If you did commissions, would you also want people to not use those as backgrounds and profiles, or would you feel differently since someone might ask you to draw their oc? Asking for reference if you did do them!

Ngl this question has been on my mind a lot these pat few days.

With how things are going in my life, I have been considering opening up commissions more and more. But also I just dread trying to get into the nitty gritty of it all.. 😔 So I thought "okay, What is the simplest way I can possibly do this?"

The idea I had was, someone would pay me 5 bucks up front and say "draw sonic eating a burger" within an hour I whip up the sonic doodle and post it to my blog. Done. Transaction over. Onto the next commission.

But then I thought about people using those commissions as pfps and backgrounds. Which to be totally honest I wouldn't like people using my art as that. But if they paid for me to draw it, am I even allowed to tell them not to use it like that?

I asked some people in my personal life about it and got a lot of "I don't know" "Your art isn't worth 5 bucks! Charge them 20!" "You should have them pay half upfront and then pay the other half after" "I think they should be allowed to do whatever they want with the drawing because they paid you to draw it. Especially if its their OC"

In my attempt to find a simpler solution I just ended up with different questions. You can always count on me to make things unnecessarily complicated 💀

So all in all my answer is no. I wouldn't be comfortable with people using my art as pfps or backgrounds no matter what. But I have no idea how that would effect my commissions or if I cant/shouldn't do them because of this boundary. 😔

my fallen london OC! i made them by accident a few months ago and as you can tell ive very quickly developed scoundrel brainrot. it's a terminal illness for which there is no cure and the symptoms are instead of brain there is scoundrel.

in terms of actual character rundowns, their full moniker is The Bandaged Scoundrel, though i tend to call them "the scoundrel" for short. their real name is D█████, but they'd sooner die permanently than respond to or even acknowledge its existence.

they are! a bastard! a rat! a son of a b___! a motherf______! they are vain beyond your wildest imagination and they think they're the most infallible perfect being in all of existence and they have the exact attitude of a saturday morning power-hungry cartoon supervillain on cocaine.

Name: For the sake of posting online I’ll call her Rose!

Color: #E7355B [the pink in the art]

Age: I guess she’d be 20 given when Milgram started huh.

Status: Milgram Staff, Machine Technician

Symbols/imagery: ballet/musical theater, science experiments

Song genre: very similar to Mahiru's, something upbeat and extra pop-y

Tentatively she's number 011? She's not really prisoner but she's also not free to come and go, so I'm not actually sure if she'd get a number (Edit: I've decided she'll actually be 012. Staff is given the 01X range, and even though Es doesn't actively have a number they'd be staff member 011, making her 012.)

Story: Since the project is supposed to be realistic/present day, the mv machine would be brand new and unpredictable tech, so they’d want someone keeping up on maintenance and making sure the brain-invasive process won’t cause any harm to the prisoners. Rose was studying abroad in Japan working on some cool neuroscience tech (irl I know nothing about technology or brains but shh) and she stumbled upon some secret tech/plans from Milgram. Long story short, she was dragged into the experiment to make sure things ran smoothly.

Writer's Reasoning: She’s really fun for me to play around with, as she allows me to work with a character who has a tiny bit of pull over Es’ mindset in conversation but not the final decision (aka mirroring the voting system), and someone who is simultaneously trapped in the prison but has a reason to see all the canon content.* I really enjoy the character interactions and dynamics Milgram has set up so far, so it’s been super fun seeing how things change for better and worse when someone not quite aligned with either Milgram/the prisoners is thrown into the mix!

*As much as I love dramatic irony in fiction, it would drive me crazy if I knew every detail of of the vds/mvs but Rose didn't – and every single Milgram character is The Worst Communicator Ever so I couldn’t justify that she’d hear it secondhand from them...

Story roles:

She’s a bit conflicted -- she’s officially Milgram staff and knows she should remain neutral on the prisoners, since she won’t be allowed to interfere with the process/executions. At the same time, her job description is literally “make sure the machine doesn't hurt them and everyone's safe :)” and she's way too emotional to avoid getting hopelessly attached to everyone 😅

I really enjoy the theory that the machine extracts videos based off of priming, so one of Rose’s duties involves listening in on the interrogation and making sure there’s been enough material discussed/not too much time has passed overall (hence the ringing of the bell happening at different lengths for each vd -- That's her ringing it :3). She then watches the mvs along with Es to make sure there are no machine glitches, and know how to calibrate it better for next time.

