dancing with wolves.
pairing. glen powell x male reader.
word count. 8.8k.
summary. journeying from town to town provided glen a solitude heâd always dreamed of. however, since meeting you, it was all he could complain about.
content warning. smut, western!au, top!glen, yearning!glen, loner!glen, bottom!reader, prostitute!reader, love confession, established relationship, passionate love-making, gagging, deep-throating, handjob (r!receiving), blowjob (r!giving), spanking, overstimulation, milking, anal penetration, breeding.
Cases of whiskey and cider were stacked in a column of two. Six units per beverage, twelve in total as Glen triple-checked the count and label. Though heâd never made a mistake in his deliveries before, it was his vigilance that maintained his good repute amongst the townsfolk. His attentiveness and efficiency in deliveries allowed for trust to be built between him and the towns heâd distribute to.
Months and more, the head of these establishments heâd work with didnât seem to mind Glenâs uptight and reserved nature. Rather, they were used to it. Penned him as âGunpowderâ because of their inability to see through him, as if the smoke from deflagrated gunpowder had impaired their vision.
As long as the goods were delivered in mint condition, who was to complain that the brooding man marched right on out after receiving his payment without uttering a single word?
Not to mention, his sturdy build was a warning itself to those whoâd dared.
âNearly doubled the shipment from last time.â It was an observation noted to himself. A low mutter that the owner of the saloon caught with a smile, because frankly, the mustached man was known to run the folkâs ears off.
There was a reason why he owned a saloon, and not Glen.
He dropped his payment into his drawstring bag and tucked it into the inside pocket of his shirt. Crime was growing rampant, even in a bustling town like New Vale where a dust storm couldnât ward off its folks from drinking into the night. Glen wasnât sure what to make of it. Whether to call them idiots for ignoring the highly alarming signs of bandits gradually killing their way to the west, or brave for living their lives without a single regret.
One wouldâve had the same vacillation between labeling Glen as an idiot or a man, for traveling 40 miles and more in his saddle, while the threat of murders loomed over his head. âGod damn, I did! Business been growinâ ever since weâd expanded to include the whores. The fellas canât keep their hands off of them!â Glenâs ears pricked up from the way the shorter man described the main attraction to his saloon. The man was practically ascending to heaven, tugging on the straps of his suspenders to ground him to the wooden flooring while he boasted about how much of a brilliant man he was for charging patrons by the hour, and taking a percentage of a prostituteâs pay.Â
All Glen could do was watch in stoic disgust while the man relished in his own pride, in his own greed.
Though, only for a few seconds before a feeling of guilt and shame took over Glenâs conscious, calling him out on his hypocrisy, on this selfish desire that all the men in the saloon had collectively shared.
He wasnât much of a better man than the drunkard swaying in his seat, completely shit-faced with a shot glass in his grasp.
Glen tucked his hands into his pockets, leaned to the manâs ear, and lowered his voice to a hush. âThe boy in today?â
Coincidentally, he felt a spare coin in his left pocket. The silver ridges scorched his skin like it had come straight from the devilâs fountain, prodding his urges.
âShould be cleaning out back, but Iâll let âem know youâre here. You know his room.â The man collected the single coin with a smug grin and tipped his hat. âNice doing business with ya, and⊠get yâself a drink. On the house. Iâm beginning to treasure your presence.â The march of his steps out to the back were resonant, even with the ragged rhythm of the piano blaring in Glenâs ears as he walked for the stairs.
- - -
The room was left as Glen remembered it.
The thin walls closed in on the oil lamps mounted on the walls. It didnât take much to light up the room. As bright as candles could be lit, it only emphasized how truly compact the space was. Glen couldnât imagine that no more than two men could be comfortable standing in this lodging, let alone reside in it. Luckily, Glen was a simple man. He hung his coat on the wall and took his boots off, a much needed relief from the compression at his feet, and he felt satisfied sitting on the miserable mattress. Not from the space, no. Not when he could hear other patrons like him revel in their own pleasure, albeit muffled by the thin walls.
No. It was because he got to see his boy again. Twice a month, like how it had been for almost a year now, and Glen could feel the two weeks of labor thanking him as a huge weight seemingly lifted off his shoulders.Â
Traveling from town to town and shipping out whiskey and cider didnât take much of a toll on his body like herding cattle, but it was uninspiring. Sight-seeing was tranquil, but the sun was beating down on him harder this month. It was tiring. Always on his saddle, on his feet, and now with the threat of robberies ramping, on the defensive, all without so much of a break.
It was lonely.Â
And though it was his own fault, it made the moment of seeing his boy all the more special.
Touching you was even more cathartic than heâd like to admit.
Two hard knocks, a beat, then three more, and the door opened.
âYou sleepinâ already, Bighorn?â You teased, chuckling to yourself when you could see Glen rise from his position as you locked the door.
Bighorn. The endearment made Glen chuckle.
Glen watched you come into the light as his elbows supported his body, legs extended to stretch the tight muscles in his thighs and calves. A button-up and suspenders, your typical attire as a novice cook. It had to be illegal to look this striking in hand-me-downs covered in flour.
âA second longer, and I wouldâve demanded for a refund.â Glen quipped with a simple grin. It was all natural, his body responding to your approach by gathering himself onto his feet. You worked him in mysterious ways. Every step you took, Glen met you half-way.Â
Yearn weighted Glenâs heart to match the heaviness of your boots scraping against the floor until you stopped. He stopped in his tracks after, your wide smile reflecting off of his simpler grin, and Glen remained silent, taking you all in with the removal of his hat.Â
It wasnât the first time his eyes ever tracked a man, nor was it the first time his heart ever sped up, but you had this power, this presence, that made him feel anew with the way you looked at him. You wrapped your arms around his neck, pressing your chest close to his own.Â
Surely, he knew he wasnât going crazy feeling like his affection for you had shot up like a bull for the past month. And the month before that.Â
And the month before that.
âAnd I wouldâve made it up by makinâ sure you get the best sleep of your life. Howâs that sound?â You met his eye level, unabashedly smiling wider than you had ever greeted him before.Â
He felt flat, like heâd been hit by the train itself. A sharp jolt that sent goosebumps all over his skin, and it was like you read into his soul, because your hands roamed around his body, warding off the tiny prickles over his skin with a caress to his broad chest, over his forearms, against his neck.
It didnât take long for Glen to realize you were the curator of the bumps on his skin.
âSounds like an overpromise...â Glen chuckled along with you, his larger hands feeling up your waist, backside, then to your arse, where they felt perfectly at home in his palms. His gaze was just as curious, peeking at the collar of your shirt that revealed the smallest amount of your neck. To your lips, marveling over ruby flesh heâd often daydream about while riding across the plains.
It was becoming a routine. Where the weeks leading up to the end the month felt like the world had a vengeance against you, and this month was surely taking out its worst out on you.
âYou got a haircut.â Glen noticed the shorter length of your hair, pushing it back with a swoop of his hand. He then took ahold of your jaw, maneuvering it cheek by cheek to stoically marvel over your cut.
âWas gettinâ hot. Boss man didnât like how it collected sweat.â Your fingers worked around his collar, unfurling the fold, then folding it back into place. âYou like it?â
âI can see your face clearer. You look good.â Glenâs fingers raked through your hair once before messily ruffling it. You responded with a shove to his chest, knocking him back onto the bed with an unexpected laugh. âGuess I didnât need to worry about whether you were eating or not. Christ, you gettinâ stronger too.â
A dull ache settled in his chest. He wanted to say something more than, âYou look good.âÂ
No, it fit you. The trimmed hairs on the sides matched how blunt you could be.Â
âYou bring any gifts for me?â
âYouâre sweaty, and that makes me aroused.â
âYou pushing 40. That only makes me want you even more.â
âNo one can fill my mouth like you do, Glen.â
On the contrary, it also framed your face like you were an angel who didnât spout nonsense that would render him speechless. Though, heâd gotten used to that now. It made you all the more endearing, how someone could look as passive as you, have a mouth like that.
âBastardâs been pushing more tasks onto me since business been growing. Same pay too. Man is too cheap to hire another employee. Donât think I look any different though.â It took all the energy out of him to not sigh when you straddled his lap. He was swelling nicely beneath you, harder and thicker the more you rut your arse against him. âOr⊠maybe youâre just getting weaker?â
Glen rolled his eyes. âDonât get so cocky, boy. Wouldnât want me to beat it out of you, would you?â Your breath hitched when his palm struck down on your left ass cheek as a warning. It was effortlessly done, yet the subtle sting was more than enough to pull a groan out of you.
You brazened yourself, narrowing your eyes into his drawn gaze as you leaned closer, and pulled him halfway up by the collar. âNot if you call that a beatinâ.â Your lips grazed against his, and just when Glen leaned closer, you pulled away and resumed your ruts, pushing your arse back onto his palms simultaneously.
âYou gonâ regret that.â It was animalistic. The way you drove your hips into him, and the way Glen desperately responded back, groping your ass hard and pushing you flushed to his groin, to the weight of his bulge. He buried his groans into your neck, biting a patch of skin that would draw out whimpers in between your taunts.Â
âI ainât regret nothinâ-â A loud yelp slipped from your mouth. His palm suddenly came down on your ass again. Harder, like the snap of lighting had bit into your skin. It shuddered you to think that it had hurt as much as it did while you were clothed. Yet, that didnât stop you from unbuckling and drawing out your belt, and then Glenâs.Â
âThat the best you got? Like a bee-sting. I ainât impressed.â You muttered into his neck, kissing at the hot flush of skin after stripping you and Glen down to undergarments. Gradually, you worked his top off, licking and kissing every show of skin that would meet your lips, until he was deliciously bare-chested before you.
âIâll break your damn ass if I have to.â Glen said through gritted teeth. His arms were folded behind his head, cushioning it while he watched your mouth worship every contour of his body like he was a king. Your mouth would latch onto one side of his ribs, suckling on a freckle, while the other admired his abdomen with several, drunken strokes. It took the trail of his stomach hair to pivot your mouth lower, to slip your hand into the opening of his drawers until it was inevitably full with Glenâs semi-hard cock, meaty and thick in your palm.
âYou spendinâ the night?â Your ears perked up at the sound of his groans, your gaze followed the source. He was clearly desperate for more than the laze of your strokes as your grasp was loose and open, favoring to feel around his cock than against.Â
âThatâs what I paid for.â His hips bucked once you began massaging his cock, throbbing harder in the palm of your hand.Â
âIâll make sure itâs worthwhile, then.â With one hand continuing to knead at the tender muscle, you stripped the drawers off of his body, tossing it onto a pile of clothing in the corner.
âLook at me when you talkinâ.â It came out more aggressive than heâd like it to, but your eyes lit up when he caught your gaze, a smoldering smile plastered across your face while you stroked him with your knees pressed to the mattress.
âYou stressed or what? Donât usually talk like this to me.â Stripping yourself bare, you resumed tending to his cock after, gulping at the unholy sight of the meaty tool drooling with a thick and ample amount of pre-cum that would surely stain the flooring if you hadnât caught the sticky rope with your tongue.
You looked extra handsome tonight, Glen thought. Maybe it was the haircut working wonders on him. Making him act all crazy like heâd been bewitched. One strand of hair fell delicately over your forehead when you spat on his cock, and had your grasp around him not remind him, he wouldâve forgotten to breathe.
âJust been thinking about my boy. Couldnât stop thinking about you.â You lapped up his cock while he struggled to pour out his words. It was like molasses, the way heâd pause himself to say the right thing so he wouldnât scare you. Coincidentally, you seemed to be enjoying the taste of his pre-cum like it was molasses as well, sucking it out him with sunken cheeks.
âCouldnât stop thinking about filling that filthy mouth of yours with even more filth.â He hissed as you began tonguing his slit.
âYâknow how much I love the taste of your seed.â You dragged your tongue over the head, polishing it with several needy sucks, while your gaze maintained on his. One hand was wrapped around the shaft to hold Glen steady, and the other was cupped around his heavy balls, stretching and fondling the loose stretch of skin.
âI know. You like how itâs warm in your mouth, donât you?â The grasp around his thick cock tightened. Fingers pressed into his veins, stroking the aroused muscle while your mouth worked on his glans, plump and swollen against your lips.
âAnd how salty it is. Taste better than your whiskey.â Sweat and musk had built up in the thick hairs of his pubic, in the crevice of his glans as you inhaled his scent. The smell of his cock made your own swollen unbearably hard.
âYou like my cock too. Like how heavy it is on your tongue.â He had his fingers running through your hair, keeping any strands from obscuring your eyes as you watched him, just as he had been watching you.
âNothing better than feelinâ my dirty mouth stretch because of the size of it. Can barely wrap my hands around your tool. My asshole struggles too, if not more.â
You loved sucking on the head. It was tender in your mouth, leaking with salt that made your tongue dance into the slit for more. It was beautiful to look at too. Every now and then, youâd slip him out of your mouth to marvel over the glistening view of his cock, swollen in your own spit.
âYet it donât stop you, does it? You keep sucking with that hot mouth of yours. Fucking with that tight ass of yours.â He sat up to stretch his hand from your neck and then down to your spine, repeating the affectionate gesture when heâd reach the limit of his mobility.
âYour cock is my liquor.â You held his gaze with pride, proudly slapping his wet cock across your cheek, against your lips, onto your tongue, because you werenât ashamed for desiring men.Â
You werenât ashamed for needing Glen.
No amount of prejudice can suppress your very existence.Â
âYou doinâ a whole lot of talking, and not a lot of sucking.â His hand was strong on the back of your neck, massaging as if it would warm your throat up.
You purred, finding the increasing pressure on your neck welcoming as it naturally opened your mouth back up. Your tongue teased Glen for a little longer. Patience had been wearing thin, you could see it in his eyes as they hardened over the lazy trail of your tongue, unbearably sliming at the underside of his heavy cock. His grasp on your neck was clutching, pulling at your tender skin to maneuver you north and wrap your mouth back around him. But you were resisting. You were going to suck his cock on your own terms, on your own accord, flaunting your tongue over his stiffened pole to warm him up because you had all night with him.
You were beautiful like this, working your spit over his cock with your hand, while you silently leaned up for a kiss. He granted those rubies of yours a chaste peck, then another to the dried drool at the corner of your mouth, then another, a fulfilling kiss to your mouth that had drawn out simultaneous groans from the both of you because it was unapologetically more than lust.
You stroked his cock harder, to the warmth of his tongue as it slipped inside of you, keen to explore the cavern that had made his cock feel so glorious, to explore the mouth that often sent Glen into a spiral simply from his own imagination after the very minute he would depart from you.
His heart was beating, accelerating like it had soles to run on, and all it took was the palm of your hand caressing his chest in soothing swoops to ground him back to reality, to the kiss that had been broken in favor of you returning back to your original position between his legs, mouth agape and taunting as ever.Â
âOnly because I want you to hear what it sounds like when Iâm swallowing your cock.â With those final words, you slid his cock into your mouth without letting your gags falter you.
His cock was heavy, maintaining the girth from base to tip as you took more of him after every cycle. Tears brimmed in your eyes when youâd choke on one attempt of slotting him down your throat. Then they dripped, rolled down your supple cheeks, when youâd work yourself through your gags until your throat closed in around his tool. Youâd lie there with your throat stuffed to the brim, your lips clamped shut from the very base despite the fur of his pubic hairs tickling your lips to open back up.
Your ears rattled from your conscience begging you to end your torture, but watching Glen marvel at that mouth of yours made you endure the looming threat of fainting all the more worthwhile.Â
âChrist.â Drool spilled from either side of your mouth as Glen helped you stabilize with a palm to your nape. He gently pushed at the sound of your gags, keeping you situated against his groin in case youâd pull away. âYou know how to make a man happy, donât you?â
âMmfghââ It was pointless responding, but Glen expected it. You always had to get the last word. The last sound.Â
He maneuvered you by the neck, pulling you back then forward again, your throat making ungodly sounds around his cock in midst of doing so. Occasionally, heâd meet you halfway and thrust himself into your gags, churning the arising saliva that foamed in your mouth back down your air duct, making you choke in the process.
âYou miss my cock that much, boy?â
âMmff-guh!â
Heâd pull you back just in time, his cock releasing from the tight hold of your throat like a cork barricading liquor, and you didnât waste a single second to fill your lungs again with the arousing air.
âYou gonâ kill me with that thing, bastard.â Your spit resembled fizz that would spew out from opened cider. Glen kept it to himself, but he thought you looked dashing like this. Flushed in the face, cheeks stained by dried tears, nostrils stung with sniffles, youâd collect your composure quickly after, brazen yourself as if nothing had happened, but from the tremors in your hands, you were dismantled despite working your hand on him again.
âToo much for you?â He asked, reaching over with a hand to knead at the center of your throat. Glen didnât show many moods, but you were well aware when he was either aroused, angry, or concerned, simply by the movement of his brows.Â
You lifted your chin upon the warm of his hand greeting you, grinning at the raise of the manâs brows. âI jest. Too much? Yes. But thatâs the fun in it. Not knowing when to stop because Iâm so addicted to you.â
âShould be a poet. Youâd know how to charm people with your words.â He sighed into your mouth when he pulled you over, kissing you delicately while one hand lowered to gather his cock and yours in one hold, stroking the throbbing masses.
Glen was never too fond of feeling like this.Â
This warmth that was similar to downing liquor, yet not quite as strong or as scorching as to the sensation of aged spirit burning his insides.
It was foreign. The heat liked to spread around his body, the aftermath of hot rain heâd reckon. It was steaming inside of him. Pleasant and restful while his muscles eased. He felt like those biscuits heâd eaten for morning, noon, and evening. Buttery, warm, and pillowy.Â
That feeling only happened when he was with you.
It was unnerving how much power you held over him without you even realizing. How heâd weaken under the light of your smile, or even the dazed stare of your eyes, where Glen often found himself concerned with for the remaining month as the shadows beneath your eyes would grow with every visit.
You shouldnât have that effect on him, because no one has managed to ignite such feelings inside of him. Yet you have, effortlessly so, without missing a single beat, and it was alarming to realize that his solitude had become unbearable since youâd came into the picture.Â
Frightening, where his solitude would feel like abandonment had something ever happened to you.
âPoets donât make a home.â You whispered lightheartedly before breaking into soft, hushed moans, where Glen would happily devour as you resumed kissing him with tongue, running your hands over his muscles in meantime.
âAnd whoring yourself out does?â He sat up, pulling away to raise a questioning brow.
It was naive of you, but Glen knew better than to lecture you in the meantime. He hadnât seen you in a month and he wasnât letting a simple discourse interrupt that.
You shrugged, kissing at the underside of his jaw after he pulled you onto his lap. His hands were on your hips, his cock rubbing between your ass cheeks. âNo, but at least I get fucked hollow out of it.â
âForget what I said. If your mouth is this vulgar, I canât imagine what youâd write on paper. Youâd end a famine with folks dying from shock at your smut.â Without warning, one finger slipped inside of your hole. You clenched from surprise, but eventually welcomed him in with the languid kisses Glen would provide on your neck, on your shoulders, and on your chest.
âThatâs a good thing, ainât it?â You arched forward into his embrace, pushing your ass out as Glen twisted another finger inside of you, stretching your hole with two fingers. âI saved the worldâŠâ You moaned out in a manner that sent tremors down Glenâs spine. To his cock, when he stuffed another finger inside of you, and curled deep into your resistance. âDonât do too much. Wanna feel you.â
âYou silly.â The keening sound you give out rendered him speechless, along with the dew of your body and face, thinly layered with cold sweat of your own desires. Your hands braced on Glenâs shoulders as he pistoled his fingers inside of you for a little longer. Twisting, spreading, turning, curling, throttling, until you begged for him, in whispers, in hot kisses that muffled your sounds incoherent.Â
But Glen was an attentive man; tasting your tongue to feed off of your words, urging you to repeat with a smack to your ass. You would, desperate and delirious as you pushed your ass into the sting of his palm.
âCanât take it anymore. I need you inside of me. Câmon.â You reached behind to stroke his cock with your spit, simultaneously pressing his shaft between your rump.
âYou actinâ like you donât get hollowed out daily.â Glenâs touch was tender on your cheek, holding the left side delicate in his palm, while his hips moved against your hand and grind, taunting your patience.
âNot like this. Always thinkinâ about you when someone else fucking me. They donât do it like you.â It came out as a whine, a needy sound as you angled his wet cockhead against your pucker, dangerously pressing when you lifted your hips.
âThey donât satisfy you like I do.â A statement, rather than a query.
âThey donât...âÂ
Glen was good at casting doubt on people.Â
Lies were often evident through the eyes. Novice liars either looked away, or stared too intensely like they were trying to convince themselves.
Your gaze yearned, lingered in search for Glenâs blessing. He held your gaze for a moment, catching a glimpse of stars in your pupils like he wasnât aware that it was the candlesâ doing. Getting lost in your eyes wasnât warding off the warm feeling in his body. Rather, it began manifesting a smolder, burning more despite kissing you once to fan it away, to make the light in your eyesâthe way you looked at him disappear.
He pulled away quickly to look into your eyes again. Burning now, he was burning.Â
Again, his lips sealed over yours, and then he pulled back to stare.
The stars winked.
Again.
A few morphed as one, seemingly emptying the space in your pupils.
Again.Â
No, Glen was wrong. They werenât emptying space.
And again.
They were creating space.
He began witnessing the birth of a few more stars after every turn, crystal-like as they glimmered in your pupils once you smiled at his behavior.Â
Glen was in silent hysteria, finding himself spiral from one look youâd given him. It was different. Completely unlike anything youâd ever spared him. It felt true. Pure. Honest.
Loved.
There was no way out. He couldnât find a way to escape if heâd tried. Burying his face into your neck didnât work. You smelled like bread dough, ones youâd been kneading in the back of the kitchen. Ones he had eaten and marveled over before even meeting you.
Simply closing his eyes had no effect either, as your hand was on his cock, chasing after the throbbing with patient strokes.
âThey donât.â Glen repeated after you, a confirmation into the underside of your jaw.
Glen was never a man who lost. At least, he never lost without putting up a fight. When he spared you one more glance at the sound of your groan, he felt himself crumble and completely melt. He couldnât see it, but he could feel it. Feel himself melting until all that was left was for bone to be rattled with as you sank yourself back onto his lap, hands braced on his shoulders while you welcomed his cock inside of your cavity, inch by inch
âYouâre an angel, yâknow that? Every time I see you, I feel like my sins been washed away.â Glen ran a finger along your taut rim, marveling over the way you looked right now, bouncing on his cock, over his lap, your cock swinging in for the ride. He harbored his moans into the crook of your neck, fogging your skin with the warmth of his breath, until youâd break into cold sweats.
âIronic, ainât it? What loving a man can do?â You groaned and grunted with exertion as you worked your way lower in tiny thrusts. âThey donât make love to me like you do, just as I donât make love to them like I do for you. â You confessed with conviction, and let gravity weigh you down onto Glenâs cock, taking him into your sturdy body. âOnly you.â
Glen didnât hear that right, did he? Loving someone? It was difficult to concentrate with the way you were working his cock. It was a glorious feeling being back inside of you, compact and warm like how heâd remember breaching you.Â
You felt so stretched, uncomfortably yet pleasantly filled when youâd lift your hips until only the cockhead remained, and rammed his cock back in with a strong drop of your ass. Your forehead rested on Glenâs, and you could feel every puff of breath heâd exhale. Hear the restraints in his panting as you tied your arms around his neck, and let your weight push him flat onto his back, properly straddling him.Â
âYou love me? What you talking âbout?â He didnât have the will to stop you. You were so eager, absolutely high on your arousal as you rode his cock with desperate rhythms, but he needed to address the revelation, for his sanity.Â
First off, you beat him to the punch. Had it originally played out in his mind, Glen was the one to confess about his feelings, not you.
âWhat? I-I ainât say nothinâ âbout that.â It mustâve slipped. You didnât know when, or how, or maybe Glen was a mind reader because you definitely didnât say that, did you? You rocked your lower body in quicker ruts, hoping it would distill any remaining questions, and looked off to the corner, silently cursing at yourself.
âYouâre lying.â His grip on your hips was sudden, making you come to a pause.
âI ainât lyinâââ Your brows furrowed, exasperated at the interruption. Luckily, Glenâs cock was still hard inside you, somehow throbbing even more as you witnessed something clicked within him.
Glen took ahold of your body, arms secured around your waist, before stepping off the bed and carrying you to the lone rocking chair in the corner of the room. âSo, you hate me?âÂ
âWhat? No, I donât hate you. YouâIâGlen, put me down.â You groaned when Glen sat down on the chair, the position driving his cock impossibly deeper into your body.
He refused despite your attempt in wriggling yourself free. You were strong, but Glen was stronger, tightening his arms around you. âThen what is it? I want to know how you feel before I feel like a fool for loving you too.â
Though, not like he had to hold you with much strength considering your bewilderment stunned you in place. âWhat? You love me?â
âYou tellinâ me you donât know? What was all that âmakinâ loveâ speech about?â He was just as perplexed as you were. His chest felt heavy with disappointment. Heâd been overthinking it, hadnât he? Glen was a liar, someone who tried to convince himself of the impossible.Â
âIt felt like you were making love to me. Donât mean that I thought you actually did.âÂ
âOh.â
âYeah, oh.â
A deafening silence as you two stared at each other. You were about to leave his lap, only for him to bound you back to him at the last second.
âWell, I do. I love you.â Glen stated matter-of-factly, a peculiar tone to his official confession, you couldnât help but chuckle at it.
âBighornâŠâ You sighed, surrendering into his arms with the slouch of your body, your chest colliding onto his. Frankly, the thought of being with Glen made you happy, yet nervous at the same time. âYou know it donât matter whether I love you or not. Nothing is gonna happen beyond this. Nothing can happen, unless you wanna risk your life. Mine too.â
âThatâs something Iâm willinâ to do. Iâve risked my life traveling plains, through towns, carrying expensive liquor. Nothing I wonât do for you.â Your heart felt like a pond with thrown rocks skipping across the surface of water.
âAbsolutely not, and that ainât the same. How you gonâ love me when youâre ten feet underground because of the fact that you love me?â You crossed your arms, frowning at his persistence because⊠well, it was working. More rocks began breaking the solitude of the pond.
âFrom the heavens, hopefully. Can leave you with my horse. Got a ranch back at home too. Can leave you with that. Youâd have a house like youâd always wanted. Carry on with my business.â Pure dreams. That was all they were. Dreams.
âThatâs only if I ainât buried with you, Bighorn.â As much as you seemed resistant to Glenâs imaginations, you found yourself picturing a better life for you as you buried your head into his neck, listening to his tales. Living on a ranch like heâd described. Cattle and sheep would run free while you struggled to keep up with Glen as you joined him on this new lifestyle. It would be hard work, but by dawn, youâd slip into bed with Glen after dinner, and deem that it was all worth it in the end.
âAt least weâll be together, one way or ânother.â He kissed you at your neck, laving your skin in the weakest kisses, almost like he was beginning to surrender to your defiance. âSo, you love me? You love me too?â
âIâBighornâGlenâŠâÂ
Heâd come a long way since youâd met him. Describing him as quiet was an understatement. He refused to make small talk when you led him into this room for the first time. It was a quick exchange, a shameful one as Glen power walked out of the saloon without sparing you a single glance. Now, he often spent nights with you, refusing to let go of you even in the deep of his slumber. In retrospect, you couldâve left when you had the chance. You had many opportunities even, to find a better life in the next town, and the next.
The thought of having Glen disappear from your life felt like death itself, so you didnât, knowing that he would eventually down the line.Â
A year later, and he hasnât.Â
Love makes you do crazy things.Â
âYou know I love you, Glen.â You rubbed his chest sweetly, forewarning him of the disappointment youâd never relieve him from. Tears formed at your waterline, threatening to leak, so you pressed your face deep into his neck, wiping them against his skin. Your heart felt heavy, like it wanted to burst out of your chest to stop you from pushing him away. It wouldâve killed you, but at least it wouldâve saved Glen the disappointment. âI love you too. Iâm glad we sorted that out, but weââ
âNo, stop. No more. I love you.â He cut you off with a sudden kiss, whispering into your mouth after. âI love you, and I need you, you understand me?â His palm was back on your rump, kneading at the tender, yet toned flesh, while the other hand pressed his growing erection back to your pucker again, prodding. âNo more buts.â
âButââ Your breath hitched when he slid himself in again, stretching you out like before, yet it felt like an endless slide, digging all the way into the deepest part of your body, like Glen was going to cradle your heart, until he was rooted deep inside of you, balls flushed to the cleft of your ass.
â(M/N), Iâll take care of ya. Whatever happens, Iâll take care of it, you hear me?â Glen cradled your head, kissing at your cheek while you returned to burying it in between his shoulder and neck. âLet me see you.â
âH-hmm, m-mhmââ His cheeks burned as you made those wanton noises in midst of revealing yourself before him. Flushed in the face, cheeks stricken with tears; one wouldâve mistaken you to be ill. Though, in a way you were. Youâd been struck by incurable illness that was love.
Glen clicked his tongue, frowning in wonder. âSo, so, so pretty. You look so pretty.â He began thrusting into you, resuming where you two had left off. âYou look even prettier now that Iâm making love to you, you know that?â
âYou love me.â You bit your lip, holding back moans because you needed to hear it from Glen again, hear of his devotion for you.
âI love you.â He whispered through grunts, spreading your ass cheeks wide, and you pressed your body forward, arching your ass out as his thrusts ramped up. His cock slammed up into you with raw passion, devoting his remaining strength to holding your ass up, and making himself work for you, all in the name of love.
âI love you.â You repeated between needy whimpers. You soon began to bounce up and down, hands braced on Glenâs shoulders, while you joined his thrusts with your own movements, meeting him halfway. His large cock reared you from behind like a hammer to a nail, pummeling you without break, without the chance to let you breathe.Â
It was rather the opposite, to knock the breath out of you.Â
You watched close, mouthing at Glenâs neck, then jaw, until you reached his lips, where youâd let hungry moans delicately fall into place. Glen found you breathtaking as you lost your mind with primitive lust.Â
âYou belong to me, you hear me?â Glen said simply, his features calm. âNo one else fucks you like I do.â
Your arms tightened around his neck for a hug. Glen seemed absolutely serene in his love, with you on his lap, fucking yourself into his cock. On the other hand, you were absolutely wrecked. Glen was fucking you harder, knocking guttural moans out of you on each thrust. Your own hole clenched when Glen lifted your ass up, pulling his cock completely out of you until you were squeezing nothing but warm air. Heâd expertly dip a finger inside of you, to feel how stretched you were, play with your rim because of how swollen it had gotten, before stretching you back to capacity as he brought you back down on his cock, and onto his upward thrust.
âNo one makes love to me like you do.â You panted through his batter, each syllable of word rattling in volume as you had absolutely no sense of it. Glen hummed in agreement while he fucked your ass and jerked your cock all at once. He was taking care of you.
You knew what he meant in the long run; tending to your injuries if youâd happen to fall off his saddle, hosing you down with water when youâd take a dive in the lake, feeding you the last bit of his biscuit because he never liked seeing you hungry. A life far from neglect as Glen had made you realize that you and him shared the dream.
But for now, he was taking care of you. Meticulously so as Glen remembered all the spots that made his tongue taste sugary when youâd moan in his mouth. Glenâs thumb caressed your frenulum, using the pre-cum your cockhead had been spitting to slip his touch in the tightest crevices. The pad of his thumb sailed smooth over the neck of your glans, flicking, pressing, rubbing at the swollen flesh of skin. You sounded so sweet and looked so serene under Glenâs touch, a complete antithesis to how youâd normally present yourself.
Glen was familiar with the roll of your eyes; from the way youâd interact with displeased customers at the bar, or from his demand to hold you throughout the night. But would you hold it against him if Glen revealed that he preferred seeing the whites of your eyes from being fucked impeccably in the ass? With his thick cock, battering your insides until youâd remember the shape of his cock? The motion of it all, digging deep into your ass, into your guts, pummeling through your need to clench hard around him, failing to pause him from hitting that sweet spot, or else youâd spill. Your hands curled into his chest as they were braced on the sweaty surface, and youâd never felt so desired, especially with your reflection in the vanity staring right back at you, providing you a simple glimpse of how beautiful you looked to Glen.
Youâre a dirty bastard, Glen reckoned youâd confront him with, only before bending over the mattress and spreading your ass cheeks for him. You lucky that Iâm as well, Bighorn.
No. No, you wouldnât hold it against him.Â
You were perfect.
âClose.â You warned, then dropped your head lower to kiss him on the lips, spilling your moans into his mouth in midst.Â
Your hips bucked into his fist while simultaneously rocking back into Glenâs cock. His hold on you was secure, clutching to keep you as close to him as possible. You toyed with your nipples, pinching and tugging on them, and Glen accepted those gestures as a silent invitation for him to wrap his lips around one nub at at a time, suckling on the perky bud until youâd gone swollen. Youâd join his lips for another kiss in gratitude, thanking him with your tongue as it explored his warm mouth, licking into his panting, his grunts, his devotion for you. You swallowed his spit after, and your fate with Glen was sealed and optimistically beyond your control.
âYou look like an angel right now, but your holeâs the devil. Squeezing around my cock like this, holding me so tight like youâre afraid Iâm âbout to pull out of ya. Christ, youâre so tight. You my dirty angel. My sweet devil.â His hand had abandoned your cock in favor of taking your ass into both palms and spreading them like before, fucking his cock up into you.
Your eyes shared pleasure with his, only your pupils had seem blown since heâd started angling his hips in a way that sent tremors to your body. With your cock in your hand, you gazed down at Glen with dazed passion, lips parted to warn, yet only little sounds had come out instead. âGlen. Christââ His cockhead tickled your sweet spot at first, a brief brushing that you didnât think much of other than the fact that it made your body tremble. But Glen persisted, shifting his body against your gorgeous, helpless, and needy body, and fucked your tight body with force, teeth-bared, sweat beading on his forehead. Your mouth fell open, and your face slackened with unadulterated pleasure. âDamn you, Iâm gonna comeââ
Glen shuddered, witnessing your gaze blur in and out in an attempt to focus on him as he was on the brink of his control himself. âDo it,â he urged you. âI want you to. Come from my cock. Gonna come too, inside of your hole.â
You wailed when Glenâs strong thighs slammed into your sweaty ass. A thunder of delicious sounds: your wails and his growls, the bruising smacks of flesh to flesh, the hard rocking of the chair, scraping against the floor; they created a symphony that was nearing a crescendo. Faster. Harder. Deeper. Glen pounded up into you, and your ears blared with sounds of Glenâs pleasure. Your fist pumped your cock until your forearms began to burn, veins pulsing through to power you to your high.
He was gutting you, hollowing your hole out until it would recover just in time for his next visit. Youâd remember him for the remaining weeks, his cock pummeling you until your melodic cries had shifted from want to euphoric need.
âGlen..!â You yelled.
Glen kissed you deeply and bit your lower lip, one hand steeling you by the nape to hold your forehead to his. He doesnât plan on letting go. Watching you like this, submerged in unconditional pleasure, was just as gratifying as hammering into your prostate. âYou feel so good, angel. Look at you. Look at that pretty smile, youâre so happy to be filled with my cock.Â
You were so full of cock, of Glenâs cock, and you cried from it. Cried from how Glen was taking care of you so well, back to fisting your cock, kissing your neck, pounding your insides out.
Love has never felt so good.
Finally, you came with an arch of your back. Glenâs fist released just in time for thick and heavy ropes to splatter on his chest. Glen stiffened, his eyes daring back and forth between the exhilarating expression on your face and the obscene visual of your cum flooding Glenâs fists as he wrapped his hand back around you, and worked you through your orgasm.
âM-mmfgh, come insideâ Need it. I need you.â With your eyes on his, you leaned down to kiss him and take his hands into yours for balance, raising them over his head. They were sticky shut from layers of your cum, but that only made it more thrilling as you rode him. You lifted your hips and brought it down without a single pause, burying his cock inside of you to the hilt.
âAngel, fuckâ Iâm coming.â
You swallowed his growls, warnings of the inevitable, yet you accelerated like you didnât hear, slamming your ass down repeatedly, chasing after his high. His hands suddenly grasped hard onto yours, sponging cum out from the locked hands and letting it trail down your arms, and his hips bucked. You could feel his thighs flex, see rapture possess his very being as his gritted teeth no longer could contain the trumpeting sound of his moans, his muscles pulsing. With one more press of your ass, you buried Glenâs cock and felt him come inside of you. Heavy and thick as his hot seed stained your walls. Creamy like butter, when you slowly milked him inside of you with gentle rhythms of your hips. It felt sublime, having your insides contain Glenâs devotion for you.
âYou the devil himselfâŠâ Glen groaned and his body twitched as you emptied him of seed, stopping once you were satisfied. He then released your hands to embrace your waist, letting you slump into him with relief. Your head rested on his shoulder, and your eyes closed shut.
âYou really mean it? Youâd wanna live on a ranch together, or something?â You asked, feeling his heart come to a calm with your palm providing soothing strokes to his chest.
âHave I ever lied to you?â He turned, pressing his nose to yours. One hand caressed the small of your back, and occasionally would fondle your rump. Warm and plump in his grasp, he couldnât help that he was in love with every aspect of you.
You thought about his question for a moment, pursing your lips before shaking your head. âNo.â
âThen thatâs your answer.â He assured with a kiss to your lips. âWe ainât gotta do it now, or the next month, or the month after that. When youâre ready. Just wanted to know I want a future with you.â
âMe too...â You muttered, playing with his chest hair to distract the sudden conflict youâd been harboring from him.Â
Silence filled the room for a moment as he watched you intently. You picked up his hat from the floor and fit it on yourself.Â
âThereâs that âbutâ again. Whatâs the problem?â Glen chuckled, his heart racing again despite maintaining his composure. He playfully flicked the rim of his hat down, making it tilt on your head, and cover your sight line.
âHeyâYou ainât gonâ like it.â You adjusted the hat, sighing in defeat when Glen watched you with vigilance.
âWhat?â He sat up, making you straighten your posture in turn.
âThink the sheriffâs not gonna like the sound of me quitting.â
âYou kidding?â
âNope.â You pursed your lips again, then sighed. âHeâs bossâs most loyal customer. Pays well too. I mean, I donât know. I may be wrong, but⊠think he likes me beyond what I do for him. Buys me gift from the city and all.â
âWell, heâs gonna have to prove it. I ainât leaving without a fight. Not until Iâm dead, and even then, Iâll be watchinâ over ya.â
âYou a mad man.â

