA that I think could’ve been fixed had there been more women in the room. I tag her a lot (bc her metas are awesome), but I really recommend you read @araeph 's Katara: Consumed by Destiny series. I also have a meta here about how Katara is treated in ATLA, specifically in “The Fortuneteller.” (I want to emphasize that while I am anti-Kataang, I don’t believe that Katara’s treatment had to do with the ship itself or that kataang is inherently anti-Katara. It’s just a note about how her character is treated in this episode and beyond.)

I’ve heard a lot of people say that they’re ‘glad’ that LoK didn’t feature Suki or Mai or Ty Lee, because they can’t imagine how poorly they’d be represented. And honestly, I can’t blame them.

This isn’t to say that we need to stop watching LOK or even ATLA. I think the internet has this weird problem where we’ve been told that the way to get rid of problematic media is to just stop consuming anything even remotely problematic altogether. But certain aspects of media will always be relatively problematic, since as content creators we sometimes input our biases into the things we create. The solution, then, is not to banish anyone who puts any harmful stereotypes into their content from society, but to actively and healthily criticize it. Bryke are not God, but they’re also not demons put on the earth to suppress woc. They’re white guys that have implicit biases that have worked their way into the content they produce. I think the lesson learned here, is to have women, especially BIWOC, in writing rooms, to prevent atrocious acts from happening to future Korra's.

lymond & themes: identity

so as you probably remember from my excessive freaking out about it, two weeks ago i finished the lymond chronicles and had mixed feelings about the ending. on the one hand these books felt like the best thing i’ve ever read but on the other they left me extremely frustrated. now that the fog is gradually lifting i want to go back and get to the bottom of why the last two books, if i try to take a rational unbiased look at them, missed the mark of my expectations so completely. i will probably make several posts about this and the first one is gonna be about lymond’s identity crisis.

(i wrote this mostly to put my thoughts in order but i’m very interested in your opinions as well, especially if you also felt let down by the ending)

at the end of pif, in an absurdly brutal type of climax only dorothy dunnett can get away with, lymond is forced to kill his own son. (i believe khaireddin is lymond’s and oonagh’s child not just bc it makes more sense thematically but also bc of this argument: although gabriel didn’t care for either child, he did arrange it so that one of them lived in relative comfort while the other one was sold into sexual slavery and it makes no sense for him to arrange the harsher fate for a child that wasn’t lymond’s, especially given that he would’ve had to additionally switch them). if i overlook the over the top absurdism of the live chess game, i have to admit it does bring one of lymond’s key features - him being the mastermind manipulator, the calculating puppeteer - to its extreme, forcing him into the role of a god which he didn’t ever exactly shun, although “the position is already adequately filled”, and forcing him to pay for it by having him solve a kind of trolley problem. the narrative puts him into a position where he has to make an impossible choice and making that choice nearly destroys his psyche.

this, to me, is the gravest psychological problem that lymond had to face throughout the series. the challenges he faces before pif have more external nature and the biggest internal issue he has (apart from lingering pre-canon trauma) is that he kinda is too cool for this world and doesn’t know what to do with his life. although emotionally devastating on the in-universe level, lymond having to kill his son is extremely narratively satisfying bc it makes some of the most admirable qualities of our hero lead him to disaster. these qualities - the aforementioned cleverness as well as his resolve to sacrifice a child in order to free the world of a megalomaniac psychopath, readiness to sacrifice his own happiness, impartiality and lack of prejudice against the child of his enemies - are intrinsic to lymond’s character and they are what makes him take an action that throws him into the pit of despair. basically, forced to choose the lesser of two evils, he did everything right and yet there can be no triumph, no satisfaction bc the traits that made him make that choice are a part of who he is, bc his is the hand of the executioner. it doesn’t matter that the tragedy is not his fault “objectively” bc subjectively he knows he is part of the reason everything happened as it did.

