"I want Annabeth to be blonde :(" then pick up a PJO book and read it you dumb fuck
#pjo fans stop being weird about black annabeth challenge IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!#first off annabeths race isnt important to her story. annabeth could be any race. her skin colour doesnt actually impact her. her hair does#now im not blonde but im a white girl so let me explain why some pjo fans need to stfu. i have grade 9s. im called stupid for my appearance#im not insulted bc im white or bc i have blue eyes or brown hair. im insulted bc women are judged on their appearance. im insulted bc SEXIS#annabeth isnt really called dumb for being blonde. shes called dumb bc shes female. and ppl are more likely to stereotype women than men#this is especially true for black women! whatever sexism white women get is always horrifically multiplied for poc women#black hair frequently gets called unprofessional untidy unhygienic etc. its VERY likely that show annabeth has been called dumb for her hai#does this make the casting “accurate”? no. but castings don't have to be accurate. they have to ADD to the character.#annabeth being black ADDS to her character because it showcases how women (esp black women) are devalued for their appearance#movie annabeth wasnt bad for having brown hair or white hair she was a bad adaptation bc she was ooc#i just think its ironic that a core aspect of annabeth was being judged for her looks. and now show annabeth is getting judged for her look#like. you guys really missed the point here.#anyways disagree all you want but book annabeth is still blonde. no one is erasing her. theres a new PJO book w blonde annabeth SEPTEMBER 2#GO READ CHALICE OF THE GODS IF U WANT BLONDE ANNABETH OMG! adaptions and source material can be separate and coexist!#rant over sorry#pjo#percy jackson#annabeth chase#pjo show#percy jackson and the olympians#the lightning thief#discourse#shitpost#percy jackson show#pjo discourse#riordanverse

Does anybody else feel like mental health awareness has done very little to help them in material reality
#i was gonna say done nothing to help but that seemed too harsh#like there definitely is more knowledge about it now. maybe more people feel comfortable speaking about it which is good#but personally i don't feel that. like idk. workplaces will post about mental health awareness and then do nothing to help employees#the same w universities. my uni cut back the already meager mental health support#and then the government is doing absolutely fuck all as well#like idk im just back in a place i thought id gotten out of long ago and i still don't feel comfortable talking about it with people#maybe that's a me problem or maybe it's cultural or something idk. but in the 10 years ive been depressed (🫠) i don't think it's gotten a#whole lot better. teenagers are still dealing with the same shit i did and they're still not being taken seriously#women's mental health is not even spoken about.....anxiety depression sh eds etc are still ignored or seen as hysterical behaviour in women#or just normal esp with disordered eating. society hasn't changed people still want women to be stick thin and weak#like i know 10 years is a short time and there has been massive improvements in mh awareness if we look back over the past 50+ years#but idk i just think that it hasn't gotten better for a lot of people#i think specifically of belfast and like god. the amount of trauma there is the amount of homelessness the amount of substance abuse#drug abuse in particular that has gotten visibly worse over the past decade or so*#and i connect the dots n see the 2008 recession + a tory gov defunding the nhs + dehumanisation of homeless people & addicts + the troubles#+ ptsd + generational trauma + a negative peace + classism + paramilitary drug dealers + parties linked to those paramilitaries#and its like hmmmm i think we live in a society. and a mental health approach based on individual actions like journaling and meditation#isn't the way to go. or at least is not the be all and end all which is what a lot of mental health awareness raising seems to promote#*visibly worse on the streets. it was always a problem ofc but even a decade ago my parents never imagined it would be as bad as it is now#and it's become so normalised. i do think there's less individualism here than there seems to be elsewhere which can be good and can be bad#but i think we are becoming more and more individualistic. slowly. there's still a sense of community here but i do think it's changing#and callousness towards homeless people is one of the most obvious examples of this.#love when i put a wee asterisk in the tags of a post. like i have A Lot To Say lol

diana and cheetah for the ship ask game?
Tumblr media
Maybe someday I will end up joining the wondercheetah fans but as it stands every cheetah appearance I've read she has just been like The Worst. And not even a fun worst like I hate her guts SO much. To break it down
Pérez Cheetah:
Rich British lady who made her fortune stealing artifacts from other (often indigenous) cultures
Tries to trick Diana by lying that she found an important lost Themysciran artifact (mean)
Didn't say it explicitly outright but I just KNOW she was a huge fan of British colonialism this is undeniable to me
Conclusion: Cheetah is awful and quite literally only alive bc Diana is a good enough person to save her from execution
Rucka Cheetah (original flavor, c. 2005ish)
This bitch is fucking crazy
Sleeping with Professor Zoom
Has superspeed now????
Is trying to flirt with and assault Wally West (Flash crossover)
Conclusion: Barbara id say get help but honestly idt any therapist out there could handle you
So like wondercheetah shippers I see you and I feel you and I think it's v possible we'll vibe when I get to like Rebirth WW and the new version of Cheetah but I'm going through preboot comics right now and she just sucks so bad for me. Could never even entertain the thought of them even liking the other as a human for an instant in a world with the original (Barbara Minerva vers) Cheetah and their history--which is where my mind is at right now in terms of WW comics.
Not saying wondercheetah shippers aren't right though like they literally are. Diana and New Cheetah 100% have some kind of thing this is undeniable. I just haven't read it yet and so I think of Old Cheetah first and shes awful.