Cowboy Up - Pt.1 - Ryan x Dutton!reader
Um so I watched all of Yellowstone last week and as a result, my multi-year writer's block was broken by a need to see more of Ryan because I am obsessed with Ian Bohen. Idk how many parts this will have or how often it will get updated as I'm in the last few months of uni but I hope y'all enjoy!
Pairing: Ryan (Yellowstone) x Dutton!Reader (Kayce's twin sister)
WC: 1053
Next part
Disclaimer: Beyond watching Yellowstone I have zero/little knowledge of Western riding and the ranching lifestyle but I do know horses so that has certainly influenced this! I'm also English so writing dialogue correctly for them is not my strong point! If you find any issues please let me know!
---
The sun was just beginning to dip below the mountains and the cold was starting to set in when she joined him on the fence. Neither of them spoke for a while, just looking out at the vastness in front of them, all that was theirs but came with so many conditions. Â
Eventually she broke the silence, âso you told him? Howâd he take that one?â
Wordlessly he opened his shirt where the âYâ was just starting to scab over, still red and angry.
âMotherfucker,â she swore, âthis ainât fair Kayce. He doesnât just get to do this.â
He shook his head, âdad does whatever he wants and there ainât no consequences for him. Thatâs why I gotta do this.â
âShit man. Whatâs Monica gonna do? Besides worrying about you getting your ass shot in the desert miles from civilisation?â
Kayce chuckled, âbeats getting my ass shot in the middle of Montana miles from civilisation. Sheâll be okay, her family will help and sheâll be a teacher. Just like she planned. Itâs you Iâm worried about here with dad and no one else to speak sense to. âCept Leeâ
âWell Iâm leaving, dad be damned. Iâm not gonna be a pawn in his power trip. Gonna go see this godforsaken country and win it all so that when I come back he canât question whether itâs where I wanna be,â she declared.
Her brother rolled his eyes, âyou ainât talking about the same him now.â
âI donât know what your talking about,â she denied, staring out at the darkened mountains.
Kayce shoved her shoulder, âyou canât bullshit to me y/n. Thatâs the one problem with being twins, ainât no way to lie to me.â
âIâm just a kid to him, he ainât ever gonna see me any other way if I stay here,â she admitted, âhell if I stay here no one will ever see me as anything more than his kid. âS why we both gotta do this Kayce.â
He nodded, âno way to stand in the sun in this state, always gonna be a shadow.â
âWhen I come back Iâll be able to stand in sunlight so bright Iâll have a fucking halo.â
-/-/-
2 years laterâŠ
Montana has its charms all year round, but fall has a particular appeal. The leaves had started to turn, there was a chill in the air that only seemed to get stronger and there was still a frost on the grass that the sun hadnât hit. Â
With the sun keeping the cold from their bones, the Yellowstone ranch hands were occupying themselves keeping their roping skills fresh. Rip observed from the sidelines as the new hand struggled to keep up with Ryan who turned to lecture the kid about keeping his eye on the steer. Â
Lloyd rolled his eyes when he missed the horns again, âyou gotta try harder than that if you wanna be a wrangler!â
âHe keeps pulling the damn steer too early,â the hand argued back.
Ryan glared at him, âdonât fuckinâ blame me for your bad skills.â
Before they could descend into an all out brawl, the group were distracted by the sound and sight of truck coming down the road. They watched it pull up in front of the barn, trailer in tow. A rare silence occupied them as they watched a young woman step out, adjust her hat then stare out across the ranch in front of her.
âWell Iâll be damned,â Lloyd muttered, âsheâs back. You fuckinâ know about this?â
Rip said nothing, but his face gave the answer. The other hands who recognised her muttered between themselves about what she was doing back after so long.
The new hand leaned over towards Ryan, âwho the fuck is that and why does everybody care?â
âThat is y/n Dutton,â he answered without taking his eyes off of her.
âI didnât know John had another daughter,â he responded.
Ryan shook his head, âhell kid you gotta lot to learn about this place.â
âSheâs fuckinâ hot mind,â the hand murmered.
The older hand spat out his words, âyou keep words like that off your tongue if you want to keep it.â
Lee stepped out of the barn and stepped around the truck to greet her, âthe prodigal daughter returns.â
âI donât see Beth anywhere,â she laughed bitterly, âbut itâs good to see you Lee.â
He hugged her, âIâm glad youâre back. Been a long time coming.â
âI came back for me, not for him remember that,â she turned towards the corral, âthink Iâve given them enough of a show to explain it so they can pick their jaws up off the floor?â
He gestured for her to follow him towards where the ranch hands were all still quietly watching. She strode over to the group, smiling at Rip who nodded back at her.
âWhereâs that mare of yours?â He asked.
Y/n shrugged, âa champion barrel horse would be wasted on this ranch. Sold her for more money than Iâm ever gonna earn in the rest of my lifetime.â
âYou ainât rodeoing anymore?â Lloyd questioned.
âI did what I set out to do when I went on the circuit. Saw this godforsaken country and won it all. Itâd get boring to win it over again,â she moved her gaze towards where Ryan was watching her, âainât no one gonna question where I wanna be now.â
Rip nodded, âafraid we ainât got a horse to spare for you y/n.â
âI got that covered Rip. Got one coming up tomorrow from a ranch in Wyoming. Some fuckinâ old school boys who donât know how to be nice to a horse they didnât ruin,â she explained, âmanâs wife broke it and now sheâs dead ainât no one gonna ride him gentle. Figured he might stand a chance with me.â
Lloyd chuckled, âalways were a soft hand. Figured thatâs how you won it all.â
âGuess that question that remains is, do you have a place for me? Not in the house but here,â she clarified.
Lee looked at Rip then back at his sister, âI reckon so. You gonna stay in the bunkhouse?â
âOh fuck no,â y/n laughed, âI didnât drag that thing all the way from Texas to sleep with these fuckheads. Itâs looked after me in worse places. Think itâll do just fine here.â