his inner integrity thus compromised, his emotional arc post-pif had to be about reconciling these two truths and incorporating what he did into his understanding of himself in a way that doesn’t make him go mad. learning to live with it, to put it simply. this was where my primary interest as a reader lay and i really hoped dunnett would write a “dealing with your trauma” narrative that doesn’t resort to the “x cures trauma” trope. in the end she did not deliver but this i will maybe talk about later in a separate post. what i’m getting at in this one is that somewhere between pif and checkmate the issue of having murdered his son became inferior to the issue of mommy having possibly had a sex life outside marriage.

you see, for me it was absolutely obvious and essential that a big part of why lymond refuses to go back to scotland is that he can’t bring himself to face his motherland, to look his mother and the rest of his family in the eyes after what he did (not to mention, having to meet kuzum - the living reminder of what happened). this is one of the reasons why i am so annoyed with philippa in trc - bc her function is to call lymond out for not having the courage to face his problems, the problems in question being his shady heritage and somehow not the fact that he freaking caused his son’s death and had to watch it happen before his eyes! at first i thought this is philippa being insensitive but then i realized that it’s just the narrative not so subtly replacing one major psychological problem with what to me looks like a much lesser one in order to make the latter the narrative and thematic focus of the last book. we’re led to believe that whatever feelings lymond has on account of khaireddin he buried in russia and that although the matter still weighs on his mind it’s not as important anymore as his very probable bastardy. he uses his worst memory as a scathing riposte in a conversation with margaret lennox and later comments to philippa that his way of dealing with trauma is facing his triggers (playing chess or music, having sex) head on and doing whatever he has to do until he becomes numb to the grief it causes him. which is certainly unhealthy but fine by me since it’s in-character for lymond. my question is however - is it in-character for him to care about sybilla being an adulteress and himself being a bastard more than about having killed his son? bc checkmate makes it look like the former issue is much more difficult for him to overcome than the latter.

no matter how i turn this aspect in my head i simply can’t bring it into accordance with my idea of lymond. firstly, why would he care (so much) about sybilla’s “virtue”? lymond is a man of the world, he has seen some shit and he knows what kind of person gavin was. while his dealings with women certainly reflect the period typical beliefs about chastity and if you look closely he may even be called low key misogynistic (lisa hopkins has made some interesting remarks about this p. 12), i don’t think that lymond, being so well-versed in self-reflection and irony, would not be self-aware enough to simply follow the mores of his time uncritically and hold sybilla for a lesser woman just bc she had an affair. like many people lymond probably had an idealized vision of his mother in his head, but i don’t think he’s a kind of person who, when this vision is shattered, would discard his mother altogether. 

secondly, why would lymond care (so much) about being a bastard? sure, a part of our identity can be defined as being a child of one’s own parents - something lymond gets partly deprived of when he starts to suspect that he’s an illegitimate child. but has lymond’s identity ever really hinged so much on being a rightful, legitimate crawford? if you ask me he’d be the last person to want any connection to gavin. lymond has been estranged from his family for many years, then after gok he spends a very long time travelling, gets ties to other places like sevigny and gives up his title of master of crawford to his nephew. one of his most appealing features is that he seems to be from everywhere and from nowhere at the same time. lymond’s family is certainly very important to him but is it really the cornerstone of his identity? in checkmate, during a family argument at an inn in dieppe, richard asks lymond what he is and his answer is to open the window and let richard hear the people in the streets chanting his name for he is the one who has just reconquered calais for france. this deliciously overdramatic gesture is very important bc in my opinion it showcases exactly what i’m getting at - that lymond’s identity isn’t built on his origins but on his achievements. the french are chanting his “french” name (sevigny) but the important thing is they still have in mind the hero who made this national triumph possible. and if lymond’s identity is based on his own (mis)deeds and achievements rather than on someone else’s (mis)deeds committed before he’d even been born, then how can the plot about the mystery of his heritage overshadow the one about the trauma of and the blame for his son’s death in this account of his identity crisis?