(IEdit: I've since decided to add in official trial mvs, but before when I wasn't ready to tackle that:) She has to run some tests on the machine to make sure things are calibrated correctly, so she'd extract little things here and there. It gives me the opportunity to think up lyric snippets and recurring symbols for her without worrying about full encompassing music videos.

I'm not afraid to admit she can fall into Mary Sue territory every so often by being everyone's friend, because it's less about "aw everyone likes her" and more about "canon is too painful rn and I need a fix-it tool to take care of these guys and give them hugs and tell them someone forgives them and cares about them and unfortunately these characters wouldn't let anyone less than a friend do that." Rest assured she's definitely not perfect and will fuck everything up on occasion :3

Miscellaneous: Whenever I play around with normal au ideas she's still working on the machine (but in a public, more ethical setting), and she's Mahiru's roommate :) Her character isn't super focused on love, but if I had to pick a cover song it'd be Stickybug II. It's very much my vibe, the lyrics fit well enough (better than most songs, at least lol) and it's one of my favorites out of my limited knowledge of unchosen Deco songs! (Edit, I've actually given her non-deco cover songs hehe)

So yeah, I hope she's not too boring without a cool crime to decipher, but I wanted to share since I was really proud of her! It took a bit of tinkering to find a way to fit her into a perfect secret-third-thing role that runs very smoothly with all of canon, so I was very excited!

I'm starting to find myself more interested in Wilson again, so I might reblog more posts related to him. It feels great for my love of this character to grow again, since it was pushed down after I stopped talking to my ex-best friend.

The problem is though, that I actually ship Wilson more with a regular OC of mine than I do with a s/i. So even tho I wanna post about him more, I'm finding myself tempted to remove Wilson altogether from my f/o list. Should I ship him on this blog with my non-s/i OC here? Shoul I just remove him? Idk what to do, I'm conflicted :/

Reasons I'll like but not reblog an artist's art:

1. I am, it's just in a queue

2. It's art I really like, I just don't want it on my blog (which is just an archive for posts I want to go back and look at later)

3. It's something I like but don't really understand the context of like a fandom I'm unfamiliar with or OCs and don't want to reblog because it makes tagging difficult which messes up my organization

4. It would go on a blog (either main or side) where I have no followers and don't have the blog TO gain followers or communicate with and it literally would not spread to anyone for that reason

5. I've been on this site for 8 years and even then have memory issues and use likes as a way to mark what posts I have and haven't already seen/reblogged

6. And the one you want to hear the least: yeah. Sometimes art is nice enough for a like but not a reblog. It's called preferences. It's not a matter of technical skill or effort put into the piece or fandom they're not in or whatever. Sometimes you just don't vibe with something that much. That is NORMAL. A like and no reblog there shows, at least for me, "hey I can appreciate the concept behind it/technical skill/etc" but I won't reblog because for some other reason I just don't like it enough to have it on my blog. If the idea that not everyone will like your art enough to show it around to your friends is that big of a blow to your ego then you need to stop posting it because that is EXTREMELY unhealthy. It does you no good and only serves to ruin your relationship with your art. Stop

First of all, calling Theo a racist comment is not cool, and then turning around and saying his relationship with Seven (who was consistently named "Steven", which gets dumber in a second) is problematic because he's a person of colour and Seven is a "Colonizer-European cisgender Karen with no brains" is just... what? Also stop misgendering Seven as a woman. Dickhead.

Second of all, what the FUCK did they mean Vic and Nash are "too gay" for a heterosexual relationship because "[Vic] looks like a femboy so [she] should be one"?? Stop misgendering Vic. Is it because they respect each other? Or is it because the anon looked at my homosexual boys (Theo and Seven) and decided that the most homosexual guy of the duo was a woman so they needed to ensure at least one of my Valentines Arts were gay? Also they absolutely ran out of characters for the ask as they got to complaining about Alpha and Yvette and only typed out "that [guy] with the white and black hair has a stupid hairdo and you should feel ba", which is funny enough. But still... Dickhead.