Promise To Return Pt. 3
RECAP: He pressed his hands to his face, unable to stop the torrent of tears. All he could see was the half-faded memory of youâyour warm smile, the way you used to loop an arm around his shoulders or tug Bucky into a playful headlock. All he could hear was Buckyâs agonized accusation: 'maybe you never really believed in him coming back at all.' âItâs not true,â Steve whispered to the empty air, voice cracking. âI swear itâs not.â But there was no one around to hear him. Nothing but the echo of silence, and the ghost of your promise that youâd find your way homeâsomehow.
The first thing you noticeâevery time you wakeâis the stench. The cot beneath you is nothing but two sagging strips of army-issue canvas, always a little damp, always gritty with rust. Disinfectant and wet iron cling to the fabric so thickly you taste it when you breathe. You have learned to lie perfectly still in that stink: if your chains clink, if the mattress whispers, boots come pounding down the passage and the guards start shouting guttural orders you still canât translate.
So you drift. In the strip of darkness between one interrogation and the next, you summon the memory of a bedroom on Dean Street in Brooklyn: wallpaper peeling in fern-shaped curls, a radiator that clanged like church bells at sunrise, the bitter half-cup of coffee Steve always forgot on the night-stand. In that memory Steve lies on your leftâsmall shoulders braced against yours. Bucky stretches on your right, grin crooked, hair pushed off his forehead the way you used to tease it back for him.
Hold on, Steve murmurs in the daydream, mouth brushing the column of your throat, fingers combing through your hair with agonizing tenderness. Weâll come get you.
Damn right, Bucky adds, nipping your ear just to wrench a laugh out of you. Nobody keeps our boy for long.
The vision falters when the real shackles bite into your wrists. One blink and the dream burns away like a film strip thatâs caught fire. You are back in a stone bunker somewhere in occupied Europe, walls slick with condensation, one bare bulb buzzing overhead. Your wrists are chafed raw from being yanked above your head during âsessions,â and your ribs bloom fresh violets and indigos with every daybreak.
They call themselves Hydra. Some guards spit the word like a curse; the scientists whisper it like a benediction. You stopped counting interrogations after the tenth, stopped counting days when the bruises began to overlap until they were a single mottled shield. The questions were never about troop movements for long. Soon they started measuring your pulse, your lung capacity, the elasticity of your skin.
Every session ends the same. Thick needlesâlong as knitting needlesâslide beneath your clavicle or into the meat of your thigh. An icy solution floods your veins while a bespectacled man with nicotine-stained fingertips and an onion-sweet smell scribbles notes. He clucks his tongue when you pass out too quickly. âThe formula is close,â he tells the guards in stilted English. âOne more adjustment. Then we perfect our soldier.â
You repeat Steveâs promise like a prayer between your teeth, each syllable a bead on a rosary: I will come home. I will come home. You do not let yourself think about calendars or moon phases. Time is only the number of times you mistake hallucination for memory and the tally of bruises you can see without twisting your shoulders.
BROOKLYNâFIVE MONTHS AFTER THE LAST LETTER ARRIVED
Colonel Phillipsâs makeshift office smells like stale cigars and damp wool. Steve perches on one edge of a map-strewn desk, Bucky on the other, the distance between them suddenly unbridgeable. Center stage lies a single Western Union telegram, its block letters dark as a grave marker:
UNIT KIA/MIA. NO SURVIVORS LOCATED. SEARCH EFFORTS SUSPENDED.
âSuspended,â Steve echoes, voice too quiet for the room. Even pumped full of Dr. Erskineâs serum, he suddenly seems small beneath the fluorescent glare. âTheyâre leaving him out there like heâs a misplaced crate.â
Buckyâs jaw grinds. âThen we donât ask permission.â He slams the full magazine into the Colt and holsters it. âYouâve got the shield, the Howlies, the whole damn band. Tell Phillips Captain America is leading a reconnaissance extractionâand youâre taking me.â
Steveâs mouth twists. âThe colonel says one unsanctioned raid could compromiseââ
âColonel can shove it.â Bucky surges to his feet; the chair skitters back and thuds against a filing cabinet. Then softer, voice fissuring: âHeâs our man, Stevie. Our heart.â
Steveâs eyes sting as if someoneâs flung powder in them. âI know. Sometimes I swear I feel him reach for my hand in the dark.â He palms the space over his sternum where pain lodges like shrapnel. âBut tearing across enemy lines blind is suicide. We need coordinates, we needââ
âYou need faith.â Bucky snaps. âFaith like he had when he wrote us those damn letters! He believed we'd find each other. Donât make a liar of him.â
Steveâs temper finally snaps, voice dropping into the bassy snarl the Howling Commandos obey without thinking. âAnd I need you alive to reach him. Charging in half-cocked means three body bags instead of one.â Silence knifes between them. At last Steveâs glare falters, the hardness melting into grief.
âI love you,â he says, barely a whisper, like confession in church. âI canât lose you, too.â
Silence settles, heavy as snowfall after shellfire. Buckyâs chin tips downwardâperhaps to hide the quake in his lower lip. For weeks now neither of them has said those words, not since telegrams started talking of friendlies captured, bodies unclaimed. But the confession cracks something open between them, and when Bucky finally lifts his gaze, determination burns hotter than grief.
âThen donât.â He reaches out, fingers brushing the star on Steveâs chest. âLead the way. Iâll have your back. Like always.â Steve laces their hands and nodsâonce, hard enough to set his jaw. Neither knows your captors wear a serpent on their sleeves.
A FEW WEEKS LATERâHYDRA FACILITY, ALPINE SECTOR
The screech of un-oiled hinges detonates in the dark like artillery. You jolt awake, lungs dragging rank bunker-air that tastes of copper and damp limestone. Floodlights bloom, wiping the world to white. Before your pupils can shrink, two guardsâfaces hidden behind gas-mask snoutsâseize your arms. Your legs forget how to stand; boots skid as they haul you into a corridor lit sickly yellow.
Walls on either side are chalked with looping equationsâspidery Greek letters and jagged rune-like sigils. Behind iron slats, cages shudder and clang. Something inside them growls deep and wet, a bass thunder that does not belong to rats. You keep your eyes forward. Knowing the shapes of monsters never saved anyone here.
The final door yawns open with a refrigerated hiss. The laboratory reminds you of an abattoir scrubbed obsessively clean: stainless tables bead antiseptic sweat, surgical lamps hover like pale moons, and the floor drains gurgle faintly, as if remembering last nightâs spill. In the center stands Dr. Arnim Zola, all paunch and pince-nez, round lenses glinting like freshly honed blades.
âOur resilient volunteer returns,â he trills, precise Swiss vowels wrapping the words in gift-paper menace. âTonight, herr Liebling, we perfect greatness.â
Youâre slammed onto a steel gurney. Leather cinches your wrists, ankles, chest, throatâeach buckle tugged one notch too tight until bone protests. Overhead, a serpentine glass coil throbs with luminous emerald fluid; it pulses lazily, a counterfeit heartbeat. Zola twists a brass valve, and the liquid siphons through tubing into a syringe longer than your hand.
He leans close enough that you smell pickled onions on his breath. âThe Red Skull teaches that pain is the crucible of revelation. Endure, and perhaps you will witness history rather than feed it.â
The needle descends.
The first puncture blooms coldâa glacial spear sliding under skinâthen detonates into molten copper. Fire stampedes along every nerve, igniting spinal fuses, blistering behind your eyes. Your back arches; shackles screech. Sound rips out of you, a roar ragged enough to strip your throat raw, but the cell walls swallow it whole.
Memories burst like flares against the agony:
Steveâs grin as the Cyclone crested at Coney Island, freckles bright under salt wind.
Bucky cackling, shoving a mustard-slathered hot dog into your hand because âyouâre wasting away, pal.â
Their bodies braided with yours beneath summer sheets, salt-slick and fearless.
Stars fracture across your vision. Your skeleton feels elastic, bones warping as if kneaded by invisible hands. Organs twist, lungs seize, blood hammers so violently you swear you can hear itâa kettledrum in your ears. You taste metal, then ozone. If begging would help, you would bite through your own tongue to do it, but words melt under the heat.
Zola watches, entranced, fountain pen twitching notes onto a clipboard. âFascinating,â he murmurs when your skin silvers with sweat and your screams gutter to hitching gasps. âSchmidt will be pleased.â

There's a real unearned confidence to the way that Social Democrats talk about their ideology, like they've cracked the code and found the perfect way forward and the only reason people disagree is because they're misguided or evil. Like they'll correctly point out problems within Neoliberal Capitalism before spouting some absolute nonsense about how uniquely evil and dysfunctional Communism was (nearly always in the past tense too; they take it for granted that the end of the USSR was the end of all Communism) and then going "Don't worry though, there's a third way; a mixed regulated economy. We can have a free market in consumer goods while making sure that corporations pay their fair share in wages and taxes that can fund the welfare that looks after everyone". And like putting aside the fact that such a model relies on the super-profits of imperialist exploitation to actually function, and the inherent instability of an arrangement where the Bourgeoisie make concessions even while maintaining ultimate control of the economy, there's the simple fact that much of the Imperial Core did indeed had Social Democracy but does not anymore.
Like these Social Democrats never think about why that might be, why their ideology failed and what they can learn from it going forward. They just act as though some dumb individuals (i.e. Ronald Reagan, Milton Friedman etc.) managed to slip into power and make bad decisions and like the best way to fix this is to vote good people in who'll change it back. Like hell a lot of these people take the previous existence of these policies as like a good point, the whole "We had them before so we aren't being radical by wanting them back. We don't want anything crazy we just wanna bring back The New Deal or Keynesian Economic policy or whatever". There's never any thought about why those policies failed (how often do you hear these people even talk about "stagflation" or "the oil crisis" let alone the impact of the fall of the soviet union) and what implications this might have on the viability of bringing it back. They also love talking about how Social Democratic institutions are still largely intact in the Scandinavian countries, but rather than even consider what specific factors in their political-economic situation led to this these people just go "Damn isn't Sweden great. Why aren't we doing exactly what they do?"
And sure some people might compare this to Marxism-Leninism, the whole "trying to bring back a defeated ideology", but for one it's stupid to treat the dissolution of the USSR as the end of Communism as a global political force. It may have been a major blow, but even if you write off like Cuba and Vietnam as too small and insignificant to matter you can't just fucking ignore that over 1/6 of the world's population continues live under a Marxist Leninist party. Whatever concessions these countries may have made to global Capitalism, it's just plain ignorant to act as though Communism suffered anywhere near the humiliating loss of global power and credibility that Social Democracy has. Sure the latter may be more politically acceptable to toy with in "The West", but "The Western World" â The Entire World. Also, nearly every ML on the planet is painfully aware that Soviet Communism collapsed and that it collapsed for a reason. There might be plenty of contention about why exactly it died and what exactly we can learn from this, but nearly everyone agrees that we need to learn and ideologically grow. No serious Communist wants to "bring back the USSR" in the same way that many Social Democrats want to "bring back The Welfare State". Far from being a form of "best of both worlds" mixed economy, Social Democracy is nothing more than a flimsy tool to stabilise Imperialist Capitalism at its moments of greatest strain. And if people are still gonna promote it wholeheartedly as the best possible solution, I wish they'd be a little less arrogant about it. It's not as though they have history on their side

Commander Lyle Rourke x Girlfriend!Reader || Excerpt

Pictures are Rourke when he is away from his book nerd Y/N đ
Plot: Just a lil snapshot of Rourke and his overstimulated girlfriend decompressing after a long day together.
Warnings: ---
You're fully immersed in the book you're reading, falling chandeliers and masked balls, so you pay no mind when Lyle pushed the door open. The door squeals on the hinges, and the bed creaks when he gets in behind you, and he groans with exhaustion and the pure relief of laying down in bed after a long day, but you don't look up. You've been together long enough that you don't have to.
You're both exhausted today. He's just home from a voyage, so you went out together and you stayed out for the entire damn day; now your bones ache and your ears ring and the only thing to calm your mind is your book.
After a few more moments and a page turned, Lyle rolls over and draws you into him, an arm around your waist. You finally release a sigh, feeling his body firm and warm against yours. God you missed him. "What's the book?" He asks, his gravelly voice quiet and soft as can be. You're tired, but you feel a certain warmth creep into your chest at his asking. He always asks about the books you read, and he always remembers; Its that military brain.
"No good old fashioned western, I'm afraid." You whisper back, a tiny ghost of a grin on your mouth- despite your achy body and slight headache from being out all day long.
"Thats alright, tell me anyway." Oh, he always sounds so grumpy. But its just his scary man voice- he means what he asks.
"... Phantom of the Opera. I picked it up at a book market a few weeks ago." The memory of the book market you went to alone, when Lyle was off on his treasure hunt, makes you happy. You wish he could've gone with you- you'd love to hold his hand while you browse. Watch the big scary man sift through the cowboy books for a bit and maybe pick up one. He'd carry all your books for you, never complaining (He'd want to. He'd roll his eyes when you aren't looking and maybe even sometimes when you are- but he wouldn't complain outright. You're his lady, and as such you demand a little more respect out of him.), and put 'build Y/N a new shelf' on his to-do list. "... its about a disfigured hermit in love with a beautiful chorus girl."
... Grinning, you can practically hear Lyle's eyeroll. "Huh." Too romantic for him.
"He also kills some people."
"Interesting book." He doesnt sound like he finds it interesting. He sounds like he finds it crazy. But again- you're his lady. And he's gotta at least pretend.
... finally you put your book down, face down and open to the page you were up to, and roll over under the covers to embrace the warmth emanating from from Lyle's chest. You give a deep sigh, burying your face in his chest. "I missed you." You whisper, exhausted but fully content in this moment. He'll go again, you know he will, and you love your life still when he's gone, but you've learned to enjoy these moments when he's here. With you. Thinking about you.
"Yeah I missed you too, darlin."

YOUâRE TELLING ME LORE OLYMPUS WON THE EISNER FOR A THIRD YEAR???
The comic where the author submitted the series finale 20 minutes before it was set to release?
The comic where the R4pist and main villain whoâs been built up for 3 seasons gets community service for committing several heinous crimes?
The comic where a grown man lusts after a sheltered 19 year old and weâre expected to think itâs the âhealthiest relationship everâ, despite said 19 year old literally having a breakdown that she doesnt know anything about herself because of her marriage?
The comic that disrespects greek myth and culture as a whole; where characters are made fun of for wearing Ancient Greek fashion and our GREEK gods have a christian wedding instead of the beautiful traditions of Greek marriage?
The comic that claims to be feminist but ultimately bastardizes the tale of Demeter and Persephone, making Demeter an âoverbearing momâ (although sheâs the most logical in the comic) and just someone who wants to ruin the âbeautiful marriageâ of Hades and Persephone
The comic that shares way too many parallels from the 1997 film Lolita?
The comic where the male love interest and the male antagonist really share no differences aside from color palette?
The comic where the view count has been dipping under the 100kâs since the beginning of season 3?
The comic that ended with a terribly choreographed fight and nuclear family photo excluding both of Hades and Persephoneâs adopted children, which left both fans and antis extremely disappointed?
Youâre telling me that people went out of their way to vote for a comic that has beyond disappointed them and has always been plagued with terrible writing, instead of the beautiful art and personability of Asturias: The Origin of a Flag, or the quirky style of Unfamiliar? This is not fair voting. This is the result of Webtoon wanting to keep their poster child alive for a few more months after its finale, because once Lore Olympus finally fades away, their western market will die, which will kill their recent investment in the market.
I, for one, cannot wait to watch them fall on their face for continuing this damned comic.

Did you know that Julian Cope (of Teardrop Explodes and countless solo albums) has an abiding interest in archeology and spent eight years writing a book cataloging major neolithic sites in Britain? Itâs called The Modern Antiquarian (1998) and as is so often the case with these sorts of things, itâs impressively massive. He spent an additional six years on a follow-up that catalogs similar sites on the European continent called The Megalithic European (2004). Together, youâre looking at 900+ pages of essays, photos, maps and on-site observations.
Iâm not sure what to make of Copeâs big picture musings in the essays. I donât know nearly enough about research into neolithic practices to be able comment, honestly, but two things kept popping into my head while I was reading them. First, Iâm always a little wary of arguments that remind me of Margaret Murrayâs thesis in The Witch-Cult in Western Europe (basically, that there was a unified fertility cult suppressed by Christianity as witchcraft) because there is really no proof of such a thing, even though it makes for damn good fiction. Cope kinda reminds me of Murray. Second, thereâs this bit in one of Alan Garnerâs essays in The Voice that Thunders where he points out that while we can say things like âStonehenge works as an astronomical toolâ with great certainty, we canât actually say that the ancients used it as such; without a written record, its impossible to prove, and that creates an incredible tension between lack of certainty and self-evident plausibility. A lot of stuff can go wrong in the gap there. (I should probably note that I adore Garner, but also often find him worthy of skeptical bafflement periodically as well).
Anyway, setting aside Copeâs theories, you still have a massive gazetteer of neolithic sites, complete with all the information you need to visit them, whether in person, or, like me thus far, from your armchair. I canât stress how wonderful this is, to have all this information in one place and to have its incredible variety photographed so thoroughly. I doubt there is anything quite like The Modern Antiquarian out there and, if there is, let me know, because I want a copy.

