actually genuinely depressing that when people write april's mom as an actual character she's just kind of a one note Good Caretaker Mom... and like i know why this happens (let the the mammy trope dieee) but i still think there's a lot of untapped potential. im not saying she has to be a BAD parent but there are infinitely more interesting things you can do with april and her relationships with her parent(s), especially because she's WROUGHT with insecurity and is shown to develop a close bond with splinter, who she seeks out approval from, not to mention the absence of her likely working parents is so loud despite it never being mentioned as a reason for her issues, really.

april can take on the front of confidence because she's excitable and courageous but she is so deeply insecure. her being so tenacious despite that doesn't negate it. she notices how she doesn't seem to get along with other people and desperately desires balance between her love of the weird and her need for normalcy. april will work hard to fit in and she'll never succeed (also i really do relate to the fact that the one "friend" she has at school before likely sunita is kind of a creep that she doesn't like, can we talk about that more), and she does seem to find it frustrating that her only actual friends dont understand how that feels. being in the in-between point. wanting the best of both worlds and not truly fitting in either.

i think these are problems that can come with having a bad social life at school even with great parents, but unintentional emotional neglect due to being working class would be interesting, and parallel with splinter in a really fascinating way (+ they do say she has parents but i do prefer the idea of her having a single mom, more to be done with that. maybe they're divorced? that'd add something).

actually april's dynamic with splinter is really unexplored in the fandom because i do think there's a reason she finds his approval so validating,,, i think april's strong personality is mistaken for genuine confidence when it's really not.

People often seem to point out the parallels between Roger's "fame, wealth and power" in reference to Cross Guild, where each core member represents one of Roger's achievements

And like, I see where people are coming from, but I don't really agree with the conclusion, because there's no way to truly accurately match up each Cross Guild member to JUST ONE of those three things

All three members are extremely famous; the greatest swordsman does not need introduction, neither does Sir Crocodile who was a Shichibukai for like 20 years and spent a lot of that time being The Hero of the People Who Crushes Attacking Pirates. And do I need to explain Buggy's fame? It's literally all he has going for him.

Mihawk and Crocodile are both powerful while Buggy's a weak ass loser. Yes, I know you could argue Mihawk should be "power" because he's the 'greatest swordsman' etc, but we actually don't know if he'd be more powerful in a fight than Crocodile at this point. For all we know Crocodile is just as worthy if not more of the "power" title ('cause, as we all know, fame and bounty numbers aren't actual indicators of combat skill)

None of the Cross Guild members have wealth right now- To be fair we don't know what Mihawk's financial situation is actually like but I'm kinda assuming he's broke. But we do literally know that Crocodile went to collect Buggy's debt because he's appearently kinda broke, and because Buggy's also broke he couldn't pay Crocodile back. Thus the situation they're all in. None of them accurately represent "being wealthy" And yeah, sure, we do associate Crocodile with wealth not just due to how he presents himself but by also the sheer wealth he had previously gathered while running Baroque Works AND his silly little casino, and yeah he DID loan Buggy a bunch of money. But at the same time, even if none of these three have actual money in their pockets, Buggy does have a lot of assets under his name to get shit done, and that's a form of weath in itself.

Point being, the "Buggy = fame, Croc = wealth, Mihawk = power" could just as easily be "Buggy = wealth, Croc = power, Mihawk = fame" or "Bug = wealth, Croc = fame, Hawk = power"

okay i meant to make this post forever ago but my personal opinion on why so many people were so dissatisfied with lightfalll (disclaimer: i am not one of these people, i love lightfall SO much), is that lightfall was kind of subjected to a really aggressive marketing campaign.

like, stick with me here, i feel like almost all the lightfall release content (the trailers especially) were so focused on battling the witness, how this battle has been centuries in the making and this is the Second Collapse Finally Finding Us, only for there to be,,, no real resolution. the end was left on such a severe cliffhanger, but not only that, there was NO battle with the witness. the witness didn't even seem to be having a hard time at all with what we WERE throwing at it.

and for narrative reasons *i* am obsessed with this ending; in terms of storytelling i adore practically every creative decision that was made in lightfall, but i think the reason that so many people were so upset about it is because lightfall had such intense marketing and was rooted in the implication that this was the End of Days, only for us to get almost no closure, and instead so many more questions.

(there's also something to be said, i think, about the fact that the people who ARE most upset about this are like, the youtube gamer dudebros who's content is very very often rooted in the aggressive, violence-and-warfare, pvp-centric, no-interest-in-lore approach to destiny, and that the people i've seen primarily ENJOYING the narrative decisions (or at least being understanding about it) are the artists and writers and loremasters of the fandom, but i'm not quite sure,,, how to expand on that point.)

And yeah!! Tadej is a monster, he generally seems to be a very happy chilled out person but then you see him race and yeah. He is something else, probably a nightmare of several riders in the peloton (the peloton in cycling = the grid in F1. The group of competitors)

And its sort of complicated on who is the leader (ie the rider who they prioritize). Some riders are basically a shoe in for the leader, when you see Tadej on a lineup for a race its mostly him who UAE will prioritize. Same for Jonas Vingegaard and Visma Lease a Bike (VLAB) and Primož and VLAB last year/Red Bull - Bora - Hansgrohe this year unless its Vuelta 2023 in which case its Sepp but only barely

(* to explain the comment, both Jonas and Primož were on the lineup, the race was eventually won by Sepp Kuss, a third VLAB rider after uh... very many things happening that are beyond the scope of this asddfdg

Where it gets complicated is with teams with less of these shoe in guys or at races where they don't compete. Not to go back to Vuelta 2023, but both Jonas and Primož had competed in a Grand Tour already that year and both won their respective ones. I was not able to pay so much attention before the race but I do genuinely wonder if VLAB expected this result or if it was a random bullshit go situation.

Same for UAE this year at Vuelta. Tadej isn't doing it, obviously, so who will be the leader for them. To return back to Tour, Soudal Quick-Step is trying to win Tour with Remco Evenpoel, godspeed to them (I suppose he is at least leading the youth classification? Some teams don't have exact plans set in stone, from quick research it looks like Intermarché - Wanty did not aim for the points classification but now that Biniam Girmay is leading it? You bet they do their best to keep him in the lead.

As for how the leaders are selected aside from the shoe ins or these plans ether preplanned or on the spot, that is a process only known to the teams and possibly god I am convinced. And the lawyer and contract department maybe. There quite possibly is very much contract drama about if you will be prioritized in a team, I do not keep up with it enough, like I said earlier, there are hundreds of riders and my guys are mostly stable, I am sure someone will be more aware of all the fun contract bits o7 (I also have enough contract drama with F1 lmao.