i can see how after finding out that he’s a bastard lymond would’ve been shocked at first but then would’ve come around and healed the wounds to his ego with self-deprecating remarks, as he does. i don’t think he’d have made this big of an issue out of the whole matter, especially given that he only needed to talk to sybilla to find out the whole story and that it wasn’t as bad as it seemed. (the idea that he might not be able to talk to sybilla bc of other things, idk maybe the ones having to do with killing his own child, is not addressed by the story). but what he did instead is shutting sybilla off completely which happens to be the major hurdle of the last book and consequently of the entire story. the conflict gets resolved and his identity restored only after he finds out that he is not, in fact, a bastard. the narrative wants me to believe that lymond really cared about not being a bastard that much but i simply don’t find it plausible. maybe i’m looking at this with too modern an eye but it seems to me as not big enough an issue that it can just hijack the climax of the whole saga. and given that this honestly melodramatic subplot has replaced what i think of as the most compelling challenge lymond had to face, i felt cheated of catharsis.

- unknown pairing as of now but travelers being your kids so transporting yourself into the world to find them after 500+ years of not returning home

“Shinazugawa-san?” Sanemi glanced up, his hands continued packing away his things into the bag, an eyebrow raised. You smiled, hands folded over the other in front of you, as you continued to speak after gaining his attention. “When would you be free to do the project?”

He sighed, throwing his bag over his shoulder, while making his way out of the classroom - tone and body language showing his disinterest in the conversation. “We can just do it in class.”

You jogged to get into step next to him, “Well, it is for the bare minimum. I’m sure we can do much better than that.” You observed his side profile to see if any emotion could give way to what he was thinking. You frowned, frustration creeping up on you, “I understand that we’re not each other’s first choice in partners but that’s not an excuse to not do our best.”

“Are grades and studying the only thing in that airhead of yours?” His eyes flit towards yours for a moment before returning its gaze forward. “I don’t fucking have as much free time as you.”

You stopped following him. A bolt of anger and disbelief had your mouth dropping and hands curling into shaking fists. You scoffed, voice raising with each word, “I believe you need this more than me, Shinazugawa-san. Unless you want to continue being a pain in everyone’s ass and eventually not even graduate, then be my guest.” 

He swiveled towards you. You flinched reactively. He faltered, face momentarily flitting from anger to surprise back to annoyance the moment his eyes scanned you. One step, two steps. He was in your space, breathing in and out to you, with his  strikingly cold eyes and thin eyebrows furrowed. “Say that again, I dare you.”

You closed your eyes before releasing a deep sigh, muscles easing from the hold of your anger. “We don’t have to do it after school or on the weekends if you are that occupied. We can do it before school or during our breaks and even before our clubs start.” You grabbed one of his wrist, turning his palm upwards, shoving the crumpled paper with your number into it while fixating your glare on him throughout. You refuse to back down but you will be the bigger person. Forcing his hand to a close, you narrowed your eyes for good measure while trying to control the smirk from overtaking your face when his frown further deepened in distaste. Taking a step back, your hands returned to the usual folded stance, you forced an amicable smile to replace the smirk - although you have a feeling that he could still see the smirk from how his eye twitched, “Of course, it’s really up to you, Shinazugawa-san.”

Turning on your heel, you headed back to the classroom with your head held high and a full-blown smirk on your face while your peers watched with stolen glances and whispers behind hands or under breaths. The clicking of his tongue echoed in the corridor and in your head all the way back to the classroom. 

“Ara, ara, should you really do that (Y/N)-chan?” Shinobu greeted you by your desk, eyes filled with mirth from the free entertainment.

You laughed airily, eyes not meeting hers but focused on clearing the messy table, “I wouldn’t have to if he wasn’t that difficult.” 

“Not many survive Sanemi you know?” Shinobu followed you to the student council room. “One must use their life's worth of luck to crawl out from his bad side.” 

A bark of a laugh escaped you from her exaggeration. “Shinobu-chan ~ I thought you wanted to get into medicine and not theatrics?”