"Mierda!"
The curse fell from the lips of the notorious bounty hunter, Miguel OâHara, upon dodging yet another set of flying bullets being shot at him. He growled, straightening up on his saddle and giving the reins of his ebony horse a sharp snap, pressing the spurs of his boots into its side to urge his adored stallion faster.
He couldnât let you get away again.Â
Not this time...
Miguel OâHara was a famous bounty hunter who was known throughout the Wild West for his reputation as a relentless tracker and unmatched sharpshooter. The mere mention of his name struck fear into the hearts of outlaws, knowing that if you had a hefty price and were on the bounty hunterâs list, you were as good as captured, or in some casesâŠÂ
Dead.
Although Miguel had an infamous reputation of being the end of many ruthless and cunning outlaws, there was one that always managed to slip through his fingersâŠ
You.
Y/N, the vaquera with the excellent aim, sexy body, and witty tongue always seemed to continuously evade his capture. He couldnât help but despise the woman just as much as he secretly admired her.
It was always that damn mouth of hersâŠ
She could sweet-talk and charm almost anyone, even the infamous bounty hunter, which was the reason behind his countless missed arrests of the beautiful vaquera.
But not today.
Miguel was going to make sure of it.
"Vamos, Xian! Vamos!" Miguel shouted to his horse, his body leaning forward as his black stallion snorted in response, her hooves thudding faster against the rocky and dry terrain of the desert. Miguel's black durst coat blew behind him in the wind as his mahogany eyes were trained on your figure, riding upon your horse just a few miles ahead.
A wicked smirk spread across the hunterâs lips upon getting closer to you.
âYou arenât getting away this time.â
Miguel thought, effortlessly, he hoisted his iconic steel six-shooter from its holster, aiming the long barrel directly at you, who was galloping at lightning speed to escape the notorious bounty hunter. With a click of his thumb upon the hammer to cock the gun, he didnât hesitate to shoot, pulling the trigger.
Only for a second, the piercing sound of the bulletâs release reverberated through the desert, to be followed with a frustrated snarl from the hunter at the sight of you dodging it.
You let out a gasp, one hand flying up to clutch your brown wide-brimmed hat to keep it from flying away, just as you veered your horse to the left to avoid the passing bullet.
You glanced over your shoulder with a taunting smirk on your cherry lips, the sight only making Miguelâs blood boil. âStop fuckinâ runnin'!â He bellowed, his gruff voice full of rage with a potent Western and Latino accent.
A soft laugh passed your lips at him. âStop chasinâ me then!â You shouted back with an amused smile that almost took Miguelâs breath away; but in that brief moment of awe, he didnât notice when the attractive vaquera pulled her gun out, firing at him once more.
His attempt at dodging the bullet was unsuccessful as a loud whine from his horse filled the desert.
âXina!â
Miguel exclaimed in shock and worry, feeling his stallion stagger in her steps and begin to slow down. His mahogany eyes snapped up to see you getting further away from him, Xinaâs whimpers of pain bringing his attention back to his wounded horse as he knew she wouldnât be able to keep up with you.
Not in this stateâŠ
At that revelation, irritation filled Miguel's being. âShit! I almost had her!â He hissed in frustration, watching the beautiful vaquera ride off into the distance. He clenched the reins of his horse tightly, trying to calm his anger.
âIâll find you again, Cariño.Â
I promise youâŠâ
It was now evening, and you were sitting inside a saloon in a town you'd encountered, enjoying a nice glass of whiskey after your successful getaway from the infamous bounty hunter.
âAnother glass, and keep âem cominâ,â you exclaimed to the bartender with a grin as he poured you another glass of the alcoholic drink.
You smiled, bringing the whiskey to your lips when you, suddenly, felt something hard press into your side. You winced at the sensation of the solid object being jabbed harshly into your ribs before a warm and overpowering presence came over you.
"Holler or make any sudden moves, and Iâll gladly put a bullet in ya.â
You bit your lip, instantly recognizing the deep voice of the owner of the gun currently prodding into your inner organs. âWhy, if it ainât Miguel OâHara. Itâs nice to see ya again.â You chuckled in a breathy tone due to the piercing pain, watching the large bounty hunter take a seat on a wooden stool beside you at the bar. His grip on his gun seemed to tighten after your greeting.
You couldnât help the smile that spread across your lips at the sight of the massive, stoic Latino.
Miguel OâHara was a hunter youâve never met beforeâso determined, stern, and versatile. He was honestly a jack of all trades, and one that had greatly piqued your interest upon encountering him for the first time six months ago.
Dressed like a shadow, he was adorned in his usual attire of a black durst coat, collared shirt, pants, and black sturdy boots. A wide-brimmed hat, with a skull, also sat upon his head of coffee-brown curls and tanned, rugged features.
Instantly upon meeting his cold mahogany orbs, you knew heâd be fun to play withâmore than the other hunters. But you had to admit, the Latino didnât get his great reputation senselessly.
He always gave you a run for your moneyâjust like nowâŠ
You peered at the silent bounty hunter, trying to suppress the urge to wince from his gun still poking into your side. Your eyes roamed his face, taking in his hardened expression of a clenched jaw and permanent scowl that could curdle milk. His mahogany eyes, hooded by his black hat, traced your seated figure.
You could see the conflict occurring behind those enchanting orbs of his.
He was trying to make sense of you, but he simply couldnâtâŠ
In all of Miguelâs years of being a bounty hunter, you always seemed to surprise him. With a loaded gun pressed into your side that could be fired any moment, you didnât seem a bit fazed.
Heâd seen outlaws that practically shit their pants at being held at gunpoint, yet you continued to drink your whiskey and kick your legs under the table like you were enjoying a nice lilâ ride on a wagon.
The bounty hunter was secretly impressed, but that damn taunting smirk of yours was working his last nerve.
âI canât say the same 'bout you, chica,â he bluntly replied, leaning in close, as you instsntly felt his anger radiating from his body.
âYou not only robbed that fuckinâ train, but you shot my damn horse.â He spat harshly, his voice full of malice. His gun dug deeper into your side, and his face was so close to yours that your breath was practically mixing. âAnd you hurt my Xina; I should shoot you dead right here.Â
Right now.â
The bounty hunter threatened through gritted teeth. You rolled your eyes, hearing him say the same thing before. âThen why don't you?â You asked, taking a sip of your whiskey.
Miguel's thick eyebrows furrowed in confusion at your inquiry, his puzzlement only making him angrier. Once again, you were using that sharp tongue of yours to try and screw with his brain. âWhat shit are you yappinâ now?â He growled, irritation found in his voice.
A snicker left your cherry lips at the hunterâs perplexion. âIt's not that hard a question, Miguel.â You giggled, peering over at him from under the hood of your brown hat.
âWhy haven't you shot me dead yet, hm?â
You smirked, watching his tan, rugged features scrunch up further in rage, the sight pleasing you immensely.
Miguel's grip tightened upon the handle of his pistol, his teeth clenched so harshly that he believed they'll break any moment. âPerhaps I'd rather see how that pretty face of yers would hold up in prison.â
You laughed, taking note of his compliment. âWhatever you sayâŠâ You snickered, turning to take another sip of your whiskey.
"Whatever I fuckinâ say!?" Miguel snarled, unable to believe how nonchalantly you were taking him. Most outlawsâ attitudes would hastily change at the mere presence of the infamous bounty hunter, but here you were, still badmouthing him and acting like this was a joke.
It was only enraging Miguel furtherâŠ
His scowl deepened as he sharply thrust the barrel of his six-shooter into your side, making you groan. âHere you are playinâ games and talkinâ shit like this is just a fun lilâ evening for ya.â
âBecause it is.â You retorted, trying to ignore how your side would surely be bruised with how deep his gun was burrowed into your skin, despite being covered by your shirt.
Miguel figured you'd say that, but it still didn't make him less pissed.
âThen I'll love nothinâ more than to wipe that damn smirk from yer face, especially after what ya did to my precious Xina.â Miguel threatened, his mahogany eyes seeming to become a scarlet red at his seething anger.
You scoffed, shooting him a glare. âThis fuckinâ horse again?!â You spat in irritation. âI believe your damn horse is real fine.â You replied, casting a glance at the entrance of the saloon to see his ebony horse standing behind the gated entrance. She looked relatively healthy, aside from a bandage upon the side of her massive black body. âStop over exaggerating; it looks like just a darn graze to me.â
âAnd that fucking âgrazeâ is going to cost me a hefty sum of cash,â he sternly said, but despite how angry he was at youâŠ
Damn, you were too sexy for your own goodâŠ
He couldnât help letting his eyes drift down your body, taking in your vaquera attire of a simple pair of dark blue, slim-fitted pants and a matching button-up with brown fringe along your outfit. A set of brown boots and a wide-brim hat sat upon your head. He also took notice of how the outfit seemed to accentuate every piece of you.
Your attire was not only breathtaking, but it broke all the regulations assigned by men when it came to the makeup of a woman. Unlike the proper lady, pants adorned your gorgeous legs instead of the usual housewife skirt.
However, despite how rebellious your entire outfit was, it made you look hotter than a Texas summer; your stunning body was a quality the bounty hunter couldnât get enough of, and it never failed to stir a wave of conflicting emotions through him.
Miguel cleared his throat, shaking off his adoration and lust for you to replace it with the annoying and rageful traits you shared instead. He leaned in close, his western and Latino-accented voice dropping to a low whisper.
"You must be aware of the hefty bounty on yer head, donât ya, princesa?â He inquired in a hushed tone, not wanting anyone to overhear.
Miguel's breath fanned against your cheek due to his closeness, the sensation causing tingles to run down your backside. âIndeed, I do.â You simply stated. âA thousandâŠCorrect?â
Miguel laughed darkly at your reply, shaking his head. âAfter your little shenanigans in that boom town last month, your price has been raised, sweetheart.â He uttered, your sweet natural scent along with the sweat and dirt on your skin filling his senses, igniting his concealed desire.
âFive thousand...â
The hunter stated, causing your heart to drop. However, your face held its usual unbothered expression upon hearing the new price. You looked away from him, snatching up your glass of whiskey in frustration. Miguel smirked, watching you gulp down the rest of your glass in hopes of calming your nerves.
âFive thousand is on your head, dead or alive, querida.â He said, finally taking notice of your adamant attempt to avoid his eyes, the sight angering him.
Without warning, he took your chin in his large, gloved hand, snapping your head to meet his stern and rageful ones. Your eyebrows furrowed in a mix of anger and surprise upon his sudden action.
âBe thankful I haven't filled ya with lead, chica, with yer attitude that option is seeminâ more and more temptinâ.â He growled, his eyes roaming the beautiful face that has caused so many problems in the West. Your beauty only fueling his fury.
âYou've been a damn thorn in my side since your first robbery down in the Southwest.â He rasped, his gloved fingers tightening around your jaw as with his every word, his barrel pressed deeper into your side, causing your eyebrows to screw together in pain.
You groaned softly, glaring daggers at him, and noticed some of the customers of the saloon starting to look over at the two of you.
âI'll be darn, that's Miguel O'Hara, ain't it. Look, Willy, ain't it?â
âAnd here I thought you were pullinâ my leg, Hank. That is himâbut wait⊠and that's that cowgirl too, right?â
âShoot dang, it is!â
The chatter of two loud older male customers filled your ears. Their recognition of not just Miguel but also you really pissed you off.
âI didn't come here to cause a damn scene and draw attention to myself. Got enough shit to deal with as it is.â
You thought angrily, deciding it was time to make your exit. With an endearing grin, you gazed up at the bounty hunter, placing a hand onto his forearm that grasped your jaw and giving it a gentle caress with your fingertips. âMiguel, dear, we've been at each other's throats for months nowâŠain't we, babes?â You stated with a pout, continuing to brush the pad of your fingers along his arm with your eyes trained on him.
The bounty hunter completely stiffened at your touch, his mahogany eyes glancing down to your hand before snapping back to you.
He knew you were trying to seduce him with your alluring eyes, hypnotizing touch, and sultry voice, but damn was it hard to resist you. His desire was already growing, and your enticement was only feeding the flames.
âWe haveâŠâ He practically growled through gritted teeth, the only thing keeping him stable was his grip on his steel six-shooter that was still piercing into your ribs, reminding him of his duties and reputation along with the importance of him detaining youâŠ
Or killing youâŠ
Miguel's eyes, practically red, glared down at you; seeing the bounty hunter angry always seemed to rile you up even more. You bit your lip, running your fingers up to his bare wrist, the only bit of skin that wasn't concealed by his sleeve or leather gloves.
You traced your fingertips along the valley of bulging veins that resided there, keeping your eyes on him. âIndeed, hunterâŠso perhaps, we can become allies instead of enemies, eh?â You suggested while caressing his wrist.
Miguel's jaw clenched, unable to ignore the wave of heat that was spreading through his being at your touch, and he only became more enraged at his body's adorning responses.
It was always like this with youâŠ
He finally gets you cornered with nowhere else to go, believing he has won before you allure him enough to give him the slip.
Miguel had promised himself that today would be different, that today would be the day he would finally catch you; but with the way you were looking up at him from under your beautiful eyelashes, stroking his wrist and speaking to him so seductivelyâŠ
He was close to taking you right there at the bar.
âI don't align myself with people, let alone outlaws, miel.â He said, trying to stay focused on his mission and not the growing excitement in his pants.
At his rejection, your pout deepened.
âAnd here I thought the last time we met up like this was somethinâ specialâŠâ
You slyly trailed off with a devious grin, watching, for a moment, as the bounty hunterâs thick eyebrows furrowed in disbelief and shock.
âShe really went there.â Miguel thought, smirking at the recollection of his previous heated encounter with the beautiful vaquera and how very pleasing it was.
He removed his revolver from your side, tucking it back into his holster but not removing his large hand that encased your jaw. âYou think bringinâ that up is going to save your sexy ass?â He inquired with a chuckle, his words bringing a smile to your lips. âNoâŠnot with you.â You giggled, batting your lashes up at him. âYou are too smart for that.â
Miguelâs eyes narrowed in frustration. He hated how slick that mouth of yours wasâit was like an eel dipped in oil, able to outwit and outsmart anyone with just a smile and a little teasing.
And goodness, did you love to teaseâŠ
You grinned, looking up at Miguel. âMmm, but just think of how good it was, Miggy.â You uttered, moving your hands to run along the front of his duster coat, gripping the flaps and pulling him closer to you.
Miguel growled softly, his pants seeming to become painfully tighter the more you spoke and talked to him.
With a glance down, it wasn't hard to miss how aroused the hunter was. The enormity under the black fabric of his trousers demanding attention and yours, in particular. You smirked, finally having him under your control.
âYou remember, don't ya?â You whispered, leaning in closely to the hunter's face, his stern expression faltering at your nearness.Â
Miguel tried hard to resist you, but it was like he was under your spell, feeling your lips ghost along his jaw, up to his ear.
âHow good ya felt in my throat and how well I took ya?â
You muttered seductively into his ear while removing a hand from his coat to trail down his chest. Your fingers tracing his bulging pecs and abs as you descended further.Â
âJust imagine how good yer feel elsewhere? PerhapsâŠâ
Your fingers found what you desired, looping through his front belt loop of his pants, and tugging him towards you with a seductive grin. A gasp escaped his lips, his black-gloved hand landing on your arm, ceasing your movements as his mahogany, slightly dazed, and lustful eyes gazed down at you. Your hands upon his pants, temptingly close to where he wanted you the most, drove him to the edge.
You instantly became surprised, the rare sight of such an expression upon your gorgeous face enough to cause him to stir underneath his briefs; however, he was once again conflictedânot knowing if he should listen to his head or his desires when it came to you.
You were just too risky to let go, and too sexy to lock upâŠ
And there was a wretched part of him that didn't want to see the sexy vaquera in bars, regardless of how much of a pain in the ass you were.
So, what should be done with you...?
You gazed up at Miguel, taking notice of how his stoic expression had returnedâthat attractive smirk of his gone and replaced with his scowl like before. Your heart skipped a beat at the sight.
Was he not buying it? Â
Was he about to arrest you?Â
Shit, you were nervous as hell.
âMiguel? Babes-â
âStand up.â
Miguel abruptly said, removing his hand from your jaw and pulling away. You laughed nervously, reaching out for his gloved hand.  âO-Oh, Miggy, who knew you were quite the funny one-â Your dismissive words were cut off by the hunter suddenly swatting your hand from him and hastily grabbing your arms, pulling you onto your feet. A gasp passed your lips at his rough actions.
âWhat the hell?!â You shouted as effortlessly, Miguel tossed your body over his broad shoulder as if you were featherlight. His burly arm wrapped around the back of your thighs to hold you firmly against his massive body.
You scoffed in disbelief, laying upon what felt like a boulder for a shoulder. âWhat the fuck is wrong with ya! I-If you don't put me down, ya sidewindinâ two-faced piece of shit!â You hollered whilst punching his backside in hopes of him releasing you, but to the hunter, you were like a dust devilâall wind and no impact.
Miguel turned, taking notice of the obvious attention the two of you were bringingâmany of the customers now staring. The hunter tipped his hat to the fellow individuals of the saloon in a gesture of apology. âPardon the ruckus, folks, this just business.â Miguel said in his usual, gruff voice, the vibrations of his tone rumbling throughout his massive body.
With a smirk, the bounty hunter carried you out of the saloon, your loud and repetitive kicks and curses following the two of you.
Miguel stepped outside, taking in the earthy and sagebrush scent of the new town he'd tracked you down to, named Roca Roja. It was a town that he could count on his fingers how many times he'd visited, but currently, he'd never seen so many bodies decorating the streets, especially as the sun was now setting on the horizon.
However, he couldn't exactly enjoy the nice, dry breeze of night with your damn yelling in his ear.
âI don't know what the hell is goinâ on in that thick skull of yer's, but yer've done lost yer darn mind!â You yelled from atop Miguel's shoulder as his black boots crunched under the rocky terrain of Roca Roja.
He continued to ignore your insults and shouts, clicking his tongue to signal his horse that fell into step beside him.
The hunter's Xina, an Appaloosa with a beautiful white spotted pattern down her ebony backside and around her snout, walked next to the both of you. Her loud snorts and clomps of her hooves filled the night and drawing your attention, but what really caught your eye was the nicely wrapped bandage that covered her torso.
You averted your eyes from the horse, feeling slightly guilty, but your demands and protests never ceased while the hunter continued to bring you to this unknown location. âWhere are ya even takinâ me!?â You exclaimed, continuing another barrage of heavy punches to his muscular backside to no avail. His boulder of a shoulder digging into your already bruised side, only further angering you.
Your punches and kicks were completely useless to the huge male. Once you became tired, you slumped upon his shoulder, wincing slightly at how it continued to jab into your bruised ribs. You scowled, glaring over at the hunter. âWhat the hell is the matter with ya? Kidnappinâ a gal like this is a crime too if ya didn't know!â You shouted in annoyance.
Miguel heaved an irritated sigh, not understanding how a sexy thing like you can have such a nasty attitude. âIf ya stop ya bitchin' I just might answer yer questions!â He shouted back at you.
A growl passed your cherry lips, finally quieting down to allow the hunter to speak. âNowâŠwhat's going through that pretty nogginâ of yer's is correct.
I'm takinâ ya in.â
Your eyes widened at his words, hastily, returning back to trying to escape.
You'll be damned if you go to jail so easily like thisâŠ
Swift hands flew to your holsters on your hips to find them empty, your revolvers missing from their places. The dark laughter from the hunter following your discovery only made your heart drop.
âLooking for yer guns, Cariño?â He taunted, giving your ass a playful smack, making you jolt. The sensation left you in a mix of anger and arousal at his spank. âYer been a bad gal, so no guns for a beaut like you.â
You snarled, glaring at him. âSo what!? After everythinâ we've been through, yer just gonna throw me to the wolves? You know what they'll do to me in there!â You exclaimed, trying to hide the worry in your tone at possibly being a part of such an unsanitary place with harsh conditions that could cause any sane person to lose their sanity.
Miguel's arm tightened around your thighs, his heart shamefully tugging. âDon't tell me yer scared, vaquera,â he teased, continuing to walk through town with you over his shoulder. âShut it, hunter,â you scowled, delivering another punch to his backside in rage that only left him laughing. âWhy, if ya do the crime, ya do the time. You know the law,â he replied.
You heaved a sigh, not believing after all your fun you would be sent to a place so hideous and dehumanizingâ some jails didn't even separate by genders.Â
You'll surely lose your mind in thereâŠ
âYer notâŠseriously goinâ to take me back to Nueva Yorkano in one night, ain't ya?â you inquired, hoping it was a ânay.â
Miguel grunted, acknowledging that his horse, Xina, wouldn't be able to make a trip to the town, Nueva Yorkano, where you were most wanted in, without breaks, especially at night. There were many obstacles a traveler could encounterâcoyotes, ruthless vaqueros, the harsh elements, and the extreme drop in temperature were all your enemies on a night journey through the desert.
The hunter cast a glance over at his horse whose steps were already starting to slow down. His wounded stallion hurt him more than anything due to him raising her from just a young foal; seeing her like this tore him up inside.
âNay, we'll be gettinâ a room,â Miguel stated, clicking his tongue and gesturing with his head for his horse to follow him to the right, changing his destination to the nearest inn.
A grin spread across your cherry lips at your delayed arrest.
âPerhaps, I can escape before we-â
âFuck! What the hell!?!â You exclaimed at the sharp spank Miguel delivered to your rear, the smack pulling you from your thoughts and leaving an intense sting. âDon't get any funny ideas, chica, I'm still pissed at you about Xina,â he growled. âSo try anythinâ, I won't hesitate to rough you up, got it!?â
You rubbed your sizzling rear-end, muttering under your breath. âRough me upâŠâ You scoffed, rolling your eyes. âYou won't dare put ya hands on me,â you said from atop his shoulder as Miguel heard every word, bringing a smirk to his lips.
âWhyâŠthere are other ways I can âroughâ you up, Muñeca.â
Miguel uttered suggestively; one could dare say the hunter was flirting with you. You chuckled, smiling over at the stoic male. âWell, puttinâ it like that, it sounds like somethinâ I wouldn't mind experiencinâ then.â You giggled.
Miguel grunted in irritation at your comment, trying to ignore how turned on he became at your response. His mahogany eyes located a small inn nearby, its sign holding in big letters:
âCobweb Comfort.â
âWe'll rest there,â Miguel replied, walking over as you looked over in the direction he was taking you, a groan passing your lips.
âYou must be pullinâ my leg, Miguel. Here! Of all places!?â you whined, taking in the rustic and aged inn with paint peeling from its walls from years of neglect and windows layered with desert dust.
The closer Miguel got to the place, you could make out the uneven porch, loud creaking rocking chairs that sat upon it, and the nearby stable that showed many signs of disrepair but held many horses inside.
Everything about the inn was distasteful in your eyes, wishing to reside elsewhere that actually gave some care to the appearance of their establishment unlike this one.
Despite your complaints, the hunter ignored you, signaling for his horse to wait by the door before going into the inn.
The door creaked open, and you observed how the tall hunter's hand clutched his black hat as he slightly lowered to pass under the short doorway upon entering.
The interior of the inn looked quite similar to its exterior, with peeling wallpaper, heavily scuffed floors, and faded landscape paintings upon the walls.
Miguel's eyes took in the lobby of the rustic inn, instantly making contact with a rather familiar man sitting behind a weathered wooden counter. The innkeeper seemed more invested in smoking and reading his book to even notice the both of your arrival.
You scoffed. âTrash-ass customer service too. Darn, didn't see that cominâ.â You mumbled sarcastically with an eye-roll, earning an annoyed grunt from Miguel.
The hunter approached the desk, his boots thudding upon the wooden floorboards, causing it to creak with his every step. The wood and smoky scent only intensified the further he walked into the inn.
Miguel peered over the counter, staring intently at the male that looked to be his same age, who was still oblivious to him having customers. Strangely, the innkeeper seemed familiar to the hunter, but due to the few oil lamps that hang from hooks inside the lobby, he was unable to see him clearly.
Miguel cleared his throat, hastily getting the male's attention, his amber eyes glancing up in surprise. âAh, pardon me, didn't see ya there.â He chuckled, closing his book and standing from his chair, although, upon making eye contact, both men recognized each other.
âWell, I'll be damned, Miguel O'Hara! My buddy!â The guy said, giving the stoic man a friendly pat on the shoulder that the hunter simply glanced at.
Peter B. Parker was a bubbly and too jolly innkeeper that Miguel had saved a few months ago from being shot dead by an outlaw he'd been tailing. On the spot, the auburn-haired man bought Miguel drinks and offered him a free spot anytime at his inn to repay himâbut the hunter didn't think he'd ever actually encounter him againâŠ
Miguel gave Peter a mere grunt for a greeting, the male snickering as he exhaled the smoke from his cigarette. âStill not much of a talker, I see.â Peter joked.
Your eyebrows rose in surprise at Miguel actually having friends.
You never would have thoughtâŠ
You peered over your shoulder at the innkeeper, making eyes with the rugged-featured male that had auburn short, slick back hair upon an ivory skin tone face of stubble with a cigarette hanging from his lips. A dark blue button-up, tan pants, and dark brown boots adorned his rather lean body, except for his plump stomach that was visible through his shirt. You glanced upon the name tag that clung to his top, reading Peter B. Parker.
âWell, I see yer still on the job.â The guy named Peter commented, looking at you as you flashed him a smile and a wink from Miguel's shoulder. The male wolf whistled at the sight. âAnd a looker too-â
âPeter!â
Miguel barked, his mahogany eyes flashing red. âGive me a damn room and stop wasting my time.â
You chuckled at Miguel's evident sign of jealousy while Peter only shook his head at the hunter's sudden anger. âFine, fine, seems someone is ready to hit the hay.â Peter said, rummaging around on his desk for his desired items.
âBut just wonderinâ if it's your own head that's gettinâ the rest or yer alluding to somethinâ else.â Peter smirked, glancing over at you and then Miguel playfully. âI must warn ya, them walls in this inn ain't that solid.â The innkeeper laughed as you could feel the fuming rage radiating from Miguel's body at the innkeeper's comment. It took everything to hold back from laughing at the rather hilarious interaction.
âPeterâŠâ Miguel growled through gritted teeth, his voice full of warning. âOkay, pardon me, let me see hereâŠâ Peter said, snickering to himself while peering through another large hardback that looked similar to a registration book.
Miguel stared at Peter as he located a room for the two of you in his ledger, never in the hunter's entire life did he wish to leave a conversation.
After a while of looking in silence, a disappointed, shoot dang, was muttered by Peter. He shook his head, looking up at Miguel. âThere's only one room left.â He said, looking over at you and then at the hunter.
âAnd it's a singles.â
âMierda.â Miguel cursed under his breath, looking at you and then at Peter. He was certain that spending a night with you in an enclosed bedroom would lead to nothing but disaster.
One that would only lead in himself and you tangled up in the sheets and experiencing another moment of unashamed passion.
âWhy the hell is there only one!?â Miguel inquired in irritation causing the innkeeper to chuckle, raising his hands in defense. âNo need to yell at me. I'm just doinâ my job.â He said. âBut a few days ago, gold was found along the bank, folks been cominâ from all âround to try and get some.â He explained, causing another curse to leave the hunter's lips.
You sighed, glancing over at Miguel. âTold ya, we shouldn't have come here.â You added as Peter looked up at you. âActually, every inn is real full in Roca Roja, due to the gold strike and everythang.â Peter said, picking up a quill and dipping it into the bottle of ink. âBut gotta love it, has my business boominâ at the moment.â He chuckled, glancing up at the hunter and you.
âSoâŠYou stayinâ?â He asked, his amber orbs mainly on Miguel, awaiting his response.
The hunter sighed, seeming like he'd hit a trail's end.
He knew Xina would need time to recoverâher injury wasn't major compared to what it could have been, but his stallion being on her hooves would only worsen it.
Xina resting up would do her some good.
Taking Peter's word that the inns were all full, Miguel would hate to try his luck and spend the night roaming all of Roca Roja, pushing Xina and hearing more of your yapping, just to end up roomless.
At least here, he wouldn't have to payâŠ
âFine.â Miguel growled, watching a beaming smile spread across the smoking innkeeper. âThat's the spirit. Here ya be well takinâ care of.â Peter promised, jotting down the hunter's name under a room and handing him the key.
Miguel tucked the brass key into the pocket of his black durst coat. âAnd Peter, ânother request.â The hunter added, suddenly dropping a wad of cash upon the counter, the sight surprising both Peter and you. âI know ya have connections, so find Xina a good doctor and tend to her real nice.â Miguel ordered.
The brown-haired male nodded, tucking the cash into his pocket and walking around the counter. âOf course, I love nothing more than to help my buddy.â He chuckled, thanking Miguel and you for staying at his inn with a pat on the hunter's back and a tip of his hat in your direction before he left to fulfill Miguel's requests.
The hunter heaved a sigh, standing alone with you in the lobby, who was still slung over his shoulder like a sack of flour. He casted you a glance, already feeling a stir inside of him at the mere thought of seclusion with you, and he hated every bit of itâŠ
He already had a feeling that disaster was impendingâone he wouldn't be able to stop no matter how hard he triedâŠ
âYer jokinâ, right?â
You asked from your curled position upon the singular bed in your shared room. It wasn't the fact that Miguel had insisted on sleeping in a mere lounge chair across the room that led to such an inquiry; it was the fact of how the hunter believed you'd get any sleep with your hands and legs tightly bound together by rope.
Your eyes were trained on his seated form upon the aged lounge chair of the room, his massive legs spread, and his body dressed only in his black wide-brimmed hat, black button-up top, pants, and boots. His durst coat hung on the back of the raw umber cushion while his mahogany eyes stared back at your restrained being.
He lit what felt like his fourth cigarette since the two of you entered, placing the tobacco between his lips and taking a deep inhale before releasing the smoke through his nose.
He remained silent at your question, simply keeping his eyes on you like a guard dog.
It was quite unnervingâŠ
âHey Miguel! You there, or are ya lost in the tumbleweeds!?â You shouted at him in annoyance while wiggling upon the bed like a fish out of water.
âWhat is it?â He said, finally acknowledging you with his words rather than his piercing gaze. You sighed, looking over at him through your long eyelashes and putting on your most pitiful expression. âOh whyâŠt-this rope is real tight, you see. I-I can't even feel my limbs.â You uttered, laying on your side with a pout. âCan't you maybeâŠloosen them a tad bit?â You genuinely asked because upon bounding you, Miguel had fastened the ropes so taut that it was practically etching an imprint into your skin and cutting off blood circulation.
âNayâŠâ Miguel simply stated, taking another puff from his cigarette. At his denial, you growled in frustration. âWhy, at least stop your damn smokin'. You're makinâ it hard to breathe in this already dusty inn.â You complained, burying your face into the beige blankets in irritation.
But if only you knew how much Miguel was holding on by a thread.
Upon entering the shared bedroom, he instantly felt itâŠ
The longing.Â
The arousal.
He never gave a damn about things like thatâtoo busy with his bounty job to care. But ever since you've shown your face and made an appearance as a new fugitive, he began to desire itâŠ
You were always on his mind, even during the times you went into hiding, and he was tracking someone new.
He craved you,
needed you.
Now you were laying upon a bed, bound tightly like a pig being served to him on a platter, and it was taking every fiber of his being to stay rooted in his seat.
Miguel's eyes traced your body, taking in your fallen hat and unkempt hair upon the bed, hands bound behind your back along with your ankles secured tightly together. Your clothes hugged your figure even more than they did before, the sight only leaving Miguel clawing at the armrests of his seat.
He took another huge inhale, watching his cigarette slowly losing its life because of his need for solace when your voice filled the room again. âHunter, can I ask ya a question?â
âI'd rather you not.â He hastily responded in his dead tone, knowing any signs of flirtation or seduction would have him out of his chair in a blink of an eye.
You rolled your eyes at his words. âCome on, now. I can't sleep; you âparrently not going to either, so⊠let's talk.â You chuckled, looking over at the bounty hunter from your restrained position.
âSince my days of freedom are numbered. Might as wellâŠâ You added, causing Miguel to sigh, your words secretly tugging at him. He took his dying cigarette into his gloved fingers, snuffing it out in a nearby tray. âSpeak then, but say anythinâ improper, I won't hesitate to put ya to sleep myself.â He threatened, but you couldn't help but have your head go straight into the gutter.
âPut me to sleep, ya sayâŠ?â You smirked, biting your lip at the thought of having some other type of restless fun with the hunter. Miguel scowled at your suggestive tone, anger the only thing keeping his arousal at bay. âYou know what I mean; now either ask yer question or shut yer mouth and sleep.â
You rolled your eyes, taking in the hunter's booted foot constantly bouncing against the wooden floorboards and the sight of him lighting yet another cigarette. âAre ya stressed or somethinâ?â You asked, watching his chest greatly rise due to his massive inhale of the cigaretteâhis pecs and abdominal muscles becoming accentuated under his shirt.
âYou can say that.â He replied, avoiding your eyes to look out the window behind you. âWell, then let's talk 'bout it. What's yer problem?â You inquired with a grin. âWhat's got ya so antsy that yer glued to that pack of cigarettes?â
Miguel glanced at you, mahogany eyes narrowing in thought of if he should speak about his âproblemâ or not, soon deciding the latter. âNone of your darn business.â
You snickered, expecting him to remain secretive. âDamnâŠmust be real bad.â You assumed, glancing over at him and making eye contact, causing the hunter to hastily look away, a grunt of irritation passing in response.
Miguel was obviously avoiding your gaze, and you couldn't help but find the large male's attempts rather adorable. You grinned, turning your eyes up to the ceiling, allowing a pleasant silence to fill the room, except for the rhythmic bounce of Miguel's sturdy black boot upon the floorboards. You deeply inhaled, taking in a big whiff of the hunter's cigarette smoke before speaking.
âI believe I know what yer âbusinessâ is, hunter...â
Miguel's heart dropped at your words, his blood running cold as every part of his body stilled. His tongue fiddled with the cigarette between his lips as he eyed your tied body, taking notice of your ability to maneuver onto your back, now gazing up at the ceiling.
He took in the sight of you, your waves of beautiful hair spread like a tapestry, creating a soft frame around your head. He clicked his tongue, taking another puff of his cigarette.Â
âThis gal is just tryinâ to get under my skin. She don't know a thang.â
Miguel thought, trying to keep a level head. âVaquera, you don't know what yer talkinâ âbout,â he said dismissively, leaning back in his chair and taking his cigarette into his two fingers, exhaling the smoke through his lips.
You hummed, his avoidance only making you want to poke the bear further. âOh, I believe I do,â you stated, keeping your eyes on the ceiling.Â
âOver these past couple of months, yer've been watchinâ me, as I've also been watchinâ you, hunter.â You said in a mysterious voice, Miguel's hardened face faltering at your confession.
A sly grin spread across your lips as you pressed on. âI've read and heard how the great bounty hunter captures and kills many outlawsânever taking him more than a week to complete a bounty and not given a rat's ass about any of âem.â You explained. ââEven toppinâ yer rival, the great, Jessie Owens and her gunslingers on many occasions with yer many arrests.â You chuckled tauntingly.
Miguel felt a mix of emotions, stuck between being flattered and irritated at your constant prodding. He glanced over at you, flicking the ash of his cigarette into the tray, trying to figure out what you were getting at.
The hunter hated when you screwed with his brain and made him feel like a hopeless mutt that you had wrapped around your finger.
He wanted you to get to the damn pointâŠ
âAnd what âbout it?â The hunter snarled, glaring daggers at you. You simply giggled as if you weren't being targeted by a raging bull. âBe patient, Miggy, I'm gettinâ there.â You teased, your tone of voice and nickname causing the hunterâs insides to stir.
âWhat did I tell ya âbout that name?â He spat coldly, his voice holding a tone of dominance. You only laughed, struggling over onto your side to get a better view of the hunter. âTo not call ya that, but yer should know better than anyone that I don't follow the rules.â You said, giving him a fake pout whilst laying your head upon the soft blanket, trying to find comfort despite being tightly restrained.
He scoffed, rolling his eyes at your fake pout that he couldnât help but find adorable. ââCause yer've never had proper punishment.â He bluntly stated, his cigarette smoke leaving his lips and nose to further encase the room.
You bit your lip, glancing over at the smoking Latino up and down. âAnd what punishment is proper in yer eyes, hunter?â You inquired, knowing he'd surely take the bait.
Miguel looked at you, your perfect skin, the way you bite your lip, the sight only causing his breath to catch in his throat. It didn't help how tightly your clothing hugged your body, the rope only further accentuating your figure and leaving nothing to imagination of how you looked underneath all that fabric.
He wanted nothing more than to see you in all your gloryâŠ
Your eyes darted down at an evident bulge that poked against the hunterâs black pants, the corners of your lips turning up into a devious grin. The Latino, like you anticipated, took the bait, falling right into your trap.
âA proper punishment is tossinâ ya across my lap and bruisinâ that pretty ass until ya learn to behave.â
The hunter said huskily, desire potent in his western-Latino accentuated voice; however, upon seeing your amused smirk and raised eyebrow at what he'd just confessed, he cleared his throat, shifting uncomfortably in his chair. âJustâŠgoes to show that yer parents didn't teach ya how to conduct yerself properly. Anyone would believe the same.â
âMhmâŠâ You hummed teasingly, unable to hold back from laughing. Miguel scowled at you, hating how you always seemed to make him feel like a schoolboy time and time again. His lust and arousal blinding him so greatly that heâll forget everythingâhis duties, the consequences, who you were to him.
You were a damn criminal, a dangerous one at that, with your sharp tongue and killer body that can seduce any and everyone. You did whatever it took to satisfy your own wants and desires, so why the hell was it so troubling for him to detain you?! He'd taken down and killed many outlaws, so why?
The hunterâs hands clenched tightly into fists upon the armrests, his knuckles turning white with tension under his gloves. His mahogany eyes appeared redder with his raging fury. âStop playinâ âround and get to the damn point!â He barked, taking another deep inhale of his cigarette.
You grinned at his satisfying anger, the hunter never disappointing you when it came to him showing how evidently you were pissing him off, but youâve gotten what you were seeking from himâ his previous response answering your prediction.
âFine, ya fancy meâŠÂ
Don't ya, hunter?â
Miguel's heart skipped a beat at your perfect assumption. It took everything in him to hide his emotionsâsomething he'd never had a hard time doing until now.
He scoffed, averting his gaze. âYa wish, sweetheart.â He coldly said, snuffing out his fifth cigarette into the ashtray and wetting his lips with his tongue.
You chuckled, shifting upon the bed to soothe the growing ache in your wrists due to the tight ropes. âWell, Miggy, a wish or not, you ain't answer my question.â You emphasized, watching his defined jaw clench and his black, gloved hand enter into his pants pocket once more, fishing for his box of cigarettes.
Miguel's entire body was heating up, feeling like the room was closing in on him; it was taking all of his willpower to not do something that could jeopardize his duties. But with you using that nickname he's told you countless times not to address him by, it was causing his pants to become increasingly uncomfortable around his already swelling member.
The hunter's bushy eyebrows tightened, his mahogany cold eyes trained on you. âOutlaws and hunters âre like water and oilâwe don't mix, it's why we're enemies for goodness sake.â He sternly said, lighting a match to ignite his sixth cigarette. He took a deep inhale of the tobacco, a sigh of contentment passing his lips. âAnd I've told ya, I don't experience such feelinâ for people, and definitely not ya.â
âBut yet, ya do.â
His head instantly snapped over to you, finding your gaze already on him with a grin upon your cherry lips. âAnd âcause ya do, it's tearing ya up insideâŠÂ
Ain't it, Miguel?â
A scowl crept upon the hunter's lips, his nose scrunching up in anger at your persistence.
âWhat did she want? For me to spill my guts? To see me weak?!â
Miguel pondered, trying to discern your motive behind your pressing questions. He took another huge puff of his cigarette, trying to control himself.
âWhat game are you fuckinâ playin' at?â He growled, becoming tired of your jokes and giggles.
You laughed, giving him an innocent shoulder shrug, still bound tightly due to his handy skills. âI simply am askinâ questions like yer've allowed me to.â You said, raising an eyebrow from your laid position. âWhat? Have I struck a nerve?â
Miguel's eyes flashed red at your taunt, and before he could stop himself, he was standing up from his seat and walking over to you. âDon't play fuckinâ innocent with me, smartassâ He snarled, his large hand encasing around your throat, effortlessly pulling you up onto your knees on the bed, bringing you face-to-face with him.
A small gasp passed your lips, his grip tight around your throat more in intimidation than harm. You glared back at him due to his sudden rough action, but upon seeing he was clearly holding on by a thread, you couldn't help but give him a flirtatious smile, one that caused his rage to deepen. âWhat do ya want from me? To see me lose control? To go against my damn duties?!â The hunter shouted, his face trembling in uncontrollable anger. âWhat ya find pleasure in that? Seeing me lose my shit?â Â
âWhy, yes indeed... â
Miguel's eyes widened in disbelief at your confirmation, his anger hastily bubbling back to the surface. âWhat the fuck did ya just say?â He said through gritted teeth, his cigarette hanging dangerously low from his lips, its ash dropping close to your face.
Your eyes roamed his facial features, taking in how furious he was, but you were certain his fury wasn't solely from you.
He was frustratedâŠ
SexuallyâŠ
It was like you were a slab of meat to him and he was a starving dog. You were teasing him with your mere presence and honestlyâŠyou were enjoying it.
You could never understand why you secretly liked this hunter. Yes, he was the best of the best, and it was so fun to watch him blow his top, but it wasn't what truly led you to want to know everything about himâwhat kept you yearning for another encounter with him.
It wasn't until now that you finally discovered itâŠ
His resilience to temptation was what you adored. How fascinating it'll be if he was to experience even a taste of what he craved.
It was why you allowed him a little bit of fun during your previous interaction; but even still, he was composed, never losing himself in the moment of you down on your knees for him, granting him the relief and satisfaction he so desperately was yearning for.
But you wanted him to forget your roles of hunter and outlaw and give in to his desires.
That's what you wanted from him, needed even.
You bit your lip, looking up at him from under your eyelashes. âYa heard me, hunter. I want ya to give in to yer wants, and if that means losing controlâŠ
Then so be it...â
You smirked, watching his cold expression falter to one of surprise at your request. You grinned, never before seeing him so speechless. To entice him further, you leaned in close, your hands still bound tightly behind your back and his gloved one still around your throat, the smell of smoke and his natural musk filling your nose, only exciting you more.
âIt'll be so good, Miggy to finally let goâto crave that hunger ya have for me.â
You coaxed in a low whisper, your western accent potent in your voice. Your eyes glanced down to his lips that were pulled into its usual scowl, unable to ignore how enticing they looked.
âYou know I wonât stop you..."
Miguel groaned softly, his fingers flexing around your throat as his member twitched inside of his pants, begging him to give in to your wordsâto submit to his desires. The more you gazed up at him, saying all the right things in that sexy voice of yoursâŠ
He was tempted to give inâŠ
âDo ya even know what ya askinâ of me?â He inquired, his eyes full of lust as he removed his cigarette from his lips. You nodded, wanting so much to touch him and persuade him. He was so close to submittingâyou could feel it.
âYesâŠI want ya, Miguel OâHara. Iâve wanted ya for a long time.â You honestly said, biting your lip and looking him up and down. "Gosh, Iâve never wanted someone to fuck me so badly.â
âMierda.â He muttered under his breath, his restraint snapping at your words of desperation as he crashed his lips to yours.
Miguel devoured your mouth in an intensity heâd never felt before. His hand tugging you closer to him by your throat to keep you pressed to him, feeling the softness of your body against his firm one was enough to make him lose it. His tongue penetrated your parted lips, finally tasting you after preventing himself for so long.
It was like he was finally tasting the forbidden elixir of the Wild West. Your sweet scent and lips enveloped him and lingered like the aftertaste of a smuggled bottle of top-shelf whiskey, each moment a clandestine sip that descended him more into the depths of no return.
You moaned softly into his mouth, his hunger being what youâve wanted for so long. His dominance and lust grew with each interlock of your lips, and when he finally parted, you realized how breathless and aroused you were.
Miguel gazed down at you, breathing heavily while taking in your flushed cheeks and glazed eyes. Every time he saw you, you seemed to become even more breathtaking than before.
You looked back at him, panting and feeling a throbbing in your lower belly that longed to be satisfied. Now that youâve gotten a taste of the bounty hunter, he was like a drugâhis roughness and hunger turning you on more than anyone ever had in your entire life.
You wanted so much to touch him, to caress his sharp jawline decorated with a hint of stubble and feel how painfully hard his member was, but you were still, sadly, restrainedâhands bound behind your back with your ankles tied together as well. Miguel ensured you wouldnât be escaping him tonight upon entering your given room at the inn, but you wished for nothing more than to be released.
Currently, you had no desire to leaveâŠ
âMiguelâŠunbind me.â You requested a little desperately through ragged breaths, causing the hunter to chuckle. âUntie ya? That what ya want?â He inquired with a grin, bringing his cigarette to his lips to take another puff, exhaling the smoke. You nodded, wanting nothing more than to be free, so you could touch him in return.
The hunter saw the eagerness in your expression, bringing a smirk to his lips. He couldnât help but feel satisfied at finally having power over you for once; it was honestly, a good feeling.
He held his cigarette between his lips, his gloved hand slipping into his pocket to pull out his steel pocket knife, effortlessly cutting through the thick rope that covered your wrists and ankles.
You sighed in relief at the sound of snips, along with subtle fibers separating, soon feeling yourself being freed. Usually, youâd instantly feel the desire to escape, to run for the heels with a huge grin upon your cherry lips at being able to outwit the hunter once moreâŠ
But not this timeâŠ
Your hands found his waist, caressing his taut skin through the fabric of his black collared top. âI knew ya could have fun.â You teased, bringing a rare smile to the hunterâs lips. He took your face in his hand, bringing you closer to him once more.
âThen saddle up, Muñeca. Iâm just getting started.â He whispered, inhaling his cigarette once more before pressing his lips to yours, releasing the smoke into your mouth with each kiss.
The sharp, lingering bitterness of the smoke mingling with each exhale, accompanied by the combination of his sweet lips, created the perfect harmony. Each kiss left you breathless and lusting for him even more.
Miguel groaned softly, his thick gloved fingers moving from your neck to begin unbuttoning your dark blue and brown fringe top, revealing your gorgeous skin and assets that had been teasing him from the first time heâd encountered you.
Leaving your mouth, he trailed his lips along your throat, kissing the sensitive spots and not hesitating to push the dark blue top from your body, exposing your bare chest and stomach to him.
Your eyes fluttered at his kisses as you took the lit cigarette from his fingers, taking a drag and relishing in the serene tingles that filled your head along with Miguelâs kisses, sucks, and nibbles along your skin. You felt Miguel smirk at your action, pressing a final kiss to your collarbone before pulling away.
The sight of you gazing up at him, that playful smile on your lips as you smoked from his cigarette had to be the sexiest thing heâd ever seenâhis cock throbbing in his pants to be released.
âVas a ser la muerte de mĂ.â He muttered, his mahogany eyes dark with lust, as they trailed your body. His face of aweâenough to show how he was feeling.
You chuckled at his expression. âIâll take it you like what you see?â You teased, bringing a toothy grin to the hunterâs lips. âIâll be lyinâ if I said I didn't.â He chuckled, his large gloved hands cupping your perky breasts in his massive palmsâthe pair feeling like soft pillows in his hands.
He savored the soft moans that escaped your pretty mouth, capturing each whimper with a peck to your lips, unable to resist how addicting it was to kiss you.
You were aware that the hunter had experience, but it felt like he knew your body like the back of his hand. His massive palms kneaded your supple flesh, switching between soft and rough squeezes, while his fingers flicked and pinched your hardened pebbles.
In your fingers, you held your shared cigarette, eyes half-hooded. With every maneuver of his hands along your chest, your juices spilled down your thighs. âYa like that?â He asked with a smirk, gripping your breasts tightly, making you cry out. âMhm, Yes! Just like that,â you gasped, chest heaving with the growing pleasure.
Miguel growled at your words of satisfaction, feeling the need to be released from his clothesâhis cock painfully hard inside his pants. âI have something better for ya,â he said, pulling away to remove his black wide-brimmed hat, tossing it across the room, and tugging his shirt over his head.
You bit your lip, your core pulsating at the mere sight of his defined chest. His chiseled pecs, bulging biceps, and toned abs were covered with dark brown hair, each muscle completely taut from his years of being a bounty hunter. Along his torso were faint scars and beauty marks that only emphasized his attractiveness. âNot bad, hunter,â you laughed, giving his body a once-over. Your gaze followed the happy trail of coarse hair that descended from his navel to dip under his pants towards the massive bulge that was begging to be freed from its confines. At the sight, memories of your previous encounter with him filled your mind, causing your juices to further coat your thighs and drip down your legs.
Miguel smiled, savoring the way you were looking him up and down, appreciating his body. He couldnât remember the last time he had experienced this, but it felt good to be admired, especially by you. He noticed your eyes focused on his crotch, prompting a chuckle from him. âDonât be scared, ya seen it before,â he said tauntingly, making you roll your eyes but unable to hide your small grin.
You crawled towards him, placing the cigarette into your mouth and beginning to unbuckle his belt, maintaining eye contact. âI must say, hunter, Iâve missed this,â you snickered, pulling his pants down to release what youâve desired since your previous encounter.
The sight still left you speechlessâŠ
His fully erect, tanned member was presented in front of you, slightly darker than the olive skin tone of his body. A bush of dark brown coarse hair sat atop his veiny shaft, his tip a Tuscan red, with a protruding vein running along the underside that led to a pair of large, heavy balls. The hunter was definitely above average, being very girthy and long as well. You bit your lip, feeling your arousal soaking through your pants, sullying the dark blue fabric.
Miguel completely adored that look of awe upon your sexy face, leaning down to kiss along your neck while lifting you slightly to lay you down upon the bed.
His teeth and lips sucked marks along your skin that you gladly accepted whilst his heavy shaft rested against your stomach, causing your belly to flutter, and a whimper to escape your lips. âGosh, I-I canât wait any more,â you whined, wanting to feel him inside of you, the throbbing of your empty core becoming painful.
Your desperation was music to Miguelâs ears, his body needing you as well. âThen, letâs not wait 'round no more, Cariño.â He effortlessly whipped you around to lay you on all fours upon the bedâyour forearms and knees holding your body up as your clothed rear end was thrust into the air, left completely vulnerable to him.
Miguel took in your gorgeous backside, an evident trail of your arousal sprouting down your pants like the trails of a passing storm, natureâs delicate brushstrokes down the dark blue fabric that covered your bottom, the sight making his cock twitch.
He licked his lips, reaching over to remove the lit cigarette from your cherry lips to place it in his, inhaling it as he ran his large hand along your clothed bottom. Your eyes fluttered, the sensations seeming to be heightened due to your inability to see him. The hunter groaned, giving your cheeks a rough squeeze, releasing a moan from your throat.
Fuck, ya perfect,â he whispered, feeling his gloved fingers roam along your clothed, drenched folds, adding slight pressure that caused you to further soil your pantsâyour essence soaking the fabric even more, and revealing the evident outline of your soppy pussy underneath. Miguel groaned, roaming his hands to squeeze your bare hips and caress your rear, soon returning back to where you wanted him the most.
You whimpered softly, savoring how good he was making you feel until the loud sound of a rip filled the room, causing your eyes to snap open.
A rush of air suddenly made contact with your rear end and throbbing pussy as you looked over your shoulder to see that Miguel had ripped your pants openâgranting him a clear view of your heavily dripping core.
You were conflicted, not knowing whether to be angry or even more aroused; however, you werenât able to respond as the hunter didnât hesitate to grind his massive length along your dripping foldsâthe wet sound filling the walls. âO-oh fuck,â you moaned, arching your back and moving in sync with him.
Miguel couldnât get over how wet you were, his thick cock gliding through your folds, testing your saturation. âHmmâŠready?â he asked in a small growl.
You were only able to muster a broken, "Mhm," in response before feeling his massive tip begin to seep inside of your soaking entrance.
A drawn-out moan passed both of your lips, his gloved hand clenching the remnants of your pants that enclosed around your waist, holding you during his insertion. Once he bottomed-out, it took everything in him to not lose himself in how much your pussy was gripping him, the urge to thrust into you with total abandon being very enticing.
Your fingers gripped the beige blankets tightly, eyes rolled into your skull at how much he was blissfully stretching you. It instantly made your mind go blank.
The pleasure only heightened with his slow slide out and breathtaking slam of his cock back in, releasing a loud mewl to erupt from your throat. With each drag of his member inside your dripping entrance, his force and speed increased until he was brutally fucking you like a rabid animal.
Miguel couldnât help himself; he tried so hard to take it slow, to not harm you like he feared this whole time, but you were too perfect, he swore you were.
You took him so well, too well, that he became lost in the pleasure. Your exquisite pussy gripped his cock just right with each thrust, his hips smacking loudly against your rear.
The room was filled with the echoing of slapping wet flesh, high-pitched moans, deep grunts, and the loud creaking of the bed.
The scent of sex and smoke was potent as Miguel occasionally took puffs of his cigarette. You didnât even notice the pleasurable and painful tears streaming down your face at the sheer intensity of his paceâswitching constantly from erratic and rough to slow and deep.
The ashes from his cigarette occasionally dropped onto your lower back, burning your skin and sending a sting throughout your entire body. The pain only deepening the extreme sensations coursing through your being. Your brain was scrambled, your body trembling, and already releasing for the second time under his influence.
Miguel groaned, brushing your hair from your shoulder to nuzzle into your neck, inhaling your sweet, natural scent, his pace never ceasing. âFuck, bebĂ©, you feel so good. Mierda.â He moaned into your ear, his cigarette hanging from his lips, as his praises caused the familiar knots to form in your stomach again.
It seemed Miguel had found the weakness to your witty tongue. With his pace, you couldnât form a wordâwhimpers, whines, shrieks, and the occasional cries of his name were the only sounds you could muster.
With any other man, you would have felt pathetic, but with him, youâve never felt so alive.
With a gasp, Miguel pulled out, flipping you to lie on your back. Your dazed eyes blinked, trying to settle your blurry vision on him.
The hunter gazed down at you, your rosy tear-stained cheeks, messy hair, hickey-filled neck, dripping pussy only arousing him once more. He inhaled the rest of his cigarette, pinching the end to snuff the flame before kissing you, his cock entering your eager hole once more.
You moaned into his mouth, the smoky taste, and his lips only intensifying the burning tension in the pit of your stomach. His thrusts were slow and deep while his mouth ravaged yours, exchanging the smoke of his cigarette with you with each interlock of your lips.
Miguel was feeling himself getting terribly close, his balls becoming painfully tight, every clench of your pussy leaving him twitching; but he needed another orgasm from you.
He groaned into your mouth, your kiss becoming more messy. Saliva dripped from your chins whilst your tongues entwined with each hungry mesh of your lips.
With each kiss, Miguel slowly increased his paceâhis coarse hair grinding into your swollen clit, heavy balls smacking into your rear along with his gloved hands gripping your hips, angling himself as he pulled you against him in a frenzy.
Your eyes rolled, moans constantly becoming stuck in your throat with each of his deep thrusts. His member constantly attacked your G-spot, causing you to become a moaning, trembling mess underneath him.
Abruptly, your orgasm crashed into you like a stampede. You cried out Miguelâs name through your climax, spraying your juices in thick spurts, haphazardly, into the air, coating your stomach, thighs, and Miguelâs abs and cock with your essence. The loud sounds of dripping and squelching filled the room upon your orgasm.
At your release, your pussy clutched Miguelâs cock tightly, a blissful rush of tingles coming over him. His thrusts became sporadic and inept following you in your climax.
He hastily pulled out, shooting his creamy, white load upon your stomach with a guttural groan, the veins upon his lower belly and thighs pulsated, his mahogany eyes closed whilst breathless grunts passed his parted lips with each release of his essence.
Your eyes fluttered at the warm sensation as you tried to catch your breath and regain your thoughts and strength after the intense moment, but it was no useâŠ
Miguel had fucked you senselessly.
But it was so worth it.
Youâve gotten what you wantedâthe hunter to give in to his desires, to grant you the fucking of a lifetime, and heâd done so and even more.
Miguel climbed on next to you, the bed creaking under his heavy weight as he laid down beside you. His burly arms wrapped around your frail body, pulling you gently to his chest. He found your pants and small tremors utterly adorable as he kissed your bare shoulder. You blinked back the dizziness from your previous encounter, glancing over your shoulder at the hunter to find something you couldnât believeâŠ
You found love in his eyesâŠ
âYou okay?â He asked in his usual gruff voice, stroking his thumb across your rosy, tear-stained cheeks, his mahogany eyes roaming your face with a trace of concern. You scoffed at his expression. âOf course.â You chuckled, noticing that he wasnât at all breathless and tired as you wereâsimply lying upon the bed like the two of you werenât just fucking like two animals in heat.
âDid ya enjoy yourself?â You inquired, turning to face him, but with some struggleâyour body already feeling sore. He placed a hand on your hip, caressing you with a smile. âOf course, what was not to love?â He genuinely said, making you raise an eyebrow at the flattery. âOh really now, is the infamous bounty hunter complimenting me?â You asked teasingly, finding his damp coffee-brown curls clinging to his sweaty forehead rather cute.
At your playful remark, hus grin broadened on his tanned face. âYou can keep a secret, canât ya, sweetheart?â He smirked, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear.
Miguel never felt his heart swell so much. He didnât know what he was feeling, but he didnât want it to ever stop.
You laughed, gazing up at him. âOf courseâŠAt a price.â Miguel snickered, anticipating the response, but it still piqued the hunterâs interest. âAnd whatâs that, miel?â
âDonât turn me in.â
At your words, meant as a joke, Miguelâs heartfelt smile instantly dropped, bringing him back to the reality of the West.
You were an outlawâŠÂ
He was a bounty hunterâŠÂ
Bounty hunters and outlaws didnât mixâŠÂ
Heâs supposed to take you inâŠ
âMierda.â He sighed, every happy emotion he felt draining from his face to be replaced with his usual cold expression of a scowl and dead mahogany eyes.
âMiggy?â You called out to him, your eyebrows furrowed. âAre ya okay?â You inquired, your turn now to ask about his well-being, but it was met with silence.
Miguel had never felt more disheartened and conflicted. He adored his job as a bounty hunter, the thrill of the hunt and the ability to use his exceptional skills to track down any criminal for a hefty amount of gold and cash, but you made him question everythingâŠ
Itâll be hypocritical of him to chase down outlaws like a damn dog, arrest them or either kill them depending on their crimes, and do neither to you.
You were a criminal, youâve robbed and stole from many, and have taken a few heads with you along the way.
But fuckâŠ
He couldnât bring himself to hurt you or arrest you.
So heâd returned back to the question once more.
What should be done with you
He turned over to look at you, taking in your troubled eyes that gazed back at him. His hardened expression softened at your face that showed genuine interest in him in return.
Or were you playing him once moreâŠ
The hunter reached out, cupping your cheek in his large gloved one, the action instantly making your heart warm. You leaned into his palm, eyes trained on him. âYa thinkinâ again. Ainât ya?â You asked, heaving a sigh.
Miguel stroked your face with his thumb, relishing in how soft your skin was. âHow can I not? This is goinâ against everythang I stand for.â He uttered, but unable to pull his hand away, and neither did you wish him to.
Even though you were used to the seduction of many menâonly sleeping with most of them for survival or for a means to escape, but nowâŠ
You desired the hunter, despite him being your enemy.
Heâd killed and arrested many people like youïżœïżœ did it without a blink of an eye, but instead of feeling fearful of that, it oddly, only made you want him more.
You placed a hand on his chest, delicately tracing patterns along the curves of his chiseled and ruggedly hairy pecs, a comforting silence enveloping both of you. Miguelâs deep sigh of contentment escaped his lips as his large hand moved from your face to tenderly stroke your lower back, pulling you closer to him.
âYer never answered my question.â Your western accent filled the room once more, looking up at him. Miguel's bushy eyebrows furrowed, his mind a little foggy due to your mere closeness and touch. âWhat question?â He asked, glancing down at you, his confusion making you giggle. âGosh, how did I remember and not ya?â You playfully teased, believing heâd previously scrambled your brain to no return, instead, it seemed youâve done so to the hunter.
The corners of his tightly drawn lips twitched to a smirk. âI was justâŠlost in the moment.â Miguel replied. âBut whatâs the question I didnât answer?â
âIf ya fancy me or not.â You stated, the hunterâs heart jumping at the reappearance of the question. He grunted, his burly arm enclosing around your waist possessively, pressing his firm body against your soft, supple one. âI shouldnât...â He whispered with a heavy sigh, feeling with each passing second, he was doing what heâd told himself heâd never do.
LoveâŠÂ
FeelâŠ
âBut ya do.â You retorted once more, cupping his face. âSo whatcha gonna do âbout it?â You asked playfully with a grin.
That smileâthat smile was everything to the hunter and always made his heart flutter and his stomach to stir. âThatâs what Iâm debatinâ in my head, Cariño.â The Latino sighed. âFor the first time, in a long time, I donât know what the hell to do.â A troubled expression crossed the hunterâs face, making you feel sorry for himâyouâve never seen him so conflicted.
"What's yer head sayin'?" You asked, already knowing the answer. "To take yer fine ass in," he replied in a gruff voice, tightening his grip around you, as if he never could let you go.
You hummed, feeling him rest his chin upon your head, another sigh passing his lips. "And how 'bout this?" You asked next, placing a hand over his right pec, where his heart resided.
"What's that cold heart of yer's tellinâ ya?"
Miguel's mahogany eyes snapped down at you, your inquiries seeming to punch him in the gut each time. He kept your gaze, staring into your intrigued orbs.
The hunter wet his lips before cupping your chin between his gloved fingers, leaning close to you, his breath mingling with yours. His eyes roamed your face before allowing his heart to speak the words he'd been holding in for so long.
"To make ya mine."
Miguel said, his mahogany eyes never leaving yours. "I wanna take care of ya, not allow ya to have to steal another coin in yer entire life," the hunter uttered, his fingers caressing your chin and jaw. "I wanna protect ya, love ya, ride alongside ya in the desertânot as enemies with an intent to capture yaâŠ,Â
But as loversâŠ"
You stared back at the infamous and cold bounty hunter, not quite believing the confession pouring from his lips.
In all your life of being an outlaw and criminal, you've had moments where you've tangled in the sheets with a few individuals, them speaking similar things as the hunter did, but you never felt the same. Simply flashing them a grin, and upon them falling asleep, hastily finding the nearest exit and riding off into the sunset. However, right now...
You didn't want to run.
"Ya sure?" You asked with a smirk. "I'm quite the handful." You said, tucking a curl of his damp coffee brown hair behind his ear. Your words caused a deep rumble of laughter to erupt from the hunter, one that surprised him. His mahogany eyes that usually held death and coldness in them, now were full of love and affection.
"I reckon I've always been fond of a good challenge." The hunter said, pressing his lips to the top of your head, his kisses always bringing a wave of warmth to spread throughout your body. "I figured as much." You giggled, meeting his loving gaze. "But let me let ya in on a 'lil secret." You grinned, beckoning him closer with a finger. Miguel raised an eyebrow, a small smile upon his lips as he leaned in, awaiting your next words.
"I've always had a soft spot for ya, hunter."
You said in a low whisper, the Latino swiftly pulling away in shock, meeting your eyes to find any sign of deceit, but either you were playing him again, or you were genuine. Either way, his heart swelled at your confession.
"SoâŠwhatcha tryin' to do, vaquera?" He asked, his duties, reputation, or him being a hypocrite vanishing to the back of his head. Your confession tugged at him more than he'd expected. It was something he'd always secretly wanted, needed evenâfor his oppressed affections and missed arrests to not have been for nothing.
That after all this time of exchanging bullets and cutthroat words, you actually felt the sameâŠ
The hunter still couldn't wrap his head around the fact you fancied him in return, but he was certain he was willing to do anything for you in this moment.
You flashed him a grin, knowing his duties as a bounty hunter were tied to his very soul, unable to separate from him as your troublesome nature was with yours. "Then how 'bout we try this whole⊠secret lovers thing, eh?" You proposed, caressing the side of his thick neck and along his broad shoulder.
Miguel hummed at your touch, deep down liking the idea very much. He wanted nothing more than to experience moments with you that didn't end with guns being drawn. "I'll be willin' to give it a go." The hunter replied, not knowing how much his agreement made your heart soar.
You hastily pressed your lips to his, capturing him in a passionate kiss. Miguel smiled, kissing you back with much fervor and pulling you on top of him. His hands caressed your soft flesh while you straddled his hips. Your kiss swiftly became more heated and intense as a small groan escaped the hunter's lips, soon feeling something hard brushing against your thigh.
You parted from him with a laugh, glancing down to find he was heavily aroused once more before meeting his eyes. "Ya want me again, hunter?" You asked in a sultry voice, causing a huge grin to spread across his lips, a sight still so foreign from his usual deep scowl.
"AlwaysâŠ"
He uttered, cupping the back of your neck and pulling you into a long searing kiss. Your evident adoration for each other felt in each deep interlock of your lips.
And in that moment, the hunter knew he loved you, as you knew you loved him in returnâŠ
âYa sure itâs him?â
The rough western accent of a woman uttered through the quiet of the night, the breeze brushing along her ebony skin and running through her thick, black curls.
âAbsolutely, without a shadow of a doubt,â the older male replied. âYeah, he was lookinâ real close with that outlaw back at the saloon, a lilâ too close if ya know what I mean,â the other added, causing a growl to escape the womanâs crimson lips.
âWhat the fuck are you doinâ Miguel?â
She hissed under her breath, her gloved thumb spinning the caliber of her pistol in thought.
âSoâŠJessicaâŠwhatâs the plan?
We gettinâ rid of him?â
âNayâŠâ Jessica Owens replied, whipping around to look at the two gunslingers. Her cold amber eyes bore into them through her black eyeglasses, and the two straightened up under their leader's harsh gaze.
âI wanna see this for myselfâŠâ