actually wait that poll unlocked a fuckin memory and i feel like talking about it so‼️
( not tmi or anything but in case this gets long or you don't wanna read it im putting a page break here LMAO )
ok so on my 18th birthday, my grandparents REALLY wanted to go to dinner to celebrate. i didnt really wanna, but i got to dress up so i said fuck it. this was around when debates over trans women in sports were first brought to the mainstream ( as far i know ) right. so we're sitting there in the restaurant, im eating my cake, and my grandfather starts going off about how they're letting men compete against women and how unfair it is and shit. WHILE WE'RE CELEBRATING MY BIRTHDAY. IN FRONT OF ME. THEIR GNC GRANDCHILD. WHO REFERS TO HIMSELF WITH MASCULINE TERMS EVERY TIME YOU SEE HIM. LOUDLY. it's been two years and i STILL can't believe the audacity. like YOU invited ME out to dinner and start talking that shit?? if they weren't family and we weren't in public i would have told em to shut the fuck up
#they STILL talk about this stuff at family gatherings too apparently#i always keep to myself til we leave but my ma has told me they complain about people demanding you use the right pronouns or whatever#and god bless her soul she tried to be like 'actually its not that hard even if you cant tell because you shouldn't assume' and#'if they tell you how to refer to them its just basic human decency to respect that'#no clue how they took it since i wasnt there but they just ended the conversation after that 😭😭#god dont even get me started on my uncle#hes awful and clearly mentally unwell and obviously really old#we have a family friend who had two moms right. they never tried to hide it and didnt really acknowledge it as anything weird. bc it wasnt.#my uncle is the one that introduced us so clearly he knew their mom was gay#and he did#he never said anything about it while we were kids out of fear of making us gay or smth#but at the last family gathering he was updating me on what was going on with them cuz we havent seen em in a while#and he told me that their daughter had apparently gotten a boyfriend#which is great! im really happy for her#but my uncle was like 'yeah i was getting worried because of ( one of her mothers names ) being. . . you know?'#and i was???? flabbergasted?????? esp because of personal things with their parents he was JUST telling me about#this is the same guy who after 20 years STILL cant spell my deadname right. not relevant just still so fucking funny to me#but yeah he laughed when he said it and everything like he was making a funny joke#tbf there is smth so insanely comedic about telling your butch niece you were afraid someone 50 years younger than you liked other women#just because her mom did#crazy shit

Reading Asunder and I think I hate this more than the first two. The first two were often poorly done in a technical sense, and often had a lot of sexism. But Asunder is the "video game developers idea of gray morality" problem fucking distilled. The sexism is still here, and most of the technical issues are fixed (though certainly not fucking all) but like
Every two damn minutes it's: the noble and pure and pretty Evangeline (ignore the fact that like a kid starved to death under her charge and she is actually a threat and jailer to everyone around her just bc they were born different) who is so noble bc she.... believes the beliefs of the organization doing all the bad stuff. But she believes it really genuinely, that she's helping, even when working w the bad organization. And she's pretty, we'll mention that again.
Versus Adrian who's described as pretty never and often described as mousy and irritating. And she wants all the mages to be free but she's like soooo angry and loud and mean. Did you hear how she's too angry? She's soooooo angry, the redheaded fire Mage. So angry. And she's super judgemental. No one's as judgemental as her, even Wynne (a character who's greatest and most consistent flaw is being judgemental) will call her out as being too judgemental. And of course like, maybe she has some points about Mage freedom if she just wasn't so angry about it and obsessed with it. And she's not pretty.
And of course. Both. Are in a love triangle with our main male POV character. In fact he at one point dated Adrian, although it's impossible to tell why, bc he only ever thinks of her in the worst ways possible, so like. What did he like about her? What does he even like about Evangeline other than that he thinks she's hot? No one knows.
Something about it being written slightly more competently makes me like it even less
#dragon age#asunder#dragon age critical#asunder critical#tbh. david gaiders rant about how romance ruins the paths a character can go dowm#(or limits it or whatever)#makes a lot of sense when you read his novels- because his romances are fucking unbelievable#his women are on occasion given a second dimension instead of the one#and he cant even fucking know why two people would like each other#perhaps esp if a woman is involved. he doesnt know what makes women people let alone why one would want one romantically#so he just goes. idk shes hot to him or whatever. instead of presuming that like.#when people of all genders get with women its for as myriad complex and interesting ways as when men get with men. bc women are literally#not that different from men and also exist as full people#so his romances are always like 'idiot local man thinks woman is pretty. that is all. now they are trapped in one of like 3 paths'#like maybe you think romance is limited bc you arent fucking good at it man. you fucking suck at it.#your inventiness when it comes to worldbuilding? great. love some of that stuff.#when theres a woman in the room you sound like a caveman trying to figure out what a plane is#when youre designing her romance you sound like that same caveman trying to build the plane from scratch after figuring out the concept#its sooooooo fucking bad#and you can tell he thinks hes immune to it bc hes gay. you can just. see that he thinks bc he doesnt want to fuck women#he cant possibly be misogynist about them. YOU STILL DONT THINK THEYRE THE SAME AS YOU AND ITS DRIPPING OFF THE PAGE MAN#krogans thoughts