Her eyes met yours, a smirk tugging on her lips, eyes shifting precariously into ones when she knew something the other party doesn’t and in this case that was you. A shiver ran down your spine. You’ve been in the spot only a few times but still a few too many with most of them ending up jerking your view of the world down a path you’ve never considered. You gulped, hands itching and playing with themselves. 

“Did you not hear about how he got into a fight with some university boys down at the park?” She leaped into your space, voice dropping into a whisper in your ear yet head tilted to ensure a front seat view to your reaction. “He came out with a couple of scratches and bruises but…” Her small hands encircled your upper arm. Your eyes dropping to them before returning to her face - surprised to witness your shock colouring your face white as it was reflected in those big eyes of hers. “The boys said to be much bigger than he is, had to go to the hospital.” Her smile bordering on unhinged glee, she drawled, “They were so scared they didn’t sue him.”

She immediately returned to her spot beside you, a foot away, while her shoulders and arms lifted in a form of a shrug nonchalantly. “Apparently, when questioned, the boys said something about them being the ones out of line and they have worked things out.” 

Being close friends with Shinobu and Mitsuri meant that you were privy to the latest gossip and news but you always took it with a grain of salt seeing firsthand how some things were purposefully voided or added for the enjoyment of teenagers. You smiled unsurely, “that’s just a rumour Shinobu-chan.”

She pouted, invisible to those who didn't know her well enough or who weren’t keen enough, “You can ask Akio. He was a witness.”

Your eyes widened before blinking in incredulity. “What.”

She giggled, hand raising in a wave before dashing down the corridor. “Do share with me if he tells you more!” 

It took you a few seconds to regain your bearings, even a shake of your head to rid the mental image of Sanemi punching away on people bigger than him for his amusement. He was by no means a small person shown clearly with the muscles seen even through the school uniform - a testament to his achievements as one of the greatest fighters in the taekwondo club despite his lacklustre participation of actually attending said club practices - but there were certainly bigger and taller people in your school, much less university. 

“Hashimoto-san!” You snapped out of your musings.

“Tanaka-san.” You greeted back. The black haired guy chuckled, “I told you to call me by my first name. After all, we’ve been working together for 3 years. Unless, you don’t see me as a friend? Damn, it must hurt to only be seen as a student council partner even after winning the presidential election together.”

“Stop being so dramatic.” You huffed, plopping down into the chair and hands gravitating towards the papers on the table before being stopped by a hand on your wrist. Raising an eyebrow, he returned the gesture indicating there’s something he was expecting you to tell him. He released the grasp on your hand the moment you were falling back onto the back support of the chair with a sigh. “How may I help you Akio?”

“On the way here, I heard an interesting piece of news.” He sat sideways on the table, the leg on the table folded over the leg still standing. You folded your arms over your chest and hummed. “You and Shinazugawa were fighting?”

“It was just a talk that got a bit heated. I was trying to get a hold on him so we can do our project for literature together.” 

Akio’s eyebrows shot up and disappeared under his bangs. “Wow, what luck. First, he somehow got into your class through that stupid maths shit and now you have to deal with him.” He smiled in assurance, eyes crinkling close and  a hand over his heart. “Be careful but if anything happens, I’m here. I’ll come running to save my beloved president.”

You mouthed a wow. Silence blanketed the both of you as you nod in understanding - lips trying to contain the smiles and laughs - as he continued to express his devotion through his hand gestures - hand flying to point at you before returning to over his chest, patting it, then forming into a prayer of sorts - all the while mouthing his loyalty to you. 

With a shake of your head and hands indicating him to leave as you pulled yourself closer to your table, “Thanks but I doubt I need it.”

Instead, he tilted his head backwards and narrowed his eyes on the ceiling. “If you see what I saw, I wouldn’t put too much faith in him.”

Blood freezes over while questions overwhelm your mind. You gulped and licked your lips to get rid of the sudden dryness, “And what exactly are they?”

“He didn’t stop beating them up or screaming at them even when they were down. Three policemen had to pry him off and restrain him.”

Your heart dropped.