I can't stress enough how much I love the map design in Veilguard. It feels a bit like a return to Origins. The maps are larger in scope, but not as overly as in Inquisition. They're more compact. The maps in Inquisition are beautiful to look at, and I like all the little details scattered around, but at the same time, there's also a lot of empty space, sometimes with difficult terrain, and little to do but gather various collectibles and some fetch quests when you're lucky. There are some interesting landmarks here and there, but they're significantly less tightly packed. It's really a bit hard to get to truly know them as a result.
Part of what I've always found fun in video games like Dragon Age (as in, big RPGs) is getting familiar with places. Having good reasons to visit the same area multiple times and getting to know where everything is located, like how to get to a specific merchant or where to find certain NPCs, recognize landmarks, and know that I need to cross a bridge and then follow a straight line to get to the tavern, and be able to do that without having to excessively check the map or follow the quest marker the whole time.
I feel like a lot of Inquisition's maps, outside the very few hubs we have, are mostly Terrain(TM). Not only that. Often it is INFURIATING Terrain. I've played it a lot already, yet I still have trouble navigating the red lyrium quarry in Emprise du Lion, or the Oasis in general, certain areas in Hinterlands, Storm Coast, all the damn similar-looking tunnels in Western Approach, etc. (Even though I'm usually pretty good at getting places both in games and irl.) As gorgeous as those maps are, it can be so frustrating to try to reach a place, while there's always some goddamn mountain in the way, so much ground to cover, such long distances to run, especially when you happen to take a wrong turn, and the walkable areas are not even marked on the map. DAII, on the other hand, was sort of an opposite extreme, where I (personally!) felt restricted to the same few small places too much, and it felt a bit claustrophobic to me (while it had its reasons and also advantages, I know).
I like that in Veilguard, I can travel to various places that each has a completely different flavour, and the maps are decently sized, enough to feel like an immersive world, but at the same time, after playing enough, I've become sufficiently familiar with each map, because each part of every map is unique and easily recognizable. I mean, I'm still discovering new things on those maps, of course. They're still large enough, so I don't know them like the back of my hand yet, and there are still nooks and crannies for me to explore. But when I want to go to Café Pietra in Treviso, or the Drowned District, or the Cobbled Swan in Dock Town, or the Chantry, or my favourite tree in Arlathan, or the Cauldron in Hossberg Wetlands, or that messed up ship that's lifted above the water by the blight tendrils that all the companions have something to say about, and so on, I know how to get there without using a map or fast travel at this point, because the places have a lot of character, there are landmarks everywhere, and things are more tightly packed, without large, empty, disorienting spaces in between. And that's something I love in an RPG.
Not to even mention that Veilguard deliberately sends you to various places on those maps through quests, so that even if you don't like running around just for the sole purpose of removing the fog of war, you'll eventually uncover most of them just by questing. Each map has a purpose. Each map has some important quests leading to it. At the same time, they are also filled with other interesting things to find, like puzzles, memories, secrets, unmarked tasks, to maintain a sense of wonder. (And, of course, NPCs with a lot of ambient dialogue! But that'd be a whole another post.) It's also a good thing that they built in a mechanism that keeps you from getting overwhelmed (unlike Hinterlands in Inquisition where nobody knew when to quit the massive area upon the first playthrough), because some areas, like in the Arlathan Forest or Hossberg Wetlands, unlock and expand gradually as you progress the game. The companions also, besides having party banter, make environmental comments here and there, which also makes exploring fun. It is a huge difference and improvement in comparison with Inquisition where you don't even have to go to some maps, like Hissing Wastes or the Oasis, because they're mostly filler with a little bit of lore, and you can skip almost the entirety of Exalted Plains or Emerald Graves, while the massive maps are often filled with collectibles, and many small, inconsequential fetch quests and such that you start by picking up a written note somewhere. I like Inquisition, but I can't deny that about 80% of my completionist playthroughs is just doing chores, collecting landmarks, collecting bottles, collecting shards, collecting Grey Warden insignia, collecting books, killing people for Dorian, killing people for Cassandra (I would always kill people for Cassandra.), breaking many red lyrium crystals for Varric, activating relics for Solas, closing a million rifts, repeatedly collecting tons of resources for potions and various NPCs that only want more right afterwards, taking an item or a piece of news from point A to point B for no reason... you get the idea. Doing all that, I very much miss Origins' format - areas that are more contained and filled more meaningfully.
Veilguard is thankfully not made the way Inquisition is. The maps are, in my opinion, while decently sized, not only far more manageable, better designed and utilized, much less frustrating to navigate, with new interesting mechanics on top of it, but there's also a lot of quality of life improvements that go with it. Like the fact that you can see when a new quest pops up in any of the areas on the world map without having to visit them and remove the fog of war, so you don't have to be afraid of missing things. Pointing at any of the places on the world map shows us a list of quests that are in progress and a notification when there's something new to do. We no longer have much in the way of vast empty patches of land to run through for minutes just to find something, anything, to do there. The hubs, like Treviso and Dock Town, are just so alive in comparison with, say, Val Royeaux in Inquisition, which is absolutely beautiful, but sadly also somehow sterile, and has barely anything for us to do. (Yet Val Royeaux is at least a place we have reasons to visit more than once and get to know a little.) Treviso and Dock Town truly feel like living, breathing, inhabited hubs, with so much to see, and I love them both so much. I enjoy the detail, the ambient dialogue of the NPCs, etc. I know not all the areas got the same love. I would definitely prefer for Rivain to give us an actual town, with a cool bazaar, as well, for example, but alas.
There is one complaint I have about the maps, and that is the save stations. I don't really mind them for fast travelling and changing the party, even if I'd prefer something more immersive, but I particularly don't like how the game returns me there upon loading a save. I was so confused when that happened for the first time during my first playthrough. I'm not sure why that's a thing.
Wait, two things. I've never been a huge fan of respawning enemies. I understand that they did not want to leave the areas forever empty and devoid of activity after we first run through, and it's good they try to make the enemy encounters in those spots varied, at least. The enemies also don't respawn again as long as you stay on the same map. But after many trips through, it eventually becomes a bit of an annoyance anyway. On the other hand, the combat is a lot of fun, and in case you aren't in the mood for it, you can also easily just run past those spots, because the enemies don't give much of a chase. Again, that is still a significant improvement in comparison with Inquisition, where enemies basically respawn the moment you turn around on the spot, at an absolutely aggravating, ridiculous rate, and trying to escape a combat encounter is like pulling teeth, while constantly doing the combat to get rid of the pests feels about the same.
Either way, I think Veilguard, as far as level design goes, is a solid return to Origins in the way how the maps are more contained, more compact, and filled more meaningfully. Of course, Veilguard expanded on that in size and the ways you can explore, improved upon a lot of things, especially in comparison with its direct predecessor, and moving around feels a lot better than in all the previous games, but I think that in some aspects, as explained above, it is actually quite similar to Origins' maps, and I love it.
#Dragon Age#Dragon Age: The Veilguard#DATV#Veilguard#I had this post scheduled for today for a while#feels somehow funnier to post it right now though#this is a reminder that I will keep being loud and annoying about liking this game