deseret book is more persistent than duolingo.
i ordered 2 books for a church research project on Black saints in the early Church and also in the Reorganization, on which the one book had a small section us and all had info from the our shared early church history, and it was an ebook too!
and i get physical mail from them once a month. i have no idea how to cancel.
herald house, the community of christ publishing house, contacts me much less, and i buy books from them all the time.
and oh their church book app reminds me to read my scriptures and the words of their prophets regularly if it's not in sleep mode.
i have to admire the effort behind it, ngl.
#tumblrstake#the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints#Community of Christ#latter day saint#deseret book#i highly recommend both books#black saints in a white church#and “My Lord He Calls Me” edited by Alice Faulkner Burch#she's really awesome so pls support her#i hang out with the genesis group bc i am playing with a similar group for community of christ#because the Black saints expressed interest#actually Black Saints in a White Church may have been elsewhere by Signature Books#you can read it for free on archive.org#and if you're at BYU you can access it too and papers on it#i'll promo them in another post eventually#white saints in my church don't get my vision bc their like “we never had a priesthood ban”#but i literally had to do the project bc they were speaking over us regarding anti-Black racism in our D&C#and people individually reached out. like Black church leaders. bc they be doing this.#we made so much noise and the first presidency reached out to ME bc i wrote a paper that spread through the church about it#wild moment. but yeah we need something like the Genesis Group and they were willing to help me out a bit#its too much for me to handle on my own tho. esp with the revitalizing our intepretation and use of the Book of Mormon projects#i always put too much in the tags. i should write a post about that and share my article#it was on our D&C 116 which is like our L-dS OD 2 on Race in the priesthood and specifically ordination of Black men#which they (some of the white saints) wanted removed 🙄 bc of the “ministers to their own race” part which led to segregation being allowed#but also explicitly affirms God calls people of all races to priesthood and also that Black congregations didn’t need white pastor oversight#so just leave it. and ig you feel guilty...cope#i personally believe it to be inspired but flawed#it was literally a mostly white church in 1865. not excusing tho bc some sects were always fully integrated like the Bickertonites#they had a Black apostle in 1915. representation at high levels of leadership#oh and women in the priesthood from the jump. if limited

this is going to sound so condescending and I don't know if there's a way around it but if you want adult characters you may have to branch out into media that's for adults and I know it can be difficult to get out of your comfort zone and not denying there's still an age bias especially for women but it's really worth it if you're looking for older characters and (presumably) more mature narratives to seek out media that's not designed to be best digested by 13-15 year olds because it's probably going to mostly involve 13-15 yr olds

"eugh this character is a pervert who cheats and goes out with a lot of women at once, how could you like him?" First off I'm his boyfriend/whatever not his owner.
Second off if my poly ass was writing the source material I would not change that about him, just have those girls know his stance in the matter. Simple as that.

I’m so terrified that they’re gonna absolutely murder bo-katan’s character in favor of her being a one dimensional bad guy who’s being Mean to din and Deserves To Have Power because it is what she was Born To Do (which even directly goes against mandalorian culture anyways - blood doesn’t matter to those guys. family does. and those are two very different things to a culture founded on adoption). Like, yeah, she’s set up to be an antagonist but there’s so many cool ways they could spin that. I hope they chose a good direction for her character but I honestly expect to be disappointed

i hate clothes shopping bc im rlly picky for a lot of reasons (mostly sensory stuff, ethical concerns, price, and personal taste which all collaborates to make picking stuff rlly hard dhdhd) and its generally stressful, and i have a habit of thrifting stuff thats too big for me bc its often all i can find in styles i like, but right now im actually rlly glad i got some too-big for me pants in the past couple years bc now a lot of them fit just right so i dont have like, an imminent pants buying emergency

being a lesbian is truly the most alienating experience i know i say this all the time but everytime im just as shocked by how true it is. how my simple existence, let alone my desires and my deepest feelings, are simply incomprehensible to cishets. it's not that they hate me its more than that: i don't exist.