Inuoka and lev will both unironically do Fortnite dances during practice
Shibayama totally has a bunch of allergies and is a picky eater
Inuoka and lev are basically just human garbage disposals (will eat ANYTHING)
Lev canât swim
Biblically accurate lev Haiba (gets the worlds WORST sunburns every time he goes outside)
Lev has low blood pressure and will randomly faint when standing up too fast (Kenma has the same problem but refuses to admit it)
Inuoka is one of those people who types in all caps the majority of the time. Every literature and language teacher heâs ever had has told him off for using way too many exclamation points. (He canât help it heâs just a happy little dude)
Lev texts constant updates about what heâs doing t the team group chat to the point where heâs been kicked off of it more times than he can count. (Usually for talking about taking a shit) (see Charles Boyle from B-99 for reference)
Second years:
Fukunaga and Kenma rarely have actual text conversations but theyâre constantly sending memes back and forth to each other
Tora actually has fairly curly hair and it was a borderline afro when he was in elementary school (heâs part latino in my mind argue with the wall)
Kenma listens to almost exclusively video game soundtracks (skyward sword is his favourite)
Tora totally listens to girypop rap (he is 100% a Flo milli Stan sorry)
Tora has asked kai for advice on how to talk to girls SEVERAL times and the information that you should just talk to them like theyâre normal people blows his mind every time (how does kai do it? Is he a witch? A demon?
Fukunaga owns at least 3 cats and they all have weird names (inspired by my friend whoâs catâs name is Fax Machine)
Kenma is the worldâs driest texter (canon actually)
Also fukunaga uses :3 constantly
Fukunaga and kenma constantly bully Tora about his obsession with looksmaxing and say shit like âhe canât talk heâs too busy mewingâ LMFAO (you either drip or you drown taketora)
Tora knows how to braid hair cause heâd help akane with her hair when they were younger
All of the second years used to bite people when they were kids
Third years:
The third years have done group costumes for halloween since their first year
Kai is basically the teamâs dedicated tutor (Kuroo is too snarky and yaku is too impatient)
Kuroo listens to western (English) music cause he thinks it makes him seem cool and he developed a superiority complex about it. âOh you havenât heard of Radiohead?â
Also kuroo and yaks have pretty similar music taste (a lot of modern rock) but the key difference is Kuroo likes arctic monkeys and yaku likes the strokes (they argue about which band is better constantly (yaku is right, its the strokes))(cause they always have to be arguing about something smh)
Kai also totally has a longtime girlfriend in high school bro is possibly the only person on the team whoâs done ANYTHING with a girl (probably one of the only people on the whole damn SHOW)
Kai defo knows martial arts I would not want to face him in a fight
Kuroo still uses emoticons instead of emojis :3 ;D and whenever he does, yaku makes fun of him and tells him to âget with the timesâ
Yaku 100% repeats what Kuroo says in a mocking tone whenever the opportunity arises
Kai is the type of person to say âpersonalityâ when asked if he prefers tits or ass
Miscellaneous:
Nekoma is the most neurodivergent team in the whole show bruh like come onÂ
(autistic: Lev, Kenma, fukunaga.)(kenma totally also has ARFID)
(ADHD: Inuoka, Yamamoto, (both textbook cases of ADHD in guys) Kuroo, fukunaga) (Fukunaga my AuDHD king)
(OCD: Tamahiko, shibuyama (I just get vibes ok leave me alone)Â
(Yaku isnât neurodivergent he just has anger issues lmao)Â
Kai is the only sane one on the entire team
Kuroo is also 100% one of those kids who got diagnosed with adhd really young so he appears mostly normal thanks to being medicated from the age of like- 6
Every single person on the team is oblivious as to when someone is flirting with them (kai is the exception)(girls pull out the wow your hands are so big and youâre so tall all the time and NOBODY reads into it)
Kai exclusively smells like a mix of vanilla and sandalwood and on the other side of that spectrum, Yamamoto reeks of axe body spray and b.o. No matter how many times Kenma tells him that axe actually drives girls away, Tora never listens.
Akane becomes manager of the boys volleyball team once she reaches high school (the first years will be third years by then)
The team all protective as HELL over akane (canon tbh)

Fridays are for beer and heartbreak

Beau Arlen x Reader
Summary: Your favorite patronâs there to mend your broken heart.
A/N: It's just a little something I came up with the other day. If I'm being honest, I've never seen Big Sky, but I'm a simp for a man in cowboy boots, so... enjoy. ïżœïżœïżœïżœ
Warnings: none? oh, maybe that English isn't my first language, so I'm sorry for any mistakes.
It wasnât necessarily a bad day. For what it's worth, it was a relatively nice, sunny day in Montana terms. Sure, my boyfriend declared the final break-up of our relationship, but to be frank, I was utterly unfazed by his antics; weâve been in an on-again-off-again relationship for a year now. Not that it was serious in the first place. At least, not for him. And, if Iâm honest with myself, maybe not for me either. So yeah, it was a relatively okay day.
Still, thereâs something about hearing the finality in someoneâs voice, even when itâs a toxic someone, that leaves you feeling a little hollow. The break-up itself wasnât anything spectacular. Just another drawn-out argument that ended with him muttering some lame excuse before walking out. It had happened so many times before that I almost laughed when he slammed the door shut behind himself.
I was free. Really free. But that didnât stop the ache sitting heavy in my chest.
I pushed through the rest of my day, the usual routine of prepping for the evening rush at the bar. A glance in the mirror told me I looked the part: western boots, worn-in jeans, a dark brown suede jacket I loved more than I probably should, and my hair pulled back just enough to stay out of my face but still look effortless. I should have felt like myself. I was supposed to be this confident, tough woman who didnât need anyone to mess with her head, but tonight⊠I just didnât have the energy to be that.
The bar was packed, as it usually was by this time of the night. The usual crowd was in full swing, with the sound of old country and blues tunes playing from the jukebox and the steady clink of bottles being set on tables. It was one of those oldie bars that still had that charming and rustic atmosphere, like time stilled between its four walls. That night, I stayed behind the counter more than I usually did, letting the other servers handle most of the tables. I wasnât in the mood to make small talk or listen to the same old stories Iâd heard a thousand times. I didn't have the energy for that either.
Then, Beau walked in. Right on schedule.
He had this easy confidence about him, something I noticed the first time he came in months ago. It was in the way he held himself, like he could command a room without trying, but somehow never made a big deal about it. Tall, broad shoulders, chestnut hair that always looked like he just ran a hand through it after a long shift. And those eyes, green, like the pines up in the mountains after the rain.
He always came in around this time on Fridays, right after his shift ended. Sheriff of Helena by day, patron at my bar by night. There was something comforting about the routine of it. Maybe because he was the closest thing I had to a friend here, even though we were more like two people who enjoyed each otherâs company but kept everything else at armâs length. Still, there was always something unspoken between us, something that hung in the air when he sat down at the bar.
Beau slid onto the barstool closest to me, the one he always sat at, and gave me a smile that eased the ache Iâd been feeling all damn day.
âEveningâ he said in that slow, easy drawl of his, laying his hat on the counter. âHowâs it going, darling?â
I forced a smile, pulling a cold beer from behind the bar and sliding it across to him without asking. He always ordered the same thing, and I always had it ready for him.
âSame as alwaysâ I replied, but even I could hear the flatness in my voice.
His eyes narrowed a little as he studied me, and I could feel his gaze linger on my slight but easily visible frown. He had a way of seeing through me like he could tell when something was off even before I said anything.Â
âYou sure about that?â His voice was anything but pushing. It was the way he asked, like he already knew the answer but was giving me a chance to speak first.
I glanced away, grabbing a towel and pretending to wipe down the already squeaky clean countertop. âIâm fine. Itâs nothing. Just⊠had one of those days, you know.â
Beau took a long sip of his beer, but he didnât take his eyes off me. âDoesnât seem like nothing.â
I let out a breath and leaned on the bar, dropping the towel and meeting his gaze.
âHe broke up with me. For real this time.â I hadnât planned on saying it, but the words came out before I could stop them.
He raised an eyebrow, but there wasnât any hint of surprise in his face. Itâs like he not only knew it was going to happen, but anticipated it too. âYou mean, finally?â
I couldnât help but laugh, a short yet sharp sound that felt good coming out. âYeah, I guess you could say that.â
Beau didnât say anything right away. He just sat there, watching me with those damn eyes that made it hard to keep things light. I couldnât keep anything light with him. Not now, not ever.
There was something deeper there tonight, something that had always simmered between us but felt more dangerous now, like we were toeing a line neither of us had been willing to cross before.Â
âYou good with that?â His voice was softer now, the edges so much gentler, and it felt like a real, genuine question, not just some small talk or polite chitchat.
âHonestly?â I asked with a sigh âIâm better off. I know that. But⊠it still stings, you know?â
Beau nodded, and something flickered in his expression, something almost protective. His gaze softened matching his voice. âYou deserve so much better than what he was giving you, darling.â
His words hung in the air between us, heavy with underlying meanings. I knew what he meant. I knew he wasnât just talking about my ex, and thatâs when the tension snapped into something sharper, something deeper. I felt it in the way he was looking at me now, not as the bartender he chatted with every Friday, but as someone he cared about. But could that be the truth?
Maybe I wasnât just his bartender either. Maybe weâd been dancing around this for too long. I leaned in slightly, not even realizing I was doing it until I saw his gaze drop to my lips. The bar around us seemed to fade, the noise, the people...none of it mattered in that moment. It was just me and Beau and the weight of everything unsaid between us thick and obvious in the air.Â
âYou gonna be alright?â he asked finally, and I couldn't help but notice how his voice became an octave lower... intimate in a way that sent a shiver down my spine.
âI think soâ I whispered.
But my heart was pounding, not from the breakup, but from the way he was looking at me. Like maybe, just maybe, heâd been waiting for this moment as long as I had.
It wasnât necessarily a bad day.
Thanks for reading! Have a nice day, loves. đ€

Why Stolitz is Helluva Boss's Worst Plotline
I don't know how to start this post so I'll just get to the point; Stolitz sucks complete ass and is the worst part of the show. It used to be interesting in season 1 but no longer in season 2, here's why.
1. Stolitz in season 1 (and why it worked)
Let's establish the reason why Stolitz worked in season 1. As we all know, Stolitz is a toxic relationship, it always has been. Stolas only wanted to sleep with Blitz and nothing else, to get all sexual with him and stuff....
And that's why it worked, Stolitz was in an intentionally toxic relationship, and the show treated it as such as seen in Ozzie's, where Blitz tells Stolas he doesn't want to sleep with him anymore. This was an interesting conflict and a lot of people were excited to see where season 2 would take Stolitz going forward after this. How was it going to resolve this conflict? There was a lot of potential...that season 2 has completely destroyed.
2. The Circus Ruins Everything (and here's why)
Now we move onto the season 2 premiere, The Circus, and hooo boy this is where the problems with this relationship begin to show themselves, as we encounter the first problem with Stolitz; Viv trying to retcon her way out of making Stolitz not toxic. The Circus makes the bizarre writing choice of making Blitz and Stolas childhood friends...
This writing decision sucks ass, here's why. Ok, first of all, let's get this out of the way first; this is a retcon. Stolas and Blitz being childhood friends and Stolas loving Blitz all along does not at all line up with any of their interactions throughout season 1, the point of their relationship in season 1 was that Stolas was the only part of Blitzo that Stolas was interested in was his dick and nothing else, this ignores that in favor of painting Blitz and Stolas as UwU childhood friends while forgetting all of their interactions in season 1.
Second of all, it's entirely unnecessary. Nothing about Blitz and Stolas's dynamic changes if you remove this and just have them fall in love as adults. Third, as a previous anon had already pointed out, making Blitz and Stolas childhood friends actually makes Stolas look worse because he's treating his childhood friend like a sex toy rather than a person. We'll get to this later but a major problem with Stolitz is the fact that the show tries to portray Stolas as the UwU sad soft boy victim and ignore how he treats Blitz in favor of making him and UwU soft boy.
The Circus is merely the beginning of that; the show is now starting to try and retcon its way out of making Stolitz not toxic by portraying as a UwU sweet childhood friendship all the while forgetting the actual point of the relationship to begin with. Don't worry, because hoooo boy let's talk about the next problem with Stolitz in season 2 that being...
3. The Feud in Ozzies (and its resolution)
So y'all would know that Stolas and Blitz had a fight at the end of Ozzies, right? Well this is where we enter the second problem with Stolitz; the events of Ozzie's go completely ignored. The next time Blitz and Stolas have an onscreen interaction is the second episode of season 2, Seeing Stars (Aka the only decent episode in this whole season). The two interact and...they just go along like nothing happened. As if they didn't have an argument at the end of season 1. People clearly noticed this and were confused as to why these two were just playing along as if the events of Ozzie's never happened...
Well guess what, episode 4, Western Energy, actually resolves the conflict the two had... off-screen...with a blink and you'll miss it text message. This was the moment I had officially lost my patience with this stupid season. It's just SO damn insulting. So you wanted to see where they could take this plotline after Ozzie's? How could Blitz and Stolas develop and resolve their conflict? Hehe well too fucking bad how about we just pretend that didn't happen and then resolve it with a fucking text message.
This is such a lazy and underwhelming way to resolve a conflict, it feels like Viv didn't know where to take Stolitz after season 1 so she just decided to give their feud an underwhelming resolution that unless you directly pause you would miss. So, the feud Blitz and Stolas had at the end of Ozzie's is completely forgotten about and then resolved off-screen, so fuck you to anybody who was excited to see where they went with this plot line I guess. Now that we have that out of the way...let's talk about the next problem with Stolitz;
4. Blitz's demonization
So season 1 ended with Blitz making it crystal clear to Stolas that he is deeply upset about their relationship only being about having sex with each other, so it's very clear that given how Stolas has been acting towards Blitz, he is the victim and Stolas is the abuser, so, therefore, Blitz is in the right for not loving Stolas given their interactions with each other throughout the whole season...
Ya well watch as season 2 just completely ignores that and tries to paint Blitz as the one in the wrong for not loving Stolas. This is where we enter the next problem with Stolas; treating Blitz as if he is in the wrong for not loving Stolas (or not believing that Stolas does genuinely love him). Stolas has been treating Blitz as nothing but a sex toy throughout all of season 1 and yet the show wants us to believe that BLITZ is in the wrong here??
Episode 6 Oops is where this problem really shows itself. I already ranted about this episode before, however the cage scene where Blitz and Fizz talk about their sex life is indicative of Viv trying to make Blitz look like the bad guy because Stolas did some nice things for him... off-screen. Talk about telling instead of showing. Like I said in that post, it feels like a retcon; we never saw Stolas do any of these nice things for Blitz and that doesn't even line up with his behavior in season 1.
It's also just...lazy. Viv couldn't be bothered to actually SHOW Stolas doing these nice things for Blitz so she just TELLS us that Stolas did all of these things for him so Blitz could look bad. However, it falls flat because once again, it's told to us, not shown. AND EVEN IF we accept that Stolas did do all of these nice things for Blitz, THAT STILL DOESN'T EXCUSE HIS TREATMENT OF HIM!!!
So the show wants us to see Blitz as the bad guy for the crime of not loving Stolas because he treated him like a toy rather than a person, but Blitz is NOT in the wrong for acting this way at all yet the show paints him as the bad guy anyway. The show is basically saying that a victim is in the wrong for getting mad at their abuser for abusing them.
"But Blitz took advantage of his childhood friend!" Yes, Blitz was an asshole, but so was Stolas, yet the show acts as if Blitz is 100% the bad guy and Stolas is 100% an innocent soft boy. Speaking of Stolas...
5. Stolas is terrible
So Stolas is terrible, plain and simple. He is very toxic and abusive to Blitz as I've already gone over. However, for some reason, rather than framing Stolas as the abuser he is, Season 2 opts to instead frame him as an UwU soft boy who supposedly did nothing wrong. This is less of a problem with Stolitz and more with Stolas's character as a whole; the show portrays Stolas as an UwU sad Owl boy and we're supposed to sympathize with him despite him not being a great person.
And Stolitz is where this issue shows itself the most. Season 2 never portrays Stolas as in the wrong for how he treated Blitz in Season 1, instead trying woobify him and simply turning around and saying "oh Stolas just wants a friend! He genuinely does love Blitz! Why doesn't Blitz love him back?!". We clearly are not supposed to see Stolas as the abuser here, however, no matter how you slice it Stolas IS the abuser in this relationship.
And so far the show has never made him apologize to Blitz for how he treated him nor has it tried to make him better himself for Blitz. And it seems like Viv has tried to make Stolas look better in episode 6 with the scene where Blitz says that Stolas did all these nice things for him, but once again it's ineffective because it was off-screen. And once again the decision to make him and Blitz childhood friends ties directly back into this because as I've already said, it makes Stolas look far worse because he's treating his own childhood friend like a sex toy, despite how much the show wants to convince us that Stolas is just an UwU soft boy who did nothing wrong and just wants a friend, and no matter how much the show will demonize Blitz, I can not feel bad for Stolas because he's the abuser, not Blitz.
Stolas is just incredibly unlikeable and hard to sympathize with, especially when it comes to this relationship. "But Stolas genuinely loves Blitz!"- putting aside the fact that was also a retcon, even if Stolas genuinely loves Blitz, that doesn't somehow mean that how Stolas treats Blitz is ok. Despite how much the show wants us to convince us that Blitz is the bad guy here and Stolas is just a victim, Stolas is an abuser, there is absolutely NO denying it.
But what if I told you there is a piece of HB content that exemplifies this issue the most? Well...I promised y'all I'd analyze this video so...without further ado...
6. Let's Tear Apart the "Just Look My Way" music video
The second I finished watching this music video, I KNEW that I had to talk about it in this post. Why exactly? Well aside from it being the worst piece of HB content I have ever seen, it's also...a stolitz song. It shows off the issue of Stolas being woobified in season 2 greatly. In this section, I'm going to analyze the lyrics in the song while explaining why this song is the culmination of my biggest issues with this stupid ship. This entire song is about Stolas singing about how sad he is that Blitzy doesn't love him đ„ș, and it is SO telling that this is the message the song is going for given the lyrics like this:
"Let me hold you, keep you close to me I long to hear your voice"
"I don't care that you're of lower station Or primed to sate my dark temptations Why can't you understand? Let me explain!"
These lyrics scream "Blitzy why don't you love me!!!". But that's contrasted by lyrics like...this;
"But dearest, I know better now I must give you this choice"
"I will try to make amends For making you means to an end So, look my way, please, look my way"
This actually sounds like Stolas apologizing to Blitz for how he treated him, which is exactly what I wanted...but the rest of the lyrics are just Stolas saying "Blitzy why don't you love me!!!". It's once again choosing to victimize Stolas rather than actually framing him as the abuser he is. This entire song is the most melodramatic emotionally manipulative shit I've ever seen, it once again portrays Stolas as an UwU soft boy who did nothing wrong and just wants someone to love him.
"But Viv didn't write the lyrics!" For those who don't know, Just Look My Way was a fan song that Viv and her team decided to animate as well as make Stolas's voice actor sing. And yes, Viv did not write this song, a fan did, however my issue is that within the context of the rest of the show up until this point, these lyrics do not do any favors for this ship. And I feel like Viv chose this specific song just so she could make Stolas look like a UwU soft boy again. There's also the fact that Viv changed some of the lyrics as well, removing the little impish plaything line and the one talking about Octavia.
This could be done to make the song closer to canon...but there's also a possibility that Viv did this so she could NOT acknowledge Stolas's actual faults and make the song entirely about Stolitz. This post summed it up pretty well.
So conclusion; Just Look My Way is an awful music video that is horrifically bad when It comes to the context of this relationship and once again tries to make Stolas look sympathetic when he really isn't. This is not how you make a sympathetic character guys. Now let's talk about the final issue with Stolitz...
7. It's Just Plain Toxic
This is the biggest reason why I (and many other critics) dislike Stolitz; it's just plain toxic. It's a toxic ass ship where the abuser is portrayed as the victim while the victim is framed as the abuser, and where the abuser has never gone to better himself for the victim, yet the show wants us to root for this couple to get together for some reason despite that. The show constantly paints this an UwU cute childhood friendship when it's anything BUT that in reality. It's toxic, plain and simple.
8. Conclusion
Look, if you like or ship Stolitz, that's fine, I didn't make this post because I wanted people to stop shipping it. I made this post because I believe Stolitz is easily the worst part of the show, it's a horribly written toxic and abusive romance that we are supposed to root for and the fact that people DEFEND this ship despite it being OBJECTIVELY toxic and unhealthy is baffling to me.
So ya, that's why I hate Stolitz...bye.

Reading lesbian and sapphic literature is sometimes so alienating because honestly speaking, 96% of the essays and memoirs I found, as well as queer theory, do not even consider the possibility of butch4butch, or worse, just mention it as a cursory afterthought (I think maybe the "Faggot Butch" essay in S. Bear Bergman's Butch is a Noun, 2006, is the closest that comes to speaking of the erasure of butch4butch):

Most of the so-called sapphic classics are either butch femme or femme4femme. Same with Japanese yuri and Korean manwhaâGod, I have lots to say about the lack of butch representation in modern GL, except for like maybe one or two stories, some of which are fetishizing representations. Definitely no butch4butch anywhere. Its either butches as animalistic savage masculinized women of color, or butches as predatory older women. And that's to not even speak of contemporary western romance and publishing.
Pictured here: My Date is a Total Ike Woman (manga) by natuo mutsumi, Asahi to Satsuki (manga) by fujita, The Girl I hated (manwha) by Ownte, Renai Idenshi xx (manga) by Taishi Zaou

It's just unfair of me, I know, but I zone out so badly whenever a queer theorist discusses butchness and butch identity exclusively in tandem with our relationship to femmes. I do think that butch-femme history is intertwined, inextricably so, and I love my femme comrades, sisters, and lovers, but damn, I don't think butches should be defined by our attraction to femmes, or even our need for femmes as some sort of essential step to self fulfilment. A lot of us are attracted to other butches. Sometimes exclusively, sometimes not.
And also, has anybody noticed that butch4butch stories in publishing are almost always short form online content, maybe oneshot stories, or a novella, or an afterthought addition to a collection? It's either that or a story will be exclusively based in some sort of "lesbian-normative universe" with fifty sapphic characters, and yet, all twenty five butches will be neatly stacked up like forks and spoons with twenty five femmes, with an alternative not even considered; all the butch relationships will be just platonic bros. I have been struggling to maintain the butch4butch database with almost no new stories out.
I don't know, I guess I'm just irritated, sad and unmotivated. As it were, I'm not white and don't live in the West, so butch4butch isn't even a thing I have gotten to experience in my home country and our queer literature, what little there is of it. If you have butch4butch stories and OCs please always tag me. I'll make sure to give them a shoutout.

hi sy! first things first, youâre a fantastic writer. i am in LOVE with your western series! second, may i request an idea? itâs the 1920s, and miguel is one of the top mobsters in nueva york, while the reader is his mob wife. after an attempted hit from one of miguelâs rivals that nearly kills her and gabriella, the reader decides itâs time to her and little girl to skip town, but miguel will be damned if his family tries to leave him. cueeeee angst, drama, the whole shabang!
canary I: a threat | [miguel o'hara x reader x gabriel o'hara]

â pairing | miguel o'hara x reader, gabriel o'hara x reader
â type | double shot; 5k
â tags | non-monogamy, some angst, 1920s inspired piece, irish clan inspired piece, bootlegging and mention of hits, explicit, a depiction of killings, some jealousy, some trad-roles elements, f!reader, 1920s slang and Spanish not translated, time period birth control (cervical cap).
â syâs notes | i have spent weeks staring at this piece. it's a bit longer than my usual works and for that reason i decided to split it up into two chapters. this piece takes on a little bit more of a generalized irish mob approach rather than italian. this chapter is more domestic than the subsequent one will be.

Miguel OâHara hated it when his kills ran. No matter how many alleyways they ducked into, shoddily constructed fences they tumbled over, or crappy cars they tried to hitch a ride in, he always found them.
His fingers were blisteringly tight around his killâs throat, sure to leave certain bruising if the man made it out alive. He wouldnât. Not based on the blood that seeped over Miguelâs tanned hand. He gurgled underneath Miguelâs hand, the kill messier than he imagined. Any number of his hitmen could have carried out this contract but instead, his crisp white top was slathered in the contract kill of the week. He recalled the sudden memory of his hand on your slight waist, the kiss on the top of your head with the promise of his night. He snarled the memory away.
Shouldâve just shot him, Miguel thought. Mierda.
With the fading of the manâs life, his choked grunts drifted into silence. Miguel allowed the man to slump over. Silence fractured, his world bursting with sound. The salt-laden wind whistled past his hair as ships sailed into the pier, carrying cargo, and his latest shipments. Bootlegged booze had its own benefits-- poor training and numbers among agents, for example. A crackle of an engine sped down the road was followed by the bright beams of an electric headlamp.
âÂĄOye, Miguel!â
Of course. Under the bright moon that shone arrogantly in the dark sky, the figure came into focus. His polished suit was just a tad too big for his toned, but hardly muscular frame. Even in the darkness, he had the kind of smile that made people feel like they were the special ones. It matched the gentleness in his eyes behind that swoop of chestnut brown hair. If the feds published men of their color on army recruitment posters, heâd certainly make the cut. Handsome, but not too handsome. Strong, but not too strong.
âGabe,â he breathed. âThe lights.â
âLights? The lights!â Gabriel looked back at his shiny black car. He bounced back toward the car, bellowing. âThis a Spot boy? You did a number on him.â
âYou sap. Could you be any louder?â Miguel threw aside. âWhy are you here?â
âThought you could use me tonight, big shot,â Gabriel said in that sugar-dipped tongue of his. It works less on Miguel than it had on you. It was oddly discomforting. As the days wore on, he loathed his brotherâs silver tongue.
âI could use someone watching my girls.â
âJesus, Mary, and Joseph, I was. They're sleeping." Gabriel booted the man, more than minced meat when Miguel was done with him. âYou had some beef with him, huh?â
âNo.â Miguel mumbled, looking at the manâs body rather than his own, something sharp hovering there. There was nothing he wanted less than to stand in the biting cold listening to his baby brother prattle on a moment longer. He wiped his blade on his once-was-crisp slacks and slid it back into its sheathe. âLetâs hit it.â
âJake,â Gabriel said, an annoying rendition of an okay. Gabriel was full of shitty terms from his stint in the big house. Almost as many as he picked up at Miguelâs speakeasy.
âSay. Miguel?â
Gabrielâs voice was soft, almost strained. Miguel caught his eyes, knowing subconsciously what his brother would say. He sucked in a breath to calm himself from a reaction to thin, sharp words. They balanced on the point of a knife as Gabriel spoke them into existence.
âThey're our girls.â

This setup wasn't going to last. One day, you'd probably settle with Gabe. Miguel jerked up to the sensation of your fingers ghosting his chest, twiddling around his inky black chest hair, gliding across scars. He senses the source of his disquiet, your small frame draped over his side, watching him with a foreign curiosity.
âMuñeca?â he murmured sleepfully, tucking a lock of your hair behind your ear. âWhat's it? Did Gabriel sleep in?â
He finds it hard to believe that his chirpy brother would do such a thing. Mornings were notoriously his favourite part of the day. Unlike Miguel, who shunned the light that streamed in from your thin curtains.
âCoppers took him in for questioning,â you murmured, leaning in to lay a small peckish kiss on his lips. That was quick. His eyes swept down to your lips, lingering there as you spoke. âGabi said youâd come with me to iglesia.â
âChingado. He passed the buck onto me.â Miguel groaned, dropping his head back onto the pillow, weighed down by such a stupid request. You thumbed the golden necklace heâd forgotten to take off, gliding one of your legs up his hirsute thighs. He finds himself hiking your leg higher up his thigh. âThatâs what you woke me up for?â
ââCourse not,â you muttered. âI missed you last night. Whereâd you go off to?â
âTo finish intake.â
You didnât believe that.
âPromise it didnât have nothing to do with what Gabi got carted off for?â He holds you in a working gaze, something that tells you he isnât about to answer something like that. You are his woman. Yet, some secrets arenât ones that heâs willing to disclose. It could put you in a compromised position. Most men, namely the Italian boys, had enough sense not to drag a manâs family into problems between the mob and the clan but in this world, not everyone had sense.
âMiguelito, youâre scaring me.â Your breath quickened, palpable with your chest against his. His large hand encompassed the middle of your back, guiding small, consolatory circles.
âSome things youâre better off not knowing,â Miguel worked at an explanation. Some things like the amount of hits he was getting for Spot boys. The booze going missing from the speakeasy. Some of his girls licked off the street. Just-- some things. âGot it?â
âLong as itâs not another dame,â you mumbled, fisting his necklace around your fist, dragging him forward for emphasis. A smile tugged at his lips, somehow pleased with your response. âWhat? You been out the house more times than not.â
âI share you with my brother,â Miguel worked the back of his neck. âBetter that I skip town than hear you moaning for him. Might hem him up one of these days.â
You laugh-- but Miguel doesnât find a lick of it funny.
âYou got me now,â your hands drifted up to Miguelâs massive shoulders. âHow âbout this. You fill me all up for church, wear that spiffy dark blue suit. Then we take Lyla out to get her some cherry coke at the apothecaryâs. Maybe Iâll even sing you a whole song today if youâre lucky.â
Church, again. Miguel rattled a groan. Of course, he couldnât have one day off from frateurinizing with people who hated the fuck outta him. Church folk. He didnât know why you insisted on going with people who openly called you loose.
âCan do without one of those things.â
âIf you want me, you go to iglesia, Miguelito.â

West-Side Violence at All-Time High! Italian Enforcer found dead! The West clanâs Gabriel OâHara facing added charges on suspicion of--
Tch. You interrupted the scowl on his face with a well-placed kiss to his cheekbone, sliding a piping hot mug of Joe before him. Wafts of steam warmed his cheeks. You set down his morningâs breakfast, a plate loaded with fats. No tamales today, but baked beans from a few well-established Irish wives in the area. You wiped your greasy fingers off on a dirtied apron. Miguel stabbed a hunk of sausage as you spoke.
âGabiâd never do that. Theyâre trying to hem him up like that capo last month,â your voice quaked, strutting back toward the cabinets. âItâs too personal. Heâd⊠fill âem up with lead sure, but a stabbing? It just donât make sense.â
Sure didn't. Miguel dropped the paper to the side of the oak table, tracing lines of worry that grew into spiderwebs of panic across your forehead. You spoke so feverishly in defense of Gabriel, whose absence was palpable. He often talked about the latest hired singer, sneaking behind your waist for kisses on your nape when Miguel could barely drag himself out of bed in the morning after pulling all-nighters.
âI have someone on it.â
âI bet Papa did it.â His daughter-- or Gabrielâs-- they were never quite sure. He glanced to his foot where Lyla sat. A full seven-year-old, Lyla was a spitfire of a thing, her hair in a bouncy bob topped by a silky ribbon. She glanced up from the dreidel she was spinning around and around. His lips pulled into a minced smile. âWhat? Heâs a liar.â
âMiguel.â
Couldnât even eat in peace.
âLyla,â Miguel gestured toward the door. âGo wake up Maeve. Go on kid, get.â
That kid had a smart mouth. He watches her roll her eyes, only budging when you supply her with a hunk of pan dulce. She takes a mean bite, eyes locked on Miguel as she hopped out, somehow less bothered than she was a few seconds ago. You closed the metal door behind your daughter, a hand balled up on the bend in your waist as you watched her skip down the stairs and out of view.
âMost girls donât talk like that about their papas,â you mumbled. Your arms crossed one over the other for support. âDoes she hate him that much?â
âMost girls donât grow up in the life.â
âMi culpa.â
With his breakfast all but spoiled, Miguel pushed the plate away. His hand was soft on your waist, nose burrowed into your hair, tracing the notes of jasmine and rose, vanilla and sandalwood. The scent was unmarred by the stench of speakeasy smoke so early in the morning. Your hand came over his, steadying yourself from the rushing thoughts by leaning into his touch.
âI need a girl at the speakeasy tonight.â
Unlike his brother, Miguelâs requests rarely offer a tone of choice. It rolls off his tongue dry and hits your ear like a spike. Nothing about your relationship with Miguel was easy-- it was marred by the rivalry among the brothers-- and as you suspected-- interloping from your grandfather.
âY Lyla?â
âMaeve is her nanny.â
âHow can I step in there without Gabi?â
âHeâd want you to. And I want to see you out of this dumb apron.â
âIt isnât dumb,â you pursed your lips, somehow more convinced despite your reservations. Most days, you spend the day in the house-- isolated from any life you came to Nueva York for. Any half-formed excuse that was on your tongue flopped. He nearly has you. âIt is right dumb, isnât it?â
âSure is. What happened to my canary?â
âShe met a pair of terrible brothers who donât care for pulling out.â
âDonât blame me.â
He pushed himself against your back, twiddling your fingers against the pantyhose that clothed your thighs. A smile tugged on your lips as Miguel leaned over to kick the front door shut, dipping onto his knees. It wasnât often that he allowed you to ruin his perfect face before work. Today is a special treat.
But⊠if you thought back, you really should have.

Took a long time to get any mail from the island. Almost impossible.
In your hands is a sloppily penned letter-- You should be married to one of those boys-- your grandfather. He isnât stupid enough to think that youâre opening this for the first time tonight, here and now, right in front of him. If youâre âreadingâ it, you must be wanting him to take a hint. Miguel bent down, placed a kiss on your temple, gliding his hands over your own to place the letter onto the vanity.
He used those very same hands that were meant for maiming against the clasp of a set of pearls around your neck with gentle precision. His fingers coursed along the curls at your nape as he clasped them together.
âHow long before your set?â
âHalf an hour⊠maybe.â You stood to face him, pursing ruby-red lips, whispering in his motherâs tongue. He never liked it when his mother barked at him in Spanish, but when it's off your tongue, he knows how sweet it could be. Your hand inched its way over his chest, tracing the fat knot against his throat.
âWhatâs the issue?â
âI donât-- feel very perfect. You have all these shebas out there--â women who not only knew how to sing but werenât terribly mottled by stretchmarks or burdened by the eviscerating effect of motherhood. Theyâre beautiful, free canaries when they sing in his speakeasy. As much as you loved singing-- you felt shy on that ruby-red stage lately, before a dozen ruby tables and the hopping band.
âTheyâre to bring in the sugar.â
âUh-huh, bring in the sugar until they take you away.â
âIâm satisfied.â Miguel took a step up, communicating the way he knew how, by settling his large hand over your jaw. His strong hand glided to your chin, urging you to look him in the eye. âIâm not going anywhere. Tied me down with Lyla as it is.â
âWords are just words. Why buy theâŠâ
âCow if you can get the milk for free, sĂ, I know what your grandfather says.â He slips into your chair. âQuĂš quieres?â
âI donât know, Miguelito. A promise. A marriage. Algo.â
âYou want me to wife you up? Donât remember ever talking about this.â He gestured you to come closer. You stepped up, knocking between his legs. Miguelâs gaze falters, chasing the glint of your tassels as they come to a stop.
âWhatâs the issue?â
âNothing. I thought youâd ask Gabe.â
âGabe gets around.â
âYou believe those rumors.â You slap his large hands groping up your thighs, climbing over his lap like it was your throne. His massive frame eclipses the chair, suppressing your comparatively smaller frame. âAnd donât think I do?â
âDo you?â
âNo,â he laughs. Or, not recently. Itâs hard being a father-- harder when he has a whole ass business to keep on top of. Most women wanted those things: jewels, a new pair of silk knickers, and a home. âIf thatâs what you want, you got it.â
âOh Miguelito,â he suckled your neck, drawing horrendous marks to the surface. Marks of his ownership in the absence of a ring. He hears the pleased hum of your voice, low and sweet, and knows thatâs exactly what you wanted to hear.
âI havenât put in my cap,â his fingers danced across the outside of your thighs, slipping past your stockings to your silken shorts. He slotted his fingers underneath the fabric, grazing his fingers through your neatly kept curls. Your breath came in deeper bursts as he melded his hand over your vulva, expecting you to grind back on him. You did, ever so eager for him.
âDonât bother me with that,â he said in a low, husked voice. âYou know how I feel about your birth control.â
It was your idea, primarily. Gabe was ever too content to simply be with you-- he didnât need a large family like the rest of Miguelâs Irish clan. Four, six, sometimes more. Unlike Gabe, Miguel wanted the exact opposite. You shifted over his thigh, obeying his desire to have you ride him. Miguel urged your hips down, working his thumb over the precious button as you did. Miguelâs leg trembled up against your slit, bursts of warm friction warming your hungry body. With his slacks freshly cleaned, you worry about soaking them, soaked in lubricant as you were.
âCome here,â you surrendered a soft moan to him, leaning forward now, less to ride his thigh than the bulge in his slacks. He does not quite care for the idea of ruining himself inside the confines of his pants, but if you want to feel him, he has no reason to deny you. Youâre wonderfully spoiled, juddering your hips over him like any whore walking the streets in exchange for a coin or two. What heâd give to have this to himself.
It donned on him-- he could have it to himself. This time, heâd be certain of who the child belonged to. He adored his Lyla, though his irritation with her quips was ever palpable, this-- right here, the ability to fill you and be certain filled him with fat hunger and possessive need to burst into his slacks.
âStop-- Muñeca-- stop,â Miguel tipped his head back, gathering his focus by digging his hand into your hair, stopping you immediately. His harsh grip loosened, followed up by loosening the button of his slacks and shoving them below the curve of his ass. His cock slapped your silken shorts, beads of his desire dripping from his cockhead. âTake those off. Iâm finishing inside.â
âMiguelito,â you slipped onto shaky feet, enough that Miguel could force the shorts underneath your dress to the floor. âWe agreed that babies would be--â
âYou asked to be my wife. Ainât this what wives do?â
âI know bu-- not there, deja, let me,â you stopped. His cockhead clumsily poked here and there, until finally, your hand guided him properly. Your mouth fell into a hazy moan when Miguelâs cock shoved forward, breaching your cunt with a snap of his hips. You seated yourself back onto his fat cock, reminded of the absence of your cervical cap in your cunt.
For all your talk, you ached for him, dipping your intertwined hands down to your mound. The rhythm was as sloppy as whatever singer was on stage right now, her voice giving way into a distinct crack. Whatever-- if it bought him more time to properly seed you, he didnât mind.
He buckled forward as you clenched down upon him, holding him prisoner deep in your body. Liquid soaked his slacks-- and Miguel huffed, puffs of hot air warming your back. That was going to be fun to walk out in. His wifeâs cum soaking his crotch.
âHold still. Itâs almost showtime,â Miguelâs voice was thin, his hand splayed on your waist as he used you less like his woman and more like a toy for his pleasure. It didnât take long for Miguel to find a proper rhythm, his muscles flexing against your back. You were preoccupied as it were with the pain of Miguelâs teeth sinking on your shoulder, spiking hot as his pleasure crested. Soon enough, you felt his warmth fill your core, your head lulling back against him only after his thrusts ebbed.
âDonât clean up, go on stage leaking.â Miguel held out his hand for you to take, allowing you to pull your shorts back up your ass, nestling his leaking cum in the fabric. It helped ease the anxiety of having you on stage, somehow, to see you in such a state.
âWhen you knock me up, youâre telling Gabi. I... can't.â You told Miguel, smoothing your dress over your shorts. There was a nervous flush in your eyes-- shame, he placed the emotion. He scrubbed the smile from his face. He had at least a few weeks.
âSure thing.â

There was a certain delight in seeing you dressed up in that little black dress, all bright red lips, and sultry song. Not that you didnât look tasty in that stupid apron you wore not to dirty any one of the pretty dresses you wore to church-- like you werenât a heathen for warming the bed of two OâHara boys. The people knew it. The church knew it. Damn well, the town knew it.
âPal, thatâs her on stage,â went an Italian boy. An allied family through nothing but contract killing and coin, he was safe here for the time being. One little lapse in a contract could shake it all. âThatâs their kitten.â
âShe married?â
Miguel turned his gaze back to you for a long moment. Your warm, sweetly lidded words slipping off your tongue, making his mind sluggish and relaxed after a long day. He captured your eyes, minding how your hands fell to the tasseled ends of an already short skirt, daring to expose your skin obscured by pantyhose to the crowd. You knew the game, how far you could lift your skirt without your would-be husband jumping his cage.
âDonât be goofy. Miguelâd get sore if Gabe tried. She has âem both around her finger. Has a kid by one of them. No one knows whose. I got my money on--â
Stupid kids.
âKid, Iâm gunning for another.â Miguel cut the boy off, eyes crinkling at the edges. Something in the way you moved on stage reminded him of Lylaâs pregnancy, perhaps the glitter in your eyes when you met him at his table, instead of backstage, holding his large hands in your own. Some sparkle in your eye, a ginger announcement in his ear. Half elation, half⊠something else. Something, not quite fear, swirled in the boyâs eyes. Miguel watched with a keen interest as the boy flushed.
âRight on, big shot.â
Miguel brought his cigarette to his lips, letting his eyes flutter closed and his mind wander to the past. He should have known you were hands-off from the moment Gabriel wouldnât beat it with the idea of adding another girl to their speakeasy.
The best time to tell Miguel about his new girl in the speakeasy was when he was in a good mood: catching any bootleg thief put him in a good mood. Not that he was particularly partial to grey matter and blood spraying him like a fresh pinata, but⊠he was more partial to money in his pocket and a good reputation. His boys cared for much of the violence in the West of this shitty little town.
âYou hired a new girl?â Miguel repeated, drawing a long hit of his cigarette with blood-smattered fingers.
âSpanish girl. Like us. We donât have a Spanish girl in this joint.â
âGabe. Most of our clients are Irish. They donât speak Spanish.â
âYou should see her Miggy. Sheâs got this angelic little face,â Gabe whacked his elder brother, his grin growing ear to ear. There it was, his baby brother got blinded by his dick again. âWhen she sings you-- well, you get all twisted up.â
âAngelic face,â Miguel mumbled under his breath, tapping excess off of his cigarette. For the price he paid his girls, she had better have the face of Mary herself. The last few Gabe had pulled were mistakes. Some drug-addicted. Others whose husbands always caused a mean stir. He drags his hand down his face, weighing the costs. âShe another dumb--â
âSheâs Danielâs littlinâ. You remember Daniel? Taught you how to use a kn--â
The sigh that sat in his chest dissipated like vapor, perfusing into his tissue. Miguel looked at the paper Gabriel set in his blood-tinged fingers. He rotated it, gave it a look with his tired eyes. Talk to Gabriel. That old man knew just what Miguel would have said: get your ass back on a boat and go home to whatever rinky-dink island you foolishly sailed off of for this shitty city.
âLemme see her sing.â
He doesnât pay attention when Gabriel introduces you onstage for the first time, focusing on the paper ledgers Peter arranged for a review. Unlike his Italian connections, he donât mind mixing it up with the Jewish boys. Theyâre twice as smart on the books and twice less likely to be hauling in trouble. Bootleg booze was one thingâ the opium, the heroin, the cocaine, and morphine another. It packed too much heat from the coppers.
He hadnât meant to look up.
It didnât occur to him that you could have a sickly sweet voice, tempered by the rich Spanish on your tongue, only rivaled by those beautiful looks. His abandoned ciggy threw smoke into the air. He slumped back into the chair with a heavy thud, unclenched his tense jaw, and listened to a sirenâs song that felt both familiar and distant all the same.
You had the sort of eyes he swore heâd met before, despite knowing heâd never seen a face like yours around. Heâd remember sinking his teeth in that delicate neck that sat under pearls that he supplied most of his singers for their performances. His eyes hungrily cantering down your tassel dress. Not one he provided, no, he knew most to all the pieces in the back. There was a simple beauty in the gown.
You were trouble. He caught your eyes with an intent expression and expected you to blush and look away. You smiled. He wasnât sure if it was for him or Gabriel, who flicked a grade-A smile, and a twiddling wave of your little fingers. He wants to feel them scratching down his back.
â--anyone home? Miggy? Miguel. Donât tell me youâre already stuck on her.â Gabriel teased, elbowing Miguel in the arm. âYou are! Told you she could sing.â
âPipe down.â He jammed his ciggy in the dish.
âSorry.â
He watches you a moment more, the slide of your legs to the tune of the band. The way your laugh resonated through the speakeasy when a patron stumbled onto the stage for his take on some stiff-legged swing. Most women would push them off, look to him for help in the swing, but you ran with the twirl the drunk led you into. He hated to admit that Gabriel was right. Among all the girls in his speakeasy, you brought a lightness to the life of a drunkard heâd not seen in a while.
âGabe,â he mumbled, standing up and whirling his suit jacket over his broad shoulders.
âYeah?â
I toldâja so, Gabrielâs voice sounded in his head. He could already feel the stiff annoyance that would be Gabrielâs fist connecting with his shoulder. Why did Gabriel have to know him so well? Miguel spoke with an undercurrent of annoyance.
âLetâs keep her.â
âYou donât gotta tell me twice.â

A hail of loud pops ruptured his sweet, distant memories. He reaches out to snatch his gun from the table, settled between the fresh flowers he plucked for your show. For an instant, his world wasnât quiet. It wasnât sounded out by the deafening assuredness of a kill, but very real panic under the singled out by the shrill of your scream.
They're going to push up on us, Miguel told Gabe. He never did take anything outside the speakeasy seriously.
Except tonight, there was no Gabriel. Miguel clasped his hand around his gun, whirling for the source of the flame. The barrage of gunfire is put down as quickly as it began. With a host of Irishmen in the bar, he should be so unsurprised. One of the Italian kids slumped over on his table.
Thereâs blood-- a lot of blood. Hysterics bound all around, some soothed by their partners or friends. The other Italian boy just stares-- lips slightly apart-- jarred by whatever horror was before him. Miguel finds it hard to believe that he hasnât seen worse. Others burning his ears like the morning sun in his eyeballs every day you forgot to pull the curtains closed.
âGod damn it, Peter.â Standing there is the scrawny little devil of a bookmaker himself, smiling cheesily.
âHope thatâs a good god damn it.â
He shoved his way from the tables, numbing out the complaint of the Italian boy. You were long since gone, probably a good thing that you werenât here, thatâs for fucking sure. Itâd been the first time since Gabeâs incarceration he managed to drag you out of there and now⊠you were somewhere, undoubtedly frightened. Maybe even hurt.
âBoy, wonder who this kid crossed. Say, about Gabe, I got good news--â
He seized a chair, flicking it past Peter, a sure hiss for him to shut the fuck up about his baby brother in the can. Peter put his hands up reflexively, tracing Miguelâs rising shoulders.
âShe ran to the back.â

The slender hallway down to his office is cold, only illuminated by the occasional pull-pin light bulb swinging overhead. He came here most days that he wasnât on shift, taking a hit, or caring for his boys. Keeping track of everything was the best way to stay ahead. And even still-- he missed something from one of Spotâs boys.
You didnât bother to close the door, balled up in a corner of his small office. He has a glorified cot for a bed in a corner, a heavy desk that nearly killed Gabe trying to hike it down the stairs years ago, and a rack stuffed with any number of books.
âItâs me,â his voice filled the room. You peered up from behind your arms, wrapped around your knees. What a stupid oversight, he thought, whoever was in charge of the damn door let someone in that was⊠going to be a problem. He was good with Luckyâs crew. Now he was gonna have to pick up that wired phone and tell him some kid was dead.
Your heels scratched across the ground, scooting back to the cool wall. You werenât hurt-- just, sort of shocked. Maybe being conned into church with you panned out somehow.
âMuñeca.â
âThat ainât⊠ever happened with Gabe before.â
Gabe. Dy by day that he heard his brotherâs voice, it became more of an annoyance. It wasnât fair to make the comparison-- Gabe caring for most things that went on in the speakeasy, Miguel caring for interpersonal deals and security. With Gabe away, heâd not⊠it didnât matter.
âIt wonât happen again.â
âIf Lyla were here--â Youâre a shark-- going after the one thing you knew would hurt. The little girl back at home who he went to great lengths to make sure was safe. She was⊠his, even if he felt was his brotherâs, putting more salt into an ever widening sinkhole that was his irritation.
âShe wasnât.â
âBut what if she was?â
âCĂĄllate,â he barked.
âFine, Iâll beat it. You can holed up all alone down here like you like to be, you-- you-- big lug.â You recoiled for an instant, before forcing yourself up, rubbing at heavily fallen tears in your pursuit of the door. Your cheeks were kissed by raw agitation, all pink and in any other situation, beautiful. Miguel swayed to catch your elbow.
âDiscĂșlpame,â he murmured, a rare apology if you could even call it one to begin with. There was a long pause, and he wondered if you would be upset with him for the rest of the day. âDonât go. Donât leave me.â
He knew he made it damn hard not to.
That was the thing about Miguel. He made it hard to get close, but even harder to leave. No matter what he did, you wanted to stay there right by him-- because he was the complicated brother. The one who⊠well, hell, you wanted to be about. Gabe was good and easy, your Miguelito wasâŠ
âDios mio, Miguelito. This hinky stuff ainât happening again. Or-- Or Iâll leave you both. Take Lyla right back to the island I came from and marry a man who isnât in wrong with the police.â
You should have known the day that you gave birth to his daughter that something like that wasnât going to happen.
